Earthbound is a spoken word story about my near-death experience.

There remain parts of this story I can’t fully wrap my mind around—even ten years later. But, the more I’m willing to sit with the not knowing… the more space I create to welcome tender parts that once misperceived pain for brokenness and tragedy for fault.

Retelling this story reminds me that if I want to live and grieve well, I must embrace the great mystery of life.

The honest pathway

of wonder

true joy

aliveness

And this—is the curriculum:

acceptance

forgiveness

love, above all.

What if you could keep your heart open… especially in moments you most want to close?

To shield what’s soft—

with armor,

cold and hard as steel.

Permission to put the burden down.

Dance your sorrows, sing your hopes, paint your dreams, give breath to your curiosity, and celebrate your resilience.

Creative process gets to be more about letting go and allowing space for resolve take root, rather than finding answers or solving the puzzle.

Maybe that’s what life is all about, too…

Shedding skin—

slowly and surely

healing scarred tissues,

layer by layer.

Relaxing into the eternal moment—

listening to an entire landscape

of bumps, bruises and fine lines

weathered imperfection.

If there’s one take away I can confidently claim from this NDE, it’s that there’s purpose for my life, and I have the power to choose. No one or thing can take that from me. Choice and control are different. While there’s very little I’m actually in control of, I am always the one who chooses—

who I am

how I respond

and what I create—

even in the vast embrace

of the great mystery.
