‘not hungry anymore’

seems as though everyone’s inside

chilling skin and protecting themselves

barriers come in cloth now

as if words did not infect enough

i sunburn my eyes

so i can’t see what i’m thinking

my verse fuels visions and

in this heat paragraphs and booze

do not dispel reality so easily

dinner seems a welcome thought to fill me

so too, once, the thought of you and i

you made it clear you couldn’t stomach that

and force-fed i had no choice but digest.

these days i am hardened but liquid

spilling quietly from the seams

and i can’t smell what the neighbors are cooking

or tell you you’ve ripped out my guts

when i was quite content with the way

you stole my heart.
