On February 22, 1980, the U.S. hockey team defeated the Soviet Union in the "Miracle on Ice" at the Winter Olympics.

The "Miracle on Ice" was a historic game during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, where the underdog U.S. men’s hockey team defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union. At the time, the Soviet team was considered the best in the world, having won four consecutive Olympic gold medals since 1964.
