Jesus' parable of the wheat and weeds warns the church against the destructive zeal of trying to purge its own field, calling it instead to the patient, focused work of planting the good news and trusting the master to sort the rest at harvest.

Jesus invites us to abandon what we think we know about following him in exchange for a spot beside him, learning how to participate with him in proclaiming the Kingdom of God.

Jesus calls us to embrace the unique challenges of faithful proclamation in our day and time. We are to be as crafty as snakes and innocent as doves.

We sin because we fail to have proper faith in the sometimes-nonsensical ways of God.

We are barren, just like Abraham and Sarah. Yet God calls us to be obedient so that we might have life and become a blessing to the entire world.

A counter-mission to deny the resurrection is mounted while Jesus sends his disciples out with the great commission.

As a church we are called not to make a name for ourselves, but to be fruitful and multiply. Pentecost is the renewal of the command and an empowering to be fruitful and multiply.

As followers of Jesus, we're to work toward unity of the spirit by having sympathy, a tender heart, a humble mind, while always being ready to share God's love.

We are called to possibly suffer for being faithful to Jesus.

We are being built into a spiritual house, which is to give testimony to the goodness of God.
