December is officially here. Holiday parties are popping up on your calendar and this is your moment to step out feeling like the most stylish, comfortable, confident version of yourself, no matter what kind of event you're walking into. And the great news. This year's holiday trends are fun, fresh, and surprisingly wearable. Instead of the same old sequins and satin story, the fashion world is giving us a mix of sleek silhouettes, modern drama, cozy luxe textures, and accessories that instantly elevate even your simplest outfits. Today, we're breaking down the seven standout trends you can borrow from and make completely your own. So let's dive in and get you dressed for the holidays. Welcome to her style podcast, where we're all about empowering you to show up and get dressed every day with confidence. I'm your host, Heather Riggs, a 15 year and counting certified image consultant and color specialist, ready to build a wardrobe and a personal style you love. Love. Let's get started. I'm sorry, because I feel like I say this like every other month, but I don't know how. It's already December. My son has this adorable little people advent calendar that he's surprisingly still into, and he ran into my room this morning with the angel for day number one and he was so excited and I'm like, how are we here? How is it already the end of the day, the year? I don't know if it's because I'm a mom now or I'm in my 40s, but time just goes faster and faster. So, friend, we gotta get you ready for all of those holiday events, all the parties and social gatherings that you have going on this month. I know you're a busy bee. There's a lot to do, and we want to make sure that you are showing up feeling stylish and current, but also completely at ease and totally like yourself and comfortable in everything you wear. So I'm going to break down seven of the top holiday style trends that are happening right now so you can pick and choose what works for you. You can embrace these in tandem with the fall trends that we talked about a couple of months ago. All of that is still applicable as well, but these are some really specific combinations and moods that you can consider breaking out for the month of December specifically. This will take you from the holiday parties to New Year's Eve and everything in style. So trend number one, I'm just going to dive right in. We're talking about party ready power tailoring. This is your tuxedo inspired blazer, satin lapels structured vest worn as a top, your perfectly fitted trouser moment. It's polished and sculpted, but still really comfortable, which is the theme that you're going to hear throughout today's episode. So if I had to describe kind of the vibe of this one in one sentence, I think it's elevated holiday energy with a quiet luxury twist. The best way I can describe it is think about Kate Blanchett walking into a holiday event with that calm, collected confidence. Not flashy, not sparkly, just absolutely sure of herself. So it's polished, it's elegant, it's tailored, it's a little bit professional. And just to give you some kind of check marks that you can think about for this one, this trend really focuses on blazers, tuxedo silhouettes, tailored trousers, lapel details, strong shoulders, as I said, vest as tops, suit sets. So you could picture wearing maybe a silky camisole under a blazer with some great wide leg trousers and a metallic heel that would be perfect for an office party, for example. Or maybe you're gonna do a blazer mini dress for a cocktail event. This whole thing is really festive without feeling too fussy. I think the whole thing is kind of giving. I'm festive. But I also came prepared with a fully organized, color coded Secret Santa spreadsheet. So you're ready to show up and party. But you've also put in the. And if you are a classic, elegant or dramatic style type, I think this trend was basically designed with you in mind. We've got structure, clean lines, precision. It all really speaks to your language. Natural and alluring types can definitely make this work too, especially if you choose softer tailoring or a deep V blazer with nothing underneath. That's going to add some sensuality and, of course, a little bit of ease. Now, if you're a feminine style type or more of a creative, this one might not be your favorite, unless you really love a structured moment. Otherwise, I'll probably steer you towards some of the softer or more expressive trends a little bit later in the episode. Okay. Trend number two is sleek, architectural evening wear. This is going to sound similar, but it's different. This is one of the chicest trends of the season. It's all about shape. So I'm talking like clean column silhouettes. One shoulder cuts, sculptural draping. So again, this one's also minimalist, but it's dramatic at the same time in kind of a subtle, quiet way. So with power tailoring, the first trend that we talked about feels like lines, architectural evening Wear is all about shape. So I want you to imagine kind of a modern day goddess motif. And this is kind of where you walk into the room and it's not about sequins or glitter and those, you know, sparkly details that make people look your way. It's really the simplicity and the silhouette. So you're making a statement through the shape of your outfit. I'm going to give you some check marks for this one too, because I really want to help you visualize how this is different from the first trend that we broke down. So you could think about this one with asymmetric necklines, long column silhouettes, sculptural draping, fluid lines, lots of movement, clean, but also dramatic shapes at the same time. Maybe it's strategic cutouts, bias cuts. Think of this as your go to for a formal holiday gala, a dressy New Year's Eve dinner, or of course, a nice restaurant date night. You could think about wearing a one shoulder satin top with a tailored pant or a simple satin dress with sculptural earrings. Anything that has a lot of fluidity, movement, and of course, some beautiful shape to it. Visually, it's the style equivalent of lighting one candle and shifting the whole ambiance of the room. So again, it's a subtle thing, but it makes a huge statement. And this trend is really heaven for elegant, dramatic and alluring types. Classics could find some beautifully cut column dresses that feel refined and simple. And I think feminine types can lean into the soft draping or the goddess like styles. If you're a natural or creative type, you could make this work as well. But you're going to want to look for stretch fabrics that have some comfort, breathability, more relaxed cuts, or some asymmetry that doesn't feel too stiff or formal. Otherwise, this is a trend where you might admire it and still happily skip it. You've got to always know what's right for you. Just as a quick aside, if I'm saying all of these style types and you're not clear what they are or what best applies to you, you might want to pause and go take my free 5 minute personal style quiz. You can find it at herstylellc.com quiz there's also a link in the show notes for you that's gonna give you insight into your top three personal style types. The goal is always to blend them into your own unique combination so it's truly your own. But that quiz will help you get started on the right track. And then when you come back, this episode will Make a little bit more sense. You can kind of pinpoint which trend types are best for your personal style combination. Okay, moving along, trend number three is ultra evening accessories. This one is so fun. It's so doable too, which is what I love about this because you can literally take the simplest sweater dress in your closet, add a pair of sparkly earrings and boom, you are holiday ready. You don't have to buy a lot of extra things to make this trend work. So weird talking about accessories as kind of a key move for you this year. It could be anything from opera gloves to statement tights, crystal heels, oversized earrings, anything that gives one intentional nod to being extra without overwhelming your whole look. So you're just going to pick one key statement accessory, whatever that might be, whatever floats your boat, fits with your personal style. And that's going to give you a ton of mileage toward making a really holiday ready outfit. So this is an ideal trend for girls night out, even a family dinner where you want to look festive without buying a whole new outfit. So maybe you're just going to do a dark wash denim with one of your favorite sweaters in a beautiful color on you, and then you're going to add a gorgeous statement shoe that has some sparkle. Maybe it's a beautiful metallic, or maybe you're going to grab a crystal embossed clutch, or you're going to step out in a simple skirt and turtleneck, but you're going to do a gorgeous statement tight. So again, kind of any normal day to day outfit, but just with one accessory that kicks everything up a notch. I think sometimes these finishing touches are what bring your entire outfit together and also make it the most memorable and make it feel a little bit more elevated, different and special for the holiday season. Now, if you are an alluring, dramatic or feminine style type, this trend is really your playground. Also, creatives, I think, can really get in the mix with this. You can think about those intentional details. Again, whether it's some sheer tights, sculptural earrings, or a beautiful embellished heel, you can lean into artisan or luxury statement pieces. If you're more of a creative or elegant type, if you're a classic or natural type and dramatic accessories make you feel a little bit costumey or like you're stepping into somebody else's style, then always trust that instinct. You might prefer to keep it simple or you might want to pass on this trend altogether. So always trust your instincts and do what feels right for you. But there's so much room to play with this one, you can invest in, you know, costume jewelry and accessories that aren't really going to break the bank for you this season. It's just a great way to finish any look and make your outfit feel a little bit extra. Okay. Trend number four is dark romance. And, oh, this trend, I love it. It's rich, it's moody, it's textured, and it feels like the fashion version of a dark winter romance novel in the best way you can think about. Black lace, velvet burnout, florals, sheer sleeves, the perfect blend of softness and drama. It's kind of like if Wednesday Addams moved to Paris and discovered luxury lingerie. So you might want to try a velvet top and a wide leg pant for a family gathering. That would look stunning. Maybe you want to opt for a moody floral dress with sheer sleeves for a cocktail party. That would be perfection. Dark romance is really well suited for dramatic, alluring, and creative types. I think feminine romantic styles can also obviously play around with this one. Embrace the textures, the moodiness, the depth. All of this is going to work so beautifully for expressive, romantic, and edgy style DNA types. Now, elegance can also do this, too, if you stick to rich velvets or simpler silhouettes. I would go more minimal on the details here. If you're a classic or natural type, this one's probably going to feel a little heavier or more theatrical than what you're comfortable with. So you could opt for a subtle lace trim detail, but there's no need to push yourself. You're going to find more ease and authenticity in some of the other trends on this list. So please feel free to hold out if that doesn't resonate with you. Okay, trend number five, we're moving right along is elevated knitwear. If you've been waiting for the real cozy one, this is it. This trend is exactly that, but it's still elevated in a really beautiful way. So we're seeing off the shoulder knits, ribbed midi dresses, luxe cashmere knit and satin mixtures together. So think warm, comfortable, but still really polished. It's basically saying, I want to feel like I'm wrapped in a blanket, but I also want to look incredible. And my feeling is that you never have to choose between the two. So this is the perfect option for you if you are a natural, feminine, or classic type. I do think this is one of your top trends. You can think about cozy fabrics, soft silhouettes, ribbed textures, warm knits. Everything here supports your style preferences without sacrificing that put together look elegant and creative types. Can absolutely play with this one too, especially if you talk about mixing different textures together or choosing more elevated knits. If you're a dramatic or alluring type, this one might not feel like enough unless you find a sweater with a strong shape, some cutout details, maybe an off the shoulder neckline or some playful color, some visual drama. But if simple knits make you feel too plain or underdressed, then you can definitely leave this one behind guilt free. If this does hit a note for you, then you you might want to think about opting for an off shoulder knit dress and tall boots for your next family dinner. If you have a neighborhood holiday party, you could try a chunky sweater and a sequin skirt. I think that would look super cute. Personally, I'm probably going full on pretty ugly holiday sweater. I can't do straight up ugly holiday sweater, but I'll try to find one that's at least in my best colors. Maybe a more subtle pattern or design and then I do want to wear that with a sequins skirt. We have a dinner party coming up with friends on Friday and I don't know if we would consider ugly holiday sweaters as elevated knitwear, but I'm gonna do my best. So that is one of the things I'm planning to wear this season. And then maybe if you're hosting friends at home, you might want to opt for a cashmere set. Enough said. You want to feel comfortable, but of course still look nice when you're hosting company. So so many options to play around with with the elevated knits, but that's an easy go to if you definitely want to embrace the comfort this season. Trend number six is a fun one. This is the naked ish shoe trend and the way you can think about this one is mesh pumps, minimalist straps, transparent details, the shoes that visually disappear and give you that subtly sexy modern feeling. They're delicate, but they also make a statement in a very sleek way. So options for this you might want to step into some mesh pumps and a sparkly dress for New Year's Eve. Or you could try sheer tights and really delicate strappy heels for girls night. If you're going to an office party, maybe you want to try a minimalist heel paired with a tailored suit. Again, lots of different options to rock this one out. I think it's perfect for alluring, feminine and dramatic types. The shoe trend is basically speaking your love language because it's delicate, modern, subtly sexy. There's lots of visually interesting elements that you can play around with. Of course Elegant and creative types can also enjoy this look by choosing some refined or more unique versions. I suspect that natural and classic types might find this too minimal or too dainty or just not substantial enough. So if you prefer grounded, supportive shoes or if you want your footwear to feel more practical, then this might be a trend to admire from afar. All right, our final one is trend number seven, and this is winter whites and metallic neutrals. So kind of a two for one. You could wear them together, but it's the icy, elegant palette. Editors cannot stop talking about this one. And you know, for me, I've been a long time fan of wearing winter whites, so you could try lots of different color combinations here. It might be chalk, white, oyster, champagne, soft silver, cream on cream, or whichever way you go, you want to think modern, fresh and glowy in a way that feels almost cinematic. Elegance might look really amazing in more tonal layers. I think classics can lean into ivory and soft silver. Feminines might gravitate toward those beautiful blush metallics. Naturals can feel great in cream sweaters. Dramatics could wear maybe more of a crisp white and a strong silhouette. Creatives can mix metallics in surprising ways and of course bringing in maybe some elements of texture here. And alluring types can of course choose slinky champagne pieces. Just remember to always keep your personal coloring in mind. If I've designed a personal color palette for you, then you already know what your best whites and metallics are, so definitely opt for those first before anything else. I think this can be a really good trend for family photos. Maybe you want to do a simple cream sweater and then a satin skirt in a beautiful metallic hue. Or if you're hosting at home, you could go with an ivory knit dress and gold accessories. If you have an evening gathering, you might want to do a metallic silver blouse and some beautiful black trousers. Or you could lean into one of the gorgeous jewel tones that's trending this season as well. I've already told you, I am obsessed with wearing my best whites in the winter. And I was just talking to a client last week who said she always used to pack her whites away this time of year. I know you hear no white after Labor Day, but she decided to keep them out and style them up in some incredibly elegant outfits. And she looked and felt amazing. She had a conference this month. She put a lot of different outfits together that she hasn't worn before with the pieces in her existing closet, and she felt fabulous. So 10 out of 10 recommend keeping your whites out all year long and embrace them for the winter season. It is truly so elegant. Okay, so there you have it friend. We just covered seven holiday trends that you can try this season, maybe even with pieces you already own. I think most of this is how you mix things together and a lot of these trends don't require you to buy anything or much at all. Now as a quick recap, we discussed trend number one Party Ready Power tailoring. Number two Sleek Architectural evening wear. Remember, that one's all about shape. Number three, Ultra evening accessories. Just having that one bold statement piece that enhances your whole outfit and brings everything together. Number four, Dark romance Number five, Elevated knitwear, probably the most cozy and practical of the bunch. Number six, the naked ish shoe trend. And number seven, Winter whites and metallic neutrals. If you combine them together into an outfit, you are going to look absolutely unstoppable. Now of course, keep in mind all of the fall trends that we discussed back in episode number 268 apply here as well. You might want to bring in some jewel tones, faux fur, knee length skirts, cinched blazers, lace plaid leopard print. There are so many other gorgeous styles and trends to choose from this season, so I assure you the sky's the limit. Nobody's going to blink twice if you're wearing something off of this list. So always, always stay true to your style, embrace what feels best on you and wear whatever makes you feel the most confident. It's most important that you can just show up to an event ready to focus out on others and not overanalyzing what you have on. Feeling insecure in your outfit, pulling or tugging on anything or just feeling uncomfortable. We want you to feel your best. So get dressed, embrace what you have on and get out there and have an amazing time at all of your events this season. Remember that what I shared with you today are just some options. It's a starting point to help you feel more of the moment without losing yourself. So if I mentioned a trend today that made your ears perk up, go ahead and try it. Skip whatever didn't resonate and trust that the most stylish woman in the room is the one who feels at ease and aligned in what she's wearing.
