Copper
It.
Amber
Can we stop for a second?
Copper
No.
Glass
I don't hear the golem. I don't think it's following us anymore.
Copper
Great.
Amber
Screw it. I'm stopping.
Copper
We have to keep going. Amber.
Amber
My broken arm hurts.
Copper
Copper, you're only walking. You should be fine. It's not your lake.
Glass
Amber's right. We need a break.
Copper
Silver. Silver. Fine.
Glass
How long have we been walking?
Amber
Too long.
Copper
We haven't found anything yet, so not long enough.
Glass
Don't worry about it, Copper. We'll find something.
Copper
Yeah.
Glass
How much water do you have?
Amber
Not enough.
Copper
That's a good idea, though. We should check what we have.
Glass
Everybody got at least one backpack.
Amber
Nobody's got more than one backpack bag. I really love doing this with one hand.
Glass
Here.
Amber
Thanks.
Copper
I have a couple bags of trail mix and two water purifier tablets.
Amber
I have a few packets of that juice powder stuff.
Glass
One survival blanket and, like, half a notebook and a pen.
Copper
And my water bottle. Glass.
Glass
I've got mine, too.
Copper
Silver. Hey. Silver, focus.
Silver
It wasn't real.
Copper
Yeah, it wasn't. That wasn't the real one. So we'll go find the real one. What do you have in your stuff? For the love of. Give me your bag. I'll look.
Amber
It's the afternoon. Shouldn't we start, I don't know, pitching camp or something?
Copper
No, we can keep going. We'll find something soon. I can feel it.
Glass
Copper, we've been walking for hours. If we haven't found somewhere by the time it gets dark.
Copper
So what then? Do we camp? With your one survival blanket over us? We don't even have any supplies to put a ward up. If we can get to, I don't know, a vending machine or a gas station or something, we can trade for more supplies.
Amber
Trade with what? We barely even have anything.
Copper
Think of something. We'll be clever. We have to get enough for a new car.
Amber
Copper, we're never going to be able to afford another car.
Glass
Yeah, the only reason we had that.
Copper
One is because I know whose car it was. Okay? Sorry. I just want to get to the somewhere better.
Silver
There is no somewhere better.
Glass
Maybe not, but we can keep going. It'll be fine. We've survived all our worst days, haven't we?
Amber
Copper hasn't.
Copper
No, Glass. It's real. It's real and we're going to find it. I have to find it.
Silver
We did find the copper. It was back there. It was dead. That's all there was.
Copper
No. We just got it wrong again. We got the wrong one. It wasn't the real one.
Amber
Screw the somewhere better. What about food? What about drinking water?
Copper
We keep going. We'll come across something soon. I know we will.
Glass
Where are my cards?
Amber
I thought you always had them on you.
Glass
I do. I mean, I did. I thought I did. Where are they? Where are they? Where are they?
Amber
Screaming Glass, Silver, can just make another den.
Glass
We don't have time. And I need. I need them. Amber, you don't understand.
Amber
Yeah, guys, I guess I don't. Because I never broke rule number one and fell in love with a folk.
Glass
You're jealous.
Amber
Maybe. Or maybe you got us cursed and that's why we don't have a car anymore.
Glass
Stop worrying so much about the car. We're going to be fine. As long as I can find my cards.
Copper
Stop worrying about the cards and pack up your backpack. Glass.
Glass
You're right. You're right. I think I just dropped them in the garden. We can just go back for a second, just so I can grab.
Amber
We're not going back to the garden. Forget about your stupid cards.
Copper
You'll find another way to contact Aster. Just get your stuff.
Glass
Oh, this isn't happening. This isn't happening. I can't lose them.
Copper
Look at me, Glass. This. Whatever you're doing right now, you need to stop. You need to focus. We can fix this. We just have to keep working.
Amber
We're going to die out here, Copper.
Copper
Not going to die.
Amber
We're going to die. And it's your fault.
Copper
What? How is this my fault?
Amber
If you weren't so dead set on finding the somewhere better, we wouldn't have gone in there.
Copper
What else would we be doing? Driving around forever? Sitting around and getting sucked into all this like everybody else. Losing ourselves until we're just pieces. There is a safe place and I will get there. I don't care what I have to do. I'm going to make it. Get your stuff. We're moving.
Amber
Fine. Great. And when we all get turned into tree stumps or insects because you wanted to keep marching through the woods, I'll have all of eternity to blame you for for it.
Copper
Yeah, because nothing's ever your fault, is it?
Glass
Back to the garden.
Amber
Yeah, we're going back to the garden, to our car. To get destroyed by that golem. Great idea, Glass. I think we should do that.
Copper
Shut up. Let's just go. Come on, Silver. I said come on, Silver.
Silver
Okay.
Copper
Yes, you can let's go.
Silver
I can't get up.
Copper
Silver. Come on. Silver.
Silver
Maybe it's better if y'all just leave.
Copper
Amber, help me for a second.
Amber
Why?
Copper
There's something growing on them. Help me pull. Okay. On three. Ready?
Amber
Yeah.
Copper
One. Two.
Amber
Three. What is that? Are those roots?
Copper
Glass, help us. Glass.
Amber
They're not growing around them, Copper. They're attached to them.
Silver
I'm done. I can't do this anymore.
Copper
They're sinking. Glass, help us.
Amber
Come on. Sn.
Copper
Silver.
Amber
Silver.
Glass
There's light. There's light coming from the hole.
Amber
Come on, Move.
Copper
Go feet first. Feet first.
Glass
I can't feel the bottom. Then should we try it?
Amber
I'm just going to draw.
Glass
Grab my hand. Pull me with you. Wait.
Copper
Wait. Maybe we should. Come on.
Glass
Copper.
Copper
I'm stuck. I can't get through.
Glass
Amber.
Copper
I can't. And then I was somewhere else.
Amber
Where are we?
Copper
Somewhere different, Silver. A forest. Narrow trees. Fog. The air was the same temperature as my body. Everything was blue. I couldn't feel any of it.
Glass
What happened? Where are we?
Silver
I don't know.
Copper
They acted like they didn't see it. The creature. Its long, furry body. Legs of spindly naked claws. Like a bird's black eyes. It was like the creature inside the wall. Only smaller. Paler. It creeped around us. It kept behind the trees, watching.
Amber
How do we get back? We came out of a hole. But it's. It's gone.
Glass
It's all right, Amber. It's all right. We. We only have to find a new way out.
Amber
It's gone. Everything's gone.
Glass
Amber.
Amber
I'm tired. I'm so tired. And I feel so cheated. How come I don't get any good memories from before? Like you and Silver? How come I only get to be here when everything is falling apart?
Glass
I don't know.
Amber
This is just bullshit. You know, I didn't even ask to be born. And all I get is a few decades where everything gets progressively worse until it finally kills me. And I. And I can't even do anything. And it isn't even my fault.
Silver
Amber. Even before the change, lots of things felt like the end of the world. Wars, plagues, famines.
Amber
But it's not the same, Silver. It doesn't feel like it this time. It actually is the end of the world. And I'm tired. There is no somewhere better. There's nowhere safe from this. And I'm not. I'm not big enough to handle that. There isn't enough of me to handle that.
Copper
Silver could see the stalking creature. I could tell. They looked right at It. But didn't say anything. And then they looked away.
Glass
Come here. I'm trying to be happy for what we have. But it's hard, you know, because you're right. We're never gonna have it as good as other people did.
Silver
Maybe not.
Glass
And I wasted it. The time I had when things were good, I wasted it. I didn't even do anything important. There were so many things I could have done, but I never did. And now. Now I'll never have the chance. And maybe. Maybe I kind of hate myself for it, you know?
Copper
The creature padded closer. It was quiet. Nobody could hear it. I think Silver was the only one who saw. It smelled like salt and flowers.
Glass
And I'm. I'm angry and it feels terrible.
Amber
It's not fine anymore.
Glass
It was never fine, Amber. But I thought it was going to get better. I thought we only had to wait for a while and then it would be okay. But now we're here, and there's no way out.
Silver
Right?
Glass
When I was finally starting to.
Silver
Starting to what, darling?
Glass
Starting to get it right. I was so close, you know? I was so close. It's kind of funny, isn't it? Because I was fine when it was my fault. I was okay with that. But this. This isn't my fault. It took me so long to get out of my own way. But then the moment I do, it all gets taken away from me anyway. If I had known this would happen, I. I would have. I would have spent more time. I. I would have told Esther.
Silver
Come here. I'm sorry to you all. I'm sorry I can't make it any easier. I'm sorry I couldn't save any of us. I thought I could for a long time. It's the biggest injustice of them all. That life ain't nothing but a long chain of deaths. It's just bad timing, us getting here just in time to see the world die. But not too late enough to see if it gets to come alive again. But what an honor, getting to see the end. And besides, we're not gone yet. We've got time, however much that is. Time to make a few good memories. Time to use as best as we can. We're all little worlds in our own way. Always dying and always new.
Copper
It got closer. Silver reached a hand toward it, the one not wrapped around the other two. The creature, all soft silver fur and thin black legs, buried its mask of a face against Silver's palm.
Glass
Hmm.
Silver
I'm gonna find an exit.
Amber
How?
Silver
Just gonna look. I got a feeling something will turn Up.
Glass
Can we help?
Silver
Of course you can, darling.
Copper
The creature left while they were looking. That's when they finally noticed.
Amber
We lost Copper.
Glass
Copper. Copper.
Copper
But I had already noticed. They couldn't see me, couldn't hear me. So I had already wandered away by then. Hey. Don't. Don't come any closer. What are you. What do you want? Tell me. Closer.
Amber
Every day. Somewhere. Even summer will be nice. I'll believe it if you can.
Copper
What? No. No. Leave me alone. Just leave me alone. We're closer every day. I need to get out of here. I need to find it. I will find it. I promise. I promise. I promise. I promise. I promise.
Glass
We were looking everywhere for you. What happened?
Silver
Copper.
Copper
No.
Silver
Copper, what are you doing?
Copper
I'm. I'm digging out.
Silver
We found it, darling. We found the way out.
Copper
I tried. You couldn't see me. I tried to get your attention and you. You couldn't hear me.
Glass
We can hear you now.
Silver
It's time we got out of here, y'all.
Copper
You found a way out? How?
Silver
We had to be patient to find it. Probably would have missed it if we were trying too hard.
Amber
Come on. We can't stay here forever.
Copper
Okay.
Silver
This way.
Copper
It's just right there. Right where you came in.
Glass
Yeah, I think it was there the whole time.
Copper
Huh.
Silver
I'm gonna test it and see y. Yep.
Copper
Yep.
Silver
It's pulling. Hang on to me, y'all. I think I can. I think I got it.
Glass
But I can feel the other side. I feel the air.
Copper
Glass.
Glass
Move.
Amber
There's not enough space.
Silver
Glass, you first. Help pull Amber through. You got it, Amber.
Amber
Got it.
Silver
Copper, you next.
Copper
I can't.
Silver
You just have to squeeze, darling. You can make it through.
Amber
They keep slipping.
Silver
Glass, you got them?
Glass
Amber's right. They're heavy or something.
Silver
Everybody pull.
Glass
Copper.
Silver
Everybody here? One, two, three.
Amber
Silver, I don't think this is where we fell in.
Silver
I think you're right.
Glass
Look. Over the hill.
Amber
What is that?
Glass
Looks like a house.
Silver
Well, I'll be damned.
Copper
Silver.
Silver
Sorry. Sorry.
Amber
Are you sure it's a house? Looks kind of small.
Glass
A house? Cabin. I don't know.
Amber
It looks empty.
Copper
Nothing's ever empty, Amber.
Silver
Only one way to know for certain.
Copper
But what if someone's in there?
Silver
But what if someone ain't?
Amber
I love camping out in hovels. I'm sure there will be no spiders.
Glass
Do we get to pick our own rooms?
Amber
I love the assumption that there are going to be multiple rooms.
Glass
Oh.
Amber
Hey, Glass, look.
Glass
What?
Amber
There's a truck out back.
Glass
Nice. You'll have something to do what's that look for? I lost my cards.
Amber
Yeah, I'm sure the semi omniscient supernatural being who can sense their name being said anywhere in the world is never going to be able to find you ever again.
Glass
Oh, shut up.
Amber
They'll find you. They're probably already looking.
Glass
You don't sound upset about it.
Amber
Honestly, I'm just glad they make you happy.
Glass
Thanks, Amber.
Silver
Seems you were right, Copper. Just had to keep going a little while. Yeah, we could stay a few nights, get back on our feet and then.
Copper
We can keep looking for the somewhere better.
Silver
Maybe. But for now, let's worry about setting up camp. All right?
Copper
All right.

Through intense dialogues and haunting encounters, the survivors grapple with their past, their hopes, and the ever-present dangers that lurk in their post-apocalyptic landscape.
The episode opens with the group persisting in their journey, despite exhaustion and dwindling resources. Amber expresses her need to stop, citing her pain:
Amber (00:56): "Can we stop for a second?"
Copper dismisses her plea, emphasizing the necessity to keep moving:
Copper (00:58): "No."
As the walk continues, Glass reassures the group that the golem, a menacing creature trailing them, is no longer pursuing:
Glass (01:04): "I don't hear the golem. I don't think it's following us anymore."
Amber's frustration mounts as the journey drags on without any sign of refuge:
Amber (01:21): "Amber's right. We need a break."
The survivors assess their limited supplies, revealing their precarious situation:
As supplies dwindle, Copper's obsession with finding "somewhere better" intensifies, leading to friction within the group:
Copper (03:14): "Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't the real one. So we'll go find the real one."

Amidst the darkness, Silver discovers an exit, guiding the group towards what seems like salvation. However, Copper becomes separated, desperately trying to rejoin:
Copper (17:56): "I'm going to get out of here. I need to find it. I will find it. I promise."
The tension heightens as the team navigates the complexities of escaping the enigmatic forest, ultimately stumbling upon what appears to be a house:
Glass (21:34): "Look. Over the hill."
The survivors approach the house with a mix of hope and apprehension. Amber mocks the apparent safety of the structure, while Glass laments the loss of her cards—a crucial item for their survival:

Copper embodies determination and an unwavering belief in finding "somewhere better." His single-minded pursuit often puts him at odds with the group's immediate needs, highlighting a potential flaw in his leadership. His refusal to yield contributes to mounting tensions within the group, especially with Amber.
Amber's character reveals profound vulnerability and despair. Her frustration stems from the relentless hardships and the seeming futility of their quest. Her emotional outbursts provide a counterbalance to Copper's stoicism, showcasing the psychological toll of their journey.
Glass serves as the group's mediator, grappling with guilt and regret. Her search for her lost cards symbolizes a deeper longing for connection and a way to communicate with lost loved ones, adding layers to her character's motivations.
Silver offers moments of optimism and philosophical insight, attempting to uplift the group's spirits. His interactions suggest a deep understanding of their plight, providing moments of respite in the midst of chaos.
The episode juxtaposes the physical demands of survival with the emotional and psychological need for hope. Copper's quest for a sanctuary represents the innate human desire for safety, while Amber's despair underscores the fragility of that hope in dire circumstances.
Copper's role as a leader is scrutinized through his relentless pursuit and the resultant strain on group dynamics. The episode explores the burdens of leadership and the fine line between determination and obsession.
The survivors' interactions highlight the importance of interpersonal connections in sustaining hope. Glass's lost cards and Silver's philosophical musings emphasize the human need for communication and understanding amidst isolation.
Encounters with otherworldly creatures and enigmatic phenomena add a layer of mysticism, symbolizing the unpredictable challenges one faces in a world turned upside down.
"Somewhere Better II" is a poignant exploration of human resilience amidst unrelenting adversity. Through intense character interactions and a haunting narrative, Hymns for the Road delves into the complexities of hope, leadership, and survival in a decimated world.
