Foreign.
Reggie
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to I'll Read what she's reading. I'm Reggie.
Michaela
I'm Michaela.
Kennedy
And I'm Kennedy.
Reggie
And today we're discussing Iron Flame. Oh, wait, actually, I guess it's Onyx Storm Theories.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Reggie
Yeah. Not Iron Flames.
Michaela
And a recap of some things that went down in Iron Flame.
Reggie
Yeah, nothing too intense. And we just want to start off by saying if you're new here, hello and welcome. We're so happy to have you here. We have been doing this podcast now. Are we really approaching two years?
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie
That's wild.
Michaela
That's so crazy.
Reggie
We are approaching two years of this podcast. And yeah, like I said, if you're new here, I guess let's just give a little. A little bit about what our podcast is about for anyone new that is listening. We're just three best friends who like to talk about books. And I know that sounds just so like we're gonna start a podcast because we like talking about books. But there's a lot that has happened these last two years because of our love for books and for the love that you guys have given us, and it's been really cool to see. So we have all of our episodes. We're kind of all over the place, but hopefully in the best way. We have, like monthly book club episodes, so those are the first Wednesday of every month where we recap the book that we read the month before. You can find us on Fable and, you know, we do a lot of wild stuff like smash or pass on our favorite book characters and guessing the first line of books on our bookshelf. It's a fun time. And while we're not the most educated people on the planet, we do think that this is a really fun space and can feel like you're sitting down and chatting with your friends about books. Once we all became readers, it was like such a fun thing. And we know not everyone has a bestie to chat with about books. So we like to keep it fun.
Kennedy
We like to keep it light hearted. Nothing too crazy. We don't deep dive on anything. But that's just the vibe of the podcast. We want it to be like we want to be your book friends, your book besties, if you don't have one.
Michaela
And sometimes we're figuring out things as we go. Yeah. As we talk, we get dms from you guys. Like, you guys correct us on things, which I think is great. I. I think we're. We're still, you know, when we read books, we're sometimes confused about things and it's fun. Pick each other's brains. And maybe you guys are confused about some of the same things. And it's fun to, you know, be like, oh, I. I interpreted it this way. So.
Reggie
Yeah. So we're gonna start off this episode by giving you just the most minimal recap of Iron Flame. Okay.
Kennedy
If you're looking for a more intense one.
Reggie
Flights of fantasy, Fantasy girls, podcasts.
Kennedy
They are the deep dive queens.
Reggie
They write notes.
Michaela
Yes.
Reggie
Which we were just talking about this, and we are just not note takers when it comes to reading. We've all recently just reread Iron Flame, and I honestly, it wasn't until, like, halfway through, I was like, should I be taking notes? But I feel like it takes away from my reading experience. And so would you guys say that? I mean, I haven't really. There's times I've taken notes.
Michaela
Yes.
Reggie
For, like, our book club episodes.
Michaela
But, yeah, I'm just straight.
Reggie
Yep. Vibes. Just fully immersed.
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Headphones on.
Michaela
Sometimes. Yeah. Because I feel like when I read, I like to have the world disappear around me. And I feel like having to, like, stop and take notes about something, kind of. It pulls me out of that. And it's really hard for me to get back into it because it's my favorite thing when I'm reading. And I realized I've read, like, 150 pages an hour and a half has passed, and I'm like, I was just so invested in this book that, like, nothing else around me was even, like, in existence to me. Yeah. So I. Yeah.
Reggie
I feel that's what reading's about to me. Same, at least. So that's why we're not going to be giving you a full analysis on Iron Flame, but we will briefly recap things how it ended. In case you haven't refreshed your brain on the book and you're wanting to jump into Onyx Storm, which will be released in the next few days.
Michaela
Five days.
Reggie
Five days. I'm so excited and nervous.
Michaela
I'm pooping my pants.
Kennedy
I'm ready to be wrecked.
Michaela
Yes. Sim.
Reggie
Who?
Kennedy
All right, so Michaela's our resident recapper. Right. Now. If you guys have seen the videos of Olaf recapping stories.
Michaela
That's the vibe. Yeah, that's the vibe. So. So what's her brother's name?
Kennedy
Brennan.
Michaela
Brennan's alive. He heals her. Violet and Zaden are mad at each other. Actually, it's just Violet that's mad at him. And then they decide it's then the best to go to Back to Basgaeth and Zaden to graduate. And Zaden gets assigned. And Violet has to continue on with her school. And they have to be away from each other for a week. The only weekends.
Kennedy
Wow.
Michaela
Lots of back and forth. Lots of arguing over the same thing over and over and over again. Ask me and I'll tell you. Yeah. And Darna is asleep. She's asleep, baby. And she peeks in every once in a while. And then we find out that what's his name, Jack is alive. And Violet and her gang get kidnapped and they get put under interrogation. And then they pass. And then Violet gets kidnapped by herself because she stole a book.
Kennedy
Because.
Michaela
From the archives. Because she needs it. Oh, let's not forget the Eric character. Eric, Eric, Eric, Eric character. I feel like he's gonna play a big part in the Onyx Storm. He is. Royal gets them down into those archives. And they haven't figured that out yet. They don't know how she got the book. But she got the book. But they have no proof. So she gets tortured. You know, fingers broken. Fingers broken. Fingers broken. She sees Liam, which a lot of people think is for signant. I'm not quite sure about that yet. But she sees Liam. Liam helps her through. Zayden comes to the rescue. Also. Dame comes to the rescue.
Reggie
Little redemption arc.
Michaela
A little redemption arc. Yep. They kill Bearish. Bearish. He who shall not be named the little devil. And then they. They go to. I forget the area.
Reggie
Well, they get half of the cadets at Basgaith War College to join them in Zayden's territory.
Michaela
His daddy mansion.
Kennedy
Tyrandor.
Michaela
Is that what it's called?
Kennedy
Tyrandor.
Michaela
Okay.
Kennedy
Zaden is the heir to the throne of Tyrandor.
Michaela
They then continue. They combine with the birds.
Kennedy
Griffins.
Michaela
The griffins. They combine with the griffins. I forget what their people are called. I don't know. It's okay. Hence.
Kennedy
This is Olaf's version.
Michaela
Cats. Zaden's ex enters the picture. There's a little tiff with those two.
Kennedy
Little cat fight.
Michaela
Zaden then tells her that there's no need to worry while he sits her on his throne. But they have to train together. They have to do their class. They're doing like a mini best gaieth in that place. And then they are trying to figure.
Reggie
Out how to lift.
Michaela
Yeah. They're starting to do wars. They're doing. They're learning how to do runes with ribbon. Magic things. And then they decide that actually the wyverns. Wyverns are not going to Attack them. They're going to attack Bas Gaius. And as they're going there, they all agree that they need to go back. There's no one there because they went to the other place. And Jack freaking Barlow cracks the rune and then Brennan puts it back together. And then. Oh, I forgot about little Slony Bear. Little Slony Bear. Actually her signet came about and she is a siphoner. And so she siphons Lilith, Lilith's power to get the ward, the ward back and running. While that is all happening and Darna is helping, she's actually the seventh dragon come to find out. Because there needed to be seven dragons, not seven of the best writers. Well, that's all happening. Zaden is fighting a Venin and Lilith dies. And then Zaden almost dies. She can feel it. But he doesn't die. He turns around and all of a sudden, red eyes.
Reggie
He is Venin. He is Venin.
Michaela
Was that a little too chaotic?
Kennedy
I liked it.
Reggie
You know what? It's a lot. I. I enjoyed that.
Kennedy
It was a lot quick to the point. And here's the thing. Let's maybe share a few of our thoughts rereading it.
Reggie
Yeah.
Michaela
Okay.
Kennedy
So reading it the first time, I was not disappointed. I was almost a little disappointed. And quite honestly it felt like I was reading 1200 books. It. There's so much that happened in Iron Flame and I forgot how much happened. Rereading it reminded me genuinely how much happened. But I will say, reading it a second time, I was way less confused. Yeah, same things made way more sense. I think my main problem with the book the first time was so much was thrown at me and I couldn't grasp onto it. I never had enough time to let things sit and simmer.
Michaela
I think it was like over stimulating.
Kennedy
Yes.
Michaela
Yeah. Oh, I forgot to mention. Xaden has a second signet.
Kennedy
He can read intentions.
Michaela
He can read intention.
Kennedy
But was it a five star read for me the second time around? No. But I did enjoy it a lot more.
Reggie
Yeah, same.
Kennedy
And I forgot how much I love this world. I was debating whether or not I wanted to reread or re listen to Iron Flame or Fourth Wing. But I'm so glad I did because it put me in the mindset to be ready to come back into this world. And I just. I really do love it. What Rebecca has created in Fourth Wing in the Empyrean series I think is so special.
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Yeah. I feel like I wasn't to go back to the thing about you being kind of disappointed the first go around I was not disappointed with the ending. I mean, it's a tragic. It's a tragic thing. But I just love that Rebecca's not afraid to do things in her books. So that's what makes me nervous about this next book. But I. I don't want to. I don't want to set my expectations too high for Onyx Storm. But I do have a feeling that. Because I think. Feel like there's a common theme in second books sometimes in series where you're kind of just getting a bunch of info dumped. And I was kind of disappointed in that the first time just because things felt a little bit choppy. It was like, and I know that we know it's going to be a TV series. They felt like little episodes, like, episode, whatever. And it felt a lot more seamless. My second reread and I'm thinking about it now, and I'm like, I've read so many other books that have had these info dumps, but not with as much content. Does that make sense? There was so much action and one thing after another in this book that sometimes it felt like a bit of whiplash. But reading it the second time, I appreciate it because it could have been like lots of talk, but there's so much action that happens. So it's just going to be wild to see how much more action is going to happen in Onyx Storm. Yeah.
Michaela
My. I think my issue was the. The not. The not the timing. Is that the right word? No.
Kennedy
The timeline.
Michaela
The pacing.
Kennedy
Yes.
Michaela
The pacing was just like something would happen and be like. And then it'd be like. You know what I'm saying? Like, something would happen, like, too quickly. And it was kind of like, wait, what just happened? And then I feel like the information, it was very important. It is very valuable. But the things that happened, happened too quickly.
Kennedy
Yes. And they didn't necessarily correlate with each other.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Or at least right now it doesn't feel like they correlate with each other.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
You know, it's almost like pieces, sides of a triangle. They're just there, but there's no lines connecting them.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
You know what I mean?
Michaela
Yeah. No, I totally agree.
Reggie
A lot of things will start to connect.
Michaela
Yeah. But I think that's why I had it. The problem in the very beginning when I read this book was things almost happen too quickly. And it's almost like they didn't call back any of the things that happened. It's just like it happened and then they don't ever talk about it again. First Off Violet getting tortured. Like, that's a really traumatic experience. And they don't really ever talk about it again.
Kennedy
They do for two seconds in the shower scene where he's. Or no, not a shower scene. They're in the bed.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
And he's trying to be very careful. But then.
Reggie
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's almost like everyone was just kind of like we kind of got a barrier. Whatever game phases on. And I can get that. But I think. Yeah. But also. Yeah. Overall, not a ton of callbacks to refresh your brain.
Michaela
Well, and also, like, Jack coming back. Like, yes, that's important. They still mentioned him, but it's not like it was as big of a deal as it was in the book as it was to the readers.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Michaela
You know, because it seemed like no one was surprised that he was back in the book, but everyone was like, what the freak? So that. That was just like my main issue with it. And I'm. Maybe she'll do a better job in the next book with everything that did happen. Kind of like going back, letting the emotions simmer. Because I think that's when you get a more emotional reaction, is when you call back on the situations that did happen in the emotional feelings they had while those things were happening. I think what they did do really well is the situation with Liam that was called back a lot. And I think that was great because it just made it, you know, more emotional. And that is a really traumatic thing. But I'm thinking about everything else that happened. I just feel like they kind of.
Kennedy
Just brushed over it because so much was happening.
Michaela
So much. Yeah.
Kennedy
I think the biggest part, beginning of Onyx Storm is going to be the fact that Xaden is Venom.
Michaela
Yeah. So, yeah, I don't know.
Kennedy
I guess we'll see.
Michaela
I don't know. I don't know.
Reggie
Yeah.
Michaela
What.
Reggie
Before we get into our theories and the theories that you listeners have submitted for us, what things did you guys pick up on the second reread, which let me also say real quickly, we do have an Iron Flame episode that we did last year after we had just read the book. So if you're wanting a little more specific thoughts on Iron Flame or things that happened. We did do a little Iron Flame episode. Just kind of sharing our overall thoughts. If you want to go.
Michaela
It came out in November of 2023.
Reggie
Oh, wow. Yeah, that's right.
Kennedy
Did come out and.
Reggie
Yep, yep.
Kennedy
If.
Reggie
Yeah, if you're wanting a little more on Iron Flame, you can head there. But things that I picked up on And I know we'll talk about this in theories with Violet's second signet, but with Zaden's, the amount of times I don't know how I didn't catch on to. To Zaden reading her so much.
Kennedy
We talked about this briefly before we pressed record and here's why I think I didn't catch onto it. Because they can talk mind to mind.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
That's why I wasn't thinking anything of it because I just was in my head. He can feel her feelings because they have that mind to mind connection.
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Yeah. But there's like specific moments where it's her internal dialogue, but not her talking to Zaden and him saying like answering something that she's questioning in her brain. And so that was really cool to try to catch on to knowing his second sickness, starting this book again.
Michaela
And doesn't at one point she say, I didn't mean to say that out loud. I can't remember what moment. But she's like, I didn't mean to say that out loud. And he like straight up responds, my.
Kennedy
Question is, are we all gonna feel dumb when we find out what Violet's second signet is? Because it's gonna. His was so glaringly obvious now that you know in hindsight, well, are we gonna feel the same about Violet?
Reggie
Rebecca has said that her second signet is obvious in Iron Flame and it's mentioned like it's we. It's not clear to the reader, but it is somehow mentioned. She says something along those lines. Am I correct?
Kennedy
So ominous.
Michaela
Because there's so many have seen it before, you just don't know it.
Reggie
Yeah. And I'm feeling a little indifferent about my thoughts on what her second signet is.
Kennedy
For me personally, when it comes to her second signet, I don't want to have a certain thing in my mind because I think if I have a certain idea of what I want it to be and that's not what it is, I'm going to be disappointed.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
So for me, you know, I think it might be one of two things. One, something about the whole Liam situation where she sees him could be a clue to her second signet, which I know there's a lot of discourse about that on social media. And also I've seen a lot of things about the truth teller aspect because it's mentioned in the pre chapter blurbs a few times. Could be something along those lines.
Michaela
I've also seen. I. I feel indifferent. I don't really care what her second signet is because I feel like some things are getting read in too, too much for sure. And so I'm like, are we gonna feel dumb if we read into something? And it's like not even close to that. Someone was saying that the wording was very specific about Andarana not being able to slow time. But when she's describing battle scenes, a lot of it she says, like time seems to slow. So a lot of people theorize that she can slow down time. Oh, but not in Darna anymore.
Kennedy
Okay.
Michaela
Because it says and Darna can't slow time anymore. Instead of we can't slow time anymore.
Kennedy
Now refresh my memory just a tiny bit because I did not listen or read 4th Wake. When it comes to the dragons, they have a certain power before they go into their dreamless sleep. Is that correct? Yeah. And then they lose that power.
Michaela
Yes.
Kennedy
I mean, what if it truly is.
Michaela
Get bonded to while they're young, they don't bond to writers.
Kennedy
Maybe that is truly the case because they transfer their power maybe to the person they bond with.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Because it's never happened. And maybe that's what happened.
Michaela
Well, and it's curious because. Yeah. What will. Because she has lightning from Taran, so she's obviously gonna get something from Andarna for sure. So will she have three?
Reggie
No, no.
Kennedy
I think because of Andarna she has two. I saw. It's mentioned in the book that her power isn't necessarily lightning, it's pure power. But that's just how she manifests it is enlightening.
Michaela
Yeah. I mean she can shoot lighting for her hands. So like it's her herself. Cuz it's specifically mentioned that you don't have to just use this guy. You can use yourself.
Kennedy
Right.
Michaela
During the training scenes with I forget his name.
Kennedy
I can't remember.
Michaela
Yeah, yeah. She's just more powerful when there is a storm.
Reggie
Okay, so with Violet's second signet, you're thinking it's one of those two.
Kennedy
Yeah, it's got to be either the truth teller or. You know what though? I, I, I don't feel strongly about it.
Reggie
I don't either.
Michaela
I don't either.
Kennedy
That's just the two that I've seen the most of.
Reggie
Yeah, I could. I saw a Reddit post this morning about Violet's second signet and I thought it was very interesting because it's one I hadn't heard and I don't think it's one anyone submitted, but someone was saying that the truthsayer signet is too common of a signet for Violet with how powerful she is. They say Nora was a truthsayer. I would be disappointed if that was her signet, too. Also, Zaden can literally read people's intentions. That signet is way too close to truthsayer. Violet and Zaden work together for them to have a signet this close wouldn't help them that much. So someone was saying that, I guess Rebecca Yarros said after she wrote Iron Flame, that she was scared that we would guess Violet's second signet due to one single sentence in Iron Flame. She said something like, there hasn't been a distance wielder in centuries that's talked about. Yes, distance wielding.
Michaela
And then guess guesses that as Zaden's second.
Reggie
Mm. And also, if you guys remember, their signets tend to be something that they need, something they're needing at the time. So some people have said that it's the summoning the dead type of thing because she needs Liam. She. Maybe she's going to somehow bring her dad into play, and she's going to get some answers from people of the past. But someone, this same person was saying for something that Violet really needs and craves is she constantly is talking about how she isn't fast enough. Like, she wasn't fast enough to save Liam. She wasn't fast enough to. When Sawyer lost his leg when Riddick was in danger. And in her nightmares, she's never fast enough. And so people are saying, like, there's some certain part where. But the thing is, she wouldn't get this. I'm trying to remember if this happens before or after the whole thing with Andarna, when she would be getting her second signet. But someone says, how did you run that fast? Like, someone says something like, how did you run that fast? And she's been saying, like, I need to hurry. Like, I need to be some. Like, I need to be faster. So someone's saying like this. A lot of people were.
Kennedy
Well, and I mean, there's commenting, saying.
Reggie
That she might manifest some sort of signant for a distance wielding and that she's able to somehow, like, teleport.
Michaela
There's a lot of things that girl needs, though, that is true. Like being able to mend herself. Or like. Yeah, because she's constantly breaking. I just feel like I. I love that idea. There's so many things, so many different things you could go about that. Well, because she needs the truth. Truth teller. Like, she craves to know the truth. Like, there's, you know, what she needs. There's so many things that she needs so I'm curious, but that is true. A distance wielder was mentioned, but also I would be surprised if her second signet was as rare as. Yeah, her lightning.
Reggie
Well, one of the comments on this post was saying and I've been trying to find where Rebecca. Oh, it might be this TikTok. Don't quote me on this, but a lot of people on the theory page on Reddit were saying that Rebecca Yarros has said that when we, once we learn about Violet Stignet, it may seem a little underwhelming. So then that makes me think distance wielding. That seems. That doesn't seem underwhelming. Yeah, I don't know. But yeah, like you said, Kennedy, I'm not like too. I. I don't really care what it's going to be. I just can't wait to see what it is.
Kennedy
Yeah, I'm just gonna need. I mean has she confirmed for sure that we find out what it is in Onyx Storm?
Reggie
Oh, I'm sure we will. I mean but she has said it's in there. It is in the second book. It's somewhere in there.
Kennedy
This is what I'm gonna need from Rebecca for this book for Onyx Storm. And I'm not trying to say if it's not in there, I'm gonna be disappointed. And I know there's people who have made them on the Internet. I need at the beginning of the book a glossary with every character, their dragon and their signet. I just think that would be so extremely helpful as a reader to be able to flip to that first page or whatever page and to be able to be like, oh, what is what's ridic signet? Oh, it's this. Just because I'm a visual learner and without having a chart in front of me to know what everybody, what's up with everybody? It's hard for me to keep track.
Reggie
And what color their dragon is and yeah their name. So I would appreciate that as well. Those are. I think the signets we talked about are probably the most talked about ones. I would honestly love it to be something that I haven't heard anyone guess yet. But I mean if it's somewhere in Iron Flame, I'm sure someone's caught it already. If it's not.
Michaela
Yeah, I mean someone's bound to be right about one of her.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Michaela
Her signet.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Michaela
Which one it is? Guess we'll find out in a little bit. Yeah, no, I, I feel like it has to be a little something a little bit smaller because I Feel like if it was as big as some of these things, it would have manifested. I guess. No, because Indarno was a little baby. I wonder if like one of her things is a storm, like, similar to her mom.
Kennedy
Oh, maybe.
Michaela
And that's why it'll feel significant. But it is. I don't know. I have no idea.
Kennedy
But then it also makes you question because not to say Andarna is more powerful than Taryn, because I don't think that's the case. But Andara's a big deal.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
You would think the signet she gives her rider would be a big deal. I don't know. I don't know.
Michaela
I don't know.
Kennedy
I don't know.
Reggie
We'll be waiting on pins and needles.
Michaela
Maybe it's one that develops as Andarna gets older. Because Taran is quite a bit older, stronger. But I have a feeling Interna may become something.
Kennedy
Love it.
Michaela
It's also kind of throwing me off with. Because I. I listened to the graphic audio of Andarna's being voice voiced like a child.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Michaela
Yeah. And she's supposed to be like, you know, like this epic thing towards the end and she sounds like a child still. So it kind of throws me off a little bit. Like I wanted her voice to be a little bit more like sassy, like a teenager. Yeah.
Reggie
There were times that she kind of gets like. But yeah, it does sound. I was thinking it sounds like my 3 year old a little bit.
Kennedy
So I was hoping that it would. You know, she wakes up from the dreamless sleep and it's almost like she had puberty. And her voice is a little deeper. Yeah, that's okay. I don't know.
Michaela
Do you guys. I feel like this is a really. Okay, so I'm curious to know your guys's thoughts on this. I feel like we talked a little bit about this when we first read Iron Flame, but the correspondence between her mom and her dad and then also her hair being silver and her mom almost dying when she had Violet.
Kennedy
Do you think?
Michaela
Okay, so a lot of people theorize that Lilith, Violet's mom, was Venin when she had Violet. The reason why I don't think she was necessarily Venin was because in the Correspondent it said, we have tried every.
Kennedy
We've like exhausted every option.
Michaela
Every option to get rid of it unless childbirth fixed it, you know, So I don't think she was because in the correspondence it was. We have exhausted every effort. So my thinking is maybe her dad's not really dead and he's venom and he's Venin.
Reggie
Mm.
Michaela
Or he was Venom when she got.
Kennedy
Pregnant, and now Violet's part Venin.
Michaela
Yes.
Kennedy
And that's why she has silver hair.
Michaela
Yes. Because I don't think her mom was Venom because then she would. She wouldn't have been cured.
Kennedy
I think people really latch on to that idea because I. I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, there is some sort of paragraph where her mom came back from Warren. She had red rimmed eyes, and I think that's why people latch on to that.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
But at the same time, I think Rebecca's smarter than that. I feel like that's too obvious.
Reggie
And also, they were fighting the men, and in the end, you think her mom would be like, oh, yeah, here's how we can. You know.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
I. I like the idea that her dad is not really dead and he's Venom over her mom being Venom.
Reggie
She has to fight her.
Kennedy
I like the fact that maybe her dad was Venom when she got pregnant and Violet is part Venin.
Michaela
Yeah. And that's why. Maybe why Lilith got sick.
Kennedy
Yeah, because.
Michaela
Because she was holding apart Venin child. I don't know. I mean, that's kind of. I feel like, extensive. But I also feel. I like the theory of Xaden's mom also being Venon.
Kennedy
Everybody's parents are Venom.
Michaela
Everyone's Venom. Everybody's a Venom. Let's just join the club.
Kennedy
I. I think either one of the. I. I feel like it's either Zaden or Violet's parent. One of their parents is going to be Venon.
Reggie
Her dad has. Was studying Feather Tales, wasn't he not.
Kennedy
Mm.
Reggie
Why was he looking into Feather Tales so much? And why did she bond with one?
Michaela
Yeah, I mean.
Reggie
I mean, I feel like Andarna. Well, and also the fact that Andarna. They said that. What has it been, 650 years of whatever. And that's exactly how old Andarna is or how long it's been since. Yeah. You know what I'm trying to say.
Kennedy
There's a time frame that correlates with Andarna's age.
Reggie
Yeah.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Reggie
And I had. Did see a theory that was saying that Andarna can be, like, reincarnated or basically somehow.
Michaela
Well, she said she waited for Violet.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Reggie
I don't know. You know, and all I know is that Andarna is a key to something. I feel like. Well, I don't want to get all over the place, but. Yeah.
Michaela
Whoa, whoa. No, I don't. I don't know, because I. I'm I'm still very curious about why Violet's hair is silver at the end.
Kennedy
There's got to be some type of reason for that other than just a stylistic choice by Rebecca.
Reggie
Yeah.
Michaela
Because it's weird if that's just how her hair.
Reggie
It's kind of like an ombre.
Michaela
Yeah. Because her hair. Her hair grows normal, but then it starts to die.
Reggie
Has she never cut her hair?
Michaela
I don't know. I don't know how that. I don't know. Maybe it's just a stylistic choice, but that would be a little sucky if that was the case, because I feel like that alludes to something being significant if it's not. Yeah. Cuz no one's hair just naturally does that.
Reggie
I don't know. Yeah. Someone is thinking. So there was like a whole theory on thinking that Andara is going to die, basically saying that. That her real only purpose is to kill the Venin and then disappear.
Michaela
But no, she needs to have a mate first.
Reggie
Well.
Kennedy
Well, we're going to talk about the man with Auric. You know what?
Reggie
I am dragon.
Kennedy
So here for the messy I love triangle. What's funny is the first time I read Iron Flame, he did not stick out to me at all.
Reggie
No, you know, same.
Kennedy
He just. I mean, I knew he was the king's son. He helps them get the journal, blah, blah. Quite literally. I read the book, forgot his name.
Reggie
Yeah, same. I saw a TikTok that was like, aric and Violet are endgame. And I was like, who is that?
Kennedy
And now I. After I read it the second time, he's gonna play a significant role.
Reggie
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Michaela
No, he is 100%. I. I don't know if he would play a significant role in the fact of it being romance.
Kennedy
I would just be here for Xaden being jealous.
Michaela
Yeah, same. But I also just like. I love Xaden so much, but I feel like it was just too quick of a thing with him.
Kennedy
So. Do you think they're not Endgame?
Michaela
I don't know. I feel like they are, but I. I want it to be messy because with cat, even though I hated it, I loved at the same time, like them fighting.
Reggie
Yeah.
Kennedy
The cat fights. Yeah.
Michaela
Yeah. No, I don't know. I. I also just real. Actually really like arc. Arc a lot.
Reggie
Yeah. I think that it could be one of those situations where. Because here's the thing, Satan's gonna try to distance himself from Violet, but they can't actually really be separated. Mm. And if this whole theory with Andarna, what is his Dragon. I don't know what his dragon's name is. If they are mated that would mean that she has to always be with Auric but she also has to always be with Zaden. And then she would be getting like attached to Aric because she would have to be with him and they would kind of have to lean on each other and she'd be like.
Michaela
I feel like there's gonna be some.
Reggie
Gotta be like some big like friends to somewhat lovers situation.
Michaela
I feel like there's gonna be some kind.
Reggie
But then Satan can read. Does he lose? He doesn't lose a signet as a Venin. Right?
Kennedy
I don't believe so.
Reggie
He would then be able to read what's going on in her brain and his.
Kennedy
Yeah. I was gonna say they'd be all connected and that oh be so messy. But also. I mean I would love that so much. But at the same time I think that would be so incredibly hard to write in just in general. It would just be really hard to have.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Three people's mind to mind connections plus three drag. Three, four dragon. That sounds like a lot to write.
Michaela
What if it's not just a dragon mating thing?
Reggie
What?
Michaela
I feel like I could see it. Not them being not mated as dragons, but her leaning on him.
Reggie
Yeah, because. And yeah because she doesn't really have.
Michaela
Dane kind of started. It starts like something and she's like but I can't because I love Zaden. But he's like. But he's there lost cause there's.
Kennedy
There's going to be some type of romantic conflict. Something there's no way we're going to have. Because there's five books, right?
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
There's no way there's three more books where there's no romantic conflict between Zaden and Violet and another person. Yeah, there's no way because I don't.
Reggie
I don't see cat like.
Kennedy
Nah.
Reggie
No.
Kennedy
And I think it's going to be. I don't think it's going to be from Zaden's fight. It's going to be going to be from Violet side.
Reggie
Yeah, that's. Yeah.
Michaela
And I don't. I don't think Dane is a part of that equation.
Kennedy
I don't either.
Reggie
Do we think that we're gonna get different point of views in Onyx Storm?
Kennedy
Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
Reggie
You get a Zaden point of view at the end.
Kennedy
Did you guys watch the tick tock I sent of you of Teddy Hamilton talking about it? Because he voices Zaden in the regular audios, not the graphic Audios. He alluded to the fact that he has more POVs in this book.
Michaela
I didn't watch it all.
Reggie
I didn't watch it all either because I was too dis. Distraught. I was distraught too over Teddy Hamilton. It would be interesting because I think. I mean, I got the chills finishing Iron Flame. When he turns around and looks at her, I was like, you're kidding. But his point of view when he's sitting down talking to Jack, that was just like. That still sends like shivers down my spine.
Kennedy
Let's also remember. Let's also remember that the excerpt. One of the excerpts she's posted is Jack talking. And why in the world would Violet be talking to Jack?
Michaela
Yeah, well, she might because she might be trying to figure it out too. So I don't know. I. I feel like there's a really high probability of it being more point of views because I feel like it's hard to write a. Not a romance, a fantasy series with just one point of view for five books.
Reggie
Also, how cool would it be if we do get his point of view a lot more in this next book to see how his mind works with his signet.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
I hope we get a little bit more from.
Reggie
I'm getting so giddy. I'm very excited. Definitely anticipate. I'm anticipating there's. There's going to be some big romantic conflict. If there's not, then I don't really know what's going to happen. And I can't.
Kennedy
Here's my problem. I can't take another book of Zaden and Violet just going back and forth back. And I can't take a romantic conflict just between those two for another. For an entire book. Yeah, I need some type of other variable. Like here's. Here's what I think. Either give me another variable, give me a love triangle, something, or just let them be in love. Like don't make it between those two again. I can't do another book.
Michaela
Change the.
Kennedy
Yeah, I can't do another book of the. Let's be dishonest. Let's not tell each other everything. Ask me and I'll tell you I don't want it.
Reggie
I'd be surprised if that's the case, though. I don't think it will be, but.
Kennedy
I don't think it will be, but I just need. Do you know what I'm saying?
Michaela
Yeah. Almost like a. I don't want to compare, but an acotar situation where you leave kind of the people be and then it changes to different point of Views.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Michaela
I don't know. Maybe this would be the. If it is Violet and Zaden, this would be the end of, like, their point of view. Because I can't. I just can't imagine another three books.
Kennedy
Well, how. I remember when we recorded the Iron Flame episode, we had this theory of, okay, this is how book three is going to end. Book four is going to be this and book five is going to be this. So, meaning this book is going to be the one figuring out how to cure the Venin. Book four is them fighting the Venin. Do you guys remember having this conversation?
Michaela
Yes, I do.
Kennedy
So I think this book is going to be very heavily reliant upon how are we going to cure Zaden? How are we going to make it so he's not Venon? I have a feeling this book might be a lot more talk, less action.
Michaela
Maybe it is a lot shorter because.
Kennedy
They'Re trying to figure out how to defeat the Venin, how to extend the wards.
Reggie
Yeah.
Michaela
I feel like. Also, I feel like the. The runes are going to play a really important part in something, either curing something, maybe. I feel like that's going to be the process to maybe cure Venin. Because you guys remember correctly, it was a thing that the Griffin Riders did or, like their old, old ancestors. And then the people in Besgayath kind of dropped it. And so when they say they've exhausted all efforts, I don't think that includes the runes. The runes. Because they literally. There's nothing about the runes in Bisgaath. Like, they're like, why have we not been told? This is because they dropped it. So I think that's probably what is going to play a part in it.
Kennedy
I mean, they've got to have some type of significant.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Significance.
Michaela
Because why else would she include it?
Kennedy
Yes.
Michaela
Yeah. Yeah. No, exactly. So I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, it's gonna. It's gonna be. I'm very interested to see how the third one ends because I don't know if you guys have heard that Rebecca's. So called taking a break from writing.
Kennedy
I've kind of seen her allude to.
Michaela
That just a little bit. Yeah. Damn, Rebecca, you're not allowed to take a break until you finish the series.
Reggie
I mean, she knows how they're.
Kennedy
She knows how it all ends.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Because when she pitched the show, it had to be.
Michaela
I wonder if she's taking a break from writing exclusively to help maybe with the show. I don't know.
Kennedy
Which. I would kind of hate that the.
Reggie
Show before they finish the books.
Kennedy
I feel like they do that sometimes. Yeah. Yeah.
Michaela
I don't know.
Reggie
Well, all right. Well, that's theory.
Kennedy
We gotta talk about the theory of Nolan.
Michaela
Nolan Noel Naolin.
Kennedy
Naolin.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Taryn's old writer.
Reggie
Yes.
Kennedy
Now, if you are active on social media, and if you've read Iron Flame, which I sure hope you have, read Iron Flame, if you're listening to this episode, this is not a. You've probably heard of this theory, but I am almost, like, dead set that this is truly what's happening. Because as you listen. As I was listening to Iron Flame, it's in. Within the first few chapters, Violet and Brennan have this conversation about Naolin. And Brennan was just kind of talking about him, and he's using. He was using present tense. Did you guys catch that? Like, he is. He never. He didn't say he was. He just kept saying, he is a good guy. He. He didn't use past tense. Which leads me to believe that Naolin saved Brennan by turning Bennett. By turning Venom.
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie
And they were lovers.
Kennedy
And that is why. I mean, I wouldn't mind that either, but. And that is why Tar, like, doesn't talk about him.
Michaela
Yep.
Kennedy
And I'm convinced that I've seen a lot of theories on the Venom that she sees in her dreams. I think it's Naolin. I've seen also theories that people think it's Zaden.
Michaela
I've seen that it would make more sense for it to be Naon because.
Reggie
They have that connection.
Michaela
Connection with Taran. Yes. So do you think Naeon was. The person on the cliff was Zaden?
Reggie
Oh, do we not know who it was?
Michaela
No, it's been. It.
Kennedy
The guy he was fighting.
Reggie
Yeah, we don't. But we don't know.
Michaela
Yeah, we don't know who he was. The. Because they. Everyone kept saying, like, I can't wait to get you to him. Like, you are so valuable to him. And I'm like, who is this him? They called him something. I can't remember what they called him.
Kennedy
It's gotta be.
Michaela
Hit.
Kennedy
For some reason, when I first read Iron Flame, I thought it was his dad, but I just really am convinced it's the nail. Naolin. See?
Reggie
Okay, so there's a quote from. From Brennan in Chapter 2 of Iron Flame that says Naolin didn't fail, but it cost him everything.
Kennedy
Yes.
Reggie
He didn't say he died or that it cost him his life.
Michaela
Yes.
Kennedy
I.
Michaela
He. That's.
Reggie
And they think that they were lovers because then think of, like, the emotional impact like, she's gonna rely so heavily on Brennan because it's gonna be like a similar situation where like Zayden gave up everything to save.
Kennedy
Yeah, because think about it. The exact same thing happened to Zaden. So what. What's to say that didn't happen to Naolyn?
Michaela
Yeah. It's so funny because I was rereading that. I was like, this is the most important conversation that probably happens in the entire Iron Flame and it's literally in chapter two. Yeah, I should have put that as one good reason. I didn't.
Kennedy
It's so funny because I didn't put it together. I. Well, also, we didn't know. Now we know Zaden is turned venon. So now we have that piece of information.
Michaela
Yes. No, I. I think it makes total, total sense.
Kennedy
Like, I'm convinced that's one of the theories that I see that could definitely be true.
Michaela
Yeah, I see that too. I don't know, I'm just. I'm getting really giddy. I just can't wait to know. I just can't wait to find out. I'm so excited. We're gonna be midnight release party in Sugar House. Sugar House. It's gonna be so tempting to not open that book and read it through the night.
Reggie
You know, if we are driving home that night, we can reading it reading out loud or we just like put on the podcast card, get the audible.
Kennedy
I don't think the audiobook is coming out at the same time.
Reggie
Oh, that's right. We'll just take turns reading it.
Kennedy
I. Once again, I said this at the beginning of the episode. I wasn't. It's weird because I still rated Iron Flame four stars.
Michaela
Right.
Kennedy
Still a great book. But I was a little bit let down and it almost took away a little bit of the magic of the series for me in a sense. But re listening to it, it brought it all back.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
And it made me so excited, you guys.
Reggie
I'm so sorry. Someone says that they think that it's going to be an enemies to lovers with her and Jack.
Michaela
Excuse me? I mean.
Kennedy
Oh, since they're talking about Jack, I saw someone say that the whole. Maybe this is so obvious and I'm just an idiot. The whole reason Jack saved her when she was because remember, she's, you know, going to fall and he saves her is because he's Venin and the Venin need her life. And so all the Venom are instructed not to kill her.
Michaela
Yeah, yeah. No one. No one wants her dead. They just want to capture. But they'll Kill anyone else. There has been no foreshadowing at all for them to be enemies to lovers. Like, there's no attraction between them. Like, Violet has never alluded to him being handsome. Yeah. No. Or, like, because even if they are enemies to lovers, there's. There's always some foreshadowing of, like, he's so handsome. But I hate him.
Kennedy
Yes.
Michaela
Yeah. No, she just straight up hates his guts.
Kennedy
Yes. So I'm not. I would be so sad.
Michaela
My percentage is, like, 1.5% where I think that would actually happen.
Reggie
Okay. One other thing I think. Sorry, were you done talking about that?
Michaela
Yeah, no, I was done.
Reggie
Okay. Someone's gonna die.
Kennedy
Oh, for sure.
Reggie
Who do we think is gonna die? I'm feeling like it's gotta be someone from the fourth wing.
Kennedy
It's gonna be Riddick.
Michaela
Yeah.
Kennedy
Because every author kills off the comedic relief side character.
Michaela
I think it's gonna be Mira.
Kennedy
I need. I would be here for that. I. I want to.
Michaela
Because he already, like, died.
Kennedy
Unless he dies.
Reggie
He's got to be reunited with his love.
Kennedy
I just need. I mean, I would be sad if Riddick died. Don't get me wrong. Like, he's hahahi, ho, ho, funny love guy. I want it to be someone that's a little bit more main, because I would like to be wrecked.
Michaela
Yeah. I think Dane is going to die. I would be here for that. And I think that's going to be his redemption arc, is him. I mean, he kind of has already had a redemption arc, but I think it's going to be him, like, sacrificing himself for Xaden.
Kennedy
Oh, I'd like that.
Michaela
Or have you guys seen the theory that technically, since Segal and Taran and Zaden and Violet and Andarna are all, like, kind of bonded, that they technically don't need all of the dragons to be there? And so, like, one of them can die. One of them could die.
Kennedy
Kill scale. Sorry.
Reggie
She dies of a broken heart. From.
Kennedy
No, I'm sorry. I just love Andarna and Taryn too much.
Michaela
No, I do. Too well. And it's also like, Taran chose Sigale, and Darna chose Violet. Violet. And no one chose Taran because at the end, Sigail's like, I chose you. To Zaden, she's like, I did this. I chose you. Don't do this.
Reggie
And Taryn does say something about her being distant.
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie
I just know that I'm.
Kennedy
What if it guys? What if it's Taryn that dies? No, no, I will.
Reggie
And Then all she has is Andarna.
Kennedy
Everybody's theorizing that Andarna's gonna die. What if it's tarned?
Michaela
I don't think it will be an Indarna. Because she says so many times, I just want to be like him. Like Taryn.
Kennedy
It's gonna be Taryn.
Michaela
It's gonna be Taryn. It's gonna be Taryn. She does it so many times. She's like, I just want to be like him. I'm crying already.
Reggie
But can he. Can Taryn and Scale have a baby? Can they have a little hatchling?
Kennedy
Maybe there's one.
Reggie
Was it you who was texting Kennedy saying that you were like, what if Violet's pregnant?
Michaela
It was Mikayla. Well, what if.
Reggie
Okay, hold up.
Michaela
I just wanted a baby to bring him back.
Reggie
Violet's dad, Venon. Her mom, not Venon. Together they have a baby. It's Violet, Zaden, Venin, Violet. Not Venom. Half Venon. Have a baby. Baby Venin.
Kennedy
A fourth Venom.
Reggie
Renes May I don't.
Michaela
You know, maybe Sigil is distanced because she is pregnant. Leg and egg. Is that.
Kennedy
But what I don't understand. Am I right? Am I wrong? Once they're Benin, they don't keep their dragons. Isn't that Thai. Severed?
Michaela
That would make sense about Naolin because.
Reggie
Yeah, I was just reading something that was saying they're like.
Kennedy
They're severed.
Michaela
They.
Kennedy
Because they use Wyvern. Wyvern.
Michaela
However you say it in this book.
Reggie
They all say the more that the darkness claims them or something, the more distance they get from.
Kennedy
I mean, I don't think it's complete. I don't think that tie is completely severed. Maybe she is laying an egg.
Michaela
Is that how dragons are born?
Kennedy
They're eggs?
Reggie
Yeah.
Kennedy
Oh, yeah.
Reggie
Duhling.
Michaela
Hatchling. I'm stupid. I don't know. I feel like our theories are going through this.
Kennedy
They're getting a little more and more unhinged.
Michaela
No, I. The reason why I was like, with the whole pregnant thing. So best Gaia makes them take.
Kennedy
Birth control.
Michaela
Birth control. They left Beeth and it doesn't ever mention them taking the concoction. Maybe that's why I was like, there. There could be a baby because they're having. But I mean, I think that would. I. I think that theory is so not even close. It's just what I want, because I want her to be pregnant and a baby. And I want there to be that moral dilemma, him being a Venom and wanting to protect his child. And like, he's either gotta be better or he can't be around his child. But that's just. That's just. That's just me.
Kennedy
That's just me.
Michaela
But I do not think that's going to happen.
Kennedy
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Michaela
I don't think that's gonna happen.
Kennedy
Rather unhinged. I. I like it.
Michaela
Sorry, I went on a little bit of a tangent. I love the whole pregnancy one. It was just I would text them. I was like, you guys want to hear my wild theory? It was so far out the window. It just was like, if it happens, a thought come to my head, I.
Reggie
Hope it's just done well.
Michaela
Yeah.
Reggie

Reggie [03:00]: "I honestly, it wasn't until, like, halfway through, I was like, should I be taking notes?"
Michaela [04:42]: "I feel like having to, like, stop and take notes... pulls me out of that."
Kennedy reflects on her second reading of "Iron Flame," noting how rereading has deepened her understanding and appreciation of the complex narrative. The hosts discuss how the book's pacing and information density initially felt overwhelming but became more coherent upon revisiting.
Kennedy [09:54]: "Reading it the first time... I was almost a little disappointed... But rereading it reminded me genuinely how much happened."

They debate the likelihood of various signets, such as distance wielding, truth telling, and others that align with Violet's character needs and motivations.
The discussion shifts to potential character deaths and relationship dynamics. The hosts predict which characters might face critical moments, including possible sacrifices or significant turning points that could reshape the narrative.
Michaela [50:05]: "I think Dane is going to die. I would be here for that. And I think that's going to be his redemption arc."
