I literally took him out in the hallway and I spanked him. And the other people who voted for me, Natalie, Eric and someone else I put in the corner and made them have a timeout. That's the truth. So I had fun in every single moment. I have now.

Lisa's gonna fucking freak out. What do we do? He goes, I'm gonna call Chaz Dean. It's like a Saturday. Saturday afternoon, Chaz comes To the house. Delilah hasn't seen herself in the mirror yet. And we have, like, these mirrors in our. In our playroom. So they called the pediatrician. They were like, what do we do? They were like, cover the mirrors. So they, like, put paper all over the mirrors. Chaz comes over and gives her, like, has to give her a pixie puff haircut. Cut all of it off. The next day, she put a bandana on. We took her to Disneyland so that, you know, she was devastated when she found out what she had done. Chaz fixed it and then it grew out into, like, the cutest. Shag asked Shag asked Shag.

Yeah, Lisa, I will. Okay. So my mom was 30, living in San Francisco. She was working with this guy, and she felt sorry for him. He had a stutter. And one day she was at the bus stop going to the dentist. He came by the bus stop. He said, lois, I want to take you to meet my new baby. Married, had a new baby. She's like, no, I have to go get on the bus and go to the dentist. And he kept at it, Kept at it. She felt sorry for him. She got in the car. As they started driving. He was not stuttering. Stop stuttering. And she was like, oh, something's not right. David, what's going on? Why are you not. What are you doing? Lois? I just. Something comes over me. And he starts to drive her down the Presidio, which is like a military base in San Francisco. Luckily, a military policeman sees them drive down this deserted road. I know. It gives me chills. You're getting, like, shaking.

Jeff Lewis (26:53)

He's always shaking. He's cold. He wears £92.

Lisa Rinna (26:57)

Well, that's true. You need more layers. Anyway, so luckily, a military police saw Them go down. As he goes down, drives my mom down. He stops the car, takes a gun or takes a knife out of the glove box, goes at my mom with a knife. She grabs it with her hand, so slices off her fingers. Her fingers are, like, dangling. And then David sees the military police in the mirror, the rear view mirror. So he reaches in the back of the car, gets a hammer, starts hitting her over the head with a hammer. And that is the story. She drops her purse. Somehow her door opens, drops her purse out. And all she wanted to do, she's in shock, obviously, is pick up the contents of her purse as a girly girl. The guy gets out. David Carpenter gets out. The military policeman shoots him in the stomach, and he lives.

It's a crazy story.

Lisa Rinna (27:54)

Goes to prison, plea deal for six years. Gets out. Once he gets out, he kills about 25 people.

Jeff Lewis (28:01)

Oh, yeah. It's a trailside killer. Two different killings, like trailside, mill valley. Like 25. Who knows how many. He's like a Ted Bundy that just didn't get press. And didn't, you know, he didn't have the right publicist.

He didn't have Jeff, so he didn't have stories written about him. But he killed as many people. It's crazy. So there were only three women who survived. And during the penalty phase, my mom had to go testify. All three had to go testify. So I went and watched.

21 years old. It's traumatic.

Yeah.

Yeah. The two other women, they were raped horribly, but they survived. All of them got away. Everybody else.

And I'm curious where you're at today, because I had read that you were not completely happy about how they handled your exit.

I was not.

How long ago was that? Did you leave? What season?

Okay, three years. And how do you feel today?

Today I am in a much better place, obviously, than I was three years ago. You know, my mother had passed away, and, you know, truth be told, I should have taken a moment and not maybe done that year and just done the grieving and not done the show. I think that was where I made a mistake.

Jeff Lewis (36:16)

Yes.

Lisa Rinna (36:17)

Because I'm a worker bee and I'm like, I have a contract. I gotta go do it. And I was not in a headspace to do that. And it fucked me up. And it was difficult, you know, it was difficult to grieve in the public eye. And I also don't think that people are comfortable watching other people grieve. It's too painful. And I think I triggered a lot of stuff in people. They didn't know why they were upset with me, but I think that had something to do with it. So it was a really, really difficult ending to that chapter.

Jeff Lewis (36:53)

You were in pain.

Lisa Rinna (36:54)

I was in a lot of pain. And I'm totally different now. That show was great for me. I wouldn't change it. It's a difficult show to do when it's that. When it's painful like that. It became toxic. I think everyone can agree it was a toxic season. And I'm just glad that I am where I am now.

Jeff Lewis (37:18)

I mean, we talked about this briefly before the show, but I mean, it launched your daughter's careers. I mean, look where they are today.

Lisa Rinna (37:26)

It certainly did. I mean, that show, listen, you've got to do something with it. You and they did.

Jeff Lewis (37:32)

You also killed it on qvc.

Lisa Rinna (37:35)

I had a great run at qvc. Eight years.

Jeff Lewis (37:37)

You know, it has been really great. I mean, I have been really fortunate. I'm glad that it ended. I'm really happy to not be a housewife, to not be in that world anymore. I really love where I am now. I'm an actor at the end of the day, you know.

Yes. However, you just never know what the future holds. Right?

I never in a million years thought I would be back at Bravo. But then, you know, there's other reasons.

Which you and I discussed. And, you know, I'll tell you, for me, I was lucky because, you know, the dissolution of my relationship, I mean, if we had had a season 12, all of that would have been exposed and covered. And I think that would have been bad for the both of us and bad for Monroe. It just, it's. In a way, I was very, very lucky. However, I don't love how they handled it. My exit either.

Lisa Rinna (38:38)

Oh, you don't?

I don't. And so I want to say first six months, 12 months, not happy.

Lisa Rinna (38:44)

Yeah.

But then you kind of. And it's funny because the second my mindset switched where I was, grateful new.

Show showed up, right?

Exactly. Now it has to organically happen. Right. Like, it took me a little bit longer than that. I would say yes. But the minute that happened, boom. Look, I mean, the fashion career took off, like, all of a sudden. That was not on my bingo card.

I have to ask you about that because I see you over and over and over again being photographed at every high end fashion show wearing this. These crazy, like, outfits. You're like the fashion it girl now.

It's crazy. It's just crazy. It's.

I know. Like, I would never have thought that that is what would have happened after I left Housewives. Right?

Jeff, my publicist called me and said, do you think you would wanna get on a plane in four days and go to Paris for a fashion show? And I was like, yeah. So I did, and they flew me there and they put me up in the George Sank and they flew Jeff there with me. And it was so magical. We went to the Kenzo show and I thought, okay, you know what, this is really fun. And I said, why don't we stay for the whole fashion week? So we did, and called Jeff and invite me to other shows. And I just kept saying yes. And now three years later, here we are. I just keep saying yes. Okay, yes. It's couture, honey. Yes. Okay.

Jeff Lewis (40:31)

So it sounds to me like it's a paid gig. And then they pay. They pay for you to go, and then they give you clothes. Like, do you get to keep the clothes?

Lisa Rinna (40:38)

You don't get to keep the clothes, but.

Jeff Lewis (40:40)

So you borrow the clothes. They put you in the clothes.

Lisa Rinna (40:42)

They put you in the clothes. You pick the clothes you want to wear. Like, it's every. Every part is different. Sometimes they pay you, sometimes they cover hair and makeup. And like, it depends. It really depends. I'm not doing it as a money making thing, though. It is very. Been very valuable.

Jeff Lewis (41:00)

Brought you a lot of exposure.

Lisa Rinna (41:01)

It has. So it's really, really valuable. But at the end of the day, I just love. So I'm having so much fun.

Now it's interesting because, you know, did she say this in her book, Annie, that Crystal Minkoff is not a great housewife?

I did. And she agrees with it.

She comes on this show a lot. We're good friends. And she is so different on this show than she was in the Housewives. But you have to understand, you know, they have a lot to protect. Right. Rob Minkoff's career. Like, I think she went in and.

Dorit Kemsley (41:56)

She'S like, put pressure on herself.

Jeff Lewis (41:59)

And, you know, you had a lot to protect, too. And it seems to me that there was a point in time where you insulated Harry Hamlin from that show.

Lisa Rinna (42:07)

Oh, from day one, you had to. Oh, day one. No, we had a special deal. I mean, that's the truth. We had a special deal that Harry Hamlin would only have to show up three times because I did not want to ruin his career.

Jeff Lewis (42:18)

Yes.

Lisa Rinna (42:18)

And, you know, at the end of the day, Andy said, okay. And otherwise, I wouldn't have done the show. Cause I was not gonna jeopardize his career. So we made a deal, and that's. They stuck to it. And I stuck to it, too.

I also thought it was interesting. She said she didn't drink on camera. She was on camera for, like, twice.

Lisa Rinna (42:36)

For five years, I did not drink. Now, the last three, I did. But for the first five years, I was stone cold sober that whole time.

Jeff Lewis (42:45)

Did Harry suggest that?

Lisa Rinna (42:46)

Oh, he said, you must not drink.

Dorit Kemsley (42:48)

Really?

Lisa Rinna (42:48)

Oh, yeah. He said, if you're gonna do this show, you cannot drink. And I was like, okay, I think that's probably good advice.

That's smart.

Now, Amsterdam happened during that time. I wasn't drunk. I wasn't straight up. Just clear as a bell.

Jeff Lewis (43:05)

Were you the first actress to ever be.

Lisa Rinna (43:08)

My first. Eileen. And I came out at the same time. The same time. Remember the first year I auditioned for Housewives and Andy. I got very far. And then Andy said, I didn't know that. Yeah. Andy said, no actors. I was like, okay, cool. Yeah, I was there. I was up there with Kyle and Vanderpump and Adrian. Yeah. I didn't know what I was doing. And I was like, all right, whatever. And then he was like, no actresses. So five years later, it was really interesting when I got the call that maybe that was something we would talk about. And I thought that could be interesting. It's good real estate. That's what I thought.

Jeff Lewis (43:43)

I was like, you know, you recognize opportunities.

Lisa Rinna (43:47)

I do. So do you. You and I have that in common. Because you've been doing this for, what, 37 years.

Jeff Lewis (43:52)

Wow.

Lisa Rinna (43:53)

It's a long time.

Jeff Lewis (43:54)

So a lot of it is. You know, you said that Jeff, your publicist, talked you into traders.

Lisa Rinna (43:58)

Yeah. Oh, the whole team did. Cause I watched it. I really liked it. But I said, I'd rather watch it than do it. I don't want to do it. I like to watch it. And then, you know, took about six months, and they, like, just kept talking about the value of it, the endorsements that you can get from it, how hot it was, yada, yada, yada. And then I was like, all right, okay, I'll do it.

Jeff Lewis (44:23)

How long were you gone?

Lisa Rinna (44:25)

It's like three weeks.

Jeff Lewis (44:26)

Okay.

Lisa Rinna (44:27)

It's pretty short, but it's long. You know what I mean? It's short, but it's long. It's super intense.

Jeff Lewis (44:32)

Long shooting days.

Lisa Rinna (44:33)

Uh huh. 18 hours.

Jeff Lewis (44:36)

I'm not very patient. Are you redoing and.

Dorit Kemsley (44:39)

Oh, you would. The walk ups, the drones, you would hate it.

Lisa Rinna (44:41)

Yes. But you know this show, they don't produce you. No one's coming in and talking to you. And that was refreshing. Cause they really let the game play out and I really liked that a lot.

Jeff Lewis (44:51)

Do they have to knock on the door so loud every single time?

Lisa Rinna (44:55)

Yeah. And it becomes a joke. You know, people like start to do. Yeah, it's part of the game. It's a game, you guys. It's a game.

Dorit Kemsley (45:03)

What I read, which I would struggle with, is that apparently you can't shower after the challenges before you go in for the round table and to dinner. Is that true?

Lisa Rinna (45:10)

Well, there's really no time, so that's terrible.

Dorit Kemsley (45:13)

I mean that.

Lisa Rinna (45:15)

Okay, here's the thing. You cannot be a diva on this show. You can't.

Dorit Kemsley (45:18)

Oh, Jeff's out.

Lisa Rinna (45:19)

You cannot. There's no diva. Like, I had to literally take my diva. I don't have much of a diva. I really don't. Little bit comes out from time to time. I had to put her in the corner because, I mean, what you go through on that show is you just have to buck up if you're gonna do the show. You buck up. You redo your hair and makeup after you've literally been sweating and gross in these challenges. These challenges are hard.

Jeff Lewis (45:43)

Yeah.

Lisa Rinna (45:44)

I mean, Dorinda and I should have had blood pressure taken and our oxygen taken after these.

Jeff Lewis (45:48)

Like it was some of those challenges hard.

Lisa Rinna (45:52)

And then you have to get cute again. Like you just did it. Cause you had like a time limit. And they were like, okay, we need you in 20 minutes. And you're like, I'm too vain. I don't wanna look gross on camera. So, like, if you have to like wash your pits with, you know, do a horse bath, I call it. Yeah, you do it. You just did it.

Jeff Lewis (46:08)

Wow. I'd have to put my diva in the corner.

Lisa Rinna (46:11)

You have to put your diva.

She'd have to go in the corner.

She has a tough time in the corner.

It was hard and I think people were really kind of impressed with that a little bit with me because they were like, wow, look at Rinna. She's just like bucking up. Yeah, I just bucked up. I never complained. I just so I think that was a really good lesson for me.

Who complained a lot? Because I would complain a lot.

Dorit Kemsley (46:33)

You would complain a lot.

Mara. I love Mara. She's so funny. She's like. The thing is, I would like someone to come shoot me in the head with a machine gun. What the fuck are we doing here? What the fuck are we doing? I love her so much. Really.
