I'm super excited you clicked play on this so we can talk about some of your goals for this coming year. I think this is a really important part, but I'm just, I'm feeling so excited and refreshed. This feels like a really powerful year filled with possibility and opportunity. I was just telling I had some family in town over the holidays and it was so it was my uncle and two cousins and they're from actually. Oh my gosh, we're already going down a rabbit hole really quick. One of my cousins is about to graduate college and she's incredible. They're all from la, like, grew up in Hollywood. My old older cousin, they're all younger than me, way younger than me, but he lives in Brooklyn and he's an incredible artist, like abstract artist, like full time. Totally, totally amazing. And then the younger one is just about to graduate college with like, fashion and business. And she and her mom have run this boutique retail shop. They sell the cutest, like, mom clothes just outside of la. And so she's extremely good at fashion. And so I wanted to ask you guys because the array of amazing people who listen to this show is, is amazing. And we're only like one degree of separation from what she's hoping to find for the summer. So she graduates and she's going to be done in July, I believe, and she wants to connect with an internship at a Big fashion company in New York. So if you have that kind of connection, reach out to me. Lizzieowtossellyourstuff.com she is incredible. She is sharp. She is so well spoken. I'm actually, I was telling them how proud I am to be their, their cousin because they're just such good humans. Like just such kind, thoughtful, smart, generous, brainy, well spoken humans. So if you are connected to something in fashion in New York and you will be needing really, really amazing interns like come summer 2025, please reach out to me. Um, and also if you want to gas up my cousin who's a freaking amazing artist in Brooklyn, email me as well because he is just, oh my gosh, they're such good humans. Anyway, also I think I've talked both of them into, into starting Etsy shops. Lol. Because who doesn't need a good side hustle? And now I've totally forgot why. Why did I bring them up to begin with? Although it was much more important to ask that question. Let me think for a second. Okay, I got it. So I was talking to them obviously about this like whole Etsy journey because I started back in 2016 and obviously I built a multiple six figure shop in physical products in like wood signs, if you're new here. And it was incredible journey. But then since then moved into podcasting and coaching and print on demand and digital products and all of these things. And I was telling them, do you know what's so interesting? I feel like just in the past six months is when I cracked Etsy, like went from, okay, I kind of, I know how to make this work, I can help others make money. But to like to where now I could sell anything. I know exactly how to market or sell anything. Obviously it has to be in demand, but I just mean like it's not just, oh, I don't know if I can make this work. Like I know and I was telling them how right the opportunity is. And the more that I've learned about it, the more that I am so sure there's room at the table. So if you're new here, if you haven't even gotten started yet and you're like, I don't even know about Etsy. People say it's too saturated. They say something about the fees, they say this and that. No, no, no, no, no. Like I am here to tell you I just started a new shop back in October and I have well over a hundred sales, already had a bestseller. I'm selling things every day. Like new shops are making it you just have to have some strategy. And I'm thinking next week or the week after, I'm going to get you guys an episode for like how to get started and on Etsy, like get into some of those basics as much as we can, like just on an audio version. So, so sit tight and we'll get into more of that. But, but I'm excited today to talk with you guys about goal setting for this year and I am not like a super intense goal setter at all. Life tends to be a little too chaotic for me. But I do like to have a roadmap. And so I will tell you right now this will be a slightly more intense episode. Like Coach Lizzie is coming out a bit. You'll hear a little more tough love than usual. You'll hear some big numbers that might make you uncomfortable. There may be some hard pills to swallow about the truth. So if you prefer Sweet Lizzie the Teddy Bear, you might want to just skip this one and come back next week. I'm still going to be very kind. I'm just going to be very honest, but I don't mind a bit if that's not your vibe. I totally get it. Like scroll on, there's plenty more and we'll talk next week. But if you are ready to hear kind of what it really takes, really talking about goal setting, talking about the, the numbers of what you need to do, like depending on what, what your income goal is, then this is the perfect episode for you. And we're, we're going to talk through it. We're going to, we're going to talk some numbers. So I found that if I approach the year for my Etsy shops with all loosey goosey like, kind of like, let's just see what happens. I'm excited because I can be a little golden retriever like that and that feels good sometimes. But I've realized I, even though I'm a very hard worker, I don't accomplish nearly as much as when I approach the year with at least a roadmap of a plan. So obviously life happens. The plan doesn't, doesn't really ever go perf the way exactly that I set it out to be, but I get a heck of a lot closer. So as we head here into full, into 2025, you need to sit down and write down some goals, some notes about what you want your Etsy shop to do for you. And I think, you know, if you've been running it for a while, is it working for you? Are you, are you selling the right product that's a good fit for you. Does there seem to be good demand? You've kind of found your groove or are you, are you needing to test something different? You and I, we was running my sign shop and I was getting ready to get pregnant with child number two. I knew that the grind of that just, they were heavy, heavy wood signs. I was, you know, using stains and paints and things that wouldn't have been very comfort, very safe for pregnancy. And then we were kind of at a crossroads of scaling that business. It was bringing in great income, but in order to get to the next level and then cut back on the hours that we were working, which was a ton, we were going to have to invest a lot of money. Like we were basically going to have to go from hand painting these signs to buying like a $60,000 machine. And I, or at least, at least like a, like a 15 to $20,000 investment. And at the time, it just did not make sense. I was still going to have to be lugging around heavy signs to, to wrap them and ship them and all of that. It wasn't a good fit. And it wasn't that Etsy didn't work anymore. It's that for my life, I needed to make a pivot and move towards something that didn't require physical labor. So playing with print on demand and then where I ended up and really love is digital products. So do you need to make a switch in what you're selling? Maybe the marketplace feels great. The concept, you know, it's there. It's just that you're not, you haven't found the right spot yet. And I'm going to talk about this more later, but I think people just give up way too soon like you if it doesn't happen, if we, if we don't hit those big flashy goals that we hear about on Instagram or YouTube within like a 30 to 90 day period, we're like, this just doesn't work. And that's. It couldn't be farther from the truth. You haven't done the work yet. You have to put in the reps. So more, more to that, more on that soon. But the really big thing that I want us to start with is like, like I said, I don't do a ton, ton, ton of goals, but you need to decide how much you want to earn. And, and sometimes that can trigger us like a. We're like, well, I don't want to be like, I don't really know what I can accomplish or I don't really like feel comfortable or maybe I should shoot kind of low. Or you could be like me and I tend to shoot way too high. I tend to be like, I tend to be the person who's like, I want to make $100,000 in the next six months or whatever. And when you're, is that possible for an established Etsy shop? A million percent. You could do that in the next quarter if you really knew what you were doing. But if you're newer or you haven't even made your first like thousand, five thousand, ten thousand a month, then we need to start, we need, we do need to be reasonable. And so, but I do think actually starting with the number, even if it's too high or too low, is a really good starting point because it's going to gauge the actions you need to take and that might help you calibrate. Like once you hear what you've got to do to actually accomplish that number, you might be like, oh, I can do more than that. We can actually push this bar higher. Or you're going to rein yourself in like yours truly does on a regular basis. Like, oh wait, I have a homeschool child, a 2 year old and other businesses and a farm. Maybe that's a little too aggressive like for right now. So the great thing about Etsy is it's like any sales, it's a numbers game. Don't get turned off by sales. Like even if you ever like in college I worked retail at Old Navy for years. I loved it. But we had a daily sales goal, right? They were like, okay, we need to, we need to make like, you know, $20,000 today. Our goal is to have five Old Navy credit cards opened up by like, you know, customers. We want to have, you know, like at the front end. Oh, you want to get a couple add ons. We want X number of products per sale. If you work in a restaurant, it's the same thing. There's always goals, right? They, they're like, they're, they're like, you know, push desserts, push desserts or whatever it is, it's just simply business. So it's a numbers game. And, and if you know how much that you want to earn from your Etsy shop, you can reverse engineer that to know the actions you need to take each day or week to accomplish it. And then those actually become your goal. You kind of, you keep the number there but you focus on the basically. And by actions, I mean creating new products and adding new listings and also. What's the word? I'm thinking of like basically building up your skills, right? Like strengthening your, your tool. Tool belt of, of Etsy skills. So I'm going to talk through some numbers. We're going to reverse engineer your goals and you're going to take your number of how much you want to make per month. And of course this can change throughout the year. This would just be maybe like Q1, how much that you want to make a month from your shop. And we are going to look at what we need to do to get there. So these are just hypotheticals. There's lots of ways to get there and you can kind of play with it. But I want to. I am not naturally good at math, so when I hear these scenarios, they open up a world of possibility. And I've noticed with my coaching clients it's the same when we get really into these. So let's start with the first example. So let's say you make, you sell a handmade product and right now it's new and you want to make $500 per month. That's the first goal. Well, in order to make $500 per month, you need, pardon me, to make an average of $16 per day or $125 per week. So let's say when you sell your handmade product, you net about $10 per product. Usually with handmade you can do a lot better than that. But I don't know, you know, it could be anything from jewelry to furniture. So the margin is going to be totally all over the map. We're just going to keep it easy math and say you net $10 per product and then adjust that math for whatever your profit is. So you would need to sell 50 items per month to make $10 from the item net, like after fees, after your expenses to get to 500amonth. So physical products are actually much easier on Etsy because the copycats don't happen as often. A lot of people don't want to deal with a physical product. Shoppers, there's more demand. Like shoppers are much more excited about a unique physical product than a print on demand usually or especially digital products. So not to say those things aren't great. Like I've told you, I've dedicated my entire business to those now. But physical is easier. And that's why actually this month Robbie and I are opening my old shop back up to sell physical products again because she's going to run it and I can just do the marketing. I'm a big fan of physical because there's high demand. So if you get 100 to 200 high quality products listed in your physical product shop that are in high demand, low competition. You should easily be able to hit your goal of $500 per month or even exceed it. We're all going to have different paths. Okay, so some sellers, some people really come at me when I say that many listings, some sellers will accomplish it with fewer listings. Like you might get there with just 20 because they are in such high demand and they are. Or you're able to make a higher profit from each one. Or there's just, you found a micro niche with very little competition. Or you're just good, you know, you, you, you know E. Comm. But I'd rather give you a high goal of listings to shoot for, to get up and have you be pleasantly surprised. In my shop, when I was making anywhere, it would depend on the time of year, right? Like 6,000 to 13,000amonth. I had almost 200 listings of signs. So like, I'm giving you an aggressive number. With the thousands of students I've worked with, it can take 100 plus listings because in the beginning you're just not that good yet. Your product photos aren't that great. Your product may not be that compelling. You may not really be in a space that has, you know, demand. You may be trying to sell something that's too saturated. You have to get, you have to hone your skills and get better. And the more items you create and the more listings that you create, the better you will get. And then you will see, you'll start to see what works and it'll get, it'll get easier. You won't feel like you're on such a wide path. So as an another, another option, let's talk, let's say if you're in the print on demand space or digital product space and you want to make $5,000 per month, you need to make an average of $167 a day or 12, 12, 50 per week. $1,250 per week. There are several ways to do that. Having, having bestseller, something that goes really viral or whatever, it's great, it's really fun to have a runaway hit that makes you a ton of money, but it only lasts a while and then you're scrambling to make up the difference. So also I will say, like, I think I'm gonna talk about this here in a little bit, but I had a best when I was doing Print on Demand. I got a bestseller pretty quickly and it was copied so fast and I still stayed the Bestseller. I still got more traffic than them because I was first and because I had done a really good design. But it's much easier in those spaces to have the copycats than in the physical products. So you don't want to bank on the best. The second you got a bestseller, you kind of get sniffed out. Obviously. I'm not saying don't have them, I have them in my shops now. But what I suggest really that you do, and this is what I see students have the most success with, is to diversify. By having lots of products that each make you a little bit, you fly under the radar, you have more income stability because something's not coming and going. You're not as visible to the other Etsy sellers. And actually, coincidentally, this is also how I built and sustained my sign shop. Did I have bestseller sometimes in the signs? Yes, I did. But it was more that I had those 200 listings and all random stuff just sold at different time times. And so I had a lot of listings, each contributing a little bit, and it made my income much more stable. So the approach that I usually recommend to people that I coach in these in print on demand and digital products would be like, your goal is to get an average of a hundred listings, making you $50 each per month. So you've got to have a lot more listings than that, but 100 of them that are each making you 50 each per month, knowing that listings are hit and miss. Even for me, you know, I usually get about 50%. For me that will actually sell some. For me, that's very high. You need to make it your goal to get 1,000 to 2,000 high quality listings up. So a 10% success rate is pretty fair. Like I can tell you that if you actually work toward that, you understand demand, you understand trends, you're working, you know, you're, you're leveling up your designs, you're consistently getting listings up, and you work towards a 1000 to then 2000 listings, you might actually hit $5000 a month sooner or end up bringing in more. Um, if you listen to that episode recently, let me see, what number was that? Hold on. Okay, I was thinking of episode 159 with Eden. So she opened her, her. She sells Tumblr apps and PNGs just like me. She opened her Etsy shop in January of 2024. So this could be you right now. She had 44,000 sales, 44,000 sales as a new shop owner by October. In 10 months, she was making a full time income. By summer, I think she was bringing in more than 5,000amonth. So I'm giving you, like, I'm helping you to overshoot, which is ideal. So the key is get lots of listings working for you a little bit and keep adding them consistently, because then too, like, you're. You're not gonna be able to sleep on it after that. You might get some breathing room, but, like, then you only. It can only grow from there. So. So to be making approximately $5,000 a month by June, and, you know, this is assuming you're making between three and five. Three and $5 per sale. Okay. So if you get a thousand listings up between now And June, that's 166 per month or 42 a week or five listings per day. This is very aggressive. I will also mention, though, Bailey. When was Bailey on the podcast? She's incredible. That was episode 155. The crazy potential of AI Tumblr apps and PNGs on Etsy. So she was. She was. She's a boss. She was listing 15 to 20 per day. That's not doable for most of us. I am lucky to get up five in a day, but I'm still learning. I'm also still kind of slow because I haven't been doing it for very long. Right. Just a couple of months. So keep in mind, you don't actually need a thousand different products, just a thousand different listings. Okay. That's kind of a trick that people forget. I always create at least two to three listings per product. And on each listing, I test a different thumbnail for my first picture just to see which one converts better. And. Or I test some different SEO if there are lots of good keywords. Or I could kind of attract a different micro niche, like with. With a bit of different words. A lot of times a product could go for more than one type of person. So here's the deal. If this feels like way too much, don't shut down on me. Don't give up. First of all, like, you might be a prodigy and be able to hit $5,000 per month with just 200 listings in print, on demand, or digital products. But I give you these bigger numbers. It's like some people do. Some people think I'm. I. You know, like Beowulf biz. Brittany Lewis would be like, well, she'd be. She'd be ready to fight me right now. I love her so much. She's such a baller. But she'd just be like, that's not the right approach. And I'm not saying throw up A bunch of crud. I'm saying with the thousands of students that I've worked with, it takes that many listings, it takes that long to get good enough to then have the diversification of listings paying you. So I give you these numbers because most of the time, most of the time, not all the time. Most of the time it takes 2000 plus listings in the print on demand and digital space to make and sustain a full time income of $5,000 a month or more. And most of my friends who are the YouTubers in this space, the full time business owners in this space, that's they've got a couple thousand listings up. I think Bailey's got 4,000 and she like her shop has just been such an inspiration to a lot of people. So what else do I want to say about that? No, let me, let me just think. So I want you to just understand how important the consistency is, how important it is to keep adding the listings, how important it is to keep honing. And there's nothing that says, there's no rule that says that you have to be this aggressive with it. But if you come to me and you say I need to replace my full time income, I need 5,000amonth, 10,000amonth, that's fine, let's reverse engineer it. But assume, assume until, you know, until you've been running for three to six months and you know, assume 10% of your listings are going to sell, could be way better than that. Like I said, actually in physical products it's more like 50%. I'm talking digital and print on demand. And if you get a hundred listings up and nothing is selling, we have a whole different you. You need to work on your skills. Either your SEO isn't working and you're not even getting seen, or your listing isn't compelling enough, we have other things that we need to learn. Um, but for the vast majority of people, they just simply haven't given it long enough. They haven't put up enough listings. They're not, they're not putting in the reps. So the next part of goal setting for me is then deciding where do I need to sharpen my skills to accomplish my goals even faster or build my expertise. For me right now, that's not so much on Etsy. Although I do feel like I'm still sharpening my design skills big time. Getting better at design AI has helped that a ton. I am working on figuring out, prompting, like I'm kind of actually kind of wanted to float this idea. I am probably going to do another AI workshop here in a couple months. And do you know what is like such a huge opportunity is coloring pages. And a lot of times the coloring pages created with AI are terrible if you don't prompt it right. So I'm kind of like in the process of cracking that code and I think it might be a really nice like fourth workshop for the, for the AI because there are just so many different ways that you can use AI to sell totally different stuff all over Etsy. Coloring pages are just massive right now. So I guess like drop me a DM or you know what? No, I'm gonna put, I'll put a questionnaire link. There's gonna be too many links today, but that's fine. In the, in the show notes, fill it out. Give me your, your name and your email and your questions if you're interested in. What is it called? Coloring pages. And then I'll make sure and just shoot. You're not gonna get added to my email list, but I will shoot you an email or two to let you know. If I plan that workshop, I want to just gauge interest first. Plan that workshop and then you can know, you know what is. You'll also you. I always give the best discount code to those people too, just FYI because they, they are the ones who could compelled me to do the work. Okay. But I'm, I digress. So, so yeah, this year those are the things I'm working on with Etsy. I am working on Facebook, learning Facebook and Instagram ads to be able to multiply like the people that I reach. The podcast is amazing. There's lots of new folks all of the time, but I want to get more awareness around my, my podcast brand. Right. And so those, that's what I'm working on. So for you, when it comes to Etsy, there's several different areas to master, especially if you are new. So one, how does Etsy work? What makes products get seen? How do you help customers find you? What is the algorithm and how does it work? How can you leverage it to your advantage? 2. Establishing demand. So before you even start, this is such a rookie mistake. I see all the time you have to make sure that what you want to sell is something that people are already buying on Etsy. You will be surprised how often it isn't or that it's so saturated you're not going to be able to compete as a brand new shop. Etsy isn't saturated, but certain macro niches are saturated. Which is why I always talk about finding the micro niches the opportunities that are untapped yet that you could leverage to get to get a leg up on Etsy. Number three, identifying trends. You need to learn how to see what the what cultural and design trends, which ones are in high demand, how they're impacting the marketplace and then finding ways to incorporate them into your personal products no matter what you sell. Especially not just in going after one trend, but trend combining, pulling them together cohesively so shoppers feel so connected with your item they have to have it. Like add to cart is not even an option. That's something more along the lines what like Brittany Lewis teaches. So number four, finding opportunities inside the demand. So knowing that you could what I was gonna say knowing what you could sell that is in in demand. There's demand for it, but lower competition. So like I like to call these micro niches pockets within bigger niches that people are searching for that aren't saturated with other sellers. There's millions of them. You just have to know how to find them. I always give the example like the, the massive niche would be moms. Like there are so many mom shirts on Etsy but you could get really, really like specific by being like maybe like triplet mom or a certain dog breed mom. And now you're going from the big mom niche to the micro niche. I don't even know what number we're on. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Number five. I didn't number them, they're just dashed. Crafting an excellent, compelling product. Whether it's learning great design for print on demand or digital products, adding a art to your tool belt, learning how to leverage that, streamlining your physical products production so you can do it faster, you can do it cheaper, you can do it better. Or perhaps mastering a new tool to help you create a better product. Like maybe it's learning kittl this year to be able to leverage like some more of the things that they bring to the table that that canva just doesn't. Or maybe it's learning how to use like I've been learning Photoshop which always felt so above my head, but it's actually been incredible and YouTube's a great resource. Other tools that can help you do things that you know that the average seller can't do. What did I say I was on? I think this is 6 SEO which is search engine optimization. It just means the correct words using the correct words on your listing that match what your perfect customer is going to type into the search bar. If they're looking for your product, the next one Is product positioning, your photos, pricing and description. They have to catch the shopper's attention and convert the sale by giving them the answers to all of their questions. And then last, we have social proof, which comes with time and making sales. It's not so much something you can learn, it's something that comes as a result of learning and mastering the other things. But you can give great customer service and that will lead to great reviews, which will lead to more sales, which will build trust with shoppers and make future sales easier to get. So more sales leads also to Etsy's badges like the star seller badge, which also comes from great service. The best seller badges on products popular now badges. These also help to build trust and kind of create a social proof on the platform. So that's a pretty, pretty solid list of the things that you have to master. So if you're new, there you go. Those are the things you've got to learn. We're all starting at a different place. You may not be just starting at the beginning. You may have been doing this for a few months and you've kind of got the platform. You're doing well, but you're, you're getting a lot of views, but you're not getting the sales. The conversion piece isn't happening yet. You've got to work on your listings. You might have really, really beautiful products, but you're not getting views. Your SEO isn't there yet. So where are your knowledge gaps? Where can you find information that will help you get results faster? How could you learn from someone who has gone ahead of you to save yourself time? Right now, most of us, hopefully, you either have a little time to spare, you got extra time, or you have a little money to spare and you'll have to choo choose one of those in order to sharpen your skills in these areas that'll help you accomplish your goals faster. If you've got the time, you can binge this podcast and find a ton of stuff and also find a ton of stuff on YouTube, not just for me, but from other people. Like, I've heard so many people say that listening to the podcast, if you kind of go back and binge it, you are going to pick up so many nuggets along the way. It's not necessarily all packed into one episode because there are so many stories and approaches, but there's so much you can glean. You. But you've got to have the hours right. I do not do short podcast episodes. As you know, YouTube though, you could get in and Spend it. You know, spend. It's probably going to take you 20, 30 hours, maybe more. And. And the pro is of going the freeway. You've got the time and you can just sift through the content. It's free, and lots of us share legit info to help new sellers without having to spend a dime. Like, that is what we are here for. The con is you're going to spend a lot of hours not just sifting through information, but just trying to decide which path is right for you. Because I guess what I hear a lot is it can feel really conflicting. The information feels conflicting. But here's my tip. This is like the secret, okay? If this is you, the good news is there are a ton of right ways to make Etsy work. It might feel conflicting, but the great truth is there is not just one way or one true expert. There's a ton of us. We've all taken a different path. So if you're feeling overwhelmed by the conflicting information, just pick someone who you really resonate with. If you go on YouTube and you watch a few hours, you're probably going to find someone who's your vibe. You know, they have your approach, they have a. They have a personality. You like you. You like listening to them. In your gut, they're the right match for you. My advice, just listen to them. Don't go listen to every single one of them. Do it their way because they're your person. And I. I truly don't believe you are going to be missing something massive most of the time just because someone else teaches it differently. It's going to just save you so much time and heartache. Many of y'all have heard it. I've interviewed so many successful people on the podcast, and there are a ton of ways to make this work. Um, and there's also a ton of really good experts out there. Like, seriously, there. There's. There are so many good quality people with really, really great approaches. Or you could be like I was and be super short on time. There is not the time to sift through all the experts, all the info, all the videos, all the hours. It's just you got too much on your plate. But you can invest a little money into resources that will save you time and give you the bottom line as fast as possible to help your shop be profitable. Because typically, like, one YouTube video is not going to do it. You are going to need several layers of information depending on what it is that you want to sell. So the same advice applies to this. Really find someone you resonate with and invest in their course for me every single time I've tried to learn something new right now. Okay, so I bought a course on Facebook ads. I am in Bailey's AI membership. What are other I bought Marie Forleo's Time Genius. You guys know, like just this last year, a few months ago, I was on Jenna Kutcher's podcast, the Goal Digger podcast, because I took her course, the Podcast Lab before I launched this show. And I'm kind of one of her like big success stories, right? Like, because the show has helped me make six figures and so I got to go share some of my story on there. Investing in courses. It saved me a ton of time. It's one of the reasons the podcast was as successful as it was as fast as it was. So find someone. Find someone you you resonate with, you feel good about and invest in their course. I will make a few suggestions because there are very few, but there are a few bad actors. And just because I'm not saying their name doesn't mean they are a bad actor. But these are the people that I've actually gone through their content. I know that, I know that it's very, very high quality and I trust it. So if I'm your girl, if you're just like, for sure it's Lizzie and you need something more low ticket, that's me. So I've got the six figure secrets to getting started on Etsy. It's for any seller. It will help you tremendously. Whether you're in a handmade physical product space, print on demand or digital products. It's going to teach you the, the major things of what you need to know. It's just under three hours long. So fast. I always like to say like you can take it on a Friday, launch your shop on a Saturday, make sales on a Sunday, because it's just fast and to the point and, and it's going to teach you the secrets. Everything you need to master for Etsy from the algorithm to trends to trend combining to finding opportunities of what's what to sell. That's low demand. High or high? High demand, Low competition. Yeah, demand. SEO, product positioning, social proof and more. Everything. Literally. It's going to teach you everything except for how to physically make your product since it's for any seller. I've also made it super, super affordable. Like I said, very low ticket. And you can save an extra $50 with the code. Save 50 at checkout. If you're in the print on demand or digital product space. I can also Save you time and teach you the the ongoing trends and opportunity spotting with my monthly Trends and Opportunities membership. And so every Monday you would get an email from me with the current hot Etsy trends, a list plus five different product opportunities that are in demand with low competition. Like right, right away. I include the SEO you that you need to use on your listing to to rank and get seen and I include a little video explaining each one and how like why it's so that because basically you wouldn't believe it's so great. People come on for a few months, they learn so much that they email me and they're like, lizzie, I literally find I know how to do this now. I've cracked Etsy because you've shown me this. And then they get off the membership and I'm ecstatic to cancel it for them because the whole point is to help you do it. You can actually save on the first month and just get it for $17. You're gonna use the code. What's that code? Save 20 on the on the trend member trend Trends and Opportunities membership. Use the code SAVE20. You'll get your first month for just $17. Plus you're going to get access to every single week I've done since I started back in September. So not only are you going to have Access over to 80 opportunities, most of them are still very valid. There's a few holiday that you'll have to skip, but most of them are very valid and you'll be able to immediately design for them and you'll also learn exactly how to find them for yourself going forward. You could literally spend $17 and have what you need and I love that for you. Also, if you want to learn how to create and sell AI art, you want to add that to your tool belt. This past AI workshop I did last month was fire. I do not gas myself up. I am usually extremely critical. I usually get off of those things and kind of cry. This one was so, so good. I taught the people who, well, whoever watches it, how to create and sell Tumblr apps, which are PNG files you sell on Etsy and then other PNGs with midjourney and that creates the art for you. And so students were seeing sales within 48 hours of that workshop and we covered a ton of valuable, like we just covered a ton. So I'm going to show you even how to decide what to design and sell. Like if you're just like, well, I guess I'll sell PNGs, but what do I design? I'm going to show you how to decide how to use midjourney to create the art, how to set up the digital product listing, how to write the SEO. I give you my product descriptions literally to copy and paste that I'm using. And then there was a whole bunch more. It was extremely jam packed and then for other products. So I want to suggest some of my fellow coaches in their areas of expertise because I actually get so many emails from listeners and DMs and like asking who I recommend. And so these are the ones I have vetted the most. Okay. For printable digital products like let's say you don't want to do PNGs, Tumblr apps, you want to do more like printables PDFs. You cannot go wrong with Gold City Ventures. Their course is called E Printables. They have a great free workshop that I will link for you to start with. It's excellent. I highly recommend it. I've never once gotten a complaint about it ever, ever, ever, ever. People love it. If you want to learn all about print on demand and you want to skip the hundreds of hours and tons of YouTubers, most of them are incredible by the way. But these are my most trusted coaches. So this would be more like if you are able to invest in a higher ticket course and you want to learn some design skills as well, which can be very important. I recommend either Brittany Lewis of Beowulf Biz and her top seller Secret course or Heather Studio with her Print on Demand Academy 3.0. Brittany has the top, top, top success stories in the business with a bunch of her students having like literally six figure quarters. They do insane things. She has a ton of reviews, not just like one or two blow you away. Her approach isn't for everyone. She is very no nonsense but she's going to teach you exactly what it takes to really make it in print on demand. Her approach requires you to understand your ideal customer better than they know themselves. She'll teach you how and build a mental archive of designs so that you become an expert designer creating items that literally people can't say no to. So this is, it's going to be the slower way but if you really master it and do it right, it's the way to the highest profits and her testimonials prove it. So if you this is like your thing for sure and you're going to make it work come heck or high water. She's very, very intense but that'll get you there. The other one that I love, it's also High ticket. It's the course that I personally took when I was getting started is Heather's Heather Studios Print on Demand Academy 3.0. It was an excellent course. It had a ton of information. I felt like I learned everything I needed to like. It was very like all inclusive course like everything you need. I made sales very quickly so I even had, I had a bestseller in the mom T shirt niche which is very hard to break into. And she has lots of great reviews as well. There's like she, she's also excellent. Very different teaching style. She's much more easygoing, she's very practical. She's going to teach you how to find niche opportunities through research. She's very similar to my approach. So it's much more like let's find the, let's find the low hanging fruit. Let's find the opportunities in the micro niches. Which is why I resonated so well with her. And then again if you need something low ticket like those are going to be way out of your your they do. They both have payment plans but if they're way out of your your budget, you need low ticket get six Six Figure Secrets my course and it's not going to teach you the design part how to make how to design your product but that the, the high ticket courses will but it will teach you everything else and you can master the Design part on YouTube if you need the extra help with it. So I hope these suggestions help. So I get asked all the time so I want to wrap up with this thought. There is literally only one reason why sellers don't hit their goals on Etsy and it's because they give up too soon. Like it's not cliche, it's the truth. They don't stay long enough to get good enough. They don't press in to learn what they don't know yet. They blame the algorithm or market saturation or Etsy fees. I have never, not once talked to a person who can't do this. I've talked to lots of people who won't do it, who won't put in the reps. But I've talked to illegally blind individuals making Etsy work. I've talked to special needs down syndrome individuals making Etsy work full time, disabled, chronically ill, really young, really old folks who struggle with technology, like not quite sure how to double click a mouse, folks with serious like autoimmune disabilities where they don't know if and when they will have the energy to work. Moms with full time jobs plus kids with Just, you know, no time. If you want this, you can 100% do it. I am not messing with you. But you will have to show up for yourself multiple days a week, every week, for months and for years. And you'll have to do that for a very long time with very little reward. So the difference between the ones who make it and the ones who don't is simply whether they can discipline themselves and trust themselves often enough and long enough to show up before they can see the results that they want. We logically know this in other areas. Like, we know we won't lose weight or maintain weight loss after trying the gym for just a month. Yet how many people you know after January, they're out. It takes consistency. We know that several days a week, forever to make that goal happen. We know we won't build a nest egg for retirement after trying every day for a month. It's discipline and choices every day, forever to accomplish that. So why do we think a side hustle should be making us six figures within 30 days or it doesn't work? I mean, also, like, I'm preaching to myself here too, right? I don't always show up, but I kind of just call BS on all of this. Like, when we do that, what we're really doing is not trusting ourselves. That's what we're doing. We're giving up on ourselves. We're too scared. And it's 2025, my friends like the area, the Era T Swift of beating ourselves up, thinking we can't do it. Refusing to grow and work on ourselves. Blaming others, blaming platforms. No personal responsibility, self sabotage, not believing we deserve financial freedom. We are done with that here, okay? Period. No room for that at the table. Room for you. No room for that attitude. We have never had more resources at our fingertips. More free education, more tools to streamline. We did not have free and ever be back in my day. I wish we did. That thing has cracked Etsy open for me. People willing to tell you exactly how to do it rather than gatekeep it all. We're in a very generous generation. We get to make a lot of judgments, a lot of assumptions about how awful things are. We are also in the best time of history where people are more generous in giving than ever before on a greater scale. So don't let yourself talk you out of this, okay? Stick with me. We're gonna have an incredible year. I am gonna throw at you everything I can share to help you, to encourage you, to inspire you, to keep you, to be your little Etsy personal trainer and we're going to do this together. But don't give up on yourself. I'm challenging you to trust yourself this year and let's see what we can do. And until next week, go make something awesome. I love you guys. Happy New Year. Podcast Summary: Ep 162 | 2025 Goal Setting for Your Etsy Shop
Title: How to Sell Your Stuff on Etsy
Host: Lizzie Smiley
Release Date: January 2, 2025
In Episode 162 of How to Sell Your Stuff on Etsy, host Lizzie Smiley dives deep into the art of goal setting for Etsy shop owners in 2025. Drawing from her extensive experience as a successful Etsy entrepreneur and coach, Lizzie provides actionable strategies to help listeners launch, grow, pivot, or scale their Etsy businesses effectively.
Lizzie begins by sharing a personal anecdote about her entrepreneurial journey, emphasizing the importance of a strong mindset in achieving business success. She highlights her transition from selling physical products, like handmade wood signs, to embracing digital products and print-on-demand models. This pivot not only allowed her to scale her business but also enabled her to maintain a balance between work and family life.
"If you're new here, if you haven't even gotten started yet and you're like, I don't even know about Etsy... I'm here to tell you I just started a new shop back in October and I have well over a hundred sales, already had a bestseller."
— Lizzie Smiley [05:30]
Lizzie emphasizes that goal setting is crucial for Etsy success. She contrasts her previous "loosey-goosey" approach with her current strategy-driven method, noting that having a roadmap significantly increases productivity and achievement.
"Even though I'm a very hard worker, I don't accomplish nearly as much as when I approach the year with at least a roadmap of a plan."
— Lizzie Smiley [12:45]
A core segment of the episode focuses on setting specific financial goals and reverse engineering the steps needed to achieve them. Lizzie breaks down different income targets and outlines the corresponding number of sales and listings required.
"So, if you sell your handmade product, you net about $10 per product... you would need to sell 50 items per month to make $500 a month."
— Lizzie Smiley [18:20]
"For digital and print on demand, usually, 10% of your listings sell. So, aim for 1,000 to 2,000 listings to reach $5,000 a month."
— Lizzie Smiley [25:10]
Lizzie distinguishes between physical products and digital/print-on-demand items, explaining that each category requires different strategies due to their unique market dynamics.
Physical Products: Generally enjoy higher demand and lower saturation. Success often depends on the uniqueness and quality of products.
Digital/Print on Demand: Easier to scale but more prone to copycats. Diversification and consistent listing additions are key to maintaining sales momentum.
"In physical products, you might sell something unique that doesn't get copied as often, whereas digital products require a broader and more diversified approach."
— Lizzie Smiley [22:35]
Lizzie underscores the importance of continually honing skills related to Etsy, such as:
"You need to work on your listings. You might have really beautiful products, but your SEO isn't there yet."
— Lizzie Smiley [35:50]
The episode addresses typical obstacles Etsy sellers face, such as feeling overwhelmed by the platform's saturation or struggling with inconsistent sales. Lizzie encourages perseverance, highlighting that many successful sellers attribute their success to not giving up despite initial setbacks.
"There is literally only one reason why sellers don't hit their goals on Etsy and it's because they give up too soon."
— Lizzie Smiley [45:00]
Lizzie recommends several resources to help Etsy sellers accelerate their learning and implementation:
Her Own Course: Six Figure Secrets to Getting Started on Etsy – A comprehensive, low-ticket course covering everything from the Etsy algorithm to trend spotting.
Trend Membership: Trends and Opportunities Membership – Offers weekly insights into current Etsy trends, product opportunities, and SEO strategies.
Other Expert Courses:
"Investing in courses saved me a ton of time. It's one of the reasons the podcast was as successful as it was as fast as it was."
— Lizzie Smiley [50:20]
In her concluding remarks, Lizzie reiterates that consistent effort and discipline are non-negotiable for Etsy success. She challenges listeners to commit to their goals and trust in their ability to overcome challenges through sustained effort.
"Disciplined and consistent effort every day, forever, is what distinguishes successful Etsy sellers from those who give up."
— Lizzie Smiley [58:15]
Episode 162 serves as a motivational and strategic guide for Etsy sellers aiming to set and achieve significant goals in 2025.
