A
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to all. Read what she's reading. I'm Reggie.
B
I'm Mikaela. And I'm Kennedy.
A
Today we're discussing our book club book, Immortal Consequences by IB Marie. And we're very excited to discuss this book with you guys because, as always, we don't talk to each other really about the books until we record this episode for book clubs.
B
And.
A
We really only see things that we post in our fable book club. So if you're not on our fable.
B
What are you doing?
A
I'm just kidding because it's so fun.
B
I was really bad this time around.
A
I was too.
B
Well, I think we all were kind of in a rush and a whirlwind to finish this book. I think I finished it. Mother freaker. I finished it yesterday. Reggie finished it yesterday. And Mikayla, you finished it this morning.
A
Yeah, I finished it this morning, actually.
B
Well, yeah, there you have it. We. I think we all kind of had to see what you're getting. Maybe. I don't know.
A
I've just been in a very poor book slump. Like, bad. I think I've just had so many books I want to read, but then books that, like, I need to read and then not a lot of time to sit down and read. And so I've been doing a lot of books a disservice with the slump I've been in in my schedule. So. Yeah. But if you're new here for book club episodes, the way we kind of do things is we start off with our overall rating of the book and share our thoughts, our loves, our dislikes, and then we like to share a fan cast because, you know, things are starting to get picked up and we love seeing the adaptations. So it's kind of fun to see who we pictured the characters as. And I'm specifically really excited for this one because we had so many, many main characters.
B
Yep.
A
That we got to know so well.
B
So mine are rather unhinged. It was based on things I was currently watching at the time. The first thing that popped in my head was just what I kept. And it's like mixed mediums. Some people are like animated characters, some people are real people. It's a little.
A
Stay tuned.
B
Yeah, you're gonna want to stay to the end. And we'll also announce our October booklet.
A
Book at the end of the episode. So, anywho, let's get into the reviews. I do not want to go first because I still am undecided.
B
You want to Rock Paper, Scissors? Okay, I. Okay. I'm just going to say I really struggled for, like, the 130 pages pretty much until the first trial started. It was really hard to get into. I feel like where this book had an issue for me was the pacing. The pacing of it was just really. I think it's hard to have good pacing when you're dealing with seven characters. And so, like, I really. I really enjoyed the characters, but I almost thought I would like it more because it had so many characters. But I feel like I liked it less because there were so many characters involved. And so I think I'm gonna give it 3. Maybe 3.5. I haven't, like, decided yet because the ending was really great. I loved how, like, everything was, like. It just. I feel like I could have gotten to things a lot sooner, but I guess I understand that when there's seven characters involved, you gotta involve every single one of them in a chapter. And so, I don't know. It's just. It was. It was definitely. I. I give her credits because that would be a really difficult thing to attack with having seven different point of views. I feel like I really have only seen that when you're already deep into a series.
A
Yeah.
B
You've already. You already have the character, the main, like, core three, you know, their backstory. Yeah. So I definitely want to give her credits for doing that. And I think she did it really good. But I feel like that's. It's just really hard to really solidify a story and solidify the pacing and plot when you're just jumping into all these characters so well. And also, it's. How many pages? It's really not that many pages to have 1, 2, 3, 4. Literally, like 7 point of views, or I guess 6. It's 6 point of views. Yeah. And it's not even 500 pages. Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah. I think that. Yeah. 3. 3.5. Yeah. The beginning was really, really hard, but as soon as the first trial, I was like, okay, we're getting somewhere. This is getting good. But then as soon as the first trial ended, it kind of went back into that lull. I kind of just wish it was consecutive. Yeah, the trials were a little bit more consecutive. I don't know.
A
Yeah. The pacing of that definitely felt a little weird to me, too, because it was like a trial, and it was like. And then, oh, we're gonna wait a few weeks.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Am I going next? You guys are both looking at me like, yeah, sorry, go ahead. My feelings are very similar to Mikayla's, and it's unfortunate for you listeners that I feel very similar because you're not gonna get much more from me. I'm going to rate it 3 stars as well. Now I'm in this really weird space with. You would call this Romantasy. Yeah, yeah. It's not fantasy. I would call it Romantasy. Yeah, yeah. I don't know, you got like two. You got two, like young adult Romantasy. I'm in a weird space with it and I don't know if it's because I'm also currently reading Harry Potter, but one of my Goodreads updates was it was it's Harry Potter meets K Pop Demon Hunters. And that's what I felt like this book kind of was a little bit for me. And in my fancasts you'll see that that's all I could picture. I like Mikayla, thought I was going to go. I loved that I had so many point of views going into it, but because there were so many point of views, it was hard for me to develop a connection to any of the characters. So for me, the story felt very low stakes until it was revealed that, oh, hey, actually you do truly quote, die if you don't make it in the trials. I almost feel like I wish that would have been revealed earlier on in the story and then I would have been more invested because during the trials I was like, well, what's the point if you die? Who cares? Like, who cares? And at that point, I also didn't really see being an ascended being as this high stakes thing. Yeah. So for me it just kind of felt like, so what? For a big portion of the story and also just, you know, some of the things that are just kind of used a lot in fantasy books were in it. I mean, we all know I love not telekinesis. Telepathy.
A
Telepathy. Mind speak.
B
Yeah, you got telepathy. Which I do love. The relationship between August and Ren felt very similar to a lot of books. Kind of was giving. I'm not going to say what book, but I think we all three know which book, which I loved and I ate it up, but it just felt the same. But I will say that I really loved the setting. I felt like the. The thought of it being in the afterlife and their reaping souls fighting these demons felt really fun and new to me. And also I felt like it was a really good September pick because it did feel very fall with the afterlife. So I did love that. I'm asking myself if I'm going to continue reading the next book and I don't know. I think it will depend on what else is released around the same time and if I remember enough from this book to, like, want to pick it up. But it was good. Fine. Nothing to, like, write home about. Yeah.
A
Yeah, I am. I want to say three stars, but a part of me thinks it needs to be like, a 2.75 for me, which sounds so harsh, but, like, I feel like we say on the podcast a lot that, like, three stars is, like, still, like, a really good rating. But to me, I'm like, one, I don't know if I would continue to read the next books. And two, I'm like, there's not enough that I loved enough for me to be able to say, like, yeah, it.
B
Was still like, a good book.
A
Like, a really good book. It's not that I really disliked it so far, but, you know, it's hard to be, like, 2.75. And I feel like that when you're in that range. It sounds like I absolutely hated this book. I didn't. I think I just. It was really hard for me to stay invested in the story when there were the multiple point of views. And I really was not that invested into Ren and August's relationship at all. I thought August was interesting. And I loved the audiobook. Narrator. Oh, yeah, all the audio. The audiobook was fantastic, like, as far as, like, talent is concerned. But I just had the hardest time connecting with them because I think it was just kind of like, I see exactly where this is going a little bit. And it just. I don't know, there was something about it that didn't feel that exciting to me. However, I was so. I was really invested in Olivier and Emilio. I really was, like, rooting for them. I think that's the thing that kept me invested. But, yeah, the stakes did not feel high enough for me to be like, I need to pick this book up and read it. It just felt. I don't know, the very beginning, I was like, oh, this is so exciting and so interesting. And then it kind of just. Yeah, I think it was. Once the first trial started, I was kind of like, oh, this doesn't feel high stakes enough. And then like you said, once it was revealed, I like your thought of it. Maybe should have been introduced a little sooner. The ending was good. I was surprised by a few things, and it makes me kind of intrigued for the next book, but I just am not feeling, like, excited enough to potentially continue. So I feel like a Debbie Downer, But I think for a good 80% of this book, I was just kind of like, eh, we'll see where things go. I wasn't super invested.
B
But let's also consider that we're all in a really bad reading slump.
A
Yes.
B
Quite literally the worst of my reading career. And specifically, once again, something about fantasy books. I feel like they've all just been falling short and I don't know what I'm doing, wanting or needing from them.
A
I almost feel like I need a really long break from fantasy. But then not at the same time because all the books I want to read are fantasy books.
B
I don't know, maybe. Maybe it's just the young adult fantasy genre that I'm kind of leaving. I don't know.
A
I think it's because sometimes the stakes either don't feel high enough or because it's like, I don't need spice. I don't need like. I don't know how to explain it, but there's something about new adult books that feels. Yeah. Higher stakes. I don't really know how to explain my thoughts on that, but it's almost.
B
Like you can use just a little bit more mature plot themes that I feel like typically do feel a little bit more high stake.
A
Yeah.
B
Because you can add in things that you like. I don't know. That's. That's the way I would interpret it. Yeah. I guess I also was a little thrown off by the whole school aspect because. And I. I feel like the afterlife and stuff like that, it's a really cool. But I'm like, if you've been there for centuries, you're still going to school, you're still learning magic. Learning. I don't know. Like, I felt like that just felt really off to me.
A
I felt like they should have had more developed. Stronger magic.
B
Yeah.
A
And like a stronger understanding. I felt like they were kind of all in the dark for a long time. And I'm like, you've been here for how long and you don't have more questions or you're not.
B
Is this a college? Is this a high school?
A
Yeah. I was almost wanting them to like, you know, in the beginning where they're kind of rebelling, to like sneak out. I'm like, why does that feel. I feel like they'd be doing a lot more than just. Well, if.
B
It feels very juvenile because also I'm like, you're dead. You've been dead for centuries. I don't know. I just. The premise and the setting was very cool, but I feel like the backstory behind it had me just like. I don't know.
A
Yeah. I found myself asking a lot of questions. Like, there were a lot of plot. Maybe I shouldn't say plot holes, but things that I was questioning that kind of took me out of the story a little bit. Yeah.
B
But I don't know. I had a really hard time because I just pictured this book as Wednesday and her going to school. Yeah. And that's all I could picture.
A
Yeah.
B
The school being. I don't even know what the school is called.
A
Blackbird.
B
Blackwood.
A
I don't know.
B
I think it's Blackwood Academy or something like that. And that's the setting that this book took. Yeah. I could see that.
A
Picturing, like, Hogwarts, but then, like, a little more whimsical. But then I was like, why am I picturing this a little more whimsical when they're, like, in the after? I don't know. But the overall vibes were kind of cool, even though I had a hard time kind of picturing things, especially where the world that they originally came from was a modern world. So it was kind of hard for me to be like, is this kind of like. Like, what does this actually look like? But I. So it kind of gave me room to kind of be creative in my brain. But, yeah. A few, like, loose ends that I wanted as far as the setting and the backstory that I would love to have known a little sooner. Yeah, I agree. But I think we'll. We'd get a lot of answers in the next book, obviously.
B
So my question is for you guys. Do you really feel like. What is it called? The D. The.
A
Oh, Demian order. Demian order.
B
Do you really feel like it's that bad? Because I'm feeling like it might not be as bad as it is and that where they're at now is actually the bad. I don't know. That's. That's the hard thing is, I mean, at the end of the book, you find out that Silas isn't as great as he's cut men out to be. He actually, like, took the academy from somebody else. But then the Demian order, it's like they're both bad. But then you have the rebellion. Yeah. Or the revolution. That's actually the good guys. It just. Nothing ever felt super pressing. And the Demian order also. Yeah. Didn't feel like this big bad.
A
Yeah.
B
Thing to me. Well, I think why it also didn't seem like this big bad thing was because Irene was like, yeah, I'll probably join. I was like, okay. So it's like not that bad. Like, she's like, yeah, yeah, probably. I'll just. Just in a little bit, I'll join.
A
Well, and then at the end, doesn't Ren. In her point of view, it's like she's.
B
She's Demi in order.
A
Yeah. Yeah. And she's kind of like, whoa, this is amazing. Right?
B
Which, I mean, we do. I feel like we've been kind of negative.
A
I know.
B
Maybe we should share our favorites first, because I was. I was gonna say something like, the fact that she randomly joined the Demian order felt so out of character to me. Yes.
A
Oh, she.
B
It wasn't by choice.
A
Yeah. Really kind of.
B
Well, I mean, they. I guess. Yeah. August's sister or Edith took her, but. Yeah. Yeah. But then Irene is also a part of it. Yeah. Everybody's a part of the Demian order. Let's be honest. Except for the. But then also, I'm like, okay, but, Ren, you're also part Demian because August gave you her soul.
A
Yeah, well, yeah. And then the first line of the book, doesn't it say, we've been waiting a long, long time for you?
B
Yeah, there's something. She's some saving grace. What's the trope? Yeah. The Chosen One trope. We got the chosen One trophy. But maybe, let's say some of our favorite. Some of the things we liked.
A
Emilio and Olivier.
B
Olivier. Olivier was my favorite character.
A
Yeah.
B
Did you guys have a favorite character?
A
Olivier was my favorite. Yeah.
B
Yeah. Mateo. Oh, yeah.
A
I like Mateo. He was kind of giving. Oh, yeah.
B
It took me a second. Yeah, it took me a second. I. I feel like it was hard because I really just didn't have that deep of a connection with any of the characters. And, like, when was it Emilio got hurt? Or is it Olivier? Emilio.
A
Emilio.
B
Yeah. I was like, ah, that sucks. And I didn't care. No. But also, I feel like that was Mickey. I honestly. This is so bad. I wish he would have died. Yeah. Just to, like, high in the stakes. Higher the stakes. And I almost thought he did when it, like, ended his chapter abruptly and I was like, oh, okay, Emilio just died. I don't. Psych. Yeah. I don't know. It's. Yeah. Olivier joined the Demon order, Demian Order, in order to. I will say. I will say, like, honestly, I really loved the way she described, like, the skeleton thing in the first trial. Like, I thought that was so cool. All the other trials just fell very flat for me. But that first trial, which. I don't know, I love a good, like, maze. Maze setting with these Crazy creatures chase. I don't know. It just felt. I really like that part. That was when I was like, oh, this is turning out to be, like, really good. I like this. And then.
A
Yeah. And then the other ones just felt a little lackluster. Yeah. But, yeah, I did like the first. The first trial a lot because. What did they. What did they call the creature things? The. The. They had a name for them. Did they?
B
All I can remember is the Shadow Monster.
A
I wanted to see some fan art.
B
Oh, my gosh.
A
And I only could see the ones from the inside of. Is it the same?
B
I put in the fable.
A
Where's the other one?
B
Book club. I was foaming at the mouth for fan art of each of the characters. I take a look at them.
A
I think really, I looked because I was. When I was, like, trying to think of my fan cast, I only saw, like, the inside from what she had posted. At least the inside of. Have you seen the COVID for. I don't know what edition it is? And it has, like, the picture of the school on the front. No, it's beautiful. I also really like the map in the beginning. I think that it's a really cool map. Isn't that cool? Yeah. Blackwood Academy.
B
Because I was right about that. Yeah, you were right. You were right. I think. I think my favorite part of the book was just, like, the setting and the way she described things, like the way she described the magic, the way she described the monsters, I think painted a really vivid picture in my brain. I also do think that the banter she wrote. I mean, I did giggle, like, I. I ate up the banter. It was. It was fun to read. It was exciting. I enjoyed the romance. It's nothing to, like, write home about, but it's something familiar and fun and everybody, you know, always loves it. I listened and read it. And I will say the audiobook was very well done. Yeah. Did you guys notice, and maybe I'm making this up in my head. So August, when he would read, he was American, but then in everybody else's point of view, they narrated him as British.
A
Yeah. At one point I was, like, confused what his accent was, because I don't.
B
Think the narrator for August has a British accent. It's just like. It's deep and gravelly, but I didn't notice an accent. Maybe he does have a slight accent.
A
But I felt like it was very slight. But sometimes it was like. Yeah, more American sounding.
B
Yeah. With.
A
Yeah, I had. I got like, 75% of the way through the book, and I Remember, I paused the book for a second and I was like, wait.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
So, yeah, I noticed that.
B
I feel like I sometimes would get confused when one narrator from one point of view would speak in a different accent for the other characters. And I was like. And they sound a little different.
A
Yeah.
B
I don't want to negate the talent that the. Oh, for sure. Audiobook narrators had, but sometimes I was like, what, What. What accent?
A
There were a lot of accents, so it was a lot. Lots of talent to go back and.
B
Forth between the author. Her mother is Peruvian and her dad is Chilean. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. So I think that's why she wrote the characters that she did because, you know, kind of to show a little bit of her heritage and stuff. And so I. I really enjoyed the accents, especially of Emilio and Olivier. Olivier. The guy that did Olivier was.
A
Yeah, I thought it was the Chase Brown guy, but it's not.
B
Yeah, I. I think. Yeah, my favorite things were Olivier. The audiobook narrators did a great job. The setting is amazing.
A
I also loved the concept a lot. Like.
B
Like, the actual.
A
I was really excited to read it because of the concept. Unfortunately, it just disappointed me a little bit. But I do think that it would be really interesting to see where she does continue the story. Yes. Mikayla.
B
I feel a little deceived by the back of the book when it says six rivals. They were friends. They were all friends.
A
Yeah.
B
They're not. I. That's what also what maybe threw me off a little bit. I was like, aren't they supposed to be rivals? I mean, I guess, yes, they're rivals because they're all competing for the same thing.
A
But I would.
B
They were chilling. Yeah.
A
I would have liked to have one of the characters, like, absolutely hate one of the other characters, like, being like, once they find out. Oh, you actually, like. You know, I would have loved to have someone be like, okay, I'm going for it. Like, I'm gonna. And I feel like there was, like, this kind of, you know, enemies to lovers with Ren in August.
B
Girl, that was insta love. Yeah. That was not any celebrity. It was straight up.
A
I do think she was, like, being a little too hard on him for a while. I'm like, okay, come on, girl. But, yeah, I would have loved to see more tension between all the characters because. Yeah, you're right.
B
I forgot that the six rivals. They're not rivals. What about six competitors? Yeah, that's better. I feel like that's better. I don't know. I guess I went into this, I'm like, wait, they're all, like, friends and they help each other out and. Which I'm not saying I don't like. I liked that they were, like, helping each other out and trying to, like, almost figure things out, but I feel a little deceived.
A
Yeah.
B
By them not being rivals.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
Do you guys have any more loves? Because I had a question.
B
I think so. It's. Maybe this isn't necessarily a love, but I think this could also be a book that you could recommend to someone who wants to get into fantasy.
A
Oh, for sure. I would have eaten this up like, two years ago.
B
Absolutely. And, you know, our reading chase change and our, we want different things out of books, but I think this could be something that I could recommend to a lot of people. Oh, yeah, I agree. It's just, I'm in a different place than I was two years ago.
A
Yeah. I was gonna ask, where do you guys see the next book going? I don't know. I, I. You are a little uncertain.
B
What's funny is I feel like reading this book. Irene, I think, was my least favorite point of view, but in the next book, she might be the most interesting point of view.
A
Oh, for sure. I agree.
B
I could, I mean, it's just going to be your classic. The resistance is building up. August is going. August and Ren are going to have this moment in the Demian order. And, you know. Yeah, it's going to, it's gonna go toe to toe with the Academy, the Demian order, and the rebellion. I could also see it going where the Demian order and the Resistance team up to go against the Academy.
A
That'd be interesting.
B
That would be fun. I could, I could like that. I could vibe with that. Yeah, me too. Yeah. I really hope she keeps it as a duology. I agree.
A
Is this. I didn't know if it was as.
B
I mean, as of right now, when you click on, like, the Goodreads listing just has one book, untitled. So there's just, I think there just needs to be more duologies out there. Yeah. And in my opinion, I honestly would have. The pacing was a bit weird, but it was like a quick read because it wasn't dense. I almost would have rather maybe give me 100 extra pages to give a little bit more from each character or continue on and then have it be a duology. Instead of having it be three 400 page books or three, 500 page books, give me two 650 page books. Yeah, yeah, I agree. I agree. I do really like the way it Ended, though, a good cliffhanger. It, you know, made it interesting. Piqued my interest. Yeah. Were you guys surprised? I wasn't necessarily surprised that August was a Demian, but I was surprised that when Edith called him brother, there are they. They're not like biological siblings. Yeah. I don't know. I took it as they were biological.
A
Siblings, but that too.
B
Okay, so I'm not the only one. I did scream when that happened. When she called him brother. I. I gasped because that. That surprised me. But the plot twist of him being Demian didn't necessarily surprise me. And then as soon as we found out that the. When there's that scene with Ren and the girl in the infirmary and we find out she doesn't remember the other decennial. Competent competitor, competitors names, I was like, oh, they're wiping everybody's brain. There's only ever been like, this is. This is how it always is. They're just wiping everybody's memory. And then two chapters later, that's what we find out. So I feel like the plot twists were a little bit predictable, but they were still good.
A
Yeah.
B
Do you know what I mean? Just because you predict a plot twist doesn't mean it's bad. It made the story very interesting. I just wanted to be floored. I. Yeah, I don't know if I necessarily guessed anything, but I wasn't like, surprised, shocked. Maybe the sibling thing. But I feel like I wasn't necessarily surprised, mostly because with August's character, he just, you know, had the mysterious and was like, I can't tell you things. And so I was like. When that came to pass, I'm like, okay, so this is. This is one of the things that he hasn't told her. Like, oh, the sibling. That's the second thing that hasn't been told to, like. I don't know. I guess it was foreshadowing that we were going to find out some things, but I wasn't necessarily. But I didn't necessarily guess it. Yeah. So you got me there.
A
Alrighty. You guys have anything else to add as far as likes, dislikes, overall?
B
Yeah, maybe we shouldn't add any more dislikes because we've said a lot not to be like.
A
Well, no, like you said Michaela, though, like, props to the author because it would be. So is this. This is her first.
B
I think it's a debut novel, I think.
A
I think so.
B
Or tradition first, traditionally. Yeah.
A
I can't imagine, like, what a feat to write Six Point of Views.
B
Yeah.
A
Start your doing your world building like that is A feat. So I just have mad respect.
B
Yeah.
A
Because I think that that would be very challenging. So. Yeah, the COVID is very beautiful. Like, we got you guys. We got so many DMs yesterday when I posted, I was sitting in the same chair and I was reading the book and I posted a selfie on our story. So many people are like, that is such a beautiful book cover. Like, what book is that? So very well done. We love a good cover.
B
Yeah.
A
Sprayed edges are chef's kiss.
B
So I guess we also added this last book club book. If you guys would read it again. I feel like all of our answers. No, no. But I might continue on to the next one. I mean, the thing is, is the reason why I gave it three stars is because, like, I had a good time reading it. It just wasn't anything that I'm going to think about again. I don't necessarily want to read it again, but, like, it was fun. I didn't feel like it was a waste of time for me. A two star, a one star is DNF and a two star is. I wish I wouldn't have finished it. I didn't finish this book. Being like, that was a waste of my time. I wish I wouldn't have finished. Just wasn't my favorite fantasy book. Yeah. You know.
A
Well, I don't know about you, Michaela, but I'm very excited to see what Kennedy has to say for her unhinged past.
B
I am very excited. Pretty. Oh, I feel like I showed up and it's not.
A
I will say I did. Did take my fan cast very seriously. There's only one person I don't have a fan cast for, and that is August. But everybody else, I do have one. I feel really good about it.
B
So let's just say my cast is the Wednesday Addams cast. And I'm sorry, I apologize. I feel like I do have a picture in mind for Emilio, but I. And I know he is an actor. I just haven't been able to find him. Like, I know I've seen him somewhere. I just don't know his name. I don't know, like, where it's from. If I find it, I'll post about it. But he's got curly hair. Anyways, sorry, My fan cast is lackluster and I apologize. But these two will carry the fan cast. I mean, mine's not serious. Yeah, but, you know, that's okay. And it's not even that unhinged. It's just the people that popped into my brain.
A
All right, well, let. Let Us Start with Ren. Who was your Ren?
B
I actually don't have a wren.
A
Oh, sorry. I do. Mine is Caitlin Dever. She's on the Last of Us and that book. Smart.
B
Let me see. Do you know who I'm talking about? Okay. Oh, yeah.
A
I don't really know. Give her red hair.
B
Yeah.
A
Did she have red hair?
B
Yes.
A
Oh, the fan art looks like she had brown hair. She has red hair, auburn hair.
B
Little redhead to August. And August.
A
Oh, that's right. That's right.
B
Don't call her a little redhead.
A
Yeah, I don't know why. There's just, like, something about what I've seen her in that I'm like, I don't know. I don't know.
B
I just.
A
That's who I think.
B
I like it. I like it.
A
I don't have anyone for August. He was kind of hard for me because I was also thinking, like, I wanted to cast people who were all, like, a similar age, and I didn't want to cast anyone older than, like. Like, too old. Yeah, that makes sense.
B
I mean, like, it's like hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years old.
A
I mean, technically, yes, but that's my room.
B
They just stay the same age when they die. Okay.
A
Yeah.
B
Mine is Danny Phantom. I don't know. I love Danny Phantom.
A
Don't ask.
B
Hey. Awoke a lot of things in me. Danny Tandem. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know why. Okay, okay.
A
Just giving Danny Emilio.
B
I know this probably isn't the most, like, physically. I don't know if he, like, fits the bill for Emilio. And I feel like we may maybe have the same person. I don't know why, but the summer I turned pretty, the guy she meets in France. That's who I was thinking of.
A
I was thinking of. I was thinking the summer I turned Cam Cameron.
B
Oh, I was thinking of. What is his name?
A
Benito.
B
Benito. That's a white picture. Benito. That's him. Yeah.
A
Okay. I was picturing this guy, David Cameron. I don't know how to say his last name. The guy, Cam Cameron.
B
They kind of look alike.
A
Yeah, they do.
B
She has a type. Belly. Oh, she sure does. She sure does. Yes. Which leads me to my Olivier. Who is the name. Christopher Briney.
A
Christopher Briney, Yeah.
B
I was watching the Summer I Turned Pretty, so I'm not saying it's good. That's just who I picture, honestly. Yeah, I could see it.
A
I can't.
B
I.
A
But that's because I can't picture him having an accent.
B
Well, I just picture them together.
A
Oh.
B
Like, I guess. Yeah. I Could just be a couple. Hey, I guess they would be.
A
Their chemistry.
B
The banter between them in the summer item. Pretty.
A
The only person I could think of for Olivier, and I know he's a little bit older, but he can pass as a youngin is Timothee Chalamet. Because he's actually Timothy.
B
Timothy. Yeah.
A
I would love to see him in a movie where he's like, yeah, I don't know.
B
Yeah, he could do it.
A
Yeah, he could pass as a Youngin.
B
Yeah. No, I get the vibe that you guys were putting down and I love it. Skinny boy. I love it. Yeah, I love it. I love it.
A
I do have an unhinged one for Masika.
B
I don't have a.
A
But I do have a serious one as well.
B
Let's hear your unhinged one.
A
You guys won't know who this is probably, but have you ever heard of Blippi?
B
Yeah, I've heard of Blippi.
A
Have you heard of his best friend Micah?
B
No.
A
Yeah, Micah was who I was thinking of. And maybe it's just because Masika. Mika, she was my Masika for a while, but then I was like, no, let me look into this. And I would cast Sophia Bryant. She's also on the Summer I Turned Pretty. I didn't.
B
Sophia. Oh yeah, she's her. She's Belly's friend.
A
She's Belly's friend. She's also.
B
Yeah, she'd be good. She's great. Ah.
A
What is the other show she's in that I can't think of. Anyways, I think she would be. She would be good. I can see her in this kind of film. Yeah, for sure. And then for Irene, I would cast. I don't know if you say it. Lana or Lana Condor.
B
Oh yeah.
A
To all the boys I loved before. I pictured.
B
The one not Rumi off of K Pop Demon Hunters.
A
Mira. Zoe.
B
Mira. Mira. Love that. Let's do mixed art formats with. Absolutely. Mira. Just imagine what that looked like in my brain. Uh huh.
A
I always love an unhinged fan cast.
B
So that just that that actually hurts my brain thinking about it. So the longer we do this podcast, the more I'm realizing I have to actively think to picture it in my brain while I read.
A
Interesting. I can't like read or listen to a book without having like some sort of picture visual.
B
I feel like I have an easier time picturing settings versus people. Ooh. Like people. Like maybe I have like the visual, like what they're wearing and stuff, but sometimes I feel like their faces. Faces, yes. Or a Lot of the times it's like I don't picture it. I don't. If I am picturing it, most of the time, it's not like I'm picturing it like I'm watching a movie. I'm picturing it like I am the person.
A
Yeah.
B
You know what I mean? So then. Yeah.
A
Yeah.
B
Wow. All right. Well, yeah, that's immortal consequences. And now it's time for tuning in. If you really like this book, I am so glad you did. And I think there's a lot of great things about it. I'm sorry if we were just ragging on this book the entire podcast. I feel bad. I also think it was a good book. I think it was a really hard time for all of us. I think we're in a little bit. Yeah. You know, like we said before, we're in a reading slump.
A
I'm really busy.
B
And the thing is, is just because say we don't. If. If. If there's a book out there that maybe we don't like, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't read it, because you really never know if you read the back of a book or you see things about a book and you're like, I'm gonna look. I think I like this. You should still give it a shot. You should still read it. Just because we don't like it doesn't mean you won't. So. All right. All right.
A
Well, our book club book for October. The book is Alchemized by Sen Lin Yu.
B
It's a big boy. 40 pages. That might be the longest book I read all year.
A
Yeah.
B
I don't know if I've read over a thousand pages. The, like, Kingdom of Ash isn't a thousand pages, is it? Yeah, it's 9 something, 940 something, 950 something.
A
Isn't it? Crescent City?
B
I don't know. This might be the longest book I've ever read. I'm stoked.
A
But I think it's going to be well worth a read. So if.
B
Guys, it was picked up. Yes, yes.
A
It's been picked up already for a movie adaptation. And it's. Who is it that's doing it? Because I'm so excited.
B
I don't know. Dune. Oh, yeah.
A
People who made Dune. Jurassic Park.
B
Yeah.
A
Like it.
B
You. You want to know what? This just goes to show your dreams can come true. Like, just think about the journey that Sen Linu has taken to get where they are today. Yep. Crazy.
A
Yeah, crazy.
B
And we're gonna read it, so.
A
Yeah, I am. I'm really excited. I'm a little nervous, but I'm really excited. So we can't wait for you guys to join us on Fable as we read Alchemized. And then we will do our book club episode the first Wednesday of November. And it's gonna be a fun time. So stay tuned for that and we hope you read along with us and we will see you guys next week.
