Matt and I auditioned around the same time, and then it was a really crazy time in the friendship because I got it and he didn't.
Bowen Yang

Trisha Paytas
I know.
Bowen Yang

Trisha Paytas

Bowen Yang
Wait, really? Is this.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Wait. I'm kind of gagged.
Trisha Paytas
There's one dance, there's one video of me and Ari doing. Trying to do a TikTok dance that. It's just very miserable.
Bowen Yang
Is it out there? I'm kind of out.
Trisha Paytas
This is the gag. Okay. This is breaking news.
Bowen Yang
Love it.

This is a Just Trish exclusive.
Bowen Yang
Hello and welcome back to the Just Trish podcast, where today is really just Trish. I'm just Trish by myself. No. Joining me shortly, it'll be the wonderful Bowen Yang. It's his one day off. We did SNL till 1am last night. Then there was an after party till I stayed till 5am Maybe people stayed later. Literally so booked and busy. And he is still making time to come to the podcast today to do a whole recap of snl, my SNL debut. Talk about wicked. Talk about so many things. I instantly became besties with Pony. I love him so much. But before we get into that, thank you to the sponsors of today's video Aura frames, draftkings, Casino and Manscaped. I just did some excellent ad reads. Go ahead and skip 20 minutes, 40 minutes in if you guys really want to hear those ad reads because they're pretty amazing. I also we have the Christmas hoodies in the Trish Live hoodies are now being sold online@justtrish.com just because it's like hard to physically bring all of them to the show in Thousand Oaks. So if you want to wear your hoodie to the Thousand Oaks show, you can order now. My mom and sister are getting them out very quick. They ship the same day, if not the next day. So you can go to jesttrish.com, we also have restock of our just everyday hoodies. We love them. I'm wearing the Trishmas hoodie now. And thank you guys by the way, for all the love on Trishmas. Tonight I will be at the Beacon Theater. Sold out. So I don't know if you can get tickets anymore, but I'm sure It'll be on TikTok and I'm so excited. I am in New York, if you guys couldn't tell. I'm currently at the Headgum podcast studios in New York. Shout out Headgum. It was a Sunday. I found out I was coming to New York on no Thursday. Scrambled. Scrambled. Shout out. CAA for hooking this up too. I was like, I can't find. No podcast. Studios were responding to me. And we got Headgum and it's great and it's cute and this feels like such a podcast set. So thank you so much for hosting us here. They have one in LA too. They were saying. So we love. Heck, I love it. I love. I didn't. I had no idea they made studios like this where you can just come. Like literally anyone can come record a podcast. It's pretty cool. I don't know if anyone can come, but maybe they can. It sounds cool. I don't know. It's just cool that it's set up and ready. We have the three cameras, we have everything. It's very exciting. And it does feel weird to not have a Moses and Oscar here today, especially with such a big and busy week and exciting week. There was just no way of me going home in between shows. The kids were originally supposed to come out with us too, and I was gonna fly out with them, but I think all in all, they're just gonna stay back for this week, do my show at the Beacon, have so much fun, and then head home to get ready for the Thousand Oaks show. So Christmas Live has been absolutely crazy. I. We had our first show in San Diego on December 5th at the San Diego Civic Theater. And that show, you know, we had about 75 to 80% capacity, like the day before the show happens today at the show and like, oh, you sold out. And I was like, there's no way. There's no way. Sold out show. You guys sold it out the day of. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Honestly, it was like, so surreal. It was the highlight of my whole year. It felt so crazy. Cause once again, I talked about this on stage too, but, like, doing a show where it's just me and my Christmas songs, which aren't like super popular, but people were so into it. And also, you know, I'm not part of like, this like, bigger friend group at the moment. Right when I was on tour before, I always had like someone that was in a big friend group. Whereas, like, you would think the shows would like, sell out really big and it just didn't happen. This is my most success and biggest selling shows and biggest Capacity shows. And it's really just me and I'm so thankful and I was so emotional and everybody there just, I don't know, the energy was insane. And I cannot wait for the show tonight in New York, Beacon Theater. Everyone keeps telling me, like, that's such a big deal. It's like sold out, you know, like. And I don't know if I fully grasp it and I don't know if I want to necessarily fully grasp it. It's like doing Saturday Night Live last night, which again, we'll talk about when like, Bowen gets here. But I don't know if I can fully grasp it because it' like I can't fathom it around my head. But I know I'm having a lot of fun doing these shows and doing that and just doing all these opportunities. And tonight's show actually has a big announcement in it as well. So there'll be another big announcement tonight which will either come out tonight or in the morning. And I can't wait to talk about it on the next Hot Topic. So the next Hot Topics will be in la. This is not really a hot topic. This will be more of an interview today. But I Next week we'll do Hot Topics. They'll resume. We'll have a lot to catch up on and recap and talk about. But yeah, we're here, we're here in New York now and it's been just such a wild ride and I'm so thankful I was. We did the San Diego show. The day of the San Diego show, I get the DM from BO and that says he wrote a SNL sketch. Like wrote me into an SNL sketch, which was like crazy. I like didn't believe it. And then I was like, oh my God, do I book a flight? Because I am in la. And even if I left at the first flight, which I did, was 7am that means getting here at 3:30pm There was rehearsals at 5pm and there was so much traffic right now in the city, especially near 30 Rock. There's the big Rockefeller tree. It's closed off. Like streets are closed off. Like there's. I like tick tock some of it. I'm like running through the streets like it's chaos. It's chaos in the city. I just. It's wild. I love New York. I've been feeling a calling to it and now it's like there's three big things happening in New York. SNL was a surprise. It was last minute. I was already supposed to be here for Beacon and Then the third will be announced tonight or tomorrow. And it's just. It is magical. It's wonderful. And I have been having the absolute time of my life. But I got the call and so I had to literally go straight from San Diego. I didn't have any clothes for New York. I still don't have any clothes. I have this one hoodie, this pink hoodie. And then I think I bought maybe 10 sweatshirts from like, the NBC shop. I have all this SNL hoodies now because I just needed some clean clothes. But I am getting stuff overnighted thanks to my mom and Moses. So I'll have my meet and greet dress. The dress I ended up wearing at SNL is a version of my meet and greet dress. I have four of these dresses made. So the gold one I wore in San Diego for the meet and greet. And then I have the green one planned for New York. And I have the red one planned for Thousand Oaks. And the pink one was planned for my Hot Topics after all the shows. And it was actually designed after Ariana Grande's opening monologue on snl. And I again, had no idea I was gonna be on snl. And I just loved the dress so much. Obviously, the designer does not make it at my size. So I just had something similar made just for the podcast. Cause I loved it. I thought she looked so cute in it. And then when I got caught, called within like 48 hours to be on Saturday Night Live. I had my sister, thank God she was in la, overnight that dress. And then a designer here in New York, Garo Sparrow, who did my wicked premiere dress, made the closing number in the pink sequins. And those are all the outfits I have. So I had a. I found a stylist here that shopped for skims, underwear and leggings for me. So I had some clean clothes. But it's been. It's been quite the adventure. I love New York so much. It's such different energy. So much high energy. I waited in line at Liberty bagels for 90 minutes. Cause I thought it would be the experience. This morning I postmated. It took 20 minutes. It was the best thing ever. For some reason. I waited in line for like an hour and a half. Cause I thought it'd be a great experience. It was not a great experience. The bagels are good. I reordered them again today. So I'm looking for any other recommendations. I saw makeup. Ariel, eat up. Lena's. I don't know. I need some good Italian food recommendations, but I'm Only here. I leave tomorrow, so I'm only here for a short time. But New York, you have been great, and you will know very soon that I will be back. But everything has been so surreal and so wonderful, and I am so sad. This is the longest I've been away from my kids, so I'm sad that I can't get to, like, see them at night and, you know, see Moses. And, you know, he was. I was sad he couldn't be with me at snl, but it was. He was. As soon as we got the call, there was not even a question because we were. Like. I said, we were all in San Diego. Thank God my mom was with us, too. We were all in San Diego, and I was like, do I leave in the morning? Like, it was so. It seemed so chaotic because we had. We had a plan in motion and everything like that. But, like, it wasn't even a question for him. For me, I was more questioning. I was like, okay, well, I have responsibilities, and I have my kids, and I need to make sure that they get home safely. And again, thank God for my mom and Moses. And actually, my dad was down there, too. So everyone kind of, like, rallied together to get them home safely. And then we kind of debated on if they were going to fly out. I think the day the. That Saturday, Malibu had a little bit of a stomach bug. And most of you. Anything to me the day of Saturday Night Live. He told me this morning. He's like, yeah, she kind of lost my bug. I don't know if it's, like, if we should come out. We were already kind of worried, you know, they haven't traveled on a plane. I was actually really sad as well that I was gonna miss their first flight because it just looks so special. And I see little kids all the time. They get to board early, get to go up in, like, the cockpit and stuff like that with the pilot. And I was really, really bummed I was gonna miss their first flight. So we were able to get credit. Can I tell you something? A little rant about airlines, kind of. I guess it's not a scam. I guess it's not a scam because they do ask if you would like to purchase, like, insurance on your trip. And I never do because I was like, we're going to the show. Like, there's not even a question. But I booked. We had. We booked all these tickets. I booked, like, a really fancy hotel because I wanted to make this, like, a great vacation. And the airlines, they just. They're just so Difficult, like, you can't change. Like, I was gonna change my seat under the name of my makeup artist because she was going to help them all come out, but they won't let you change the name. You know, I guess I get it. For, like, security reasons, the flight was completely booked. But silver lining is it's 24 hours to their flight. I was able to cancel and get credit. So, like I said, I have a feeling we'll be back in New York very soon, all of us as a family. And I'm excited that I'll get to be there for their first flight. And also just help, because obviously we have to hold baby Elvis, who's an infant. And then Malibu will be a first time flying. Moses sent me a video when they got home from San Diego, and it was like Malibu looking up at the sky and was like, mommy, airplane. I want to go on airplane and see Mommy. And it was so. It was. It was just like the sweetest thing in the whole world. And she. Even when they got, like, harsh, like, where's Mommy? I was like, oh, making sure Mommy doesn't get left behind. It just, like, broke my heart. But it was, like I said, it was Saturday life. I couldn't say no, wouldn't say no, would do it all again and fly back out. It was really great. And Moses, of course, was, like, such a big supporter. And we were texting throughout the whole day. He was watching At Home with Malibu. They were eating frozen pizza, watching. And it was so surreal because we do watch Saturday Night Live. We always watch it on Sunday. We always watch it the next day because we go to bed so early. How I stayed up till 1am was crazy. The adrenaline just, like, kicked in and it was wild. But we always watch it on a Sunday night before Hot Topics. I just. I love it. We've been talking about it because. No, I've been talking about the podcast for so long. So it was just such a surreal moment. And then, like, you're in your show and, you know, I haven't. I've slept two hours today, truly. I got in at five, and then I had to. I slept first till about 8:00, so I guess three hours. And then I had glam at 9. Cause the wonderful New York glam team, they were booked and busy, so they're like, we can get there kind of early. And I was like, all right, let's do it. So, yeah, I will get to rest before the show. I have a full day in between. Like, by the time you see this, will Be the show performance, but it's the biggest one. New York, you sold it out in 25 minutes. So I can't even imagine. We have a lot of guests on the list and a lot of new guests coming, and I know it's going to be absolutely chaotic, so I'll have a good 24 hours to rest in between, and I will be good. And I get pumped for my own shows. I love it. And just the overall energy and vibes are wonderful. I guess the moral of this is, you know, get that insurance on those airline tickets. That's kind of a scam, too, because you pay like 100 bucks and then you might not cancel. But I don't know. At least they gave me credits. We have up into six months on American Airlines trying the best. All right, you guys. Well, coming up, we have Mr. SNL himself. The reason I was on it, just my absolute crush. I just love him in every single way. Just the it boy, the star in my eyes. The minute I saw him, I was like, oh, we connected instantly. I cannot wait for him to come and join the conversation and just. You'll see how wonderful he is, how deep he is, how beautiful he is. Coming up next, we have guest friend of the podcast and now my new bestie, Bowen. Yeh, Bowen's here.
Trisha Paytas
Long time no see. We literally just saw each other, what, like four hours ago, literally at the after party at snl.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
You were the belle of the ball.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my gosh.
Trisha Paytas
Do you feel that way?
Bowen Yang
You know what? I felt very loved. That was the most hype I've ever gotten in my entire life. It was very odd and very surreal.
Trisha Paytas
Ever. Well, I guess the most. It's spatially, it's like the most people in one room who are there to, like, celebrate something else, which is the occasion is like, oh, it's the SNL after party. We just did a show, but then, like, I think people were just gagged that you were there. Like, everybody from, like, the guests who came in, the audience who, like, ended up at the party to, like, the staff at the show, it's crazy. They were just like. So I had people thank me. They were like, thank you for bringing Trish. And I was like, first of all, my honor of my life. And also was Asha Ward's idea because we'd written the sketch called Spotify Wrapped, and then there was a podcast beat in there. And then after it got picked, we were like, wait, this is the perfect opportunity to bring Trish in, because you've been talking about it on the show and, like, we listen.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God, that's so crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Do you feel like you're manifesting, like, all the goodness in your life?
Bowen Yang
Yes. I was, like, so negative and pessimistic. Like, the majority of my life. Like, I always was, like, I'm a loser. I suck. I have no talent. I'm fat Muggle. Like, all this stuff. And, like, the minute I started, like, changing and being like, I could do that, I could do this and start talking and, like, speaking positively about myself and other things, it really did, like, change my whole life. Like, it is crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Well, because, like, if we find ourselves in, like, this feedback loop or, like, you know, where we say something, like, to get a reaction out of some people and that gets rewarded in some capacity, then, like, we're only. Our minds are not developed enough as human beings to, like, not keep doing that. And so we just keep doing that. And then you get in this holding pattern, and then all it takes is just one thing to, like, get you out of this. Sorry, we're getting so deep already.
Bowen Yang
I love that about you, though. I feel like I was so nervous when we first met. Like, I didn't want to, like, ruin anything. Anything up. I didn't want to be in anyone's space or anyone's way because, like, it's such an intense show. And I'm like, okay, I'm literally here for like, a three second. Like, Cammie, I don't want to be in this in the way. So I was, like, very much, like, trying not to be in your space or be over much. But the minute we started talking about, like, meditation, and I was like. I was like, wait, what? And you said you watched, like, Soul Boom, like, all this crazy stuff. And I was like, wait, I wouldn't think that about you because you're just, like, so funny and, like, goofy and, like, you never talk about, like, being, like, being with your thoughts.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I guess I don't. You're right.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I'd never get that from you. Really. Like, lost cultures as we watch, and it's like, you're just a fun, silly, goofy time.
Trisha Paytas
No, I like some. I feel like the sad sack on the show. Like, Matt is the light and he's the. He's the truth, the way the light. And I'm like, yeah, anyway, I'm tired. And, like, my whole story is that I'm just tired, which is so boring. Like, saying you're tired is the least interesting thing you can contribute to a conversation, no matter what the reason is. Like, everyone has A reason to be tired. Life is hard. But, like, I've realized that anytime I bring up the fact that I'm tired, everyone kind of shuts down. Then I shut down.
Bowen Yang
It's like, it's this whole thing, I think that's a very interesting. Especially with your schedule. We've talked about it so many times, like, this week. Cause I'm so. I don't think. And maybe you're, like, tired of talking about this, but I feel like people don't understand the schedule of snl, the pressure of it. I was feeling pressure, and I'm like, in there for three seconds, I was just like, I can't imagine being a writer and feeling, like, pressured. Is everything okay?
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Bowen Yang
Okay.
Trisha Paytas
I knocked over a tissue box.
Bowen Yang
No, but even today, you being here, like, I should just preface also by saying I was like, I wanted you on the podcast. I visualized it, but I was never gonna ask because once again, so busy. And I like, you're one day off. I'm not gonna be like, come to the podcast. But you did ask, like, are you doing a podcast while you're here? I'm like, yeah. Would you like to come?
Trisha Paytas
It was such a quick. Yes.
Bowen Yang
That was crazy. And the fact that you're here, I really appreciate it. Like, beyond words, like, one, obviously DMing me to get me. We should kind of say that, too. Yes. Okay. So I get a dm. We followed each other.
Trisha Paytas
We followed each other for a while, and then Harry Daniel connected us, and that was so kisminy to me. Cause I love him. I love you.
Bowen Yang
I love Harry.
Trisha Paytas
And he set us up. He linked us up on DMs, and then whatever. I was just like, oh, my God, Trish. Like, I love you. I have followed you since the beginning, which for me was you and Gigi Gore just doing videos where you guys were being so funny. You guys were literally doing sketches.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, that was like 2012. That's, like 15 years ago.
Trisha Paytas
But it's like, can I say of that ilk? I was like, oh, but the. The difference with Trish, personally, and I don't know the full landscape, but I'm like, but Trish is, like, hilarious.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
Just like a comedic genius.
Bowen Yang
Crazy. Never heard that. I really have not heard that.
Trisha Paytas
Are you serious?
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I feel like people are like, huh? Trish is funny, but I can't intentionally be. Could never do. Did you do standup?
Trisha Paytas
I never did stand up. I tried. I was bad at it. I couldn't put in the hours of open mics and all that.
Bowen Yang
Stuff that's surprising. Cause I feel like everyone on SNL I thought was stand up if I started.
Trisha Paytas
Well, no, the, the nice thing about this current time of SNL is everyone's from a different background. You've got TikTok comedians or you've got like sketch comedians from the Groundlings, or you've got like body horror comedians like Sarah or you've got like body what? Body. She does body horror stuff.
Bowen Yang
Body horror.
Trisha Paytas
She does like, she does like, you know, she loves doing practical effects where like out of a vagina that she makes out of paper mache or something.
Bowen Yang
Oh, you know, I was like hers, I was like squirting.
Trisha Paytas
Squirting. She loves to squirt. I was like, wow, don't we all love to squirt? And then. But anyway, so no, like everyone comes from a different background. I love that. That's what SNL is right now. It's like you got queer comedians, you got like really like bro y, for lack of a better word, like, you know, standups and like it's from the whole. It runs the gamut. But I feel like you, like, you can't discount like that era of social media and of like. And of, let's just say like, of that era of YouTube specifically is like so important to like the current media landscape of like comedy, you know, like, it's. It, like it's a huge part of it. I hope you know that.
Bowen Yang
Thank you to the sponsor of today's episode, Aura Frames. Isn't it funny how the people we love most are often the hardest to shop for? Luckily, there's one gift that everyone on your list is sure to enjoy. An Aura digital photo frame. You guys, I love Aura Frames. I'm so happy they're sponsoring. We've talked about this before, but we've had Aura frames in our house for years. My husband actually gifted me aura frames when my first daughter was born. Cause we had so many photos and he's like, we don't have enough wall space to put all the print. Aura frames are digital photos that can change and be updated often and easily. I love them so much. I'm surprising him this year with more Aura frames. And I know he's going to love them because they come in different sizes and shapes and we want them all over our walls. It's just really cool. It also gives like a Harry Potter feel with the ever changing photos. And while I'm here in New York and he's in la, I can actually update the frames that we already have with photos here so he can see what I'm doing here as well. It's super fun. Named number one by wirecutter, Aura Frames make it incredibly easy to share unlimited photos and directly from your phone to the frame. And when you give an Aura frame as a gift, you can personalize and preload it with a thoughtful message and photos using the Aura app, making it an ideal present for the long distance loved ones. And right now we are long distance. This is the furthest I've ever been away, the most I've ever been away from Moses and my kids. So I love sending updates through photos and it's great. I'm going to get one for myself for travel next time. It's a gift so special you'll use it every day. Save on the perfect gift by visiting Aura frames to get $35 off Aura's best selling carver matte frames by using promo code Trish at checkout. That's a U R A frames.com promo code trish. This deal is exclusive to listeners, so get yours now in time for the holidays. Terms and conditions apply. I don't and I think a lot of people on social media don't because being recognized by like mainstream like is wild. I don't think like, I don't think any social media person has like been on YouTube. Like I was, I know you guys mentioned like Logan Paul and you mentioned our Smith, but I'm like, has anyone been on? Because it's like we just don't get recognized. You know what I mean? So that's why when you say that it's like shocking to hear because I don't think anyone else looks at social media people. I was like, wow, they're comedic geniuses over there. You know what I mean?
Trisha Paytas
Literally. But that's why people were buzzing at the show. People who worked at the show, all the writers who came up to you, all the cast that came up to you. Chloe Feynman was freaking out, Sarah was freaking out. We were all like, I mean Trish is like a legend and like, and the way I pitched it to Lauren, I had to like run the cameo of you by Lauren and I was like, so she's this like modern day, like we're Holly in figure. Like she like has like lived like a thousand lives. She's been through every kind of modern day experience of fame where people love her. People all of a sudden will flip on her. People like don't believe what she says. People believe what she says. It's like you have experienced the full spectrum and like, you show. I think you show people. You show me that, like, people can grow and change and, like, it's so amazing. Trash.
Bowen Yang
That's, like, the nicest thing to hear because I. Yeah, my past has been, like, crazy, but I really have, like, worked on myself, and I'm like. I feel like over time, it just shows. It's only been, like, you know, it's been a few years, but I feel like over time, it just shows, you know, like, people should change and grow. And I appreciate that.
Trisha Paytas
But also, like, I don't know, like, the Soul Boom episode was amazing. Like, I really. That's what we talked about. Like, the meditation stuff. And then Wild.
Bowen Yang
You watch. I got a lot of hate. So I was, like, surprised you said that, because a lot of people were like, yeah, I thought it was actually fine. But a lot of people, yeah, were, like, thought he was maybe more like, making fun. I didn't feel that in the moment that he was like.
Trisha Paytas
I didn't feel like he was making fun of you.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, I think it's like he has a very. He's older, so his, like, sense of humor is, like, very different and stuff like that. But totally, yeah. And to me, I, like, loved it because, again, mainstream. To me, he's, like, such a mainstream star. You know what I mean? But, like. You, too. Well, thanks for having me Back to you. So you. So you started SNL 2017 as a writer. How did you get that job if you didn't do standup?
Trisha Paytas
I was doing. I was doing, like, improv and sketch in college and then in New York, and I stayed here, and, like, I just had a bunch. I had, like, a group of people that I was, like, friends with, and I didn't have to, like, find people necessarily. I skipped that part, which I'm really lucky about, because I just had people to, like, do stuff with. And then I had a friend, Sudie Green. She got hired at SNL as a writer when we were, like, all 23. And she was, like, the first person to get, like, raptured up into the spaceship where we're like, oh, my God, like, one of us made it.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
You know, and then she, like, cut her teeth. And then Matt and I auditioned around the same time. And then it was a really crazy time in the friendship because I got it and he didn't. Oh, my gosh. Then I got hired as a writer first. And that was 2018. 2018. 2019 I was a writer. And then 2019, I got put on the cast. And so it's that. That's been the thing. But it was. It was just improv and sketch, and I was trying stand up. I was, like, also just doing a bunch of shows in Brooklyn. I was, like, putting up stuff and bringing other, like, queer friends into it and having fun with it. And then it just kind of like. And then people kind of all started to. There's. There was some, like, developmental thing where everyone started to, like, get something. And that was very fun. And now hopefully, it's settled into something. I don't know.
Bowen Yang
It's amazing. Like, that's so long because, like, I guess, like, Keenan's been on for a long time. I'm like, yeah, like, the span of, like, snl, we were talking about this. When people get big movies, like, year and Wicked, like, it's kind of almost like they have, like, a year left. And then it's like, okay, bye, snl. I'm, like, going on to do big movies. Do you think you'll stay for a while or so?
Trisha Paytas
Because, like, I went to the Wicked stuff. Oh, my God. We need to talk about your LA premiere. Because I was so sad I couldn't go to that. But, like, you looked amazing at the LA premiere, by the way.
Bowen Yang
By the way. Also, never been invited to a premiere my entire life. So crazy to me. Wicked being the first again. Another one that just, like, emailed me Universal Pictures, like, do you want to come? I got to see an early screening in October.
Trisha Paytas
And then that's. That was you at the separate repeat, holding the broom, right? Yes. You look so good. I loved that.
Bowen Yang
I think you repost. I think that was, like, the first thing you posted. We were talking about repost, and I was, like, so excited. I was like, oh, my God. Boating. I was like, look, Trish is like.
Trisha Paytas
Like, Trish saw Wicked. This is huge.
Bowen Yang
And my first review of it was literally like, obviously, all the stars are amazing. But I was like, wait, but Bowens, like, Fanny and your lines. Because are they all improv? I would assume they were mostly.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, they were mostly the stuff you.
Bowen Yang
Say, like, off the cuff. Which was great at the private screening because there's only 20 people, so you could hear the lines. The premiere, everyone's just, like, applauding and laughing, and it's like you can't hear the lines as much. But hearing all your lines, I was like, wait. It was the funniest part of the whole movie to me. And I'm not just saying that cause you're here. I said it on my podcast, too. I was like, wait, it was so funny. I was so gagged.
Trisha Paytas
That's so sweet.
Bowen Yang
Can we. Let's talk about Wicked. We'll come back to ask now.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Okay.
Bowen Yang
We, like, literally jumped so much. Cause I wanted.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, no, let's jump. Wait, let's jump.
Bowen Yang
I love jumping. Wicked.
Trisha Paytas
Wicked.
Bowen Yang
Probably the biggest fan. Girl, were you a fan of Wicked or. Okay, so you were a total fan. You're a theater.
Trisha Paytas
Well, we talked about this. So the thing that Trish and I are relating on is that we are total musical theater people, but also, like, I don't quite have this specific, like, encyclopedic knowledge that a lot of my friends do.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
I feel like you relate to this, right?
Bowen Yang
Yeah, I like the very mainstream. Like, if you ask me my favorite, I'm gonna say, like, Phantom, you know, I'm gonna say, like, the big ones. Wicked. I'm trying to get more, like, niche stuff, but also, it's.
Trisha Paytas
There's a lot out there, and it's all great stuff, and it's hard to keep up with it because so much of it is good.
Bowen Yang
It's so good. Did you do musical theater? You said you grew up in Colorado.
Trisha Paytas
I grew up in Colorado.
Bowen Yang
Did you do musical theater?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, in high school. And I had. God, it was like, such an oppressive thing because the musical theater at our high school was run by the dance teacher. So she would. The dance teacher was this woman who would come in, and she was very, like, such a hard. And she delivered, like, she put on great shows, and all I wanted to do was be in them, and I just had no idea what it meant. And so, like, my freshman year, I didn't understand the seniority of it all. And on the audition form, I was just like, I will not accept. Like, there's a box that says, check the box. Check the things that you will not accept. Yeah, like, check the roles that you don't want to do. And then I just went down the column. I was like, I don't want to do the understudy roles.
Bowen Yang
Oh.
Trisha Paytas
But I didn't realize that that was, like, what you weren't supposed to do. I was just like, I would love to be the jester in Once Upon a Mattress.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
Because that was the show my freshman year. And so I just checked the boxes of, like, I don't want to be the understudy for the Jester. I want to be the Jester. I didn't understand. I had zero clue. It was my first foray into anything performance related. And then I was just like, I don't Wanna be the understudy. And I didn't realize that's the most crazy thing you could possibly think of.
Bowen Yang
I actually don't know. I've never actually been casted in a play, so I don't know. I love it, but is it crazy? Cause I would think that's just saying what you want. You're like, I want to be the jester, not the understudy.
Trisha Paytas
Right.
Bowen Yang
And then I don't know if it's crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I got a talking to.
Bowen Yang
Oh.
Trisha Paytas
Mind you, I'm 13 years old. Like, this is the thing with some teachers. I don't know how you feel about this, Trish, but, like, some teachers, we love them. Yeah, we love teachers so much. Some of these people really have no business talking to young children this way.
Bowen Yang
What did she say to you?
Trisha Paytas
She was just like, so, like, the way she confronted people was like this. And I'm like, just give me a straight tone, you loser.
Bowen Yang
At 13.
Trisha Paytas
At 13, I'm like, why are you talking to me like that?
Bowen Yang
Really?
Trisha Paytas
My biggest pet peeve now is like, there's a Real Housewife on Salt Lake City right now who confronts people like this.
Bowen Yang
And I'm, like, triggered.
Trisha Paytas
It's such a visceral trigger. I'm like, I think of that teacher.
Bowen Yang
What's the housewife name? I don't watch housewives. What's her name?
Trisha Paytas
Her name is Bronwyn and Bronwyn Newport. And she's cool, she's lovely, and she has potential, and she's going the distance, and she's here to stay, and she's great. But I just. One thing I have to get over is just, like, this thing of. It just reminds me of a specific traumatic person.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
It is a literal trauma. Like, I know people throw that word around, but, like, I think that counts as, like, a trauma.
Bowen Yang
I think so. No, you were, like, triggered by, like, the voice outside, and you're like. And this person, too. So I feel like.
Trisha Paytas
Exactly. So. And then she. And I had this. This teacher and I had this whole saga throughout high school. And so, like, that kind of soured me a bit. But then, like, I just remember going to the library and renting out the CD of Wicked.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
And I was flipping through the booklet. Did you have the cd?
Bowen Yang
I did not have the cd, no.
Trisha Paytas
There was the booklet in there, where it was just pictures, like, printed pictures of, like, Idina and Kristen and, like, Norbert and everybody on the. Like, on the original cast. And I was like, this is the.
Bowen Yang
Coolest thing I've ever Seen so, like in high school. Yeah, I was late to the bandwagon. I was like an adult. I mean, it came out 2003, but I was like, obviously, like a little.
Trisha Paytas
What's your discovery with it?
Bowen Yang
It was in New York and I. Gosh, who did I see? It was May Hilty, actually, who's in Smash. Yes.
Trisha Paytas
God.
Bowen Yang
So good.
Trisha Paytas
And death becomes her while you're in town, by the way.
Bowen Yang
Yes. I think we're supposed to go on Wednesday. Yes. I'm so. Have you seen it?
Trisha Paytas
I haven't, but I hear it's amazing.
Bowen Yang
I love her and I loved Smash. That was like my favorite show of all time. So good. But yeah, I saw her in it and I just. Yeah, I like fell in love. And I saw the tour at the Pantages too, and just fell in love with it, obviously. Like, you just. You look at it and you're like, I want to do that. I want to be that on stage, you know?
Trisha Paytas
Of course.
Bowen Yang
Did you. Who did you see yourself playing when you would foresee it?
Trisha Paytas
I mean, I. So the first thing I heard about Wicked at school, before I even got the CD at the library was all the kids were like, I mean, popular is just the best song ever written. I was like, really? And this is before the days where you could like pull something up on your phone.
Bowen Yang
Right, right.
Trisha Paytas
And so I'm like giddy with the anticipation about this song. I'm like, well, apparently this is the greatest song ever committed to written record or whatever. And so I was just like. I just remember playing it. I was just like, this better be good. And if this isn't good, then I don't know what I'm gonna do.
Bowen Yang
I quit.
Trisha Paytas
I mean, I quit. And then I played it. It was the first thing I ever. I didn't. I didn't. I didn't start with no One more. I started straight on, like, what? It was like track six or seven.
Bowen Yang
Same. Yeah, yeah. And I was like, straight to popular.
Trisha Paytas
Straight to popular. I was like, holy. And then I was like, wait. Kristin Chenoweth? How do I know that name? I was watching her one season long sitcom on NBC in 1999.
Bowen Yang
What was that?
Trisha Paytas
It was called Kristen.
Bowen Yang
What? I had no idea. And I love her.
Trisha Paytas
No, you need to watch this. It lasted only like 10 episodes and I was heartbroken when it got canceled because I was like something about this little lady with the squeaky voice, the high pitched voice. And she's so funny, so iconic. And she just. It was like her working in a mat. She Just moved to the city. She worked at a magazine or something. It was so, like, very much like a late 90s, early 2000s sitcom premise.
Bowen Yang
Like, in front of an audience.
Trisha Paytas
In front of an audience.
Bowen Yang
I'm surprised I never seen it.
Trisha Paytas
I know. No one knows about it except me and her. I literally. I met her at the New York screening or. No, I met her at a screening where they played Wicked for all the former Elphabas and Glindas and all the former.
Bowen Yang
You were there.
Trisha Paytas
I was there. And that was the coolest thing. I got to meet Norbert. Leo Butts. I got to meet Kristen. I got to meet everybody.
Bowen Yang
And I love how you shout him out. He's kind of underrated as far as, like, everyone, of course, talks about Kristen and Idina. Of course. They're like the stars. But I do love him. I do know his voice is butter.
Trisha Paytas
Such butter.
Bowen Yang
So good.
Trisha Paytas
So good.
Bowen Yang
Those white pants. I do wish Fiero had white pants in the movie.
Trisha Paytas
I know.
Bowen Yang
You know, that was a little.
Trisha Paytas
He's got some good outfits in part two. Just two ways.
Bowen Yang
Wait, have you seen it?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Oh, I haven't seen the cut, but I just. Just being on set, I was like, johnny. Like, Johnny looks good.
Bowen Yang
We. Oh, my gosh. We. I'm so excited. Wait, are you in part two?
Trisha Paytas
I'm in part two. I'm in part two.
Bowen Yang
Wait, really? Is that.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Wait. I'm kind of gagged.
Trisha Paytas
It's like, you know, like, Glinda needs her people around her when she's Glitch. Yeah. And so, like, Fanny and Jenjin are.
Bowen Yang
There in the stage production. Are they?
Trisha Paytas
They're not really in the stage production, but, you know, I don't know. They just, like, really blew us out. I just have to address. I totally get it. For everyone out there who's like, why the are these two people in the movie so much? I totally get it.
Bowen Yang
Wait, no one says that. Who says that?
Trisha Paytas
No, I'm getting, like. I'm getting all sides. It's like, you get this. It's like you get. It's like something happens. People. There are eyes on it. People are gonna come at you with all kinds of opinions about it.
Bowen Yang
Right?
Trisha Paytas
And, like, you just have. That's part of it. You just have to, like, I have.
Bowen Yang
Not heard one negative thing about Shenzhen and Fanny. Like, that's crazy.
Trisha Paytas
No, I mean, it just depends on where you are in the arrangement. But, like, I'm in that. I'm in that. That's my. Those are my coordinates. And then people are coming at me with like, oh, my God, you're so funny. God bless. And also, oh, my God, it makes no sense that you're in this movie. I'm like, God bless. You know what I mean?
Bowen Yang
Oh, I see.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Bowen Yang
You just have general haters then. I mean, totally.
Trisha Paytas
It's not even general haters. It's people who are like, love you. But what? I'm like, yeah, absolutely.
Bowen Yang
That is the most wild thing. Those characters getting hate is wild, actually.
Trisha Paytas
But I also get it. It's like they're supposed to be annoying, they're supposed to be hateful, and they're bullies. And so I get why people are put off. And I'm just saying that's not who I am.
Bowen Yang
Well, yes, you're an actor. That is so crazy. Oh, my God. So you're in. Oh my. You're in part two. So.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, Part two.
Bowen Yang
I can't wait for that. I mean, the part one is just like, oh, my God, the most amazing thing ever. It's like wild everything about it.
Trisha Paytas
I mean, I feel like I have an objective enough distance from it to be like, this is the best movie I've ever seen.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I think anybody.
Trisha Paytas
Everybody says that I'm in it just enough to be able to say as an outsider, this is the best movie ever made.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I think everyone agrees, you know? Yes. I need to ask about Fanny's glasses.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Bowen Yang
Who did those? Who created those?
Trisha Paytas
That was Paul Tazewell. And there was the guy who costume designed everything. And he also was working with a glasses maker, whatever you call them. Oh, God, I have no idea. Glasses maker. And it's just so. A little wishbone clit thing going.
Bowen Yang
I love. Did you keep them?
Trisha Paytas
No, I didn't keep. Well, you know what? The glasses and I had a love hate relationship by the end.
Bowen Yang
Oh, you didn't love.
Trisha Paytas
Because they were so heavy. Like pure brass, really. And they would have to spray. I would get a fade. So I would come in with a fade sometimes. Cause I was flying in and out and they couldn't regulate, like, the haircuts I was getting in New York because it was shot in London. But I was. I was. I was the only one flying in and out. It was me and Michelle. Yeoh. Cause she was shooting other stuff and she was doing her literal Oscars campaign and I was working at snl. And so we were. The. Everyone else was living in London and she and I were the only people flying in.
Bowen Yang
I thought it was like your hiatus, like summer.
Trisha Paytas
It went into the Summer. No, we started shooting. We started rehearsing Thanksgiving of 2022.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my gosh.
Trisha Paytas
And then that went all the way into July of 2023. And then the strike happened, and then we. The only time we could all get back together. Strikes. Ends in, like, September, October. And then the only. Or whatever. And then the only time, the earliest we could all get back together was January of 2024 of this year. So we wrapped literally this year.
Bowen Yang
Wait, what?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah.
Bowen Yang
How do they edit it so quickly? Oh, you like. Oh, so part two, you're, like, filming this year?
Trisha Paytas
Part two, we filmed. It's all in the can. No, they were editing. So during the strike, they could edit.
Bowen Yang
I see.
Trisha Paytas
While we were struck. While we were stalled.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
So it just all came together in such a weird, staggered way. But then. What was my point?
Bowen Yang
You were talking about flying back and forth.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
The glasses. And so then they had to spray my hair. And, like, the brass would stain anyway. I just.
Bowen Yang
Oh, so you're like, I'm glad.
Trisha Paytas
I, like, bless this. The only thing I kept from set was my shiz pen.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Do you wear it?
Trisha Paytas
I don't wear it, but it's in my bedroom. It's, like, in my little tray.
Bowen Yang
Just looking at it, I look at.
Trisha Paytas
It, I'm like, oh.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Be careful. If you ever have hookups come over, they always stole my.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, no. What would they steal?
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Literally, I'd have all these cute little things. Like, I had a little, like, I love Donny Osmond, so I had this little Donny Osmond, like, meet and greet pass, and they would steal that. And I was like, how is that of value to you? That's what I'm saying. Be careful. It would be on my. By my bed. Like, it was, like, a little tray. And they would, like, always steal the little. I like little candies. They would steal.
Trisha Paytas
No.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. It was crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Does Moses steal stuff?
Bowen Yang
No, no, he doesn't. But, you know, sometimes people would leave stuff there, too. Sometimes. Like. Well, not a prostitute, but. So weird. I won't say who, but I had someone who was on SNL one time come over and leave me an American Express gift card for $50 after a hookup. And this is a very old, old person from, like, the 90s. Knew.
Trisha Paytas
But you were like, oh, this wasn't like. This wasn't. I was turning you.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, no, it was very wild. We just went on Tinder. I was like, damn. Okay. But he's like, this is for you. All Right. Thanks for the gift card for $50. But anyways, the point is, like, that's so valuable that someone might know.
Trisha Paytas
But if someone took it, I'd be like, all right, enjoy.
Bowen Yang
They needed it a little.
Trisha Paytas
A little piece from that.
Bowen Yang
No, but that's so iconic because it's like, oh, my God, I can't wait. Oh, my God, I can't wait for part two. What was your favorite scene to film?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God. My favorite scene to film was.

Trisha Paytas
It's really hard to say. Like, I think it was the first things we shot as a group was the Dr. Dillman scenes where he's like giving the lecture. And so that was the first time, like we were all together and because I think they started with popular, that was the first thing they shot for. Thing.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
Was popular.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
And then we all got together for, yeah, those scenes and it felt like going to school again. It really felt like, I don't know, we were all getting to know each other and we were doing bits and like, it was just so natural with like, me and Bron, also named Bronwyn Shenchen's name is Bronwyn James. She's an amazing actor. And then Ethan and Ari and Cynthia and like Marissa, everybody. And then Johnny was there and. Oh, my gosh, so fun. Like, that was the. I don't know, like, and then we were just like, trying. And that was when I figured out, like, oh, John M. Chu, the director just wants me to, like, go off the cuff and do bits and ad lib and. Sure, I'll give it to you. I didn't think he would use any of it.
Bowen Yang
Used all of it. There's so many lines.
Trisha Paytas
Used all of it. And I'm like, damn. I gotta like, that's. That's. That's permanent now. And that feels crazy to me. I'm like, you're gonna use my stupid ad libs in this gigantic movie?
Bowen Yang
They were the most iconic part. Keep telling me. Like, it's the most iconic. I mean, that's why you were hired. You're so smart and so fun and like, that actually is amazing. I figured they were out there, but I was like, they're so good and you're so cute in it. I. You dance and sing somehow. That so good. And were you singing live too? Because everyone was singing live.
Trisha Paytas
We, like, we didn't sing live. Like, just for. What is this feeling? And then there's something in part two that may or may not make it to the end to the final cut, but like, there's like a quick little solo line in part two, but then in what is this feeling? Yeah, like, there was a whole, like, thing with Stephen Schwartz. Like, we went into the studio, he gave us note. He was like, very particular. I was like, damn, this is like. It's like no small parts. I love that idea of, like, doesn't matter that these. You can barely hear these people in the mix. Like, we need to get this right.
Bowen Yang
All the voices. I see it all over TikTok. A lot of the ensemble singers will show themselves in the booth, like, recording all the, like, vocals and stuff. It's so cool.
Trisha Paytas
I should have recorded that. Damn. This is the thing that I didn't. I need to learn this from you and other people is like, like, I can't wait for you to like, post all the things that you documented from so many clips.
Bowen Yang
I have a thousand clips from yesterday. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Are you gonna cut it together? Are you gonna.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna cut. I'm gonna do a little voiceover. I have some of us, like, talking. Yeah, I love it. No, I. But if I was on wicked, I would 100% be recording every little thing.
Trisha Paytas
No, I was too scared to wait.
Bowen Yang
Why? Were you, like, nervous or. Just didn't wanna.
Trisha Paytas
I just didn't. I don't know. It was like, they were very strict. They were like, they sent out this big document before we started, and it was just to, like, you know, be like, you know, don't. Don't. No phones. Everyone had their phones out.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I keep seeing so much behind the scenes.
Trisha Paytas
No. And it was okay, but I think it was just their way of being like, do not post things, obviously, while we're in production, but now that the movie's out, we can do it.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. All the behind. You guys should have been, like, doing tiktoks. Like, the Bridgerton cast will always be doing, like, little, like, TikTok dances behind the scenes. You didn't do any of that.
Trisha Paytas
It. There's one dance. There's one video of me and Ari doing. Trying to do a TikTok dance, and it's us failing. Miserable.
Bowen Yang
Is it out there?
Trisha Paytas
It's not out there. I don't think it's worth posting because it's. So you have it? I have it.
Bowen Yang
You have to post. That's right.
Trisha Paytas
Play it.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
It's not.
Bowen Yang
Is it in the drafts?
Trisha Paytas
It's in a folder, but it's. No, it's not in the drafts. I don't think I'll post it. I don't think I'll post the actual thing.
Bowen Yang
Wait, I need to see. But it's not.
Trisha Paytas
It's like. No, Trish, it's so bad. It's gonna be such a letdown. Okay.
Bowen Yang
No, this is everything and more.
Trisha Paytas
Here we go. Here we go. This is us in, like, the Oz dust. Like, what are we trying to do? This is so.
Bowen Yang
No music.
Trisha Paytas
No music.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Wait, you have to post just that as is.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God. You had. I. I haven't watched that in two years. I'm so.
Bowen Yang
I'm like, two years.
Trisha Paytas
No, it's been two years.
Bowen Yang
Do you ever get starstruck? Like, you just, like, mention it so casually, like, me and Ari dancing. Do you ever get, like, starstruck by any.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, all the time. You literally. You. No, Trish, they told me when. Cause you are an angel. You came straight from the airport. Cause we literally told you with, like, a day's notice.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Please come to New York if you can.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And then you came straight from the airport to snl. And then the talent team was like, all right, Trish is here. Do you want to say hi to her? I was like, yeah, okay. And then, like, we met. It was so lovely.
Bowen Yang
It was the best. I actually heard you. You were rehearsing a sketch. You were doing the lawyer sketch, and your microphone was on. You're like, Trisha Payne is here. Should I say hi now? Yeah, they got it with something nice. I was like, oh, my God, the microphone's on. What if he's like, oh, you were very nice.
Trisha Paytas
What did I say? Oh, my God.
Bowen Yang
You literally said, oh, Trisha Payton is here. She'll say hi. Say hi to her now. And, like, no, like, stay. You were, like, doing, like, a sketch or something like that.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, it was really nice. I was. I was very cool. Yeah, like, within, like. Yeah, I was, like, 48 hours, and you were so. The DM you sent me, too, was, like, literally, like, it might be beneath you. And I was like, to do Saturday.
Trisha Paytas
Night Live, it does feel like it's beneath you.
Bowen Yang
This is the most important thing I'll ever do ever, in my entire life. That's not true. This is the peak. This is the. I've never act. I've never said any lines on tv. Like, you. You casted me. Like, that's it. No one else has ever casted me in anything. I've auditioned for 5,000 TV shows, 5,000 plays. Never got. So I'm like, this was my first, like, TV debut acting.
Trisha Paytas
You slayed it. You tore, ate, slayed and more.
Bowen Yang
I was. I was starstruck. I was starstruck by you because I was telling you when I first saw you was just how attractive you are. And I mean this so sincerely because you are, like, a goofy person. So I think, in general, people think of comedians as, like, goofy, totally. But then when you see them in person, like, the hotness. I was kind of, like. I was flustered. I was like. And I was, like, asking you the most inappropriate. I was like, how old are you? Are you single? Like, just asking you so many inappropriate questions.
Trisha Paytas
Such a good answer. And then we. And then we connected over our signs.
Bowen Yang
Taurus, Scorpio, which is my favorite. That's what my husband is. And it's just like, that animal attraction to a Scorpio and Taurus because we're opposites on the chart. And I was just like, oh, my. And I think just everything. Talking about you for so long on the podcast. We cosplayed you in chapel. Like, it felt surreal. I was like, wait a minute. Like, even hugging on stage, I was just like, wait, this feels like. It feels like a fever dream. Like, it. So sweet.
Trisha Paytas
Well, yeah, it's like, there's, like, jazz playing and, like, it just feels, like, beautiful and also mournful. It's like, we just did this huge.
Bowen Yang
Show, and, oh, I'm so jealous you get to do it again. Like, that's so cool. But at the same time, oh my God, we should talk about this. I think it's so interesting. You can talk about like cutting sketches and stuff or not.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, absolutely.
Bowen Yang
Oh my God. I did not know this. I really didn't. I did read. I've read books by like SNL cast members and the one I read was like Gasping for Airtime with J. Moore. Have you read it?
Trisha Paytas
I haven't, but I love.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, he was so good. But like never got a sketch on air. Like he was like, I'd always try to write for Chris Farley, like thinking I'd get on. Like, it's a really interesting book. So I guess I didn't know, like the pressure. And then when I got there, it's so nerve wracking. Like they cut, what? They cut four sketches last night, they cut three before.
Trisha Paytas
So yeah, they bring out this big cork board where it's like, this is the show after dress rehearsal.
Bowen Yang
So dress rehearsal, which I also didn't know you bring in a live audience at 8 and you do the full show. Yeah, performance, costumes, everything, the whole bit.
Trisha Paytas
Musical, guest performances, everything. That's just like a nice dry run essentially. So that by the time it goes to air, like everyone's done it at least once.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
And that's like, you know, even for Shabuzi, like the musical guest, it's like, oh, like it's all, it's all good. Like work out any kinks, any camera cuts that need to be changed. But yeah, then after dress rehearsal. So dress rehearsal, that was a long one. Last night was 2 hours and 10 minutes. Yes, very long. So we were 40 minutes over. Cause the air show was an hour and a half. And then we wait and then the producers and Lauren pick out the show. They wheel out. It's a big reveal. It's like the cast list going up or whatever and then that comes out and there's a column of cut sketches. We cut three and then on air we cut one.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And so four sketches total. Yeah.
Bowen Yang
It was right before our sketch. Like we're cutting this one and I was actually really bummed. It was called Irish Americans and it's like a tavern sketch. And I do a thing on Tick Tock where I have a little tavern in my house and I love doing like an Irish accent and I was like, oh my God, wait, I could have been in this sketch. It's like, oh no, it was so cute. And I was so sad. I got cut but sometimes they air the ones that get cut, right? Like on YouTube and stuff. Sometimes they put, like, cut for time or something.
Trisha Paytas
So there might be a life for it. It's a really funny sketch. But even I messaged you when I told you about the sketch. I was like, look, like, there's a. The only thing is there's a chance that it might get cut. There's always a chance it might get cut. And that would break my heart. And so that was my only trepidation. Honestly. I have a million thoughts running through my head. Every show, every week. This week, the only priority I had was to make sure that you were taken care of and that we would bring it to Erin. Pass the finish line.
Bowen Yang
That was so wild to me. Cause you do a million things on the show. You're so busy, so running around, and you were. You were, like, the most attentive. I was like, that's again, why I think I, like, fell in love. I was like, oh, my God. Is this, like, my boyfriend? Like, he's, like, so attentive. He's like, make sure you're okay. You're, like, holding my hand. Like, it's just, like, so sweet at the end. I don't know if you saw TikTok noticed, because I didn't. It was all blur. They're like, oh, it's like Bowen making sure Trisha gets a Paul hug. Like, there was something you said. You're like, oh, like, whatever. And then, like, Paul gives me a hug. And I was like, oh, my God. That didn't happen before. So everyone's like, look at Bo and making sure Trish gets a hug.
Trisha Paytas
It was like, does that. I hope it's not, like, patronizing. That's my only fear. I'm like, no, I'm treating you like a. A hospital patient. Is it like the Secret Garden or something where I'm, like, pushing you around? Like, that's my own. That's my first of all.
Bowen Yang
I would love that. I would like anything. I just, like, it was very unexpected and nice, and everybody was. Everyone was super nice. But of course, you. I was just like, oh, my God. I would have done it. You did say it was. Could be cut. And I honestly would have done it just to meet you, just to be there. I didn't know what it was. And I was like, if I can meet him, that's all that matters. And then I felt, like, an instant connection.
Trisha Paytas
Instant connection. But even Jimmy Falley, who you also know and love.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
Was telling you, like. Cause I was talking to Him. I was like, oh, my God, isn't Trish amazing? And also, like, my worst fear is if, like, it doesn't make it to air. And then he goes, well, I was talking to Trish, and I was telling her, like, even if it does get cut, that's the full SNL experience. Yes.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. And everyone kept telling me that, and I kept thinking, like, are we getting cut? Because literally, wardrobe was telling me, Taylor the Page. Like, everyone was telling me that they're like, but that means you, like, really made it to SNL if you get cut. I was like, okay, I feel like we're getting cut.
Trisha Paytas
People are really talking about this a lot.
Bowen Yang
I probably, like, four people told me, and I was like, okay, I know.
Trisha Paytas
I think it's just a way to, like, set expectations. But also, it's like, it does put it in your head where you're like, am I getting cut?
Bowen Yang
Yes. Yes. Yeah, I did get a little, like, nervous about it. And then, like you said, the board comes out. And what I didn't know, too, is, like, one I didn't know. Lorne Michaels was at every taping. But also, he's giving the notes.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Bowen Yang
The most surreal thing in the whole world.
Trisha Paytas
So surreal.
Bowen Yang
Cause I love. Oh, by the way, is this from wardrobe, you said, right?
Trisha Paytas
Yes. Okay, so there's someone in the hair department named Ariana and her girlfriend. Literally, it was the scuttlebutt. Like, it was this Friday. Like, this girl Ariana goes, oh, my God, Trish Paytas is at snl. And then her girlfriend immediately springs into action and makes those bracelets for you.
Bowen Yang
It says, SNL Queen Tutorial, Queen. Tut, Trish. Like, that's everything, Trish. Like fish. Yes. My most popular TikTok has, like, 80 million views. Is the Kingdom is the King T. And, like, of course, it's even before my generation, so many people I didn't know. So I had to, like, break it down that I was like, I literally stole it from Steve Martin. People think I came up with the dance. I was like, literally just took it from him. And he did it on that stage where we were for the podcast. That's why. And Andy Kaufman, we talked about. Obsessed with so much, like, talk about.
Trisha Paytas
I want to hear you talk about Andy Kaufman, because I feel like there is this overlap between the two of you.
Bowen Yang
I love him. And that's what kind of got me in trouble at the beginning of my career, trolling because I thought, well, it worked for him, you know, like, maybe it'll, like, work for me kind of did got me on snl.
Trisha Paytas
There you go.
Bowen Yang
Not the trolling part. But, you know, it gets to where people pay attention to you, right? And I love Andy Kaufman. My introduction to him actually was Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman.
Trisha Paytas
Right.
Bowen Yang
So I didn't know, obviously, the real one before, but once I watched man on the Moon, I did like, deep dives into like, the real Andy Coffin, who is genius. But Jim Carrey did a great job. I, like, loved him. So I was like, wait, this is so smart. So all my original, like, trolling on YouTube was just stealing his stuff. So I would say, oh, you know, men are superior to women. Women are supposed to cook and clean and cut the carrots, like, saying crazy stuff. And people are like, oh, my God, who? You know what I mean? People were pissed. But I loved it because it was like, making money, right? And I need money because I was. I don't know if you know this. I was like a hooker, like on the streets for like $5, you know, like, giving $5. And I was like, this is great. I'm making money, pissing people off. So that's like, how it started. Obviously, I regret it now because it haunts you forever. These, like, clips. But.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, but like, let's talk about this because the regret is like, useful until not useful. It's just like, it's. It's good until it like, really just like, I don't know with you. And like, I was telling you about this meditation I did yesterday.
Bowen Yang
I love this talk about it. Cause I like, actually, like, I looked at it right away. It changed like, everything. I was like, I've never heard of this before.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, so it's an astrologer that I love named Chani Nicholas. And she does. She's got a voice smooth like butter. And then she talk about Norbert Leo Butts. She's the Norbert Leo Betts of astrology.
Bowen Yang
Butter voices.
Trisha Paytas
Butter voices. And then she has this new meditation out called, you know, that's centered around, like, confidence. I was like, oh, this is perfect. Apropos, I'm about to do a show. Why not? And then it's a visualization where you're in a desert and then you come across this temple. And in the temple, it's been set up for you. There's candles lit, there's a whole, like, upholstered seat for you. You sit there. You sit there and you see three mirrors in front of you. This is so. Woo woo. The first mirror is. You see yourself anytime you've been told that you are Kind and nurturing and that you care for people and that you are there for someone else. And present. The second mirror is you seeing yourself. Anytime you've been told you're too much, you're extra, you're not good enough, you're not right for something. That's the second mirror. The third mirror is both of those people, those versions of yourself coming together, and that kind version of yourself telling the extra version of yourself, essentially, that, like, hey, it's okay. You can be this. You know, and then that is, like, kind of what confidence is. It's just, like, merging those things. And I think it kind of worked.
Bowen Yang
When you said it not to be, like, so parasocial with you, but I was just like, that's how I felt. Because sometimes I always feel like, oh, my God, I'm doing too much. Like, I'm like, let me not be extra. Let me not do this. But when you had, like, said that, you were, like, the nurturing kind, where, like, the whole time I was there, you were just, like, hyping me up. You, like, we're honored to have you. Just, like, stuff that was, like, so, like, amazing to hear. I just felt like a hug. And I was just, like, every time you spoke to me, every time we, like, had those moments, you'd come in the dressing room to hang out, you'd come in the dressing room to say hi. Like, you just were, like, literally the most nurturing person. And you're so busy, you're on this, like, show. And I'm just, like. I told Moses. I was just like, this is, like, so weird. I mean, maybe I'm being parasocial, but I'm like, I just feel, like, a connection. I just felt like a hug. Like, a mental hug, a physical hug, like, everything. And that's why at the end of, like, the after party, I was. I had a couple drinks, but I was just like, I love you so much. And I felt it, though, even today, now that I'm sobered up, I'm still like, God, I love you so much.
Trisha Paytas
I love you.
Bowen Yang
The stuff you say, stuff like that is just, like. It just resonates so hard. And I feel like nobody else I can talk to about. You know what I mean? That gets it. So when he said that, I was like, I love this so much.
Trisha Paytas
Well, this is my thing about working at snl. It's like, you are going to be with people who are so unlike you. You're not going to be in a comfort zone in terms of, like, dealing with people who, like, Align with you on every single thing. And, like, that is a stressful situation on its face, but also, like, it's a beautiful thing because it's like, it's not that I can, like, talk to anyone. Like, I do get nervous around whatever situations and people, but, like, it does at least make you think. Like, you see hosts come through, you see cast and alums come through, and you're just like, I. It sounds so oversimplified, but I'm like, oh, everyone's the same.
Bowen Yang
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
People are the same.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And we all have the same, like, fears and insecurities and all these things. And then, like, the nicest. Not the nicest thing we can do, but, like, a beautiful thing we can do is just to, like, make that apparent. And, like, I don't know. I'm being so, like, no.
Bowen Yang
Love it.
Trisha Paytas
Mushy.
Bowen Yang
No, but anyway, holding space for it.
Trisha Paytas
Holding space with it. Wait, wait, hold on.
Bowen Yang
Okay.
Trisha Paytas
So hearing you talk about, like, doing a deep dive into Andy Kaufman, doing a deep dive into Wicked, even though you found it later on, like.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
So when you find something, how do you know that you're like, I'm going in.
Bowen Yang
Ooh, It's. I don't know. That's a hard one. I think something just sparks it. Like, I can be, like, 10 years behind something. Like Lost. I just got into, like, I had a Lost podcast, like, two years ago, and that show. When did the show come out?
Trisha Paytas
Like, I don't know, 2006.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. Yeah. So in 2022, I discovered it started a Lost podcast, became so obsessed. Like, did our maternity photos, you know, as Saeed and Hurley, you know, so we're like. I was. I'm so obsessed with it, and so I just get really obsessed with things, and I don't know, something sparks it, and I don't know what it is. I do get hyper fixated. You're like, my latest hyper fixation, where I was like, cosplay him. We have to do this. Like, I was, like, being a little. That's why I like seeing you. I was just like, oh, my God. This is, like, kind of weird because I don't hyper fixate on everybody. You know what I mean? But maybe after last night, maybe it's so funny because we talked about Wicked and Gladiator, and I would be on our podcast all the time, and Oscar loves, like, Paul Mescal, and he's like. And Pedro Pascal, and I'm like, no, I don't. Because Wicked had the men. I was like, Bowen Yang, Jonathan Bailey, no, but for real, those to me were like. I'm like, who would. Even if you're going to see sexy men, like, why would you not go see Wicked over Gladiator? But after last night, I was like, I better go see Gladiator.
Trisha Paytas
You better go see Gladiator. Paul's. Paul's got it.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. Actually, like, insane. The nicest. Like, so sweet and humble and, like, everything. And he just was like. I was like. I felt it. I was like. Before, I was like, ugh, whatever. But I was like, oh, my gosh. He is kind of, like, mesmerizing. But you probably get that with so many hosts, or you're just like, oh, my God, this person's the best person ever.
Trisha Paytas
Totally. Like, we all end up, like, Sarah Sherman and I have a bit where we're like, oh, my God, Is the host our best friend? Like, and, like, every week, that's how I would feel.
Bowen Yang
Every week, I feel like we're gonna. That's how I felt with Shabuzi. He came in, he's like, oh, I'm borrowing your mirror. And they saw the dress. I'm like. He's like, I love the dress, but you can borrow that if you want to. Like, we were like. And I'm not a. I'm a very awkward person. I'm not a social person. But for some reason, last night, I turned into a social butterfly. I was like, yeah. You know, Like, I was just like. He was rehearsing back there. I was, like, sitting with all his people. Like, it's just. You do feel like you're best friends with everybody among.
Trisha Paytas
You're like, this is. I'm gonna use such an annoying word. The thing about SNL is it's pluralistic. It's like, there's. It's different kinds of people. It's not like. It's not diverse.
Bowen Yang
I don't.
Trisha Paytas
I wouldn't. That's not the word I would use. And that word has, like, a weird, like, stink on it now.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Like, it's pluralistic.
Bowen Yang

Trisha Paytas
There's just different kinds of people.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And everyone just like, is able to just like, work towards the same goal, which is to, like, put on a show and also, like, have fun and like, go out after and like, I don't know, like, not party but just like socialize and like, rub shoulders and like, just say hello.
Bowen Yang
It was cute. The part I went to was like, we had like, chicken fingers and Mac and cheese. It was like this cute little thing. Like, I thought it was gonna be like, I don't know. I never go to parties if there's like a rave or something like that. But it was like, super cute. But you're right, it's like the people I obviously didn't interact with or the people I wouldn't think I would, like, mesh well, like the Mikey Day and Colin Joe. But they were so nice. I saw both them. They both introduced themselves in the hallway and stuff. And to me, I'm like, okay, those people are like, gonna be further than like, what I am or whatever. And they were, like, just so sweet and so nice. Thank you. Did so good. Like, they were like, so sweet. And then Dana Carvey and David Spade were out there too, and I was.
Trisha Paytas
Like, I saw that photo of you guys in the hallway. That's so cute. I love that photo.
Bowen Yang
I see it. In the hallway.
Trisha Paytas
There's a photo of you. No, you posted it.
Bowen Yang
Oh, the photobomb. I didn't know what was happening.
Trisha Paytas
The photo bomb.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. Yes.
Trisha Paytas
It's a perfect photo.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I was kind of gagged for it. They were, like, standing right next to me. I was kind of like. Cause. Did you watch SNL as a kid?
Trisha Paytas
Obsessed.
Bowen Yang
Who was your cast?
Trisha Paytas
My cast? I just moved from Canada, and for some reason, I didn't watch it in Canada, but we moved from Canada to Colorado.
Bowen Yang
You're Canadian?
Trisha Paytas
I'm dual, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Bowen Yang
I didn't know this. Oh, my God. There's so much lore.
Trisha Paytas
There's a lot of lore. I mean, I love. Anytime you say lore, I'm like.
Bowen Yang
It's very, like, social media, Gen Z. I feel like I'm trying to fit in.
Trisha Paytas
But you don't, like. You don't, like, overuse it. You, like, throw it in there when it. When it's fine.
Bowen Yang
People overuse it sometimes, like, the lore. But I. Yeah, okay. Laura. So you're Canadian going to.
Trisha Paytas
I'm Canadian going to Colorado. And then, like, you know, I just had to move around a lot when I was a kid, and it felt like the thing I could connect with people at school was comedy. It was, like, funny movies. Like, funny. Like, eventually it became, like, Will Ferrell movies. But then, like, my first cast was, like, Will and Anna Gasteyer and Chrissy Tancheri Oteri. Like, that.
Bowen Yang
That was kind of like a golden era. I feel. It was. I feel like that. I feel like the Adam Sandler, Dana Carvey era was very golden. Phil Hartman.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Bowen Yang
And then it goes in ways, but I feel like you are kind of in a golden era right now. This cast, like, it really is.
Trisha Paytas
It just has a different look to it. It's not like, I don't think there are, like. And, like, I'm about to, like, this is a weird, controversial opinion. I feel like. Like, we're an amazing ensemble. Everyone brings something different to the table. No one's outshining anyone. I don't think.
Bowen Yang
I feel like there's definitely stars. I mean, I think everyone's amazing, but there's always a breakout stars.
Trisha Paytas
Sure. But I feel like we're all sharing. All of us. All, like, you know, what is it? Like, 16 of us are, like, sharing the light.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That's hope. Ideally, that's what happens. And sometimes it gets out of balance.
Bowen Yang
Well, I mean, there always has to be stars for everything. You know what I mean? There always has to be a breakout. When you see stuff, you're just like, but yeah, I get what you're saying. I mean, it's all. Everyone's funny. Like, there's not one person where like, ugh, I'm annoyed with this person.
Trisha Paytas
No, totally. And then like, you know, there's a lot of conversation now about like, oh, why isn't there like a big SNL movie star right now? It's all. It's just because, well, comedy and movies are in a weird place.
Bowen Yang
There's like, no comedies. There's no Will Ferrell movies anymore. You know, they don't do well. Which is like, so interesting. I don't know why.
Trisha Paytas
Well, like, I hope something happened. Like, Wicked. Doing well gives me hope that like, oh, like, you can't say blanketly, like musical theater musical movies are like, bad or don't do well.
Bowen Yang
Right.
Trisha Paytas
You know?
Bowen Yang
No, I feel like they're gonna have like a resurgence.
Trisha Paytas
I hope so. Even though it's like, it's tied to this big IP and there's like someone like Ari Negrani attached to it. Like, that's part of its success. But also, like, I think people love a musical. I think, like, yeah, I just keep watching Wicked and thinking, God, I forgot that movies can make you feel like this.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, like so much emotion and. Yeah, like, yeah, even people who are not. Like, my husband doesn't like musicals at all, but he like loved Wicked. Like, he was just like, we have to see it again. I feel like. Cuz it makes you just like feel something, obviously. The way it shot, the singing, all of that. Like, that. But it makes you feel something where it's like, yes, if you don't love musicals, I just break out in like, song. But like, it's just so different, right? No, because there's more. There's so much story to it too. They didn't leave one song out, did they? All of them. So good.
Trisha Paytas
All of them are in there.
Bowen Yang
So will you do more movies then? Do you have money lined up?
Trisha Paytas
I. Yeah, yeah, I've got some stuff lined up. They're like really great projects that, like, I, Like, I'm proud of. I. Yeah, they're coming out. But also like, if this is the end, like, that's great.
Bowen Yang
I don't think this is the end.
Trisha Paytas
I literally, I think all the time I'm like, if this is. If this is it, no problem. I die tomorrow.
Bowen Yang
You're like, I accomplished.
Trisha Paytas
Not even that I accomplished. I'm like, I got to experience a lot of great things.
Bowen Yang
That's the best way to live life, I think if you can say that, that's, like, the best life live. That's how I felt after last night. I was like, that's it for me. That's a career peak. I'm gonna talk about it for literally the next. For, like, the past 15 years, people have talked about this one Eminem video I did in 2009. So this will be my new Eminem video for the next 15 years. Trish made us. And all that one time. You know.
Trisha Paytas
You know, what can I. This is my theory on why last night was so Such a thing, such a moment. Like, literally, they brought you out, and before I'd even cut back to you, like, I've never experienced this where you were brought out and people lost their. In the front row.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And just even in, like, the. The bleachers, like, up. Up in the rafters. Like, I think it's because this is my experience. Like, people discover you and they. It's so personal on YouTube. It's like you're usually just watching it by yourself. And so people feel this parasocial thing where it's like, oh, my God. Like, it's very intimate, this thing that I feel towards Trisha. Either way. Either it's like, oh, my God. Like, you know, way back in the day, it's like, I can't believe she's trolling in this way. Or now it's like, oh, my God. Like, I could hear her tap her nails on her Versace purses all night.
Bowen Yang
Yes. Asmr, too.
Trisha Paytas
And do it. Do asmr. You're my favorite asmr.
Bowen Yang
When you said that on your podcast, you're like, now she's doing asmr. I was like, that's so random. That's.
Trisha Paytas
I watch every single video.
Bowen Yang
Do you like ASMR in general or.
Trisha Paytas
I love ASMR in general.
Bowen Yang
Do you do it?
Trisha Paytas
I don't do it. I can never do it. I have such respect. I just.
Bowen Yang
Your voice is asmr.
Trisha Paytas
No, it's not.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, you could right now. Yeah. Duo. It's like, very much like, I don't know. You could do, like, a role play. Because role play. Asmr is my favorite. Where you just, like, talk and you're very quiet like a dentist. You could be, like, a great dentist.
Trisha Paytas
What's your favorite role play?
Bowen Yang
Asmr.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Bowen Yang
Oh, gosh. I did do a Glinda one that's like, go on TikTok right now. It's funny.
Trisha Paytas
You did, like, Toxic. Best toxic girl in a lunchroom.
Bowen Yang
Oh, I love being, like, mean girl. Yeah, anything. Mean girl. Toxic best friend. I love being mean. I'm, like, not mean, but I love to, like, pretend I do love acting. I guess that, to me, is my snl, my little sketches, and it's fine.
Trisha Paytas
Well, that's why I'm like, you have it. Like, you have. Like, to me, comedy is like, something is wrong. There's an error in the system. And, like, it's just about, like, finding that error and blowing it out. And you do that all the time.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Thanks. I don't know. I just like to have fun, but I only do it by myself. So to be on SNL in front of. Of, like, obviously with you guys was, like, everyone in the sketch. It was, like, crazy. It was like, well, obviously Paul and then ego and Andrew and Sarah. Like, that was, like, crazy. That was like, so, you know, because I'm usually by myself in a room, so to do it in front of people, I'm like. But luckily, it was just playing myself, which is, like, wild. If you could be. It sucks that you can't do because, like, to do movies, you have to take off time. Is SNL flexible with it?
Trisha Paytas
They. It can be flexible if you can, like, stagger it into the breaks, but even then, like, you need those breaks to just, like, turn off. And I. And I didn't realize that during Wicked, like, Lorne Michaels, in his infinite wisdom, was like, okay, I'll let you do it. But you're. It's gonna be hard. Like, you might hate this.
Bowen Yang
And you were like, I'm gonna try. Well, you have to. It's Wicked.
Trisha Paytas
I was like. I was like, I have to.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Thank you so much for all the opportunities you've given me and for, like, literally changing my life. But I, like, this will be life changing as well, and it'll help the show. And, like.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yeah. I feel like that's what I'm saying. With the breakout movie star, like, it's. You're the one in the movies right now, which is, like, you know, the biggest movie ever.
Trisha Paytas
Well, but, yeah, like, any time he's like, it's not that he literally says, I told you so, but anytime he's able to say I told you so, that he was right, I'm like, damn, this man has seen it all.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, he's doing it all.
Trisha Paytas
He's seen every version of.
Bowen Yang
Have you seen the new movie? Is it out? The 1975 one?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, it's great.
Bowen Yang
Where is it at? How have I not seen it?
Trisha Paytas
It was out in theaters for a while, I think. I think it's. You can. You can rent it, buy it.
Bowen Yang
Okay, I haven't seen that one yet. But he has been around for literally so long doing this, so he kind of sees it all happen. Is it true that Ariana specifically asked for you to be in this role?
Trisha Paytas
It's true. And that's why I can't believe it. I can't believe it went that far.
Bowen Yang
Oh my God. How did that even happen? How did you meet? How did you, like. Was it just from snl? You guys knew each other?
Trisha Paytas
No, we didn't know each other at all. Like, it was just because I knew John. Cuz John and I met very briefly. I'm Chu. And then we were just like. I was out at dinner with a friend and then like, we were drunk and we FaceTimed him and we were like, john Pep Bowen in your movie? And I was like, haha, I'll be like an Emerald City guard or whatever. And then, wow. And then he literally was like, I'll think of something. And I was like, no. And then eight months pass, and then he's like, so what's your SNL schedule again? And I was like, what are you asking me? I'll do it, I'll do it. I'll do it. I'll move heaven and earth.
Bowen Yang
Oh, wow.
Trisha Paytas
And then he was like, I think I have this part for you. You're kind of like in the background for most of it, so, you know, if you're okay with that. But I think there's potential for fun moments. You'd be in every shot with Glinda, with Ari, so it could be fun. And I was like, I'll do it. I'll do it. I'll do it.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
I couldn't believe that he was actually thinking of me.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God.
Trisha Paytas
Following through on it. And then for a second, just wasn't gonna work with the SNL schedule. And then Ari and I didn't even, like, know her know her.
Bowen Yang
Oh, I didn't know. I thought you guys were, like, friends.
Trisha Paytas
No. And then she, like, went to bat for me before we even, like, hung out or anything. But she, like, literally helped make it happen. She called Lauren and he was like, I don't know, like, my hands are tied. He can't miss shows. He just can't miss shows.
Bowen Yang
She called him.
Trisha Paytas
She called him.
Bowen Yang
That's wild.
Trisha Paytas
And then they Have a really loving relationship too. And they have a very. What I imagine was like, a very complicated relationship. Like, I think, like, they were just coming out of, like, they were just rounding the corner with, like, the Pete of it all. And, like, you know, like, that was like, a whole, like, era. Right.
Bowen Yang
I kind of, for some reason, blocked that all out, but now that you say that, oh, my God, that was, like, so significant. It was a huge Pete Davidson era. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
You know, and then that all settled down. Like, they both, like, kind of, like, settled into, like, their lives after that moment. Everyone's doing great. Like, Pete was at the show a few weeks ago. He's doing great. And. But Ari was like, oh, I haven't talked to him since. Since, like, that time in my life. And then whatever. She was nervous. And then he was like, he can't miss shows. And then finally I, like, went up to him. I was like, I think. I think I can really make this work. He was like, okay, I'll let you. But it will be so difficult. And you will have a hard time going from here where people value you and going there where people. Where people will value. But it might feel frustrating because you're not, you know, you're not like, the star. You're not the star.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And I was like, no, I don't know. I think I got. And it was hard. Like, I fully had a mental breakdown.
Bowen Yang
Really?
Trisha Paytas
And. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Bowen Yang
What part of it? Just.
Trisha Paytas
Just the flying back and forth.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Just being alone for a lot of it. Even though I. Like, I had Ari and I had Ethan and I had, like, Cynthia and Bronwyn there. Like, it was. But it was this very. Like, I was dissociating. I was fully dissociating. I would, like, wake up in the middle of the night and be like, where am I? What am I doing here? What is my life? Like, who am I? How old? Like, I just would.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
Like, things about myself just fully left me. And then. I don't know. And then I just had to, like, get on meds.
Bowen Yang
I was gonna say. How did you get out of it? Was it. Did you.
Trisha Paytas
Matt and I had a whole fight about it. Like, Matt Rogers, my best friend, my.
Bowen Yang
Co host, he's on a Christmas tour right now.
Trisha Paytas
Yes. You guys are. You guys are. You guys are.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, I know. Because I wanted to see him, and I was like, oh, he's like, in Texas or something else.
Trisha Paytas
You'll cross paths. He's obsessed with you. I love him. And then.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, you guys had a Fight about?
Trisha Paytas
We had a fight. Just about. I felt like I was receding and I was like, I have no personality anymore. What's going on? I feel like I shouldn't do the podcast anymore. What am I bringing to the table? I was like, I think it's all you, babe. And not in a way of you're stepping on me or you're steamrolling me. I'm like, I think I'm okay leaving the podcast and it should just be you.
Bowen Yang
Oh, no.
Trisha Paytas
And he was like, no, no, no. And he was like, you need to actually, like, get real help. And I was like. Because I'd been in therapy for years, but I never, I'd never been medicated.
Bowen Yang
So this is your first time?
Trisha Paytas
My first time. It's Lexapro. It's like, it's not helped. Oh, my God. Change changed everything.
Bowen Yang
Therapy changes everything to, like, talking. I never did therapy until I was like 32 and it, like, changed my life. But yeah, that's good that you were, like, able to, like, he was able to recognize it for you because maybe you didn't, maybe you didn't, like, know because it's, it's interesting how like, the biggest things in your life was happening. Like, it's like the biggest movie, the biggest opportunity. You're on the biggest show on TV where you're like a star. Like, and then you're still feeling that way, which is like, I think so important to talk about because it's like I always sometimes think it too. Like, you have everything you ever wanted and then you're like, why am I? Like, it's like the Britney Spears lucky song. Like, why do these tears come at night?
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Bowen Yang
You know?
Trisha Paytas
Oh my gosh, she really ate with that.
Bowen Yang
Britney does eat.
Trisha Paytas
Britney does eat.
Bowen Yang
I had an hour long conversation and I won't say what, but at the after party, someone very close to Britney was there and I had this like, hour long conversation about her. Like, is she okay? Is she good? Like, I just want to make sure she's okay. And I'm like, I won't repeat. And I did. I won't. But I'm just like, I don't make sure she's good. Yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And then what's your. You don't have to repeat it, but what's your feeling like?
Bowen Yang
I think she's good. I think she's, you know, good. I think she, like, has, you know, issues, like everyone, but I think she's good.
Trisha Paytas
She just bought a house or something. I saw.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, we live super close. Like, we live, like, five minutes from each other, so. And I've seen her. I've seen her. And again, I don't really ever talk about. Say, like, I love. She's the ultimate parasocial, where I'm just like, I just want to, like, make sure. But I see her literally maybe like, once a month in our area. Of course, never say anything or bother her, but she always looks good, and she's like, queen. Love her so much.
Trisha Paytas
What was your relationship with Britney growing up?
Bowen Yang
I just, you know, wanted to be here. It's very much, like, wicked, right? You see Glinda on stage. Like, I want to be her. And I think that was, like, me with Britney.
Trisha Paytas
I was just like.
Bowen Yang
And kind of what you were saying, like, relatability, where it seemed like she was just like, you know, your friend, you know, and not someone, like, unattainable. You know, like, it's like, oh, I could be that person too. But that's. Yeah, she. She's queen. I know. Last night, it was like, who's who, by the way, at the SNL after parties, like, so many people come up and, like, obviously not even people, like, associate with snl, but it was so.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Bowen Yang
Saw Ben Platt, who I had met earlier in the year, who's like, he's my dream. I, like, met him, and Z way was there. I kind of get. I was. At this point, I was about to. I was, like, already, like, leaving. I honestly thought I was hallucinating when I saw her because I love her so much, and I was just like, oh, my God. Like, it was so weird. I was, like, touching her, like, face. I was just like, you're so beautiful.
Trisha Paytas
You guys, like, you guys are, like, so compatible.
Bowen Yang
Oh, she's so quick. And so I could never like her George Santos interview. I was just, like, so quick, so I could never be that. She's so iconic and so smart. But, yeah, it was fun for that. And all your friends were so wonderful. And then Asha's friend. I didn't know Asha was only, like, 25, too.
Trisha Paytas
Like, she's a baby.
Bowen Yang
And she, like, got to hired right off, like, college. I was like, oh, my God. So she's special, but I love that. That's why I love this, like, young crowd getting in, like, positions of power, because, like, you said, without her, I don't know if I'd have been on snl. So I love seeing these, like, young people who can appreciate me. And I'm like, oh, my God, thank you so much. That was cool. And Will, too. Will Being there too.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Will Stephen.
Bowen Yang
Yes. So it was really great. Speaking of your Wicked co star Jonathan Bailey, did you see the Grindr Sexiest Men list that just came out?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, did he? Was he the top?
Bowen Yang
Who do you think was the top? Where is my phone?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, I think sexiest. Oh, no, I think Pedro Pascal was the top.
Bowen Yang
Oh, did you see it?
Trisha Paytas
I think I saw that because they. Because Las Culturistas was number three. The first two. Number one and two was. Was. Both of Katya's podcasts was Trixie and Katya.
Bowen Yang
Oh, Grindr's top podcast. You guys were on the list.
Trisha Paytas
We were on the list. We were number three. And it was like, Caleb Herron, who's amazing, who records here, right? Yeah. Yes.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Caleb's here in New York. Yeah, New York and la. And Laikon.
Bowen Yang
Love him.
Trisha Paytas
Icon.
Bowen Yang
Did you just start his podcast too? And he's already on.
Trisha Paytas
I know. He's already in the top.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Pedro Pascal. Wait, are you pulling it up?
Bowen Yang
I have it. Yeah, I'm pulling it up right now. I. Okay. Yeah, this is. I just think Griner gets it because people's sexiest man was.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah. Who was?
Bowen Yang
John Krasinski.
Trisha Paytas
No, it was someone else. Was it John Krasinski? Okay. Yeah. People were mad.
Bowen Yang
I'm just always a little shook because I just think it's like, you know, with the relevancy of this year of either being Gladiator or Wicked, like, of course, like Jonathan Bailey or Pedro Pascal. So when it came out, Johnson, I was like, what? Wow. What do you think about it?
Trisha Paytas
What do I think about it?
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Is it weird if I don't have any thoughts about it?
Bowen Yang
No. That's probably normal.
Trisha Paytas
No, but I should.
Bowen Yang
I'm so mad. For what? Everyone's, like, so pissed about this.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. That's the issue, right? I'm like, wait a minute. Why are we. Why are we mad?
Bowen Yang
People just want to be mad. And I get it, too. I'm also obviously, have a podcast that I rant about things, so. People just love to be mad about things.
Trisha Paytas
So do I. And, like, literally, we built in. We build in ranting.
Bowen Yang
But, like, sometimes I'm like, it's really not that serious. But it was. You know, it's such an important issue for me that every year we talk about it that I was just like, last year was the strike, so. Okay. So they picked Patrick Dempsey. Cause everyone else was on strike. Okay. Cause he had, like, a loophole with Thanksgiving. So we're like, okay. But this year, I was like, but no one's on strike.
Trisha Paytas
No one's on strike. So what's the excuse? I guess Krasinski. Yeah. I don't know.
Bowen Yang
And they put him in, like, a sweater for his photo shoot. And I was like, this is not giving. Sexiest man.
Trisha Paytas
They go for, like. They go for, like, a seasoned guy. Like, a guy who's, like, a little bit wizened, has a couple. Like, has a few crow's feet.
Bowen Yang
I mean, there's lots of. Pedro Pascal is wizened, don't you think?
Trisha Paytas
No, he's wizened for sure.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. But is he number one?
Bowen Yang
So. Yeah. So number five. Okay. So number one is Pedro Pascal.
Trisha Paytas
Great.
Bowen Yang
Do you agree with that?
Trisha Paytas
Totally.
Bowen Yang
Over Jonathan Bailey?
Trisha Paytas
Well, that's tough. I mean, God. Because there's just different flavors of sexy.
Bowen Yang
I mean, Jonathan Bailey's universally the sexiest man alive to everybody, right?
Trisha Paytas
Totally.
Bowen Yang
Okay, so he should be number one. I mean, I love him. He's my hyper fixation. I'm kind of getting over it now because. You famous?
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Bowen Yang
Yeah. I feel like I was, like, finding. I mean, obviously Bridgetton's huge, but I was like, oh, I'm still in that niche area. Travelers. You know what I mean? But then you're just like, okay, well, everybody loves him now, so let's move on to the next person.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, is that how you feel?
Bowen Yang
You're like, well, no chance for me.
Trisha Paytas
No, no, you're just like, I need. It needs to feel more personal to you.
Bowen Yang
I think so. Yeah. So, yeah, it's very rare that I hyper fixate on someone, like, super famous. You know what I mean? So that's why I think the last one was the Weeknd in the Idol. I mean, he's super famous, but I was like, oh, no one liked the Idol. And I was, like, so into it. I loved it so much. Peter Pascal. I just don't. I mean, he's attractive. I don't. It doesn't do it for me.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Bowen Yang
Bad Bunny was number three.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, totally.
Bowen Yang
And Travis Kelce number four. You think?
Trisha Paytas
Okay, this is gonna sound so annoying, but I think all four or five of those.
Bowen Yang
There's one more. There's Jeremy Allen White at number five.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, so I haven't met Jeremy Allen White.
Bowen Yang
Oh, so you met four of the five?
Trisha Paytas
I met four of the five. And, like, there's just something about, like, in the room, y'all. It's.
Bowen Yang
Oh, that's right. You've been in the room with all of them.
Trisha Paytas
Something. Something, really something shifts. And Pedro, it's Like, well, yeah. And then, like, Pedro looks like, you know, like Clark Gable and Cary Grant. It's like he's giving something classic.
Bowen Yang
Oh, interesting.
Trisha Paytas
John Bailey is giving you, like, you know, like a cut. Rupert Everett kind of thing. Like this decade's version of like. Like a Rupert Everett, like, sexy British guy. Yeah, the bad bunny is just, like, pure, like, charisma and whatever. Like, all that. And then was. The fourth one was Travis Kelce. Travis Kelce, when he hosted snl, was before he'd won the super bowl, but before he dated Taylor. And he came in, and I was just like, oh, who's this guy? Like, I don't really follow football. He seems like a decent guy and whatever. And then he comes in and he's just like. Just, like, gives you prom king energy. So it's just. These are all different types of hot, to me, that are all valid.
Bowen Yang
Okay, so they're giving plural hotness for each Plural.
Trisha Paytas
No, but.
Bowen Yang
Okay.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Do you want my ranking?
Bowen Yang
Yeah, I do.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God.
Bowen Yang
It doesn't even have to be from them. But your top five. What's your people's sexiest man? What's Bowen? Sexiest man Alive.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, I'm gonna say. I'll put Jon. I'll put Jonathan Bailey up there for sure.
Bowen Yang
And you met him?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, we had a little.
Bowen Yang
We flirted with him on screen.
Trisha Paytas
Flirted with him on screen. He's. Wait, he's just like. He's just a good guy. Like, my thing is. This is my thing. If I see a hot person, I, like, I don't shut it down. I just. Part of me goes, that's off limits.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Like, that's not for me. That's for someone else.
Bowen Yang
That's how I felt when I saw you for real. I was like. I did. I was like. I, Like, I was, like, so flustered. I was just like, honestly, I will put you above Jonathan Bailey now.
Trisha Paytas
No way.
Bowen Yang
I'm not just saying that. I'm not just saying that because, like, you're, like.
Trisha Paytas
You're going back to your trolling days. This is Andy Kaufman.
Bowen Yang
No, I promise you. You know, I feel like. You know, I was, like, so flustered. It was. I kept, like, saying, like, oh, my God, you're gorgeous. Your skin, like, what are you doing? Like, I was actually so enamored. I'm still like, that, like, even right now. And I was like, so you know how Jonathan Bailey comes across where he's, like, so charming to everyone? Like, you actually, like, are that person, and your skin is actually, like, Glowing and stuff like that. You know, everything about you. And I was just like. And then I met your trainer, and he was talking about your body, and I was like. I noticed in the pirate sketch, like, your shirt came and you were, like, doing. You were like, the one dancing. I was like. And that put the. Dancing through life moves to shame. I was like, honestly.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, stop, that's way better.
Bowen Yang
Like, you should have been Fiero.
Trisha Paytas
Honestly, shut your mouth. We were all. Literally, me and Sarah Sherman were just like. And just everybody. We're just like. I mean, Trisha's the most beautiful person. Mesmerizing. Just your face. You get you.
Bowen Yang
No, no, I. I don't. I actually am very insecure, but I try to put it aside.
Trisha Paytas
So am I. Yeah, but you are.
Bowen Yang
Thank you.
Trisha Paytas
You are so stunning.
Bowen Yang
Well, it's not like you. You're like a little 10 doll.
Trisha Paytas
Are we going to have sex?
Bowen Yang
Yeah, we're going to. We're going to. Honestly, I am so. Oh, my God. If I wasn't married, I'd be like, absolutely. Absolutely. Wait, have you. Is this too personal? Have you been with a girl?
Trisha Paytas
I've never been with a girl.
Bowen Yang
Okay.
Trisha Paytas
No.
Bowen Yang
Have you never. Like, we're like, maybe.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, I would totally do it.
Bowen Yang
Really? Because I, like, I don't know. I obviously don't know. I do consider myself, like, obviously queer, but, like, I didn't know. Like, I had to, like, try it. But I guess some people just know. They're like, no, I, like, some people know exactly. Like, I'm. I'm hetero. I'm gay. But to me, I, like, didn't know. I was like, I should probably try everything. You know what I mean? To know when I still kind of don't. I'm like, well, I kind of like everything.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. But to know from experience, that feels like it's the extra, like, under pinning or whatever.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, yeah. Like what type of girl I liked and stuff like that. You know what I mean? Like, did I like the dolls or do I like. You know. CIS women I didn't know. So I was, like, trying everything, so I wondered if you were like, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I guess I have no. I should. I should just expand the palate. But I am like, yeah. I feel like it's. It's all open.
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Even though it's theoretical. But I am going to say, okay, which do you want? My father. Five?
Bowen Yang
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Jonathan Bailey. I'm gonna say. I'll say. Pedro.
Bowen Yang
Wow. You're putting them at the top two.
Trisha Paytas
Of all the men. Okay. And then Third, Stephen Yun.
Bowen Yang
Who's Steven Yeun.
Trisha Paytas
He. He was in. Nope. He was in. Oh.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yes.
Trisha Paytas
He was in Minari. Like, hunky guy, Just a.
Bowen Yang
God.
Trisha Paytas
Just met him. This is tough. I'm like, locked eye, not locked eyes. We met. We met at a play and I don't know, we've just, like, we. He's been so sweet to me. I. This is the thing. It's like, by the way, if any of these men are listening to this, like, I hope it's not weird the.
Bowen Yang
Next time you see Jonathan Bailey, the next Wicked and be like, oh, hey, he probably knows everyone finds him attractive. That's the other thing. Why had I, like, step off, I'm like, okay, everyone thinks you're hot. Like, not me. You know what I mean? Yeah, exactly.
Trisha Paytas
And then I don't know. 4 and 5. Damn. I don't know.
Bowen Yang
John Krasinski. How about on the cast? Who's your sexiest man on the SNL current cast?
Trisha Paytas
You know, lotta hunks on the cast.
Bowen Yang
Lots. They're all very sweet, too.
Trisha Paytas
So sweet. I'm gonna say, God, I have a little crush on. I have a little crush on Andrew Dismukes. He knows that. He's so sweet. But then, wow.
Bowen Yang
Sexiest. I love that.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, I might remember Marcelo, James Michael. But Devin, so cute, honestly. And he knows this because I think he's just started and he's brand new. But Emile, I think it's universal that.
Bowen Yang
Everyone'S like, that guy's hot.
Trisha Paytas
But I need to hear it more because I think I hear the air sort of leave the room. If I'm watching in my dressing room with my guests, everyone's like, wait, who's that guy? I'm like, oh, he just started.
Bowen Yang
That's so funny. Like, he's got the swag.
Trisha Paytas
He's got it.
Bowen Yang
There's a lot of that snl. Like, a lot of, like. Though I was a lot about a lot of the women, and they're all like, wait, who's that? Who's that? You know, a lot of that. I was like, I'm so glad, like, honestly, that I wasn't, like, single like snl, because I feel like I would have just probably tried to, like, flirt with every single person. You know what I mean? Because everyone is. It is kind of this, like, wow. I would say the one that, like, striked me the most, which I, like, didn't get until I met him, was.
Trisha Paytas
No. Who? Oh, Marcel. Marcelo. Such a low.
Bowen Yang
Because you were so sweet. You're like, oh, walk her up to the stage. And he like had his arm. It wasn't on camera, but he like had his arm. And I was like walking arm and arm with him, like, oh my God, this is so sweet. And he's like, he's one of the biggest breakouts right now because of Domingo, obviously, which is how Jimmy Fallon who we talked about earlier, I remember he like, his agent emailed me and was like, oh, he wrote the Domingo sketch. I was like, oh my God, I want to meet him. You know what I mean? Because it is quite amazing. So he was one that I, you know, because he's very bro y. Last night's show was very bro y.
Trisha Paytas
Totally.
Bowen Yang
You know, we were watching it because all the girls in my dressing room and we're like, I think this like bro humor until the gladiator. Wicked. At the end, I'm like, okay, that was good. You know what I mean? We're like, I don't know if this is for us because it's like, it was so bro y. But that's Marcelo too. He gives me bro y vibes. And so I was like, I don't know. But then when I saw him, I was like, oh, he's like pretty cute.
Trisha Paytas
No, totally.
Bowen Yang
I think everyone thinks he's cute. Maybe he's gonna date Sabrina Carpenter.
Trisha Paytas
My God. Who knows? Who's to say?
Bowen Yang
So who's your fifth then? So now that was fourth from cast in your final one.
Trisha Paytas
Oh my God. Emil is in there. Yeah, sure.
Bowen Yang
Top, sexiest.
Trisha Paytas
So handsome.
Bowen Yang
I'm so handsome.
Trisha Paytas
This will get back to him. And then gonna be awkward when you.
Bowen Yang
Go in on Tuesday.
Trisha Paytas
It's fine. I think we can all go. It's not gonna be a thing where like, yeah, no.
Bowen Yang
No one's trying to date him.
Trisha Paytas
No one. No one needs to go up to the 14th floor and talk to HR.
Bowen Yang
Ah, that's so interesting. I never think about stuff like that cuz I'm online. So I'm just like, call everyone hot. And I'm like, maybe. I guess you're not.
Trisha Paytas
No, it's. It's totally fine.
Bowen Yang
Cuz when I say look at like Oscar make you're so hot. And I'm like, maybe I will say that to someone that you like. You pay.
Trisha Paytas
Oscar is so handsome.
Bowen Yang
He's very handsome.
Trisha Paytas
Very handsome. Number five. Give me a second.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, it has to be a good one. Cause it's like your favorite.
Trisha Paytas
I know. It has to be a great one. Oh God. And it has to be like a celebrity. So. Yeah.
Bowen Yang
So someone Knows. I mean, you can give me, like, Joe or something, but it's Joe.
Trisha Paytas
No, it's. It's. It's. Oh, God. Oh, God.
Bowen Yang
I can't believe you don't have a roster. I have 5,000 mannequins.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I mean. I mean, give me one.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Now I'm, like, nervous.
Trisha Paytas
Like, now I'm like, okay, we're both on the spot. So, Emma, do you have. Do you have Colin Farrell?
Bowen Yang
Oh.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, totally.
Bowen Yang
That's like John Krasinski to me. Like, very, like, 2012.
Trisha Paytas
Right, right.
Bowen Yang
I love it, though.
Trisha Paytas
Who's someone more. Oh, you know what I'm gonna say.
Bowen Yang
Who's, like, a current hottie?
Trisha Paytas
I was gonna say, like, Josh O'Connor, who I didn't get until Challengers.
Bowen Yang
Oh, I would counter that with Mike Feist. I know Mike Feist. So as far as theater men go, I always got the Ethan Slater thing before when people used to, like, hate on him back then. Now everyone loves him, of course, thankfully. But, like, even back in the day when he was getting hate when, like, no one knew, whatever, I always was at Ethan Slater, Stan. I'm like, he is. What are you guys talking about? He's so cute. So talented. When he did what, was it something. Was it something rotten? No. Spamalot.
Trisha Paytas
Spamalot. So good.
Bowen Yang
And everyone was like, you know, I'm like, you don't understand. Like, that's the theater boy energy that everyone, like, gags over. That straight boy, like Christian Borrell. Like, yes, yes. And so I always been like that for Ethan Slater. I was always like, absolutely.
Trisha Paytas
He is. Look like. And also, he is jacked under that shirt. So that's something. That's a little piece of meat for you jackals.
Bowen Yang
How do you see that?
Trisha Paytas
I don't.
Bowen Yang
Shirtless on set.
Trisha Paytas
Just like, there was one. Oh, my God. This is a gag. Okay. This is breaking news.
Bowen Yang
Love it.
Trisha Paytas
This is a Judge Trish exclusive.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. Thank you.
Trisha Paytas
They shot a whole montage between Popular and the. So after Popular, it goes into, like, Elphaba doing her toss toss. And then Fiero's like, you've been Glendified. And then they go to class. And then.
Bowen Yang
That was good.
Trisha Paytas
And then, Dylan, I love your Fiero.
Bowen Yang
I got really good.
Trisha Paytas
No, that was not my Fiero.
Bowen Yang
That was good. You're like.
Trisha Paytas
And then Dillman gets dragged off, like. And then the poppies. Everyone falls asleep between those scenes. They shot a whole montage just to try to show the audience that, like, oh, these are all friends now. Fiero Galinda, Eliphaba, Nessa and Bach. The five of them running around in the fields. In the fields, hanging out. So the reason why Elphaba has all those poppies is because they cut a thing where they're in a poppy field and they pick flowers and they're just laughing, having a great time. But then there was one moment and there's like paparazzi shots of this. Cause they had a shoot in like a park in London of them hanging out. And then like there's a scene where like it's Bach and Fiero, Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater, like ripping their shirts off.
Bowen Yang
For the movie or just for the movie. Oh my God, I love it.
Trisha Paytas
And so like you were supposed to see like Jonathan Bailey in his full shirtless glory, like flexing and then Bach in the story and the movie, in the story of the movie, just being like insecure and wanting to like, you know, look hot too, like take a shirt off. But then it's like, oh, wait, but Ethan, Ethan's got a great body.
Bowen Yang
Yeah, you're like, actually it's always a sneaky hot. Oh my God. Wait, why did they cut that?
Trisha Paytas
I think it's because it's a 2 hour, 45 minute.
Bowen Yang
I think people would have loved a 3 hour movie if that was included. That's what people wanted.
Trisha Paytas
Like what? Yeah, so.
Bowen Yang
Oh my God.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, that's breaking news. I don't think, I don't think I might get in trouble for saying that, but no, I don't. It's fine.
Bowen Yang
It's.
Trisha Paytas
The movie's out. It's fine.
Bowen Yang
It's already filmed.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, it's already filmed.
Bowen Yang
Oh my God, that's crazy because that scene is always like those clips are. The images from it is everywhere. And everyone's like, oh, it's a flashback from part two. But that was supposed to be in part one.
Trisha Paytas
I think that was supposed to be in part 1. And then there's other stuff that's been like paparazzi. That will obviously be.
Bowen Yang
I look at that picture up. Oh my God, no. Ethan Slater. He really has. I've said it from the beginning. I love it. He's getting the recognition. But would you ever do well, because you can't really do Broadway because I think of you as Fiero. You could be Fiero on Broadway, but terrible Fiero, you would be so good. Can you give a little Fiero, like line or singing. You can't do that. You remember that one? He's like dancing your love. I loved it so much. I feel like you Could.
Trisha Paytas
You're wearing the pants. These are not the pants.
Bowen Yang
They're kind of piero pants.
Trisha Paytas
I'm gonna give you two words, okay? Okay. You say, that would be the Ausdas Ballroom.
Bowen Yang
Oh, that would be the USDAs ballroom.
Trisha Paytas
Sounds perfect.
Bowen Yang
You know what? Did he.
Trisha Paytas
Now I have a Charlie horse.
Bowen Yang
Did he not hang out in the movie? Are you okay?
Trisha Paytas
I think I'm great. I'm great.
Bowen Yang
Did you really have a Charlie horse? Those are the worst. You can't walk.
Trisha Paytas
Can't walk.
Bowen Yang
Up in your thigh.
Trisha Paytas
Up in my thigh. So that's not. A Charlie horse is in your cap.
Bowen Yang
See, it's like, so much sexual tension on my. It's up here. I was like, don't show me your upper thigh. It's wild.
Trisha Paytas
It's crazy.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my gosh.
Trisha Paytas
Yep.
Bowen Yang
I'm still.
Trisha Paytas
I don't think I did.
Bowen Yang
He didn't say, that's perfect.
Trisha Paytas
He didn't say, that's perfect.
Bowen Yang
Wow.
Trisha Paytas
Sounds perfect. I don't know. But then he took celebrities perfect.
Bowen Yang
That's right. It's like, where's the swankified place? And, yeah, like, that's sounds perfect. That's such an iconic line. I'm so sad he didn't say it.
Trisha Paytas
Me, too. But, you know, my favorite line in that same moment is Glinda going in the movie. Ari going, I love helping others. Like, I think.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Funniest.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yeah. No, she was iconic. I mean, so funny.
Trisha Paytas
I still don't have a fifth guy for you, so.
Bowen Yang
Okay, we just said that made me think of Ethan Slater. We just talked about a theater guy that I was like, I love straight theater guy.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, Christian.
Bowen Yang
No, we saw Christian Boerbell before that.
Trisha Paytas
Christian Borle. Wait, you said something.
Bowen Yang
Said something that sparked my. Ethan Slater. Like, straight boy, theater boy.
Trisha Paytas
That's the way someone in theater, maybe.
Bowen Yang
Anyway, nobody could be anything.
Trisha Paytas
It has to be, like, a gay guy.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. That's my. Okay, can I say that's my grievance with people. Sexiest man. They've never had a gay man or. Yeah. A queer man or anything by.
Trisha Paytas
I know.
Bowen Yang
Asexuals. Nothing. I was just like, gay men. I've said this on my Twitter, like, statistically, are, like, the hottest people in every. No, but you know what I mean? Like, there's been. Every single, like, year there's been a hot gay man. Like, I. My. My first gay crush was I. By the way, I've only loved gay men. Like, I have such crushes. Martin. I remember being like, I love him so much. Who, Ricky Martin.
Trisha Paytas
Ricky Martin.
Bowen Yang
Why was he not sexy? Man alive. During, like, live in the video, I'm.
Trisha Paytas
Gonna say Ricky Martin.
Bowen Yang
That's my fifth Ricky Martin now. Or Ricky Martin then.
Trisha Paytas
Any era of Ricky Martin. Because watching Paul Morale, I was like. And then we did. We did a round. We did a Hollywood Reporter roundtable together last year. And I was like. And he was so sweet. He said the nicest things to me, and I felt like he was proposing to me.
Bowen Yang
Is he single?
Trisha Paytas
No, but he.
Bowen Yang
That's how I feel with you. I was like, are you proposing? You're being so nice. And I was like, wow, this feels like recording.
Trisha Paytas
Ricky Martin's my.
Bowen Yang
Wow. Ricky Martin's pretty high up there. But, like, how did people sexy man not name him? I don't know. Homophobic, I think, honestly, like, how do you not put, like, one gay man as likely? Especially Jonathan Bailey. This is his year. I was like, I don't understand this.
Trisha Paytas
At all, but he has. He's gonna be in the new Jurassic Park. I think he's gonna. I think it's like rocket ship. He.
Bowen Yang
You know, they named him as People magazine, given the titles the Sexiest Fiero. Only one.
Trisha Paytas
And also, like, like, there have been so many hot Fieros.
Bowen Yang
That's true.
Trisha Paytas
It's like, you can't.
Bowen Yang
Adam Lambert was a very hot.
Trisha Paytas
Adam Lambert was a hot Fiero. Nick Adams is a hot Fiero.
Bowen Yang
Oh, yes.
Trisha Paytas
A lot of great Fieros.
Bowen Yang
Ashley Angel Parker from, like, OT was Fiero.
Trisha Paytas
Ashley Angel Parker was Fiero.
Bowen Yang
And the Pantages, when I saw it. Yeah, he was so good. I love a white panel.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, white pan.
Bowen Yang
You need to do it. Can you just, like, go in for a night, like, on an off night?
Trisha Paytas
Matt Rotters would be a great Fiero. I would be a great Bach.
Bowen Yang
No.
Trisha Paytas
Yes. Yes, yes, yes.
Bowen Yang
That's so not true.
Trisha Paytas
No, I would love to be Bach.
Bowen Yang
But you're not. You're a Fiero.
Trisha Paytas
No, Trish, you're like, me being, like, mine.
Bowen Yang
I'd be a great Madam Orble. But I should be Glinda, like, in a Broadway. Not in the movie, obviously, but, like.
Trisha Paytas
You would be an amazing.
Bowen Yang
I mean, I'm like, 36. I did love to see everyone age up a little bit in this movie. I mean, I know Part two, they, like, age up anyways. But I did love that because you remember when Ben Platt played Evan Hansen, everyone gave him 27 playing high schooler. I was like, okay. But, like, whatever. He originated the role. Like, he was the best for it, you know? So I Did, like, that everyone was, like, age again. I know. And, like.
Trisha Paytas
No, totally. I know what you mean, but was it. What were we saying?
Bowen Yang
Your fear on Broadway. And then you said, you're Bach and.
Trisha Paytas
I'm Bach, and then before that.
Bowen Yang
I know. We're all over the place. I was also thinking because, like, Little Shop is doing, like, so many stunt casting. It's. God, I wish you could be Seymour and I could be Audrey.
Trisha Paytas
Wait. Oh, my God. He would be amazing. Wait.
Bowen Yang
I don't want to do it with you.
Trisha Paytas
I would die.
Bowen Yang
Can we do it for, like, one night? Yeah. I'm seeing it tonight, and I'm just like, this guy I met at Wicked, actually, one of the people who do social media for A Little Shop, and he's like, oh, my God, you should come in. And I was like, but they always have a great Seymour. And I was like, I just want Bonyang to be the Seymour.
Trisha Paytas
I would be so thrilled to play Seymour.
Bowen Yang
Maybe for, like, a night.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Bowen Yang
Can you memorize a show for a night?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Base. It's basically snl. You do it for one night only, Right. It's really rough around the edges. This is the thing about snl, too, that people should understand. We have two days to rehearse it, so it's gonna be. It's gonna be a little rough. And that's the beauty. It has to be serrated. It's not gonna be a cleaned up, sanitized version of something that goes through a million rounds of edits and, like, network notes and exec notes and studio notes. It's like, this is literally from the bottom up and not the top down. And that's the beauty of the show.
Bowen Yang
And that's. Yeah, that's why people like it. And it's so fun. And it was the biggest rush in my life. It was like, one in the morning where we're done, and I was, like, so hyped.
Trisha Paytas
No, you're. You're high on adrenaline.
Bowen Yang
It's crazy. And the energy there, like, everybody is excited. Like, everybody. I met the nurse, Teresa. We met each other multiple times at Donny Osmond.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Bowen Yang
Yeah. In Vegas. She's like, oh, I've seen you a couple times at the Donny Osmond meet and greet. We do the VIP together. And I was like, wait, that's so crazy. So she came up.
Trisha Paytas
She's an angel.
Bowen Yang
Love her. But, yeah, everyone, energy. Like, everybody is just, like, so excited to be there. And it's like, really?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Bowen Yang
Really amazing. And it was the best time. I had one more Thing before we go. Wait and it'll come to you.
Trisha Paytas
It'll come to you. Yeah, it'll come to you. Was it snl? Wicked.
Bowen Yang
It was about snl York.
Trisha Paytas
You should come here more often. I can't believe the last time you heard was five years ago.
Bowen Yang
No, it was. It was five years ago. No, I want to come back. I would love to be here, like part time or something. It's just so much fun. And I just, like, love you. Now I have a friend. I didn't know anyone in New York before. We're here and now it's just like, we're here.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Bowen Yang
I had a really great ending now, and now I'm like, so sad.
Trisha Paytas
No problem. We'll do it. Doing a lost culture. You gotta come on.
Bowen Yang
Yeah. When are you guys doing that again? Are you guys.
Trisha Paytas
We are gonna take a little break until the new year.
Bowen Yang
But then, I mean, you just have a less guest. How do you, like, keep up with that? That's like wild. It's like Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande. It's like, you can't. How do you. You can't go up from there.
Trisha Paytas
Yes, you can.
Bowen Yang
Absolutely. I feel like at that point, I'm like, oh, my God. I'd be too stressed trying to.
Trisha Paytas
No, no way.
Bowen Yang
New people.
Trisha Paytas
It's. Everybody's welcome.
Bowen Yang
Las Cauteries says, check it out.
Trisha Paytas
Check it out.
Bowen Yang
I love. I'm like, check out their snl, like, you know, and it's like, well, we already watched it. Yeah, it's a good little show. Check out Wicked.
Trisha Paytas
Check out Wicked.
Bowen Yang
If you have promoing on Jester, she did not need that promo, but thank you. Honestly, this was like the highlight of my whole life. And you just.
Trisha Paytas
I wouldn't have missed this for the world. I could not have asked for a better way to spend my Sunday after.
Bowen Yang
A show, which is so nice. And you skipped your haircut for this.
Trisha Paytas
I feel like I skipped my haircut. It can wait.
Bowen Yang
Oh, my God. It was. I can't believe when you came down here, I didn't know how, like, far it was and you came. Came down this way and I just. I love you more than anything. And thanks for having me on.
Trisha Paytas
Of course.
Bowen Yang
Like, it's Bo and Yang, everybody. I'm so excited. Thank you.
Trisha Paytas
Thanks, Trish.
