A great start but then it all went REALLY wrong. I'd enjoyed all previous books but this one was bad.

Title: A Stormy Night Author: Brian Barber Narrator: Mike Paine Format: Unabridged Length: 7 mins Language: English Release date: 01-25-13 Publisher: Brian Barber Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: A Stormy Night is a new short story by Brian Barber, author of the LYCCYX series. Set on a cold, snowy night in a remote cabin, A Stormy Night finds the main character isolated and alone...or so he thinks. Members Reviews: Recommended A short story with a twist at the end. Deliciously dark, especially because the setting is so commonplace. Won't miss anything if you skip this one This is a short story so it is not going to cost you a lot of time if you want to read it. And while it is not a terrible story, it is not a great little find that so many of the reviews seem to indicate. I had expected the ending when the narrator went searching for the source of the noise. When it proved to be something else (and his fears were relieved), I was afraid he was being lulled into a false sense of security. So read it for yourself and see what happens. After all - it IS short. But I also agree with the reviewer who thought it was stupid. (Although I would have just said dumb.) Great Crescendo to a nice ending. The narrator draws you in and keeps your attention the whole story. As the story unfolds you wonder what will happen next and then the ending happens. Never saw it coming. Very entertaining. NEXT It's a fun little diddy that takes you down a certain path and then BAM! You're like: "What just happened." It's cheap, it's short, and so there's no reason not to have it for those little moments when you need just a little something-something to keep you entertained. Check it out. Elementary The hype was way over rated. It's only a short 10 minute read, so I didn't waste too much of my time thankfully. This might pass off as good in an elementary English class, but not for an example of professional work. I guess I was the April Fool.

It sounds like the set-up to a bad joke: A thief, an insurance salesman, and the Library of Congress call Philip's lawyer to ask about a stolen copy of Pliny's Historia Naturalis. To find it, Philip will risk becoming history himself. The book was stolen on its way from the Library of Congress to California, and the detective guarding it vanished as well. Mired in snow-choked Washington, DC, St. Ives must arrange for a pair of ransoms to avoid becoming a victim of book collectors who value a nice first edition over an investigator's life. Members Reviews: Two Women review Excellent book, pulls in the cyber world, a mistress, murder and rich people. Interwoven very nicely. Several unexpected twists and turns.

Can Weston save the world and his daughter? Or must he make the ultimate sacrifice? Members Reviews: Storyline "2" - Narration "0" What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? Smelser made a huge mistake reading this book herself. I don't mean to be rude, but my 8 year old son reads with more fluidity. It was horrible! I don't mind a weak story, but this was by far the worst narration I have come across and I read a lot. Would you ever listen to anything by Lynne M. Smelser again? Most likely not. What didnt you like about Lynne M. Smelsers performance? Poor characterization, stuttering, repeating entire sentences and just an obvious lack of reading skill.

While out of the way, Julia is still a threat, inspiring the owners of Incentivize to work to find a way to silence her - permanently. Members Reviews: Wild Ride in East Africa Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? The story is action packed, and the plot has enough twists an turns to keep the listener guessing. What did you like best about this story? The surprise ending. Have you listened to any of Tom Spearss other performances before? How does this one compare? I think this is actually his first narration. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? Not really. Some of the violent scenes did make me cringe a bit, however. Any additional comments? An excellent effort from this author/narrator. I'll look forward to future work from him.

Hubbard Narrator: Dan Morgan Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 3 mins Language: English Release date: 01-21-13 Publisher: Audible Studios Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: Johnnie Slade harbours an obsessive love for fine glass objects, so his interest is piqued when he sees photographs of the fabulous Verzelini tazza in a magazine. He follows its trail and finds that someone may already have committed murder to get their hands on it. If, indeed, it ever existed. And what is the relevance of the entry in the dead man's diary that reads 'Dunstreet'? Johnnie finds out what it means - and he also finds Claudia. But his pursuit of both the tazza and the girl are complicated not only by Claudia's blind and autocratic Aunt Elizabeth, but also by the dawning realisation that he is not alone in his quest. And death, of course, is just around the corner. Members Reviews: Outstanding This is Mr. Hubbard at his best and he is always very good. He understands that suspense is not best created by violence, but by the lurking possibility of violence. Johnnie Slade is a collector of old glass and on the track of the ultimate collectible glass and nothing will hinder his pursuit. But then there is Claudia. And just perhaps someone else is lurking all too near. Aside from suspense, the author impressively captures the passion that every collector feels.

There is a dreadful mystery behind the isolated community on the island, and Gifford comes to realise that his own safety depends on remaining ignorant of the truth: that Mackie disappeared because he knew too much. Hubbard Narrator: Dominic Mafham Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 21 mins Language: English Release date: 01-21-13 Publisher: Audible Studios Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: Millie Trent, the toast - or scandal, according to some points of view - of a West Country sailing resort, is found drowned. The verdict is accidental death, although no one seems to know when or why she ended up in the sea. Paul Mycroft, despite his determination not to let the affair spoil his family holiday, finds himself drawn into an enquiry that begins by providing a startling diversity of views on Millie's character and ends by involving him in unexpected danger. Members Reviews: slow but atmospheric Where does Picture of Millie rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far? This was a good 'period piece' thriller. It built up a very convincing picture of a certain middle class crowd in a sleepy seaside resort just after the last war. The pace is slow, so be warned, but it did do a very good job of revealing just how odd and dysfunctional some of the apparently ordinary holiday makers were, once the narrator scratches the surface. Who was your favorite character and why? I don't want to be rude, but I haven't really chosen a 'favourite character' in a novel since I was about 12!. My opinion of the characterisation was that it was surprisingly subtle for this kind of book, and yes, I suppose, the narrator and his family were sympathetic. This wasn't one for fans of gritty realism; no shocks here! What aspect of Dominic Mafhams performance might you have changed? It was a bit too even and he didn't distinguish between the male and female voices enough. Some narrators go too far down the 'funny voices' path, but I found the dialogue between the narrator and his wife in the first chapters quite hard to follow. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? No, it was very good bedtime listening, using the sleep timer. Any additional comments? I'm going to read a couple more of these, I think A satisfactory English mystery The Mycroft family arrive at their holiday destination, a coastal resort where the main interest is dinghy sailing, to find that the topic on everyone's mind was the disappearance of Millie, a pretty flirty woman, old enough to know better. Paul Mycroft is determined that the family holiday should not be spoilt but the discovery, by his children, of Millie's body, in the sea when foul play has to be suspected, puts an end to that. Millie had caused several marital upsets and quite a few people had good reason to be uncomfortable when her death was investigated. A satifactorily comfortable who-dun-it, well narrated, and with a twist which I did not foresee.
