God Stepping in or Angels interceding on our behalf to save of us from certain things (Car Crash, Muggings, Drowning, Etc.), in certain situations. Or maybe direct us down a different path, etc. And if NOT, then please explain what you think all these stories could be.(9:48 into episode) April 5- When Jesus says not to store up treasure on earth was that literal or about our hearts? Is saving for a vacation, or saving into a pension, or for kids educations, storing up treasure or wisdom because our lives have some huge expenses? What about wanting to pass on inheritance to your children? If we take it literally, like the early disciples would we sell all our belongings, all the excess, instead of saving, give it away to the poor, but that doesn’t seem very wise. This weeks episode covers the following questions: (2:00 into episode) Mar 28- I’m finding Matthew 23:1-4 (below) very troublesome. Why would Jesus tell the people to do what the Pharisees tell them to do just because they sit in Moses seat? First off, he himself says that it is a cumbersome heavy load, in other words that it’s not really necessary, so why wouldn’t he just tell them to use common sense and do what they need to do instead? Secondly, he would know that soon it would be redundant to offer sacrifices, etc., because he would die on the cross and negate their necessity, so why would he make a point of telling them that they have to do all these cumbersome things their leaders are telling them to do? And what are we supposed to get from this? Only that we should also practice what we preach and not be demanding? I don’t get the point of all this. Thank you.Matthew 23:1-4“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them."(23:22 into episode)Mar 29- Acts 1:18 says, “(With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out.”But, the gospels tell us that Judas hung himself. (2:02 into episode) Mar 8- I must admit, a life with Jesus sounds a lot more exciting when I look at it through the lens of prosperity gospel teaching. I am all in, but how do we get excited about a life with Jesus when it truly is giving up of my own desires, hopes, dreams? I know in my head that his ways are better for me but a life with Jesus feels more difficult and painful in many ways than going my own way. To lay down my life is really hard, especially when I don’t get to look at it through the prosperity lens of trusting that I will get something i deem as “good” in return for my sacrifices. I know a life with Jesus is a good gift but why doesn’t it feel that way?(23:16 into episode)Mar 20- Doug did you even watch Frozen yet? I honestly find it much Easier talking to those who don’t know Jesus at all than trying to encourage my family who knew god and were hurt by the church and decided to leave it all Behind. Would love any tips or insights you might have(10:26 into episode) Mar 4- The story in the Old Testament of Jacob wrestling with God doesn’t make any sense to me. I don’t know why he was physically wrestling with God and I don’t know why God would hurt him by dislocating his hip socket or whatever. And why did Jacob prevail instead of God in the first place? I feel like we can justify it as we justify anything, but it is a bizarre incident by any measurement.(22:47 into episode)Mar 7- Why do you think it says that God created the heavens and the Earth? Did God not already have heaven? And why did God need the Earth? Maybe to escape to? Maybe to have some darkness? But then he thought it was too much darkness and made half of the time light but he left some darkness? Why did he leave darkness if he is light? Even if this is metaphorical, which I don’t believe it was,what does it mean?Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? Is there anything in the Bible that discusses the issue of excess (specifically in terms of weight) and having a relationship with god? (I.e. is it a sin to be fat / indulge in excess)?(12:09 into episode) Feb 25- I understand what it means to love the Lord, my God with all my heart and all my mind, but what does it mean to love with all my soul?(28:54 into episode) Feb 27- I don’t know if this has been asked before, as I am a newer listener: What is your personal and biblical opinion on spanking your children?As a newer parent, spankings have never felt right to me. I grew up with Christians quoting Proverbs 13 as a reason why we should spank our children. I have recently heard the argument that sparing the rod is more in the context of a shepherds rod and not spanking. That we are to shepherd our children. Sorry I guess I did not realize questions were not edited as far as correcting the grammar. ,I wasn't thinking about that.(4:28 into episode)Feb 20- In Hebrews 6:4 it says “ It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen[c] away, to be brought back to repentance.” Does this mean that there is no hope for those of faith who have chosen to walk away? How do we reconcile this verse with Jesus’ statement that nothing is impossible for God? Would love to hear your thoughts as I have several friends and family members who in the last few years have walked away from faith(20:59 into episode)Feb 22- Do you think we could benefit from changing the words in most of our worship songs from ‘I’ to ‘WE’ as we’re called to corporately worship together and so many of the songs we sing are about my response to God.Feb 22 - How are you coping with, what feels like a continuous failure of church leaders or ministry leaders - when the recent bethel revelations.
