Mikaela
Foreign. Hi, guys. Welcome back to I'll read what she's reading. I'm Mikaela.
Reggie
I'm Reggie.
Mikaela
And I'm Kennedy. And today. Today we've been chatting enough about these things. We were like, we should probably just make this a podcast episode because we haven't stopped yet. Yapping about it.
Reggie
Facts.
Mikaela
So, Reggie, do you want to explain what we're doing today?
Reggie
Yeah. We're going to be chatting about book to movie adaptations that are coming soon and just kind of like our thoughts and if we're excited about them or not. Not all these are ones that we've read, but now we're, you know, putting it. Moving it up the tbr because they're, you know, you got to read the book before you see the show.
Mikaela
Mm.
Reggie
But first, we kind of want to share a little bit about what makes a book to movie adaptation a good book to movie adaptation. What would you guys say? Anything that comes to your brain first.
Mikaela
You know, the thing is, is I feel like sometimes it can be difficult to have a good book to movie adaptation because everyone pictures things so differently. I would just stay say, like, whatever the author describes, you know, keeping pretty similar to that because, you know, at least the author had something she wanted or he or she wanted in your mind when describing something. So I don't know, really paying attention to kind of, like, the details and making sure those aren't, like, cut out or removed. Because I think sometimes as readers, we love the small details. Yeah.
Reggie
It makes you appreciate it more. Yeah.
Mikaela
I don't know. I feel like that's the first thing that comes to my brain.
Reggie
My first thought was, like, the production company, like, who's putting it on? Because sometimes when things get picked up by certain places, I'm like, oh, all right. This will be interesting. You know what I mean? But it feels a little more like sometimes I have a lot more higher hopes for things, depending on who is creating the adaptation. So. Yeah, also I feel like the cast kind of plays, like, a part in it because, you know, if it's like too big of a name of a celebrity or like, actor, actress, it's like it's either like, oh, this is gonna be good, or you're like, oh, you know, I don't know. I guess we can give some examples as we go through some of these adaptations, but, I mean, there's a lot of factors. Hold on. Ken, are you leaving?
Mikaela
No, I agree. Yeah, I. It's interesting to see how some of the adaptations will go based on the company that picked it up.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
But I feel like sometimes the people that maybe are a little bit more of a no name have a. A higher advantage because I feel like people have lower expectations. Yeah. Besides, the people that have a bigger name, they have a lot higher of expectations, especially for the fans of, like, the readers or the author who created the world slash book or series. So I think, too, a successful adaptation, the author is a big part of it. Yeah, that's, I think, the biggest green flag or red flag to me, because when I think about all the adaptations that I really love, the authors are heavily involved in the process, which I'm assuming most authors are involved in the process. But, you know, you hear about all these rumors about books being picked up and then it doesn't happen because the author is being too picky. I'd rather have an adaptation not happen and the author be picky than an adaptation happen and an author not care.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
So, yeah, no, I wholeheartedly agree with that. Shall we get into it? I also want to mention that all of these adaptations that we are talking about either have trailers out, confirmed release dates, obviously. There are so many books that have been picked up, but they're in limbo. Right. That famous limbo. We've got Acotar, Powerless, Magnolia Parks, Fourth Wing. Fourth wing.
Reggie
The list.
Mikaela
Yeah, Literally the list from Blood and Ash. There's so many out there that have been picked up, but these are locked and loaded and ready to go. There's a cast. There's some casting. They're happening. Yeah. Okay. All right. So first on our list is the one I'm most excited for, Project. Oh, my gosh. Hail Mary. Project Hail Mary.
Reggie
The trailer just came out this week.
Mikaela
It spoils the book absolutely, 100%. But did you guys know that the thing that everybody. Okay, there's two things people are upset about. One, if you've read the book, this will make sense. Jazz Hands. Yeah, that happens in chapter six. So the very beginning of the book. Two, if you've seen the trailer, this is already kind of spoiled. But people are upset because now you know that our main character didn't want to go and he was forced to go against his will. Yeah, through the trailer. Because in the trailer it just keeps saying, I'm not an astronaut. But you know what? I actually was not upset about the Jazz Hands thing because had I not read the book, if I would have watched that trailer, I probably wouldn't go see the movie because it looked boring.
Reggie
Yeah, like, I. I see why they included it.
Mikaela
You don't know. Like.
Reggie
Yeah. But Ryan Gosling, he's gonna be great.
Mikaela
He's gonna be so good.
Reggie
Also, can we just. Can I just say using Sign of the Times as the song for the movie trailer? I was so hyped. I'm actually so mad. I didn't try to record my reaction to the movie trailer because I was, like, jumping up and down, giggling and squealing. That just made me so happy. And then they're like singing it.
Mikaela
You have it.
Reggie
Oh, it's good.
Mikaela
It's good.
Reggie
And then they, like, start singing it as, like, in the trailer. Yeah, it was great.
Mikaela
I love that. I'm so excited. I actually don't like watching trailers. You also don't like reading the backs of books, so that makes sense. Yes. Yeah. Because I like to go into movies not having preconceived notion.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
About anything. It's like, I remember my friends in high school when the new Star wars were coming out, they refused to watch any of the trailers because they wanted to just, like, see it as they watched it for the first time instead of, like, getting snippets of a trailer. I don't know. It's been, like, wired into my brain. I don't know. I also didn't watch, like, the trailer for Dark Matter. Before I watched it.
Reggie
I watched the trailer on. I didn't know what trailer I was watching. And then I was like, wait, is this Dark Matter?
Mikaela
I don't know. Maybe I should get that out of my brain.
Reggie
No, I don't think that's a bad thing at all. I think that's really cool. I wish I had more self control.
Mikaela
Because nine times out of 10, it does kind of spoil the whole plot of a movie when you watch a trailer.
Reggie
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mikaela
But it's gonna be good.
Reggie
It's gonna be good.
Mikaela
It's gonna be so good.
Reggie
I mean, if you've seen the Martian, read the Martian. Also, I know we've talked about this before on the podcast, but I think all three of us would recommend listening to the book. If you haven't read it yet and you're wanting to read it.
Mikaela
Yeah, yeah.
Reggie
It's a great audio book.
Mikaela
It's a really fun experience. I did both.
Reggie
Oh, okay.
Mikaela
I actually read 90% of the book and when everybody said to do the audiobook and I was curious, so I bought the audiobook and I actually only listened to like 10 minutes of it.
Reggie
But yeah, the audiobook was very good. Really cool. Really cool.
Mikaela
I do have to say not to flex on my review of Project Hail Mary. I Put at the very bottom. And at the time when I had read it, I don't think it was announced that it was being turned into a movie. I put at the bottom of my review. I'm proud to say that I read this book before the inevitable adaptation comes out. Yeah, that's a flexible. It is. Well. And also, like, yeah, you were totally right about it being, like, inevitable because, like, the Martian was so good and, like, everyone loved the Martian, so I feel like his books are just, like, always going to be picked up for something. And I do think that this might be the case where the movie's better than the book. For me, personally, I love the book, but when I read the Martian, I still actually haven't seen the Martian movie, but I know I'm going to prefer the movie over the book. That's so interesting because my husband prefers the book over the movie Martian. I haven't seen the movie, so I couldn't tell you. I think he's fascinated by, like, the science stuff.
Reggie
But, like, did he watch the movie first or.
Mikaela
Yeah, he read them. I mean, he watched the movie first, and then he picked up the Martian, and he was like, I feel like.
Reggie
The book would be better in the sense that you'd probably have. It would almost feel like a little bit higher stakes in the book. I don't know.
Mikaela
Yeah, yeah. But also, like, Project Hail Mary science heavy. The Martian's way more science heavy. Cause he's, like, describing every single thing he's doing in so much detail that it was just too much for me. And that's why.
Reggie
I think that's probably why Cole likes the montage.
Mikaela
He's not. You're watching him do it instead of it being explained to you in words.
Reggie
So, yeah, I'm excited.
Mikaela
It's going to be really good. I also just love Ryan Gosling. I've been trying to watch every movie that he's ever been in.
Reggie
A very great casting choice.
Mikaela
Yes.
Reggie
I think I. When I finished reading Project Hill Mary, like, the announcement for it didn't come much later. So that was kind of cool because I feel like I had recently read it, and then it was like, that's when I learned about it. And I just remember being like, yeah, this is a great casting choice.
Mikaela
It's fantastic.
Reggie
So fun. We hope you guys go read that before the movie comes out, because it's going to be. It's going to be good. How many times can we say that?
Mikaela
And also, if you don't want any main plot points to be spoiled, read the Book before you watch the trailer.
Reggie
Yeah, yeah, definitely.
Mikaela
Because there is things that are spoiled, but not everything.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
All right, next on our list, the Walk by Stephen King.
Reggie
None of us have read that.
Mikaela
Correct. Comes out September 12th.
Reggie
I honestly think I would rather read the books than watch the movie.
Mikaela
I feel like the movie's gonna be really gruesome.
Reggie
I feel like I'm. I'm. I watched the trailer and I was scared. I was very terrified.
Mikaela
Now, this is the movie where they're in a competition, Right. And they have to walk and they can't stop. And if they stop, they get killed. Is it a competition, though? Because it seemed like a military kind of thing. Yeah. I couldn't tell.
Reggie
There's only one person. They walk until 1. There's one person standing.
Mikaela
Yes. And if they stop, they. They die. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they. Yeah, yeah. Like, I think they. Pew.
Reggie
Pew.
Mikaela
Glock. A Glocka. Yeah, yeah. Pew, pew, pew.
Reggie
Look up the cast, because I'm trying to remember.
Mikaela
I feel like I. I have this toxic trait where I start the first 15 seconds and then I don't finish it. Yeah. And from what I saw, that cast look great. But I don't. I haven't read the book, so I have no idea. I also have never. Okay. I've seen Pet Cemetery. That's a Stephen King. You've seen Pet Cemetery? Yeah. My. In my younger years, that's all my family would watch his horror movies. Ah. So I've seen Pet Cemetery, but other than that, I don't think I've seen. I haven't seen. Is. I haven't seen any Stephen King. Yeah. It is actually terrifying.
Reggie
I'd rather read a scary book than watch a scary movie. 110.
Mikaela
Well, I just feel like it's gonna be good. I feel like any Stephen King movie, I feel like if you love that genre, I feel like it never disappoints the people who love that stuff and love Stephen King. So I. I feel like it's probably going to be pretty good and people are going to.
Reggie
Well, I was on the edge of my seat during the trailer. I wanted to turn it off, but I couldn't look away. It seems scary. The only people I recognize, as far as casting goes, is Mark Hamill.
Mikaela
Who's Mark Hamill in?
Reggie
He's in. He's Luke's the OG Luke Skywalker.
Mikaela
Oh, okay.
Reggie
Like, yeah, he's the major. And then you have Charlie Plummer. I'm familiar with him. I can't remember what he's in. He Was in one of the John Green adaptations Looking for Alaska. I know. He's in other stuff.
Mikaela
Okay. Amazing.
Reggie
Anyways, I don't recognize anybody else, which.
Mikaela
I feel like is great. I guess.
Reggie
It's called the Long Walk.
Mikaela
It's called the Long Walk. The Long Walk.
Reggie
Our apologies.
Mikaela
So the. The thing. The. The synopsis says a group of teenage boys compete in an annual contest known as the Long Walk, where they must maintain a certain walking or get. Pew. Pew. I would die so fast. What if they go to the bathroom? They just have to pee or poop themselves. I mean, people do that when they run marathons. I know. So. I know.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
Kind of nasty. But in life or death. Yeah. You just. Or you probably be too scared to do it. Will I be watching this adaptation? Probably not.
Reggie
Lionsgate's doing it and it's coming out in September of 2025. So if you are a fan of if that sounds interesting to you, read the book before the movie for. Ah, man, I don't know. I'm just. This seems like one of those where I will just spoil it for myself on like a Wikipedia thing.
Mikaela
I could see myself listening to the book or reading it during the fall. Yeah.
Reggie
It seems like it also would be a very emotional read based off of what I've seen in the trailer.
Mikaela
So my husband will probably force me to watch it. So. Yeah, you're a movie buff. Kind of along the same lines, there is the Running man by Stephen King, which trailer just came out as well today, I think with Glenn Powell. Glenn Powell. And it looks like a mix between horror but funny. What is that called?
Reggie
Comedy. A horromedy. Yes, it's.
Mikaela
And it comes out November 7th.
Reggie
Yeah. On Netflix.
Mikaela
Yeah. A comedy slash horror. I think I could get Kyle to watch this thriller. Horror looks more thrilling than horror. So basically, if you haven't seen the trailer, it's about Glen Powell as the main character. Yeah. And he enters in a competition called the Running man to help his sick daughter. Correct. Yeah.
Reggie
Because he wins. He gets.
Mikaela
Yes.
Reggie
A ton of prize money.
Mikaela
And basically people record him 24 7. And if he survives the amount of time he gets the money, everybody's trying to kill him.
Reggie
Yeah. Like, I think it's like the general public.
Mikaela
Yeah. Like anyone.
Reggie
Anyone. It's free game.
Mikaela
Yeah. Sounds very interesting. I mean, when I watched the trailer, I. I thought to myself, I could watch this. It looks entertaining and good. Action packed. You got that emotional depth. Him trying to help his daughter. You have Glen Powell.
Reggie
I mean, I mean, I'll watch it For Glen Powell.
Mikaela
See this is the thing is it's so hard because I love when actors, well known actors are cast in adaptations. Especially when I haven't read the book. It makes me more apt to watch the movie but I can understand why that's a double edged sword. Sword. Right. But maybe if you know say Callum Turner was in the Long Walk, would I be more apt to watch it? Maybe because I know who he is. I don't know why I said Callum Turner, but I just.
Reggie
Yeah, yeah, I guess.
Mikaela
Yeah. You know I could see him in that movie Pro and con. So it actually was Adapted in the 1990s but apparently it wasn't very like true to like the books. So they're remaking it and it says it's going to be very like much more true to.
Reggie
A lot of the comments I saw on the trailer on Tik Tok today were saying that it looks like it's going to be really accurate to the book.
Mikaela
So. So we love a good.
Reggie
I think I will be listening to. It's a pretty short book from when I've looked it up to add it to my Libby. It does say it's a several month wait but I will use my Spotify credits for. I think it's only like a 10 hour audiobook so.
Mikaela
Not bad. Unfortunately all of Stephen King's books are very long waits on the Libby app. I've been waiting for eight. What is it 11:24. The one about John F. Kennedy's assassination.
Reggie
Oh yeah.
Mikaela
I've been waiting for that one for months. Months that I bet also will be turned into an adaptation. Yeah, probably. Yeah.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
All right, moving on. I think we're done with the Stephen King's ones. I'm sure there's. There's some coming out that are in work.
Reggie
Those ones are confirmed for 2025 bag, huh?
Mikaela
Yeah. How much do we think Stephen King's making? Probably he's also pumping out books. Yeah, he's.
Reggie
That man has no rest.
Mikaela
No, he's like the Brandon Sanderson of horror straight up. Yeah. Yeah. Which I don't mean to go down this rabbit hole. I wonder why none of Brandon Sanderson's books have ever.
Reggie
I think he has come out and said why. I swear I saw a tick tock.
Mikaela
Did you? Maybe I need to go find out.
Reggie
He was talking about like what makes a good book to movie adaptation. He was giving like examples of like here's why this one like did well and why this maybe could have been better. And I think it's just because from what I could remember, he was just saying that like there's, with a fantasy novel and like series, there's so many complex elements to it that if you can't include all of that or takeaway thing, you know what I mean? He's like, it has potential to be ruined. And so I think he was saying that because he's, I swear, because he did like a big Q and A thing forever ago on TikTok. I'll try and find it.
Mikaela
Not me and Mikhail both Googling it at the same time.
Reggie
I know he's. I just remember watching it because, yeah, I went down this like big rabbit hole of watching Brandon Sanderson's TikToks. And I know he said something about that because people, someone asked like, why hasn't anything whatever. And I'm sure there's people out there knocking on his door like, come on, Brandon, yeah, let's make you some more money. But I think he's just like really protective of his books and I think that that's great. You know, I'm, I, I don't think it's a matter of, you know, nobody's asked him. It's not that I'm sure he's getting asked all the time, but yeah, literally.
Mikaela
Google says that exact thing. Sanderson himself has been very selective, prioritizing creative control and f faithful adaptation. He's looking for a filmmaker with a deep understanding and passion for his work. Similar to Dennis, I don't know how to say the last name, the person who adopted Dune.
Reggie
So yeah, he would want to be very heavily involved too, which I know from what I have understood a lot of places sometimes don't want that. They just want the authors to kind of like give them the rights and.
Mikaela
Yeah, well, it's so hard because when you have a, a book like Hunger Games, for example, if you sit and listen to it, it's probably what, a 12 hour listen, 10 hour listen. And you're watching a two and a half hour movie, if that. And I understand that a lot of the book is visually explaining things for the reader to picture in their mind, but at some point you do have to cut things out. So I would love to talk to someone and understand why they choose, how they choose what to cut out and what to keep in. Yeah, yeah. Do they film at all and then go back and cut it?
Reggie
I would say the Hunger Games. I mean, I can think of a lot of things they didn't include, but I also can see that they weren't like, there's only one Major thing that I can think of that I'm like, why did we do it that way? And it makes me curious to see how they're going to do that in Sunrise on the Reaping with the whole Mockingjay pin, that whole thing and like the, like Maisley Donner, like all that kind of stuff. I have a little. I've got some questions around that to see how they're gonna do that. But I. I have always have some. I would love to somehow work in just specifically the movie to. Or book to movie adaptation sphere somehow. But just to get an inside scoop. I just want to be an intern. I'll just give people their coffee. I just want to know. All the tea.
Mikaela
All the tea. I feel like my main issue with the two newest Hunger Game movies is that they were written explicitly as a. Whatever it's called for a movie. For a movie. Like they were literally announced at the same time kind of a thing. Yeah. And so.
Reggie
And I thought the movie was phenomenal for Ballad of Songbirds and series.
Mikaela
Well, and that's what I'm saying it was. And it was exactly the same, which is exactly what you want.
Reggie
Yeah. I mean, I haven't read the book, but I did go and watch a whole in depth thing of like things that were different from the book versus the movie. And there were definitely some things that were different. But yeah, I think Suzanne Collins had a plan. She had a plan and a script first. And then I think she's had the like story in her head for a really long time. I feel like she's been really intentional with it in my opinion. But I don't know. Some people might disagree, but I do know that like, there's no way she didn't. Didn't write these books. Thinking maybe this will be. She knew it was going to be.
Mikaela
But I wonder why. And I guess maybe I'm answering my own question as I ask this. Obviously. Do you guys think she released the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes? Because technically it happened before Sunrise on the Reaping. Because I think Sunrise on the Reaping is going to be a stronger book and movie.
Reggie
Oh, yeah.
Mikaela
You know what I mean? Like, I wonder why she made the choice to release Snow's backstory first. Yeah, because probably just chronological order, but I still have yet to see the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes because I really did not enjoy the book.
Reggie
Oh, I think you'll really like the movie. I loved the movie. I thought it was so good. And I've been seeing, you know, that trend that's been going on on TikTok. If you guys been seeing it, like, people's top 10 movies, a lot of people. I didn't realize so many people, like, absolutely love it and think it's like a cinematic masterpiece, but I've been seeing so many people include that in their or, like, I see a lot of movie critics do, like my top 10 movies of whatever, and a lot of people have been including it on there. Not to like, overhype it for you, but I thought it was very well done. The only thing I didn't like is Rachel Zegler's accent was not very good, but it was great movie. But I guess Sunrise on the reaping specifically. Do we want. Let. Should we. Is there anything else you guys wanted to say about, like, the Hunger Games and the movies? Suzanne Collins. I didn't want to, like, jump the gun.
Mikaela
No.
Reggie
I'll try to keep my thoughts minimal because I could talk about this all day, but I hate that. I don't think I'm going to be disappointed by this movie. Let me just say that because so far they are delivering. I actually cannot wrap my mind around the cast that they have. It blows my mind.
Mikaela
And also the way they released the.
Reggie
Cast, it is going. I'm. I'm really trying to not set myself up to be disappointed, but I cannot wait. And this, yeah, it has consumed my every thought since I read Sunrise on the Raping. So I'm really looking forward to it. And everybody knows that. After watching We Were Liars, I'm even more excited because I think Joseph Zeta. I believe that's his name. Yes. Joseph Zeta is the most perfect. I don't know who he was up against. I saw an interview where he, like, one of the girls in the cast of We Were Liars was saying he was telling me the people he was auditioning against for this role, and she was like, oh. Like, this is. This is like a big deal. And so she's like, he's gonna be great for it. And yeah, after watching that, I'm like, all the edits, I keep seeing chills throughout my entire body. I. I'm very excited. So they've got a stacked cast.
Mikaela
Well, I don't think you're setting yourself up for because I think you've seen how successful Hunger Games is, and everyone wants to be a part of it. So I. I think they were able to get such a stacked cast because they have a big budget.
Reggie
The.
Mikaela
They have the past four Hunger Games movies behind them where they have succeeded. So I Don't think it was ever going to be an issue getting the cast that they wanted because there is history of them all doing very well. So I don't think any of the production companies were like, nah, let's cut the budget. Let's not. I think they're like, yeah, let's spend all of their money on the cast because it's going to do really well either way.
Reggie
Yeah. So it's going to be very good. So I'm going to.
Mikaela
Is there a release date for it?
Reggie
It's. Yeah, it's. I don't know exact date, but it's November of so 2020.
Mikaela
Oh, so not that bad. Why did I think it was 2028? It's not bad.
Reggie
I'm pretty sure it's November 2026.
Mikaela
I mean, I could see that being what it is.
Reggie
I don't think they have an exact date. 20th, 20th. Ooh.
Mikaela
Yep. I feel like they all come out in like November or October.
Reggie
Yeah, isn't that. I think that's what happened with B.
Mikaela
My one thing. And I don't even know if this is going to happen. Please, please give me Josh Hutchards. Josh Hutcherson. And how did I forget her name?
Reggie
Oh, you want a cameo? You want a cameo from them?
Mikaela
Smallest, teeniest. Honestly, I. I could see Josh. Josh Hutcherson doing it.
Reggie
I don't know.
Mikaela
Jennifer will.
Reggie
I bet Woody Harrelson would do it.
Mikaela
Oh, I think Woody Harrelson would.
Reggie
I don't know if I can see Jennifer Lawrence give me a coming back. But Josh has.
Mikaela
Didn't they both say they would?
Reggie
I don't know. I haven't seen her say anything. Oh, but maybe she has. But yeah, I want that so badly. Also, I do have a request. I need Noah Khan to write the main song for the movie. I actually have a whole. You guys. I have a whole list in my phone of like what I want the soundtrack to be. Oh, that might be my next TikTok. I I guys, I. It really is a problem how, like I've been so hyper fixated on this book and this soon to be adaptation.
Mikaela
I love it for you. I wish.
Reggie
I'm making my husband read Sunrise on the reaping this week. So yeah, I'm just going. Yeah, I'm going through it right now and I still cry ever over every single edit I see on TikTok. So can't wait to watch the movie.
Mikaela
With you guys and cry. It's gonna be great.
Reggie
Oh, it's gonna be an experience that I'm not ready for. But I'm ready for it at the same time, so I'm gonna feel like an idiot.
Mikaela
I'm the only one who doesn't cry. I don't know. You might. I didn't cry reading the book.
Reggie
I'm just saying, when you think about the squirrels.
Mikaela
Okay. Also, I will say, like, those kids are tiny. Yeah, they are. They are tiny.
Reggie
Oh, my. I literally. I saw the cast announcement.
Mikaela
I did not realize they were that small. They're small, little babies. No, I will say it was a little overhyped for me. And so I just was like. I didn't have any deep emotional connection to any of the characters. I also was really bugged by her writing. But that's okay. I couldn't get past it. I couldn't get past it. That's okay. Maybe you like the movie better. Maybe.
Reggie
Sorry. We can continue. I'll stop talking about it.
Mikaela
No, it's okay. I love how much you love it. Okay. So this was just announced literally today as we're speaking. I'm Glad My mom died by Jeanette McCurdy. McCurdy.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
It got picked up and Jennifer Aniston is either producing it or she is playing. She's starring. And you want to know what? Okay. She's starring in it. And I didn't realize it was being adopted by Apple tv. My faith in the adaptation. Adaptation is now through the roof. Yeah, I think it would be really good. I'm curious.
Reggie
I'm assuming she's playing the mom. She is.
Mikaela
It's. I mean, it doesn't let me open this article. It says. I mean, she's starring in it. Maybe they give a little more. Yes. So it. It will be interesting. Who's gonna play Jeanette?
Reggie
Because Jeanette's producing.
Mikaela
She's producing it.
Reggie
I'm pretty sure.
Mikaela
Okay.
Reggie
I'm pretty sure. Let me. Let's confirm it. In trouble.
Mikaela
I feel like that would be really hard. It would be really hard. It says this article doesn't say anything about it.
Reggie
Jennifer Aniston stars in a new series based on Jeanette McCurdy's best selling coming of age memoir, written, executive produced and showrun by McCurdy and Ari catcher Aniston. It's the way that this is written is kind of weird.
Mikaela
Yeah. It says McCurdy and Ari Coucher will write, executive produce, and showrun the series.
Reggie
Yeah. So, yes, I think there's a lot of potential for that, especially with Jennette McCurdy being that involved.
Mikaela
So honestly and truly, I have watched almost Every book to TV adaptation Apple TV has done, every single one is good. So not to overhype it, but like Dark Matter, great. Murderbot, great. Silo great. There's another one that's based on a book. Like there's like this machine in this small town and people get their. Like life's, their futures. Read. It's based on a book. Haven't read the book. But the TV show was great. Apple tv, they do great. They're doing tv, Right. I'm telling you, their movies hit and miss, but they're TV shows.
Reggie
Yeah, Yeah. I think it's going to be very. Going to be emotional. It's also going to be interesting to just see how they do some things with it. Literally in her book, she's, you know, talking about very specific people and networks and it's. Yeah.
Mikaela
Did she change the names in the book? She did, didn't she?
Reggie
A few people, yeah.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
But I mean, like Ariana Grande, she talks about Sam and Cat. She talks about Nickelodeon. Like, it's just gonna be. I don't know, I feel interesting to see what they change because, I mean, they're. I don't think they're gonna be talking about Nickelodeon on Apple tv. I don't know how that works.
Mikaela
You know, I feel like they probably. I mean, this is me just being hypothetical about it. I feel like they'll just do a TV show mostly just explaining like, her upbringing and not necessarily like Cat. Salmon. Cat.
Reggie
Yeah. I think they'd like totally change it to like.
Mikaela
I feel like that'd be like more like a documentary.
Reggie
Yeah, I don't. Yeah, that's why I like, I can see them making it like a pretend network with a different type of TV show that she's in. I don't know. But that is definitely a very great memoir. The audiobook is narrated by Jeanette McCurdy and it was.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Her story is really something.
Mikaela
So I think that's one of my. The first memoirs I ever listened to that was narrated by the actual author. And then it sent me off into a spiral of listening to others. But have you guys ever watched the Morning show with Jennifer Aniston? No, because it's like a. It's a dramedy. And in this article it says that the I'm Glad My Mom Died TV show will also be a dramedy because I feel like Jennifer Aniston, usually, obviously Friends, you think of her as kind of rom com, not. I'm not saying not a serious actress, but a lot of the times you think of her in more of like a comedic setting. Yeah. I watched the first season of the Morning show and she does very well. She plays kind of this raging biatch and I love to see it. So I think she's. Yeah, I think she's going to do a very good job in this adaptation.
Reggie
Yeah, I'm happy for Jenna McCurdy. I think that's big.
Mikaela
You're bad girl one that I'm very excited about. People me, we meet on vacation, but the release date. What the stupid.
Reggie
Okay, but let's keep in mind, because I forgot about this until someone made a tick tock about it. And then I was like, oh, I can see the. There's like a line in the book where they talk about specifically January. Like they talk about traveling in January. Well, let me find it. Hold on.
Mikaela
I just thought maybe Emily Henry was obsessed with January in general. Doesn't she have a character called named January?
Reggie
Okay, I'll try and find it.
Mikaela
I'm sure there's some importance, but I feel like it's just like a very summery movie. Yeah. I'm also impatient. Yeah. Give it to me, Rachel. Give it to me. I mean, I'm sure it will be fine when I actually watch it and I'm like, okay, fine. It coming out in January. That's okay. It'll cure our winter depression. Yeah. Maybe we need to. Well, maybe I'm mostly upset because we wanted to do like a watch party and we can't do that in January. We'll do in Arizona in air. Okay. Arizona. That's gay.
Reggie
Here at first.
Mikaela
From here. Arizona watch party, January 9th. Yeah. Because it's Netflix, right? Yeah. Yeah. I'm really excited. I find it really interesting because all of her books have been picked up by different networks. They're not all the same. I wonder how. I mean, obviously that's.
Reggie
They're starting off strong. We meet on vacation. I feel like it's a great like cast. Like. What do you mean?
Mikaela
It's not my favorite book by her, but. Oh, it's I my choice. Well, we all have a different Emily Henry ranking.
Reggie
Yeah. I saw a girl post a TikTok that was saying how like. Because I feel like people we meet on vacation sometimes gets a lot of hate because it's. I think a lot of people's least one of. I don't know. I feel like I see more people complain about that one. Maybe it's just me.
Mikaela
You want to know what, though? Here is my take. I think if I reread all of her Books. I think Happy Place might be my least favorite one. The reason why I didn't rate People We Meet on Vacation very high was I had just finished Tower of Dawn. So going from Tower of Dawn to People We Meet on Vacation, I, you know, it just like, was not my favorite. But I do think, I think if I reread all of her books, my bottom rankings would probably change. I think my top books would still be my top book.
Reggie
Yeah. That's the Time and Place.
Mikaela
My favorite is Funny Story. Yeah. But would no Great Big Beautiful Life would be the bottom. Yeah. I was like. I. I was like, yes. I. Just kidding. I forgot about that one. Yeah. I was like, oh, if you reread them. But you know what? Honestly, I think I want to reread that book before the movie comes out.
Reggie
Oh, I do too. I really enjoyed it, but it's just because there's a lot of elements into it that I really love.
Mikaela
Which one are we talking about? People we Meet on vacation.
Reggie
People we meet on vacation.
Mikaela
Oh, okay. I thought you guys were talking about great bbl.
Reggie
Yeah, no, I think it's gonna be.
Mikaela
Great and I'm stoked. The cast is very good. It's perfect. It's perfect. His voice.
Reggie
On the trailer thing.
Mikaela
So good. Rom coms are back. So good. I was taking photos of a couple two days ago and I don't know how this gets brought up at every photo shoot, but her husband was a big golfer and I asked her if she read and she said no. Anyways, she was telling me that she loves rom coms and I said to her, just you wait, you're going to be fed in the next few years because all of these really good rom com books are being adapted to movies. You're going to love them.
Reggie
I think there was one, now that I'm thinking of it, that I saw today on TikTok. I think it just got picked up with. Oh, I just added it to my tbr. Pen Badgley. How do you say his last name is? How you say it?
Mikaela
Oh, he's starring in it.
Reggie
Yeah. With Gossip Girl.
Mikaela
Oh, with what's her Bucket in.
Reggie
It's the book you Deserve each other by Sarah Hogle.
Mikaela
The.
Reggie
That's going to be coming soon. Ish. But they have the cast for it with Pen. But I've never heard of that book in my entire life, so I'm neither.
Mikaela
I'm excited for the rom coms. Yeah, they're so good. They're back. They're so cute too. You know, we. Sometimes you just need like a little cheesy, cute romance. Got a little humor. So I'm interested to see if I'll like the movies better than the books. Like, I love Emily Henry and I love her books, but even watching old ROM cons, I don't like cringe and cheese over them. Do you know what I mean? But then I feel like if you took a Romantasy for some reason and you had them say dialogue from the Romantasy book, I would cringe. I don't know.
Reggie
Yeah, I don't know.
Mikaela
Next on our list, the Deal by Ellie Kennedy. None of us have read the. Well, Michaela DNF'd one. I DNF'd it. Will I watch it if I'm really bored? Is it on Amazon? I don't. I think it's Amazon. I think it is prime that's doing it. I'll probably. It'll be a good editing show. Yeah. I've heard a lot of people are upset by the casting, but I feel like I can't have an opinion because I didn't finish it. Yeah, I don't know. I really also haven't paid that much attention to the casting either.
Reggie
I haven't seen a lot about it. I don't even know if I've seen anything about it. I feel like I've just heard you guys talk about it.
Mikaela
There was a while there where it was all over my for you page because there was these three girls. I don't know if they were actresses or tiktokers or what, but they made a whole bunch of tiktoks together. And everybody kept saying that they wanted those three girls to play three of the female characters in the adaptation. And everybody kept saying they were perfect. And then the casting came out. I don't even actually know who they cast. But yeah, people are upset about it. And I'm very sorry. For those of you who are big fans of the off campus series. I'm not one of them, so I don't care. But I would be crushed if someone butchered the casting. The casting of some of my favorite books. Yeah. Okay, moving on to. That's all we got for you. Sorry, I feel like I just can't really say much.
Reggie
Yeah, no, yeah, you're good.
Mikaela
It will be interesting because I feel like, correct me if I'm wrong, this is maybe the first hockey book to movie adaptation. Yeah. Like a raw romance. I'm surprised like Icebreaker didn't get picked up before it. Yeah. I don't know.
Reggie
Is it pretty spicy?
Mikaela
Yeah, it's pretty spicy. I read the other series from. It's like the daughter of the couple in the first book in the Off Campus series and it was fine. I just don't think I'm like a hockey romance person. I also DNF'd that one, so. The Gram effect. Yep. DNF too. You know, it just. This episode is brought to you by J.C. penney. And if you've been to JCPenney recently. Yes, JCPenney, you'll know it's becoming the.
Reggie
Way to find good clothes for prices.
Mikaela
That still make sense.
Reggie
They've got hidden gems for everyone and.
Mikaela
Every budget with deals and rewards that actually make a dent.
Reggie
If you already shop JCPenney, you feel.
Mikaela
Like you know a secret. But if not, it's time to ask. Wait, am I sleeping on JCPenney. Shop JCPenney.com, yes, JCPenney. Eat. I'll watch it while I edit. All right, next one. Regretting you and comes out October 24th.
Reggie
And who is it that's doing that one?
Mikaela
MGM Grant? No, I was gonna add off MGM. MGM. And along that same lines, Verity as well, because you both bite. Kit, I'm very excited about Verity. Me too. I'm real.
Reggie
I'm really scared. I'm a little scared. There's some things on that book that triggered me a little bit and I am hoping they kind of change.
Mikaela
Do you think it'll be rated R? Maybe.
Reggie
Depending on what they change.
Mikaela
Did you. I know everybody listening saw and I know these two saw this as well. The clip of Dakota Johnson, the very beginning of the book.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
The blood just like. Yeah, Yeah.
Reggie
I think it's so interesting because I know there's a lot of discourse and drama going on with Colleen Hoover, which we don't need to get into that. But I do think it's going to be interesting to see how well these movies do, especially because I don't. So Paramount Pictures is doing Regretting you. So that means it will be in theaters.
Mikaela
Verity is Amazon. Mgm.
Reggie
So is Verity going to not be in theaters?
Mikaela
MGM Studios. Well, does that mean Amazon is. There's Amazon prime. So, like, there's different levels of like Amazon.
Reggie
Okay.
Mikaela
Like, so I feel like it will be. I don't. In theaters. Maybe at Walmart. I don't know.
Reggie
Because I almost can see regretting you being one that you can stream there anything when you go see in theaters. You know what I mean? The cast.
Mikaela
Yeah, yeah. Anne Hathaway. Hathaway was in that Amazon.
Reggie
Yeah. I don't know. I don't know how that works. So someone correct us if we're.
Mikaela
I bet you they have the release date.
Reggie
It'll say, let's see, do we just need to say we'll Verity be in theaters?
Mikaela
Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised if Thriller has locked in the date of May 15, 2026 for its theatrical release.
Reggie
So the 4 Verity.
Mikaela
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Reggie
And the guy that's playing Jeremy in it. Correct me if I'm wrong, he's kind of been retired from acting for a while. From what I've understood, he was a lot of people.
Mikaela
I don't know who he is.
Reggie
I don't really know who he is, but I feel like a lot of people, from what I've seen in comments, are really excited that he's coming because they. To me, I've been getting the vibe that he kind of retired. He's kind of coming out of retirement for this. So people are really excited to see him in another movie. So I don't know. I'm hoping. I enjoy the movie. I will. I'm a little scared for it, but I'm excited to watch Anne Hathaway.
Mikaela
Okay. So the guy. Yeah, he was in Trap. He was in Oppenheimer, actually. I hate him in trapping, but he didn't go. But prior to that, he was. He hadn't been acting since, like Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
Which are all like 2000.
Reggie
So.
Mikaela
Yeah, I would say, like, he's on his. He's making his comeback, so. Yeah.
Reggie
Yeah. As a leading role.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Okay.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Which, I mean, I'm sure he's a great actor, but I was expecting Jeremy to be a little. I don't know, I. I'm kind of.
Mikaela
Upset by it, too.
Reggie
I'm not too thrilled because I wanted Jared. Me to be super hot, and to me, I'm just not. Like, I don't think you guys go.
Mikaela
Watch Trap and then tell me how you feel. Oh, is he watching Trap?
Reggie
Oh, it's terrible.
Mikaela
I think his acting's not good. Okay. But that's so bad. Pearl Harbor. That's a great movie.
Reggie
Yeah, that is a great movie.
Mikaela
I don't know.
Reggie
I don't know.
Mikaela
Well, maybe.
Reggie
We'll see. I mean, I've seen. The thing is that I've seen some behind the scenes. I don't know. I've seen some behind the scenes photos.
Mikaela
And I. I just. With her being Lowen, what's her bucket? Dakota Johnson. Dakota Johnson. I just. I never in a million years would ever kiss that man. You want to know what's so funny. Is that so bad? Is Dakota Johnson, I feel like, for a while had a bad rep. You know, she was kind of starring in all these not so great movies. No, wait. I feel like she doesn't star in the best movies, but she's a great actress, and I've been seeing her on the press tour for what's the movie called? Material Materialists. I actually love her. Her dry humor. Yeah. Her whiplash.
Reggie
I just.
Mikaela
You guys know what I'm talking.
Reggie
Yeah, her whiplash from Fifty Shades.
Mikaela
You said, have you ever been hurt on the movie? And she's. Yeah, he was like, what was it she said whiplash on? I think I. I think it's gonna be really good. Dakota Johnson also just likes the love triangle, I guess.
Reggie
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mikaela
So I'm excited for that one. I am. Yeah, I'm excited. I wish Jeremy was different, but maybe he'll surprise you. Maybe he will. I don't think he will, but that's okay.
Reggie
It's so funny because I remember when we talked about Verity in our. One of our very first podcast episodes. That was our first talking about our fan cast. I. If you could have told us when we were sitting down, record that episode that Anne Hathaway was going to be playing Verity, I would have been shocked, but I would have been like. Like, I would never would have pictured her. But I'm actually really excited about her.
Mikaela
Yeah. The last one.
Reggie
Regretting. Oh, I guess we didn't really touch on regretting you. And I will just say this.
Mikaela
I don't remember anything. I don't either.
Reggie
I remember the book and I did not like it, but I'm intrigued by the cast.
Mikaela
I looked.
Reggie
I'll watch it.
Mikaela
I thought we all rated it. I think we all rated it, too.
Reggie
Yeah. I did not like it.
Mikaela
I love a Franco brother, but, you know.
Reggie
Yeah, the men in the movie. I'm excited about the men.
Mikaela
Maybe the movie will be better than the book. But I don't remember the book at all, so. And it's not one that I'm willing to go read again. Nope. Absolutely not. So I rated it too, so. Yeah.
Reggie
Yeah, it will be probably a better movie.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
But, you know, Scott Eastwood.
Mikaela
Yeah, Scott Eastwood is in it. And that one comes out October 24th, so that's really soon. Yeah. Maybe they'll perform good. Maybe they won't. I mean, I'm not against going and seeing them because I'm just curious, you know?
Reggie
Yeah. I just.
Mikaela
But, yeah, I think you're right. That's one that I could see being a streaming movie, but I. Let's see if it's a theatrical release or not. But also like, Verity is just so crazy that I remember so much from it and I read it such a long time ago and it's still like engraved in my brain. I think it might literally doesn't even say. It just says. Regretting you is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures in the United States on October 24th. So is it going to Paramount Plus? Well, I feel like it probably isn't a theatrical release if it's only us on that day. But then it says the film is set in. People magazine said the film is set to hit theaters October 24th.
Reggie
Okay, so theaters it is.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
We need to brush up on our. We need to understand Hollywood a little more. Someone, please.
Mikaela
God.
Reggie
I understand the publishing agent.
Mikaela
The publishing world makes sense because I feel like I need to do some research. What is like the pro and con of releasing it just straight on streaming versus them getting box office numbers and stuff like that? Let's. Let's ask. Because I feel like in my mind it would make more sense to release it as like in the theater because you're getting like, you know, you think you would make more money. Yes. Okay. Maybe according to Google, like, how do they make their money on the streaming services? Streaming is. Okay. This is giving me nothing. I don't know. Because like Apple's TVs are really good, but they're just streaming to Apple and.
Reggie
What just gotta be a matter of like, just numbers. Yeah. Budget, like, I don't know.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Anyone.
Mikaela
Just how does they make their money back besides like the streaming service? Maybe the stream, like the streamer pays them per view or something similar to that. Kind of like on, you know, TikTok creators.
Reggie
I don't know.
Mikaela
Maybe they get screwed over like TikTok creators.
Reggie
I have no idea.
Mikaela
Interesting.
Reggie
Sorry, I just curious to know.
Mikaela
I'm. If you are in the industry, movie TV show industry and you have any insight on that, I'd love to know. So maybe like shoot us a dm.
Reggie
You know, don't include.
Mikaela
Oh, sorry I died. Okay. This is so random. It says the movie Trolls World Tour. Oh. Surpassed Avengers Endgame in what it made.
Reggie
Wow.
Mikaela
I mean, when you think about it, the amount of a list actors you had to pay plus all the cgi, you know. Yeah. That's funny.
Reggie
Yeah, that's hilarious.
Mikaela
Okay.
Reggie
All right. Well, we do have one last one to chat about briefly, and that is the housemaid.
Mikaela
Yeah.
Reggie
Coming Christmas Day.
Mikaela
Merry Christmas. Take Your family to go see the housemate. Heartwarming, you know, Christmas movie you could ever think of. Yeah.
Reggie
Mm.
Mikaela
No.
Reggie
You know, that one is going to.
Mikaela
The cast is also stacked.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
I mean, Sweeney is Sydney Sweeney. Amanda. Safe. Seyfried. Sydney Sweeney is the maid.
Reggie
The maid.
Mikaela
Right.
Reggie
Then you. Amanda. Amanda's playing the wife. Then you've got our good old. Who's the buddy? Brandon. Brandon.
Mikaela
Yes. And then you have the guy from 365. What's his name? He's the drones keeper.
Reggie
Enzo.
Mikaela
It's either gonna be really good or really, really, really bad. Just like Frida McFadden's books. Yeah, yeah.
Reggie
Yes.
Mikaela
You go, you go.
Reggie
I. I will be going and seeing that in theaters for sure.
Mikaela
Oh, 100%.
Reggie
And I think it might be kind of a bit of a laughy, giggly time, but I think I'll also enjoy it. So that's all I really have to say about it.
Mikaela
Maybe it will be really good because our expectations are kind of lower for it. Here's the thing. Are they going to make it a franchise and do 500 movies like there's 500 books, or is it going to be one and done?
Reggie
I would kind. I don't know.
Mikaela
I hope it's just one and done. Me too. But if it does really good, I could see them being like, yeah, let's do the second one. But maybe. I feel like it'd be hard to get all of those actors for another movie.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
Because they are kind of B list celebrities.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
I mean, I would say Amanda Seyfried and Sidney.
Reggie
Sydney's a lister.
Mikaela
Brandon Skelnor, however you say he's getting there. Same with the other guy. Yeah, I said A and B list. Okay. So, yeah, both the categories for those. I don't know. It'll be interesting, that's for sure.
Reggie
Yeah. I can't wait for us to react to an update on our thoughts.
Mikaela
Should we go on Christmas Eve? No. Like, yeah, because they release things the day before. Oh. Some people do go to movies on Christmas Eve too.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
You know, movies are just releasing sooner and sooner. You don't have to wait till midnight anymore.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
Kind of missed.
Reggie
I mean, I would say let's go on Christmas Eve, but knowing me, I'm gonna be waking up at the butt crack it on on Christmas Day with my children.
Mikaela
Knowing them, they'll probably have like a showing at 10am on Christmas 100.
Reggie
Okay, I'll go.
Mikaela
I will not be going to see that on Christmas. I'm sorry. No, I'm Teasing everyone. I know.
Reggie
But anyways, let's just go out the.
Mikaela
New year, you know, bringing in the new year with housemaids. Bring it in 2026.
Reggie
You know, there's a lot of adaptations to look forward to, and I'm really excited for these authors, and I just am really hoping that all of these adaptations do well for author's sake, because, you know, I can't imagine how hard that would be to have a book that you're so proud of. Watch it. Your dream of it being put on the screen and then having it just do absolutely terribly. You know what I mean? Like, that would suck.
Mikaela
So. But they got their money. Yeah, they got their money.
Reggie
Yeah.
Mikaela
Regardless of how it performs.
Reggie
That's true.
Mikaela
But sometimes also, I will have to say, sometimes it's not on the author.
Reggie
Oh, yeah. You know, of course.
Mikaela
So I feel like sometimes you have to separate if you're the author, probably separate. If it doesn't do very well. It's not just on you in your book, not succeeding. Yeah.
Reggie
But then it's also like if they don't. If someone didn't like your adaptation of the movie, even though he didn't play much of a part in it, it's like, yeah, people aren't gonna be. If it does well, people are gonna go pick up your books. If it doesn't do well, they're kind of like, eh, yeah. You know?
Mikaela
So one thing I hope I don't see, though, is. Is people. Sorry, not people. Authors changing their covers to the movie. I do hate that. Hate it.
Reggie
I hate that.
Mikaela
I hope that doesn't happen. If you're listening, don't. Don't do that. Don't do it. It's okay. If you want to put a little circle, a very small one that says, now I made your motion picture, but make it a sticker. Yeah, people can take it off. Don't change your cover. I don't want to see the actors and actresses face. I don't either cover. Anyway, sorry, that was. I've been doing a lot of side tangents. I apologize. They all make sen. Sense. They all make sense. I think that's all. Yep. Obviously, I feel like we'll have to do another one of these eventually because they'll be. The list is ever growing with book to movie adaptations, slash TV shows. So I personally am pretty excited about all of them, and I will probably watch a majority of them regardless if I, like, was obsessed with the book or not, you know, because I'm just a curious person when it comes to Is it similar? Is it different? How? How do they picture this? How did I picture it? So I think that's all you guys, and we'll see you guys next week. Bye.

Podcast Summary: "Read it Before You See it"
I'll Read What She's Reading - Episode Released July 23, 2025
In the episode titled "Read it Before You See it," hosts Mikaela, Reggie, and Kennedy delve into the eagerly anticipated world of book-to-movie adaptations slated for release in 2025. This comprehensive discussion not only explores the forthcoming adaptations but also provides insightful commentary on what makes a faithful and successful transition from page to screen. Here's a detailed breakdown of their conversation:
The hosts kick off the episode by outlining their focus on upcoming book-to-movie and TV show adaptations. They emphasize the importance of discussing their excitement, casting choices, and overall fidelity to the source material.
Reggie sets the stage by stating:
"We're going to be chatting about book to movie adaptations that are coming soon and just kind of like our thoughts and if we're excited about them or not."
[00:33]
Before diving into specific adaptations, the trio discusses the critical elements that contribute to a successful book-to-movie transformation.
Fidelity to the Source Material:
Mikaela highlights the challenge of visualizing literature:
"Whatever the author describes, you know, keeping pretty similar to that because, at least the author had something she wanted in your mind when describing something."
[01:09]
Production Company and Casting Choices:
Reggie underscores the significance of the production team's reputation and the casting of well-known actors:
"My first thought was, like, the production company, like, who's putting it on? Because sometimes when things get picked up by certain places, I'm like, oh, this will be interesting."
[01:55]
Author's Involvement:
Mikaela stresses the importance of authors being involved in the adaptation process to ensure authenticity:
"I think too, a successful adaptation, the author is a big part of it... I'd rather have an adaptation not happen and the author be picky than an adaptation happen and an author not care."
[04:06]
Project Hail Mary, authored by Andy Weir, is the first adaptation the hosts discuss, showcasing considerable excitement.
