Welcome Back to the Dr. Leslie Show. Not my usual setting, but I want to talk about Lindsay Clancy and the trial. And it ended late, and I got my kids to bed, and now I'm literally in my bedroom, and I'm just trying to find a quiet space where I can kind of explain to you why I think Lindsay Clancy genuinely had postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible for ending the lives of her three children and that everyone around her failed her. And as we begin this trial, it is already a giant shit show. So let me give you a little background and then kind of tell you how the trial's been going. And I'll. I'll keep up some recaps throughout this trial. It's anticipated to last six to eight weeks in Massachusetts. And I have to say, the lawyers are already a giant fucking disappointment to me. And the experts need to take the stand because that's. That is what is going to make this case for anybody. You need an expert who actually understands psychiatric medication, postpartum psychosis, psychosis, psychopathy, all that stuff. So, in January 2023, Lindsay Clancy fatally strangled her three little kids with exercise bands. She had been having serious, severe psychiatric, mental health, psychological, whatever you want to call it, issues for quite some time, and she was not getting the treatment she needed. She was on dozens of medications, switching them all around, seeing multiple providers. It was insane. And for anyone to say that it wasn't insanity, they do not understand. And you are uneducated, and I will stand by that. So she's in the throes of full fucking psychosis, and she's hearing command hallucinations that are telling her to send her husband out so that she can end the lives of her three children and then end her own life. And she tries. She jumps out of the second story window, she slices her wrists and her throat, she shatters her back, and she fractures her neck or fractures her back and then shatters her neck. She is wheelchair bound for the rest of her life. And now we enter trial, we're hearing so many more details that people didn't know in 2023. Now, she's been in a state psychiatric facility. And you guys know that's predominantly where I've spent a lot of my career. So I know she's getting care. I also know she's tried to end her life several times. She has two nurses sitting by her in the trial because she. I mean, how does she. She's out of the psychosis now. She's properly medicated, and she Murdered her three children. And we spent the past day listening to her ex husband, who's remarried now, talking about what happened. But here it's just falling apart already and it's just horrifying. So her children were five and three and then an eight month old and yes, postpartum usually starts within two weeks because it's a psychiatric emergency. Two weeks of birth about a babies and a mother will deal with severe postpartum psychosis. It's pretty rare. It's not depression, it's not anxiety, it's full psychosis. And you are much more likely to have it if there's a history of bipolar disorder in your family or in you. And who knows, after her second baby she was showing signs of mania and she may have had bipolar disorder. She was also a wonderful loving mom, a labor and delivery nurse and everyone loved her. She had friends from elementary school. School. She's had friends speaking out left and right and family. This came as a shock to everyone. But now if we look back, we see the red flags, we see the signs and we see the lack of treatment. So the pre trial element of this took three and a half years. I do not think the prosecution or the state should even be having this trial. She should be found not criminally responsible. In California, that's not guilty by reason of insanity. She did not premeditate this crime and she did not understand the consequences to her actions because she was psychotic. Hearing command hallucinations and I guarantee you based on my experience and training that that's what the jury will agree with at the end of this trial. But this trial seems like an unnecessary way for these attorneys to be on TV and be famous and to torture everyone involved. It seems sadistic and completely fucking unnecessary. So prosecution comes in hot and they're acting like it's 1950. They're saying that if you can say a whole sentence because she called CVS and asked for medicine for the kids, if you can order food and say what you want on the menu, if a month before the killings you can take your family to a water park, then there's absolutely no way that you could be mentally ill. And if you know anything about mental illness, like, I don't know, somebody who has studied it her entire career, none of that is fucking true. You can have severe mental illness, you could have mild mental illness and you are still capable of doing all the things that Lindsay Clancy did. So the prosecution is building this narrative that she was so high functioning and so controlling as a labor and delivery nurse that she wanted to actually end the lives of her children. It makes no fucking sense. And everyone in that jury should be offended because they are minimizing mental illness. They are basically saying, well, this one DA and you know, they chose a woman on purpose, but she's beastly and horrible. She's so bitchy. But they're basically saying that if you have any type of mental illness, you shouldn't have the capacity to do anything in your entire life. You are just foaming at the mouth, sitting in a corner like an old school psychiatric hospital. And I feel like that is what she actually thinks, that she's that underprepared, she's that uneducated. This attorney is just that unaware. But on the other side of it, the defense. So the husband has been on the stand for two days now. The defense started to cross on the husband. Now he's. He's a friendly expert. I'm sorry, he's not an expert. He's a friendly witness. And you can ask him tough questions. That's fine. Like, you can cross him. But the weird thing was the defense was just asking him about her medications. He's not a pharmacist. He's not a psychiatrist. He's like, in tech. The whole. The whole day was spent making the husband sound like. Like he was an uneducated psychiatrist. It just. It was absolutely ridiculous to me when the day should have been spent teaching the jury how Lindsay is, what a wonderful person Lindsay was, how nothing that she did aligned with anything that she actually stood for or was. And he even said in his gofundme, and he said again that he wants forgiveness. He doesn't want people to hurt her. This wasn't her. She was in the throes of psychosis because of postpartum psychosis, hormonal shifts, and all these fucked up medications that she was given. Those doctors and those psychiatric nurses, those facilities, the facility administrators, and there are numerous ones. They should be the ones testifying. They should be the ones on the stand. Let the husband lay the groundwork for why he married her, why he had three babies with her, why he loved her so much, how she was. They've known each other forever. But no, he spent the fucking day talking about her medications. Why would he even remember that? It's been three years. It's traumatic. He blurted out. And he's remarried now. These attorneys did not prepare. I don't think they knew that there was going to be so much hype around this case. And they fucking suck. And it's someone like me that consults with you as an attorney to tell you you're gonna sound like a fucking asshole. And this all is just so stupid. And you did not plan ahead or educate yourself on the reality of the crime or the mental health, the support systems, the people around. It's just a complete failure so far. And I hope that they see this video. I hope they see the social media uproar. We're on Court TV every day. I'm going to be on tomorrow. I'm going to be the next day. And I hope people see the reality of this situation, that this should have never gone to trial. This is so obviously postpartum psychosis with command hallucinations. Judge Sullivan, Yeah, Judge William Sullivan is the one overseeing this case. And I think he's done a really good job. He has. He has slowed down the arguments. He's made it less contentious. He has allowed the. The father to basically say, you know, I don't want a bunch of my kids pictures shown. I don't want this dramatized to the point where it's just to evoke emotion. Like he's. He's reigning in. And I think he's doing a very sound job right now. But I also think there's not much to do right now because the lawyers suck when they could have already planted so many seeds and done such good work. What's the deal with fucking Massachusetts? They did play the 911 call, and people in the court were sobbing and it was horrifying. And the father was begging Lindsay to wake up, begging the children to wake up. Absolutely horrified. Two of the children were dead on scene. One later died in the hospital. The baby. The whole thing sounded like the worst horror movie. They wouldn't even make. They wouldn't even make a horror movie like this. It's so horrifying. And can you imagine coming out of your psychosis where you were not in reality, you were not in your brain, you had no idea what was going on. Coming out and realizing that you took the lives of your children and that you're paralyzed for the rest of your life. I hate to say it. No, I don't hate to say it, because it's true. This wasn't her fault. Criminally, she did not intend to do this. And everyone in my fucking comments on social media is coming in saying, yes, she did. Every single comment shows me that you are not educated on all of these areas. And you have not one worked a not guilty by reason of insanity trial. You haven't done an evaluation for somebody claiming not guilty by reason of insanity. You haven't even met somebody insane. You haven't met anyone with postpartum psychosis, and you haven't seen any of this play out before. But guess what, guys? I have. And I am telling you exactly what is happening and what is going to happen. Okay, so that's my brief update of where we stand right now. I'm sure I left things out. Trial will continue tomorrow. We are going to have the husband still on the sand. To me, he does have some responsibility, but I think the responsibility largely lies on the fact that he was not educated on what was going on with her at the time. She said she wanted to kill her children at one point, but then he thought that she got better. And to me, it really feels like he did not know. He didn't understand the diagnosis, he didn't understand what was going on. And the medical personnel that surrounded them for months didn't educate him. There was no follow through. She was being seen in facilities that were not capable wool to see her. She was being given medications that she should have been given in an inpatient residential setting like Seroquel. So all of this, it just, it's so messy. But I want you guys to hang on. I want you to be open minded. I want you to watch this trial because as we bring the experts in now, I'm talking about actual experts that are unbiased and they're analyzing the entire situation. I want you to listen to what they have to say on both sides, defense and prosecution. I bet you prosecution is, oh my God, I'll rip them a new one when they, when they start. Let's be there for that video. But also, if you can call them experts, the nurse practitioners and the doctors that were seeing her, that were prescribing the medication to her, that should have been educating her, her husband, her mother, the family that was all involved. There's so much failure. And so what I hope is that the defense attorney stands the fuck up and is actually hardcore with the failures of these doctors and nurses and really understands what the experts he's hired, psychiatry, psychology, postpartum maternal experts, what they have to offer and how they can explain what the hell has happened in this case. And if you want an example, go back to the Andrea Yates case. They didn't understand at first and they put her in prison. She had a second trial, better lawyers, more education, and she got not guilty by reason of insanity. And she will be civilly committed in a state hospital for the rest of her life, which Lindsay Clancy will likely be too So I will come back with some random updates over the next, I guess, the next, like, five, seven weeks. That's the estimate. Unless the prosecution just fucking gives up because they suck so much. But anyways, I'll keep you updated. Happy Wednesday. And I will see you guys next. You know what?
