Foreign. Hi, guys. Welcome back to. I'll read what she's reading. I'm Mikayla. I'm Kennedy.
B
And I'm Reggie.
A
There was a lag. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. And today we're going to be. I don't know if anyone noticed that we did a bunch of, like, question box for some, like, episode ideas, and we're finally getting to them. So this one for this week is going to be convincing us to read a book in one line. And I'm very excited to see what you guys have put for us. Me too. But before we do that, we're going to update you guys on, like, our current reads, most recent reads, kind of just something fun like that. Kennedy, you want to go first? I would love to go first. So let's start off with a bang. Okay. If you listened to our under hyped books episode, Reggie put the book of Doors by Gareth Brown on her underhyped tbr and I stole it. I said I'm going to read that. I rated it 5 stars. I don't know if these two will rate it five stars. I think I just read it at a really good time. It kind of mixes all the genres I really love. I thought it was gonna be kind of like the Midnight Library because it kind of sounds very similar. Magical books. So much better. So much better than the Midnight Library. Lots of fun sci fi things. And I'll kind of just leave it at that because I don't want to say anything. Give these guys any preconceived notions or give any spoilers, but if you like. Well, I put this in my Goodreads review and I've said this to these guys already, so they're like, girl, shut up. You're annoying. Not at all. It's intermixed like the thrilling sci fi part of Blake Crouch's writing. The emotional depth and relationships. Topics like grief and loneliness, like Fredrik Backman. But then it had a unique feel to it that I get when I read Rachel Gilligan. So if that. That may have overhyped it for listeners, but I really enjoyed it. Pretty short book, easy to read, easy to listen to. The pacing was really good. Had a few plot twists that were really great. And then let's chat about Mile High, shall we? Yeah. Tom Ford. You haven't read it, right? No. Do not. The. Okay.
B
Okay.
A
I posted on our Instagram story and asked people if it was worth it to continue. And it was so unhelpful because the results were literally 50. 50 didn't you still rate it three stars? No, I rated it too. Oh, okay. Honestly, I will say there was some character development. The main male character wasn't as bad at the end as he was at the beginning. But I did listen to it on three times speed. So that kind of tells you how much I wanted to get over. And honestly, if people didn't rave about the rest of the series, I would not pick it up again because I am a little bit worried that I also just don't jive with Liz. Tom Ford's writing. The fact that she opened up her book with that type of main male character is really interesting to me.
B
It was a big turn off for me. Like I DNF'd it after.
A
I did.
B
Not get very far. But I was so turned off immediately.
A
Well, also, I didn't like the female main character.
B
Yeah, I didn't like either of them.
A
So I should have listened to Brady Lockerbie and I should have listened to Reggie when they said just skip it. But it's hard for me to just skip books, you know? Yeah, I fomo. I don't know. I gotta see for myself. Skip it. But also was hockey. I'm like, I thought these were different sports. I've read the hockey romance thing. I want football, something different. Basketball, I don't know. Golf ball. Yeah, just go sports. But it wasn't. It wasn't. Yeah. Anything great. Honestly quite hated it. And then I'm just gonna talk about this for two seconds just because I read this too. I read the Compound by Aisling Rawl and it's a super short book. So if you are needing to. Okay, maybe not super short. It's 290 pages. But if you're needing something to just help you catch up on your reading goal. I think it was an eight hour listen. And if you like Love island with some like thrilling, almost like horror y adjacent vibes, pick it up. You're following these. I can't remember how many contestants. I think it's like 12 maybe. They go to this compound and they have to essentially like compete for basic living necessities. So when they arrive on the compound, there's no fridge. They have to compete for food.
B
Oh, so it's like Survivor.
A
Kind of. Yeah. But it's like one of the challenges was hold your breath for two minutes and you get a fridge. But everybody in the compound has to do it. But then they also have separate challenges where, for example, it could be like pants, so and so who knows? That's not a real challenge. And then they get personal prizes, and the longer they stay in, the better and better they get. And it's kind of like these people want to become influencers and have all these nice things. The ending was very unsatisfying, but it was a different read. If you like Love island, maybe Survivor, something different. That sounds like a very interesting book. I didn't have super high expectations for it, but I was seeing that a whole bunch of people were reading it, and I just was like, you know what? I'm in the mood for this. I read it in one day. Super easy. Yeah. Nothing amazing, but, like, different. Yeah. So that sounds fun. I just. I'm a type of person that takes me forever to, like, get two books. Yeah. Like, if I see someone reading it, I'll add it, but it takes me probably a year to get to it. Well, that's fine. That's great. I want to be more spontaneous, though. But, you know, I've. I think part of the reason why I decided to pick it up was I'm. At the time I was in a really bad slump. And some of the other books that maybe I was in the mood for, I have higher expectations for, and I didn't want to do them a disservice by reading them at the moment. So I had finished a book and I needed something to read because it was a Sunday and I'm like, what else am I going to do all day? Scroll on my phone? Yeah. Let me just quickly pick up this short book and see how it is. I love it. So love it. Okay, I'll just go real quick. We'll just go in order, if that's cool with you. I read from Blood and Ash.
B
And you loved it.
A
I actually really did. I liked it a lot. Nothing was surprising to me in the book like the plot twists.
B
That doesn't surprise me, though, knowing who.
A
Yeah, I feel like it, but even I didn't feel like it was that hard. But I feel like you guys would probably, like, get it before, just kind of, like, not overused. Is it kind of like, okay, fantasy book, like we see there where this is going type thing? Yeah, okay. Sort of. Yeah. I. Well, I don't know. Maybe she wasn't trying to make it. Like, maybe she was trying to make it obvious. But anyways, I really. I really enjoyed it. I wanted. Here's the thing. I wanted to rate. Rate it five stars. And then I started reading other people's reviews and I felt bullied into rating it. 4. That makes me so sad. I know. I honestly Was just like. I started on a plane and. And I read it the entire time I was on a trip. Like, I could not put it down. I brought it to a baseball game, a major league baseball game. And everyone probably thought I was psycho for bringing a book. I was just kind of over sports. Yeah. At that moment. Cause we went to Eagles game and I was there from 4:30 to 1:30am oh, my gosh. And then the following day, we decided to take a train to Baltimore, Maryland and go to a Dodgers game. So it's gone from like 3 to 12:30. Again, goes for sports. So I was like, I'm bringing my book. Yeah. I don't care what people think. I'm bringing my book. I've done that before.
B
Respect.
A
I've taken books about. And so I. I don't know if it was just the. The time, the setting, but I just. I read it all the way through also. I feel like the pacing was just. It was fun and it gave off vibes of Carissa Broadbent. Like, as far as, like, Serpent and the Wings of Night. Yeah. Because we've all pretty much read all of her books. Except for. I haven't read two of them. I don't think you've read two of them. Right. The Slaying, the Vampire Conqueror and the newest one.
B
I read every single one except for like that tiny little prequel novella for Daughter of the Worlds.
A
Yeah. And I would say mine, my favorite is still Serpents Same. So I don't know, it just had similar vibes. Kind of like more dark. I don't know. Is there a trial? No. Okay. Not. Not necessarily like setting, but setting. Okay. Not necessarily like the plot at all. Just like settings. It's a little bit more gory because I feel like Serpents looming at night is a little bit more gory. So I thought it was really fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's a good time. I've also read too many western books. I read Cash and Because that was on my underrated TBR and I. I really liked it. I need to go back and rate it, I think.
B
Three stars.
A
I really appreciate the maturity level of the characters in the book, but I feel like the emotional depth was not there. And I don't know how to, like, how I can say those things because I feel like those usually are, you know, conjoined at the hip to have, like, mature characters. That means it's like, emotionally, you know, depth. But I feel like they were just like they were mature characters, but it was lacking My attention to, like, relate or connect with the characters. Yeah. Was it like, more. A more sexual, driven relationship? Yes. Okay. At least in my opinion. And then I read. Okay, this is the last one. I'll talk about Wild side. Elsie Silver. Elsie Silver. Okay. Yeah. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I feel like people got cringed out. And I have something to say about it because I feel like that defeated the purpose of the book. And I feel kind of sad for the character because he is, like, a pro wrestler. Like, the wrestlers that have, like, the script they choose. Oh, wwe. Yes. Okay. Yeah. And he doesn't want to talk about it because he's embarrassed and people make fun of him. And people writing reviews saying they got cringed out about it actually, like, made me really upset. And I'm like, you did not understand the point of the book. Like, he hides his identity. Oh. And so, like, really actually pissed me off. That makes sense why everybody was freaking out because she was riding a masked. Like, does he wear a mask? Yes. Okay. Yes. And so, like, I. I know it's a fictional character, but it kind of pissed me off. Like, I get it. I know. I know it's not for everyone, but I feel like it. You know, he anyways, a job's a job, a job's a job. He makes a lot of freaking money doing it. And so I was kind of mad that people were like, it cringed me out. It gave me the ick. I'm like, that is not the point of the book. So I get it. Maybe it's not for everyone. I don't know if I could date someone who did that, but I feel like the female main character handles it so well, and I loved it. Okay, but not to get off on this tangent, but isn't it, like, kind of the same thing as, like, acting? Yes. You know, it legit. Why? Why would you get cringed out at a WDWE wrestler as opposed to, like, an actor? Because it's the same thing. Yeah. Also just wearing a mask. Yeah. And also, I would much rather like. They're not gonna get hurt, probably. Yeah. So, yeah. I'm curious to know your guys's thoughts. It wasn't my favorite of hers by any means, but I. Very tender. Well, I was gonna add that to my Libby holds, but Michaela just reminded me that Elsie Silver books are not on Libby. Yeah. I don't know why. I don't know if they're Audible originals exclusively. Wants it to be like, I wonder if.
B
Could you use, like, a Spotify?
A
They're not on Spotify.
B
They're.
A
The weird thing is it doesn't say it's only on silver books. Yeah, same. Anyways, I'm curious to hear your guys's thoughts, but I think that might be my favorite of the Rose Hill. I was gonna say the Rose Hill has not been my favorite. Like, I would much rather read Chestnut Springs. You know what? I just use a credit. Sure. I'm curious because his name. His name is Reese. Spelled the same. Yep. Okay. All right. So, yeah, Reese the wrestler.
B
Okay. Well, you guys, last time we updated on what we were reading, do you guys remember what book I said?
A
No, because I know it's.
B
I have been in like the worst reading slump up literally actually my entire life. I want to say I talked about Kingdom of Ash.
A
I think you did. Yeah. I think you did.
B
Yeah. I've only read three books since then, you guys.
A
That's. That's fine.
B
That's diabolical. I'm so. I will talk about each book.
A
Sorry. The way you said it was great. I loved it.
B
Anyways, so I talked about Kingdom of Ash. Then I read Dear Future Husband by our good friend Taryn Christine. And it was so cute. It was so sweet and tender and it's just like fun to read a book by someone that you personally know and you've seen like their process to get their book, like self published. Like, I was just like really proud of her. It was so sweet.
A
We just flip flopped our underrated TBRs.
B
Yeah, we did.
A
Yeah, yeah.
B
Cause that was on Kennedy's tbr. Then I read May Luna, which I talked about in a previous episode, but it was so good. Seriously, you guys have any more recs for Rockstar Romances? Send them my way because I just love them.
A
You don't like them? Rockstar Romances? No. Oh, actually, you wanna know what I did say? I did say in one of my reviews that I don't like them. Yeah. But I think it's usually when the girl is the rock star because Wilde, one of the Rose Hill ones. Yeah. She's a famous country singer.
B
Yeah, you're so right about that. I think it's because in some instances, rockstar romances, especially if it's like a heavier, like a more fluffy book, they feel so cheesy.
A
Yeah, yeah.
B
But like Daisy Jones and the six was not cheesy at all. May Luna, I didn't find it cheesy because there were so many other elements to the story that weren't just like, I'm famous, I'm in love and I'm.
A
Yeah.
B
So, yeah, I loved it. It really would have been a five star read for me. But I don't know what it was about the ending. I just was not super satisfied about it.
A
But I've already talked about that before.
B
But I will talk about this for a hot sec.
A
Okay.
B
I just finished reading the Fallen and the Kiss of Dusk.
A
Mm.
B
Crowns of Nyaxia number four by Carissa Broadbent. And I think. I don't. I was in a slump before I started this book, but I have been so excited for this book. And I can't tell you some of the reasons why I've been so excited, but I've been so excited about it.
A
I love Chrissy Broadbent.
B
I love Carissa Broadbent. But I started it while I was kind of in this little slump like you guys. My slump has been so bad that I was, like, browsing, like, what should I watch today while I get my house? Like, while I clean my house or while, like, my daughter's at school? Like, it was. I literally just wanted to watch tv. I was literally thinking of doing anything other than reading. It's been weird.
A
Mm.
B
But I gave the book three stars and it actually, when I was typing my review, I literally got a little teary because I was just so upset that I didn't rate it higher. I do think, one, I just probably read it at the wrong time. I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and read per usual. And so I did listen to most of it. And the female main character, her audio just sounded not. She just sounded like, so, like, annoying. And I'm like, that works. Yeah. Too bubbly. Too sarcastic. And while I love that about her character, it just didn't resonate. Like, the audio kind of ruined it for me a little bit. But I was like, I can look past it. Because the male narrator was so good. So it was kind of like, I kind of be like, okay. And then he'd start talking and I was like, I'm locked in. I. Carissa's pacing in her books. That's, like the only negative thing I can say about her books. Her pacing is just a little odd. It doesn't really work for me. Everything else, love, I just. Yeah, like I said, started at the wrong time. The pacing is a little weird. Audiobook. Eh. And there were so many epic moments, you guys. Like, I'd be kind of like, eh. While I was, like, listening to it. And then the next second I was like, literally, like, gripping my countertop, like, sweating because I was like, so excited. But it was just kind of like all over the place for me and it probably a part of it was my own problem. But yeah, I like literally about Shed a Tear because I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. But the ending has me very excited for the next book. So. She'll do that to you? Shall see?
A
She will do that to you.
B
Like, it sucks that I gave it three stars, but then I think about certain parts of that book and I'm like, that's insane.
A
So that's your least favorite book by her then?
B
Yes, very easily my least favorite. Even though there's elements to it that you like, if I were to tell you certain things, you would be like, you didn't write that higher. You know what I mean? I do think you guys will like it a lot more than I did. I think I just did it a disservice by listening to it and reading it at the wrong time when I was in a slump. I thought it would pull me out of it and it didn't. So, yeah, that's okay. I can't wait for one of you guys to read it eventually so I can talk about some things because. Yeah, but I also think with the Crowns of Nyaxia, with specifically this one and the one before, with that one character storyline, there's a lot of the setting that it's in with those two books is just hard for me for some reason. It's a lot of talk of, you know, the gods and the underworld and there's like this necromancy element. And it was just a lot to digest. Like, I kept being like, wait, what are they trying to do? I was asking myself that constantly throughout the entire book. So. But I think it was a me problem, unfortunately.
A
Unfortunately, that makes me want to.
B
But then I really do think that by me saying that if you were to read it, you might read it a lot higher than you think you would.
A
I mean, I can see how there's a lot of epic moments that are going to happen in the book with the way that the first one ended. What is it? I get the name wrong every time. Songbird in the Heart of Stone. Yeah. With the way that book ended, I can see there would be a lot of jaw dropping moments, but I have to be in the mood for Chris's pacing.
B
Also, the romance just wasn't as exciting to me as it was in the last book. Yeah, but I think that you guys will be hyped for what I think is coming next. I'm feeling Pretty darn hyped.
A
Okay. Okay. Well, that makes me work. Fine, I'll read it. I feel like.
B
Like I was getting whiplash with this book. I'm not kidding. It was like I went from being like, okay, I really. I don't know. It wasn't me. Problem. I can stop talking about it. But, you know, that's okay.
A
That's fine. That you're recognizing that it potentially could.
B
It was a pretty long book. It was pretty long. Almost 700 pages. Oh, so that is crazy. I was anticipating that.
A
All right, shall we?
B
Let's sell some people and some books, since I didn't really sell you on the Fallen and the Kiss of Dust.
A
They're kissing. They're. They're kissing. They're kissing. They're selling us on books. That's what they're doing.
B
Get Reggie out of her reading some.
A
My what? Yeah, my one criteria is just one of these books needs to get me out of slump.
B
All right, let us begin. Shall we?
A
Oh, yes. Okay, I'll go first. This one's great. Okay. And I don't know if I will ever read this series, but this makes me want to. Most people are lucky to have even one great love in their life. You have found two. The Infernal Devices. Oh, the Infernal Devices. No, I think you have. It's one of those books that was.
B
What's the genre?
A
Fantasy. Oh, hold on. Like, Cassandra Clare. Clockwork Angel. Clockwork Princess. I know you've heard of these because they were really, really iconic in, like, the dystopian era. Everybody read them when they were younger, and now I've been seeing some creators read them now as they're older. There is a weird thing that I know happens in the book that I think has to do with this quote. So I don't know how I feel about it, but that does make me want to read it a little bit. So I'll mark it as. Want to read. Mark it as. All right, I'm gonna say this one because I've read it. Oh, Death was a hefty price to pay for vodka. The Lachlan Feud. It's called the Frick. I don't know what it's called. The Princess. The Lachlan. What is the first Scarlet Princess. The Scarlet Princess. I really. No. Oh, I really enjoyed the series. When did you read that? Actually, six months ago. February. Yeah, six months ago. I just looked. Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I just added it as. Want to read Te. I. I. Yeah, I loved it. And they're really Short. It's like, more Viking. Ooh. Okay. Not necessarily. I don't even know. I feel like when you say Lachlan, I just think Loch Neck. Loch Ness Monster. And then it just goes right to the sea. To sea. Yeah. No, it really. It's all on land. Darn it, it's all on land. Maybe some horses, a carriage. No ships. No ship. Got it. A castle. Yeah. Underground. Yeah. No water. They actually don't drink water. Sorry. Okay.
B
Okay.
A
Are you crying?
B
No.
A
Oh, I thought you were crying over there. This next one just really got me.
B
It actually sounds like something I'd really enjoy. Badass Mums versus Vampires.
A
Oh, yeah.
B
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires is what it's called.
A
Oh, that kind of sounds kind of funny. Wait, the Southern. Yeah.
B
Go at it to your want to read?
A
Maybe?
B
And then I'll go at it. Because if I exit out of this.
A
I'll have to scroll back to this Southern.
B
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires That.
A
Oh, got it. There's just.
B
In this world, it's being.
A
I have seen. I've seen this cover before. Kind of looks like it might be Lipfic. Is it short? 410. Okay. Fried green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias meet Dracula. That sounds.
B
Sign me up. That's my arm.
A
I don't. Y' all read it. Okay, this sounds really interesting you guys are pulling through with this.
B
Yeah.
A
Not me. Just my fingers are going crazy because I don't understand how this would work.
B
Hmm.
A
Okay. It says, as you read the book, it slowly loses letters in the Alphabet. It's called elemento. P. What? That's funny. Element. Wait, what? It's literally called Ella, Minnow, P. Did you guys get it? L, M, N, O, P. Wait a second.
B
Why do I feel like that's a prank?
A
No, it's real. It's a real thing. I just want to read. I'll add it by Mark Dunn. And it literally says, ella Menopee is a girl living happily on the fictional island of Nolup off the coast of South Carolina. Okay, and then Nolip was named after Nevin Nolup, the author of the immortal the Quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. She has to save her friends and family. Anyways, as the letters progressively drop from the statue, they also disappear from the novel. The result is both a hilarious and moving story of one of the girls of one girl's fight for freedom of expression.
B
Yeah, that sounds.
A
I'm intrigued. I don't know. That sounds Crazy. Kindle Unlimited. Because I wonder if I can, like, pull up and like, scroll to the end. How would you read. I make Kindle Unlimited, girl.
B
Now that's gotta take so much talent. If you're like, okay, we're getting rid of the letter no R. Can you.
A
Get a sample and scroll to the end? Oh, download sample. What? If I can just look, you can.
B
Scroll to the end.
A
Ella Minnow. P. Ending P. Okay, so all the letters are here currently. I don't know if they actually disappear from the book. Maybe it's like. Wait, do they? I can't tell. Anyways, sounds interesting. I don't know if the letters actually are not just straight up in the book, but that's the way I interpreted that. So they just. You just. Any. You just get an L. Space, space, space. You gotta film it. You got. It's like Jeopardy. Yeah. No, not Jeopardy. Wheel of Fortune. Yes. Yeah. If you've read that book, please let us know if it actually just the letters disappear, because it sounds interesting. Anyway, there you have it.
B
All right.
A
This just got. Got me excited to read a book. I'm ready to hear it. I saw you and the first time I wanted. And so I took. Oh. And that's War. Oh, oh, so War's got a. War's got a girlfriend or boyfriend or something.
B
War.
A
Dang. If you guys didn't listen to last week's episode that's on Michaela's Fall tbr. That just made me really excited. So someone has read that series. Maybe they heard about it from you. Maybe. Maybe they're going, maybe love is a.
B
Deadly disease and she falls for it before the cure.
A
What's the book?
B
Delirium by Lauren Oliver.
A
Oh, okay, wait, I've Delirium. Heard of that. Yeah, it's like a dystopian. Oh, when was it published? Well, 2012.
B
Just kidding.
A
How do you know that? Okay, I got one for you guys that will hopefully convince you to read this. Since the second one comes out in November, I'm straight up gonna have to reread the first book. I am dangling and it's only my father's blood slick grip that stops me from falling.
B
Oh, I saw that one. Will of the Many.
A
The Will of the Many. You know, I haven't read it yet. Because you're waiting for the next one to come out. Yeah. Yeah, honestly, good choice, because I'm gonna have to reread it.
B
It comes out in November.
A
Yes. Yeah, there was a lot of discourse because they changed the covers. You guys know they switched the covers. I have the old cover, and people were so upset because they weren't gonna release the second book in the original cover. Does this make sense? Yes. James Islington, the angel, he is. He fought for it. And they're. The hard covers are coming with reversible dust jackets so you can reverse it and have the. The old cover. The old cover, I think. I think you guys will enjoy. Feels familiar, yet new at the same. Same time. Maybe I'm just really dumb, but when I finished the book, I did have to go on Reddit because I didn't understand what happened, so that's okay. I feel like it seems like a very big, dense book. So, like, it is like it is, but it isn't, because the magic system is really easy. It's basically like a pyramid scheme of magic. Okay. Where you're the bottom people. If I'm remembering correctly, they siphon magic from the bottom people. And then people siphon magic. Siphon magic. Siphon magic till it gets to the very top. So just still, if I'm remembering correctly from each other, I think it's magic. I don't know. Anyways, very cool. Okay. I'm curious if this is intriguing for you guys, because I know we all haven't read it. Okay. Love is visible. It paints the air between two people a different color. Is this Yumi? No, it's the. The wedding people. Oh, guys, I almost started that the other day, but I wasn't in the mood, and now I am in the mood. I'm assuming.
B
Don't like it.
A
That's a quote from the book. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Say it again for me one more time. Love is visible. It paints the air between two people a different color. Hmm. That sounds like I would love it, but I have heard a lot of people didn't like it. I know your friend Abby read it, and I think she rated it four stars. Yeah, I think she did like it a lot. So I don't know. I feel like it's a summer book. And now I feel like I'm getting to the point where it's not summer anymore, so I feel like I may.
B
Have to read it. Weddings, you know, in the slower season.
A
You know, I don't think that's happening. I don't think it's really about weddings, so I think I'm pretty sure the main character, like, why do I keep wanting to say the Hangover? What's the movie where they. Oh, Wedding crashers. I think she crashes a wedding. Okay. I don't know. Okay.
B
This next one I'm gonna omit part of it for a. Together and happy, they miscommunicate. Nine hundred girls later, they fight again.
A
What? Say that again. Say it one more time. Say it one more time. My brain.
B
Together and happy. They communicate. No, sorry. Together and happy, they miscommunicate. 900 girls later, they fight again.
A
900 girls later. Is that an exaggeration? Magnolia heart.
B
Yes. And so there's another one that says her brother is a ganglord, her boyfriend is a ganglord, her friend is a ganglord.
A
I love it. Sign me up.
B
That was just a funny one. I just.
A
Okay, I thought you were being literal. Yeah, like 900, I was like. Is that.
B
No, technically, it says together and happy. He cheats. They miscommunicate. But I got rid of the cheating part, even though most people know that.
A
But.
B
Okay, I'll give a more serious.
A
No, I loved that one, though.
B
This one says we're all monsters. The difference is I don't pretend to be a human hero.
A
What's that female main character I'm in? Ash tree. Tree of as cut off.
B
Kayla something Tree.
A
Ash Tree of ash. Tree of Ash by Kayla Ann.
B
Yeah.
A
I mean, that is the second book in the series. Oh, well, Of Dreams is the first one. Hey. Hey. Kind of dystopian. O. All right, I'll mark it as. Want to read. Love it. Oh, is it my turn? Yeah. You don't know. I have heard so many good things about this book, and I think I'm going to move it up in my tbr. So he treats you well? Mom, he walked into hell and dragged me out. Promise me, sunshine. Oh, I've heard a lot of good things about that book. You have? Did you like it?
B
It was very. Yeah, it's a very cute.
A
What did you rate it?
B
I think three and a half stars.
A
Okay.
B
It was very good. I think I would like it more that for some reason, the female main character was just a little too quirky for me. You know?
A
Can a romance author just write a girl that's not quirky.
B
But there's a lot of really great undertones to that book, and I love that part. Made me cry.
A
So where you go, I go. But I'm not gonna say what it is. Oh, we're doing a guess. Guess the book by the line. No, because I don't want to spoil it. Oh.
B
Oh. So I better make sure I don't read it.
A
Okay. I'll just say, have you have. We've all read this. No, you haven't read it. Oh, I. Okay, here's what I'll say. I'll say, where you go, I go. It's from the summer I turned pretty, but I'm not gonna say who said it. Oh. Oh, yeah. Okay. There you go. Where you go, I go. Where you go, I go. I'm just. I know who says it. Me, too. But I'm not gonna say it. Just in case. Yeah. People haven't read it and you guys are watching the show. Actually, I think it will be done. It might be. It might be. No, I think it's the day this episode goes live. Is the finale. Yeah. You. I'm so concerned. Sorry. I won't go down that path.
B
I have.
A
You want to know what? How about.
B
Did you have a party?
A
Yes. I'm caught up. I'm caught up. How about we debrief after the season ends on the beginning of an episode?
B
All right.
A
You guys let us know if you'd like us to debrief on the summer I turn pretty on an episode. Okay. The beginning of an episode. Like a little segment.
B
My turn. This just is. I have so many questions about this one. This one says, only person left on a cruise ship. There's the last one by Will Dean. I'm like, is that a thriller?
A
It's gotta be the last one. The last one on a cruise ship.
B
Will Dean. Oh, this cover looks familiar. Yeah, I think it's a thriller.
A
By who? Oh, Will Dean.
B
They explore the ship, they hang out. But when she wakes up the next morning, her husband is gone. And when she wakes up, walks into the corridor of the hallway, all the cabin doors are open and the ship is completely empty.
A
That sounds like my nightmare.
B
No passengers, no crew. Nobody but her. And she's in the middle of the ocean.
A
I actually. No. Nope.
B
That would be my biggest nightmare. No, no, seriously, would you have the WI fi?
A
No. You got WI fi? She called for some help.
B
I have a lot of questions about that.
A
Interesting. If you see me just adding books. No. You guys know why? Okay, I have one. I actually have this on my shelf, and I've had it on my shelf for a really long time, so this is making me want to read it. Dark, brooding, sinister. Even more morally gray. Hunger Games. All of us villains. I think the first one is all of our. All of us villains. And the second one is all our demise. Or something like that. Oh, yes. I have them both. I have seen this. Oh, love it.
B
You know, I love the Hunger Games.
A
I like morally. That's so interesting. Characters, I feel like from the. Oh, my gosh. My Goodness from the COVID Doesn't seem like it would be. It's like a hand, isn't it? Yeah, it's like hands. It doesn't seem like it would be like a. Do you know what genre it is? No. I can look it up. Let's see. Because what would you consider? Hunger Games. Dystopian. Right? That's what I would think. Because it's in the future, right? Yes. Let's see.
B
I'm so chills reading one of these.
A
It just said fantasy fiction. Okay, so it's got a fantasy element into it. Yes. Okay, I'm interested. Okay. I'm just gonna read this. I will say there's been some controversy about this author. Take that with what you will. Like, who is this? Do you know now? No. I feel like everybody's under controversy. I am obsessed with her writing. So we've all read this, but if it doesn't convince you to read the series, then I don't know what will. Loving you is the thing I grab first when the house is on fire.
B
Just like he thinks.
A
Yeah. Magnolia Parks and her freaking one liners. Just.
B
Oh, they're good.
A
They're good. They're so good. Good. I did see someone use the. I heard him laugh and it sounds like the doorbell of the house I grew up in. Yeah. So good. How does she do that?
B
How does she do that?
A
Rude.
B
Well, tell me if this is spoilery. I don't think it's spoilery necessarily, but I read it and I got the chills.
A
Oh, so it's a red rising one.
B
Tell all who hear the reaper. The reaper sails to Mars and he calls for an iron rain.
A
I don't think that's spoilery. No. Who's the reaper? What's an iron rain? Yeah, I don't know what's Mars?
B
Literally chills. It's a planet body.
A
That book also has some good one liners. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
B
Okay.
A
This says kind of a bodyguard romance. Enemies to lovers, gladiator fights in space. Oh, it's by. It's by an author that is very familiar. Never heard. Well, actually, I have heard this by her. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. Oh, yeah. That's not at all what I thought. I didn't even it was going to be about. No. And then I looked at the synopsis and accurate. I don't know. But I just read one of her other books and I was kind of a little disappointed. But that sounds cool though. It does sound really cool. I added it on my want to read so I don't know why. I thought it was, like, about vampires. No, I did too. No, like, I'm thinking about it. I'm like, why did I always think it was about vampires? I don't know. The COVID I think the COVID I feel like, is deceiving me. It's like, it gives off fantasy vibes, in my opinion. Yeah. Gives off, like, werewolf. I don't know. Yeah. Anyway, maybe I gotta give it a chance. Okay. I've never heard of this book before. Don't know what it's about, but this line is. I love a good, like, confession. You know, I. I'm assuming this is a little bit of a confession. It says, I think you'd be really easy to love. Unloved by Peyton Corin. Sounds good. I have no idea what it's about, but that line intrigues me a lot. Ooh, it's a hockey romance. Oh, guys, I can't lie. I don't really love hockey romances, but I'll add it on my. Want to read? Okay. By that love confession alone.
B
I was gonna say this one just sounds interesting to me. Romantic twist on Survivor.
A
I was gonna share that one for you. What is it called?
B
Attached at the hip.
A
Oh.
B
I'm wondering if this is one I've seen on TikTok before. Yes, I've seen the. The author post about this before. I think I talked about it on the podcast once, like, forever ago.
A
Oh, you did? Yeah.
B
I don't know why I did, but the COVID says, survive the elements, find love, win the game. So I want to say that the author I could be making this up was on Survivor. No, she just loved Survivor so much, and so she wanted. It's basically like they are on Survivor, the people in the book. But yeah, it's like a. They play a game of human chess for a shot at a million dollars. So it's like stranded on an island, but love comes along while she's on there.
A
Haven't there been contestants on Survivors that, like, fall in love and get married and stuff?
B
Ah.
A
Cute.
B
It's actually. I was watching an edit the other day, so my husband hasn't watched a lot of the older seasons of Survivor like, he has. He started watching when they did the winners at war season, when they brought on, like, a bunch of previous winners. And I was showing him there's these two people that met on Survivor and it was a fan edit of, like, their romance, and it was actually the sweetest thing ever. And I was like, I made him sit down and watch, like, all three and A half minutes of it. I was like, this is literally the cutest thing ever. And they're still very happily married. They have like four daughters, I think.
A
Oh, precious. Now you can read a book about it. Yeah. Oh, that sounds fun. All right. You guys got any more? No, that's it. Thank you guys so much for submitting those one liners. Description about a book you have added.
