Edgar Ætheling, the final male descendant of the ancient House of Cerdic, carried the royal legacy of Anglo-Saxon England. Born into turmoil, he faced the Norman invasion and was briefly proclaimed King of England after Harold Godwinson's death at the Battle of Hastings.

Edgar's life as an heir, exile, and crusader marked the end of an era and preserved the legacy of Wessex.
