It is not your fault. Every health article, every wellness post, and every label has told you the same thing: add black pepper and you are good to go. That advice is based on a single 1998 study. When researchers went back and tested it properly in a controlled human trial published in 2021, black pepper did not improve curcumin absorption at all. It performed no better than plain turmeric with nothing added. In that same study, a properly formulated version of curcumin was over 20 times more absorbable.
