It's that time of year again where we take a deep dive into the hottest fashion trends of the season. I know these are some of your favorite episodes to listen to, and they're just as fun for me to put together. I'm no longer the trend chaser I once was, but I do love keeping a pulse on what's happening in the industry and more importantly, I love helping you navigate what to wear. Let's team up today to figure out which ones are going to fit seamlessly into your life and onto your body and talk about how to wear them off the catwalk with confidence. If you're ready to translate the trends into your everyday style, then settle in and get ready to jot down some notes. Your autumn wardrobe is about to look better and more current than ever. Welcome to her Style Podcast where we're all about empowering you to show up and get dressed every day with confidence. I'm your host Heather Riggs, a 15 year and counting certified image consultant and color specialist ready to build a wardrobe and a personal style you love. Let's get started. My goal for this episode is to leave you feeling empowered around this season's trends, not in any way, shape or form pressured by them. You absolutely do not need to buy anything new this season, let alone anything on this list, especially for the sole reason that it's on this list. I really want you to lean into your style intuition, trust what works works for you and what gaps you legitimately need to fill in your wardrobe. But if you are someone who likes to incorporate a thoughtful trend or two into your closet just to keep things feeling fresh, then I know you are going to love this conversation. We're going to cover the top 21 trends and with this much variety, there is bound to be something for everyone. Not only that, but I am committed to taking these trend episodes a couple steps further. I will also offer up my best advice on which trends are going to work best for which style personalities, body types and personal coloring. Because I want you to be empowered not just with what's happening in fashion, but to know that you can reach for the right ones this season. So we're going to try to take a personalized approach and make sure that you are choosing wisely. And of course, I also want you to think about what is going to fit into your everyday life and your wardrobe the best. So try to avoid pieces that are going to require you to buy a lot of other pieces in order to make them work. And remember that cost per wear is critical, so don't scoop something up if you are never going to have an occasion to wear it. When it comes to trends, I'm all about reaching for the low hanging fruit. So try the ones that feel and sound like a surefire hit and don't break the bank on anything that might be out of style as fast as it came in. All right, with all those disclaimers out of the way, it is time to get into it. We have a lot to cover and I will say first that the fall 2025 fashion is bringing a big beautiful mix of indulgent textures, some nostalgic revisits. I think everything is kind of classic but so elevated it feels really modern and now. And of course we are looking at a lot of elevated ease. And just like what we saw this past spring, there are endless ways to make it your own. I think style is always something to be personalized and tailored to fit your preferences in your life. But I think right now we are in a really exciting time where anything goes and you can truly make it your own without anyone batting an eye. So first we are going to start with some of the key themes and I'm going to give you, like I said, a hand curated list of 21 trends to watch and consider incorporating into your own collection. So as we're going through this, maybe jot any down that particularly resonate with you and feel exciting for you. So you'll get your seat for the bootcamp and you'll get our visual trend guide so you know exactly what we're talking about in this audible episode today. You'll be able to see everything and some really beautiful images to inspire you. All right, without further ado, let's Dive into some of our key themes. The first one is autumn Boho. Bohemian looks have been trending quite a while now, but the main difference coming into the cooler fall and winter months are heavier fabric applications like suede and leather. So maybe think a suede or leather skirt jackets with flowy lines, also darker hues. Basically, boho is evolving from light spring feels into heavier weight and more serious moods for the fall. I think this is a very flattering look for natural and creative blends. So if you love kind of those effortless, easy, breezy outfits, but with almost an ethereal or earthy feel to it, this could be the perfect style theme for your wardrobe this season. And just as a quick fit tip, because I know heavier fabrics and flowing pieces can be a little bit overwhelming. So if you are petite, you might want to just try one heavier piece rather than trying to wear it from head to toe. All right. Our second trend to watch is sports inspired pieces. The track pant CR is definitely continuing as well, but this season it's all about blending them with luxe materials and a polished finish. It's kind of like playing dress up for gym class. And I think this is the perfect trend for when you want to look pulled together while staying cozy. And in general, we're seeing workout bottoms take on more billowy shapes this fall as well. So if you are someone who's over the fitted leggings look, then this is your season to branch out. As for the track pants themselves, I think this is ideal for natural and elegant style combinations, but it can also be an alluring look if you style it right. For example, you could pair your track pants with a structured top and heels, but we're also seeing a lot of layered ensembles this fall. Personally, I'm a big fan of the way Kith styled theirs on the Runway, which you'll be able to get a glimpse of in my trend report this weekend to give you again, some good visual inspiration. But it just feels modern, cool and extremely wearable. And speaking of modern, this brings us to our third trend to watch, which is modern academia. I'm talking tweed skirts, scholarly knits and preppy layering, but with, again, an extreme sense of polish, a real finished feel to it. This is going to be great for classic and elegant style types. And again, if you are more petite in your frame, you might want to choose cropped layers so that you don't look overwhelmed in those chunky knits and the heavier fabrics of the season. Our fourth big theme this fall is refined rocker, and I hope that you are sensing the overall theme for autumn. Like I said, we're just taking some of our favorite nostalgic themes like prep and punk rock and making them feel a little more fancy for fall. So instead of your typical rock and roll edgy vibes, we're seeing lots of tailored leather and subtle stud accents and some edgy softness. This is going to work nicely for creative style types, alluring style types, and also dramatic personalities. I think could really get on board with this one. But again, we're just thinking polished edginess. And the best way to wear it is, I think, by just choosing one statement piece, maybe like a leather blazer, so that you can avoid looking costumey and it fits in well with your overall wardrobe and your everyday life. All right, number five is elevated apreski alpine knits and chunky weaves mixed with plush textured like dramatic fur and metallics for a comfy, chic, fresh off the slopes look with a luxe heritage feel. That's kind of the essence that we're getting out of the elevated apres ski look. It's elegant all the way. This is going to be perfect for you this winter if you love to look a little bit posh higher end, but still have a little touch of cozy in your outfit. As a style tip, you can balance a heavier knit with some sleek trousers so you don't feel overwhelmed in your outfit. And I think as far as color goes, you can either opt for cool winter whites or some icy tones if you have a cooler complexion. If you prefer warmer hues, I think cream or taupe is going to suit you really nicely this season. Number six is Western glam ranch inspired shirting suede with concho belts. I'm talking about those Native American inspired large silver. They're typically oval shaped kind of ornamental belts. Hopefully that's giving you a good visual on what I mean there. And this trend overall, just all western glam is going to be functional and fashionable. I think this is a really easy one to pull off because you can go big, you could go subtle. However, it's going to best integrate with your personal style. But of course it's going to be a pretty seamless fit for natural and creative style types. And for a little fit advice, you might want to try tucking in just one side of your shirt for an easy, carefree style. And of course, you can layer belts over absolutely anything. We're going to talk more about those a little later this episode because belts are a huge key accessory for the fall as well. All right, let's move away from the core themes, which, again, are all familiar but just elevated with more texture and high end detailing than you've seen before. And now we're going to get into some specific items or styles that we're going to be seeing a lot of this season. The first one is polo neck sweaters. We saw a lot of polo necks last year as well. They're definitely still strong for the fall in more of the season sweater variation. And this is going to give you a really classic, slightly preppy vibe for your outfit. And I think that they offer so much versatility. It's such a practical piece. I think it's going to be a timeless style, even though it's also really trend heavy right now. And you could wear it with anything from a skirt to trousers to jeans. There's just so much that you can do with a basic polo neck sweater. Of course, this is going to work well for classic and elegant style types, and it's just going to be a great basic piece that you don't really have to overthink. You can find them and anywhere pick a color that you love and have fun with this one. All right. The next one is skinny flares. If you're looking for a fresh denim style to add to your collection this season, you might want to look at skinny flares for some good, clean lines that can really help to balance your proportions. These are going to work best on inverted triangle and rectangle body shapes because they're going to help to add some curvature and visual interest to your lower half. If you want to pair them with boots, boots or heels, that can help to also elongate your legs even further. And also dark wash denim is going to give you a really classic kind of slimming effect as well. So skinny flares are in. If you're looking for a new denim silhouette, the next one is hourglass or cinched blazers. I'm really excited to see us moving away from all of the oversized blazers. Even though that is such a cool aesthetic. I'm really feeling the more shape defining silhouettes that are coming out this season. So you can look for tailored jackets and that just cinch and bring some good definition to your waistline. This is going to work best for dramatic, elegant, and of course, classic style types. It's also going to give you kind of an alluring or feminine feel because it's really going to show off your curves a bit too. So I really think this one could be pretty universally flattering from a style perspective, especially if you're looking for some new pieces to bring into your workwear. For shape advice, I think single button styles are going to work best for curvy figures. And if you do have more of a triangle shape or if you just love a dramatic jacket, then you might want to look for something that has a really strong line through the shoulder as well. All right, the next one is going to be knee length skirts. We are finally seeing longer hemlines again. We're moving away from all the micro minis and knee length skirts are it for the fall. They're also going to be a little bit more universally flattering than a midi length skirt, and this is going to give you a nice professional kind of ladylike feel. So I do think that they're ideal for the office as well. Knee length skirts are going to be great for classic and feminine personal style types. As I said, a line is pretty universally flattering. If you like a good pencil skirt, that's going to give you some sleeker lines and also help to show off more of your natural shape. If you can hear panting in the background. My wild and crazy puppy has now joined us for the podcast recording, so I apologize if there is a little bit more background noise through the second half of this episode. So thanks for bearing with us as we are in this crazy stage right now where she needs lots of love and extra attention. All right, the next item to keep an eye on is a good bolero or shrug, and I have a feeling that this trend is going to be a love it or hate it, but if you are feeling it this season, then one of the key pieces that we're seeing are those cropped toppers. And it could be a really good layering piece for transitional weather. You could wear one over a sleeveless dress to help you stay warm in the fall season without adding a lot of bulk to your outfit. And it's going to work well for feminine and creative styles. I also like it for triangle shapes because it's going to add a bit more visual weight up top and help to draw the eye to your shoulders and face. All right, the next one is more of a styling detail than a specific type of garment, but we're talking about draped and fringed items and I know fringe is not new. I feel like I've been reporting on fringe and for the past five years. I'm not exaggerating, but it's still very much a thing. And so if you're a fan of texture and a lot of movement in your clothing, you could consider updating your closet with A few draped or fringed pieces, even in otherwise more minimalist styles, and you're going to look totally on trend this season. I think these are going to both work best for dramatic style types or maybe alluring styles too, because it's going to add some extra visual interest. You can be strategic in the placement and draw the eye where you want it to go to maybe one of your favorite features. And I would suggest that you keep the rest of your outfit understated so that the texture and drape can really become the central focus. Now, of course, it wouldn't be a cool weather fashion update without reporting on the top outerwear trends. So first up, we have funnel neck jackets, and this is going to give you some nice modern structure with a really cozy appeal. Funnel neck jackets are going to work really nicely for elegant and dramatic style types. And as far as length goes, I would recommend staying on the shorter side if you are petite or shorter in stature, and then go for more of a mid length coat if you are taller. The next option for outerwear is going to be faux fur and we'll also throw in floor length coats as well. These are both going to give you some luxurious textures and dramatic length, so of course, no surprise they're going to work beautifully for dramatic style types. And I think elegant aesthetics will also do really well in both of these too. So you could wear an eye catching faux fur or floor length coat if you're looking to invest in one of those more statement making items this season. All right, let's talk about my favorite thing, which is some color trends and we're going to keep this one a little bit shorter and sweeter this season because I don't want to say there's not much going on in terms of color, there's so much color to be had. But I think we can really boil it down to three key trends that we're seeing most. The first one is jewel tones across the board. This is like the strongest color palette player for the fall, and I think that it's a great one because jewel tones are fairly universally flattering, so you should be able to find an option that works well. For example, eggplant and teal are universally flattering colors, so you could grab one of those or of course, some warmer tones if you have a warmer complexion. So many options within that ballpark, but jewel tones are going to be everywhere this season. And then of course, two of the top color trends that we're seeing still picking up for fall are going to be burgundy, which is just a Beautiful, rich color for this season. It does work well on all skin tone types, but I would recommend leaning a little bit more into the berry burgundy direction if you have a cooler complexion and then maybe goes a little bit warmer in more of the brick or maroon sort of family. If you do look best in warmer colors. But in general, burgundy is going to be a big winner this fall along with dark chocolate. So this is another deep, luxurious color for the season. And if your eye color is dark brown, then please do yourself a favor and finally scoop up some pieces in this hue. I talk all the time about how powerful it is to wear your eye color, and I have heard from a lot of women over the years that they do not like to wear brown. But if you are ever going to venture to try it, this is your season. There are so many elegant, gorgeous pieces in dark chocolate right now, so definitely give it another shot. And of course, don't force yourself to wear anything you don't absolutely love. But I think this is your time to shine if you have those rich chocolate brown eyes. All right, moving on to some key fabrics and prints. I have to include lace in here, which is not always the case for fall and winter clothing. Sometimes lace is more of a spring, summer kind of fabric. But this is going to give you a very romantic feel for the season. And of course you can look for full length and long sleeve lace pieces and then maybe pair them with some modern tailoring just to avoid feeling overly doll like, unless that is your thing. And then you go all the way, baby. All right, our 17th trend is we're going to move into prints now. And I want to talk about plaid because this is still a very on trend yet classic print. So this is such a safe bet if you want to look current, but you don't want to look look too far outside the box. So this is a perfect option for classic style lovers. But I do think it's a really adaptable print for anyone, depending on the way you style it and what type of application you choose. Now, as far as picking the perfect plaid goes, I would recommend small scale plaids if you have a more petite frame. And then of course, you could go bigger and bolder with your checks if you have a taller frame, also depending on your personal styling. And then I have to recommend that you go back and listen to episode number one 23, which is all about picking the perfect fabrics and prints for you for even more tips. And I talk about how to incorporate your facial features into the patterns that you wear. So that's a really good episode to help empower you around choosing the best print trends to pick up each season as well. All right, and the next print that we have to talk about are all types of animal prints. I'm talking leopard, snakeskin, cow print. Any animal print goes for fall and winter and you could just put a little touch of that in with an accent, maybe your shoes or a handbag. Or you could go full head to toe animal print this fall. You can also mix your prints so you could do leopard and zebra print. I'll show you some visual examples of that, of course, in our guide this weekend as well. If you are feeling bold and you want to go big, this is a really great option for alluring and dramatic styles. Now, as for accessories, this season we are seeing so many statement belts. I already gave you the spoiler on this one earlier in the episode, but they are going to bring you instant waist definition and style to finish any look. So if you do not have a strong belt collection and this is something that you've been wanting to work towards, this is your season to stock up on some amazing belts. Now of course, you can keep things simple and natural or you can go big and bold and dramatic. Whatever you do, there's so many different ways to wear them as well. You can throw it over a coat or a cardigan to give you some nice defined lines in your outfit, or you could pair a slouchy belt over a knee length skirt. So just look around for lots of inspiration. Take to Pinterest or Google, check out the Runway shows and see all the different applications for belts. But this is definitely like the accessory to have have this season. And as far as handbags go, slouchy handbags are the silhouette for the season. And what's beautiful about this is that it's so easy, it's functional. You can throw everything that you need in it. For the day. We're moving away from like the micro mini handbags and the little clutches to big slouchy handbags for the fall. This is perfect too if you have a natural and creative style because again, it's just going to give you some ease, effortlessness, and also kind of that earthy feel as well. And our last trend, we did it, we reached number 21. And this is, sorry, it's a big umbrella, but statement footwear. And I'm going to give you a couple specifics within this. So I guess we've really got like five more bonus trends as well. But under the umbrella of statement footwear, red patent shoes are going to give you a big, bold, dramatic look. Again, so many options and of course trends are always geared more towards those dramatic fashion forward style lovers. But there's ways to things down and make it work for you too. Another one are slipper mules which are going to give you more of an elegant but also kind of easy, maybe work friendly option for your wardrobe. If we're talking boots, there are two big things that you might want to pick up for the season if they suit you. The first one is slouchy boots. Relaxed textural boots are really in right now. It's going to give you a little bit of that sex appeal. Or if you want an even sexier look, you could pick some dramatic snakeskin boots that are going to give you some modern edginess. And then our last kind of statement footwear idea to watch are knee high socks and shoes. This is going to be so playful. It's creative. It's definitely going to give you a dramatic look. It kind of lends itself to that modern academia trend that we talked about before. But knee high socks with shoes are definitely trending for the fall. So friend, I just gave you a lot of food for thought. I know it's sometimes hard to talk these out without seeing all the visuals that go with it, so do make sure that you opt in for our wardrobe revamp bootcamp@herstylellc.com bootcamp that will automatically put you into our VIP email list so you'll get to catch up on our trend report coming out this weekend.
