Welcome back to the Green Industry Podcast. I'm your host Paul Jamison down here in beautiful sunny Florida. I hope the weather is nice in your neck of the woods today. On the program we have part two with my friend Naylor Taliaferro. He is from Clean Cut Lawn Care up there, Midlothian, Virginia and you may probably have known him from his Internet stuff, which is under LCR Media, which stands for Lawn Care Rookie Media and Naylor is a friend of the program. He's been on as a guest more than anybody else and I feature him a lot and promote him because he truly cares about seeing transformation in your business. And what I mean by that is off air. Naylor and I have had many, many conversations and I can just tell his heart he really cares about people and he really cares about what's right for the community and it's just refreshing when somebody's motives are clean and pure and really a servant being a servant. And so anyway, I wanted to get Naylor on the program. I know he has a new he hosts all kind of events in our industry all throughout the year, all into so many different cities it's hard to keep up with it all. But I know he's launching this year a brand new event for the very first time ever called Profit Accelerator Live where John Pajac and Eric Triplett and Naylor are going to be teaching us how to price our services and most importantly, how to increase our profit, which is such a struggle even for me, as so many years in business. It's just challenging. And so having the right mindset and actual skill set to make sure that we are profitable is something that I want Naylor to talk about on today's program and just, just give him the time and the space here to share what this event is all about. So this is part two. We had part one on our previous episode, and today we're going to talk about Naylor's event. So without further ado, here's the man, the Myth, the legend, Mr. Naylor, Tyler Farrell. Well, speaking of pay, Jack, he's gonna be, you guys are gonna be doing an in person event to talk more about this. Can you tell us more?

Yeah. So, yeah, speaking of paycheck, right, he, he's, he's, we, we know him as the numbers guy. He's all about profits. And we're putting together a special event. So I've had the LCR Summit for a few years now, and that is kind of like all the foundational principles to build your business. And we're, we talk about marketing, employees, hiring, training, profits, all of the main pillars for your business at the LCR Summit and a lot of different speakers. But I wanted to extract the profits part of that because it's so critical, because I just keep, like I said in the beginning of this episode, I talked to so many of you that are struggling with pricing, route density, just profits in general. And you think working more is going to get you more. Well, that's true. It's going to get you more trouble, more headaches, it's going to get you more exhausted, it's going to get you more broke. Because if you don't have your profits set up properly, like if you don't have your numbers, you don't even know your numbers. You don't have budgets, you don't have things set up in a way where you're actually profitable. You're really just working for nothing. You really end up having the lowest paid job you've ever had and working the most you've ever had for it. So don't, don't be like, don't be that, don't do that. And if that's you, I'm here for you. And I get it. I was almost like that in the beginning, so. But I quickly learned and focused and got connected, right? And there wasn't even really any events back then. So I've been creating these different events so that we can all learn and grow Together. And the profit accelerator Live is going to be focused on just that. It's two days right here in Richmond, Virginia, my hometown, June 26th and 27th. And so it's two days going to be me, John Pajak, and Eric Triplett, the pond digger, who's also a good friend of ours, who is a $2 million plus pond construction, design, build, maintain company over in California. And he's a lifelong contractor. Asked him the other day, how long have you been doing this? He's like 40 something years. I forgot what it was. Was over 40 years. The man has been around. He has a lot of experience. And he actually kind of like had like a reboot of his business. He had one business and then he fell ill and had to take, take, take a step back. And then he ramped his, kind of redid his business and ramped it back up and made it bigger and better and more profitable the second time around. So he's crushing it. And he's coaching and sharing on social media all the time because he also connects with contractors who are literally, like on the verge of a mental breakdown, like on the verge of a divorce, on the verge of all the above because of what we're talking about, because they don't have their numbers dialed in because they don't understand what they don't understand, because they don't know what they don't know. But they're connected with triplet, you know, or you're connected with us, or they heard something on a podcast or read a book or whatever that hopefully got them one step, you know, closer to a change in the right, you know, in the right direction. So triplet is great at selling and pricing as well, and knowing what to say and how to say it to the right people, to your customers. He's very good at that. So the three of us are going to be together for two days. You're going to have all three of us for two days, and we're going to be coaching you on how to increase the profits in your business in two days. So at the end of it, you're going to know more than route density, right? You're going to know all the things and you're going to be able to dial it in. So it's in June, so you can kind of regroup. Like, how was my spring rush before the second half of the summer? And the burnout happens. You can salvage something like, okay, we're halfway through the year. Where do we look like going? Come with your challenges. Let's fix some stuff. So you can finish the year strong instead of waiting until the end of the year when the LCR summit is to be like, well, that was a bummer. Better luck next year, you know. So we'll still have that too. But it's great to have a nice check, a checkpoint in the middle of the year so you can really get that dialed in. And then Richmond is. Yeah, I've been there many times, folks.
Naylor Taliaferro
Yeah, Richmond is the city. Yeah. We live on the outskirts. Yeah. No lakes in Richmond. I got just the river, but, but that's the thing. It's beautiful. There's. There's a beautiful river, there's the ocean, there's all types of bodies of water. It's beautiful Time actually to be in Richmond, Virginia in the summer. That's a whole nother side thing. But yeah, you can have a great time. Bring your family, bring your spouse, have a good time. I'll make it, trust me, I'll make it a good time. So in between time, you know, make it a good time in between time. When you're done, when we're done learning, you're going to be able to have a lot of opportunities to network and enjoy the weather, enjoy the beautiful historical Richmond, Virginia. A lot of history there, a lot of stuff going on. So. So that's another side note there.

That's exciting. And your events just keep getting better and better. Naylor and I think one of Naylor's assignments in his life is hosting events. And I've to so many of your events. It started out years ago at the rally at the Equip Expo. It was called Gie back then. But you, you just had so much passion about making sure everyone had a good time at the old Mega. I mean, it was all the way back to the Mega Caverns. But you're just so attentive to details and so genuinely concerned, making sure that everyone's experience is just so wonderful. And then you continue to do those events, but then you started the, the LCR Summit in Atlanta and now LCR Summit in Louisville, and now it's finally cool to see an event in your own area, you know, Virginia, because all the other events you do are always in different cities that you don't even live in. So I, I can't imagine how great your event's going to be when it's basically in your, you know, backyard there of Richmond, Virginia.

But your, your, your events, it's just, I can tell you're in your calling and your, your passion. And I forget that saying you, you were telling me in a voice note about like how your passion and your skill and all of that, I forget how you worded it. But like, I feel like for you, events, it's what you're good at, it's what you like doing, it's just.

And so passion and proficiency where your passion and your proficiency align what you're good at and what you love to do.

Right. And as an outsider looking in, I feel like you're passionate and proficient at events and they just keep getting better and better and better and the transformation just keeps getting bigger and bigger for the people that have been so blessed to, to be at your event. There you go. Thank you, Paul. I appreciate those kind words. It is definitely a passion of mine and it is something that I realized that I am good at. So I might as well lean into it and just keep it going. So once upon a time I was told I should have been a teacher. So here we go. When I was like in high school, I was like, I'm not going to be no teacher.

Yeah, but you're, it's, you're not necessarily like a teacher, like a middle school, seventh grade science teacher, but you're teaching people how to actually have profitable businesses. And this is something that's so important because I went through the hell on earth, if you will. The, the stress, the anxiety, the. Everything you kind of mentioned earlier because I was bringing on more work, but because the new customer wasn't priced property properly. Now I have this integrity issue. I have to go serve the customer I signed up to serve, but I'm actually not even making money from them because by the time I pay all the expense expenditures, I'm in this nightmare of a situation where I have a business and I have all these customers and I'M going to bed stressed out, and I'm waking up stressed out. And then that stress, your body and your emotions and all of it's connected. So now my. My health. You know, when I used to work at the radio station, my boss was like, you look horrible. And I was like, well, I feel I'm stressed out. Like, I. I'm here, and then I got to go do lawn care. And, like, I would cry. I mean, it's just. And all of that could have been avoided if I knew you say you're a teacher. If you would have taught me this stuff back in 2013, I could have. You know, who knows how my life would have turned out? But I went through tough, tough, tough, tough, tough times until I finally learned everything. You're teaching in the profit accelerator Live. I. But you don't have to. You don't have to learn through the school of experience. You can learn from people like John Paj and Eric Triplett and Naylor and not even have to go through the. The tough times that I went through because I didn't know this stuff.

Right. Yeah. And here's the final point, I think, to that, for me anyway, is that there's some, you know, some mixed thoughts. People probably think, oh, well, you know, you have to learn the hard way, and I had to learn the hard way. So you need to learn the hard way. And, oh, you're just gonna be. You're soft or you're gonna make soft men and all these things, but at the end of the day, we're still gonna have a struggle. But if we struggle longer, we can help less. Like, so don't be helpless and learn how. Learn faster so that you can help more. Because we're put on this planet to be of service to others and help people. Like, just. Just think about from your family standpoint, if you have a child and a spouse, if you subscribe to the belief that you need to struggle for as long as you need to struggle, well, guess who else is struggling? They are. But if there's a way, a path for you to honestly learn, you know, in it, with integrity, how to shorten that learning curve, how to get somewhere faster, how to get past some of. And avoid some of these roadblocks and challenges, then you will get there. You will get to wherever you want to go sooner and. And help and serve the people you care about sooner. Right? Like, I've heard someone say, I wish I had made these millions sooner so I could enjoy it longer. Right? Like, so whether your goal is millions or Your goal is to whatever it is. Like the faster you do it, the faster you can, the longer you can enjoy it. So that, that's another part of time for me. I'm really obsessed that I'll be. I have a whole framework about time. I forgot I didn't even go into that. But I've got many frameworks as well that, that I've discovered that I'll be sharing at the Profit accelerator Live. Like how we all are using the same 24 hours in the day, right? We don't control time and space, that's just something that we'. But time is always being assigned. But is it being assigned by default or by design? So default is you wake up in the morning and you go on your phone and an hour's gone from doom scrolling that hour of your day, first thing in the day, not even going into the mental aspect of that and how you just lost, you know, the day. Like you didn't win the day, but just from a time standpoint that hours was just assigned by default instead of by design. Where I get up in the morning and the first thing I do is not go on my phone. I have specific things that I do and when I do go on my phone, I'm only looking at certain things. I'm not going on social media and allowing my notifications to just consume me. I organize and assign my time by design. Like time blocking is one of those things, right? Like, okay, I'm gonna do this from this time, this time. And it might seem annoying and tedious, but that's how you get the most freedom, is by creating boundaries. If you put a fence around your backyard, you know where your boundaries are and you have freedom within those boundaries. And so do your neighbors, by the way. Now, now, without a fence, no one really knows. Maybe you know where the property line is. But your neighbors argue with you and they think it's here, there and everywhere. Now they encroach onto your property or you encroach onto theirs and everyone's arguing and everything. But if you put a fence up now, you know what your boundary is and you have freedom within that. And no one's interfering with each other's boundaries, right? They got their spot, you got your spot. So it's the same thing with the time in your day. Don't allow when you assign it by design, you have it all structured out. There's going to be a lot of random things that happen in life. But now you can look, nope, I don't have time for that. We'll have to move that to tomorrow. Like you don't just take, just taking on all this extra stuff. And now your time gets assigned by default because of all the noise in, in your business, in your life. So anyway that I go all into details about that and how to structure your time, how to design it properly and what all that means as well in the Profit Accelerator Live. So.

And, and John gave me a light bulb moment. I, I mean I still remember the room I was in and the, the, the shock and awe when we, we were connecting on Snapchat long time ago. Naylor and Pay Jack and, and Triplet and a handful of us other guys and, and John multiple times is like, hey, I'd love To help you with my budgets, break evens, bottom lines, yada, yada, yada. And I kept kicking the can down the road. Or, or as Naylor said on when he was sleep deprived on my last podcast, kicking the road down the can, I was like, ah, Naylor's gotta go to bed.

No, that was the week you were sick before you went to. Yeah, the event, Maryland. And I, I, Naylor told me ahead of time, he's like, yeah, I got a fever, I'm not feeling well, let's just get it out. And he's like, yeah, I was kicking the road down the can. And I was like, all right, go get a nap. But I was put, I was putting pay jack off because the truth was I, I thought my business was not doing too good. And I, I knew John was going to probably tell me that. And so he did. We, we went through for hours. He was asking me questions about my business and he basically came out and he's like, if you want to run a two man crew, you and Robbie, who, the guy was working with me at Time Robbie. He's like, or if you want to run your crew, you, Robbie and Josh, here's your break even for three. Here's your break, even for two. And it was so much more than what I was making and charging. And I just had this light bulb moment that John was able to like so eloquently give me that. I got to, I got to raise my prices, you know, before the end of business today. And that, that was a game changer for me. And then obviously triplets on a multi level, million dollar business, he, he can help out a lot as well. And so it's going to be a good time. No, I think, I think we covered a lot. I try not to overwhelm people. I got a lot of my lot on my mind, a lot to say, a lot to help with. So that's why a two day in person event is the right place for that. So, so we don't just have like two hour episodes of podcasts and whatnot, so you can kind of process it better. And I see Greg Fields was in the chat here and he's been at the LCR summit a couple of times. So he, he, he understands it's a lot easier to, to absorb and ask questions and process information over the course of two days. Then you know there's value here on the podcast, but there's only so much you can retain and, and listen to. So, so yeah, I, I think we're good. Is the, the long story. The long an.
