Stephen and Megan are joined by three young adults who are making a big difference in the world: Liv Abraham, Lucas Sjule, and Abby Schoeneck. All three of them are embracing the season they are in by using their unique platforms, careers, and networks to positively impact those around them. Liv co-founded The Invitation, which creates community and opportunities for young adult women in multiple states! Lucas is a content creator and a business owner, who co-founded the Hey Friend Podcast which advocates for real friendships. Abby is a nurse who has embraced her identity as a follower of Jesus, embracing the daily opportunities she has to be a light and to demonstrate the hope, joy, and peace of Jesus.In this episode, we talk about their individual and unique journeys of faith and talk about how they have used their circumstances to make a difference in the world around them. Ryan Blotsky has been listening to the Going Somewhere Podcast since DAY ONE and it is a privilege to have him on as a guest. Ryan serves as a firefighter with the Fargo Fire Department. The turning of the year is a perfect time for reflection. The best way to start a new year strong is to take some time to reflect on the previous year. Going home for the holidays can lead to a mix of emotions. Some of you have been counting down the days until you could go home. For others, you are preparing to walk into a warzone. The reality is, young adulthood is a season of change, and that impactss our home and family lives as well. Our relationships with our parents and siblings change. Our faith in Jesus may be new to people at home and some of tho former traditions and activities just aren't for you anymore. How do we navigate these tensions and challenges?In this episode, we discuss various ways to make this trip home for the holidays a success. Here are some practical tips we walk through in the episode:Serve your family -- Do chores and tasks without being asked. Serving opens the door and demonstrates love.Remain consistent with your rhythms -- Have a spiritual plan. Keep reading your Bible. Keep praying. Create a conducive environment.Stay in touch with community -- Do a reading plan with friends and hold each other accountable. Be prepared -- Uncover common tripwires and don't be caught off guard by former temptations.Adjust expectations -- Your family and friends likely know a different version of you. Help kindly introduce them to the new you.Don't force your convictions on others -- You can't expect someone who doesn't know Jesus to act like Jesus.Share your story -- Give a reason for the hope you have (1 Peter 5:16). Tell people about what God has done in your life.Set boundaries with love -- Change is hard, especially for your family. Be gracious.Practice forgiveness -- Extend forgiveness quickly. Young adulthood is a season of change. One of the aspects of life that changes the most is relationships. High school friends goes to different colleges. College friends get jobs and get married. A new job takes you or your friend away to a new city for a new chapter. The question is, how should young adults navigate these changing relationships and long distance friendships?In this episode, we discuss various friendship dynamics and break down some tips on how to navigate long distance and changing friendships. The fact is, some friendships are for a season, others are for a reason, and a select few are for a lifetime. We have all been there - wanting community and desiring deep authentic relationships. We were created for a relationship with Jesus but also with others. Many of us know we want lasting Christ-centered friendships but don’t always know how to get there. How do we build better friendships in our lives? How do we pursue others intentionally while also navigating our 9-5? How can we be a better friend so we can build better friendships?In this episode, we discuss three ways to build better friendships. We start by answering some of your questions about navigating community as young adults. We also look at the life of David and the friendships he had. Many of us can relate to the desire for community. But building the life we want starts with us! We must become the friend we would want. We must see the best in others (Samuel).
