Hey, my name is Lizzie Smiley and I absolutely love helping people connect with their calling and all the tools they need to kick roadblocks and excuses right out the door so they can cultivate the life they dream about. If you want to launch, grow, pivot, or scale your Etsy shop, or you've always wanted to develop the mindset and skills to run your own business, then I'm your girl. I've had that entrepreneurial spirit going strong since my very first lemonade stand. And now I'm a work at home mama with multiple online companies and a full time Etsy shop, all while being present with my kids for the everyday chaos and most important milestones. On this podcast, we'll talk about all things business, mindset, Etsy, creativity, dazzling our customers, and so much more. There's plenty of room at this table for you, so scooch on in and let's go. I'm holding nothing back. Welcome to how to sell your stuff on Etsy. I'm so glad you're here. Hey, you guys, welcome back to the podcast. This is one of my favorite types of episodes to do. So I am just over here having a dance party. I'm so excited to dive into trends with you. This is just one of those things that when, when a new seller or even a struggling seller just decides they're going to get their arms around the trends, I see results happen faster for them and bigger for them. And I don't know if you're anything like me. I used to be so intimidated. Like, here we are, y' all. I started on Etsy in 2016. Okay. Like, it's been a minute and I didn't start trying to really understand the. The tre until last year, 2024. So if you feel intimidated, don't worry. Like, I am here to be your big sister and show this to you. It does not come naturally to me. I had to learn. So it's learnable. Everything is figureoutable. And today we are going to really unpack some of the massive trends happening. Um, I just got this message on Instagram that just kind of spurred this conversation I wanted to have with you. So someone was asking me, like, hey, Lizzie, like, talk to me about Etsy ads. Are they worth it? I like, hear all these things in the, in the forums. I'm like, oh, my gosh, the Reddit forums are enough. Take, like to eat your lunch. If you, if you want to get. If you want to get really down and discouraged about Etsy or business in general, go to Reddit or the Facebook groups and you'll get eaten alive. So, like, just. No, don't. Yes. Etsy ads are so worth it. In fact, a lot of you have gotten my free download. It's called the four strategies that help me grow my Etsy shop from $25 per month to 6,000 plus per month. Okay, Those are, like, practical strategies. Thousands of you have downloaded that. So I want to, like, stimulate your memory there and remind you about that. But what it doesn't talk about, because it's a more advanced strategy, is how I then scaled from 6,000amonth to 12 to $13,000 a month. And the way that I did that was with Etsy ads. Okay? So you can do great things with just the Etsy algorithm. You don't have to use Etsy ads. In fact, if you've never sold anything yet on Etsy, if you're still trying to figure it out, I don't recommend ads until you have proof of concept. But once you do, just like me, you can literally double your sales by just turning on ads. I'm a huge fan of it. It does take some strategy, though, and that is why I'm going to mention this more than once. There's a free ads masterclass by my friend Hannah, who talks about this better than anyone I know, and she's actually, she created Profit Tree. Have you guys heard of this? It is a profit tracking tool. Wait, let me back up, let me back up. Have you ever seen Shark Tank? This is how we need to talk about this. So. And as an ADHD woman, this just kind of cracks me up because I'm, I'm wondering how their brains do it. But do you know, on Shark Tank, when someone is introducing their idea, the sharks grill them for the data in their business. And so many Etsy sellers, they don't take their business as seriously as they should. You guys are crushing it out there. You guys have serious businesses that make more than a lot of brick and mortar businesses, a lot more than agencies and things like that. You, you are crushing it. And yet we don't know our numbers. We would, we would get kicked off of Shark Tank even though we've got the better ideas because we are creative people. So Profit Tree, this tool that Hannah created, helps you understand those numbers down to the details, the nitty gritty, what we would need to know to crush it on Shark Tank. Okay? And it's a really important tool to use if you're going to do ads because it helps you make sure that your return on ad, spend, spend is there. It helps you understand the breakdown of all of the fees. A lot of you ask this Lizzie, help me understand the percentages of these fees. I don't, I don't even know how much I'm really taking away. At the end of the day I don't understand what my net is. Well, yeah, Etsy's, Etsy's tools, their stats don't help you with that at all. And that is why you need a tool like Profit Tree. And so I wanted to mention this to you a, because I want you to get that free ads masterclass. There's going to be a link down below where you can grab that and Hannah's going to break down for you how to use ads, when to use ads, how to price them, all of it. She goes into it because it's a very visual thing. I want you to see it on Etsy, I want you to see it broken down visually. So grab that, that Masterclass. But I also want to mention to you about Profit Tree because I was just talking to Hannah the other day and this is important for me to mention to you. They're rolling out a new Etsy research tool that's going to help you discover in demand products. So you're going to be able to look and see. This is in addition to what it already does with the profit tracking and the ads tool. There's like very meaty tool and you only pay $67 once. So yeah, like listen to me for a second because a lot of you are unhappy with all the memberships that you're having to pay for month after month. Profit tree is 67 once and now it's going to give you the ad manager, it's going to give you the, the profit tracking so you can, you can go on Shark Tank. It's going to give you now competitor, competitor listing research so you're going to be able to look and see how competitor listings are performing and this is how you're going to get to make your decisions on what to create next. You want to make based decision before you create your next listing. And so a lot of the other tools you can go in and look at them but it's not necessarily fresh data. It's oftentimes. In fact I was just talking with, with someone from one of the other tools and their data is a month behind and Hannah's like, we're the only one that can tell you real time what the demand is like it's actually going to have in the tool. It's going to tell you how Many have sold in the past 24 hours. How many shopping carts, it said, and I've not seen this on any other tool. So because a lot of you were like, hey, Lizzie, if I was going to cut down on my monthly, my monthly memberships, you know, what would you recommend? Well, now I. You grab profit tree for $67 flat. That's it. There's no membership fee and you're going to get all of these tools that you need in one place. It's kind of insane. I don't know if this deal is going to go past the summer or if it's summer special, because honestly, it's completely. They could be charging a lot more and it would be worth it for a membership fee. So check it out. The best place to start, if you're. If that was a lot for you, the best place to start, no matter where you're at with your Etsy shop, is to get the free ads Masterclass Etsy Ads. Because if you, if it's free, it requires nothing from you. And you're going to be able to see this in more detail and then Hannah will be able to take you on a journey to, to see any other information that you need. But Profit Tree is an amazing tool. These new. And there's another, there's another new part of it rolling out in another month. So we'll be talking about that as soon as I've got more information on it. So. Etsy ads are so great, I'm telling you, doubled me 6,000 to 1212 to 13,000. We just need the tools to help us see the data. You've got to know what your numbers are to make sure you're profitable. So that's a great place to start. The next thing I wanted to mention to you is that we're about to go into detail about a lot of the trends happening and I'm going to talk you through it to the best of my ability. I'm going to tell you what is happening and what you can do with it. But trends are very visual, right? Can you imagine? Can, can you imagine if I was going to describe to you, like, let's say you were blind and I had to describe leopard print to you. How on earth could I do that without showing you what it looks like? Right? So I'm gonna talk through the what as much as I can here on this podcast. But if you wanna understand the how of trends, how to apply them, what they look like, what you can do to actually harness them, to be putting them in your listings, you're gonna wanna jump into my trendspotting membership. I have released incredible summer bonuses June 30th. So if you get in quick, you'll get this one. You've gotta be in by June 30th. You're gonna get a font pairing guide. One of the biggest mistakes I see in are poor font pairing. The weight of the fonts are different. They don't look good together. I'm going to give you a list of the best ones to put together. July 7th is going to be double opportunities. So every single week in the trendspotting, I give you five listings you can create right now. Print on demand, a combination of print on demand digital products. You get five a week, but on July 7th, you're going to get 10 for that week instead of five. Double. Double opportunities. Double things you can create. They're always high demand, low competition. I pick things that are hot for you right now. July 14th, you're going to get a bonus video that's a Back to school trendspotting because we right now we need to be starting to work on Back to School and fall immediately. We're there. I can't believe it because I'm literally just. My toes just touched. Summer. But we're going to be doing back to school trend spotting because it's extremely important and extremely lucrative. July 21st, the bonus is going to be five free design templates. A design template is a template in Canva that you can plug your own content into. So I set up the design for you based on something that's trending, something that's hot, something that's customizable. And then you can go in and put your own content in and make it beautiful. So it really, really simplifies the design process for you and ensures that you've got something that's going to be, you know, higher converting because the fonts, the elements and everything are correctly proportioned, correctly weighted on point, the right colors, all that. July 28th. This one I'm really excited about is going to be design coaching. So you're going to be able to submit a listing to me or a design to me through a Canva template, however you want to do it. And I'm going to do a video giving you feedback. I'm going to talk through as many designs as I get and talk through what's working, what's not working, what I would change, you know, what would make it stronger. Because this is one of the number one issues for my students, typically when they're coming to me brand new is they just need to strengthen design skills. It's one of the most critical pieces of the puzzle. So I'm going to give you design coaching so you can join for your first month in trendspotting for just $17 and you get access to the entire history of everything. I mean, we do a weekly trend spotting email and training video. You get five opportunities a week of things listings you can create right away. There is a bank of over 200 opportunities waiting for you since from back to September. And they're not all seasonal. Many of them are evergreen. But hello, we're coming right back to fall. So it's all about to be relevant again. I include the SEO for every single listing so that you don't have to do the guesswork and you really only do. You kind of get trained on how to find trends in this membership. You get trained on how to do good SEO as well because of the way that I show you the opportunities. So we're about to get into the what on trends. If you want to learn the how, if you want to see visually. If you want me to train you on how to do this, join right now. Use the code KEEP20 to get in for just $17 your first month. It's typically $37 a month. Also, you can save 40% with an annual membership just by the year. Bam, wham, bam, you're done. You get 40% off. So you're only spending $22 a month instead of $37 a month. So that's a great deal as well. So look for those links below. But that's your next step if you want to really start harnessing the trends. The biggest compliment I get is when people come back to me and say that I've been the trendspotting for a few months. You have literally trained me how to do this. I love it. I don't need it anymore because you have helped me so much and I'm just like amazing. That is the best feedback I could possibly get because if I'm not equipping you, I don't want to be the therapist who you're still with in five years. Like I should be making, I should be helping you level up. So let's get in to trends. We're going to do a combination of what I am seeing and how I'm recommending you apply them with the details. And I'm also going to go into a trend guide that Etsy came out with because they had some really, really good descriptors of some things that are happening right now. What's so interesting to me, and I'm sure I'll probably say this again because it's amazing. A lot of the trends intersect. So as you're listening to everything I'm going to talk through, I want you to pay attention to the points at which there's some crossover and intersection, because what that does is it opens the door for trend combining, which is really the sweet spot. Okay, so it's great to use trends, and when they're brand new, you can use them by themselves and they can do great. But where people really, really start to see growth and innovation in their shops and listings that other shops can't compete with is when they trend combine. It's the intersection of more than one trend together for a new cohesive concept that creates high emotional connection to the shopper. So someone sees it and they are so. They feel so seen and understood by that listing. It's like it was made for them. It's so particular to what they love, the aesthetic that they love that they have to add it to cart. There's just no more. No one's looking at the price. No one's looking at the competition to see who's got a better. No, like, it just hits just right. And that's the sweet spot. So let's talk through events that are coming up that you need to start paying attention to. I will tell you right now, it is too late to design for the fourth of July. You really, with trends and with holidays, you really want to be designing a few months in advance. You can sometimes get away with getting up to a couple weeks out, especially if you see something that's, like, really hot. Sometimes a trend will come on the scene last minute and then, you know, I've had some success rolling things out three to four weeks in advance, but really, you want to be a few months out, which is why it's sad, because it's summer and we're in our flip flops. But we need to be designing for back to school and fall. So here's a fun thing, though. So I think it was last year, there was this kind of little special holiday that came out called Summerween, and it's basically like Halloween elements with a summer twist. And people went crazy for it. So that appears to be a thing again this summer. If you want to do some summer designs, we're going to talk through more summer trends because they are potent this year. They're really fun and they're really, really specific. But Summerween could be great. So what you're Doing is taking the beloved Halloween elements, but you're making them with. You're giving them a summer, a summer vibe. And that kind of content can do really well. I think Summerween is, it's like so fun. I'm gonna link an article from Good Morning America talking about it a little more. So you can study it a bit if you want to. But that would be something interesting for summer post, you know, fourth of July. So then of course the next thing is going to be back to school thinking about both teachers and students and back to school activities and administrative staff. So a lot of times we hit the teachers really hard and we don't necessarily think about the others. So it's, this is a great time to be doing that. I was looking at a shop with some really, really high performing, high performing bestsellers the other day and as I was studying what they've been putting out, I was studying some of their summer things because I was compiling information for this, this podcast. But what was interesting to me was I noted that had like 20 new fall listings up and it was a good reminder to me, like, okay, make sure that because I was still designing some summer things and it was a good reminder to me to get back to the fall. So back to school is great. And then it is also time to be working on fall and Halloween specific for fall, we're seeing a lot of vintage patterns continue, which, you know, this is not new. We've been talking about it for months and months now. Many of you probably heard me refer to Grand Millennial, which, you know, it's like a grandparent with a millennial. We're just all old souls, us millennials. Maybe some of us are not, but some of us are old souls. But it's this marriage of something vintage and a little retro that's updated with a new style. So we're seeing that in fashion, we're seeing that in decor. So for fall, I was see when I was doing my research, I was seeing a lot of vintage patterns. Like think vintage fabrics with monochromatic patterns with kind of antiquey looking patterns. And they were in muted fall colors. So you could think if you wanted to look up Jacquard. The Jacquard style is very much, it's kind of a floral, vintage Y type of a pattern. And that would give you some insight. Seeing a lot of olive green, dark blue, which is like the color right now, and mustard yellow in the fall. Another theme for fall, I'm not sure how it would necessarily apply to your Etsy shop But interesting to mention either way is lacquer. So a lot of glossy finished wood. Depending on what you're selling, that might matter. But I think it's also just interesting to think about that. Like that's kind of a heavier look. That's a very antiquey kind of a look. Oh, here I have more about Jacquard style. It refers to a type of fabric characterized by intricate woven in patterns created on a special loom. So it's the type of. It's the way the fabric comes together. It almost looks like a. If you've ever seen a cross stitch, but the, the stitches aren't elevated on the material. It would just be like it's woven all together. So a t. If you can envision a tapestry that would be a little more Jacquard style. You know what was interesting as well is for fall, I was seeing that pumpkins were. They're being more painted with like really beautiful patterns. A lot of color, kind of these same even vintage, vintage patterns, but like in really bright colors instead of carving. I'll be curious to see if, you know, we're. I'll be curious to see if that actually holds. If people are really not carving as much. They're painting also. Fall farmhouse is huge. Again, I'm amazed. Honestly, this girl, I'm over here thinking, like when I was in the farmhouse business for my signs, I was like, this is on its way out, but in some places it's holding on strong. And I think fall is one of those places. Like, who doesn't love a charming fall farmhouse? So barns, trucks, rustic wood, highland cows. We're seeing it everywhere. Monochromatic vintage patterns. So not just the floral, the colorful floral, but one color. Monochromatic means one color. So you've got your base color and then the design is in one color. We see that a lot in that dark indigo blue that's been so. In kind of navy. Navy indigo. They. People use it different colors. Again in the olive green, in a mustard or a tan. You'll see it sometimes in like a burgundy red. Let me think if there's any other. No, that really. Those are like the main ones. Did I say olive green? I think so. Those are going to be the main ones for fall. Embroidery is still massive scenic throw pillows with woven vintage patterns. So again with the Jacquard style on the, on throw pillows. They're kind of, you know, kind of old timey scenes. Vintage is just everywhere. I'm actually going to talk a little bit in a few minutes about Christmas Trends, because I think that'll be helpful for those of you who are really planning ahead. It's a great thing to do. And I did some Christmas research a month or two ago. I was in a boutique talking. They had gone to one of those, you know, fairs where all of the sellers are selling all of their, all of their stock for Christmas for the stores to stock up on. And so I got to pick their brains and find out what's happening. So, okay, so that's what's coming up events wise for summer trends. So a really big one this year is the fisherman aesthetic. And so you're thinking like, think coastal, like coastal elements. But this was kind of, this kind of came out of that whole. The sardine craze, which we're going to talk about that more in a little bit because I've been talking about it for a while, but I started seeing in wall art and literally in any home decor, kind of an application and T shirts. Sardines. Sardines have just been massively in. So this kind of came out of that. Now we're just seeing other fishermen, nautical coastal type of elements, but specifically in an orange, red and a dark blue color palette. It's very. You'd have to see it to know what I'm talking about. If you go to my Instagram, I did an Etsy Trends carousel post earlier in the week and I'll. I show some images of what the fisherman aesthetic looks like. So you've probably seen that orange red on women everywhere. We're all wearing it. It's a great color for summer. That's that, that red color and then combined with the dark blue. Also this summer we're seeing a lot of fruit. Strawberries, cherries, tomatoes, lemons. Every year it seems like the fruit, something about fruit makes us. We associate with summer. Strawberries have really been on the rise. That's the big one. Cherries have been. I've been seeing the cherries. You'll see like a little bow tied at the top of the cherry stems. But the strawberries have been the main player. I have also seen some blueberries. I just, it's like, it's like strawberry obsession, though. So just interesting thought. There's Italian vibes. I don't know if you've seen this. I see a lot of monochromatic kind of like. How do you call it? Like a cityscape. So it looks like the outline of maybe the, of a city, like maybe on the side of a cliff, an Italian country, you know, Italian seaside cliff. And you'll see it usually in, like, a monochromatic color palette, but very, very detailed. You'll also. Sometimes you'll see it, like, on, like, a white shirt with a dark blue line. It's almost like line art. Or I even have a shirt that's that orange red color, and it's in. In the white. But I'm also seeing a lot of Italian. Italian vibes in, like, lemons are associated with that a lot. So you'll see the design on the shirt. I'm using shirts as an example because it's one of the first places the trends show up. But this would apply to anything. Whether you're doing signs or jewelry or wall art, or even if you're in, like, crochet and you're doing patterns and things like this, this all applies. Or so that dark blue, dark navy blue is the main color. And then of the design. And then with lemons included, I've seen a lot of that. So Italian vibes, of course, just general coastal aesthetic. Lots of nautical blues, muted neutral colors, elevated resort vibes. I've been seeing this a ton. We're gonna talk about that more. Etsy's got some really good information on that that I thought was really helpful. Of course, the 90s retro concepts are still huge. Like, neon colors are the biggest way I'm seeing it applied for summer. We're just seeing neon everywhere. And then 90s elements, like a lightning bolt or those little mystical stars or checkers are the big ones in addition to the neon. Those are the ones I'm seeing the most often. Sometimes you'll see a little disco ball. Sometimes again, you'll see the cherries. And sometimes instead of a cherry, you'll see a disco ball. So these are very 90s elements. And then the other one for summer has been sea creatures. They are everywhere, typically in a monochromatic type of a palette. So that dark blue and those elements are just. They've just been blowing up this summer. So let's talk a bit about some evergreen trends, things that are going to be relevant year round. They're not specific to a season, they're not specific to a holiday. They're things that you could use by themselves or trend combine with other things. So a lot of times with the evergreen trends, like, you can combine them with an occupation, you can combine them with a holiday, you can combine them with a hobby. You can combine them with something else that people are, like, really into. And when you take the trend and combine it with that thing, that's when that emotional connection is really high. So one of the biggest ones that we've been seeing for quite a while now is the Coquette trend. So if that's a new word to you, it refers to for the trend, it refers to bows. So you'll see bows everywhere. And a lot of times now we're not seeing things sell that are just bows anymore. It's always in a trend combined scenario. So a stack of books with a bow, Santa with a bow, 90s elements with some bows, Halloween characters with bows. So that's how we're seeing it. Trend combined. I had somebody email me a while back and they were a super fan of the podcast and they wanted to. They wanted to. This was after one of the earlier trend reports that I did. I want to say this was like late fall and she said she'd had her shop since 2012 and it'd been a nice side hustle provided steady supplemental income over the years. I kept hearing you talk about trend combining, specifically the Coquette trend that you mentioned in multiple episodes. To be honest, I had to look up the word when I first heard it. But I decided to give it a go and added a Coquette bow to one of our personalized designs. We always see a sales spike in Q4, but I never experienced anything like this in my 12 years on Etsy. I. I launched the product on November 15th and it quickly became a best seller, bringing in over $9,000 in just one month. And they included a screenshot. This is over also on my Instagram, if you want to actually see it. I was absolutely blown away that one little product could generate that type of income almost overnight. Thank you for your positive energy and for sharing so much relevant and actionable advice to your listeners. You have such a gift for inspiring and empowering others. Oh, I don't need to talk about that. Thank you for being so sweet. I won't say the name for privacy, but the point is, is that someone listened to me and Trend combined coquette and made $9,000 in one month over it. So this is the kind of thing when you start incorporating trends and you start letting me teach you about this. This is the kind of thing that happens because the trends are where some of that faster cash is. And I'm never the one to be like, Etsy is get rich quick. Actually, you. You wouldn't believe this because can you imagine someone in my situation could really take advantage or leverage someone who's in a desperate financial situation and just promise them the sun, moon and stars? I get DMS almost daily of People in really desperate situations and just like, tell me what to do, I'll do whatever you say. And I sit, I tell them, you need to like, drive for Uber, you need to go do food deliveries, you need to babysit, you need to do. You need to get a second job. You need to do something that is going to actually give you some kind of stable, reliable income. Because Etsy is going to take time, it's going to take effort, it's going to take some money, and it's going to take capacity. So I'm not going to say get rich quick. Like, that's just not my approach at all. But when I see people make the great money, it's the. It's the trends. The next evergreen one that has just been massive and continues to grow is the 90s. So again, we'd mentioned this earlier, lightning bolts, checkered patterns, celestial stars, smiley faces are part of this. But don't use them, they're trademarked. The smiley company not related to me will sue you. So even though they're part of the trend, stay away from that. Unless you want to pay for a really expensive license, which I don't even know if they offer. Daisies are a big one. Groovy fonts, neon colors, retro elements, think boomboxes, things like that leopard print. Again, 90s, like the coquette. We're seeing it trend combined more than like. So are we sometimes seeing a 90s thing by a concept? By itself? Yes, absolutely. Especially like the wrapper T style things or things that are more personalized. But a lot of times you'll more see it trend combined. So for example, you'll see like a kindergarten teacher T shirt, right? And it'll say kinder. I don't know, something cute, right? Kinder lover or whatever. But It'll have those 90s elements in it. It'll be like a doodle style font, which, by the way, I have it on here somewhere. But that's another trend in and of itself. Doodle font. But it'll also have a lightning bolt in there and it'll have some. It'll have kind of a groovy font style and it'll have some celestial stars and some neon colors and some checkers. So you're seeing it, you're seeing them combined, the teacher niche or the occupation with the 90s elements. Another big one, which is such a Nod to the 90s as well, is collegiate or varsity style fonts. If you don't know where to find those or you'd like to know more about that, I actually have a design templates. It's only $27. And you literally get a link to my Canva design templates. There's over 60. There's so much stuff in there. I'm not going to try to rattle it off because I'm pulling this out of my, you know where. But tons of templates in there, tons of F that you can put together a bunch of just resources to help you design better. And I have my favorite collegiate or varsity style fonts that are from Canva in there. So sometimes it's hard to find these things. So I put them all in one place for you. So that'll be linked in the show notes. If you want to, if you want to snag that, make it easy on yourself. It's just like, it's just low ticket. It's only $27. Okay. Intersecting trends. This is what I was talking about earlier, where there's like a lot of crossover. So we already mentioned Grand Millennial. I keep spelling it wrong. Millennial has two N's in it and I keep spelling it with one N. Oh, that just that just updated to premillennial. It should say Grand Millennial. So again, it's going to be like kind of updating or mixing vintage items with a modern twist or a modern design. We're seeing a lot of patchwork things that almost look like a, like a quilty fabric, floral ruffles, lace, French decorations is its own trend, but very much intersects with this Grand Millennial with like earthy pottery. The toile de joie pattern, it's that also sometimes called chinoiserie, that it's like a dainty floral pattern, but it's in a deep blue usually or a burgundy red. And it's just very French countryside French decor. Another big one is line art. Flowers and elements. So it's still just very popular to have a very minimalist design. Just wildflowers that are just line art or you'll see sometimes like outlines of women. Just very, very beautiful, very simple line art. Another one is, we've talked about this a bit already is monochromatic designs. You would not believe how well you can do with just one color. People really love it, especially if you do it right. So I earlier I described my Italian style T shirt on the red orange color, but it's a white monochromatic design. Very, very striking. Even though it's just one simple color. The dark navy blue is an or indigo blue. Those two colors, Very, very popular as a monochromatic design. And another one that does really well is when you have like a black base or for example, like a pepper colored comfort colors T shirt and you do a tan design on that in one, just, just tan monochromatic. And those things can do really well. Something I, I often mention in the membership that has worked well for me over the years, both in, in digital products and then also in print on demand. It could apply in physical products. But when I describe it, you'll understand why I'm mentioning those two types of products is that if you see something that's doing really well in one style, let's say, like I was noticing that wildflowers did really well on a shirt, a certain style of wildflowers and they're really like muted boho type colors. Well, I could take that same concept but instead make it monochromatic. So I'm making it my own. It's a similar kind of a style of flower, but I'm making it monochromatic. And it just works because monochromatic is a whole different trend. So if you can start to. Gosh, so much of success on SE is paying attention to the details, my friends. Like if you could just pay attention to the details, what mockups are they using, what fonts are they using, what elements are they using? And just don't try to slap things together, but pay attention to the specific placement. Like sometimes you have a great design but it's not placed right on the mockup. And just that little offsetting makes the customer go, oh, I really don't want that printed wrong. And they won't buy it. Even though it's a great design. Pay attention to those details. So pay attention and then think of ways that you can flip a concept and put it into a different trend like we just discussed. Maybe try it in monochromatic or if something's monochromatic, try it in boho muted colors. Or if something's doing great on the front of a shirt, try it on the back of a shirt and do a pocket design. Another big trend is Western core. This continues to do really well. It's sort of, it's very evergreen things. Think of like cowboy boots, cowboy hats, cacti, desert themes, country music vibes. And you know, we're seeing a lot of that trend combined. So sometimes you'll see those western elements with 90s elements. Sometimes you'll see it with coquette elements. A big one has been like, what is it called? Oh, coastal cowgirl. So the summer coastal, you know, themed elements with but, but like with a western twist. You'll see it with like books for the literary girl. So super fun. And I love that that trend lives on. Another big one has been vintage cartoons particularly. You'll see this as like a, a retro housewife. And it usually has some kind of sassy feminist phrase. It does go beyond this. Sometimes you'll see something sassy with a, or a raccoon, but these are typically monochromatic. They're vintage looking cartoons. They look a little old, that dark, that, that dark blue color is a big one for these. And it'll be just that, that kind of more antiquey looking cartoon with some kind of updated sassy phrase that does really well. Another trend is the soft girl, like your soft girl era. So girly, feminine, pastel pinks, more bows, intersects with coquette lace. Anything that would just be much, you know, really embracing the feminine. Another trend is preppy. So think updated 90s things that we loved in the 90s. Those kinds of elements, those kinds of fonts, those kinds of. What do I want to say? Oh, like style or like fashion fit, but just updated a little bit. Checkers are a big element of that. Retro oversized designs or a lot of that. Honestly, for me, preppy is one of the harder ones to nail down because I feel like it's. It is a really big umbrella. I mentioned this earlier, but doodle fonts have been big everywhere. Just customized for an occupation or customized for a color palette for a holiday, things like that. So it just, it's like a big gosh. I remember in school we used to draw. We used to, you know, draw a lot of lettering. Right? Bubble letters is the word I'm looking for. So doodle fonts are kind of like bubble letters but a little more blocky. And they look a little more sketchy. Not sketchy like, like you sketched them. Not sketchy, like weird. Okay, now I'm gonna rattle off some Christmas trends that I learned about recently to help you guys start planning for that. I thought that was fun. And then we're gonna jump into the Etsy seller handbook trends that they came out with because they had some really, really good descriptors on that. And then we'll be wrapping up. So for Christmas, here's what I learned. There's a lot of intersection from last year. We're seeing a lot of some of the same things spill over, which is going to be really helpful. That means some of our designs that were bestsellers last year might be bestsellers again this year. That's wonderful. And then the other thing I learned, which was really interesting is that apparently America is. Follows the trends of Europe, particularly Italy. In for. For. I don't know if it's for everything there. I was just talking specifically about Christmas and we're about three to five years behind. So if you're able to go look at what's happening in Italy now, you'll know what is going to happen in the US in three to five years. I thought that was really interesting. I also kind of love that. Like, like, isn't that just so charming? So pink and red are going to be really big colors this Christmas. They did say a lot of that was kicked off by the Barbie movie. So a little bit more of an American trend, but it is holding steam. You know, what is it is this two years later now and that come out two years ago? I'm not sure. I don't. I'm not big on pop culture. So pink and red holographic doesn't surprise me. That was big last year. I remember for Halloween we did a lot of holographic stuff. But. But holographic is big for Christmas. Gingerbread again, which makes me so happy. That was one of my favorite things from last year. Gold glitter is going to be really big again. Metallics and leopard print combined together. I saw a lot of leopard print, poinsettia, so that's kind of cool. Like the poinsettia leaves were leopard print, rhinestone red, kind of ruby. Rhinestone. Ruby rhinestone red was everywhere. Really, really pretty. Peacocks and peacock colors was a big one. Pastel candy isn't that interesting that that's where the pastel is showing up because it's been such a trend. Another part of that minty green was a big Christmas color, I noticed. And then for elements, I saw white owls, I saw pheasants. The woodland theme continues to be huge, which makes me so happy. I feel like it has been for what, 10, 20 years now. And I just love it. I think it's so charming. But, you know, look at me up here in the Northwoods. And then vintage Santa and vintage elements were huge. So obviously, as we get closer to the holidays, I will be doing another trend report with what I'm actually seeing on the platform. But after speaking with these gentlemen who eat, sleep and breathe Christmas, I was excited to learn these things and pass them on to you. So let's talk about what the Etsy Seller handbook shared in terms of trends. I really liked this trend report. I thought it was very relevant. Sometimes in the past I've been like, this was not helpful. But today this was so helpful. So the first trend is Literary Girl. And they said paging all romantics, bookworms and daydreamers, the literary revival is officially here. With nearly 20,000 book related purchases happening on Etsy every day, it's clear that reading is more than just a hobby. It's a lifestyle. From vintage book stacks doubling as decor. Yes. To personalized book embossers that mark your most treasured reads, literary culture has never been cooler. Okay. We have been seeing this like gangbusters. I particularly, I personally have a listing on Etsy that is a book book niche related like, like bookworm. And it is trend combined with Coquette and it sells for me constantly. I'm not sure if it has a bestseller badge. It very well may, but I get very regular sales from it. So super, super big. I do notice a boom in the Bookstagram booktok, you know, bookworm niche. Beginning of summer and beginning of the year. I think a lot of people set intentions and goals to read, you know, xyz and those are times when those things tend to boom. But they're big year round. They're great evergreen concepts. So here was something they said. They said blind book date boxes searches have more than doubled. Blind book date. I wonder what that means. I wonder if that's like where you like. Basically books are just suggested. Like it's like a blind date but with a book. Searches have doubled. Book club items searches are up over 20%. Personalized book embossers searches are up over 30%. That's awesome. The next trend they mentioned, which I thought was perfect, was messy Coquette. So they're saying coquette, but make it cool girl. So cute. This season the aesthetic is flirtier, campier and way more fun. A playful evolution of a hyper feminine style. The Messy coquette trend blends 90s and Y2K pop star energy with effortless undone charm. And the ruffle renaissance is leading the charge. From closets to couches. Sales for ruffled jackets, skirts, curtains, blankets and throw pillows are all up in the double digits. But it's not just ruffles. Tussled ribbon tied hair bow sweatshirts, charm covered everything. And beaded bags bring that main character energy we live for. Coquette bow searches are up over 500%. Bow tees and sweatshirt sales have more than doubled. Bead bags searches are up nearly 20%. I'm not sure what that one is. Okay. But this is very much like I was saying before, like Coquette but trend combined. Notice they said blend 90s, not Y2K pop energy I am seeing this everywhere though. Like I said even just a minute ago with like the literary girl number three is island luxe. And this is what I was talking to you before about kind of that elevated resort coastal concept. I am wondering if this is partly inspired by White Lotus. I don't know if you've seen that. You've got to have a stomach for, for it. It's really, really well done. But it's graphic. It's on max if anyone wants to see it. But it's a very, very high end resort and there was so much talk about the fashion and the decor and the design. All of the, all of it was so detailed that I'm wondering. It was such a cultural, pop cultural phenomenon, so. And actually listen to what Etsy says. Fueled by the latest cultural moments like binge worthy resort dramas and island inspired chart toppers, Island Lux is bringing vacation energy to the forefront this season. I have a feeling there's other shows that I'm just not aware of. Also known as resort core or tourist chic, this trend is all about making an intentional statement looking at you. Minimalism. I haven't heard of that. Minimalism. Cute. I'm like, what does that mean? Mid could be interpreted a few different ways. Okay, well more on that later. Actually, hold on, I'm pushing pause and looking it up. Okay. At first blush, I'm looking it up and the first thing that came up was, oh wait, hold on. Yeah, so the first thing that came up was minimalism versus maximalism. And people are like, yeah, minimalist versus maximalist. And there's kind of a collision of the two of them. But it's saying when discussing minimalism or maximalism, one can't be considered one. One can't be considered one without the other. The two go hand in hand like siblings or perhaps more accurately, fraternal twins. So we'll hear identifications like I am a minimalist or I am a maximalist. But what if you're something in between? Lately there's been a growing interest in exploring the middle ground between minimalism and maximalism. Enter mid malism. That's hard to say. Back to Island Lux. Thanks for going on the journey with me. Whether you're lounging poolside or just manifesting it. Breezy linens, pops of fruit. Hello. Inspired jewelry and natural textures like raffia. Serve up that sun. Sunkissed glamour with a touch of beachside indulgence. And with travel accessories ranking at the top. Search on Etsy this year. Interesting. It's clear that everyone is in Their jet setting era. I'm like, what? Travel accessories are being sold on Etsy now? I want to go search. Fruit necklaces Searches have skyrocketed nearly 500%. Raffia bags have more than quadrupled. How interesting. Number four, the next trend. Galactic Metallic. I don't like that title, but. But I don't disagree with what they're about to say. As space travel and sci fi aesthetics, shape, culture, fashion and design are following suit, bringing us straight into a new era of cosmic cool. Galactic Metallic is a futuristic evolution of last season's chrome craze. Oh, is the chrome gone? Sad. I really liked my chrome nails bringing with it a liquid. Oh no. Liquid silver that shimmers like meteor shower. Holographic. Yep. Holographic textures straight out of sci fi dream. And reflective fabrics that make you look like you just stepped off a spaceship. But it's not just about the shine. Deep blue pieces channel the mystery of the night sky. While Zodiac jewelry soars in popularity. With searches up 400 letting buyers wear their star sign like a badge of honor. Okay, so totally agree with the chrome. Totally agree with the holographic. Totally agree with the dark blue. And then Zodiac is massive. If you have anything that would be like kind of a surprise to combine with Zodiac, holy cow, people will buy it. Crystal mug searches are up 700%. And then half moon lamps searches are up nearly 600%. What I have been seeing, and like I said, searches for Zodiac jewelry is up 400%. Anything that can help personalize to a zodiac sign? You could almost create a bundle. Actually this would be great for my digital product sellers. You could create a bundle where there is a design element for each sign. So someone could could purchase, you know, probably for commercial use, Purchase your bundle and have something to present to anyone given, you know, based on their sign in their shop. That would be really, really brilliant. Those have been just. I. I cannot tell you how many bestsellers I have seen that are Zodiac related. Number five, Chateaucore. This is so fun. If last summer was all about the carefree tomato girl vibe, this year we've stepped into something a little more romantic and storied. Chateaucore on Etsy. It's clear this old world aesthetic is having a major moment. French cottage decor is one of the top searched items on Etsy this year, up over 26,000%. Less Mediterranean seaside escape and more countryside charm. Chateaucore is all about airy cotton dresses, embroidered textiles. Yep. And vintage glassware that makes Sunday brunch feel like a scene from a French novel. Charcuterie boards. Gifts searches have quadrupled. Puffy quilts searches have nearly tripled. Vintage glassware searches have nearly doubled. Okay, so what does this make me think of? This is an intersection with Grand Millennial. We're seeing the, the quilted pattern or the quilted fabric. We're seeing the French cottage decor like the chinoiserie and the toile de joie. We are seeing the, we're seeing this updated antique. Right? The chateaucore is all about the, the vintage style, the elegant antique, you know, retro vibes with an updated twist. And that's what we are seeing in the Grand Millennial. Super interesting number six. And this is the last one is maritime living. So it says, forget crisp yacht club whites. Maritime living is all about embracing the raw, untamed spirit of the sea. Inspired by the real deal. Fishermen. Hello. And seafarers. This trend brings a rugged edge to classic coastal style. Sardine motifs. Shell bags and rain boots add a salty, lived in feel. While sea glass accents and handcrafted details bring ocean inspired tranquility to interiors. All while stripes, they're everywhere. Are an undeniable summer wardrobe staple. They're making major waves in home decor too, with sales for striped items up double digits across rugs, linens, and wall art. Yes, yes, yes. The result? A look that's effortless, effortlessly cool, unfussy, and steeped in timeless rugged coastal charm. Shell bags searches have more than doubled. Fishermen aesthetic searches have nearly doubled. And sardine items are. Searches are up 75%. Okay, so very much coastal meets fisherman aesthetic. Those colors we talked about, the red orange with the dark blue, but also lots of muted oceany tones, lots of monochromatic of that navy blue. So I have to give a shout out to Melissa from episode 169. She is an artist who has turned her original artwork into an amazing Etsy business. A lot of you come to me and say, how do I sell my original art on Etsy? And one of the mistakes that people often make is they, you know, and I respect this as an artist you have, I, I actually celebrate this for you. You want to make what you feel inspired to make. But Etsy is a marketplace and it's also a search engine. So it's not going to sell on Etsy if people aren't searching for it. You could drive your own traffic to it. You'd have to generate your own marketing plan. You'd have to use social media, drive your own traffic to it, get your own fan base. Or what she has done and it just happened to work with her style is she's found a way to intersect what she loves to create with some of the trends. And I interviewed her and I said to her on that episode, I said, hey, do you know what would do so well for you in your kind of style of how you paint, do some things with sardines. Because I had started to see them take off. And sure enough, she had a bestseller. She was contacted by Etsy. She had all these crazy things happen since then. So check out episode 169 to hear Melissa's story. She's also just awesome. I love her so much. And you will, too. So that's a great one for original artists or anyone who just wants to hear a really good Etsy story. She's charming beyond words, but. But listen to some of these things.
