I feel like it's been a while since we've done this. Yeah, I've read lots of books since the last time. How many do we want to share? As many as you would like.

I'll go. I'll go. Called All Roads Lead Here by Mariana Zapot. Zapata. Zapata. I loved it. Obsessed with it. I can't wait to read more of her books.

She legit is. I. I loved it. So good. Highly recommend. The dynamic is so interesting, but single dad?

Anyways, I was like, okay, I'll give it a try. I. I think I'm just past. I just think I'm past that. That stuff in my life. I don't know. I just think I genuinely enjoy older romance books, especially. Especially temporary romance, you know? And also, like, are they in high.

No, they're in college. But also it.

The COVID is very deceiving. It's like you know them on an ice skating rate rink. And it talks little to none about ice skating. Ice skating or hockey.

Like, you read the other. You read the first book in the other series, right? I swear you did.

What one?

There's another series by L. Kennedy that I read, the first book in the interconnected standalone series, and it spoils the. The Off Campus series because it's like their daughter.

Oh, the Grand Effect. Oh, is that by her?

Yes. Oh, you haven't read it? I thought you had.

[Mikayla]

Oh, I started an idea. I just don't think I like her books. Well, maybe you don't, because I did start the gram effect and I just didn't like it. Oops.

I just. I don't know. You know, I actually. I didn't finish this book either, so maybe the last 30%. Last 25 was really good. And I just got 75 of the way through and I just didn't. I. I didn't feel the need to finish it. I respect that. Anyways, and then the next one, I Wild Love by Elsie Silver. And I just thought it was funny. It was hilarious. I loved it. I. I just loved it.

Did you like it better than Chestnut Springs? Compare the first Chestnut Springs book to the first. What's this one? Lakefront Billionaire or something?

So different because this is not like a cowboy romance at all.

It's not like. It's not. It's like smallish town, but it's not really, like, cowboy. Nothing about, like, cowboy stuff, if that makes sense. So I think they're just different. Honestly. It's been such a long time since I've read the first, like, powerless so far, because I've started the second one. I Like the first series better.

[Reggie]

Okay, okay.

[Mikayla]

But maybe it's because I just like a little bit. Like it just feels different. The first one, Chestnut springs like cowboy. Then, you know, some other contemporary romance books. But I just thought it was funny. Like the banter in it is just hilarious. Like they write emails back and forth.

[Kennedy]

Oh, I'm so ready for that.

[Mikayla]

And they're so funny. Like I was cackling. That's honestly probably my favorite part is the email portion. But there are some parts of it I don't know, they're just. I don't know. I just really like her books minus the spice.

[Kennedy]

Her plots and her banter are so good, but then the spice ruins it just a little bit for me. Maybe give me one to two less chapters. Yeah, I'm chilling.

[Mikayla]

I would say I feel like this is maybe a tad less spicy. At least the first book.

[Kennedy]

So anyways, I don't know, it was just something different and it's, you know, just really easy thing to read and it's just a mind numbing romance book. I was needing that. Yeah. So anyways, that's all I'll catch you guys up on. I've read a lot of other ones, but I'll save that for next time.

Very, very romancy. I love it.

[Mikayla]

Man, it's been a while. I'm like, what do I start with? I know Kennedy will probably talk about this book, Beartown.

[Mikayla]

Yeah.

[Reggie]

I won't say too much because Kennedy will have more to say about it. But I'm really glad I finished it. If you saw my Goodreads Update, I almost DNF'd it, but I ended up loving it after I finished. Just took me like a second to get into because it was just like a lot of. I was gonna say world building, but it's a small town building.

[Kennedy]

You know what I mean?

[Reggie]

Like getting to. There's so many characters you have to keep track of. And I loved how it ended and I'm really excited to continue. I think I'll love the next books even more. I did read Promise Me Sunshine by. I think it's Cara Bastone.

[Kennedy]

I've seen the Cara. Isn't it like a green or not green card?

[Reggie]

Yeah, they're like on a fairy.

[Mikayla]

Yeah, it was really good.

[Reggie]

But I. I don't know, I have like really mixed feelings about it. The audiobook was so good though. I don't know what it was about the narrator. But like, I really recommend listening to it because she did such a great job because the Character was kind of quirky, and she has a lot of, like, funny things that she says. Like, very sarcastic, very witty, and she just captured the character so well. I was very impressed with that audiobook narrator. It's definitely a slow burn. When I say slow burn, like, I mean, it actually is. So that's what I really loved about it.

Got me in my feels. It was sweet.

Was it a dual point of view or just single point of view?

[Reggie]

Single point of view. Sorry. I'm just gonna, like, go through some of these really quick then. My entire personality right now is the Hunger Games, because I finished Sunrise on the Reaping, and I'm sure Kennedy and Michaela are sick of me, like, mentioning it, but truly, like, it brought out my inner middle schooler, if you will. And I went and rewatched all the movies. I have just been, like, so back in my Hunger Games era, and it's been so fun. I think Sunrise on the Reaping has been. I don't know if it's been my favorite read this year. It's hard to tell, but I just loved it. And some people I've talked to have said they hated it. Okay. So I don't want to, like, over hype it, because some people are like, I did not enjoy that. They thought it was boring. I really, really loved it. And I literally cannot stop thinking about it. Any song I listen to, I'm like, and yeah, I'm obsessed.

[Kennedy]

So now I will say I was a hater of this book through and through. I was like, you know, you start excited for it. I'm not very far into it. Maybe, like, 15%. The only thing I'll say to you, Mikaela, is I already like it better than the Ballad of Songbirds and Sakes. Mm. But, I mean, the bar was pretty low.

[Mikayla]

Well, I think with. Sorry to go on this rampage with the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, it's about a villain. You already know he's the villain. And, like, I.

[Kennedy]

Sometimes.

[Mikayla]

I don't really care to be in the villain's pov. Like, I feel like anytime, like, author adds a villain pov, I hate it. And I know some people really enjoy it. Like, my husband loves being inside the villain's brain. I just could care less because I know the end outcome, you know?

[Reggie]

Yeah.

[Kennedy]

I almost wonder if that would have been the original first book if we all would have had a different experience, because we already know how bad President Snow is, and so to have any empathy towards him is really hard.

[Mikayla]

Yeah.

[Reggie]

I Also think that the reason that this book is better to me is it feels like Hunger Games. Like, it's kind of that same recipe that you've known and loved about the Hunger Games books.

[Mikayla]

Yeah.

[Kennedy]

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was like. I mean, it's the first Hunger Games, so.

[Reggie]

Or no, no, it's like the tenth.

[Kennedy]

The tenth Hunger Games or whatever. So I feel like it wasn't. It didn't feel the same.

[Reggie]

Yeah.

Yeah.

After I finished Sunrise on the Reaping, I was kicking myself in the pants for not reading Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. And I know you guys probably are like, nah, like, you didn't really miss out. I did watch the movie, but after I finished Sunrise on the Reaping, I was like, I hate myself for not reading it. So I'll go. I think before the movie comes out, I'll go re. Listen or read all the Hunger Games books. Because, yeah, I just. I truly love them. I really feel like those are the books that really got me into reading as a kid. And so anyways, it's just been very, like, nostalgic and. Yeah, I won't say much else, but it's been. It was. There's just something that put me back to my middle school days, and it was just a very. It was. It was great. So if you guys don't like it, I can maybe see why you might not.

But I will say the hype is the bar is really high.

[Reggie]

And I hate. Here's the thing. I hate myself for, like, TikTok.

[Kennedy]

Oh, yeah, it's TikTok.

It's everyone else.

I think it's one of those things that, like, if you don't like the book after you finish it or you're like, oh, is maybe like, a little overhyped. I have a bunch of things I would love to talk to you guys about that maybe would. Not that I want you to change your mind about it, but that could potentially change your mind about it. I think you just need to, like, go in with the expectation of just, like, yeah, Hunger Games vibes and pay attention to, like, small details. Because I think that Suzanne Collins literally thought of everything, and I was really impressed. Especially going and watching the movies after, I was like, this is insane. So I think it just really blew my mind. I don't know. I don't. I hate to be like, I'm over hype. I don't want to, like, over hype it more than needs to be. But that's just been. Literally been my entire personality. So, yeah. And then I finished say youy'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez. And I'm not going to say that much about it because I gonna wait for them to read it. I don't want to literally say like anything about it.

No.

Neither has mine.

Yeah, I listened to it, so I didn't physical book. I just feel like I had to listen to it because I've listened to all of Abby's books. I don't want to say much else about it. Well, I mean, I didn't really say anything about it, but you know, it's Abby Jimenez. She doesn't miss. But yeah, I will leave it at that. But I'm excited for you guys to read it because there's things I would really love to talk to you guys about about it. So I'll get to it as soon.

You know what? TikTok is a really scary place to.

Be right now because there's so many books being read. Everyone, Everybody's talking about them.

And I'm like, I haven't read them all yet. I'm trying to catch up.

Well, and like, it's easy to scroll past a video that like, someone's like, here's my review of blah, blah, blah, blah. Because you're like, okay, I don't want to listen to this yet. Or they'll even say like a non spoiler review, whatever. But some people just get right into it and they're like, I hate that. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Or, you know what I mean? Yeah, give us a quote from the books. And it's just how hard that.

I get it. We all get excited, but when you're not caught up, it's really overwhelming.

[Reggie]

I've literally had to be so meticulous about, like, planning out my books for this.

[Kennedy]

That sounds so crazy, but I get it. No, I get it.

[Reggie]

I literally have a note in my phone that's like, books I know I'm going to listen to and books I know I'm going to, like, physically read and when I want to read that. And if I'm not in the mood for it, I'm obviously not going to read it. But like, yeah, like, I'm literally terrified when this episode comes out. Reckless will have or Fearless. Sorry will have already come out by Lauren Roberts. My book supposed to be here tomorrow and I am like, I'm gonna have to literally, like, throw my phone into a room.

No, I also am really mad because there was a video I saw. I don't even think it was. I think it was just someone reacting to like an audio that Lauren has shared. A while ago, I think we even like did a TikTok of the audio. And I was like, I don't know why I was looking at the comments, but literally the first comment I saw was a girl saying, oh, I finished this book last week, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And it wasn't necessarily a spoiler, but. And now I'm like freaking pissed off that I saw that comment and I shouldn't have looked at the comments. That was my bad. I thought it was just like an. I don't know. I just love looking at TikTok comments sometimes because, you know, like, they're really. People are funny.

[Kennedy]

Yeah.

I think I was thinking based off the TikTok I saw that it was going to be like funny comments or something because I think she was talking about something funny with Kai. Anyways, the. I'm like, someone's already read it. Good for you. But I'm like, why are you. Oh, I don't know. I was really annoyed.

Sorry, sorry to be specific. So a few things that I've been reading. Honestly, I had two five star reads that I'm going to share with you guys, which is crazy. They were almost back to back, so yay for me. But I do have a bone pick to bone to pick with you guys because you guys chose the last letter by Rebecca Yaros to read on vacation for me. Yeah, it's not a vacation read. So it's just like you cry a lot. It's just. It's just a cry book. And it's, you know, it's not fun to sit and cry on the beach. Sand in your eyeballs, snot running down your face, your husband looking at you like you're a freak. People Playing on the beach, like, turning and being like, are you okay? No, I was not okay. I don't want to say much more than that because these two haven't read it, but I mean, it's a military romance by Rebecca Yarros. You kind of know what you can expect. And yeah, you'll. You'll cry. I think you guys will cry. But I mean, I cry in everything, so take that with a grain of salt.

Whenever you guys get to it, I think it'd be a great one to listen to or read. It was on Kindle Unlimited, so I physically read it and I rated it five stars. So that's the first Rebecca Yaros romance book I rated five stars.

So I'm excited for you guys to read it. And then I also rated Beartown five stars. And to Reggie's point, I do think part of the reason why I rated it five stars was because I. She gave me an expectation going in that I wouldn't have had had she not read it first.

[Reggie]

I really need to be better at keeping my mouth shut.

[Kennedy]

No, no, no, no, no. Because in this case, no, in this case, it was good. It was a good thing because she had kind of said that it was really slow at the beginning and it was hard to get into. So knowing that, I was prepared for it to be really slow. And this is a book that I feel like Beartown is something that you have to kind of just be patient with. And it sucks to say that because you get halfway through and you're like, what is the point of this? Because you're literally just following 12 people living in a small town. Nothing extraordinary is happening. You're just following them along on their day to day life. And so you feel like, this is so stupid. This is mundane. Why should I care? But then you find out why you should care.

Yeah, I think for me, like, you went in with low expectations because of me, but I felt like I was kind of went in with high expectations because I've heard nothing but, like, praise for that. The book, end of the series. There's 30 books, the trilogy, whatever. And so I was so nervous to start it because I was like, I hope I like this. And so I think I kind of. I went in with that expectation. It's so hard to go into a book blind a lot of the time or without any sort of expectation.

So I think the best way I can describe the first book is it's like the butterfly effect. Like how one person's decision can affect a whole bunch of people around them. And then also, yet at the same time, it really illustrates how small acts of kindness can really make a difference in someone's life. And that sounds so crazy. And I said this earlier today to these two, but I'm like, kind of entering a fiction moment in my reading journey. Like, I went to a few bookstores last week, and I didn't walk into a fantasy section. I literally was just looking at the fiction in the sci fi. It was the weirdest thing because I just am in this moment in time where, for some reason, fantasy, it just kind of all feels the same, you know? And I feel like we've all kind of been feeling like that. But yeah. So I rated Beartown 5 stars. Can't wait to go and continue on and read it. Read the series. And then what other books do I want to share? Let's go with Lost and Lassoed by Lila Sage, Single dad. I think single parent romance books just work for me. I don't know what it is.

They're just so good. And it's funny because my review was almost identical to yours.

Yeah. I literally put it's my favorite book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series. And then I said something about, like, the single dad trope. And you said almost the same thing.

So it was really funny. But, yeah, it was good. I mean, single dad. And if you don't want to know the trope, maybe skip 15 seconds. Single dad and sister's best friend. Which. Both tropes are so fun. And this one just worked a little bit better for me than the other two. I feel like the banter wasn't as cringy, but I did skip all the spicy scenes because I can't. I can't do. There's something about the way. Okay, I don't want to sound mean. There's just something about the way Lila Sage writes spice that doesn't jive with me. And I know it works for a lot of people. Just for me, it doesn't. I actually was sitting in the golf cart, and I would listen to it. I was listening to it in the golf cart while my husband golfed. So he was kind of listening to certain parts. A spicy scene came up, and I had to pause it. And then I opened the book to kind of skip through to make it through a spicy scene. And Kyle, like, looked over at my book and he read part of the spicy scene dialogue, and he was like, what does that say? So anyways, I rated that one. I think 3.75. Honestly. Cowboy romances. Right. They're just. They're just so good. And also the fact that it's in Wyoming and they talk about Jackson Hole.

And just things that, you know, we've been in, been to and seen, it just kind of makes it feel a.

Little bit more real. Yeah.
