A
Foreign. Hi, guys. Welcome back to I'll read what she's reading. I'm Kennedy.
B
I'm Michaela.
A
And Reggie is over here giggling about Harry Styles still.
C
Sorry, what's new? I'm Reggie.
A
She loves Harry Styles, Sunrise on the Reaping, and her kids.
C
Those are my three personality traits.
B
And Noah Khan. You can't forget Noah Khan.
A
Yeah, Noah Khan. You can't forget about Noah Khan.
B
Anyways, woo.
A
We're back with another TBR episode. You guys favorites this time. We're going over our spring tbr. Because it's springtime.
B
Yay.
C
I mean, it's kind of felt like springtime for a while, so I don't know why I'm surprised.
B
It's. The weather's been springy. It's been this, you know, caught up to me with the spring tbr.
C
I always.
A
How'd you guys do on your winter tbr?
B
I could have done better.
A
Okay, Reggie,
C
poor.
B
One word poor.
A
Just poor. Well.
B
Oh, what does poor mean for you? Like, out of five, what did you accomplish?
C
Well, it's kind of hard to say. Should I just get into it?
A
Let's just get into our winter tbr. If you're new here to our TBR episodes, we go over our thoughts ratings of our previous season tbr and then share with you the books we're picking for the current season.
B
Because if you got like two out
A
of three, I mean, I mean, I
C
do that better than my fall tbr, if you listen to that, you know, that was a bit of a train wreck. The problem is the first two books I started. Well, one of them, I DNF'd give us the. I mean, I technically DNF'd the second one, but it's because I've just tried to start it a million times. First book was Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross.
A
And hey, Sarah Corley also DNFed it, I'm pretty sure.
C
Here's the thing, I. I've had a lot of conversations with people in our DMs because I was posting about it and I'm like, I was really excited to read it because it had such amazing reviews. And then I started it and I was, like, really confused. I had to, like, go refresh my brain on what happened in Divine Rivals. Even though technically you can read this one before or after. But, like, jumping back into that world was a. I was like, you know, there's all the gods and you're in more of like the realm of the gods and not the humans stuff, if that makes sense. So I was having a hard time. I was, like, trying to remember, like, what happened. And it's kind of a prequel, so there was a lot in my brain trying to, like, keep track of the gods. And then once I finally was like, okay, I remember the other books. I think I got it. I was so bored. I was so bored. And all the DMs I got from people that loved the book, they're like, just be patient. Like, just hold out to 50% of the book. But I'm like, it's a long book, and I think I DNF'd it around, like, 46%. And so I was really upset because I got that far into the book and that I was genuinely that bored that I had to, like, I was gonna be done. And I made a promise to myself at the beginning of this year that, you know, there's so many books, so little time. If I'm not feeling something, I am going to. I'm not gonna push through it. I'm gonna just be done. Because I would rather. I mean, I don't know what I'm missing if I, you know, don't finish it. True. So I DNF'd it. And some people were like, oh, my gosh, are you crazy? Like, ending is, like, so amazing. So then I, like, spoiled the ending for myself.
A
Would it have been worth it?
C
I don't know. I think I still. I had a hard time understanding what even happened in the first half of the book. So maybe I'm just dumb, but it just. It was so slow, and it was very beautiful. Like, the writing was beautiful, but I just. I struggled. So if you loved that book, I'm so sorry, but I just. I couldn't keep fighting through it. So it was a DNF for me. Then the other book, I didn't. Well, I got to it, guys. I tried to. I think I've tried starting this book, like, four or five times. I'm not kidding. We begin at the end by.
B
Oh, yes.
C
I can't remember who it's by. Hold on, let me pull it up on my other hand, because it's just been sitting there. We begin at the end by Chris Whittaker. Who?
B
The girl. Like, the COVID with the really stunning girl.
C
No, it's like a field.
A
Oh. Oh. Is it a thriller?
C
It's. That's the thing is, I think the reason why I've had a hard time, like, I've read the first three chapters, like, six times, I swear, because, like, every time I pick it up, I'm like, oh, I gotta start over. I don't remember what happened. It's basically about. There's like this outlaw, and I'm even trying to remember what it's about. I don't.
A
So it's a Western. Just kidding.
B
Outlaw.
C
So there's like this guy being released from jail and everyone on town's kind of on edge because you don't really know what's going on. I don't know. So the reason I picked it up is because I was seeing so many reviews that were like, this is going to be a classic one day. Like, this is so amazing. And it doesn't mean I'm not going to read it. But, like, every time I started it, I was just like, I'm not in the mood for this. So maybe I was just picking it at the wrong time. But every time I'd pick it up, there was always another book in the back of my head that I was like, I'd rather read this.
A
Yeah.
C
So I didn't want to do the book a disservice. But then all of a sudden, this episode caught up to me and I was like, oh, I've only read the first three chapters, like six times, so no big deal. Maybe I should just give up.
A
But.
C
So I didn't. I guess you could say I DNF'd it.
A
I don't know.
C
Just had a hard time with that one. And then I am halfway through the Book of Doors, which was my other one. I'm really enjoying it. I really am. I'm really enjoying it. I just, like, started listening to In Her Own League because I was having FOMO because everyone was posting about it on TikTok. And so I started that and then I couldn't stop. So now I'm back into the book Doors, and I still am enjoying it. But the other two that I actually did read were before I let Go by Kennedy Ryan. You read that, right? Kennedy.
A
Yeah. But I don't remember a single thing.
C
It had a lot of depth to it. So romance, right? Yeah. It's about a divorced couple.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
And they've just been through a lot and there's just. It's a story of, like. Yeah. Forgiveness, grief. They're very mature.
A
Yes. If I'm remembering correctly. Yes.
C
And I really liked.
A
Yeah.
C
The maturity of it, the depth of it. I just don't think I got really invested in the story until, like, pretty far through the book. But I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading more of Kennedy Ryan's books. And then the other book was the crash by Freida McFadden. It was, you know, it was a Frida McFadden, so it was a train wreck. It honestly, this is one where I actually could have told you what was going to happen. I was. I felt very confident in all. There was probably like a random plot twist in there that I didn't see coming, but for the most part, I guessed most of it. But, you know, it was an easy listen and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. And, you know, of course it ends and you're like, what? So, you know, I was glad I picked it up when I did because that one didn't satisfy me too much. So then I picked up another Frida McFadden and then I was like, you know, it's been a long time since I hung out with Frida, so she spiraled. I also read Never Lie. I like that one better.
A
Anyways, so what was your favorite then?
C
Right now I'd probably say the Book of Doors and I'm only halfway through it. But between Before I Let Go and the Crush, I'd have to say Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan. So anyways, sorry to disappoint. I was very thoughtful in my picks for my spring tbr, so I will make sure I read them.
A
And it's okay if you don't. Yeah, it's all right.
C
Sometimes you're just a mood reader, you know.
A
So you tried. You at least tried every book. I really did. I really did, you know, Gotta give you props for that at least. Mikayla.
B
Oh, I'm gonna go. Okay. My first one was good spirits by B.K. borison, and that was a Patreon Book Club.
A
Yes book.
B
Very cute, very fun. Had to read that before Christmas, obviously, so. And then second one was Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte mcogany.
A
My thoughts exactly.
B
I don't even know.
A
It's been.
B
I mean, it's been a while since I have read it. I think my thoughts were just like, what?
A
When I finished
B
was like, interesting and I was interested to see where it was going to go. But I just, like, really didn't like any of the characters, I guess. No, I like the kids. The kids were cute and like, they
A
did the best with what they were given.
B
Yeah, I just felt like they had a lot of moral dilemmas that I just personally didn't agree with. And so I think I had a hard time with, like, morally. I just didn't agree with any of their decisions. And so I just was like, what are they Doing, you know, it was. I mean, it's. It is a very unique storytelling that she did for this book, which hats off to her for doing that in that way. And I know there's a lot of people that really, really loved it. I just don't think it's my cup of tea, so. And I. I listened to that one. The audiobook was good. There was accents and stuff.
C
Yeah. Multiple narrators.
A
Yeah.
B
Multiple, multiple narrators. The third one is Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer R. Armatrout. This is the third from Blood and Ash, and I just started it yesterday. Oops.
A
You try.
B
I tried. Honestly, I. I'm intrigued. But I started it. I was like, I completely forgot everything that happened in the second book, how it ended. It, like, immediately goes from second to third, and I was like, what's going on? I don't know. And I'm at a part where I'm like, what the flip is going on? You know, I'm going to brave through still continue, but I think this is going to be a book where I'm just, like, going to listen to it if I don't know what else to listen to.
C
Yeah.
B
And that was yesterday. I was like, I don't know what to start, and I feel like I'm a little bit in of a reading funk. So I was like, you know what? I am in the middle of this series. I'll. I'll start it. I kind of know what's going on. No, I didn't know what was going on, but. And then the fourth one was the second Death of Locke by V. E. Bolioni. I don't know.
A
Bologna.
B
Unless I spelled it wrong, it could be something very different. I did not start that one.
A
I was gonna ask you if you
B
read that, because I didn't. I didn't. Not yet. I. We had a really heavy book club episode, like, really big. And then we also had a heavier Patreon book club book for February, so I just didn't get the chance to. I literally read four books in February, so I just didn't get the chance to read that one. I will be reading that probably this month.
A
So.
B
Yeah. Oh, the last one.
A
Play Along.
B
Ah, Loved that one. Ah, this is so fun.
A
So what was your favorite,
B
probably? Oh, definitely Play Along. I was like. I was looking at my list and I was like, yep, Play along was my favorite.
A
My man.
B
Play along by Liz Tom Fordy. I just blanked on her name.
A
I just. I find it so funny that we waited that long for us to read that series and we're obsessed. Yeah. So I'm kind of glad I waited actually, to really enjoy it. So.
B
Well, her last book, her Wind It Back, didn't come out that long ago.
A
I think it was like a year ago.
B
Yeah.
A
So I'm like, it really wasn't bad. We didn't have to wait.
B
We were lucky that we didn't have a waiting period, you know, so.
C
And she has another book coming out this year, California Sports.
A
It's gonna be like a. I'm so excited.
C
Wilder Woods.
A
There's a. There's. There's a TV show, One Tree Hill. Where are they talking about One Tree Hill? Anyways? It's gonna be so good in California.
B
Oh, Kennedy, update us on your okay. Winter tbr.
A
I did read all five of my books from my Winter tbr. Were they good picks? Some yes, others no. So one of my first picks for my Winter TBR was the Devils by Joe Abercrombie. It was fine. I just don't know if Joe Abercrombie is the writer. For me. The premise was there, there's a priest and he's sent on this mission and he's like this holy guy. Turns out the people that are going with him on this mission are unholy people. So you have a werewolf, a vampire, a witch, something. Anyway, kind of reminded me of Suicide Squad, honestly. There's a lot of humor, but he has a lot more character development and it's very character driven. But I feel, I think for my fantasy books, I like for it to be maybe a little bit more plot driven. So there were a lot of parts that I liked about it, some parts I didn't like. I rated it 3 1/2 stars, so it was okay. And then I read the Society of Unknowable Objects by Gareth Brown. It's the follow up book to the Book of Doors.
C
Oh, I didn't know there was a follow up book.
A
Technically they stand on their own, but there is there are they interconnected a few times. And if you don't read the Book of Doors before, it does kind of get spoiled for you.
C
Okay.
A
It's set in like the same universe slash world. There's these people, the society of unknowable objects that are protecting these objects from bad people. And they all have power. Like these objects have powers. It was good. I didn't connect to the characters very well as well as I did for the Book of Doors. And I think because I liked the Book of Doors so much, I had high expectations for this and it fell Flat a little bit. It also was lot more violent. The main. I should know this because I have a book podcast. Protagonist. Antagonist. Right. Antagonist is bad guy. The main antagonist is like not well. And it's pretty. It was honestly kind of violent. So I can't remember what I rated that I think three and a half stars maybe. And then I read and now Back to youo by BK Borison. And it was so fun. You're just two weather people. They're sent out to cover a storm. Cute. There's just. It's very trope filled, you know, forced proximity, only one bed, rivals to lovers. Good banter. PK writes very good banter. So I feel like you know exactly what you're getting with her books. I think I settled and decided I like this one more than first time caller. First time caller. Yeah. I don't know why I think the main character reminded me of my husband because he's got kind of these quirky things about him and things have to be done a certain way and he's very routine, driven. Reminds me a lot of my husband. So I enjoyed it. And the female main character is the exact opposite of that. So it was really fun to see their dynamic. And then I read from Blood and Ash. Jennifer.
B
What?
A
Army Trout.
B
L. Army Trout.
A
Yeah, it was fine. If I would have read this three years ago, I would have loved it. But you pick it up. If you ever pick it up, Reggie, you're know exactly where it's going. Yeah, that's why I haven't picked it up. And also, the entire time I was kind of wondering, where are the vampires? I thought this was Vampire Story. Yeah.
B
Everyone was like. I think you guys were like, it's vampires. I was like, is it?
C
That's what I thought it was.
A
Was it all.
B
Yes.
A
Yes.
B
Yeah.
A
Finally you're like, oh, vampires. But it's very.
B
It's a lot more.
A
I don't want to say religion driven. But the main character is. I can't remember what they call her. She's like an acolyte. Right.
B
Yeah. I should know this. She's called the Maiden.
A
Yeah, it's. It's a lot more like real underlying religious tones, almost kind of. I'm not comparing the books, but you know how Night and Moth kind of has that religious undertone? It's kind of similar to that. Ish.
B
Kind of.
A
Anyways, she covers her face. Yeah. But anyways, fun. The ending reeled me back in and I'll eventually start the next one. I don't know when, but I will and then the star of my winter tbr, no surprise to me, was a man called Uwe by Fredrik Backman. I loved this book so much, you guys. It's no secret that I love Fredrik Backman. I think honestly, this was probably if someone came to me and asked, I want to read Fredrik Backman. Where should I start? I think I would recommend this book. Uwe is just this grumpy old man, but the way he talks about his wife is the sweetest thing ever. There were so many little romantic things that I thought were so, so adorable. And then you also have all the things that I love about Fredrik Backman's writing. You know, leave his books feeling like humanity is not doomed. And you also leave his books. I feel like a better human after reading them. It's just so good. And I'm so glad I didn't watch the movie before. I still haven't watched the movie, but maybe track trigger warnings before you read this book, because there's something that happens at the beginning of the book that I didn't know happens which could be triggering for some people. So just be aware of that. I feel like, honestly, all of his books should come with trigger warnings, to be honest. And I know a lot of people don't love his writing because they kind of think he relies on these not heavy topics, but things that are pretty jarring to have an emotional impact, which I can understand, but it works for me. So love that book. Rated it 5 stars. Sobbed like a baby at the end, as per usual.
B
So love that. Love.
A
Now I just need to watch the movie. It's not going to compare, but I'm really excited to watch it.
B
I've heard great things about the movie, I think, but I don't know if people have seen like read the book beforehand.
A
I think that because you.
B
You know what happens, don't you? I think so.
A
Have you seen the movie? Read the book, I think, before you watch the movie. But I'm sure the movie's great. I just love him so much. He's just, ugh. He's like the guy on the Old man on Up.
C
Yeah, he reminds me of him.
B
Love that.
A
Yeah. So love, love it. Should we get into our spring TBRs? Yes. Hey, Reggie, you want to go first?
C
I sure do. Let's start with my first book is a new release. I feel like I always have to kind of pick a new release sometimes because I want something that I'm looking forward to. I feel that, you know. So mine is Our Perfect Storm by Carly Fortune.
A
Yes.
C
I'M very excited. Carly Fortune, I mean, she set the bar pretty high with One Golden Summer.
B
Yeah.
C
This book follows, actually.
A
It's in a new universe.
C
Right.
A
Or is it in the same.
C
No.
B
When does it come out?
C
May 5th.
B
May 5th.
A
Okay.
C
I think it is actually in a new universe because it doesn't say. It's part of the.
A
The COVID The cover's purple. Yeah.
C
Purple.
B
Stormy.
A
Yeah.
C
It's not part of like the Barry's Bay books.
A
Yeah.
C
But, you know, anyways, this book, from what I know about it, sounds really fun because to me it sounds like it's going to be like a friends to lovers situation, which I always love.
A
Those cute.
C
And basically, from what I've understood, the female main character is getting married. Her best friend, a man, is supposed to be her best man at her wedding, confesses his love for her. And so then it says at the start of the festivities of the wedding. Wedding. Wedding festivities. In walks George.
A
George.
C
One glorious evening, surrounded by her loved ones. Her life is finally perfect. But it all comes crashing down when her fiance dumps her the next morning.
A
But.
C
So she's crashed. Says so. Crushed and confused, she returns to her family's home to wallow. But her friend George. Why do we have a name George?
A
George.
C
George has a different idea and a plan for healing her broken heart.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
So it sounds like a little bit of a vacation vibe. Let's pick up your broken heart. Her best man's gonna. Anyways, I don't know.
B
I'm a big fan of that.
A
Yeah, yeah, I like it.
B
I like that premise.
C
Yeah, it sounds like something I'm gonna just gobble up.
A
So she's gotta have a shoulder to lean on. So she's gonna lean on George's shoulder. I don't know how I feel about George. George.
C
She's gonna have some sort of nickname
A
for him, you know, Georgie.
C
I don't know, but her name is Frankie. Frankie and George. It's kind of cute.
B
I like Frankie. Yeah, I just read a book.
A
Are they 90?
B
Frankie?
C
Nope. Maybe they are plot twists. No, you can't get ages wrong on the podcast, guys,
B
she's gonna call him G or Geo or what's his last name?
A
Does it say his last name? No, she calls him by his last name.
B
Geo. I like Geo. I'm manifesting Geo.
A
Just call him J. J.
B
What's up?
A
That sounds really cute. That sounds very.
C
Yeah, yeah. So I'm looking forward to the fortune.
B
She is making her way to the top of my author. I don't think she's come up with come out with enough books for her to be like top tier. But like, I have thoroughly enjoyed most every single book she has written.
A
So she's like. She's one of those authors that I'll read within a few weeks that her books come out. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
B
You know when you're really into a book and the last thing you want to do is stop and make food. That's been us a time or two.
C
So we've been keeping G2G bars around because they're just an easy on the go snack. They're really high in protein. They're made with simple ingredients and honestly perfect when you need something quick. But don't want to interrupt a reading binge.
A
I've been grabbing one right before I leave for a walk with my dogs while listening to an audiobook. It's just the easiest snack to throw in my bag.
B
If you want to try them, you can grab them at g2gbar.com and use code readers. R E A D E R s for a 15% off discount.
C
Hit your protein goal and your reading goal with G2G bar. You're up.
B
Me, I feel like I have to put this one because my FOMO is through the roof. Is in. In her own league. Oh, yeah. You got. Yeah.
C
Yeah.
B
I just don't know. I don't have credits to listen to it. So I gotta. I gotta wait until.
A
When is your Spotify hours reset?
B
I don't know. I need to look.
A
Yeah.
B
Because I used it all for
A
strength of the few.
C
Yeah.
A
Oh, well, whenever you get to it, it's a. It's very fun.
B
I'm excited. I'll get to it eventually.
A
Monty, I'm spring.
B
You know.
A
That's a good spring spring book.
B
Yeah. Baseball.
A
What is it called?
B
Spring. Spring training is going on right now. Really fun. Yeah.
A
You gotta be back in the windy city. Yeah. They're just like a little warm hug. Which you guys realize that's set before rewind it back. Makes sense. Yeah.
C
Love.
B
I'm excited for you to read it, love.
A
I haven't finished it yet, but it's. It's very fun.
C
I finished it this morning.
A
I will forever look at my bathroom. I'll forever look at my bathroom and think of Reese and Monty. Because I painted my bathroom while listening to it. And every time I look at my office wall, I think of empire storms.
B
Oh, wow.
A
Wow. Yeah.
C
Sentimental.
A
The sand. Couldn't get the sand out. Okay, Sorry.
C
All right.
A
My first book on my March. Not March, this is spring Sorry. This was for my March TBR video for Patreon. But my mom, long story short, I had people in my life pick books for me to read for March. My mom picked Tuesdays with Mori by Mitch Albom. So that's going to be on my spring TBR. It's a softball. It's 210 pages.
C
I can't believe you've never read that.
B
I know.
A
I've never read it. My mom bought it for me in high school and I was like, I'm not reading that.
C
There was a class I had in high school that I had to read. I think it was like social psychology or something.
A
Yeah, I never read it. So.
C
Great book.
A
I'm excited to read it. A guy rekindles his relationship with his mentor. His mentor is diagnosed with als, and so there you go. So easy. But I have to read it anyways. And sometimes. Yeah. And sometimes, like, I just want to cry, you know?
C
Yeah, you probably will.
A
Yeah, I probably will. Because I cry over everything. So I think I cry at least once a day. So.
B
God, once a day.
C
Crier crying is healthy.
A
I don't know if every day is healthy.
B
Maybe I need to go, you know? Anyways.
A
Okay. Reggie.
B
Yep.
C
All right. Since I loved so Before I Let Go was my first Kennedy Ryan book. And then I saw someone was reading, I think it was Sarah Caroly is currently reading this. And I was like, oh, that's a Kennedy Ryan book. I've heard this one. I clicked on it and I'm like, how have I not heard of this one? This is right up my alley. Is it rock star Real? No. Is she the one called Rockstar?
B
I don't know.
A
I just thought it was going to be a Rockstar moment. I don't know why it's called Real.
C
It's about a Broadway actress who has a chance at stardom when. Yeah, she's cast by a Hollywood director.
B
What is it? How do you spell real?
C
R, E, E, L. Okay, that sounds good. So the role of her dreams might just cost her the love of a lifetime. So. Yeah. Oh, it's in a Broadway actress, Famous film. Film director. Yeah. Is there a different cover for this book?
A
Oh, there is, yeah. The one that popped up. Yeah, the one that popped up I was not vibing with, but that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyways, I'm sorry, let me. I don't like real people on covers before someone comes for me and says,
C
oh, what cover is that that you're looking at?
A
I don't know, but it's Like a picture of real people. Yeah, it's like the. The Fabio era photos. Anyways, I'm sorry.
C
Didn't it come out recently, though? Or am I crazy? I thought it was like 2024.
A
Maybe it was republished. Cause it's saying it was published in 2021.
C
Okay. Yeah. Cause, like, now I'm. When I search it, I see that cover. Hmm.
B
The new cover is beautiful.
A
Okay. It must have been picked up by a different publisher because it. The new cover is published in February 27, 2024. This cover is stunning. I will say Kennedy Ryan has really great covers. Like, Before I Let Go has a beautiful cover.
C
It is a real person, though.
B
Frick.
C
Unless I'm thinking of a different cover. Like the one with, like, the butterflies and the flowers. Like this. Yeah.
B
With that one.
A
I don't know why. I know.
C
It's still cute, though.
A
I just think that one's really pretty. Yeah.
C
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it because love me some Hollywood, love me some Broadway.
B
You could do long shot.
A
See, once again, I don't. It's the.
B
The series is called Hoops.
C
Hoops.
A
Yeah. I don't like that cover either.
B
I don't. Staring at your soul.
C
See, and then the second book to the griot is called Score. So that one's about. It's a second chance romance with a screenwriter and a musician.
A
That sounds lovely. So.
C
So I just think I'm in for a good time.
A
I think Kennedy Ryan's books typically are more mature people as well.
C
And it comes out. The Score hasn't come out yet. It comes out May 2020. Yeah, May.
A
Oh, you could read both.
C
So maybe I'll report back on both.
B
I don't think I've read.
C
I'm giddy about that.
A
Yeah. Her characters are just very mature, well adjusted, and I really enjoy it. Yeah, that does. That does sound pretty good.
B
Yeah.
A
So.
B
All right. Oh, it's me again.
A
Okay.
B
Some of these I might regret later. I don't know. I didn't really put a lot of thought into me neither. I just like. Yep. I'm adding this. I feel like last for winter. I really tried to put, like, thought into it. No, maybe I didn't. It's the Everlasting by Alex E. I don't know if I'm gonna get to
A
it, but, you know, standalone.
B
I'm intrigued. Standalone is perfect. I didn't know that.
A
Yeah. It's standalone. Beautiful. Yep.
B
I'm gonna read it.
A
I think I'm gonna read it. Right.
B
Isn't it?
A
I Think it's a standalone. Let me see. Hold on.
B
Oh, you added long shots to your.
C
I just did.
B
I love it.
A
Yeah, I think it's a standalone.
B
Okay, perfect. I've heard a lot of mixed things, so I'm gonna go into it with absolutely no knowledge of it besides the COVID being absolutely beautiful.
A
I think I tried to read another
B
book by her once and I was
A
not in the mood for it. It was like a magical house or something interesting. But I am really excited to read that. Eventually I would like to read that. Okay, I'm going to choose like Michaela. I may regret some of my decisions, but I have been meaning to read this book for probably six months now. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson.
B
Oh.
A
Somehow some ways where he wiggles his way onto my tbrs. I've heard from some people that it's.
B
It's just good.
A
It's just a good standalone. I wanted a standalone fantasy book on my spring TBR because I don't feel like I've been reading enough fantasy outside of maybe some of the books we pick for book club. So I'm gonna make my way back into fantasy with Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. It's a thick book. It's so thick.
B
You got it. You got it.
A
But you know, it's on Hoopla. I'll have the audio, I'll have the physical copy and I'm on the waitlist on Libby for the Kindle version. So hopefully I like it. Might put me into a reading slump. I think it's something about a princess.
C
I don't know.
B
I have no idea what it's about.
A
I'm not gonna lie. I think it's two sister princesses or something. I don't. It's not that enough. I think you. You got it. I mean, for a slow paced journey on that one. I. I know.
C
Then payoff will probably be worth it.
A
Yeah.
B
Hoopla pretty much has all of his books.
A
I know I'm.
C
Which is great.
A
He's great. Don't get me wrong. I just have to be really in the mood for his style of writing.
B
I get it.
A
So I figure if I put it on there, it's going to push me to read it. And eventually one day maybe I'll read the Way of Kings, maybe not.
B
You'll get there. I know you will.
A
Maybe when I'm 50. Okay, you're up.
C
Okay. This is like the one I have on my list that I am worried about because it is fantasy. And I honestly just kind of picked a random one that's on my tbr. And one that I think there's only supposed to be three books. And the third book comes out this year, so I'm like, maybe this is a safe bet. Maybe there's more than three. But even if it is more than three, I'm confident they all come out pretty quickly because the first one came out, I'm pretty sure, last year. Direbound.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
You guys seem really excited for.
B
No, I. I really am. It is a thick book. It's huge.
A
Wait, show me the COVID again.
B
I know what you're talking about. I have the physical book. How many pages is it?
A
Maybe. Can you show me the COVID again? I'm kind of forgetting.
C
What's this one? Oh, it doesn't say how many pages it is.
A
That's alarming.
B
I have the actual book, and it's as big as a brother bribes in book.
A
I'm going to Google diagram page 0 pages.
B
Hold on, hold on.
C
Hold your horse. Okay, you got it.
A
Hit me with it.
B
I think it's like 600, 700 pages.
A
Says the paperback is 608 pages.
C
That's not terrible. How many pages is the next one? All right, cool. I was also hoping to start Mistborn this spring. Maybe I'll just push it off another season.
B
No, I. I mean, I've heard really great things. I think I've been intimidated because of
C
actually, the second book, 600 pages as well, comes out May 5th, and then book three comes out November 30th.
B
That's not bad.
A
That's not bad at all.
C
So, yeah, it's just really hard because there's so many fantasy books. I feel like there's a lot of older ones that I just haven't picked them up because I'm either intimidated by them or. Or I'm just worried I'm not gonna like it. And so that's why I haven't started them. And then there's these newer books that are getting a lot of hype and lots of really amazing reviews. But then I don't want to wait forever for the next books, so I'm feeling like that's a good one for me to pick. So, yeah, it's about a girl who's going to save her sister. I think there's some trials involved, some wolves.
B
Werewolves.
C
I don't know. It says the wolves something. So, you know, I like a good story about some sisters and wolves.
A
I don't know. Okay.
C
Anyway,
A
how many sister wolves stories have you speaking?
C
Acotar sisters and a wolf that came to My brain.
A
Okay, that makes more sense.
B
I was like, what?
A
So, anywho, I think you'll enjoy it. I feel like I see good things about it on TikTok, so. But it is true. I think that's why I haven't read fantasy too, because I don't want to commit to series that aren't finished. But then all the older ones, it's like, yeah, it's either 17 books or
C
also diary bound is like a dark fantasy. So we'll see how I feel about that. I'm pretty sure you report the description.
B
Says 4th Wing meets the Hunger Games in the spicy page turner. Romantasy.
A
So there's dragons. I don't know.
C
Yeah, the reviews.
A
I'm gonna let you read the first one, and then maybe I'll put it on my winter TBR once all of them are out.
C
You know, I've just heard people also say it's unlike anything they've read, which is fun. So that makes me feel a little more excited about it because I don't like a lot of these books that feel copy and paste.
B
Yeah.
C
But maybe. I don't know. We'll see.
A
I hope it's worse. Maybe the pet wolves.
C
You know, the synopsis was really long, and sometimes I kind of just want to go into a blind.
A
Yeah, that's okay. I respect that. I respect into it.
C
I respect you. Thanks, guys.
B
Thanks.
A
All right, what's your next one, Michaela?
B
It is. I don't. This was literally so, like, left field choice. I don't really know much about this, but a lot of people have said it's similar to the Windy City, so Consider Me by Becca Mack.
A
Ooh. Okay. Is it sports?
B
I have no idea. Okay, all right, everyone, just. Well, when we posted about it on our TikTok, some people were commenting and saying that. Let me. It's on Hoopla. Let's see. Let me see what the actual, like, official series is called. Like the. Yeah, you know how it's on Windy City series? Yeah. Oh, it's called Playing for Keeps series.
A
I hope that's sports romance. Then I know exactly. I know what the covers look like. They're like, why does everything have to be hockey?
B
I don't know. Let's see what the.
C
They're like.
A
Aren't they just watercolor and then it says the title in the center. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
This one's also hockey.
A
Give me a soccer romance. Give me a pickleball.
B
Oh, this one's a soccer. Oh, third one's soccer.
A
Oh,
B
fourth one. Is it Says ice. So I'm guessing maybe they're ice. Ice skaters starting fights on the ice, that's why.
A
What do you mean?
C
Totally.
A
Dude. Wait, the goalie playing for Keith.
B
Probably goalie for like hockey. Not a goalie for soccer.
A
Oh, hockey goalie.
B
I think they're all hockey.
A
Let me just ask this question. Why are the majority of sports romance? Maybe I just don't know enough. Enough other sports romances, But I swear, 90% of them are hockey.
B
It started with. What's that movie called? Based on the true story where they won the gold medal against Canada. Oh, yeah. I'm guessing it started with what the freak is that called?
C
I don't know what you're talking about. I can only think of heated rivalry.
A
I know, exactly.
C
Heated rivalry.
A
And it's. It's like it was circling through my brain.
B
I keep wanting to say remember the Titans?
A
But that's a football one.
C
Yeah.
A
I don't know.
B
Oh, gory. Nope.
C
Oh, like a movie.
A
Something's glory. It's glory in the title. It's not Blades of Glory. That's the one with feral
C
hockey.
B
Corey. It's about them winning the gold medal against Canada and miracle. Miracle.
A
That's right. No glory in it.
B
And yeah, you know that.
A
That's what.
B
I'm guessing it all started.
A
Maybe.
B
I just feel like hockey is. It's a big deal right now. I feel like it's all the rage
A
and I wish it was something.
C
I don't think it's going to die down.
A
No, I don't.
C
Off campus. Well.
B
And we also just. The US Just won.
C
Yeah. And that was the first time rivalry season two is going to be coming. Then you also have. I want to say there's another hockey one being adapted.
A
Oh, listen, I'm all for. I'm all for it. Okay. Love Heat of Rivalry. Haven't read off campus. Maybe I'll watch the show. I don't know. But can we get other sports, please? I would love it.
C
I need the wittiest Windy City series, even though there's California hockey in that.
A
But, like, I need the California.
C
Give me the basketball.
B
I honestly feel like. I don't know why this makes sense to me, but I feel like filming hockey would be easier than filming. What, like soccer or like basketball? Because if you think about stadiums. Yeah. You would have to have a lot of filler. But I feel like with hockey, you really don't.
A
Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. I'm not going to be getting rice
B
rings, you know, Is probably easier than getting, like, basketball arenas.
C
Yeah. Like a baseball diamond.
A
Yeah, that's.
B
I'm just assuming right now.
A
I don't know.
B
We'll see if I, like, consider me. People said it gives you similar feels as the Windy City series. I am not gonna say it's better because I love that series, but I'm gonna.
A
I'm gonna.
B
I'm gonna go into it with an open mind.
A
Well, maybe it's similar in the sense I. I really think it's fine if it's hockey.
B
Okay.
A
I was joking. Not really. I did like the Windy City series because it was different sports. But also, I think what's so special about that series is just the found family, the fact that they're all so close.
B
The dynamic.
A
The dynamic is what I think makes it so great. So maybe that's what that will have.
B
Yeah.
C
Nice.
A
Okay, my next book on my TBR was inspired by Brady Lockerbie. She was reading this and sparked my interest. Sure. It's called this book made me think of you by Libby Page.
B
That's on my march tbr.
A
Oh, no way. So, for those of you that don't know this, I have to tell you the synopsis, because the synopsis sold me. Do you know the synopsis? Nope. Do you want to know it?
B
Sure.
A
Okay. So Tilly Nightingale receives a call telling her there's a birthday gift from her fiance at her local bookshop. But she's shocked because her fiance died five months ago. Sad. The gift is 12 carefully chosen books from Jo, one for each month to help her turn the page on her first year without him.
B
I'm unwell. Are you kidding me? I wish I didn't know that.
A
Tilly sets out on a series of reading, inspired reading, inspired adventures that take her around the world. She begins to vlog her journey, and then she gets help from Alfie, the bookshop owner. I'm crying. Can Tilly's Year of Books show her how to love again? So I don't know if her fiance had a terminal illness. I'm not sure. Yeah, I read the synopsis, and I said I'm absolutely sold. So I don't know if it's a. I can't quite tell. Brady said it's a romance book, so I don't know if she's falling in love with the bookstore owner. I don't know.
B
Falling in love with herself.
A
Guys, imagine. Receipt. Okay. Your husband's alive. Okay, let's not add the dead part. Just imagine if Your husband picked 12 books for you to read throughout the Year and wrote a little note inside each of them and just said, I picked this book because of this ultimate birthday gift. Yeah. Send this to your husbands or your significant others.
B
Just send it. Just, like, slowly. Hey, I think you should read this book. Not because I think you should do this, but I think you should read this book for me. Yep. Yep.
A
Yeah.
B
That's really sweet.
A
Yeah. So I'm really excited about that.
B
Well, on that depressing note, I'm gonna cry.
C
Okay, cool. All right. I don't know if you guys have ever heard of this one. So I saw this on my for you page one time, and everyone in the comments was like, this book is genius. And I was on the edge of my seat, and I'm challenging myself to read some more thrillers this year. I wouldn't necessarily.
A
Maybe it'.
C
More. I guess it falls under the thriller realm, but it's more of a court drama.
B
Okay.
C
So technically, it's book five in a series. But you don't have to read. You can. It stands on its own. Because I want to say each book is like a different crime.
B
Court case.
C
Like. Or Court case. Yeah, Court session. So basically, like the. The COVID of the. So it's called 5050 by Steve Kavanaugh. And the. The blurb on the book, it says, two sisters on trial for murder. Both accuse each other. Who do you believe?
B
Oh, that sounds really interesting. So.
C
Looks really interesting because. And everyone in the reviews is saying that, like, they flew through the book because you're trying to guess the whole book, like, which sister did it? And so lots of little plot twists and.
A
Yeah.
C
Raving reviews about it. So it just sounds like something that I may be in the mood for, like a good palette cleanser. And I wanted to pick up. Since I'm challenging myself to read more thrillers, I wanted to pick something up that I knew was going to keep my interest. So we'll see if it actually does. But according to these reviews, it just might. So have you guys heard of the 13 or just 13?
A
I mean, I've heard of the 13.
C
I think that's just 13. Sorry. Apparently, the book before this one is his most popular, and it's about a serial killer who. He isn't on trial. He's on the jury. Ooh.
A
Yeah. Okay, I have a question. So you know that perfect moment where you have a good book but nowhere to be? Yeah. That right there, that is my happy place.
B
And lately we've been spending it wrapped up in our minky couture blankets.
C
Whether I'm reading Late into the night or just pretending to read while I'm scrolling. Book talk. My minky keeps me cozy through it all.
A

C
Because every good reader deserves the best blanket.
B
Is there a reason why you don't want to, like, start with one or is it just because, like five intrigued you the most?
C
Honestly, I think it's because it intrigued me the most. I thought I would make. I almost picked the fourth one. Okay, 13. But the reviews on 5050 just seemed a little more interesting to me.
A
Okay.
C
So no judgment. I mean, I could.
A
Yeah.
C
From what I've understood, you can read any of the books in the series. The series is just. Is called Eddie Flynn. I think he's the lawyer. The lawyer.
A
Okay, so he's Saul Goodman. Really? Yeah, maybe. But. Yeah.
C
So that's why, I don't know, maybe give me permission to switch if I decide I want to go. No, read the fourth one. But I don't know, everyone said that you don't have to read them in a specific, so.
B
Yeah, that sounds really interesting.
A
That sounds really. Yeah. I think I need different. I feel like when it comes to thrillers, I like the ones that aren't as popular, more than popular ones. Because I think when a thriller gets really popular, I have a certain expectation for it to be wild. And then when it doesn't, it makes me sad. Yeah. But if it's a lesser known thriller, then I feel like I go into one also.
C
Like two sisters being accused of murder on trial sounds a little less daunting to me than a serial killer on the jury. Like, I'm a little more scared since I haven't read from this author before. I'm like, I'm a little scared to read about this serial killer. You know what I'm saying?
A
Yeah. I'm here for it.
C
So the sister seems a little more safe to me.
A
So we'll see. You're kind of reminding me that I want to continue reading the John Mars
B
books that I started a little while ago. Yeah, like the techno thriller, you know, hot take. I think I liked the one better than the Passengers.
A
I think it had more of a crazy ending.
C
Which one?
A
The one.
B
The one?
A
Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. The one definitely kept Your attention because the passengers was literally just eight people in a car. And there wasn't really much to do outside of that, you know, but it was.
B
It was still good. But maybe also because I read the one first. Right.
A
You're supposed to. Yeah, yeah.
B
Didn't you read the Passengers First?
A
No.
B
Oh, just kidding.
A
I. I think part of the reason I haven't continued is I don't know what one I'm supposed to read next because it used to be in order on Goodreads, and then they took a. They took it off, I think. So. Anyways, sorry, I didn't mean to steal your thunder about the thriller. That sounds really good. Sounds like Law and Order meets Better Call Saul. Maybe so. All right. Mikayla.
B
Okay. This is just like a given, you know?
A
I know where this is going.
B
The Light We Met by Abby Jimenez.
A
Oh, screaming.
B
I'm really excited.
A
I.
B
The thing is, I don't know the synopsis at all. Does this one have an age gap?
A
I have literally no idea.
C
I don't know. What is the synopsis of this book?
A
I'll go look.
B
I feel like with Abby Jimenez, you, like, kind of know what you're getting.
A
Yeah, for sure.
B
Like, in different fonts, you know, so. Not necessarily that I need to know. I swear. Abby Jimenez, like, posted something about, like, doing something different, but I can't remember what.
A
Of course there's a dog.
B
Of course, a dog. The book.
A
Oh, it's a. I don't know if it's an age gap. Do you want to know the trope?
B
What?
A
From the synopsis, it sounds like it's boyfriend's best friend.
B
Oh, wait. Yeah, I think that's what she said.
A
Not brother's best friend. Boyfriend's best friend.
B
Yeah, I think that's what I saw her, like, post about on Tick Tock.
A
Anyways, it's gonna be good. I mean, like you said, it's so cute.
B
I don't know. The thing is, I hope with that trope specifically, it's done tastefully.
A
Yeah. I just hope there's no cheating. Yes. You know, yes. Yes. I, I, I put full trust in Abby.
B
I think she'll do it.
A
Well. Yeah, she'll do. She'll do it justice.
B
I mean, that's really. That's probably fun, though. Like a different. Because I feel like she's unlike, kind
A
of like
B
not enemies to lovers, but, like, wove, like rival rivals. Done. Friends, strangers to lovers. You know, forced proximity.
A
Best friend, though. Anyways, Exciting. Yeah, it sounds exciting. Live, laugh, love. Abby Jimenez forever. Okay.
B
Live Laugh love.
A
Live, Laugh, love. I am going to Michaela. Just read this. And I needed a fifth book on my tbr, and I decided, sure, why not?
B
Whatever I'm gonna read. Wouldn't that be your fourth?
A
Oh, on my list. It's my fifth.
B
Oh.
A
But I. I had. I had four, and I needed another one, so I just added this one. Okay.
B
Sorry.
A
No, I can see why that was.
B
I was like, I can see why that's.
A
Did we already say it? No. I'm gonna read the Women by Kristin Hannah
C
Kennedy wants to cry this spring.
A
I guess. I. I don't know what it's about. Women in a War. Vietnam War, I think right now, Mikayla said this is her favorite book that she's read by Kristin Hannah, Right?
B
I think so. I think I might be a little biased, though, because I read the Nightingale so long ago.
A
You want to know what's funny is I've only. I read the Nightingale, the Alaska one, The Great Alone. That's it, right? Yeah. I liked the Great Alone. More so while the Nightingale is her most popular book, I think, and a lot of people talk about it, it's not. Yeah. It's not my favorite. So I'm excited to read this. Yeah. I'm also really excited for the Nightingale movie because it comes out this year, doesn't it?
B
No, the beginning of next year.
A
The beginning of next year. Yeah.
B
I think it's, like, January 2027.
A
The Fanning sisters.
B
I know.
C
Guys, iconic.
A
Guys.
B
Iconic.
A
We got. Oh, take our tissues. I'm so excited.
B
But yeah.
A
Yeah. I think I just want to read more of hers. It's funny because when I read the Nightingale, I almost wonder if I read the Nightingale now, if I would enjoy it more because I had such a bad taste in my mouth for historical fiction. And I feel like now I enjoy
B
it a little bit more.
A
I think I could appreciate it more,
B
but I think so, too. I just feel like even though her books are fiction, I feel like I learned so much and. Because obviously you'll find this out in the author's note, but this book she took 10 years to write.
A
That's insane.
B
And so I think it's because she wants to be, like, as accurate as possible and not, like, misconstruing anything. And, like, obviously the characters are fiction, but I think she wanted to, like, make sure that events that happened were very accurate. So it was just like a. You know, her books are very, like, somber, and.
A
I don't know.
B
You just. You learn a lot.
A
So I think it helps you Appreciate your life. And also I feel like it helps appreciate times that I don't fully understand because I wasn't alive.
B
Yeah.
A
And I think it's important, especially how the topic she writes about. I think it's important that she takes so much time and care. So she gets me every time, man. So I am gonna be crying this spring.
B
I'm a little nervous for you.
A
Oh, no. Like, what's it. What is it about, like, sister? Not sisters, just, like, women in the Vietnam War.
B
It's. The main character is Frankie.
A
Oh, my God. Another Frankie?
B
Yes. Her real name's Frankel, but they call her Frankie. Her brother enlists. I'll just kind of say a little bit. Her. They live in Coronado island, and
C
her
B
family has, like, this wall, and they call it the hero's wall. And it's like, relatives and stuff that have, like, served in wars and stuff. And her brother enlists for the Vietnam War, and she also decides that, like, she has a conversation with someone, and the person was like, women can be heroes, too. And then she decides to sign up for the Vietnam War as a nurse.
A
Oh, no.
B
So.
A
Oh, no. Yeah.
B
I already have tears in my eyes. Look up. Trigger warnings.
A
Nope, I'm not gonna. I'm just gonna go do it.
B
Not you, but
A
other people.
B
Like, I'm literally. I don't know if I would recommend you read this.
A
Oh, great.
C
I know exactly where that's going.
A
Cool. All right, sweet.
C
So taking it off my. Want to read?
A
Just kidding.
B
Oh, you just have to really be in the right headspace for it.
A
Yeah. So did you cry?
B
Yes.
A
Because here's the thing.
B
If Michaela cried, I'm gonna, like, really teary. I remember exactly where I was. I was on a walk.
C
Great.
B
And I think I was like, everyone driving their cars, but, like, something's wrong with her. No, I was like, I just gotta get home. I just gotta get home. Anyways, it was. I don't know. I just really. As much as I don't like saying I enjoy her books, like, I do, the way she writes them. Just like, I was talking to my husband about them. Sorry, this is such a long tangent, but he. She. He was like, it's probably really fun for you to read books like that because you're learning things. It's like almost reading a history book, but there's a fictional element added to us.
A
So I don't know if I'm excited anymore, but it's on my tbr.
B
It's really freaking good. It's so good.
A
I mean, I'M gonna start it after in her own league. So I'm gonna be off a high and then I'm gonna be an exact opposite low.
B
Very different vibes for sure.
C
Well, along the same lines of crying. I have a feeling this book will make me cry. Kennedy will tell me if it will because she's read it. Honestly, the reason I picked it was because it is a shorter book. I just went with the shortest book on my most recently added to my tbr. And you know, you need an emotional gut punch every once in a while. Maybe it's not that emotional. The Bright Ears by Sarah. Oh, Demo Damif.
A
I cried.
C
Yeah, but that's not saying much. It's one channel. A little bit. Yeah, Yeah, I, I, I have my thoughts. Okay. I have my suspicions. One family, four generations. A secret son, a devastating addiction. The Texas family met with losses and surprises of inheritance.
A
Yeah.
C
Anyways, a big hearted family saga, I guess seemed.
A
I think you might cry.
B
I think I love how we gauge. Like I think.
C
Here's the thing. If anyone says, reggie, you're gonna cry, I usually can tell that there's kids involved. And so I just know I gotta really buckle up.
A
I think, I think, I think part of the, the reason I.
C
It's okay. You don't have to say anything if you don't want to.
A
I don't know how much you want to know. I think you might cry.
C
Okay.
A
I remember. It's funny because sometimes I can't fully remember plots, but I can remember where I am when I like read certain books. Yeah. Like I remember I was. Anyways, it doesn't matter. I remember where I was when I finished this book. I'm not gonna say where.
B
The beach. No. So it does start with a B. The bathroom. Yeah.
A
And I was crying on the toilet. On the toilet. I'm so sorry.
B
That's tmi.
A
But yeah.
B
I thought you were telling me today that you don't sit on the toilet for too long and you try to just.
A
Okay, okay. I did finish that book and I was crying. I do remember that. I also remember sitting in the doctor's office reading it. And then I had to stop because I started crying in the doctor's office. But once again, I'm a ball baby and I feel like I cry over everything. So I'm gonna like the COVID I'm gonna say like 50, 50 chance you cry.
C
Okay.
A
It's about generational trauma.
B
50, 50.
A
And it's just like one of those books that you leave and you're like, you learn you learn about people.
C
It's like less than 300 pages, and it's a beautiful cover. And a lot of people I know that have read it really liked it. Are you.
A
Are you gonna physically read it or listen to it?
C
Let's be real. Probably if I start physically reading it, I'll eventually be listening to it. That's just kind of how the cycle goes.
A
I feel like it's a better book to be read because it is so short. Yeah. And I don't feel like it packs as much of a punch if you listen to it. But
C
should I take it with me on my trip?
A
I mean, you could literally finish it on an airplane ride.
C
Okay, perfect. Perfect. I'll see you on the planet.
A
And honestly, like, sometimes it's therapeutic to cry on the plane, so I've done this. Really?
B
I'm shocked.
A
I finished Morningstar on a plane.
C
Kennedy's on a lot of planes. She's a jet setter.
B
Yeah. Let me tell you.
C
Okay. All right. Yeah.
A
All right. I support that. I'm excited for you to read that.
C
Yeah.
B
I support. Even though I have no idea what
A
it is about, I'm actually really excited for her next book. Like the way she writes things and just like the structure and her verbiage and just her descriptive word, how, whatever how she writes basically, I really liked. So I think she has a new book coming out.
C
Spring, Summer. Oh.
A
So it'll be really good.
C
This is the last Burning side. May.
A
Yeah.
B
All right.
A
I should have added that to my tbr. Yeah.
B
There's so many change ups coming out.
A
It's fine. I won't do it.
B
It's like, I feel like it's inevitable.
A
I'm gonna commit to. I'm gonna commit to my last book. Okay.
C
We decided last year April is the month. Honestly, right now I'm noticing it's May.
A
Yeah.
C
The spring is the time in the publishing world.
B
Okay.
A
What's your last book?
B
I just, like, don't know how much longer I can wait with this book. I'm on pins and needles and the only reason I haven't started is because it's not like completed series, but I just can't wait any longer. I have to know. Metal slinger.
A
Ah.
B
I just like, I gotta know what this is all about.
C
Yeah. You know, I almost picked that one.
A
I think it's on Kindle Unlimited. Yeah.
B
Yes, it is. It does. I mean, and there's an audiobook for it. Not that I think I want to listen to it, but.
A
Yeah, that's another fantasy. Like Booktok book that I've seen a lot. Metal Slinger. What did you just say? You said Metal Singer. You said.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
What's your last one? Oh, my last one. Oh, are you done?
B
You were just gonna leave it out? I don't know anything about metal slinger.
A
I'm sorry. Sling some metal.
B
Guys, I need to be better at preparing. I just. The thing is, I am a person who loves to go into books blind.
A
It's okay.
B
And I could do better at giving you guys synopsis. I would rather report back after I read it.
C
Yeah, that's great.
A
Hey, the next book comes out June 9th. Oh. So that's perfect for you that you could read them both. I don't know if it's gonna. It's a duology. It's a duology.
B
Amazing.
A
It says the epic conclusion I would like. Okay, you know what? That just moved it up in my tbr.
C
Direbound has been forfeit.
A
That moved it up in my tbr. Actually, straight up.
C
Actually, I might not be kidding.
A
That's a. Should I change mine? My last one and put Metal Slinger?
B
Wait, should we put that as our book club for summer?
C
Ooh, Ooh.
A
Not a bad idea. You guys let us know if you want that to be the book club. You know, I can.
B
I can hold off because.
A
Well, that would still. Well, the next one comes out June 7th. Is that what I said? Yeah.
C
Hmm.
B
Anyways, we'll think about it.
A
You. I'll.
B
Well, anyways, I would leave reading that book until closer to when it came. The second one comes out anyways. So if we decide we want to do Metal Slinger as our summer book club, like, I can just wait, you know, give myself a little freebie.
C
Yeah. All right.
A
To do all that.
C
As a reminder, though, Good little segue. Real quick. Our spring tbr, since we're. This is our spring TBR episode. Our spring book club book is Shelda Sparrows and Rites of the Starling by Debney Perry.
A
So is that a dology perchance?
C
No, I don't think it's.
B
I don't think it is. Come on.
A
The epic conclusion. I'm just kidding.
B
It's a sequel.
C
Dang it.
A
That means it's gonna be more epic conclusion number two.
B
Frick, man.
A
It's okay. But that did move that up in my tbr, just so you know. Okay. My last book on my spring TBR is actually completed. It's a trilogy. And I'm here for. I've seen a lot of really good things about it. I Honestly don't know. Well, actually, let me just say. Sorry, I should probably say the book Jade City by Fonda Lee, the way that I interpret it, just strictly based on the COVID I think it's an Asian inspired fantasy set in modern day. So I think there's like guns.
B
Guns.
A
But this says Jade City is a gripping Godfather esque saga. Godfather, yeah.
B
Yes.
A
Of intergenerational blood flute flutes. But blood feuds, vicious politics, magic down. And Kung Fu. Kung Fu. Kung Fu. Dude, this sounds like it sounds epic.
B
Yeah.
A
Two. Oh, there's two crime syndicate families. Of course.
B
Of course.
A
I'm here for it.
B
They gotta have some kind of rival.
A
I'm here for it.
B
Or else it wouldn't be a good plot. You gotta have some sort of enemy.
A
Some sort of enemy.
C
There's godfathers, there's Kung Fu.
A
What else could you want? So magic. Magic. And apparently. I'm sorry, sorry, I'm just thinking of like, have you seen that trend we
C
got started with this, with the podcast.
A

A
Oh, sorry.
C
I didn't want to mark this as explicit.
A
Oh, I don't know if that makes it. Does it make an explicit?
C
Yeah, if someone says S H I T in a song, it's marked as explicit.
A
Oh, well, there you are.
B
What if I said hail an ass?
A
Should we just. Let's see how many swear words we can get away with before we're marked as explicit. All right.
C
Just kidding. Okay, sorry.
A
Well, that is our spring tbr.
C

Closing Remark:
As Kennedy put it, “That’s what I love about this podcast. We don’t take ourselves too seriously ... We’re just three girls candidly chatting.” (66:32) – and this episode’s wide-ranging, fun, and surprisingly deep conversation lives up to that spirit.
