We were just talking. Lisa Rinna was my 11th guest in 2017 when we started this show. And then you came back three months later and then we never saw you again.

But here you are and here I am.

Lucky because we had Harry Hamlin on last year in March.

And you remember things. I would never remember the date. I would never remember the time.

I happen to keep an eight year schedule of this show of who was on the dates and the songs we played.

I love Harry. And so he came on. He came on and we did a. We did. We taste tested his pasta sauce and we loved it. But then I found out that he's now released three more sauces.

It's because you never go to the grocery store.

That is true. I haven't been since COVID Lisa, why?

I love going to the grocery store.

I like to go to Gelson's, but just. That's my store. And then he happened to get his sauce in the store. That's my place. I like Gelson's.

How often do you go grocery shopping, Lisa?

Well, it just depends, But I like to go grocery shopping. I'm a grocery shopper. I like to go. I like to have my cart. I like to wander around. I have a really good Gelson's I go to. So it's like my Gelsons.

Are you going to the Valley Gelson's? Are you?

Yeah.

That's where Kyle Richards goes. A lot of people go over the hill to the Valley Gelsons.

Yeah, I go right there. I like them both. Oh, yeah.

Okay. So he's. Okay. So I have the rosemary red wine at home, but now he's got the lemon pepper dill. Oh, the marinara.

Marinara is so good. And the spicy vodka. That's the one.

Marinara is my friend Robin's favorite. She loves it. So everybody kind of has their favorite. Some people love Fujiji.

And I. You know, and I know it's supposed to be favored nations, but I feel like you negotiated more.

I don't think it's favored nations.

I mean, I don't know, but.

So I never watched it and now I'm in it. I am so in it. I'm so invested. I just. Right off the top, who were your favorites in the house?

[Lisa Rinna]

You know, I loved everybody, which is so shocking because that has not been my experience in group settings or life or in life.

[Jeff Lewis]

That's not been my experience either.

[Lisa Rinna]

Right. So I was really surprised to go on this show and be good with 22 different people.

[Dorit Kemsley]

Wow.

[Lisa Rinna]

All of them. I love them all and I don't know what that's about.

[Dorit Kemsley]

I was thinking that last night when I was looking on Instagram because you and Colton obviously had your moments, but now he's liking all your posts and you're commenting back and forth. I feel like you guys are good.

[Lisa Rinna]

Well, here's the thing. Colton was a great nemesis for me on that show. I'd never had a gay man come after me. I had women come after me. And here this gay man is just sting or missile on me. And I was actually grateful for it. I was like, wow, cool. But I didn't know anything before. Like, I didn't know his past. I didn't.

[Jeff Lewis]

So he's a friend of the show. He's on the show a lot.

[Lisa Rinna]

Is he?

[Jeff Lewis]

Yeah, he's great. We like him here at Jeff Lewis Life.

[Lisa Rinna]

I had a great time with him. I really did.

I think the problem is, is that, you know, he's tall and he's good looking and he's charming and he can sway the vote just like Rob can do.

I'm watching these guys work these women and work these gates. I mean, Johnny Weir, I mean, he just follows those guys. Just tell him where to go and Johnny just follows.

The dynamic is so hilarious. Watching it now after doing it, you don't know all of that's going on. You know, you only kind of know what you know. And then once I start to see that, you know, Colton and Rob have this alliance. I had no idea while we were there. None.

[Jeff Lewis]

That Rob fucked you over.

[Lisa Rinna]

He fucked me over so hard, didn't he? I had no idea.

[Jeff Lewis]

Aren't you a little bit pissed?

[Lisa Rinna]

Well, here's the thing. I'm a little bit. That he broke up the group.

It was really the best trader group, I think of all time. So that's where I was like, listen, it's a game. He's playing it way better than I ever could have thought to Play it. So I can't fault him for that, but I can be like, okay, Robbie, Bobby's in the doghouse and he's a very bad boy. And I spanked him right after he gave me the first vote. I literally took him out in the hallway and I spanked him. And the other people who voted for me, Natalie, Eric and someone else I put in the corner and made them have a timeout. That's the truth. So I had fun in every single moment. I have now.

I love Michael Rapoport.

[Lisa Rinna]

I do, too.

What is it? I mean, I just. I loved him. I thought he was great. Television.

[Lisa Rinna]

Are you kidding me? As traitors, we just sat back and we were like, he's the best shield possible. I didn't have to do anything. For the first four episodes. I just sat there, like, smoking a cigarette. Basically because he did everything.

[Jeff Lewis]

He was great for the traitors.

[Lisa Rinna]

And do you know what?

[Jeff Lewis]

Great for the traitors.

He can say everything I've ever said on Housewives. Every housewife. He knows more about me and other housewives than I have ever known. He's amazing. I love him. I agree. I love him.

Now, Caroline Stansberry, she's gonna be on next week. And I'm probably guessing she doesn't like you.

[Lisa Rinna]

She's okay with me. Listen, I've known Caroline for 10 years. Every time she sees me, she takes the piss out of me. She's a Brit. She fucks with me. We have this whole sarcastic thing going. Whatever. She deserved that more than anybody. It was so much fun.

You murdered her.

[Lisa Rinna]

I gave her the greatest soap opera moment. I put my soap pad on in that moment. I was like, I'm gonna give her a great death. So much better than if she'd had to walk in the room and pick up the envelope and be like, bop, wah, wah. I gave her a great ending.

I did love that she called you a bitch.

[Lisa Rinna]

Wasn't it great?

And that dialogue back and forth was just, like, completely improvised. It was great.

And expectations are resentments waiting to happen, period. So I didn't like that. You know, I didn't. I was like, I'm a traitor. I don't have to have an alliance with a housewife. I don't have to have an alliance with anyone. I'm a fucking traitor. So that's why I'm not mad at Rob in the end, because he's a traitor. That's what you do. But would I have liked to not have him come for me? Yeah, of course.

See, I didn't think you were a great trader.

[Lisa Rinna]

I wasn't a great trader, but I was fucking iconic.

Did you feel like you were being quiet?

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, I knew I was being quiet. That was a choice. Listen, I had to really play it very carefully. If I'd been too loud, I'd have been called out for that also. So I chose the quiet round because I knew that that was the way most people got further along. So I chose that.

[Jeff Lewis]

You look cute on the show. Do you do your own makeup?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah, you have to do your own hair and makeup.

[Jeff Lewis]

You look good.

[Lisa Rinna]

Well, thanks. Because, I mean, HDTV lighting, and doing your own hair and makeup in a castle with, like, no lighting. Like, that ain't easy.

How was the food, really?

[Lisa Rinna]

It sucked.

[Jeff Lewis]

Okay. I figured it sucked. Cause they're all fighting over the salmon.

[Lisa Rinna]

Well, here's the thing. I'm gonna tell you the truth. There's not enough protein. That's why they're fighting over the salmon in the morning. Cause if you think about it, there's the salmon and there are those eggs. That's it. The rest is like sweet rolls and toast.

[Dorit Kemsley]

Is that your actual breakfast that we see?

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, yeah. And that's your actual dinner. And you're eating on camera, guys. There's never enough food.

[Dorit Kemsley]

That's why Michael eats like that.

Everyone's starving to death. He's shoveling in.

It looks like an airport lounge. Ew, the food, it's terrible. It's giving. American Airlines.

There's not enough protein. So we were always saying, can we have more chicken breasts? Can we have more anything? And it got better. Did get better. But listen, at that point, you just have to shovel food in your mouth so you can survive, you know?

God, I was bummed that you left and I was bummed that mom was.

[Lisa Rinna]

I wasn't. I was not. Here's what I thought in my mind, if I can go seven episodes and I just need to stay long enough so I can wear that couture gown, because that's all I wanted. And so I feel like a winner because, listen, did I really want to win? Did I really care? I don't know. I never thought I would win.

[Jeff Lewis]

It's not life changing money.

[Lisa Rinna]

It's not life changing money. I can make that, like, in an afternoon. I mean, I have to be honest about it.

I understand.

Like, I would love for people to have that money that some of those people need it.

Some of those people. You did a good thing for those people.

I know I did. So. Right.

She's like, no, I have to go get on the bus and go to the dentist. And he kept at it, Kept at it. She felt sorry for him. She got in the car. As they started driving. He was not stuttering. Stop stuttering. And she was like, oh, something's not right. David, what's going on? Why are you not. What are you doing? Lois? I just. Something comes over me. And he starts to drive her down the Presidio, which is like a military base in San Francisco. Luckily, a military policeman sees them drive down this deserted road. I know. It gives me chills. You're getting, like, shaking.

He's always shaking. He's cold. He wears £92.

Well, that's true. You need more layers. Anyway, so luckily, a military police saw Them go down. As he goes down, drives my mom down. He stops the car, takes a gun or takes a knife out of the glove box, goes at my mom with a knife. She grabs it with her hand, so slices off her fingers. Her fingers are, like, dangling. And then David sees the military police in the mirror, the rear view mirror. So he reaches in the back of the car, gets a hammer, starts hitting her over the head with a hammer. And that is the story. She drops her purse. Somehow her door opens, drops her purse out. And all she wanted to do, she's in shock, obviously, is pick up the contents of her purse as a girly girl. The guy gets out. David Carpenter gets out. The military policeman shoots him in the stomach, and he lives.

It's a crazy story.

[Lisa Rinna]

Goes to prison, plea deal for six years. Gets out. Once he gets out, he kills about 25 people.

[Jeff Lewis]

Oh, yeah. It's a trailside killer. Two different killings, like trailside, mill valley. Like 25. Who knows how many. He's like a Ted Bundy that just didn't get press. And didn't, you know, he didn't have the right publicist.

He didn't have Jeff, so he didn't have stories written about him. But he killed as many people. It's crazy. So there were only three women who survived. And during the penalty phase, my mom had to go testify. All three had to go testify. So I went and watched.

21 years old. It's traumatic.

You're welcome. All right, so I do want to talk to you. I'm sure it just is going to follow you for the rest of your life, but Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, you were on season five through 12.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yes. Eight years.

[Jeff Lewis]

And I'm curious where you're at today, because I had read that you were not completely happy about how they handled your exit.

[Lisa Rinna]

I was not.

[Jeff Lewis]

How long ago was that? Did you leave? What season?

[Lisa Rinna]

Three years.

[Jeff Lewis]

Okay, three years. And how do you feel today?

[Lisa Rinna]

Today I am in a much better place, obviously, than I was three years ago. You know, my mother had passed away, and, you know, truth be told, I should have taken a moment and not maybe done that year and just done the grieving and not done the show. I think that was where I made a mistake.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yes.

[Lisa Rinna]

Because I'm a worker bee and I'm like, I have a contract. I gotta go do it. And I was not in a headspace to do that. And it fucked me up. And it was difficult, you know, it was difficult to grieve in the public eye. And I also don't think that people are comfortable watching other people grieve. It's too painful. And I think I triggered a lot of stuff in people. They didn't know why they were upset with me, but I think that had something to do with it. So it was a really, really difficult ending to that chapter.

[Jeff Lewis]

You were in pain.

[Lisa Rinna]

I was in a lot of pain. And I'm totally different now. That show was great for me. I wouldn't change it. It's a difficult show to do when it's that. When it's painful like that. It became toxic. I think everyone can agree it was a toxic season. And I'm just glad that I am where I am now.

[Jeff Lewis]

I mean, we talked about this briefly before the show, but I mean, it launched your daughter's careers. I mean, look where they are today.

[Lisa Rinna]

It certainly did. I mean, that show, listen, you've got to do something with it. You and they did.

[Jeff Lewis]

You also killed it on qvc.

[Lisa Rinna]

I had a great run at qvc. Eight years.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

You know, it has been really great. I mean, I have been really fortunate. I'm glad that it ended. I'm really happy to not be a housewife, to not be in that world anymore. I really love where I am now. I'm an actor at the end of the day, you know.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yes. However, you just never know what the future holds. Right?

[Lisa Rinna]

Correct.

[Jeff Lewis]

I never in a million years thought I would be back at Bravo. But then, you know, there's other reasons.

[Lisa Rinna]

Right.

[Jeff Lewis]

Which you and I discussed. And, you know, I'll tell you, for me, I was lucky because, you know, the dissolution of my relationship, I mean, if we had had a season 12, all of that would have been exposed and covered. And I think that would have been bad for the both of us and bad for Monroe. It just, it's. In a way, I was very, very lucky. However, I don't love how they handled it. My exit either.

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, you don't?

[Jeff Lewis]

I don't. And so I want to say first six months, 12 months, not happy.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah.

[Jeff Lewis]

But then you kind of. And it's funny because the second my mindset switched where I was, grateful new.

[Lisa Rinna]

Show showed up, right?

[Jeff Lewis]

The second.

[Lisa Rinna]

Exactly. Now it has to organically happen. Right. Like, it took me a little bit longer than that. I would say yes. But the minute that happened, boom. Look, I mean, the fashion career took off, like, all of a sudden. That was not on my bingo card.

[Jeff Lewis]

I have to ask you about that because I see you over and over and over again being photographed at every high end fashion show wearing this. These crazy, like, outfits. You're like the fashion it girl now.

[Lisa Rinna]

It's crazy. It's just crazy. It's.

[Jeff Lewis]

It is insane.

[Lisa Rinna]

I know. Like, I would never have thought that that is what would have happened after I left Housewives. Right?

[Jeff Lewis]

You're at every show.

[Lisa Rinna]

I know.

[Jeff Lewis]

How does this happen?

[Lisa Rinna]

Well, all I can tell you is I've had that passion and I've loved fashion my whole life, so that's already there. So the universe must have just said, you know what? I'm gonna just do this for you. Now you're gonna go here. And I'm like, okay. And literally I got a call. Jeff, my publicist called me and said, do you think you would wanna get on a plane in four days and go to Paris for a fashion show? And I was like, yeah. So I did, and they flew me there and they put me up in the George Sank and they flew Jeff there with me. And it was so magical. We went to the Kenzo show and I thought, okay, you know what, this is really fun. And I said, why don't we stay for the whole fashion week? So we did, and called Jeff and invite me to other shows. And I just kept saying yes. And now three years later, here we are. I just keep saying yes. Okay, yes. It's couture, honey. Yes. Okay.

[Jeff Lewis]

So it sounds to me like it's a paid gig. And then they pay. They pay for you to go, and then they give you clothes. Like, do you get to keep the clothes?

[Lisa Rinna]

You don't get to keep the clothes, but.

[Jeff Lewis]

So you borrow the clothes. They put you in the clothes.

[Lisa Rinna]

They put you in the clothes. You pick the clothes you want to wear. Like, it's every. Every part is different. Sometimes they pay you, sometimes they cover hair and makeup. And like, it depends. It really depends. I'm not doing it as a money making thing, though. It is very. Been very valuable.

[Jeff Lewis]

Brought you a lot of exposure.

[Lisa Rinna]

It has. So it's really, really valuable. But at the end of the day, I just love. So I'm having so much fun.

[Jeff Lewis]

So there's. It looks like there's a few calls. I'll just. I'm going to just summarize it for you. Okay. They want to know who are you friends with, with your former castmates, which I'm sure everybody would like to know.

[Lisa Rinna]

That I'm happy to tell you.

Erica Kyle. Teddy Dorit.

[Jeff Lewis]

Mm. And that's it.

Now it's interesting because, you know, did she say this in her book, Annie, that Crystal Minkoff is not a great housewife?

[Lisa Rinna]

I did. And she agrees with it.

[Jeff Lewis]

She comes on this show a lot. We're good friends. And she is so different on this show than she was in the Housewives. But you have to understand, you know, they have a lot to protect. Right. Rob Minkoff's career. Like, I think she went in and.

[Dorit Kemsley]

She'S like, put pressure on herself.

[Jeff Lewis]

And, you know, you had a lot to protect, too. And it seems to me that there was a point in time where you insulated Harry Hamlin from that show.

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, from day one, you had to. Oh, day one. No, we had a special deal. I mean, that's the truth. We had a special deal that Harry Hamlin would only have to show up three times because I did not want to ruin his career.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yes.

[Lisa Rinna]

And, you know, at the end of the day, Andy said, okay. And otherwise, I wouldn't have done the show. Cause I was not gonna jeopardize his career. So we made a deal, and that's. They stuck to it. And I stuck to it, too.

[Jeff Lewis]

Is it?

[Annie]

I also thought it was interesting. She said she didn't drink on camera. She was on camera for, like, twice.

[Lisa Rinna]

For five years, I did not drink. Now, the last three, I did. But for the first five years, I was stone cold sober that whole time.

[Jeff Lewis]

Did Harry suggest that?

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, he said, you must not drink.

[Dorit Kemsley]

Really?

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, yeah. He said, if you're gonna do this show, you cannot drink. And I was like, okay, I think that's probably good advice.

[Annie]

That's smart.

[Lisa Rinna]

Now, Amsterdam happened during that time. I wasn't drunk. I wasn't straight up. Just clear as a bell.

[Jeff Lewis]

Were you the first actress to ever be.

[Lisa Rinna]

My first. Eileen. And I came out at the same time. The same time. Remember the first year I auditioned for Housewives and Andy. I got very far. And then Andy said, I didn't know that. Yeah. Andy said, no actors. I was like, okay, cool. Yeah, I was there. I was up there with Kyle and Vanderpump and Adrian. Yeah. I didn't know what I was doing. And I was like, all right, whatever. And then he was like, no actresses. So five years later, it was really interesting when I got the call that maybe that was something we would talk about. And I thought that could be interesting. It's good real estate. That's what I thought.

[Jeff Lewis]

I was like, you know, you recognize opportunities.

[Lisa Rinna]

I do. So do you. You and I have that in common. Because you've been doing this for, what, 37 years.

[Jeff Lewis]

Wow.

[Lisa Rinna]

It's a long time.

[Jeff Lewis]

So a lot of it is. You know, you said that Jeff, your publicist, talked you into traders.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah. Oh, the whole team did. Cause I watched it. I really liked it. But I said, I'd rather watch it than do it. I don't want to do it. I like to watch it. And then, you know, took about six months, and they, like, just kept talking about the value of it, the endorsements that you can get from it, how hot it was, yada, yada, yada. And then I was like, all right, okay, I'll do it.

[Jeff Lewis]

How long were you gone?

[Lisa Rinna]

It's like three weeks.

[Jeff Lewis]

Okay.

[Lisa Rinna]

It's pretty short, but it's long. You know what I mean? It's short, but it's long. It's super intense.

[Jeff Lewis]

Long shooting days.

[Lisa Rinna]

Uh huh. 18 hours.

[Jeff Lewis]

I'm not very patient. Are you redoing and.

[Dorit Kemsley]

Oh, you would. The walk ups, the drones, you would hate it.

[Lisa Rinna]

Yes. But you know this show, they don't produce you. No one's coming in and talking to you. And that was refreshing. Cause they really let the game play out and I really liked that a lot.

[Jeff Lewis]

Do they have to knock on the door so loud every single time?

[Lisa Rinna]

Yeah. And it becomes a joke. You know, people like start to do. Yeah, it's part of the game. It's a game, you guys. It's a game.

[Dorit Kemsley]

What I read, which I would struggle with, is that apparently you can't shower after the challenges before you go in for the round table and to dinner. Is that true?

[Lisa Rinna]

Well, there's really no time, so that's terrible.

[Dorit Kemsley]

I mean that.

[Lisa Rinna]

Okay, here's the thing. You cannot be a diva on this show. You can't.

[Dorit Kemsley]

Oh, Jeff's out.

[Lisa Rinna]

You cannot. There's no diva. Like, I had to literally take my diva. I don't have much of a diva. I really don't. Little bit comes out from time to time. I had to put her in the corner because, I mean, what you go through on that show is you just have to buck up if you're gonna do the show. You buck up. You redo your hair and makeup after you've literally been sweating and gross in these challenges. These challenges are hard.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yeah.

[Lisa Rinna]

I mean, Dorinda and I should have had blood pressure taken and our oxygen taken after these.

[Jeff Lewis]

Like it was some of those challenges hard.

[Lisa Rinna]

And then you have to get cute again. Like you just did it. Cause you had like a time limit. And they were like, okay, we need you in 20 minutes. And you're like, I'm too vain. I don't wanna look gross on camera. So, like, if you have to like wash your pits with, you know, do a horse bath, I call it. Yeah, you do it. You just did it.

[Jeff Lewis]

Wow. I'd have to put my diva in the corner.

[Lisa Rinna]

You have to put your diva.

[Jeff Lewis]

She'd have to go in the corner.

[Dorit Kemsley]

She has a tough time in the corner.

[Jeff Lewis]

She really does.

[Lisa Rinna]

It was hard and I think people were really kind of impressed with that a little bit with me because they were like, wow, look at Rinna. She's just like bucking up. Yeah, I just bucked up. I never complained. I just so I think that was a really good lesson for me.

[Jeff Lewis]

Who complained a lot? Because I would complain a lot.

[Dorit Kemsley]

You would complain a lot.

[Lisa Rinna]

Mara. I love Mara. She's so funny. She's like. The thing is, I would like someone to come shoot me in the head with a machine gun. What the fuck are we doing here? What the fuck are we doing? I love her so much. Really.

[Jeff Lewis]

She was really funny.

[Lisa Rinna]

Oh, my God. So funny. Jating is that accent like, she's a traitor. She's so funny. She'd be doing this. She was like, what the are we doing? Why are we doing this? Like, she is hilarious.
