Hey everyone, History As It Happens is back. All right, cut the music, cut the music. Let's talk for a second. First new episodes next week, Tuesday, September 16th. The podcast will be about the enduring importance of the Balfour Declaration of 1917. And my guest will be Victor Gatton. He is an expert in international law at the University of Nottingham. So that'll be Tuesday, September 16th, our first new episode. And you don't need to look anywhere for the show. You'll be able to listen to it where you've always listened to History As It Happens. Let's talk now about the future of this podcast and why you value History As It Happens. So we are living in an era of paywalls and subscription fees. Media consumption is no longer free, and the that goes for independent journalism too. You know, one of the most gratifying things about hosting this podcast has been hearing from you. And that's why I know that you value intelligent, deep conversations with the best historians in the world. I put my roster of regular guests up against any podcast out there. We've tackled topics of enormous complexity over the past four and a half years, but always in ways that are accessible to the broader public, to non experts like myself. History as It Happens will remain dedicated to non partisan, civil, sane analysis, to historical thinking, rather than knee jerk partisan blabber. Why is that? Well, because our origin stories are too important to do it any other way. So starting next week, you'll have a choice when listening to History As It Happens. Here is option number one. You can support the podcast by becoming a subscriber for $5 a month. Just go to historyasit happens.supercast.com Again, that is historyasithappens.supercast.com and you'll find a link to that site in the show notes for this episode you're listening to right now. Again, historyasithappens.supercast.com subscribe to History as It Happens Premium and you'll receive an email to select your preferred feed. Whether it's Apple Podcasts or Spotify or wherever you listen to the show, it'll be the same place you listen to it now. You'll be able to listen to every episode without ads. Ad free listening. You also receive unlimited access to the entire catalog of nearly 500 episodes published since January 2021. And you'll receive exclusive access to bonus episodes two to four per month. And again, no ads in anything you listen to now. Option number two, you will still be able to listen to all new episodes of History As It Happens. But there will be ads. If you choose not to subscribe, you'll hear ads in the beginning, middle and end of every episode. You will also have only limited access to the podcast catalog. The most recent 40 episodes will appear in your feed, meaning you'll lose access to about 460 older episodes. And without a subscription, you will have no access to the bonus episodes. I lay out all these details in my weekly newsletter. Just go to Substack and search for history. As it happens, the newsletter will always be free and and this post is now live again with those options. A subscription for $5 a month or you can continue to listen for free. But there will be ads in every episode and you only have limited access to the catalog and no access to the bonus episodes. So I thank you for listening. I thank you for supporting this show and being in touch with me when you really like an episode or those times you don't like something that has been said on my show. This will continue to be a free speech zone and you can get in touch with me with any complaints or praise whenever you want. My email is martinjdecaromail.com and I will talk to you again next week. Tuesday, September 16th new episodes return.
