Nothing makes me happier than knowing I'm delivering the exact advice and information you want to hear on the podcast. So it makes my whole day when I receive your style questions in my inbox this week, longtime listener Danielle sent in not one but three amazing questions so I know there's something in this episode for you. We're covering a range of topics from polished hairstyles you don't need a cosmetology license to pull off where in the world to find beautiful shoes for wide feet, friend. We have options, don't you worry. And how to choose the right frames for your face shape from your hair to your toes. I've got you covered today, so let's dive in and explore some ways to style yourself quickly and professionally for the office or wherever you're running off to this holiday season.

Welcome to her Style podcast where we're all about empowering you to show up and get dressed every day with confidence. I'm your host Heather Riggs, a 15 year old year and counting certified image consultant and color specialist ready to build a wardrobe and a personal style you love. Let's get started.

Hi Heather, my name is Danielle. Huge fan of the podcast. What do they say? Long time listener, first time caller, reaching out to you for some advice. So I work in high net worth finance meaning I have to show up extremely polished and formal for my office. I have the wardrobe in hand. You know that's something that I feel comfortable with. But I have a couple of areas where I struggle. So it's a little bit of a multi layered question here. Firstly is hair. So I have very long hair. My hair is like mid back length and I struggle with finding ways to make that look polished, whether, you know, depending on how I style it or accessorize it. So if you could share some tips or advice or guidance on, you know, uber professional hairstyles that are not requiring a, you know, hairstyling license to do, that would be awesome. Secondly is I have wide feet. Where can I find beautiful and formal wide width office shoes that'll go with my stylish wardrobe? And last but not least is what about glasses? So I have a round face and what kind of frame would be most flattering and also still professional? Just looking for a little bit of guidance here. Thanks so much Danielle.
A
That made me smile so much. I am glad you saved up and sent in all of these awesome questions at once. I'm going to answer them in reverse order because the last one is going to be very quick to address. I have a whole episode on finding the perfect sunglasses and frames for your face. It's number 44. I'm going to link it up in the show notes for you. There's also a whole blog article over on my website so you can see helpful visual examples of not only which frames are best, but also examples of the various face shapes so you can hopefully figure out your own. If, unlike Danielle, you're not sure what your face shape is, I think it's sometimes easier to see ourselves more clearly in a photo, so I might suggest snapping a quick selfie and then doing a side by side comparison with the celebrity examples in that article. If you're not sure what your face shape is, don't forget to pull your hair back too so you can get an accurate read on that. But Danielle, if you are short on time this season, and I know many of us are, I just did a whole Come to Jesus episode on Monday where I shared the changes I'm making in my own life and business to try and slow down a little bit and prioritize what's most important right now. So I am going to give you the Cliffs Notes version in case you don't have time to go back to that other episode or to check out the blog article. I actually explained that with round faces, sometimes you're going to hear the advice that you need to counter this by choosing sharp angular frames instead, but I think this actually draws more attention to the stark contrast between the two. So instead my advice is that it's better to work with your personal features. This is pretty much my thought on all things fashion and wardrobe related. It's always better to work with your inherent features and beauty, so I would suggest that you opt for glasses that are medium size or a little bit smaller. You're going to want to go rectangular in shape, but you want to make sure that you're choosing frames that have a curved edge so that it relates to the curvature of your face shape. I would probably start by searching for oval shaped glasses for women and then see what you think of what you find there. Of course, you could also add the terms designer or high end into the search if you want to preface it by like high end oval shaped glasses for women, something like that. That will make sure that you get some especially posh frames, more high end labels for the office. And I also want to add that round face shapes are typically as wide as they are long and that's the reason that I suggest you avoid anything too oversized because you don't want to get lost behind them. I don't want the first thing people to see when they look at you are your glasses. I want them to compliment you well. I want you to look beautiful behind them. So unless you have a creative or dramatic aspect to your style. In that case, I would be more on board with you making an intentional choice to let your glasses be an oversized statement piece. But otherwise it sounds like, at least for the office, you need to lean into more classic and elegant styles. So I would probably go mid sized and more rounded at the edges. All right, your next question is where to find beautiful shoes for wide feet. And I love this. I love that you are not willing to compromise or settle. You obviously get to wear the most beautiful shoes and I have a handful or two of really great options for you to shop. If you've been listening to her style podcast for a long time, you probably already know about my not so secret love affair with Nordstrom. I think that they have, hands down, the best shoe collection. Not only because they carry such an amazing range of styles and a lot of price points, I think you'll be surprised by that. But they have tons of sizes. Oh my goodness, they have tons of sizes. This is where I send clients that have really tiny feet. This is where I send clients that have larger size feet. When you're shopping at Nordstrom's website online, you can filter your searches by tons of things, including width. So you're going to want to head to the shoe category. And then on the side you can filter your results based on everything from heel height and shape, material, the type of closure that's on the shoes, even of course, basic things like color and style obviously. But you can scroll all the way to the bottom of that list only because it's in alphabetical order. And you're going to see an option for width. And then from there you can go even more specific than that. You can select women's shoes. And then you are going to see options from 4a, which is super slim, all the way up to 3e, which is the widest available width. Now, I'm going to admit to you, the wider or narrower you choose, the fewer options you're going to see. But there are some really beautiful shoes in the E or extra wide range, as well as C and D which is the standard wide width. So I would start there if you can. There is a really helpful shoe chart with width information@fitmyfoot.com it's in inches, but metric friends, if that is a conversion nightmare for you, you can also find a similar chart at size Lynch Nordstrom is not the only place that you can find beautiful wide width shoes though. There are also options at stores like Dillard's, DSW and Zappos. They all have great selections for wide and extra wide feet as well and you can of course filter through all of these sites and find those particular options. I also want to give you a few of my favorite brands that offer wide sizes with really gorgeous selections. So a few names that I like to recommend are Sam Edelman, that's one of my favorite designers as well. For shoes. Franco Sardo has beautiful options. Cole Haan is a little bit higher price, but they have some good wide sizes for you as well. Vionic is definitely more of a comfort brand, but they do have some really beautiful boots and flats that are in wide widths. Marks and Spencer is a UK based brand but they have great choices. Calla Shoes C A L L A Calla Shoes is another UK brand but they have an absolutely stunning shoe selection and they do offer free shipping on most shoes to the us. I think you will absolutely love them, so definitely check those out as well. Or you could even explore made to order shoes from the brand. Adelante. I'm going to spell it for you. A D E L A N T E Adelante and they will customize them to your exact size. I've heard great things about that company as well. It's a sustainable brand so a ton of options worth checking out for sure. 2025 is coming in hot and I know you don't want to spend one more year struggling over what to buy, what to wear and how to put it all together. This is the time to break out of the same T shirt and jeans you default to every day. You're ready to uplevel your style, streamline your wardrobe and find exactly what you want and need when you go shopping so you can step out with confidence and put your outfits together quickly and stylishly every single day. All right, I just gave you almost a dozen amazing options for wide width shoe shopping, so please let me know what you end up finding this season and which brands you fall in love with. And to answer your final question about quick and easy corporate friendly long hairstyles, I first need to make the disclaimer that I am not a hairdresser. I would love to bring in an expert for more on the topic of hair in the New year. So let me know what you want us to cover in a future episode. But I did what I thought was going to be a very quick YouTube tutorial search and then I went down a massive rabbit trail. And friend, there are so many easy super cute hairstyle videos over there that you can do in just a few minutes. I searched easy corporate hairstyle for long hair and then just checked out a bunch of the shorts. You're going to find some hits and some misses, but I would save any that you really like to a Pinterest board for this specific purpose so that you can quickly go back and watch them in the morning, you're short on time. Or if you're looking for a creative way to style your hair for the office any day of the week, start building up a good go to collection of options to try. And I have to say here's what I noticed in my search. In every single video, every single one, the person's hair was already blown dry and looking great. And I think that's truly the key to a polished hairstyle. Whether you wear it down or you put it in an updo, or if you want to wear it half up, you're going to want it to look smooth and curled or straightened before you attempt these styles. I think that is the secret to success when you're doing an updo. In particular, I have very awkwardly wavy hair and so I need to build in a little bit of extra time. Or I need to try styles like this with two or three day hair, not freshly washed when it's already somewhat smooth from sleeping on it and all of that. This may not be an issue for you. I just want to make you aware you could have enviably curly hair or beautifully Straight hair. But I think it's worth noting, the better your hair looks before you put it into an updo, the better it's going to turn out at the end. Now you could also run a very similar search on Pinterest if you're not a YouTube person, if you just want kind of some quick, easy visual tutorials, or if you want to expand your search a little bit more. But I'm going to give you a couple of ideas that I think would be so easy for you to conquer. I think a sleek low ponytail, either with or without some soft curls at the end, is a really gorgeous, timeless look. You could always leave a few strands out and then wrap them around the base of the ponytail. For an elevated look, just grab a bobby pin and tuck it in and call it a day. A low bun is something that I will do a lot. I think that's another really easy and professional updo option. If you could practice and master a French twist, I absolutely love that look. For a corporate setting and because your hair is extra long, I think you would get a lot of fullness to that. I think it's going to look really polished and beautiful for you. I would see if you could find some good hacks online for a French twist and then maybe spend a few minutes practicing it on the weekend until you can get faster and more confident with it. During the week you could also invest in a few timeless looking barrettes or classic hair clips for a quick half up look that still feels really polished and put together. In this case, I would probably go with something like a tortoise shell or just a basic black or a really simple brushed gold or something like that that's not too flashy. I would go on the simpler side. For your work setting, I often recommend accessorizing with pretty silk scarves or hair bows or embellished bobby pins. But based on the way you described your career and how you need to show up, I think you're going to look more polished and powerful with simpler styles and accessories. The most important thing for you, Danielle, is probably going to be to make sure that you steer away from messy, undone styles and updos and err on the side of sleek and finished so that you can show up looking really authoritative and ready to take on your day. You're gonna wanna have a good hairspray in your arsenal or maybe even invest in a hair mascara that's gonna help smooth any flyaways. I grabbed a really cheap one on Amazon and it works wonders. I absolutely love it, so I would just recommend that you hone in on maybe three to five hairstyles that you can take your time with and really conquer. Opt for things that work with the length and texture of your hair, so keep that in mind as you are doing your search. You're gonna wanna look for tutorials with people that have a similar hair length and texture as yours so that you can most easily replicate that for yourself. And remember that less is more. I think it's great if you could just focus on mastering one style and then start working on the next one if you want to branch out, but really you just need a couple of go to looks and then you could easily rotate through those and wear them to the office on repeat. I hope that this episode has made it so much easier and more enjoyable for you to shop for glasses and beautiful shoes and get ready for your day at the office with confidence and ease. Friend.
