And when you're ready, let's dive into the five can't miss style tips from the Wardrobe Revamp Bootcamp. Welcome to Her Style Podcast where we're all about empowering you to show up and get dressed every day with confidence. I'm your host, Heather Riggs, a 15 year and counting certified image consultant and color specialist ready to build a wardrobe and a personal style you love. Let's get started. We packed a ton of information into this four day training and one of the biggest aha moments came right at the start of the boot camp. So many women realized they have been chasing trends, copying everyone else's outfits or bouncing between styles depending on what's right in front of them. But true style isn't about having a Pinterest worthy closet full of expensive pieces and all the latest trends. It's actually all about consistency. The outfits you wear should tell the same story on the outside as who you are on the inside. What you wear and how you present yourself tells people in the blink of an eye a whole lot about who you are. So I want you to think about your wardrobe from a different perspective. Not just as pretty clothes or things to wear, but as an opportunity to tell an accurate story story about who you are through the way in which you show up. Now I think that the secret to having a really good, amazing style, it's having consistency between who you are on the inside and how you show up on the outside. And this does take a little bit more intentionality, thoughtfulness and planning to bring to life. I was a style chameleon in my 20s and I do think there is a season for playing and trying lots of different things. But if you want to build a streamlined wardrobe that you love, it is time to dive in your look in this phase of your life and figure out what works authentically for you. You really want to figure out what your personal style is, what you want to communicate about yourself to the world and be consistent in how you go about that. That is the foundation for everything, my friend. If you want your wardrobe to feel cohesive and effortless, then I would invite you this week to pick one or two words that you want people to think of when see you. For example, you might want to walk into a room and have people stop and say, okay, she looks confident or she looks approachable or creative or fun. Whatever it is, I want you to keep those words in mind when you're choosing what to buy or what to wear each day and make sure that you infuse them into your signature style. So takeaway number one is that good style is about consistency, not trends, not having a ton of money to spend on the clothes that you wear. It's just about having consistency between your inner and outer image. Next, we tackled one of the most frustrating wardrobe struggles, which is learning how to flatter your figure. I know this is a big topic and I want to be clear. This isn't about changing your body at all. It is about embracing where your body is today and using basic design principles to help you feel more confident in your clothing right now. And I know we often skip this step and we kind of wonder why outfits that look cute on others don't work on us. Has that ever happened to anyone here? Like, tell me, what's the thing that you keep trying to wear? And maybe you love how it looks when you see it on other people, but it just never seems to work for you. I know we have all been in that situation. For my sister, it's high waisted jeans because she is short waisted and every time she tries to wear a high waisted jean, she's like, I can't. I'm not doing it for me. I live in high waisted pants. But we are also unique. Unique. Okay, I'm seeing oversized blazers, dolman sleeves, jean jackets, wide leg pants. Yeah, we can appreciate things on other people, but it's so important to figure out what brings out your best and makes you feel your most confident. And unfortunately, I think sometimes when we see something look amazing on someone else and then we try to wear it and it doesn't work, we make it mean something about us or we make it mean something about our ability to put an outfit Together. And I want to tell you right now, it is not you. There is nothing wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with your body. It's the clothes. So we need to figure out what works for you, what doesn't, and why. This information is so empowering. It puts you in the driver's seat, and it gives you the knowledge to pick and choose much more selectively and be really discerning about what you buy and what you wear and how you put it all together. This is my favorite thing about the collective and the training this week is just empowering you with information so that you're not just getting dressed, following the trends, wearing what everybody else is wearing, but truly choosing the things that you know make you feel amazing. This shift is huge. Once you see your clothes as a way to bring out your best, not as a judgment of how your body is at the moment, you will feel so much more empowered when you get dressed. And so takeaway number two is, it's not you, it's the clothes. All right, now, takeaway number three is one of my favorites. It's plan first, shop last. I want you to listen in as I explain my reasoning. Why live at the bootcamp? The truth is that shopping should be the last thing that you do. I know that you're busy, and when you're frustrated with your closet, the natural solution seems like running out and buying something new. Because there is some truth to like retail therapy, right? Buying new things can temporarily lift your mood, boost your spirits, make you feel better, and it can help fill that immediate void, but it really doesn't get to the root of the problem. So if you are wanting to revamp your wardrobe and you're looking at jumping right into shopping and going out and just buying stuff, you probably are finding that you keep ending up in the same cycle over and over and over again. When you take the time to pause first and plan instead, so many amazing things can happen with that. You get to reconnect with what you already have. It gives you an opportunity to pinpoint the gaps in your wardrobe and really look at what is actually missing here. You can make a strategic shopping list. This is going to help you avoid impulses and buyer's remorse. I know nobody here has ever felt that you buy something, and then you get home and you're like, why did I buy that thing? I don't love it. It doesn't work with anything in my closet. We want to eliminate those feelings, not even necessarily because they're mistakes. I think we can learn from those things, but just to save you a lot of time and stress having to make returns. Often it can save you money. You're not buying things you don't really need or love. You get to maximize your budget when you plan for it, and then you will actually have what you need to get dressed. As you can see, the real solution is planning. First, we don't want to put a band aid on the problem. If you have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear or too much to wear and you're feeling overwhelmed, then it's time to slow down and get strategic. Seriously, this one simple change is a complete game changer. Another big conversation we had last week was around the concept of capsule wardrobes. Most people think they have to be small, only, neutral in color, and made up of all classic staple pieces. But that is not true. Your capsule wardrobe should reflect your life, your style, and what excites you. All right? And the last capsule wardrobe myth that I hear a lot is that you need to build it with clothes. Classic staples only. People said this the perfect white button down shirt or a plain white T shirt or the little black dress, right? We hear that you got to have all those classic staple pieces like I showed you earlier, but that is not practical or appealing for everyone. You know, a lot of you have classic style preferences. You shared about that in your homework yesterday. But a lot of you don't. A lot of you have feminine romantic preferences or you want to feel comfortable, creative, or maybe you like things that are a little bit alluring or outside the box and dramatic and a little more fashion forward. And so I just want to remind you that you are the one wearing your clothes. I know that's so obvious, but sometimes we don't think about it. You're the one getting dressed. You have to like what you buy. You don't have to wear what everybody else tells you to wear, especially if it doesn't appeal to your personal tastes. So nobody else is getting dressed in your closet but you? Maybe your kids, they like to play dress up or steal your clothes. But your dream wardrobe gets to be what you want it to be. So my feeling is that an effective capsule wardrobe is not one size fits all. We don't have to follow the same rules and capsule wardrobe essentials checklists. We don't all have to have the same exact types of pieces in our closet. I think your dream wardrobe gets to be what you want it to be, what excites you and works for your life and what reflects who you are and your personal style. So you can have fun with this process. You can design a timeless capsule, a creative capsule, a colorful capsule, a minimalist, neutral capsule. There are no rules here other than keeping your foundations in mind. As we talked about yesterday and going through the process today to plan and figure out what you truly want and need to feel your best each and every day, everywhere you go. I hope it's crystal clear that takeaway number four is that your capsule wardrobe needs to work for you. Whether you want 30 or 333 items in your closet, a rainbow of colors, or only a handful of your best, the world is your oyster. And the only thing your capsule wardrobe truly needs is to be a cohesive collection that's easy to mix, easy to wear, and makes you excited to get dressed for your everyday life. Doesn't that feel so freeing? All right, finally, we close the bootcamp with one of the most important takeaways, the value of shopping with intention. Because if you don't shop with strategy and a plan, you're bound to keep experiencing buyer's remorse and adding more clutter and confusion to your closet. It's important to be confident and empowered when you shop, and no one can do that for you. You are the only one that can make these decisions for yourself in a confident way. And if you know what you want and what you like, they're going to follow your lead. If you look like you have no idea what you're doing, they're going to direct you to all kinds of things that are just going to confuse you and that you might go home with and regret later. So I'm going to give you six of my favorite questions to ask both myself. I do this when I'm shopping. I love to teach this to my clients so that we can choose pieces with even greater discernment and avoid regretting what we buy down the road. Okay, so the first one is, would I save this to my style mood board? We talked about this question when you were auditing yesterday, and you can use the same thing when you're shopping for new pieces. Is this something that aligns with your style preferences and your goals for your wardrobe and the direction that you want to take it in the season ahead? So would you save this to your mood board that's going to help you not to settle? The key here is to be the leader when you shop. Know what you want, what you like, and what works for you before you walk into a store or you head out to the Internet to look for what is on your shopping list. Because I want you to hunt for what you want and stop browsing all the things you don't truly need. That's how you can finally eliminate impulse buying and begin building a wardrobe you love. So those are the five can't miss style tips from the Wardrobe Revamp bootcamp we talked about. Number one, style is consistency, not trends. Number two, if you don't feel good in what you're wearing, it's not you, it's the clothes. Number three plan first, shop last four capsule wardrobes don't have to be limiting. And number five, the importance of shopping with intention and being empowered as you do so. And honestly, that's just scratching the surface of what we covered last week.
