There's enough power in every sick room and in every hospital room to raise up that sick one that may be describing you. You may be in a sick room, you may be in a hospital room. And I want to remind you, power is present. That power is there to do a work, believe in what's not. Try to get something, but notice that he's already made it yours. It's present right where you're at. Say, I receive that power. I receive that power. I receive it right now. I receive it right now. From the top of my head. From the top of my head. The soles of my feet. The soles of my feet. Welcome. We're so glad to have you today with us for Jesus the healer. And we are so enjoying that we are still in this series called In Christ I Can. And we're just blessed by, by how many people have been responding to this series and they've been saying the Word being taught is changing their lives. And thank God for the Word. I mean, if it weren't for the Word, we would not even know how to think right. And if it weren't for the Word, we wouldn't know what all God has provided for us. The way I say it is this, that everything God dreamed for our life, everything he planned for our life, he put into Christ. And then he put Christ in us and us in Christ. And if I could say it this way, Christ is the truth treasure box for us to draw out of. And when we do that, we. We begin coming into a higher flow than we have ever experienced before. Can I tell you this? The truth of who we are in Christ is the absolute foundation of our redemption. When we find out who we are in Christ and we start putting a demand to draw on who he is to us, then it brings us into the highest order of faith. We don't struggle with fai, all he has made ours and all that belongs to us in Christ. And we're just so grateful that God is helping us in these series to articulate and teach some of these things. One of the things we were reading on a previous episode, and I'll go back to this and then we'll start from there and go further. Colossians, chapter 2, verse 6. This is the living Bible translation. And this has been one of our golden scriptural passages that we've been going back to. But I want you to see this in verse 6, Colossians 2. 6. Paul said, and now, just as you trusted Christ to save you. Trust him too, for each day's problems. Live in vital union with Him. Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from Him. Look at this. See that you go on growing in the Lord. And could I say this? See that you go on growing in the knowledge of who you are in the Lord and who he is in you. This is really. Paul is talking about these in Christ truths. We could say it this way, that you go on growing on who you are in Christ and who he is in you. It's so important that we realize that this is really so rich that all through eternity we're going to continue to see all that he is to us and in us. But again, Paul says, see that you go on growing in the Lord. Look at this and become strong. Become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Look at this. Become strong and vigorous in the truth. Doesn't that sound a little bit like Ephesians chapter 6 in verse 10, where it says, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Look at this phrase, be strong. Look at this in the Lord. Not in your own ability, not in your own. Not in your own efforts to put you past certain things, to put you over. But be strong in the Lord. In other words, be strong in depending on Him. It's him that's going to put us over. Remember what Jesus said. He said, my Father in Me, he does the works. Jesus was not out trying to be strong through miracles and signs and wonders. He was strongly depending on the Father in Him who was doing the works. So when it says be strong in the Lord, let's break it down a little bit. We could see in this phrase two things. Paul says, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. So we could say, be strong in the Lord and be strong in the power of his might. Let's look at those two things. Well, the Lord and the Word are one. Jesus is the Word made flesh. So when we say be strong in the Lord, can't we also say, be strong in the Word? How are you strong in the Word? You're full of the Word. When you're full of something, then there's not room for anything less than the Word. If we're full of the Word, then that keeps the wrong thing from trying to fill us up. If we're less than full, any old thing can fill our tank. But if we're full of the Word, there's not room for the wrong flow to come in. So to be Strong in the Lord. We could accurately say this means to be full of the Word. And then it says, and in the power of his might. Be strong in the power of his might. What is the power of his might? It's the Holy Ghost. So really, Paul is saying in this phrase, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Be full of the Word and be full of the Holy Ghost. When we are full of the Word and full of the Spirit, what happens? It puts us in a flow that will not be robbed from. Now, can I say this? I mean, I pastored for 25 years. I've been on the road. I've been in the ministry, my goodness, over 40 years now. I don't know how that time passed so quick, but it did. And through all those 40 years of ministry, traveling with my husband and ministering alongside him, and traveling now, ministering, sometimes you run into people whose desire seems to be weak for their own victory. How? That's the only way I know to say it's. Well, let me quote Mark 11:24. You know this passage. What things so ever. Look at this. You desire when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. Look at this. What things soever you desire. What things soever you desire. So what's this verse talking to us about? It's telling us how to get our desires met. Some people think that they have faith problems when they really have desire problems. They don't have a strong desire for something. Know this, that the devil desires your defeat. He desires your failure. Your desire to experience victory has to be stronger than the devil's desire to abort your victory. And so many times people become. They get in a lower flow for one reason. They don't have much of a desire to overcome some things that they're facing. How do we increase our desires? Ephesians 6:10 tells us, Be strong in the Lord, be full of the Word. The more full we are of the Word, the more the desires of the Word will find its place in us. And we won't be passive. We won't be apathetic toward what belongs to us. Some people, Let me say it this way. Some people are in such a weakened state when it comes to the Word. They don't really want to exercise their authority over opposition. And I've been in that. I've been in the place to where you can, you know, if you get tired and worn down, you just don't want to deal with certain issues that you may face. One of the things there were Four kids in the family. I have two older brothers and one older sister. And one of the things I would say, my mother was a smart mom. She was. The kids didn't get much past her. And if there was one outstanding feature in my mother, now three of us turned out to be pastors. My sister became a schoolteacher and active in her local church. But the four of us were all saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. And it wasn't because the way we were raised in the sense of the Word, we weren't taught the Word. Now we went to church all the time. Church was a feature of our life, just like going to school was a feature of our life. But we didn't go to a church that taught us the Word. And so we weren't even saved when we were growing up. We didn't know you needed to be saved. The way we processed a walk with God was, I believe God exists. That makes me a Christian. Well, we all believed God existed in our family, everybody believed God existed, but we weren't saved and we didn't know we weren't saved. But later as we grew, my brothers and sister, we all went to church when we moved away from home because we had the habit of local church attendance, which is so safe for your life. God was able to easily lead us to a church that taught us about salvation. But my mother, she raised us according to the principles of the Word. Even though we didn't have Bible study times in our home, we didn't. My mother, we never saw my mother read a Bible. We were governed by the truths of the Word so much. We didn't have family prayer times. But what my mother did, My mother had a standard of the Word because there were preachers all in her ancestry. There were preachers on my dad's side as well. And so there were these. Our standard of life found its root in the Word and so my mother carried that over. But the most outstanding feature about my mother's parenting skill was this consistency. My mother was never too tired to deal with our flesh, if I could, that is so key to parenting is my mother never said, I'm too tired to deal with those kids today. My mother would get weary physically. I'm talking about, she worked when I was about, oh my goodness, about eight years old, she went and worked a full time job. But Until I was 8, my two older brothers were completely raised. My sister was in junior high. I was in grade school when my mother had her first job outside of the home because she, she wanted to be at Home as much as she could to be with the children. But my mother, although her schedule was full, she would never let herself get too tired to be the parent she ought to be. I never saw her say, when we get home, because we'd be out doing something, you know, we'd be all be out somewhere. And if one of us got in trouble, my mother said, when I get home, I'll handle you. My. We never. She never let that slip. As soon as we walked in the door, she handled us. There was no such thing as hoping she would forget. There was no such thing. She never forgot. Her consistency was noble. It was heroic. And I want you to know her desire that we be parented right was greater than her weariness of flesh. If she. Because, listen, no doubt she would have been tired. You know, she's worked all day, she's worked outside the home, she's worked in the home. Her responsibilities were many, but she was never too tired for her desire to weaken in being the kind of parent she should be. Well, I dare to say that a lot of times, sometimes the devil gets upper hand simply because we're too weakened to, if I could say this, enforce our victory. And sometimes we find ourselves putting up with things we should not put up with. We have. Sometimes people fall into this place of not wanting to resist because they're weary, they're tired, they don't have even the physical or the spiritual strength about them. Well, if a parent gets too tired to raise their children rightly, they'll pay for that later. It will show up later. Well, if we don't resist the devil today, that will show up today and later. And so we want to make sure we are strong in our desire, not weak in the desire for our own victory. We want to be strong in the desire to experience all Christ made ours. So here. Mark 11:24. What things soever you desire when you pray, so we see this. That desire is going to guide how we pray and how we believe. If we don't have much of a desire for something, we don't have much of a hold in our faith. But if our desire is great, the hold in our faith will be encouraged. It'll be strengthened. Now, how do we say? Strengthened. So that we want to walk in the complete victory that belongs to us. Be strong in the Lord. Be full of the Word to fill up with the Word. Strengthens the inner man so that when opposition comes, we don't. Even if our bodies, our bodies are tired, our spirit man is strong. And we don't lay down to opposition and become apathetic or become permissive towards something that is opposing us. Listen, I put up with stuff I shouldn't have put up with. I would dare to say that most believers have it. So some point in time, we put up with things. And that's because we're not as full of the word as we should be. And when we're not as full of the word as we should be, we're not strengthened as we should be. And when we're strengthened, we don't put up with things. We take. We stand up and we take our place. Now, if someone were physically tired, maybe they've worked all week long, they're physically tired, and a family member says, hey, how about we go out and we do this? And they go, I just. I just don't want to go. Why? Because I'm tired. I don't even want to do that. Well, if our spirit gets weakened to such a place that when the devil opposes and we don't even want to resist, that's dangerous for us. So the body may be tired, but we cannot let the spirit become weak, because we've got to keep that spirit fed so that it's strengthened to want to employ the Word, want to take our stand on the Word, want to resist the devil. And too many times we have put up with what we should not have put up with, because we have just not been as strengthened as we should have in our spirit. And we lay down to things instead of taking our place in who we are, in Christ. So if we become complacent, circumstances and opposition can get an upper hand. But how do we keep from becoming complacent? How do we. Every time. Every time. Just like my mother did. I mean, can I tell you this? There was four kids in the family. My oldest brother and me. I was the youngest. The two of us were inclined to music. My second brother and my older sister were inclined to sports. Well, my mother had such a. My mother was. She was the sports fan in our. In our house. She loved football, she loved basketball. She loved baseball. She loved it all. And she enjoyed when my brother and my sister played sports. But she was a huge fan of music also. She decided she was going to get a piano player out of one of the four kids. Well, I was the fourth. I was her last chance. So I was the one that she really decided, you're going to play the piano. And I had to bend toward music anyway. So that was something that. Every time I walked in from school, my mother met me at the door. I'm telling you from the. I started taking piano when I was about in fifth grade, and every day my mother met me at the door and said, get on the piano for an hour. I went to the piano every day. I didn't get my homework done, I didn't make a phone call. I didn't hang out with friends. She said, get on that piano. Her desire for me to excel was stronger than my desire to want to go do something else because she met me at the door. We have to be so full of the word that when opposition knocks, it is a strong spirit that meets that opposition at the door and says, you're not coming in here. My mother was so consistent. She didn't just say, you know what? I've told you to get on the piano and practice every day. I expect you to do it here on out. No, every day. Her discipline, discipline became my discipline. She met me at the door and said, you're getting on the piano. And I even learned a little bit of something that when we'd have to get up and do dishes, I found out if I go to the piano and start practicing, she never pulled me off the piano. So I'd leave my sister to do the dishes. Yes, you're welcome. So my sister, I don't know what she's watching, but that's what I did. And she knew it. She said, mom, she's just practicing. So she doesn't have new dishes. That's right. Because I found the place my mother wanted me to be most. And so I would get there to get out of the place I didn't want to be, which was in the kitchen. But anyway, because my mother's desire was so great, she made sure I was doing what I should do every day. Well, I want you to know, if we'll get so full of the word, that word in us will make sure we're not putting up with symptoms, we're not putting up with lack. We're not putting up with things in our family, things in our body, things in our businesses, things that are less than God's best. And when we are strengthened with might in our inner man by being full of the word, what will happen is every time opposition shows up, we're more than a ready master over that. If we find ourself becoming complacent, if we find ourselves laying down to things, not pushing back against resisting the devil, it's because we're not as full of the word as we should be. And that is so fixable. Just fill up with the Word, feed on the word, listen to good faith sermons, listen to broadcasts that teach you the Word. Because there are so many avenues and outlets of taking the Word in. But living full is our safe place. Because as we're full of the Word, then complacency is not something that a strong spirit will put up with. And if we are just laying down to things, we have pinpointed our problem, fill up with the Word. That's what's lacking. And many times people think, well, I just need more faith. I'm just, you know, well, where does faith come from? It comes from hearing the Word. So when we hear the Word Word and we take that Word in, our spirit gets strengthened. But now that it's full, it's easy for a full of spirit that's full of the Word to overflow and to start releasing the faith that came in when we heard the word. Amen. So being less than full, our spirit is in a weakened condition. And when our spirits are in a weakened condition, there are just things we don't want to do and what happens? We don't even want to stand up and resist that opposition. We don't even want to stand up and resist that circumstance. And we permit them to just come and camp with us. And so if you say, you know what, Pastor Nancy, I can look at my life and say, there's some things that moved into my life I shouldn't have let move in. There are some things that I have put up with that I shouldn't have put up with, whether spiritually. What about just being complacent in spiritual habits, Feeding on the Word, our prayer life, or developing spiritually, growing up spiritually? Or what about mentally? We've not guarded our thought life as we should. We've let our emotions take over. Well, that's due to a weakened condition spiritually. What about our body? We're letting our bodies get out of place. Meaning, you know, we're put up with symptoms. We're put up with, you know, nagging things, harassing things, or what about thoughts that harass the mind? And we've just kind of put up with it. Why did we do that? Not being strengthened as we ought? Well, how do we gain strength feeding on the Word of God? When we get full of the Word, we stop putting up with what we used to put up with, and we're fortified to resist now. The Word tells us, resist the devil and he'll flee from you. Isn't that right? The Word tells us that. But actually, there's a phrase that's before that, submit yourselves to God. Then resist the devil. Then he'll flee from you. Now, to submit to God. What does it mean to submit to God? Well, number one, listen to him. Number two, obey Him. But what about this? Submit to giving the Word its proper place in our life. Putting the Word first. When we're submitting to God, we're submitting to His Word. God and His Word are one. So if we will fill up with the Word, if we'll put the Word first, we're putting God first. And it's easier to obey God when we're full of the Word. It's easier to disobey God when we're. When our spirits are weakened. So our safe place is be full of the Word. And not only that, be full of the Spirit. You say, well, how do I get full of the Spirit? Well, I know this. In Acts chapter two, it says they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts chapter two. Well, when the Holy Spirit first. When he was. When he made his move from heaven to earth and began to indwell the earth. That was on the day of Pentecost. What happened? He came upon those disciples. He. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost. Look at this. And began to speak with other tongues. So that is giving us the prescription of how to be full of the Spirit, speak in other tongues. If we will take time every day to speak in other tongues, what will happen? We'll fill up with the Spirit. So to be full of the Word and to be full of the Spirit. Now we're in place to where anything that comes against us will be fortified and strengthened to stand against it instead of putting up with it. Instead of being too tired or not really caring if something is getting out of place in our life. Listen, as I was giving illustration about my mother, she cared if her kids got out of place in her life. Because my mother made this statement to us when we were very little. She says, life is too short for me to have four kids I can't live with. I'm not going to let kids ruin my life. And so what that meant is she meant that she was going to have to do something to make sure that we walked the straight and the narrow. And she was never too tired to do that. Because when she did, she put proper things in place in us when we were young. As we grew older, she didn't have to do all the work because she did it when we were young. I mean, in all honesty, I don't really. I only remember one time of getting in trouble where I was spanked by my mom after I was six years old, because by the time I was, well, really probably about 5, because she had so been disciplined in putting things in place that as we grew older, we just stayed in line with what we were trained in. Well, it's the same thing. If you'll stay full of the Word, it will govern your life in such a way and direct your life in such a way that it's not a struggle to stay full of the Word. It's not a struggle to stay on top of situations. But if we have bad habits, bad spiritual habits, bad mental habits, bad physical habits to where the body is running our life instead of our spirit, that's easily fixable. Fill up with the Word, Fill up with the Holy Ghost. And then you're not trying to do it by self will, by self effort. The Word is doing the work. Because when you fill up with the Word, it so fortifies you and strengthens you that you are able to stand fast, that you're able to resist, steadfastly immovable in the face of opposition. As I said many times, people think, well, I just have weak faith. Well, it's not a faith issue, it's a word issue. Fill up with the Word and you're filling up with faith. Amen. And so let's not put up with what we've been putting up with in our life because we can all take an. We can all evaluate our lives and say, wait a minute. Does my spiritual life look like it did two years ago or last year? Or have I advanced? Have I grown? Wait a bit. Wait a minute. Am I still having the same physical problems I had last year? Well, we can advance past that. Or what about, this is my. My financial life, my business life? What about my marriage? Is it in the exact same place, same struggles, same difficulties, or has it gotten better? Well, I tell you what, when we're filling up with the Word, filling up with the Spirit, and being a doer of that word, that things will not stay as they are. And not only this, the devil will not be able to work against our lives what he has in the past. So we're taking our place in Christ. Amen. Well, we want you to join us next time. And until next time, remember this. Jesus is the healer. God bless you.

Episode: 902 | In Christ I Can, Part 142
Air Date: December 16, 2025
Host/Teacher: Nancy Dufresne
Theme: Discovering the Power of Being "In Christ," Developing Spiritual Strength, and Refusing to Tolerate Less Than God’s Best
In this episode, Nancy Dufresne continues her long-running teaching series, "In Christ I Can." The focus is on understanding and living in the vital union with Christ, emphasizing the absolute necessity of being full of the Word and the Holy Spirit in order to walk in victory, resist opposition, and claim everything God has provided for believers. Nancy uses scriptural insights, practical teaching on spiritual habits, and heartfelt personal stories to underscore the power of spiritual consistency, desire, and discipline.
Nancy reflects on her mother’s parenting:
Piano Practice Story:
Identity and Inheritance:
“The truth of who we are in Christ is the absolute foundation of our redemption.” (02:21)
Spiritual Fullness:
“If we’re full of the Word, then that keeps the wrong thing from trying to fill us up.” (08:40)
Faith vs. Desire:
“Your desire to experience victory has to be stronger than the devil’s desire to abort your victory.” (14:24)
Fight Spiritual Complacency:
“I dare to say that a lot of times, sometimes the devil gets upper hand simply because we’re too weakened to, if I could say this, enforce our victory.” (20:56)
On Consistency:
“My mother was never too tired to deal with our flesh...Her consistency was noble. It was heroic.” (19:12)
Practical Spirituality:
“But living full is our safe place. Because as we’re full of the Word, then complacency is not something that a strong spirit will put up with.” (30:07)
Nancy Dufresne’s central message is that being “in Christ” is not just a doctrine, but a practical key to victorious living. The pathway to victory lies in being relentlessly full of the Word and of the Spirit, refusing to tolerate spiritual complacency, and nourishing a strong desire to receive all that God provides. Consistency, discipline, and desire are not only the marks of good parenting, but of a thriving spiritual life. Nancy urges listeners to stop "putting up with" what is beneath God’s promises and instead fill themselves daily with the Word and the Spirit—because this is the safe—and victorious—place in Christ.
