No, in my opinion, uh, oh. In my opinion, Avi is no longer working with me now. We're still friends. I love Avi. He's like family. But no, he's no longer working with me.

Did he find another position? Was it just not working out? Like, what prompted him to leave?

Everything was working out. It's just, you know, things evolve and so, you know, he's no longer with me.

I don't know. I don't know. I've been really busy. I've been traveling a lot in the past couple of months, so we haven't really spoken.

I think. Well, you know, I'm about to just live by myself in my house, so things have just evolved and it's different now.

[Jeff Lewis]

How long did he work for you?

[Garcelle Beauvais]

You know, I met him in 20. He was the property manager of where my store was And I started renting there. I had a writing partner named Jeff Festa. And so we. I've rented a little space in the back. And then I had. And then we kept moving spaces and I had my storefront for three years before I actually put my store in there. So that's how I met him.

Wait a minute. Hold back up for a second.

Did you say Jeff Festa?

Uh huh. Do you know him?

He's one of my best friends.

So we are writing partners and we wrote a screenplay together, and it was on Almont Drive. So that's how I met Avi, and we became really good friends. So he was just the property manager there. And later, a few years later, I said, well, do you want to manage my property on Soma Way, where I lived in Bel Air? And so he did that. And then it was about two and a half years ago when Josh, my old assistant, he left. And so I said, avi, do you wanna try this? He'd never been an assistant before. So he came on, which I was so thankful that I had him. I trusted him. And, you know, we had a good time.

And he did a good job for you.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he was great.

[Jeff Lewis]

So he managed the house, the construction, all of that. The new house on the main road.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

That's right. Well, on the boulevard.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yes, yes, I like to call it the Boulevard. I love how she made it sound like it was on a freeway or Dorit.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

It's on the Boulevard. It's Lower Bel Air. I can walk to the Bel Air Hotel and Kathy's house and Jennifer Tilly's house. We're all together there.

[Sutton Strack]

I'm curious because on Avi's. I was just looking. On his thing, it still says he works. Like, does he know this? Because it says he's the manager for Sutton's Track.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

I believe he knows.

Would you hire him? So it sounds like you're not working together now, but would you work with him again, like, if you bought another house?

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Yeah, of course. I mean, I may even want him to come back and manage, like, if I ever moved or if I got another property. You know, I love Avi, and he's really good at property management. Really good. And he helped me tremendously when I did my remodel.

[Jeff Lewis]

And he really kind of took that project on.

So does he call you one day? Does he say, hey, can I speak to you for a moment. I think it's time for me to leave. Or do you say, look, the house is finished.

And some of them I've never worn. I've been collecting shoes since I lived in New York City, and I have my first pair of Manolo Blahniks I ever wore. They still look good. And I just very much related. Cause my grandmother was very much like Reba. And you just. I think they're, you know, they're not full of compliments.

But you kind of figure out the ways they show their love.

You know, when I was growing up, she would. You know, I was a ballet dancer. So I would stay at the studio and get home like at 9:30 at night. And she would have put my supper in the oven to keep it warm. And then also she would turn back my bed covers. That's how, you know. That was loving.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yes.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

And I was just with my family in Birmingham for my nephew's college graduation. And my mother was my roommate at the hotel. And she told me I looked pretty before graduation. I was like, was that a compliment? Like, I wanted to write it down and put, you know, have the date on it. So I remembered. Cause she doesn't do that often. So whatever I wore, I need to wear again.

[Jeff Lewis]

But what was interesting is that you recognize ways that she shows her love.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Yeah.

[Jeff Lewis]

Because it's not in traditional ways.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

No. And you know what's really great? I loved those two episodes. And I feel like Garcelle and Kyle and I, the three of us really bonded, and it was very natural. We were very relaxed, and we had so much fun. And we. And all three of us went really deep with one another. And then I got tense with my mother. And afterwards, we have gotten so much closer.

[Sutton Strack]

You and your mom?

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Yes. It was like a friendship renewal between the two of us. And I really enjoy my time with her now. And we Speak a lot more. And we've become close, and. Which is what I wanted, because she's turning 83 in July, and, you know, you don't know.

[Sutton Strack]

Did she watch? Do you know?

[Jeff Lewis]

Did she. Oh, I know. She'll be around for a while, I think. She's not watching.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

She's not going anywhere. I know everybody's like, how's your mom? I go, oh, she's the same. And, you know, it's. One of my friends said, oh, that's so refreshing, because sometimes you ask. And they're like, well, you know, she had a stroke or she's having hit replacement surgery. Mom. I'm like, no, she's the same.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yeah, she's Reba. That was my grandmother. Like, accident after accident, surgery after. It was like. It was like the Terminator. Like, you couldn't. Couldn't kill her.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

But so it's great. And, you know, I love watching my children with her. You know, they think she's so funny. And I'm like, yeah, that's funny, you know?

[Jeff Lewis]

Well, that's interesting, because she's your mother. Where my relationship was with my grandmother, and my grandmother, I think, was a little softer with me than she was with her daughter.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

100%, I'm sure.

[Jeff Lewis]

And I found it funny. Yeah, I found it funny.

[Sutton Strack]

Of course you did, because.

[Jeff Lewis]

Yeah, my brothers didn't find it funny.

You weren't getting it, was she?

[Jeff Lewis]

No, I was, but I thought it was funny.

Was your grandmother soft with your two brothers as well?

No.

She would. But she alienated a lot of people with, you know, the way she spoke, and she was kind of, you know, she could be cold and. Yes, yes. And. But I always thought it was funny.

But Todd and Greg didn't have the same relationship with your grandmother.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Yeah, my kids think she's hilarious, but she has a very dry sense of humor, maybe a caustic sense of humor that people don't understand. And I'm like, she's kidding. You know, I want to tell people. No, no, that was a joke. That was a joke. You know, they don't get it.

[Jeff Lewis]

I mean, I've brought this up before, but when my brother brought home his girlfriend for the first time to meet her, and she was on the swim team, and her first response was, well, you're built like a swimmer, all shoulders and no hips.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

That would be something Reba would say.

[Jeff Lewis]

And I fucking rolled, like, laughing. But, I mean, the poor girl. And then, you know, and then my brother Was obviously embarrassed.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Yes.

But I thought it was so funny.

[Garcelle Beauvais]

Oh, my God. That's something Reba would say.

That's why when I watched it, I was like, oh, my.

But My grandmother was 93 when she died. That was about six years ago. So. Yeah.

Oh, my God. Well, and I tell you what, she loves gardening and all of that. She has roses and she loves tomatoes.

I love that house, too. Also. That house has such a good energy to. Was built in 1880.

How long have you owned it?

I bought that house when my ex husband and I bought that house in 2009. I moved to Orange county in 2008.

You lived in Orange County?

I did for four years. I didn't know this where in Emerald Bay.

Yeah. And in Laguna Beach.

And so about a year afterwards, I had three children, and we would go to Augusta. There a was. It was just too. I needed a house. And so we bought that house with.

The guest house in the back. Did your mom live in the.

That was like a gut renovation. My mom's house was. And so. And she's got a big basement down there. It's two bedrooms upstairs. But right now, I think my next project really is going to be. I need to put a bedroom downstairs for her with a bath. Full bath.

Oh, so she doesn't look up and down the stairs.

Yeah. Well, Avi coming.

I'm sorry for that. You know, I would never want to hurt Garcelle intentionally so I'm sorry that she feels that way. And I'm sorry, you know, that it went down like that. I hope that I can rectify things later. Sometimes I think when you're really close with someone and you get hurt in the relationship, sometimes you need some time away to heal. And I'm hoping that we can rectify and fix everything.

Do you think that there's a part of you that really wants to be liked by the whole cast? And as a result, you may overlook maybe the people that are really closest to you and most loyal, like Garcelle, because I feel like she would have taken a bullet for you. Like, I found her to be very, incredibly loyal to you.

But, you know, I also met with Garcelle's family and.
