Anyways, we thought it would just be a fun little twist on Christmas, you know, Santa Claus, Naughty or Nice list. But before we get into that, we're going to be updating you guys on some books we've been reading. So let's start with you, Kennedy.

Okay. Right now I am slowly but surely listening to Zodiac Academy, which I know Michaela is also doing this as well. And part of the reason why I decided to listen and not read because. Because they are in Kindle Unlimited is the fact that I had access to the first two graphic audios on Libby. And I think Michaela feels the same way as me. I think listening to the graphic audios is making the books a little bit more cringy than they are. There was a very specific scene with a wolf pack.

It haunts me in my nightmares.

[Kennedy]

If you guys have read the books, it was in book two, you'll know what I'm talking about.

It was graphic.

I'll just say that. But they're fun. They're. They're kind of like a trashier version of Harry Potter.

Yeah. I will say I think just listening to the normal ones are, is a lot better experience for me.

Because you just finished book three, right?

Okay. I'm excited. I'm only like 20% of the way through book three, but they're fun.

Isn't book three the one everyone says is like makes them cry.

I don't think. I mean I will say finishing book three like. And I'm not saying it as like my. I don't cry at books. I just have genuinely no idea why anyone would. So I feel like it's maybe four.

I don't know. Unless I'm just like completely heartless. But I genuinely don't know why anyone would. Okay, at the end of this one.

So I guess we'll see. And I've just been slowly but surely making my way through Lightbringer by Pierce Brown. And part of the reason I'm going slow is cuz I don't want it to end. But also part of it is because I haven't had time really time to sit down and read. But it's good. It's exactly what I was expecting. So I'm excited to finish it and see what everybody's been talking about.

So the good thing is you have. I mean, he doesn't have a release date on the last one, but at least you know you have one more book.

[Kennedy]

I do have one more.

So it's not completely done.

I don't think I'm reading anything right now. I think after. Yeah. So I don't really know what I'm gonna read next, but I recently, I think the last time we updated this, I had read the first Spark of the Everflame. I finished all three of. Now I have just. I can't say anything. I did read Variation by Rebecca Yarros and it was very good. Not my favorite of hers, but Rebecca writes. I mean, every. Most women can write men very well because, I mean, we know what we want and we know what we like. There's just something about the way that Rebecca writes men that it's like they. They're. They're perfect. They're. But they have. I don't know how to explain. She's just phenomenal at writing men. And I just. This. This guy in this book, it's. It's going up my list in my contemporary romance book, boyfriends go give it a listen or read. It's on Kindle Unlimited and you can listen and like do all. Do it on Kindle Unlimited. It's like about a Coast Guard swimmer and a ballerina. It was. It's great. So not my favorite of hers, like I said. But it was still really good. I finished Caraval series. I'm gonna read Spectacular. Have you guys read Spectacular yet?

No, I was waiting for.

I'm going to read it.

I was waiting till after Thanksgiving.

Yeah, I want to. I want to be in the Christmasy mood.

Yeah. Yeah. Which would be about. Now this episode comes out, I probably would have read it.

Yeah, so I. I was a little let down by the trilogy, I'm not going to lie. But it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. And yeah. The Songbird and the Heart of Stone. Oh, yeah, that's my other one. These guys have read so much.

Those are literally like the only books I've read since the last time I updated my reads on here. But yeah. Yeah, Songbird and Heart of Stone. It was a five star read for me. And go listen to our episode with Chris Broadman if you haven't already. That just solidified my rating of that book. Even more after Getting to talk with her. So go read her books if you haven't. Do you have a favorite? I feel like I haven't read as many of her romance books as you guys have. I think I've only ever read in the Likely Event and the Last letter. No, not the last letter. The Things We Leave Unfinished.

I think I would say I like the Things we leave unfinished more than the likelihood. Yeah, I think.

Of those books where I'm like, I know I would enjoy it. I just don't. There's so many more books that I'd rather read that I just don't have time for. And it almost sounds more fun for me to hear someone just, like, tell me their experience of reading it and their. I don't know. Maybe not. I don't know anything about it.

Maybe after this we'll just sit down and tell you the first two books.

[Kennedy]

Maybe also we'll have. When we finish the series, maybe we'll have different feelings about it, because I know a lot of people say, book three and on get better and better and better. Book one and two were just trash reality tv, fantasy version. But maybe they get better and maybe we'll say it's Worth it for you to read.

Tick tock of one of the books and it looked, I think, they giant. Maybe it's one of the. Yeah, maybe it's like the newest one.

That's partly the reason why I haven't spoiled it for you, like, completely yet. Just in case, like. Yeah, I appreciate it. Oh, actually, you should read this. Just, like, just push through.

Yeah. The fifth book is 886 pages.

Will I be reading the other series that goes along with it? No, probably not. But right now I'm along for the ride.

Yeah. And I'm in the middle of reading the War of Lost Hearts series. I'm on the second book right now. I'm in a little bit of a reading slump. Not gonna lie. I know. I just need to push through the middle portion. I'm like 31% of the way in. But I actually, I liked the first book a lot. The second one has been harder for me to get into, but. And then I also just started. I'm slowly knocking off my fall TBR as it's getting into December. I started Lost and Lassoed.

So once I finished Domino World Series and Lost in Lasso, I completed my fall tbr.

You know, and, you know, maybe she's going through something right now. Maybe she's just like, you know what? Give me some patience. Like, be patient with me. Maybe she just needs a little breather. And I Can understand that, but at the same time, I'm sorry. Going on the naughty list for not giving us a date after psyching us out twice.

Yeah. So I just love that I haven't known anything about these books. And I was. Marco polling them one day, and I was like, asking about it, and Kennedy said, the only thing you need to know is that they have Fae book. And I was like. Like Facebook? Yeah. That just cracks me up.

The comments kill me. The hashtags? Yeah, they use hashtags on their post and it's like.

Naughty list is my job for keeping me from reading. Grateful for my job. Wouldn't survive without it, you know, but, you know, just as grateful as I am for it, I just. It's going on the naughty list because it has caused me a lot of turmoil this year because every time I'm working, I wish I was reading instead. For the most part. Doesn't mean I dislike my job, but relatable, you know, I think of how many more books I could have read. Some of you who just, like, read for a living. Jealous.

My turn? The back of books. I don't like them.

[Kennedy]

Just get rid of the back. I don't like never ending.

Let's actually just talk about how the. Yeah, like the synopsis. Well, okay, so we haven't talked about this on the podcast, but we just had a little retreat with some of our reading friends where we just spent a weekend. If you've seen our, like, social media, we've been posting about it. We did a little book exchange, kind of like white elephant style, but not like white elephant gifts. Being on book exchange with our favorite underrated read. And we started reading the back of the book to kind of like give everyone an idea of what the book was about. And it was just hilarious because we finally were like, just summarize it.

[Mikayla]

They're so.

[Reggie]

And some. Some of the books gave away the entire plot.

[Mikayla]

Yes. So I will also say I to kind of go along with that. My naughty. This is an extension of it when people explain books, but they go into much detail about the book. Like, why not just give, like, an overview? It has these vibes. I think you'll like it. But they're like, okay, there's this person and this person, and this is what I'm like, no, don't give away the book.

You know, so give me, like, the first four chapters.

[Mikayla]

Yeah, yeah. With like, vibes. Anyways, sorry, that was my long tangent.

She was like, oh, I love this game. And she was just talking. She's like, I've been really hyper fixated on games. And she had her coffee table just full of games, and she reviewed every single one.

Yeah. And then I just watched the other night. I was getting ready for something. It was in the evening. I don't know. She went live on Instagram, and she was just cooking in her kitchen. She had a. Like, a winter hat on, like earmuffs.

I think she did herself a disservice by doing that. I think I've seen so many people on TikTok that said, like, I'm just giving up on the series.

And I think she should have just left it out of trilogy. I don't know what she was thinking. I mean, not in the nicest way possible.

And maybe once the other two books come out, because I do believe she said they're coming out next year, I will regain the motivation to continue on. But I've just seen a lot of people say that the way the third book ends is. Was not satisfying X, Y and Z, blah, blah, blah. And I would. I mean, I would love to know the reasoning behind her writing two more books in the series. It's crazy because I really. I really enjoyed her banter and the way she writes characters. Banter. I don't know. I. I don't know.

I feel like I just didn't like the first book enough to read four more books about it, you know?

I just, even if I have no clue what they're talking about and it's just some sort of out of context something or other, it's fun. It's like my Twitter, like I scroll on my Goodreads and I. It's. I'm really disappointed when I go to scroll and there's not like a new review for me to read or like update. It's just fun.

I listen to audiobooks in the shower sometimes. And my husband's always really confused when he like especially here talking when I'm like time speed.

If you're not locked in and you walk in on someone and listening to a book at two times speed, it's like. And she went.

My husband list. Listen to me listen to a book on two times speed. And he like, that's his. He'll be like, I'm speaking. He'll. He says he's like speaking my language because he'll just randomly start. And I'm like, what? And he's like, just like talking like your books. He thinks it's ridiculous. But I'm like one time speed. Naughty list.
