When you audition for Wicked, can you talk about it or no?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I auditioned for it.
Trisha Paytas
You auditioned and you got far. You said you got double callback. So you consider yourself, like, open or hetero or fluid or, like, just hetero. Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Love, love, love.
Spencer Sutherland
What's hetero again?
Trisha Paytas
Her name is Trish. She's got the mission all across. Filthy rich, pretty and pink, Hot Topic queen and says what everybody thinks. She's just. Hey, guys. Welcome back to the Gestures podcast. I am so excited. This guest today has been all over my TikTok for you page. He's bringing glam rock back. Honestly, male version of me, I'd like to say, with a little more talent. The one and only Spencer Sutherland.
Spencer Sutherland
Thank you for having me.
Trisha Paytas
I'm so excited. I.
Spencer Sutherland
That was a hell of an intro, and I really appreciate it.
Trisha Paytas
My intros are getting better. People would always be like, you have to introduce the person coming on. I usually just start talking and I was like, okay, let me try an intro.
Spencer Sutherland
So it was very kind, and I'm just. I'm happy to be here. So thanks for having.
Trisha Paytas
I'm so excited. I love musicians. I love talented singers.
Spencer Sutherland
Then it's not me.
Trisha Paytas
So there's so many reasons I'm happier here from your new album, which I'm so excited about. Elvis and Wicked. I mean, it's really just the trinity for me, you know, it's like everything that I love.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm the Trinity.
Trisha Paytas
You are the Trinity. You are everything. I wish I was.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, get out of here. Yeah. We do have a lot in common in all those things too, because I know that. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Which is crazy, first being we're both Midwest people. You're from Ohio. I'm from Illinois.
Spencer Sutherland
Where in Illinois?
Trisha Paytas
Rockford, Illinois. It's like northern Illinois. We used to drive to Cleveland. My dad's from Cleveland. Shout out Lakewood, Ohio. And we would drive, like, eight hours to Cleveland. Through Indiana.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Go through Gary, Indiana.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Go through the Duncan. And I love Midwest people.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I feel like there's a lot of Ohio in general, but, like, Midwest and la and I feel like they all kind of find each other.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. You Kind of know they're just like, nice people, you know, you're like, oh, you're really nice. And they're like, oh, I'm always from the Midwest. Which is, like, kind of cool. Yeah, but I thought you were European. That's what I was telling you. Like, you look.
Spencer Sutherland
And I told you, darling, I am.
Trisha Paytas
That's a good British accent.
Spencer Sutherland
No, my British accent goes to really get into it. I've just gotta do Jack Sparrow and gets really into it. Needs some rum, you know what I mean?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, it's a little drunk accent, too. Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
Yes, it is. The drunk helps me hit everything from the tequila shots.
Trisha Paytas
And then you can do the British. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I did nine before this interview right now.
Trisha Paytas
Did you actually? Cause you're like, you just gotta do a couple tequila shots. I'm like, do you do that that early?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it's fine. Everything's fine. No, I'm kidding. Too early.
Trisha Paytas
Too early for Too early.
Spencer Sutherland
I have done an interview with a tequila shop before, but I think it was like 5pm oh, my gosh.
Trisha Paytas
I can't do tequila. Cause I'll literally be on my.
Spencer Sutherland
This episode is gonna be really unhinged because I already, like, one minute in know that we just start going on tangents.
Trisha Paytas
Yes. Nothing is directed. I have notes, but nothing is directed. I kind of just go with the flow.
Spencer Sutherland
I love that.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
It's so much fun.
Trisha Paytas
I'm so excited. I feel like you are. Seriously. I've told you this, like, all over my. For your page. I just kept seeing you over and over. Specifically, that's one like this one where it's like, you know, born in the wrong era. It's like, I like the lick of a cigarette, but I hate the way all over. Just constantly. The algorithm really favors you. What's the secret?
Spencer Sutherland
You just gotta pay TikTok a lot of money. I'm kidding. No, I think, like, I found one that, like, this whole social media journey for me has, like, genuinely changed my life. Like, for real. Flipped it on his head. A couple of years ago, I started doing, like, covers, and those would go viral. And then I did open verse challenges, and those would go viral. And. Which is, like, great. But last year, my original stuff started kind of, like, taking off, and that was. It's. It's. It's much different, you know, because you're not just like, that guy's a good singer to, like. I like this guy's music and his catalog and everything.
Trisha Paytas
Right.
Spencer Sutherland
And that song, the Drama song in particular, I just found a formula that Worked for the people that wanted to listen that kind of music. And I just started posting a billion videos using the sound over and over. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I probably posted 35 times before it was even out.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
It's a weird. It's a weird. And it's like a weird game now.
Trisha Paytas
It's so odd to see it because I'm like. To me, it was always like, who is this person? Because you look like you could be like a tribute band like Queen, but it's also like you're. You know. Cause it sounds Queen. Yeah. Are you?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
A cover band. Could you imagine just a Moonlighting? I mean, I love it. There is one.
Spencer Sutherland
You know what I would do is love Adam Lambert. Big fan. Love how he sings for Queen. I would. Whenever he's done, let me know.
Trisha Paytas
Would you do it?
Spencer Sutherland
I would do a whole tour with him. Hell, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
I mean, like, Freddie is like on my. Is on my Mount Rushmore.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Like, Queen is on my Mount Rushmore music, for sure.
Trisha Paytas
Did you ever get to audition for the movie?
Spencer Sutherland
No. I'm like, not 10 inches too tall for Freddie Martinez.
Trisha Paytas
Was he short?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, he's a small man. Also, no one's gonna beat Rami.
Trisha Paytas
Good thing. I think he was the best.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I heard Sacha Baron Cohen was up for it too.
Spencer Sutherland
That would've been interesting.
Trisha Paytas
Such a different movie, though.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. He just pranks everybody the whole time.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah. Probably would not hit. I'm so fascinated. Cause you are an actor. I wanna talk more about your music, but I wanna talk about the acting. Cause the first thing, when he came in, I was like, hide all the Wicked stuff. But then you said you just saw Wicked. So I was like, ooh, let me talk about it.
Spencer Sutherland
Wait, why hide it?
Trisha Paytas
Well, because you were on this list. And this is again, before I even put two and two together, they put out the list, the short list of people who were gonna be Fiero Bach. Like, the people who got all the callbacks. And you were on it.
Spencer Sutherland
I was.
Trisha Paytas
Have you not seen these lists or. No, you know, I'm not really sure.
Spencer Sutherland
It'S a joke anymore.
Trisha Paytas
I don't know.
Spencer Sutherland
I have seen them. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I mean, it's like a list. It's like Joe Jonas. It's like the biggest name.
Spencer Sutherland
Crazy.
Trisha Paytas
And your name was on there. And again, I knew you from TikTok, but the name wasn't like, computing for me. Obviously, it's a great name, but it wasn't like computing. And I was like, wait, so When I was doing my research yesterday, I was like, oh, my gosh. You've been on, like, this list that I've been seeing everywhere for Fiero.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Like those, like, Pop Crave lists or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Which I love. Which is how I actually knew you were a big deal. Cause Pop Crave tweeted your drama album, and I was like, wait, dude, that was so cool. Yeah, that's huge.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, that was very random.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, they love you.
Spencer Sutherland
Really, really cool.
Trisha Paytas
That gives you mainstream. But when you audition for Wicked, can you talk about it or no? Are you having to sign NDA or maybe.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't remember if I did or not, but, I mean, yeah, I auditioned for it.
Trisha Paytas
You auditioned and you got far? You said you got double callback.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I'm not really sure. Like, you don't really know how close you are, you know?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Cause, like, it feels like you're really close, and then sometimes there's 50 people in front of you, and that's close. And I think there was a lot of people that were up for Fiero, because in my opinion, I was like, I wonder which way they're gonna go, if they're gonna go super Broadway or, like, maybe I'm just, like, auditioning. Because they were like, let's see if it was, like, more rock and roll or something interesting.
Trisha Paytas
That would have been. I was surprised.
Spencer Sutherland
This is all speculation, everybody. This is, like, I have no idea.
Trisha Paytas
Well, even when Jonathan Bailey was announced, I wasn't familiar with him at first, and I was like, oh, that's so.
Spencer Sutherland
God, he was great.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. So you watched it. You saw it last night, and you do love it.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, he. I mean, so good.
Trisha Paytas
So good.
Spencer Sutherland
Also, like, I can't dance like that. I mean, I could, but it would take a lot of training.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, he, like, trained in ballet and stuff as a kid. Like, he was amazing. So you auditioned. Did you get to do. You don't have to say who, but you got to screen test with?
Spencer Sutherland
I would be more of a still Fiero. I would be like a couple jabs and kicks, but less.
Trisha Paytas
That would be an interesting fear of just not dancing through life.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I was not dancing through much of life. You know, that's the coolest part is when he slid on the book.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. And he did it himself, they said.
Spencer Sutherland
Really?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Ariana and Cynthia were like, yeah, he did that all his own dancing stunts.
Spencer Sutherland
Okay. Also, Cynthia's voice just absolutely tore me up inside.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. No, that's, like, made me cry. Do you cry?
Spencer Sutherland
I don't Cry hardly at all.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And I tear. And the only part of the movie that I teared up is when the Goat professor.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah. Dr. Dillinger.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, Dillinger.
Trisha Paytas
Dilliman Dilleman. I'm the biggest Wicked fan. So everyone's gonna be like, trisha. Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. When he runs into the desk and knocks over the flower vase, and then he said, you have one friend. Peter Dinklage puts out his hoof. And it's just. It honestly, like, really made me emotional. I was like, I know.
Trisha Paytas
I feel like it's, like, the best story of, like, acceptance. I love it so much. So what did you sing with? What did you audition with?
Spencer Sutherland
What did I sing? I sang Dancing through life. I sang that and I sang.
Trisha Paytas
So you had to sing all the Fiero songs?
Spencer Sutherland
As long as you're mine.
Trisha Paytas
I made We Were that for Halloween this year. I made him learn the lyrics. Yeah. He does not sing at all. But I was always like, can you please learn this song? It's my favorite one.
Spencer Sutherland
I wasn't really as familiar with Wicked stuff. I knew what it was, and then I listened to the songs. I was like, these hit. My favorite song is Just One Day in the Emerald City.
Trisha Paytas
That's my favorite, too. In Act 1. That's one of my favorite underrated songs.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. It's amazing. It's like the dancing and then the cameos. Who? I won't say who. But so great. Like, so fantastic.
Trisha Paytas
Have you seen the stage production?
Spencer Sutherland
No. I know. I know. It was very new to me. Like, we sang in choir in high school. We sang for good, like, in choir. So I know every word of that song.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, but you didn't know the show.
Spencer Sutherland
Nope. No idea what it's from. I just knew we would sing it, like, in choir when the seniors would go, like, at the end of the year, like, because I knew you.
Trisha Paytas
I have been changed.
Spencer Sutherland
Kind of cheesy.
Trisha Paytas
I love it so much. That song is so good. Everything about Wicked, so great. Would you do Broadway?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes. I've almost done a couple Broadway things.
Trisha Paytas
What happened? You just didn't want to do it?
Spencer Sutherland
One conflicted with touring.
Trisha Paytas
Oh.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, two tours in particular. And unfortunately, right now, I'm choosing kind of music.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Over the acting.
Trisha Paytas
Really? Cause you're so good. You've done a Netflix movie.
Spencer Sutherland
How'd you know?
Trisha Paytas
Afterlife of the Party.
Spencer Sutherland
Did you watch any scenes from it?
Trisha Paytas
I did watch any scenes, and you look so different. Wait, that's so interesting, though. You change your look to act.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I mean, depending. I try to keep it as close as possible. But yeah, it's a little more toned down, probably.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Cause it's a very specific part to play.
Trisha Paytas
Well, that was a singer, so you probably didn't have to stretch yourself too much. But it was fun.
Spencer Sutherland
And those were my actual bell bottom pants. I wore them into the fitting, and they were like, well, these are cooler than the ones that we have.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Also, men's pants suck now.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. You know, shop in the women's department.
Spencer Sutherland
Can you tell?
Trisha Paytas
I love it. I love it. Oh, my God. The flare pants. I tried flare today. The problem is I can't walk. They, like, literally, like, come in the way.
Spencer Sutherland
Those are really big flares.
Trisha Paytas
I tried to find the biggest for you. I was like, how am I gonna wear these big flares?
Spencer Sutherland
Well, I even said before this started, like, I would wear this exact outfit on stage. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
No, your style is so cool. Like, everything about it, the way you, like, perform, but you didn't always have the style. Like, I found out your X Factor audition. You saw that X Factor uk, we. This is, like, so much lore to you. That's what's, like, so crazy. Cause again, I have a lot of lore, and it goes so deep, and there's so many different, like, you's. You know what I mean?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes. Yeah. I had a hard time figuring that out, like, who I was, you know, stylistically, musically, personality wise, really. And I think, like, that X Factor time in particular, if you look at my, like, faux hawk and my long tee, my tight jeans, like, rips and everything, it was what the pop boys of 2018 were doing. So I was like, oh, that's what I'm supposed to do is do this and sing and not use my full voice. Just sing kind of nasally. And then TikTok was a big part of me figuring it out because I just started during the pandemic. I started taking risks and wearing stuff. Cause I wasn't leaving.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And I love the way I felt in bell bottoms.
Trisha Paytas
That's so interesting. And what inspired the bell bottoms?
Spencer Sutherland
I had a real aha moment. And I've talked about this in interviews and stuff that I looked at the music that I was trying to make and the stuff I was listening to, and it was so different. And then I just started trying to make music that I would love to listen to, and it just instantly clicked. It connected.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. It's so interesting because it's so, like. Yeah, it's definitely not at the time. And I'm surprised how many people do like it because it Is almost like.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, it's very surprising.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
But I will say that, like, Matt, like, that kind of classic glam rock, rock and roll stuff will never go away. And it always has a. Has a place. I mean, some of these bands, like Elton John is bigger than ever. And, you know, he really, like, popped in the 70s, and I just. I love that.
Trisha Paytas
And, like, that's your era.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. And my favorite of all time is Elvis. I'm obsessed with Elvis. And I love how you have a kid named Elvis.
Trisha Paytas
Love Elvis. My daughter is named Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
Is she named after Elvis Presley?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Okay, cool.
Trisha Paytas
What? Elvis Costello?
Spencer Sutherland
You never know. Could you imagine?
Trisha Paytas
I love Elvis Costello. No, I love Elvis more than anything. And that's why I was so excited, I think, more than anything to have you on. Because there's very. There is a lot of Elvis fans, I think, because of the Austin Butler movie. But I feel like the true, deep, like, deep cuts of Elvis, like the movie Elvis. Like, what era do you like the best? 50s, 60s, 70s?
Spencer Sutherland
I mean, they're all great. If I had to choose, I'll get really specific. So you have to be careful.
Trisha Paytas
I wanna know. Yeah, okay.
Spencer Sutherland
I love the 1970 Las Vegas residency where he's just, like, a little more mature and he's shredded and tan and just like, his banter on stage is ridiculous. He's just kissing everyone in the crowd.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Full on it, just so, like, is what it is. But then, you know, the 50s Elvis is so. Is so dope. It's, like, amazing.
Trisha Paytas
I love. That's interesting you say the 70s Elvis, because he was really in good shape during the Vegas shows. Like, he was on it kicking and doing.
Spencer Sutherland
It wasn't until the last couple years that he started getting unhealthy and bloating and stuff. But.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
But also I say that. And then his last concert, like, ever. His voice was the best I've ever heard.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, I think they showed, you know. Yeah. He's like, oh, my love.
Spencer Sutherland
It's insane.
Trisha Paytas
So good. Yeah. Unchained Melly, they did a really good job with that. That's what I was happy with. How the film ended was the Unchained Melody. And then they went to the real Elvis because that was. Was his last performance. Right. Was that his very.
Spencer Sutherland
There was, like, a couple after that. That was the last televised one ever.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
The last footage they have of him performing.
Trisha Paytas
And he's just. His voice is so good. I feel like people, like, don't get that with him.
Spencer Sutherland
I mean, he was. We were talking about this, like, on the car ride up here. But he genuinely. It was like. It was like a comet hit the earth when he came out. Because it was like, what is this inappropriate? Like, madness. People were trying to sue him. People were trying to, like, get him in jail. Cause he was just humping the air.
Trisha Paytas
For the way he's, like, dancing and stuff. And his dance was so. I just, like, love everything about Elvis. I love movie air. Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, oh, great.
Trisha Paytas
All his movies. I've seen him, like, a dozen times, I think. So good. Viva Las Vegas.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Like, just so many of those good ones. And that's.
Spencer Sutherland
Why is it your favorite one?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Well, I do love, like, to go, like, real niche. I like those. Follow that dream. Follow your dream. That dream. I love that. I love the fun in Acapulco. Like, I love all those kind of movies.
Spencer Sutherland
That one's so good.
Trisha Paytas
So good.
Spencer Sutherland
It makes you feel so great. The Margarita Song.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. It's just kind of happy. Or Clamp Bake. Have you seen that one?
Spencer Sutherland
Seen every single one.
Trisha Paytas
Shelley Fabre.
Spencer Sutherland
I have most of them on DVD from when I was a kid.
Trisha Paytas
That's our favorite thing to do, is rewatch old Elvis movies. Cause the songs are just so good. And I was like, God, I wish they made fun movies like this. I don't know if they would do well anymore.
Spencer Sutherland
You can just sort of also hop in, in the middle, and it's like, oh. So there's the girl that he's trying to get. She's not into him, but she will be. And here's a rock and roll song, and it's great.
Trisha Paytas
And his career is always like, a skydiver or something. Like a cliff diver and a race car driver. It's anything like, normal.
Spencer Sutherland
He's a scuba instructor.
Trisha Paytas
Yes. He's always something. I wish they would remake those so bad.
Spencer Sutherland
My favorite Elvis voice is when he, like, really rocked and would do, like, raspy. Like, you know, six to eight comeback.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, of course. God.
Spencer Sutherland
You know. Yeah. You're in.
Trisha Paytas
No, I love everything Elvis. Yeah. Like, obsessed. Like, I watch it on the daily, like, Elvis stuff all the time.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, he's okay.
Trisha Paytas
Be.
Spencer Sutherland
So. Is he on your algorithm?
Trisha Paytas
Elvis? Yeah. I'm on Elvis Talk. I always send it to my dad. It's always, like, his acting stuff goes viral. You know the ones where. And everyone's like, oh, wow, he's so sexy. Where he goes in. I forget what movie it's from. He goes into the kitchen and, like, starts, like, yelling at the girl. And he's just like, you don't know what you're doing. Sit down, little girl. And everyone's like, oh, wow. Elvis, like, love him. Like, he's really making a comeback acting wise.
Spencer Sutherland
He totally is.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Wait, what's your. What's your song you were gonna sing?
Spencer Sutherland
I don't know. You know, you don't have to if.
Trisha Paytas
You don't want to. I just love singing.
Spencer Sutherland
Are you lonesome tonight? You know, like a little, like, so good. But my favorite is his voice when he does interviews and he's doing like. There's all this footage that came out after he died of him just being super inappropriate. It's my favorite.
Trisha Paytas
Yes, yes.
Spencer Sutherland
And he's just talking like this. That girl last night, man, that girl gave great hit.
Trisha Paytas
Yes, I see.
Spencer Sutherland
I can't stop watching it.
Trisha Paytas
It's so good.
Spencer Sutherland
I can't stop watching it.
Trisha Paytas
No, he's the best. His interviews are the greatest.
Spencer Sutherland
Keep. Keep that in.
Trisha Paytas
No, Elvis was. He was just everything. And I love that you know those. Do you see it on TikTok? Is that how you found it? Because that's how I see him now.
Spencer Sutherland
Yes. And then because it's from like the documentary Elvis on Tour. Have you seen that?
Trisha Paytas
Yes, yes, of course.
Spencer Sutherland
The editing and that's crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh. No. My very first. This is. Elvis was the very first, like kind of docu series style. Do you see that one?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
It was like right after close. After he died. And my dad like, loved that's.
Spencer Sutherland
What is that with Kurt Russell.
Trisha Paytas
They had like documentary. No, it was like a documentary. Yeah. And then it was kind of mixed with some make real stuff. Kurt Russell one is good. I don't remember that movie called, but I've seen like.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, he did a great job.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, he was good. My favorite. My favorite Elvis was Austin Butler actually, though.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I was a lot. Did you audition for that movie?
Spencer Sutherland
No.
Trisha Paytas
Would you have?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I mean, nobody can. Once again, nobody can play. Like, I remember when he got casted, I was like, huh?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, same.
Spencer Sutherland
And then he absolutely just tore it up. And I can't believe that. It was a big shocker that he didn't win his Oscar. It was like, so. But I knew it was gonna happen because I was like, here's the story of like this. Also. I love Brendan Fraser.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Love The Mummy was like my favorite kid growing up. Favorite movie growing up. And so I just knew that his comeback story was gonna be the award.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. And I was not. I was determined it was gonna be awesome. But, like, I think everyone should have been. Yeah. When you play somebody like a biopic, they always win it. And so I was so sad he didn't.
Spencer Sutherland
He also morphed into, like, every version of him, you know?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And was Elvis over 23 years?
Trisha Paytas
No. It's, like, remarkable to change that much. And.
Spencer Sutherland
And he sang and danced and, like, acted his off. I mean, it was insane.
Trisha Paytas
And his voice changed forever. What did you think of his Elvis voice?
Spencer Sutherland
I want him to keep doing it.
Trisha Paytas
I do too.
Spencer Sutherland
I like it.
Trisha Paytas
I wish he would come on here. My dream was him to come on and just be Elvis. Like, that would be so cool. Because it's like, keep it forever.
Spencer Sutherland
It's your lucky day, Austin.
Trisha Paytas
You're pretty close, though. You sound like. I love Elvis impersonators. At our wedding, he's saying Elvis came and sang I'm falling with you.
Spencer Sutherland
I know a lot of them.
Trisha Paytas
Gosh. Do you remember his name? You paid him the day before. Because we couldn't. Our other Elvis got Covid, so we had to pay this one. Do you know his name? Justin. Was it Justin Shandor? Yes, I think it was Justin Shandor.
Spencer Sutherland
I like weird. So I like real deep here, dude. But I go to Graceland a lot. And I judged the Elvis tribute contest in August. Yeah. The big one at Elvis weekend.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
And I performed at a couple shows there.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Have you been to Graceland?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, love it. I used to go every Christmas with my dad. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Okay.
Trisha Paytas
From like one, like literally like two, to like 17, I went.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it's my favorite place. I just love it.
Trisha Paytas
I love Elvis. Do you remember Trent Carlini? He's passed away, but he.
Spencer Sutherland
Vegas. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
He was on the next Best thing with. There was a guy named Sunny, was the other one. Sunny and Trent, they were the top Elvis impersonators, and I loved it. And he performed at the same Hilton Elvis did. And he was so much like him. And he would perform the lady loves Me and he'd perform all the.
Spencer Sutherland
Song you need to look up this guy and then we can get off this.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
His name's Dean Z. He's unbelievable. It's the best thing I've ever seen in my life.
Trisha Paytas
That like, brings me sounds just like him.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Oh, yeah. He came out and performed at one of my shows in St. Louis. Heartbreak Hotel with you? Yeah. And I said, I started doing Heartbreak Hotel and I stopped and I was like, you know what? St. Louis. And they all started. They're like, no. And I was like, I'm not doing this justice. Let me get the world's best Elvis out here. And he came out and it was wild to see like girls be like, feel it. Yeah, they felt the electricity.
Trisha Paytas
Was it after the movie came out?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it was last year.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I love that the new Gen Z loves out. But I've, you know, I have been an OG Elvis fan, so I always just show my like throwbacks and we just see all remember like I love Elvis before he was cool, but I like that he's cool again.
Spencer Sutherland
And if you're still watching this.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, we're done with Elvis. But speaking of, Harry Styles auditioned for Elvis. And I know you're like weirdly a One Direction fan.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, One Direction rocks.
Trisha Paytas
That's so. I see like you do covers and stuff. I'm like, that's so interesting.
Spencer Sutherland
I mean, I just remember like even there was the album that it was all like. It was all just like recycled, like almost like 80s rock.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And I loved it.
Trisha Paytas
The Harry Styles or One Direction?
Spencer Sutherland
One Direction.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah. I don't know much about it.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it was like Midnight Memories and it was like Pour Some Sugar on Me.
Trisha Paytas
Interesting.
Spencer Sutherland
But I love when stuff sounds like all. My favorite living artist is Bruno Mars.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Love Bruno Mars. And it's all just, you know, I've.
Trisha Paytas
Never heard that in so long, like people saying they love Bruno. I mean, I love Bruno Mars.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, he's so great. He's so great live. But it's very like reminiscent of, you know, James Brown and.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, he is a great. He also loves Elvis. He was impersonating elvis at like 4 years old.
Spencer Sutherland
He went to Graceland at like 4 years old.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, he looked amazing. Anyways, so much about Elvis and the next Elvis. How long have you been doing music? Since three.
Spencer Sutherland
I've been singing. Yeah, forever. But I didn't think about being a singer until I was like graduating high school. I did theater in high school.
Trisha Paytas
Musical theater?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Big surprise.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, no, it is a surprise because I know so many singers and they don't like musical theater. Especially guys. Even like gay guys. Like a lot of my friends just don't like musical theater like that. Wait, so what did you do? What shows did you do? Cause I love musical theater.
Spencer Sutherland
I did. So we had like a. In Ohio. We like won. We had like a really high funded theater program. So it was great to have like cool sets and everything. I did High School Musical 1, High School Musical 2, oh, White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, Guys and Dolls.
Trisha Paytas
Oh my God.
Spencer Sutherland
Christmas Story.
Trisha Paytas
Are you lead in all? These are you ensemble.
Spencer Sutherland
Most of them. The first couple were when I was, like, a freshman and, you know, like, High School Musical.
Trisha Paytas
You were.
Spencer Sutherland
I was this character called Jack Scott, and it was made for the stage show. I was like, this school announcer, Jack Scott here.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. It was weird.
Trisha Paytas
That was your freshman, though. So you.
Spencer Sutherland
And I was Troy understudy.
Trisha Paytas
Oh. Did you ever get to perform?
Spencer Sutherland
One time almost. And I was. And he fell and hit his head, and he was like, oh. And I almost got up there, and.
Trisha Paytas
Then he was like, I can do it. Yeah. It's like Showgirls, like, where you just push someone down the stairs. Like, it's my turn.
Spencer Sutherland
Oops.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Wait.
Trisha Paytas
You're so young. If you performed a high school Musical in high school. Because that came out, like, after my high school.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm 17.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Like a vampire. That's amazing. Wow. You're so young. Wow. I did not know because, like, High school musical.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm 32.
Trisha Paytas
Oh. And they had High School Musical in high school.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm 23.
Trisha Paytas
Young. Which one are you? I'm so confused now. It doesn't matter. Don't ask, lady.
Spencer Sutherland
No, I think the second one came out. Yeah. No.
Trisha Paytas
2009 or something. 2008.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I was a freshman in 2009.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. So it was around the same time it was coming out, I think.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Okay. I was like, after high school for me. So I guess that's why I like.
Spencer Sutherland
Or 2008. 2008. I don't know. It doesn't matter.
Trisha Paytas
I love high school. Yeah. And you did Guys and Dolls. Who were you in that?
Spencer Sutherland
The main guy. Whose name is.
Trisha Paytas
Which one? Frank Sinatra. Marlon. Brandon. Frank Sinatra. I forget their names, too. One's sky, right?
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, Sky.
Trisha Paytas
Sky.
Spencer Sutherland
Madison. Sky.
Trisha Paytas
Sky. Yeah. Most of them are like, I can't even think of it.
Spencer Sutherland
I didn't love doing that one. Yeah. I really. My dream role to do someday is to be able to be Danny Zuko in Grease. It's like, my dream to happen.
Trisha Paytas
I'm surprised you haven't done.
Spencer Sutherland
I've auditioned for it.
Trisha Paytas
Like, regional theater or like, what is it on Broadway? It's on Broadway now.
Spencer Sutherland
No, but bring it back, you know.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God. Yeah. You would crush it. So you would stop touring for that. You'd be like, okay, I'll 100%.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Because, you know, you don't have to, like, take off, like, years. You take off six months and you go do that. And I love New York City. I'd like to move there.
Trisha Paytas
Did you do you do you do shows there? Did you do a tour there, or are you doing a tour there?
Spencer Sutherland
I'll play there. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Cause you're doing one coming up. Jingle Ball. But that's not in New York.
Spencer Sutherland
That's. That's just a one off here. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
In la.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Why do I think that was in New York?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
If you're around, come December 6th. I have a show December 5th in San Diego.
Spencer Sutherland
Ooh, yes.
Trisha Paytas
Although I would be there. It's also like 18,000 people. I don't think I could do well in crowds like that. 18,000.
Spencer Sutherland
Where are you playing in San Diego?
Trisha Paytas
San Diego Civic Theater.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, nice.
Trisha Paytas
Have you been down there? Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
That's a big theater.
Trisha Paytas
We'll see. We'll see.
Spencer Sutherland
Look at you do it. Let's go.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, we're doing a mini Christmas tour. I love Christmas songs. I put out original Christmas songs for the past 10 years.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I know. I heard.
Trisha Paytas
I love it. Wait, how do you know I just.
Spencer Sutherland
Went and stalked you. Can I tell you something?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
When I. Any. At all points in my career, I've never had as many people. Friends reach out to me as when they heard you say my name on your podcast.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes. And I'm not sure if that's like a certain, like, demographic of people, but I had my phone went.
Trisha Paytas
Really? Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And it was really exciting. It was really cool.
Trisha Paytas
Shout out to Spencer's friends.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Are they all, like, hot girls? I would assume that's usually watches me.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, there's a lot of.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, just hot girls and gays.
Spencer Sutherland
Yep.
Trisha Paytas
They're all hot.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, Some. Some gays hit me up about it. Some. A lot of people from Ohio.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Wow. They're just like, dude, do you realize that you're.
Trisha Paytas
That's funny. I was. I was so excited when I saw Pop Bass mention you because I. I guess I didn't realize how popular were. You knew. You find someone, you're very popular because I saw you on Zach saying. I saw you everywhere. You're on movies, you know, you'll hang with the right cohorts. I love. I love that you sing because anybody who comes on my podcast, I'm like, will you sing with me? And no one has done it except for Joshua Robert Collie, who auditioned for Bach, actually, and he's a Broadway star and he sang with me and it made me so happy.
Spencer Sutherland
Do you tour with, like, a front of house, like, sound. Sound guy?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He makes me sound good.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. If you find the right one, it's like, they make you sound great.
Trisha Paytas
Shout out Jeremy. I've worked with him for like 10 years. He's really good. Oh, cool. Yeah, we both did a. We both just did a kitchen trio with Jonathan and Anthony.
Spencer Sutherland
I love those guys.
Trisha Paytas
I saw yours and I was like, wait, that's what I knew again, that you were so much more popular. I thought I found this really niche person. I'm like, wow, I know someone niche. And I saw pop face and then I saw you in their kitchen and I was like, oh, wait, he's like super popular.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't know if I'm super popular, but I will say that this album and single in general really started. Was the first thing that started to kind of bubble for me. And that was really exciting where people.
Trisha Paytas
Are just like, who is this person? So you study the algorithm?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
You study what people like? Like, you're like, oh, they like this. So your covers did well. Are they like retro covers that did well?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And so you're like, people like this.
Spencer Sutherland
And me, like, not trying to sing like a pop singer. Like, I tried to really use my whole voice. I did it randomly one time, the first video ever went viral. I sang and when I awake in the morning and I step outside, you know, that song and I used it was not a trending song. I just sang it. And it was the first time I like, painted my nails and I sang it in a mic and then posted it. Woke up and it had a couple million views and that was like. It was like, oh, my God.
Trisha Paytas
Your first viral TikTok.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. And I got, like, kind of nervous and I looked at all the comments and they're like, I love, like, when a man paints his nails. I. Oh, my God, your voice. And so it gave me confidence to like, start, you know, start, like, following what I actually like to wear and how I like to sound and stuff. So that was really cool.
Trisha Paytas
That is so interesting. So, like, yeah, you're very femboyant. You know what I mean? Like, is this always been like, did you always. Because in Ohio, most people maybe now they do. But being from the Midwest, no one dressed like this.
Spencer Sutherland
Still not really. Like, if you go downtown and you're like in the cool neighborhood, then you'll see some cool stuff. But people like, I'm from the suburbs. So, yeah, whenever I go travel home, I go in my closet. I'm like, what's the most toned down thing I could wear in here for my trip? Well, not really, but I'm like, I probably shouldn't bring these Star bell bottoms. Back to Pickerington, Ohio. Starbucks.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Did you ever borrow, like, your mom's clothes? Because you do love women's clothes.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I did. Because her polos would fit tight and it felt like I was like, oh.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, you liked it?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. My mom was also like 5:1, so I couldn't wear most of it.
Trisha Paytas
So it was like giving you a crop top.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
What would you feel in it? Like, when you wore like your mom's.
Spencer Sutherland
Clothes for the first time, what'd you feel? Do you wear your mom's clothes the first time?
Trisha Paytas
I love it. No, I truly love dressing like androgynous and I love the whole gender swapping. I love all of it. So I'm so.
Spencer Sutherland
I wore this polo for my High School Musical 2 audition.
Trisha Paytas
Your mom's polo?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Cause it was like, if you remember in that movie Zac Efron has. I love Zac Efron so much.
Trisha Paytas
He's just my favorite.
Spencer Sutherland
I thought I'd go, oh, we have something else in common.
Trisha Paytas
What?
Spencer Sutherland
I didn't even know you did this.
Trisha Paytas
What?
Spencer Sutherland
I had a music video come out last year that I recreated. Bet on it.
Trisha Paytas
You did?
Spencer Sutherland
No, and I posted it and it did well, but all the comments. Trisha did it better. I was like, wait, what is happening?
Trisha Paytas
Wait, how did I not see this? I did like eight hours of research and I did not see this because.
Spencer Sutherland
It'S not like branded as that. It's just my song jealousy. And then I just like loosely recreate it.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay. So you weren't like recreating. Bet on it.
Spencer Sutherland
It was pretty close.
Trisha Paytas
Did you go to the place up in Utah the same?
Spencer Sutherland
No, we shot at a friend's. I have a friend of a friend who owns a country club and like out in the. Out here somewhere.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay.
Spencer Sutherland
So it's like.
Trisha Paytas
It's so funny.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Dude.
Trisha Paytas
It wasn't even a recreation and people were like, trisha did it better.
Spencer Sutherland
Well, it's close.
Trisha Paytas
In homage.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. We definitely am doing the same kind of moves and stuff.
Trisha Paytas
Did you jump off like a cliff into the sand pit into a.
Spencer Sutherland
Like a. What's that called? Like a sand trap?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you do that? You jumped up? Yeah, I did the one. We went to the exact location up in Utah and his is so high. It's probably like a six foot jump. And I was like, there's no way I'm doing it. So it's just like a cut and then I'm like, the sand.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, you went to this place?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah. It's up in St. George. Like, they were really cool. They, like, we just had to get a couple permits and, like, yeah, you can film here on an off day that, like, no one was using the course. Yeah, they did fabulous by the pool. I forgot what it was called, but it was like, yeah, it was so.
Spencer Sutherland
The Rio Grande or something.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, maybe. Yeah. And it was. Nobody was there. And I loved Bet on it. That is, like, life changing for me.
Spencer Sutherland
I think that's one of my favorite acting careers. What I would like to have is Zac Efron's.
Trisha Paytas
Oh.
Spencer Sutherland
And, like, even just up until now, I remember that he obviously High School Musical and that type of stuff. And then he did Neighbors, and I was like, oh, I like you. Like, you're funny.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And then I don't know if you've seen Iron Claw.
Trisha Paytas
I talked so much about him on my podcast. My favorite movie.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, he is just like, how did.
Trisha Paytas
He not get an Oscar nomination?
Spencer Sutherland
No idea. Yeah, but he's just, like, a. Like, so talented. Obviously handsome and shredded, you know?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, no, but talented.
Spencer Sutherland
So talented it hurts. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And he seems, like, nice. I asked so many people about him. A lot of the girls that come on my podcast always have, like, a dating Zac Efron story. I'm like, you are so lucky. Like, how did this happen? He's my ultimate. He's my dream guy.
Spencer Sutherland
I just want to know what's in his fridge. I just want to know what his diet's like, what supplements is he on.
Trisha Paytas
What do you eat? That's so true. I wonder what.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, yeah, he's. I mean, he's just shredded. He has great genes, but he's also.
Trisha Paytas
Like, well, like, they watch. Remember when he got so big and we're like, whoa, I love the way he looks. Every era. I'd love to have his Lincoln Hairspray as, like, a big girl. I remember loving Hairspray. And I was like, oh, my God. Like, I wish I could have been. I would have been the same age, too. Oh, my God. I wish the casting. I wish I would have known about it.
Spencer Sutherland
Dude, you could have done that.
Trisha Paytas
I wish. Oh, my God. And there was an unknown. Tracy Turnblad. I think her name. I forgot her name, too. I know her name, but now I forgot it. And I was like, damn, she worked at Cold Stone. I was like, could have been me.
Spencer Sutherland
Coldstone.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, right, right, right, right.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Nikki Blonsky. That was her name. Who got it? But I'm the same age as all them. It came out, like, 2007. It would perfect love Hairspray. I heard. I don't know if I can say this. I think it's coming back to Broadway next year.
Spencer Sutherland
Did I not say that? Lynn Clarken would be a good role.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, you would be so good. Oh, my God. Lincoln.
Spencer Sutherland
I'd do that to Broadway. Really?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Okay. I'm gonna. When I get off this, I'm gonna text my agent.
Trisha Paytas
No, yeah, it's coming. I did hear. Cause I would say it.
Spencer Sutherland
I would take off touring for that.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God. To do another hit.
Spencer Sutherland
But they might've cast it already, huh?
Trisha Paytas
No, I don't think so. And they're changing a lot of the script from what I heard.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, yeah?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. They're, like, readjusting it to 2024. And, yeah, I loved it. Matthew Morrison, Trigger Warning was in the original cast, which I had no idea.
Spencer Sutherland
Wait, why Trigger warning?
Trisha Paytas
I think TikTok has trigger warnings when it's Matthew Morrison.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh.
Trisha Paytas
I think just because people are triggered by it, maybe.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't know stuff.
Trisha Paytas
I don't know the lore. I just don't.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't know much, really.
Trisha Paytas
Do you know who Matthew Morrison is? Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
From Glee.
Trisha Paytas
From Glee, people. And from Grinch. Do you remember the Grinch Live?
Spencer Sutherland
I remember the Grinch of Jim Carrey, which.
Trisha Paytas
That was iconic. Matthew Morrison did one during the Pandemic. It was. You remember those NBC live shows? Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Which they did Grease. Who was that?
Spencer Sutherland
Who was that? Aaron?
Trisha Paytas
Tavia. I don't know.
Spencer Sutherland
I auditioned for that one, too, but that was when I lived in Ohio. I flew to New York and auditioned for that.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, no.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I don't even know if it was. I was just like, oh, I'm in the Big Apple.
Trisha Paytas
Whoa. How do you get those auditions in Ohio? You had an agent.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I was, like, coming back and forth. I had an agent. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
They were just seeing everybody, too. I've not gotten most of the stuff I've auditioned for.
Trisha Paytas
You did. I think you're on that way for sure. Especially with TikTok now. It's so interesting how it's like, talent with, like, the influencer. It's like Addison Rae. Right. She was, like, just an influencer, but she's also very talented. And now she's, like, in all these movies.
Spencer Sutherland
I liked her. I liked. He's all that.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I did, too.
Spencer Sutherland
I thought it was fun.
Trisha Paytas
Did you see Thanksgiving with her?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
So good in that, too.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it's great.
Trisha Paytas
And now she's, like, the front runner for Britney Spears, so. Which would Be wild.
Spencer Sutherland
Whoa, yeah Whoa, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
But I always think, like, when you're an influencer and then you also have the talent, it's kind of like. Because I know when he came in here, I was like, oh, you're on time. Most influencers aren't. But I'm like, I guess you're not really an influencer, but I do consider you that because you're on TikTok, too.
Spencer Sutherland
Sure.
Trisha Paytas
So you're like, both. You're, like, talented.
Spencer Sutherland
And I did this. Like, I've been doing this since, like, vine was a thing. Like, I've been doing this. You were on vine forever. Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I wasn't even on Vine. What did you do? Comedy or singing? Sing Six seconds.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
You're like, here's my second.
Spencer Sutherland
Do you love me? It's over.
Trisha Paytas
And would you just sing?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I would just, like, sing acapella. I wasn't a Viner. It wasn't a thing that went well for me. But I've been doing it that long.
Trisha Paytas
So that was like, yeah, 2009.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Then I tried musically and two videos.
Trisha Paytas
And I was like, I never did musically either. Yeah. I might have been too old for it. But how do you go? How do you get the X Factor uk? Because that's, I guess, why I thought maybe you were European too, because you're on the UK version.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Imagine this entire interview, I just start talking in an accent, and I'm like, I got you.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I would believe you.
Spencer Sutherland
I've got you, darling.
Trisha Paytas
Jonathan Bailey watched it. My photographer's like, did they cast Wicked 2 already? I was like, well, here's your chance to be. I'm like, I think it's done.
Spencer Sutherland
But, yeah, I was like, could you imagine just the second part like that?
Trisha Paytas
Jonathan Bailey sounds the same.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, my God, dude, this. I saw this, like. Cause you know those lists that come out with the names. Someone quoted it, and I honestly responded. I was like, this shouldn't be as funny as it is. This girl said, spencer Sutherland is Fiero, question mark. I mean, what the hell? Yeah. Maybe if Fiero smoked six cigars a day and wore eyeliner.
Trisha Paytas
Well, that's a good alternate universe.
Spencer Sutherland
I was like. I responded. I was like, that's pretty good.
Trisha Paytas
Why the cigars?
Spencer Sutherland
I think it's because I sing with rasp.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah. It would have been kind of a serve, though. Honestly, it would be a good Fiero. That's why I would like to see you do it on Broadway, because you're over 6 foot, which I think every Fiero On Broadway. Has to be over six foot is what I heard.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, seriously?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I like the high waisted pants. I was like, I already dressed like that.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, in the stage production of the movie.
Spencer Sutherland
The movie?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, the stage production. He wears white high waisted pants and is even better. I wish they would have given him white pants because I think that's what every girl loves in that one. Adam Lambert played Fiero. Oh, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh my God.
Trisha Paytas
So good with those white pants and they're like dancing through life and they do this little. It's a great role.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Every girl falls in love with Fiero for sure.
Spencer Sutherland
What was I talking about before I.
Trisha Paytas
The lids, the cigars, the raspiness. Before that, I don't know. Ohio. Auditioning for. Oh, we were talking about the Grease.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's just my dream role.
Trisha Paytas
Interesting. Did you watch as like a little kid and you're like, you know who.
Spencer Sutherland
Danny Zuko is based off of?
Trisha Paytas
Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, Stitch.
Trisha Paytas
Stitch. Elvis, which is what Jacob Elordi based his Elvis off of, was Lilo and Stitch. Did you hear that?
Spencer Sutherland
No, but I can tell.
Trisha Paytas
He said he was an interesting Elvis. Do you watch it?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, yeah, he was, he was good.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I didn't like the. Him like with the jumpsuit on. It didn't fit good and it was like, it was like really cheap. Yeah, but he sounded like him. He just didn't look like him at all. And he was also 6, 8.
Trisha Paytas
Yes. So tall. And he said he tried to eat like 6 pounds of bacon a day. I'm like, I don't know. It wasn't. Wasn't working. They should have patted him a little bit maybe.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, he's real skinny.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Which.
Trisha Paytas
It was an interesting choice. It was an interesting choice, but also you could tell the budget because when they would show him in Vegas, there'd be no audience. It was just like lights.
Spencer Sutherland
That's what I mean. It was like. I was like, just don't add it. You don't even need it.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, it was, it was interesting. He was an interesting Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
But I don't need to see it again, you know.
Trisha Paytas
You would.
Spencer Sutherland
No, one time's enough.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's how I felt too. I actually didn't watch the whole thing because I was like a little, you know, I don't know. The whole story is like. Anyways, so you auditioned for. Oh, let's talk about your album now. So it's like a three part opera.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. There's like, there's like sort of like different, like, acts to it, but the whole. Yeah. I wanted to bring back, like, we were talking about glam rock, but, like, the rock opera album. Like, the album that has, like, a spec. It's not just, like, a single and another single. Another single. It's like. It kind of, like, sonically, like, works together, and we. Some of the keys at the end of the songs go into the next song. Like, it's like, if the song ends in A, the next one starts in A. And, yeah, the lyrics tell the story, too. It's basically just the story of my journey so far.
Trisha Paytas
It's so interesting. So it starts out with the beginning of the journey.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Called welcome to the Show.
Trisha Paytas
Love it. So theatrical. Yeah, I love the drama already.
Spencer Sutherland
It is pretty theatrical. Yeah, it's pretty theatrical. And it kind of goes through. It starts out really big, and then in the middle, it gets, obviously, heartbreaking and sad. And I like to tell that part.
Trisha Paytas
Too, which is so interesting. Cause I was watching an interview yesterday, and I was like, wow, he's really gone through it with some loves in his life. And you're like, no, I'm in love. I'm in a great relationship. It's not even about a person. And I was like, oh, I was relating. Cause I'm like, wow, he really got hurt by someone. And you're like, it's not someone.
Spencer Sutherland
Well, I've been hurt by a lot of people, but, yeah, it's basically a lot of industry people. A lot of people.
Trisha Paytas
The music industry.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. It's gnarly. It's really, really tough. Cause.
Trisha Paytas
Are you with a label?
Spencer Sutherland
No, I'm with the Orchard, so I'm with, like, a boutique distribution company, but they're awesome. They let me do whatever I want.
Trisha Paytas
That's nice, but you were with a big label or what? Like, what? Like, jaded you?
Spencer Sutherland
The many labels that almost signed me, the mini. You know, just like, all the stuff that I guess every musician goes through. But it's quintessential, like, Hollywood B.S. when you get promised all this stuff and just. You get your heart broken so many times. And I get why people quit. Like, if I look back at my journey over the past 10, 11 years, I've been doing this 12 years. Whatever. I can't believe I stuck with it.
Trisha Paytas
Like, oh, my God, what made you keep going?
Spencer Sutherland
I was pretty delusional. Like, I thought I was so close the entire time, and I'm still not where I want to be. I want to, like. I want to tour like the Rolling Stones to where I'm 75 still touring. Like I want to do that forever. I want to be in movies, I want to write stuff I want to do. I'd love to do like a neighbors type movie, like a comedy movie. I think I could do it.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, for sure. Who was it? Yeah, Jersey House bunny. Do you know Tyson Ritter? Is that his name?
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, he is awesome.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, he gives that same vibe.
Spencer Sutherland
He's so handsome too, that guy.
Trisha Paytas
He is very handsome. Yeah. And like person too. He's very like tall and striking. A music video with them. And I remember being like with all maker rejects.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
It was called the Beekeeper's Daughter. Was that universal? Yeah, it was one of. I'm always in like not the flop, but the kind of the flop music videos that no one likes. It's always the songs that like, no.
Spencer Sutherland
One cares about you And Katy Perry.
Trisha Paytas
Katy Perry.
Spencer Sutherland
I love that video. It's so crazy.
Trisha Paytas
I loved it too, but it didn't get like a good receiving of the song. People really didn't like it. And the Eminem one I was in was like his worst performing song. So I feel like I'm always like a curse for people in music videos. I like to do them.
Spencer Sutherland
Maybe I'll have to be in my.
Trisha Paytas
Best one and then it'll probably be your worst one. You're like, this is my great one. I'm like, I ruin it. I found it interesting too. You were talking about people in your music videos. Because I love doing music videos. Mine are all self funded. I'm sure you get your funding from other people, but I love. Sure don't.
Spencer Sutherland
It's all a little bit.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, you have to. Because I went like, I literally. I talk about this all the time. I think I spent $10 million on music videos and I had no property. I was still like living in my apartment and I was like, I'm just gonna spend all my money on music. Don't recommend it.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I know, but like, I kind of love that lore for you.
Trisha Paytas
I do too. And now I have Patreon. Do you do Patreon at all? You probably don't need it.
Spencer Sutherland
No, but I've thought about it before.
Trisha Paytas
It's okay. So I started my music tier on Patreon and it like helped so much. So that's how I got to do music videos again. Because music videos are expensive and I don't have any like label or anything like that.
Spencer Sutherland
So they're very expensive.
Trisha Paytas
So even like the most simple, like in front of a screen is like, you know, $8,000, you know, I also.
Spencer Sutherland
Believe in them still. I know it's like about short form content, but I. I do believe that it. You get like a return on like the furthering of your branding, if that makes any sense. Yeah, it like helps the fan or the new person, like really understand who you are.
Trisha Paytas
Totally. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Because it's this like thing that. Do you write your own treatments and stuff?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I do. Yeah. A lot of times I just cop like kind of like you said with the BET on it. Sometimes I just copy a music video. I'm like, I like Britney Spears, you know, criminal. Let's do that, you know, so.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I love the Toxic video.
Trisha Paytas
Oh my gosh, that's my favorite. I know to recreate that. Sometimes those Hank ones I can't recreate because I'm like, I can't even touch it. You know, I'm trying more niche.
Spencer Sutherland
Britney Spears music videos in the mid-2000s was my sexual awakening, I think.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Womanizer.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, and did you have a crush on her or did you think you wanted to be her?
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, the biggest crush you could ever have on someone. There's a scene in Womanizer where she's just in a steam room.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah. Where she's like.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, sideways.
Trisha Paytas
And then she has a silver robe after.
Spencer Sutherland
I just remember like missing my bus because I had to just like watch tv.
Trisha Paytas
Really interesting. Oh, Britney. Yeah, she's my. She's my favorite. She's my everything.
Spencer Sutherland
She's my ultimate. She's so great.
Trisha Paytas
That's so interesting that you like as a boy, because I feel like so many boys didn't like her.
Spencer Sutherland
They were like my friend I think should be Britney Spears.
Trisha Paytas
Who's your friend?
Spencer Sutherland
Her name's Olivia Holt. She's an actress. Former Disney kid. Oh, she'd be great. Sounds just like her when she sings.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. She can. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I wonder if the auditions are happening or not yet.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't know yet.
Trisha Paytas
John M. Chu's directing it.
Spencer Sutherland
The director.
Trisha Paytas
Oh my God. She would be great. I know they said like Tate McRae it would be.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, there's a lot of people who could. Who could do a really good job. I think. I just think she could do the best.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, put it out there, Olivia.
Spencer Sutherland
So John.
Trisha Paytas
I see it. I see it too. I think that'd be.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, she looks like her too. Like a young.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, man. Where's she from?
Spencer Sutherland
Memphis. Which also helps. Yeah, Right, right, right.
Trisha Paytas
I feel like when you're from that area. Yeah, she'd be really good. I can't Wait to see who they get to play Britney. I know it's gonna be hard, though, because I do think it's kind of like Elvis, where I was like, no one can. Like, when Harry Styles out, I was like, no, none of them can play Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
Harry Styles couldn't do it because, I mean, I'm sure he would do great, but I would just have a hard time seeing anything but Harry Styles when he's trying to be Elvis.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I think that's why it's hard.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That's why you'll be big problem being.
Spencer Sutherland
A super famous singer.
Trisha Paytas
Be like, I only see Harry Styles. But I think that's why you'll be great because, again, you are very popular, but I think you're, like, unknown enough to be like. Because I know you said you wanted to play Jim Morrison. Was it?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Which would be great because they haven't done a Doors movie since, what, Val Kilmer.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. And I feel like that's, like, 30 years ago.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I think they could redo that. There was someone else. Someone told you.
Spencer Sutherland
God.
Trisha Paytas
It was the Zach saying interview.
Spencer Sutherland
Zach.
Trisha Paytas
Cher.
Spencer Sutherland
I could play Cher.
Trisha Paytas
Would you? Let's hear Cher. I love Cher. I also did a Turn Back Time video where I, like, rented out a vessel.
Spencer Sutherland
Turn Back Time.
Trisha Paytas
If I could find a way.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, you can do it.
Trisha Paytas
No, I can't. I just love to, like, sing. I think it's so much fun. I love Dolly. I love, like, all of them.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, my God.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I want to feature her Dolly on a song so bad.
Trisha Paytas
She's, like, getting into social media now.
Spencer Sutherland
Have you met her?
Trisha Paytas
No. Almost. She. I almost got to. Okay. So she's trying to do podcasts now, and I almost got the chance to do it. It still might happen. Maybe. I don't know. One of my agents.
Spencer Sutherland
Love you.
Trisha Paytas
I would love you.
Spencer Sutherland
You guys are, like, from the same, like.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Aesthetic.
Trisha Paytas
There's a certain. Yeah. A lot of girls can relate to Dolly. You know, she's kind of like just everything she was. She's been doing podcasts, so, like, fingers crossed. I love her. She's like, man, everything but, oh, Bon Jovi. Someone said you could play. Was that thing Dan from Zach saying he was like, you'd be a good Bon Jovi.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. If there's like, a rock and roll singer, white guy with brown hair, Put me in. Put me in, coach.
Trisha Paytas
And so, yeah, I feel like those are good roles for you because it's such a breakthrough. Then maybe only people would see, like, the guy who played Elton John. Sometimes I only see him as Elton John.
Spencer Sutherland
He did a good job too, but.
Trisha Paytas
He was in like this King's Men movie and I was like, oh, I just see him.
Spencer Sutherland
I know, I know.
Trisha Paytas
It's kind of hard to break it.
Spencer Sutherland
It is hard to break that. I honestly, I don't know if I'd even complain. Like, I would just like, yeah, you.
Trisha Paytas
Know, just give me that one lifetime. Yeah, same, same, same. If you get the chance to do it, you might as well. So the heartbreak is about the industry, not in real life. There's no woman in your life or man. And I don't know. You have a girlfriend now.
Spencer Sutherland
I have a girlfriend, yeah. I've had a girlfriend for nine years.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
So you consider yourself like open or hetero or fluid or like just hetero? Okay, yeah. Love, love.
Spencer Sutherland
What's hetero again?
Trisha Paytas
I don't know. What is it really? Is anyone really hetero? I don't know.
Spencer Sutherland
No, I think, I mean, I obviously like am sitting here, I'm looking at Zac Efron and I'm like, gorgeous.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, I think it's crazy for anyone to think that they can't look at Zac Efron. I think he's like, I look at young Elvis especially and just like, just drooling a little bit.
Trisha Paytas
No, he's actually the most gorgeous person ever. Like, I look at him, I'm like, oh my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
Back to Elvis.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, sorry. Well, my daughter has a little curl right now and so everyone on TikTok is like, she has Elvis's curl. Like, I really want to believe that she's like Elvis reincarnate. I'm like, I feel like, poor thing. She's going to have like a crisis because for her first birthday already I was like, call Justin. I'm like, we need Elvis impersonator. Yeah. I'm like, I have to figure out. I think I'm going to do if I can dream for her number one. Yeah. I do themes each year for her anyways. I do love Elvis so much. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Okay.
Trisha Paytas
Everything about. I almost put the middle name Presley because my daughter's Malibu Barbie. I almost was named her Elvis Presley Paytas. But I was like, let me not be crazy. Okay, so then the third act of your album, this is God. Sa God say the dream is the heartbreak.
Spencer Sutherland
So. No.
Trisha Paytas
Is that your thought?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes, it is. Yes, it is.
Trisha Paytas
Sorry.
Spencer Sutherland
Originally it was at the end.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, okay.
Spencer Sutherland
The original track listing was that way, but I changed it last minute because the song or the album ends with a song Called place Like this. And the tag is Heartbreak feels good in a place like this, which is the Nicole Kidman.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
Sometimes heartbreak feels good in a place like this.
Trisha Paytas
Is that what the reference was?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Shout out. Emc.
Spencer Sutherland
I love the way that trailer made me feel. And we were in a session, and I was like, I want to feel ethereal like that.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, that's such a crazy statement. Heartbreak feels good in a place like this. Like, I wish we could just write a song like that. My friend Sam, she was like, we should. Let's just do that.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
So then we just did. And it just kind of like, the third act of the album is basically like, you know, it starts out confident, then I break my heart, and then it comes back and I'm confident again. But it's like a newfound. I'm sure of myself. I've been through it. I know I kind of know what's going on now. I know who to trust. I know how to navigate life now. And I just feel that way. Like, when I turned 30, it was. I've just never felt more like myself in my life.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, the best.
Spencer Sutherland
And I'm only 23, so.
Trisha Paytas
Wow. You time traveled.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I benjamined. I buttoned.
Trisha Paytas
You do look like it. You keep it up. Well, When I hit 30, I was, like, so scared. But now I love it. I'm 36 now, and I love it.
Spencer Sutherland
I've never, like. I'm like. I finally hit that thing where I was like, oh, I don't feel like I. I've only been to, like, one club ever.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And I hated it. And I just felt like I needed to go to bars and clubs like that.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
And now I go to just, like, you know, dive bar near my house. That's all I go to. Like, I don't need to do in the Valley.
Trisha Paytas
I love that.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I'll tell you after.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. I'm like, wait, what?
Spencer Sutherland
You've definitely been to this place?
Trisha Paytas
I don't know. I've actually never been to. I think I've been to maybe two bars my whole life, so probably I'll.
Spencer Sutherland
Give them a shout out. Laurel Tavern.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That one is a favorite. When I was on Tinder, everybody always wanted to meet there. I was like, hmm, kind of an odd place.
Spencer Sutherland
It's. It's a. It's a vibe.
Trisha Paytas
I don't know. I haven't been to clubs either. I remember asking people, like, what do you do at clubs? You just, like, stand there and, like, talk.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, you lose Your voice.
Trisha Paytas
You have to yell, shouting and stuff. Like, Vegas clubs. Have you ever been there?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, that's the only club I've been to.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, in Vegas?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And what did you do?
Spencer Sutherland
It was my girlfriend's birthday.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
And so, like, you know, it was free, like, stuff. And they had the big sign with sparklers that said her name on it.
Trisha Paytas
Thank you.
Spencer Sutherland
That was fun. And we were next to the DJ booth and then I left and I was like, yeah, it was cool. Don't need to do it again.
Trisha Paytas
Yay.
Spencer Sutherland
That was enough. Like, just once is enough to, like, get the vibe of it and. Awesome, man. Just like.
Trisha Paytas

I am so happy. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas

Spencer Sutherland
You, Etsy has it looking around and God, men are so creepy, you know?
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, really, like, you don't notice it until you're in one of those positions. And I'm sure, like, if you're a woman, like, you notice it a lot more. Yeah, but I like, look around like, oh, scary.
Trisha Paytas
No, men are terrifying.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, they're really, really scary.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, it's very rare. I have, like a straight man on this podcast because they scare me so much. But I think your femme energy comes off a little bit. So that's why I'm like, okay, this person I feel safe with.
Spencer Sutherland
We always have like, girls nights and stuff. And then I'm. It's like Spencer and the girls.
Trisha Paytas
You're the Honorary girl. I love that so much because it is fun to have, like, a guy around, but just like, the guys in general, I'm like, yeah, I don't know that energy. And also, even little boys as young as, like, three, my daughter's two and a half. It's like, they're just so problematic. They try to, like, pull her arm or, like, do. I'm like, can you not? They're like three year olds. I'm like, they're boys. I'm like, stop. Like, they're just kind of the worst. But you seem okay, so.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, as far as men go, I'll take. Okay. Yeah, that's good enough for me.
Trisha Paytas
And you've been in a, like, long term, committed. And you always shout her out, which I love in your interviews too. You always are like, I'm so in love with a person. Because a lot of times, especially, like, singers, I feel like, have to, like, hide it, right. Like, the One Direction guys, they have to be single.
Spencer Sutherland
I feel like that was like, very 2010.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, I feel like it's different.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, people. I love when people are like, I love my wife. Because you just like, never. Like, Lin Manuel Miranda does it all the time. Talks about his wife all the time. It's just like, oh, finally a guy that, like, is proud, you know what I mean? And is not trying to, like, hide anything.
Spencer Sutherland
Also. It's not like there's gonna be someone who is like a giant fan. They're like, oh, you have a girlfriend. I hate your music now. They love her. Like, they love.
Trisha Paytas
Well, she's a star too. Which is like, yeah, she's a star. How is that? Like, I know you don't talk a lot about a personal life, but, like, being. Having two, like, superstars in a relationship, like, is it, like, feel competitive? Like, how does it feel?
Spencer Sutherland
Like, it really, like, I'd like to say it has just for the drama of it all.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Out now. Hey, keep it next year.
Spencer Sutherland
Keep that one in, huh?
Trisha Paytas
Not competitive.
Spencer Sutherland
No, not competitive at all. Like, it really, really. I've been so lucky with her because she's helped, you know, she, like, is, like, in the demographic of someone who would listen to my music. So, like, I'm like, is this pic cool or is this. She's like, no, like, do this one because, you know, they would like this more. And it's like having, like, a personal A and R person.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, that's actually so cool.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, she has, like, my brain, but she also has, like, the eyes of other people. So it's been really, really helpful. And obviously, yeah, like you said, like, she's a star. She's been in every movie ever. Yeah, it's wild. I love. One of my favorite things to do is go to her premieres. I love it. I'll cry there.
Trisha Paytas
Really? Cause you're like, so proud.
Spencer Sutherland
So proud.
Trisha Paytas
I mean, I can't even imagine because like, to me, someone in a movie is like the coolest thing in the whole world. But then multiple movies and huge movies.
Spencer Sutherland
It made me want to act like it literally was like. Was like the catalyst behind me acting. Because I saw, you know, you see her name in the credit and you see you on screen. And one thing that's been happening, she's not just in a bunch of stuff. She's really good. Like, she's really talented. And she's doing this show right now and there's a really big actor in it. This guy has been in a lot of stuff. And it was really cool to see someone of his caliber give her. She's a real one. She is so talented.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, that's so cool.
Spencer Sutherland
That's like when I got a DM from John Legend, that was like, you sound.
Trisha Paytas
Oh my God.
Spencer Sutherland
Like that.
Trisha Paytas
What did he say?
Spencer Sutherland
I did his open verse and he. And he did a reaction video to it. Oh my gosh. I know, it's so cool.
Trisha Paytas
Was that your biggest moment from like a modern day celebrity or was it.
Spencer Sutherland
Shania Twain was big too.
Trisha Paytas
I loved. What did she do?
Spencer Sutherland
I did. I covered still the one that I want.
Trisha Paytas
And so open verse on TikTok. Cause I seen it. So like someone puts out and you duet it and you can just do like whatever.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And Shania Twain, you did that with.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, Shania. John Legend. I forget who else, but yeah, it's so cool. It's crazy that like, you know, even like how we contacted each other, like you can. You basically have everybody's number. Yeah, if they check it enough.
Trisha Paytas
Right.
Spencer Sutherland
And if you're verified, then you have a good chance of someone seeing your.
Trisha Paytas
Message on TikTok or Instagram more. So do you think you get DM'd?
Spencer Sutherland
Instagram, probably.
Trisha Paytas
Really? Cause TikTok you have to follow. Cause I followed you for a while.
Spencer Sutherland
That's right. That's right.
Trisha Paytas
And it wasn't until you followed back and I was like, say hi to this person. Okay, now I can DM. I just don't check my Instagram. DMs like that. So I never think to DM someone. But you're saying people do.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, yeah. I DM a lot of people.
Trisha Paytas
Really? And they see it.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah. For the most part. I mean, sometimes they don't. And then I unsend it, resend it again.
Trisha Paytas
Do you.
Spencer Sutherland
I have done it and it's worked.
Trisha Paytas
I said, you know who messaged me back? One time was the week. I have it framed somewhere. The weeknd messaged me back, and at first one was his team, but then it was him. And I was like, wow. Okay, Abel. Like, I was so excited.
Spencer Sutherland
Insane.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I love the weekend. I had a. Like, I go through phases, but the weekend was definitely, like, one of my phases. But, yeah, we DM and Meghan Trainor DM'd you on TikTok.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, on Instagram.
Trisha Paytas
On Instagram, yeah. And you guys did a song together?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, she invited me over, like, a day later.
Trisha Paytas
That's wild. I think she's in that same house. But did you go to that, like, house that was so extravagant in the backyard?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes, that's the house. She's in a different one now.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, she's in. That one was insane. I was like, she never showed it anywhere. And I was like, girl, like, what is this? It's like an amusement park or something back there.
Spencer Sutherland
I was like, damn.
Trisha Paytas
No, it was Meghan Trainor's house is such an experience. Well, her old house. I know.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm sure the new one's even more of an.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, I'm sure. I was like, wait, how are you gonna move out of that one? So you recorded, like, downstairs in her house?
Spencer Sutherland
Her. Her old house?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, the one that's, like, not. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw the recordings here. I was like, carl, you have. You're living the dream.
Spencer Sutherland
I know, I know.
Trisha Paytas
She's, like, so famous, too. I always forget about that. Like, Madison Square Garden. She just played. And I was like, oh, my God.
Spencer Sutherland
The whole tour, Like, I was like, dude, what?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, she's so famous.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
She's so humble and sweet, and you're just like, oh, it's just like a. Again, influencer. You're on TikTok. And I'm like, oh, no. This is like a Superstar was the biggest song ever.
Spencer Sutherland
And also, like, I love how she treats up and coming artists and younger artists. Like, she really gives people a chance and she really believes in them and, like, listens and spends time and, you know, we even hung out outside of that. Like, she's a really, like, great person. Me and Maddie and her and Daryl, like, would go hang out.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
I love Daryl, too.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Yeah. He's like, super sweet. Also a superstar. And you're just like, wow, you're so humble.
Spencer Sutherland
I just walk into the living room and I look on the wall and he just has like his Spy Kids outfit frame.
Trisha Paytas
I was just like so iconic.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, I was so into Spy Kids.
Trisha Paytas
Yes, same, same. And I was a little older and I still loved it. I was like, wait, I kinda love this. Yeah, they're iconic and iconic duo.
Spencer Sutherland
And then I met, you know, Big Time Rush. Carlos. Yeah. I opened for them.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, so you knew Carlos first?
Spencer Sutherland
No, I didn't know Carlos first, but Carlos wife Alexa is the other Spy Kid.
Trisha Paytas
Alexa Peniman. Oh, so did you know her before you met? Okay, so you.
Spencer Sutherland
I just was like talking to both Spy Kids at one time.
Trisha Paytas
Wow, I really, really made it. Yeah, it is cool. I mean, she's amazing. I love both of them so much. I don't know anything about Big Time Rush, but I know they were really big and you opened for them. How did that come about?
Spencer Sutherland
I knew Logan from the band.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
Just he was doing some solo stuff and we met that way and then we kind of became friends and started grabbing drinks and stuff. And then I met Kendall as well. And one day at the gym, they started going to my gym. Cause I told them about this cool boutique gym that now is gone. It's demolished.
Trisha Paytas
Was it Crunch?
Spencer Sutherland
No. Crunch Fitness?
Trisha Paytas
No, that's a place. It's like it was a boutique.
Spencer Sutherland
24 hour. No, I'm kidding. 24 Hour Fitness. Riverside. No, Studio City. There's this place, it was called Built and it was like boutique and like private. A lot of actors like went there. It was cool.
Trisha Paytas
Was it off Laurel?
Spencer Sutherland
Yep.
Trisha Paytas
And it's closed. That was close.
Spencer Sutherland
It's closed. Do you know the one I'm talking about by flair?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, my God, that's crazy.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm so mad.
Trisha Paytas
Was it because of the pandemic?
Spencer Sutherland
No, they. They just like someone bought it.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay. Yeah, I remember everyone would like take pictures there and I was like, oh, that's so cool.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
So that was the gym and you guys would go like work out.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. And then what one? Like, we, you know, we would like talk to each other and like hang a little bit. And then one day, announced tour and I just like asked them. I was just like, no way. Guys, I know you have like everybody asking to open for you in the store and I just want you to know that, like, we would have a great time and I'm interested.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
And then two days later, we had like an offer in our inbox. They're. Yeah, those.
Trisha Paytas
No way. Yeah, Put it out there and then you get it. Like, ask and you shall receive.
Spencer Sutherland
I think most of the things. Most of the good things have been me, like, asking, asking, or just like, DMing someone or calling in a favor or something. You know, it's hard. It's really hard to get on a tour.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I'm like, how do people open for, like, such big acts like that?
Spencer Sutherland
But, like, you, you're at the stage where you're playing, like, big theater.
Trisha Paytas
So I. I would like to open for someone, though. I open for you.
Spencer Sutherland
I'd open for anyone doing, like, doing, like, arenas. You'd be good in. I don't know. Everybody would know you too.
Trisha Paytas
Arenas would be wild.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, if you open for. If you open for.
Trisha Paytas
I would like to know. I'll give you my answer. I want to know what you think I should open for.
Spencer Sutherland
Well, like, a Cher would be so good.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God, that would be crazy.
Spencer Sutherland
But fan base wise, Cher would be insane if you did an arena Gwen Stefani tour.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, oh.
Spencer Sutherland
If you open for Pink, they would die.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God. Okay. Those are huge. Those are, like, the biggest things.
Spencer Sutherland
That's what I'm saying, though. Like, you could.
Trisha Paytas
I love it. Pinker. Gwen Stefani. Call me. My dream is My Chemical Romance.
Spencer Sutherland
DM them, unsend it, then resend it.
Trisha Paytas
I just keep sending. I just keep sending it over and over.
Spencer Sutherland
Hey, hey, that's me.
Trisha Paytas
I am that person. Like, love you. But now Instagram stops you at, like, one. They have to, like, accept it now before you can, like, spam them. So my dream is Jesse Timberlake.
Spencer Sutherland
Won't be. Oh, dude.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
That would actually make so much sense.
Trisha Paytas
I have a cover band of My Chemical Romance where I dress as Gerard Way, and I would love that so much. They're playing arenas? No, they're playing stadiums. Dodger Stadium. Yeah, they're playing that next year.
Spencer Sutherland
Do you know who's opening for them?
Trisha Paytas
Maybe me.
Spencer Sutherland
I just think if you go out on that stage and you do, like, one little thing from About My Chemical Romance, like you do like a half song or something. Oh, you win them over for the. Like, you'll have.
Trisha Paytas
I would love. I've done. I've done every tribute music video to them. We spent, what, like half a million dollars going to Long beach to, like, recreate Ghost of youf. Like, I just, like, love them so much.
Spencer Sutherland
I love your fandom. I do. But I love your. You have been so relevant for so long.
Trisha Paytas
Oh.
Spencer Sutherland
And you are just like. I just love your career.
Trisha Paytas
Thanks. I'm shocked. I'm so shocked that you're even here. Like, I guess again, because you're friends, but I'm like. I'm always shocked. People know me because I've just been around for, like, so long. I've always gotten, like, under the radar, but I like that I've never really popped off. I kind of don't mind being under the radar. Like, I'm there and people know, but I think if you get, like, too big, you get, like, a burnout. You know what I mean?
Spencer Sutherland
Sure, I see what you mean. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Crash. Crash now?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I haven't had a crash out yet. 36. I've done this since I was 18, so I've had a crash out yet.
Spencer Sutherland
Hell, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Hopefully I'll keep going like you. I don't know about till I'm 75, but maybe like, 65.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Maybe I'm stretching a little bit, but I love seeing those old rock bands just, like, still. It's just so legendary.
Trisha Paytas
I mean, it is.
Spencer Sutherland
Paul McCartney's 80. He's just still out there playing guitar the wrong way.
Trisha Paytas
He's my dream guest, for sure. I love Paul McCartney.
Spencer Sutherland
I met him once.
Trisha Paytas
How was he?
Spencer Sutherland
So lovely.
Trisha Paytas
Where was it?
Spencer Sutherland
This is the most LA sentence ever. I met Paul McCartney at Soho House.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, really? Okay. Love that.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. We were like. I was talking to me and my friend, like, in the outdoor bar area, and it was kind of crowded. I felt like a hand right here. I was like, oh, sorry. And it was Sir Paul McCartney.
Trisha Paytas
He put his hand on you.
Spencer Sutherland
He was, like, trying to get through. And we're like. And we just couldn't help it. We were just like, hey. Hey, Paul. He was like, you all right? You all right? We shook his hand.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, wow.
Spencer Sutherland
And then he left. We didn't. Obviously, you can't take pictures in there, but I wouldn't have asked. Anyway.
Trisha Paytas
What is. I know Soho House is, like, exclusive, but what is inside of it? Or can you not talk about it?
Spencer Sutherland
I signed an NDA with Soho House.
Trisha Paytas
I know people go there. I never get invited to these things. I have no idea.
Spencer Sutherland
They have a bunch of blood cult rituals all over the place and free cookies.
Trisha Paytas
And they have photo booths, right? They have a photo booth in there.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. But to get in there, you have to prick your finger and sign Blood on the wall.
Trisha Paytas
Wow. That's like Parseltongue, dude.
Spencer Sutherland
Parseltongue in Wicked. She's doing that. Oh, the ancient. It's not really Parseltongue, but it reminded me of that.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah, yeah. She does do an Act 1. Act 2. She does it, too. She's like, dude, it's crazy. Yeah. I love witches stuff. I used to pretend to be a witch. I loved it.
Spencer Sutherland
So house, restaurant, bar, it's just like, oh, okay. It's a great view and a great vibe. It's just exclusiveness. Nothing special.
Trisha Paytas
Were you a member or a guest?
Spencer Sutherland
Guest. I know too many people that are members that I don't ever want to become a member because then I would go there too much and hang out all the time. Yeah, I don't want to do that.
Trisha Paytas
So you don't go out to clubs, but, like, that kind of place you do. Like, what is your.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, love that.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Do you like to go out for.
Spencer Sutherland
A. I love a. Like, a dark Mad Men bar.
Trisha Paytas
I love that so much.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
So what you guys on, like, a typical weekend and you're going out to Soho House movies? Like, what do you do?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, go see a lot of movies. I love to just like to grab drinks at the local dive bar. Like, I love that.
Trisha Paytas
And you guys just go out, just.
Spencer Sutherland
Talk and hang out.
Trisha Paytas
I love it.
Spencer Sutherland
And it's just so fun. And maybe go to another spot. And I, like, live close to these spots. So I walk home and it's just.
Trisha Paytas
Like, oh, the best. Yeah. No parking.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah, right?
Trisha Paytas
And nine years. How do you. How do you keep it exciting after nine years? We've only been together five years. I think five years is long, but nine years.
Spencer Sutherland
We spent a lot of time apart. A lot of time. Yeah. Cause she films and I tour, and sometimes at the same time, which is really tough, I would say. Communication is just massive. And we've learned that every time we're feeling disconnected or something, we learn how to talk about that. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
I couldn't even imagine actually being apart that long.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it's a long.
Trisha Paytas
Like, how long? A month? Two months?
Spencer Sutherland
We've done four months before. Isn't that crazy?
Trisha Paytas
And are you talking. I cannot do it. Oh, my God.
Spencer Sutherland
Every day I'm like, FaceTime is a godsend.
Trisha Paytas
Okay, so you FaceTime every day?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, a couple times a day.
Trisha Paytas
What are your guys? What's your sign?
Spencer Sutherland
I'm a Virgo.
Trisha Paytas
And. Oh, September or August 31st. August 31st. Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
And she's an Aquarius.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, interesting. Okay, that makes sense. Actually, my daughter's a Virgo.
Spencer Sutherland
February. February's Aquarius.
Trisha Paytas
Beginning of February.
Spencer Sutherland
February 14th. Valentine's Day.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. That's Aquarius. Yeah. It starts January 22nd.
Spencer Sutherland
I just don't wanna get in trouble if I'm wrong.
Trisha Paytas
Valentine's Day. That's cute. What a day to be born on. Ugh. That's so cool. To be born on.
Spencer Sutherland
It's so much better because we don't, like, celebrate Valentine's Day.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, no. That's so sad, though.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, it's great. Because Valentine's Day, it's her birthday.
Trisha Paytas
I know, but did you get double the presents for her?
Spencer Sutherland
No, I don't get, like, heart stuff.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay. Okay. I think it's fun to have the same Valentine's Day.
Spencer Sutherland
It's really. It's really fun. Her whole life growing up, her birthday at school was, like, overshadowed by it. So she doesn't like Valentine's Day, which is actually great for me because I'm like, I don't love it either.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do love it. I think it's kind of fun.
Spencer Sutherland
It is. I'm just. My cynical. My heartbreak. Cynical's coming up.
Trisha Paytas
Heartbreak. Act two of the drama. You've done so many genres and you're doing, like, this, like, rock opera. What's a genre you would like to try that you haven't already?
Spencer Sutherland
I really don't know if I ever will, but I can't stop listening to the Post Malone country album.
Trisha Paytas
Oh.
Spencer Sutherland
And I was just like, what if I did like, country soul someday?
Trisha Paytas
Would you?
Spencer Sutherland
Maybe right now I have some more exploring to do on the rock opera front. I want to make a couple more. Yeah, it feels correct and it feels exciting and, like, big and like, not enough people are doing it, which is great.
Trisha Paytas
No one is doing it. I don't think. Maybe Harry Styles a little bit.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, but.
Trisha Paytas
But not really.
Spencer Sutherland
But even that last album, he was. I think he was about to do that. And that last album went kind of indie rock.
Trisha Paytas
What about the Watermelon Sugar song? That's his.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That's kind of like disco Y. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
That. That album is my favorite album.
Trisha Paytas
So good. That's your vibe. I feel like on stage, like, when he did Coachella, like, I was like, oh, it looks like the same person like you, you know.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, I get so many, like, Teemu, Harry Styles comments.
Trisha Paytas
And why does Teemu get so much hate? Like Walmart, Harry Styles. Teemu's fine. And I love Walmart too.
Spencer Sutherland
I have. We. I have. We have Shawn Mendes at home.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, God, you really do kind of look like everybody.
Spencer Sutherland
I just. No, you know what it is? It's just Like a guy with a tall white guy with dark hair.
Trisha Paytas
No, you have. No, it's a certain vibe. Because you don't look like Will Ferrell. You know what I mean? John C. Reilly. Like, you have, like, a very specific look.
Spencer Sutherland
I mean, I don't want to look like John C. Reilly.
Trisha Paytas
I don't mind him.
Spencer Sutherland
Although it really. Yeah, he's had a great career.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I think. And also, he's kind of musical, too. He was in Chicago.
Spencer Sutherland
Have you ever seen Walk the Dewey Cox Story?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God. Yeah. I don't know if I like that one.
Spencer Sutherland
That's a crazy movie. No, I just think it's like. I just watched it recently, and I was just like.
Trisha Paytas
I know. I kind of wanted to love it. Cause I love biopics, and I love the idea of a parody of a biopic movie.
Spencer Sutherland
But I was like, it's almost to parody.
Trisha Paytas
I think that's what it is. I kind of don't get it. I don't know if it was meant for me.
Spencer Sutherland
He keeps ripping the sinks off the wall.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Wait, you kind of love it. I feel like you're a fan.
Spencer Sutherland
I think I do like it.
Trisha Paytas
Cause, you know all the references of it.
Spencer Sutherland
I did see it for the first time, and when I think it was Tyler Hilton who played Elvis, I got mad. He's like, look out, man.
Trisha Paytas
You're like, that could have been me.
Spencer Sutherland
I was like, no, he's cooler than that. And now I love every lore of Elvis.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I love that we keep coming back to Elvis. Because in the Jerry Lee Lewis movie. No, I love it, too. Every time we watch something, there's always an Elvis character, and I always critique him. Did you ever see Great Balls of Fire with Dennis Quaid?
Spencer Sutherland
Dennis Quaid? Yeah. I've been trying to watch it, but you can't get it anywhere.
Trisha Paytas
We have the dvd. We had to get it. We literally just watched it the other day. Cause I was trying to stream it. Yeah, you can't. I wonder why.
Spencer Sutherland
It's very weird. I don't know. Yeah, That's a good one, though.
Trisha Paytas
I used to love it as a kid, and then I watched it. Literally. We watched it, like, a month ago for the first time. Yeah. But I was kind of like. I don't know. I kind of, like, idolized it as a kid. Like, I loved Jerry Lee Lewis. I'm like, mmm, okay. A little much. I don't know. Maybe my cousin is wild.
Spencer Sutherland
I love the temp. Dude. Don't even get me started. I love the Temptations biopic Have you seen that one?
Trisha Paytas
Noah's Elvis in it?
Spencer Sutherland
No.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, you just love it. Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
I just love it.
Trisha Paytas
I was like, what is he, Temptations? No, I haven't seen it.
Spencer Sutherland
It's one of my favorites.
Trisha Paytas
Is it older or is it newer one?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, late 90s, but it doesn't feel like it is.
Trisha Paytas
I love the Temptations.
Spencer Sutherland
I mean, it's so good. It, like, is so, so, so good.
Trisha Paytas
Any big actors in it? Any name actors, or is it all.
Spencer Sutherland
Yes, but, like, not anybody that I remember their names. They've been a lot of stuff.
Trisha Paytas
What's like, you know, like, every time I watch a biopic, you, like, learn the hardships. Like, Johnny Cash is like, okay. He was like, cheating and drinking. Like, you always like, what is theirs? Cause I imagine they, like, squeaky clean to me.
Spencer Sutherland
Same. Yeah. A lot of drinking, a lot of cheating, a lot of drugs and patients. Oh, yeah. David Ruffin did more cocaine than I've ever heard of anybody doing. Oh, yeah. He's such a good singer, too. He's so good.
Trisha Paytas
His. Yeah. The range of Temptations. Who's the other one?
Spencer Sutherland
What?
Trisha Paytas
Someone sings Sherry. Who's that?
Spencer Sutherland
Frankie Valley.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Like back in the day when they do you kind of do that. You kind of have, like, the falsetto. Is it falsetto? I don't know.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, falsetto. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Where they sing so high. I'm like, nobody sings like that anymore. It's, like, so cool. Michael Jackson obviously did that a lot.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I missed that a little bit.
Trisha Paytas
Well, you're bringing it back with all your music, which I think is interesting.
Spencer Sutherland
Bring back guitar solos. I say, do you play guitar? Yeah. Like, I don't shred.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
I know how to play guitar. I'm not, like, a soloer. My guitarist, Jordan is, like, outstandingly good.
Trisha Paytas
You perform with a live band?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Are you doing that? Jingle Bell? Yeah, Jingle Bell.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Jingle Bell. Guitarist, drummer, keyboardist. And then we have tracks, obviously.
Trisha Paytas
And you sing live.
Spencer Sutherland
I lip sync everything.
Trisha Paytas
It was controversial. Who was it? Troye Sivan was saying Sabrina Carpenter stopped singing with her tracks. But he's like, I'm gonna keep singing. Do you sing at all? With any track at all, or you just sing really raw?
Spencer Sutherland
I have tracks in there, but they're like the harmonies in the chorus.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Like, I don't want to not have harmonies just to prove that I can sing.
Trisha Paytas
You just start harmonizing with yourself.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I do, like, split tone.
Trisha Paytas
Do you have backup singers with you?
Spencer Sutherland
No, I want to do that.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Honestly, at this point, it's just like a monetary thing, like. Yeah, yeah, no, when it makes sense, I want to bring like three backup singers, you know, add a bass player, get a crazy. Like our stage set's cool, but it would be nice to have like a crazy stage set. But we're in like, we're in like small theaters and clubs, so. Yeah, it's hard to have a catwalk in those places.
Trisha Paytas
No, I know my Tory anger people too were just like, oh, it could just be you. They just want to see you. And I'm like, no, I have to bring my dancers. I have to bring Asante. I have, you know, like you have to bring it all to make it a show. I think that's why a lot of even big bands like Lady Gaga and stuff like that. I feel like a lot of times they don't even make money. Like they end up like breaking even all the time. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
It's also like if you want them to keep coming, you have to give them a show.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
If you want to make a little bit of money and not give them a good show, they won't come back next time.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. My dad works in B2B marketing. He came by my school for career day and said he was a big roas man. Then he told everyone how much he loved calculating his return on ad spend. My friends still laugh at me to this day.
Spencer Sutherland
Not everyone gets B2B, but with LinkedIn you'll be able to reach people who do. Get $100 credit on your next ad campaign. Go to LinkedIn.com campaign to claim your credit. That's LinkedIn.com campaign terms and conditions apply. LinkedIn. The place to be, to be.

I'm like, we have to make it good because like it's going to be all over TikTok. People are going to karaoke out there by myself. People are going to be like, what is this? Maybe they were like. But also like, I need to put on a show too. It's so great. But I know what you mean. Coming with like everybody. It does take.
Spencer Sutherland
Are you rehearsing for it and stuff?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, we're doing it today. We're at center staging. So I go to.
Spencer Sutherland
That's where I rehearse.
Trisha Paytas
Really? Oh my God. We're at the small one today. We're in stage two today.
Spencer Sutherland
So I forget which one I'm in. But it's not. It's not a giant one.
Trisha Paytas
It's fun that we just. I haven't done Ian ears before. It's my first time doing those. I kind of nervous like, what if they stop working? Like, I don't know. All of it sounds very nerve wracking to me.
Spencer Sutherland
Are they ultimate ears?
Trisha Paytas
No idea. I just got them off Amazon.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh.
Trisha Paytas
They're not like fit in.
Spencer Sutherland
You gotta get. You gotta get them fitted.
Trisha Paytas
Really? I mean, I'm only doing three shows right now, but we'll see after.
Spencer Sutherland
This will be a good one to like, to like learn how to use them and then for your next tour or whatever, you should go get molded.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I'll send you to the person there.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. I need to, I need to. I'm like really nervous cuz again, this is my bigger shows, like Beacon and stuff. I used to play like.
Spencer Sutherland
You playing The Beacon?
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. December 10th. Oh my God, it's sold out and like what, 30 minutes. Yeah, it sold out. I know. So I put the pressure on, you.
Spencer Sutherland
Know how big of a deal that is.
Trisha Paytas
I now I do. Yes, I think.
Spencer Sutherland
Except how big of a deal that is. That is so sick.
Trisha Paytas
I'm excited. I am excited because the last tours I did were a lot smaller and you know, it's so cool. Yeah, so it's cool. It's with the podcast. So again, I like shout out to the podcast for like helping people rediscover my music.
Spencer Sutherland
I love that.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. And like you said, investing in yourself. The music videos I invested so much in throughout the years in architecture, actually perform them so it doesn't feel like I'm telling you.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, right. Like, it really did. It really helps more than, you know, even if it doesn't help in the moment, because you don't see, like, a bunch of money back from it.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, right.
Spencer Sutherland
That's not what you're seeing it.
Trisha Paytas
I saw no money back. I was just, like, spending money on.
Spencer Sutherland
You know, $60 on AdSense.
Trisha Paytas
My first music video ever was Little Last Conversation, and I did a.
Spencer Sutherland
Why have I not seen that?
Trisha Paytas
Well, I had to get permission from the Elvis estate. That was Presley, you know. Yeah. And so that's a tricky one. And when you cover an Elvis song legally, like, you can't dress like Elvis. So I had all the costumes as through the era.
Spencer Sutherland
I didn't know this.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. So they were like, okay. So, like, the day before, they're like, okay, you can do everything, but you can't wear the jumpsuit. You can't wear the 68 comeback special outfit. Like, it has to be not Elvis. So we had to switch all my costumes the day before, and I was like, okay. So. Yeah. Then we just.
Spencer Sutherland
To something kind of like it.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I ended up being, like, in a 70s, like, silk jumpsuit or something. So it didn't look like Elvis, but they're very. And after that, I was like, okay, I can't do anymore.
Spencer Sutherland
I do know they're strict about stuff.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Rightfully so.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, you went to Graceland and got, like, a secret tour?
Spencer Sutherland
So many. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
How did you get that?
Spencer Sutherland
I'll introduce you to these people. Angie and Alicia, Gracelyn. And they become, like, best friends now.
Trisha Paytas
And you went to all these secret places.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Really, really cool stuff. I got to try on Elvis rings and his glasses and.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
And. Yeah. I just am. So I look back at when I was, like, a kid, and I'm like, if I could think that I'd be in here right now, like. Cause that's the reason I started doing music.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
If I could, like, tell myself I'd be, like, looking at the. You know, looking at his piano this close and just like, unbelievable. Unbelievable. And just being in there when it's quiet or, like, being by his grave when it's quiet. Like, oh, my gosh, I have to introduce you to them. They would love to meet you.
Trisha Paytas
I would love to meet them. Because Alvis to me is like a spiritual, like, in every single way. Like, I get chills. Like, our room upstairs, we're doing, like, the Peacock Room with the stained thing. Like, I just. Everything to feel, like, close to.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm Gonna send this to Angelica, please.
Trisha Paytas
Like, we love Elvis. My daughter's Elvis. We didn't know if it was a boy or girl. Whatever this baby is, is gonna be Elvis. Because it just always was the name. I just always, like, felt like I have to have a baby Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
You know, Elvis is cool name too, because it's like, it's. It's kind of. You could be a girl, it could be a boy. Like, it's just a cool, like.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, it's like a fun name. I think there's another baby named Elvis. There was a Broadway actor who had a baby named Elvis, but it was a boy. I think she might be our first girl Elvis. So love it. Yeah. But Elvis is cool in every way. Just the person, the being, everything. What are you performing at? Jingle Bell. Jingle Bell. Jingle Bell. Jingle Bell.
Spencer Sutherland
Jingle Bell Ball.
Trisha Paytas
Is it Jingle Bell or Jingle Bell?
Spencer Sutherland
It's Jingle Bell, Jingle Ball. I'm performing. I think I have a 20 minute set. So, like, it's a short one.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, that feels like big. In front of 18,000.
Spencer Sutherland
No, no, this is the main show's inside. I'm right outside of the arena.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
There's like a. They call it a village stage.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
It's me and Addison Rae.
Trisha Paytas
No way.
Spencer Sutherland
And a K pop band. Who. I can't remember their name. Powell.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
And legends.
Trisha Paytas
Honestly, all of them.
Spencer Sutherland
McKenna Grace. Shout out to her.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Which is really weird because she played my girlfriend, did a movie called Annabelle Comes Home, and she played the little girl that Maddie babysat.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
And now I'm playing a show with her.
Trisha Paytas
Did you ever get to meet her?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
She was like 13 at the time. Now I think she's like 19.
Trisha Paytas
Wow. Or something like that. Oh, my God. That's so fun. So are you gonna do holiday music or.
Spencer Sutherland
No, I'm gonna do, I think four originals and a cover. I don't know what the COVID is gonna be, but.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my God, it's like a week away.
Spencer Sutherland
Well, we have like three prepared.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. So it's just like fun. You're just.
Spencer Sutherland
Don't start rehearsal till it's just like two days before.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes.
Trisha Paytas
You just came back from a tour.
Spencer Sutherland
It's like. It's a similar set to what I did in Europe. We're just like swapping a song, so. And I just did a show in at the Citadel Outlets, which was so fun.
Trisha Paytas
I saw your pictures from that. That looks. I always see it off the freeway. I'm like, that looks so Cool. I want to stop there.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, it was so cool.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, how did. Okay, so what was that for? Just, like, a show for your show or tree lighting?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That's so cool.
Spencer Sutherland
It's the tallest tree in the country.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And then what did you sing?
Spencer Sutherland
I sang. I did a couple Christmas songs there. I did Santa Claus, Back in Town and Blue Christmas, of course. And then I did some originals.
Trisha Paytas
And.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, it was. I did. Yeah. It was so fun.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh. So now you're doing this one. And then this is your last show of the year?
Spencer Sutherland
Last show of the year.
Trisha Paytas
And then you start a big tour next year.
Spencer Sutherland
Start the show in Dublin on January 12th.
Trisha Paytas
Did you just get back from Ireland?
Spencer Sutherland
I just did, yeah. Two days ago. Three days ago.
Trisha Paytas
How come you're so big over there?
Spencer Sutherland
I was there. I was there visiting my girlfriend. She's there shooting.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, got it. Okay. She's, like, performing shows over there. I was like, wow, you're going back again. That's cool.
Spencer Sutherland
No, my first time ever performing there. We start there and then we go on. It's actually the only acoustic show on the tour. Cause I wasn't sure if anyone was gonna come. And it's sold out, which is great. Small show. And then we go to London for full band rehearsals for three or four days.
Trisha Paytas
Acoustic, meaning you're just there by yourself with a guitar.
Spencer Sutherland
My guitarist is coming, but me and him. And then my videographer. Wow.
Trisha Paytas
And then you go to London, do rehearsals there.
Spencer Sutherland
First shows in Amsterdam, and then we just go around Europe. And then I come back here for a week after that tour and start the North American tour in Phoenix.
Trisha Paytas
Wow. And then how many Cities here? Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
25.
Trisha Paytas
Wow. Are you gonna go bus?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That sounds like a lot. When people talk about bus tour, I'm like, how do you, like, go to the bathroom? Don't you have to, like, stop?
Spencer Sutherland
It's also not as romantic as you think.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, it doesn't sound like it.
Spencer Sutherland
You're in, like, coffin bunks.
Trisha Paytas
Do you sleep in the bunks? Isn't there, like, a big room in the back?
Spencer Sutherland
I would choose to get the. I would choose to get the lounge.
Trisha Paytas
Common area back there.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
That's so nice.
Spencer Sutherland
I think if I play a little bigger venues, then maybe I would.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
At some point, I come out in my robe. How did everyone sleep?
Trisha Paytas
That is kind of awkward. I thought about that, too. Cause, I mean, it would be fun, but that's so awkward. Like, bye. Have fun in the bunker.
Spencer Sutherland
Also, you are the one paying for the tour.
Trisha Paytas
That's true, I guess. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
No, I'm not there yet. I also like the camaraderie of being with everybody until I can't sleep and then I don't care about camaraderie anymore.
Trisha Paytas
Right. Do you have trouble sleeping on the tour buses?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Oh, God, yeah. Has to be. Still can't sleep if it's moving. So I'm sitting there till like 4am Till it stops.
Trisha Paytas
And then I. Oh, interesting. Because usually babies, when they're, like, moving, it, like, helps them sleep.
Spencer Sutherland
No, this is like.
Trisha Paytas
And you're. But you're small. You're a petite frame, so you could fit in there. I just don't. I could fit into one of those.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm not a petite friend.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I mean, you're long. Six foot two, narrow.
Spencer Sutherland
£190.
Trisha Paytas
Congrats.
Spencer Sutherland
Put it on my baseball card. I actually have not weighed myself in like, a year or two, so I have no idea.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. I know it's like, I hate when people ask about weight, but I know you talk about it a lot, and. I do. Yeah. And I am so fascinated. Cause I've never seen you fat, but you always talk about losing £100. I'm like, where are these pictures at?
Spencer Sutherland
I did. I lost. I lost £100. It was before I did anything, like, in music or anything. So. It was when I was in high school.
Trisha Paytas
High school. So you're playing sky and Guys and Dolls as that one I lost weight for.
Spencer Sutherland
Cause that was my senior year.
Trisha Paytas
So High School Musical when you're playing. Who was it? Jack.
Spencer Sutherland
Jack Scott.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, Jack Scott.
Spencer Sutherland
He's a character literally developed to, like, tell what's happening. I was a school announcer being like. And now the kids are gonna go to. You know.
Trisha Paytas
And you're what, like, so if you lost £100, you're 290.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, 280. Yeah. Yeah. Something like that.
Trisha Paytas
Never talk about this on social media. You don't want. Do you not want it to be.
Spencer Sutherland
No, I think I have before, but no pictures.
Trisha Paytas
You know, people do, like, before and after is like, this was me then look at me.
Spencer Sutherland
I did that during, like, 2020, when it was like, you know that. Yeah. The transformation trend was going on.
Trisha Paytas
I can't find them anywhere. I looked, I googled. I was like. Spencer said, I don't think there's a real story. I was like, I do not see fat pictures. If you want it scrubbed, she remembers. Oh, right, because you guys went to high school together. Was he actually. Because people say they're fat. And you look and you're like, okay, you weren't really fat. Really did transform, but you've always been so talented. Like, you don't think about. Yeah. You don't see the weight. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. That's nice. Thanks. That's nice. That's a nice way to say it.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, he really did transform, but the talent overrode. You didn't know.
Spencer Sutherland
I just think I also carried my weight well. I just look like a big football player.
Trisha Paytas
Love that.
Spencer Sutherland
Kind of, you know.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And I also played sports and stuff. I just also ate the most food you've ever seen. It was crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. That's one thing I can't do, is Porsche control. I love food.
Spencer Sutherland
It could be like, ice. I just need a lot of it. I like ice. Give me a. You know what I mean?
Trisha Paytas
Like, ice chips.
Spencer Sutherland
Or it could be like, I just need a lot of food. I love, like.
Trisha Paytas
Well, did you have. Did you do, like. What'd you do then? Like, keto, where you could just eat, like, so much bacon and still lose weight?
Spencer Sutherland
No, I started running. I honestly, like, probably didn't eat the healthiest. I, like, ate not a lot of food, and I ran in the morning and at night. And I was also 17, so, like, it melted off easier.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
But I lost ten pounds for that white Christmas play. And I remember everybody was like, dude, you look awesome. And it just felt good.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And then over the summer, I had lost, like, 60 pounds, something crazy. And I went back for my senior year. It was the first time I had ever gotten any attention from girls.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And I was just like, you became addicted. You're like, all right, sure. I sure did.
Trisha Paytas
Interesting. Yeah. I feel like now with the Ozempic. Are you sad now that you weren't in the Ozempic era, where you could have just, like, literally, I'm big mad. Like, I don't work at this. I love the Ozempic air for everyone. Because all these people, as a fatty, like, you know, as a fatty, you're, like, so happy to lose some weight, you know, I'm sure they feel so good. But then you're also probably like, damn, where was this around when I was doing this?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. That's why I'm so big mad. I'm like, this could have been so much easier for me.
Trisha Paytas
It does sound so easy.
Spencer Sutherland
I know it's not easy. I know that there's, like, a lot of, like. Like, nausea and stuff that takes place. Sure, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah. But the. I think. What is it mostly Appetite suppressants. You don't feel hungry as much. You eat like a bite of something, which I'd be like, amazing.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
If you would ask me in high school, if there was like a magic pill and you could be £100, I would have taken it instantly. But now that it's out there, I don't know. I'm very like.
Spencer Sutherland
It's one of those things that, like, who knows what the side effects in the future are? I guess because it's so new.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Who.
Spencer Sutherland
So who knows? But also, who knows if you're gonna die tomorrow, eat a lot of fast.
Trisha Paytas
Food, so you could probably die from that too. I know. I really want to. My husband's always just like, I don't know, like, what if it's gonna be?
Spencer Sutherland
But what's your favorite fast food?
Trisha Paytas
Oh, gosh, right now it's Wendy's Spicy Nuggets.
Spencer Sutherland
I think Wendy's is my. I always come back to it.
Trisha Paytas
Superior.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. So good. They have this spicy chicken sandwich.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, yeah. Oh, their spicy chicken sandwich is better than Chick Fil A or any of the other spicy chicken sandwiches.
Spencer Sutherland
It is so good.
Trisha Paytas
Can you eat any of that anymore?
Spencer Sutherland
No, no, no. But I do give myself after the tour, I give myself a three day. Like, it's like a bender, but with food.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I love it.
Spencer Sutherland
And alcohol probably. I'm just like. I remember I ended a tour and I went to that Laurel Tavern bar. I'm giving him so many shout outs. I better get a free round.
Trisha Paytas
Shout out Laurel Tavern shots in there.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm gonna send them this link too. I gotta start making a list. I went after the tour the next day and I had like, I got their jalapeno burger and fries and I ate it and I was like, I wish I could have another one. I was with my friend. He goes, you just ended an entire national tour. Go get another burger. I got two more.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
And they're like this gourmet burger.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, how do you do it? Cuz your stomach has shrunk now and.
Spencer Sutherland
Then I got a pizza after and I ate the whole pizza.
Trisha Paytas
Which one? From Laurel Tavern?
Spencer Sutherland
No, from Crave Cafe. I don't know what else.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, that sounds healthy.
Spencer Sutherland
It was buffalo chicken, so probably okay.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. How can you eat that much now?
Spencer Sutherland
I don't know.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
But it worked.
Trisha Paytas
But you think it's still there? You still could eat a lot.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh. Oh, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
You just have to do the portion control.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah. I just have realized that I feel better when I don't, like, binge Also, binging is not healthy.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I was a binge eater, but I'm human. Like, I still do it after I pick my times.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I think. Yeah, I think that's amazing. So wait, so that's been, what, how many years? Thirteen. Thirteen, five. Yesterday it happened. You lost £100. That's amazing.
Spencer Sutherland
I was on the radio show and I said, someone asked how old it was And I said, 19. And they thought I was serious. Like, they didn't know. I don't know if they thought that I looked 18, but they thought, like, I don't want to. In case he's trying to actually lie about his age, I won't call you out. And I was like, guys, I'm not 19. It's fine.
Trisha Paytas
Do you not like talking about your age? I'd love talking about age.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't care. I'm 32.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, you're 32.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm 32. Yeah. I was being serious earlier.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay. I don't know, but I love to joke.
Spencer Sutherland
I love to joke about it.
Trisha Paytas
I'm so confused because I was like, wait, are you 23 or 32?
Spencer Sutherland
Also? Artists, influencers, actors are so sensitive about age, you know? So I think it's just funny to joke about it.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, yeah. I love talking about it because of that reason. Because I was so, like, I thought if I hit 30, I was like, I don't even want to live to be 30. Like, that's so old and decrepit. Like, I don't want to be that. So now I love talking about my age because I'm like, eh.
Spencer Sutherland
I love that, actually.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, 36. It's good to be 36. It's a blessing. Right?
Spencer Sutherland
But you're also, like. It's also. It's different now. It's not like it used to be. Like, when you turn 30, you can't be a pop star anymore. And now it's like, I've. First of all, I've never felt more like myself, but I've never had more success in my life than when I turn this age.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
And it just keeps getting better.
Trisha Paytas
No, that's what I always say, too. I'm like, actually, it's like when I got married, I had two kids and a husband, and I'm like, honestly, this is like the most successful I've ever been. Like, people want to see me on tour now. Nobody cared. Like, five years ago.
Spencer Sutherland
The Beacon Theater is crazy.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. No one, literally. My last tour was 2019. And maybe, like, shout out to 200 people came but it was like 200 people, so I was like, okay. So I was, like, kind of shook that this one did so well. So, yeah, it's like 36 with kids and still thriving. And I think I thought if I had kids, I'd have to, like, sacrifice career, but kind of like, isn't the case, which is great.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, that's really cool. I also love. I just love the studio. I love your place. I love talking to you.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah, I love talking to you, too. You're a tiktoker. I've noticed that in all your interviews. I was like, wait, he talked? Cause again, on TikTok, you don't talk. You're not like a tiktoker who's like, hey, guys, this is my meal today. Or something like that. You just sing really? On your TikTok. But your personality is so good, so I'm surprised. You've never done lives where you just talk to people.
Spencer Sutherland
I need to do lives more. I get a little. Yeah, it's a little daunting. Sometimes I think, why?
Trisha Paytas
Why do you.
Spencer Sutherland
I just want to make sure I look okay. And sometimes. I don't know. I don't know.
Trisha Paytas
Do you think you're, like, hard on yourself with the way you look? Do you think you have to present yourself like this? This is your artist, and you should look like this all the time.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I mean, this is what I slept in last night.
Trisha Paytas
You woke up with the pearls. Do you dress like this all the time?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes. I don't feel like. Not at the gym, obviously, but when I run into people I know at the gym, they're just like. I say hey to them. They're like, oh, I wear a bandana.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, really? Like, Bret Michaels style.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Love that. So you're still, like, rocker. You're still, like, still a musician.
Spencer Sutherland
I got my tattoos looking like, you know, rockstar. A rocker. Oh, I didn't wear one. Damn it.
Trisha Paytas
What?
Spencer Sutherland
I have the horseshoe. I have the horseshoe. I have the blue 72 ring.
Trisha Paytas
Wait, really?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh.
Spencer Sutherland
I should have worn it.
Trisha Paytas
This is very Elvis with all the rings.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. I mean, everything about me is a little, very Elvis. Except not really, though. Not my hair necessarily. My clothing style most of the time.
Trisha Paytas
You've Never done a 50s album song style? Because there's a whole, like, greaser tick tock community where they, like, live in the 50s. There's one called I forget. I think his name is Joey. I think he's in, like, Southern California. He dresses like Elvis every day, and he's like ripped and I'm like, okay, you never done.
Spencer Sutherland
No, because I've always liked. I've always liked having longer hair. It's always. That's always what I've been into. But this started.
Trisha Paytas
I feel like Elvis's hair was probably this length right when he copped it back.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Had like that. I do. I have little sideburns going on.
Trisha Paytas
Sideburns. It's also very Bridgerton. Yeah, yeah. It's very cool. But you no interest doing like a 50s?
Spencer Sutherland
No, I have interest in doing that. I think I've definitely done it just at home for fun.
Trisha Paytas
Just for fun.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Put the collar over the jacket and the high waisted trousers.
Trisha Paytas
Would you ever pull Adida von Teese where she just dresses in jeans and a T shirt and everyone's shocked. Everyone's like, whoa, you wear Abercrombie or something?
Spencer Sutherland
That'd be really funny actually.
Trisha Paytas
Just for like a Halloween day or something. Be like, yeah, as a normal person today.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I would. Well and it's funny like sometimes I'll just get coffee and like a T shirt and.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
But all my stuff is like kind of stylized now. I've realized all my pants are high waisted so I'm at least like looking casual.
Trisha Paytas
I love that. So if you get paparazzi, they're like, that's him.
Spencer Sutherland
Paparazzi.
Trisha Paytas
Do you get paparazzi? You probably do in street once. Really?
Spencer Sutherland
But I will say this, this has really, really been cool because I've never had this my life for the first time ever this year and a little bit of last year and especially the last couple months. I've never had so many people. Like everywhere I go I think I have someone that comes up and talks about seeing a reel or a TikTok really. And it's. And I'm at the phase where it doesn't. Like I'm. Happens to you every day, everywhere you go.
Trisha Paytas
No, no. Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I'm still like, really?
Trisha Paytas
Wait, really? Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
So I'm like, that's awesome.
Trisha Paytas
But you are like the TikTok boy right now. Like it's actually crazy how much you're just like over everyone's page. Like a. Before we started, like every person who asked who's coming on date and then I show them like, oh my God, that guy's everywhere. Like it almost seems like you're a plant. Like an industry plant or something.
Spencer Sutherland
Can you, can you clip that and get it to me? I'll put that on reels for me.
Trisha Paytas
I swear I was like, wait, this Person kind of came out of nowhere, and all of a sudden you're like, leave it in.
Spencer Sutherland
Leave all that in.
Trisha Paytas
You're dating like a superstar. You're auditioning for Wicked. And I'm just like, well, where did this person come from?
Spencer Sutherland
I was planted.
Trisha Paytas
By who?
Spencer Sutherland
Simon Cowell.
Trisha Paytas
Wow. Could you imagine?
Spencer Sutherland
That's who. We never finished this convo, but he. Most of our. Most of our interview.
Trisha Paytas
I know there was so many places we were going.
Spencer Sutherland
And then Elvis. Yeah, he sort of was the caliber he wanted, like an American on the show. And one of my managers had worked with him, help put some boy band together or something back in the day. And. Yeah, and they flew me over and acted like I came over on my own.
Trisha Paytas
They do that, huh?
Spencer Sutherland
Did it? Yeah. Did it. I'm sure you saw this in an interview, but I did multiple songs.
Trisha Paytas
No, I didn't know. Tell me.
Spencer Sutherland
I did multiple songs at my initial audition. I didn't. I just went to them straight away. I didn't have to go to anything before.
Trisha Paytas
That's so funny.
Spencer Sutherland
And I sang two songs, and they were, like, really complimentary, and it was, like, awesome. And then I sang one more, and they were all of a sudden, like, tough on me. And I was like, oh, if you even, like, watch. I do, like, a little bit of, like, a.
Trisha Paytas
You're like, what just happened? You loved me.
Spencer Sutherland
And then, of course, that's what they aired, but they want to have that journey of, like, oh, so that's all a TV show, man.
Trisha Paytas
What was this? What was the song that gave them. Ugh, not this.
Spencer Sutherland
Let's Get it on by Marvin Gaye. And I, like, kind of kill it a little bit. It's, like, a little gratuitous with the runs.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, I kind of love it.
Spencer Sutherland
There's a lot of runs.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Cynthia Riva over here. Just, like, doing all of it. Do you remember it? Can you sing a little or no do much in the morning.
Spencer Sutherland
It's another morning. I don't remember it.
Trisha Paytas
Okay. Are you just saying that maybe after.
Spencer Sutherland
The cameras stop rolling.
Trisha Paytas
You're shy now. I feel like you're such a singer in everything. I don't. We have a banjo that helps.
Spencer Sutherland
I can play that.
Trisha Paytas
So. And what was your good song that they liked? You know, dueling banjos.
Spencer Sutherland
I sang an original song that never came out. Like, it was just, like, me and electric guitar. And then I sang Earned it by the weekend.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Go. No, Say you were about to. And I cut it off.
Spencer Sutherland
I just. I was just doing that to. To remember if that was the right song and it was the right song.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, my gosh. Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
That's so nervous.
Trisha Paytas
The reality shows are one for the.
Spencer Sutherland
Money, you know, two for the show.
Trisha Paytas
They'Re running on Cook. I love Back to Elvis. Simon Cowell's favorite song is Suspicious Minds. That's his favorite song in the entire, like, world.
Spencer Sutherland
He's got good, good taste because that is the best song.
Trisha Paytas
You think that's the best Elvis song?
Spencer Sutherland
Best or favorite? Because I think it's probably the best. I mean, it was hit number one, like, for a long, long, long time after not being in the industry for 10 years. Once again, back to Elvis.
Trisha Paytas
I know. Well, you mentioned Simon Cowell.
Spencer Sutherland
This episode is just Elvis with Spencer Sailor.
Trisha Paytas
That's the title probably love for Elvis. Yeah. I did America's Got Talent and it was the same thing where they, like, just. They acted like I was auditioning, but they just told me they flew me to Austin. They're like, come to Austin.
Spencer Sutherland
That's what I'm saying.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. It's all kind of fake, huh?
Spencer Sutherland
It's a reality.
Trisha Paytas
Reality show that's not real.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Yeah, it really. Yeah, I guess. Yeah. But it is.
Trisha Paytas
So you're the only American on the UK one.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
And you got pretty far.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I did. I got all the way to the top 12. And I remember everything sort of changed and shifted and I don't think the British, because that was all, like, fan voted stuff.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
I don't think the British people wanted, like, an American to win, which I understand, but it was just fun while it lasted.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
Did you like the British, like, culture, the people over there, like, when you were there, like, you, like, you adapted to it.
Spencer Sutherland
It took me a minute because. Because it's a little different.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah.
Spencer Sutherland
But it was the first time I was ever out of the country.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
Ever. So.
Trisha Paytas
Wow.
Spencer Sutherland
And since then, I've been all over the world and. So cool.
Trisha Paytas
You're traveling the Netherlands, you said?
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, like Poland, Austria, Spain, Italy, Germany.
Trisha Paytas
Are they, like. Are they very German over there?
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Trisha Paytas
It's like the stereotypical.
Spencer Sutherland
I just saw. Speaking of Bielin, welcome in. I saw Cabaret with Adam Lambert. He had. He. He. We. We saw him after, too. He's. He's the best. He's been a good champion, too. Of like. Of like. Do you. Do you know him?
Trisha Paytas
I don't know him.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, he's so. He's the nicest guy in the world.
Trisha Paytas
Shout out to Adam Lambert and him and Cabaret. Clip this.
Spencer Sutherland
We'll Send it over. Yeah, keep it in.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, man. Did you love it? Was that your first time seeing Cabaret?
Spencer Sutherland
Yes. And I love the, like, they have, like, actors before and, like, walking around, one of the actors got out of character. He's like, oh, I like your videos.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, okay. But still in the German accent.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, but he's still in the German accent. And we thought that was so funny.
Trisha Paytas
That's so fun. Oh, my God.
Spencer Sutherland
So cool. And it was just the greatest show. And I can't picture anybody but Adam Lambert doing that part.
Trisha Paytas
Really?
Spencer Sutherland
He was.
Trisha Paytas
Before him, Eddie. Eddie Redman.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah. Right.
Trisha Paytas
He is from that Marilyn movie. He was really good. But Alan Cumming did it before.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, I know. That's like the goat. Like, that's like the one.
Trisha Paytas
But Adam Lambert probably crushed. I haven't seen any clips. I guess you can't film it.
Spencer Sutherland
His voice is unbelievable. Yeah.
Trisha Paytas
When I saw him on James Corden with the.
Spencer Sutherland
Oh, you should go see that show while you're there.
Trisha Paytas
There's so many shows. I do want to see it. We did get invited, maybe. There's so many shows to Kit Kat Club. Yeah. We only got we invited. There's like three other shows. I want to see Rachel Zegler. I want to see so many Barbie Ferreras in a Broadway show. So there's so many. I don't know. I would love to see it because I do love Cabaret. Did you learn any German over there? In Germany?
Spencer Sutherland
I kind of forget it now, but I would always. And I'll relearn it when I go back. I learn how to say, like, I love you and hello, so I can just say it on stage.
Trisha Paytas
Yes, yes, yes. Bringing back to Elvis. Do you know any German Elvis songs?
Spencer Sutherland
I do. Countries have a Wooden Heart. Clip that. Yay.
Trisha Paytas
I knew that's where it needs to end because that was so good.
Spencer Sutherland
You know how deep that is that we did that?
Trisha Paytas
No, my. This whole interview, I've been trying to get you sing. I try to get everyone to sing with me and no one does. So when people finally do, I'm like, yes.
Spencer Sutherland
Can't you see I love you? Please don't break my heart in two. Yeah, it's so good.
Trisha Paytas
No, that was always one of my favorites, a puppet show from GI Blue, and I just loved it so much as a kid.
Spencer Sutherland
That's one of my favorites right there.
Trisha Paytas
That movie him with Kids are so good. Like, it happened at the World's Fair. Like, everything he does with kids, he was just like a clam bake. When they talk about Confidence on the playground. I show it to my daughter in hopes that she'll, like, sing along and, like, yeah, feel something. But when I sing Elvis to my Elvis, she does get very happy. So I think there's something in there somewhere. Yeah. But thank you so much. This has been amazing. Thank you in every way.
Spencer Sutherland
It really has been fun to talk to you and I just. I appreciate you bring them in.
Trisha Paytas
And I can't wait to have. See all your shows, everything you do, for everyone to see this because.
Spencer Sutherland
And you should come to my LA show.
Trisha Paytas
Yes.
Spencer Sutherland
It's in April. It's not for a while, but.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. Well, maybe the Jingle Ball. What is the Friday? Ours is Thursday. Maybe we'll be back for it. But the tickets are probably sold out or what happened.
Spencer Sutherland
You don't have to get a ticket.
Trisha Paytas
I would love to see your shows. The Citadel. I would have.
Spencer Sutherland
That was actually a really good one to go to. It was acoustic and it was like. We were just, like. I was just having fun on stage and talking to the crowd and stuff. It was really fun.
Trisha Paytas
Yeah. I would love, love, love to see one of your shows. If you ever want to see one of my shows, we're in Thousand Oaks down the street.
Spencer Sutherland
When?
Trisha Paytas
December 15th. It's our last show. Are you gone?
Spencer Sutherland
I leave on that. That morning.
Trisha Paytas
Where are you going?
Spencer Sutherland
Back to Ohio for Christmas.
Trisha Paytas
Okay.
Spencer Sutherland
Just for. Just for a few days. And then I think I'm gonna spend actual Christmas here.
Trisha Paytas
And then your girlfriend will be back too, or is she in Ireland?
Spencer Sutherland
She's coming straight back from Ireland right before Christmas Day, so.
Trisha Paytas
Power couple. Power. Tick Tocker. Power collaboration. Power TikTok shout out Elvis.
Spencer Sutherland
Shout out Elvis.
Trisha Paytas
I'm here for this.
Spencer Sutherland
We apologize, but we don't apologize because that's what. That's who we are.
Trisha Paytas
That's what I was most excited to have you here today. I was like, I cannot wait to talk about Elvis because I have no one to talk about it with, so.
Spencer Sutherland
Well, and even when we're not on the air, please just. We'll just send voice notes back about, did you know that in 1967?
Trisha Paytas
That's my favorite. I love little facts like that. Finding out stuff about Elvis all the time. I'm like, you know, he couldn't tour outside of the US because of Colonel Tom Parker. He didn't have his papers to travel.
Spencer Sutherland
And all that stuff's true about him getting offered a million dollars for one gig and Japan.
Trisha Paytas
Oh, man. Makes me so mad. I have so much anger towards him. Well, anyways, all right.
Spencer Sutherland
We'll cut it out.
Trisha Paytas
Check out Spencer sutherland. The drama is out now. His Tour is worldwide. Mr. Worldwide. Next year, please come back and maybe we can duet. We'll do it again. Another song.
Spencer Sutherland
Maybe next time I'll bring my guitar.
Trisha Paytas
Sounds great. That'd be amazing. Yeah, we could do a TikTok club.
Spencer Sutherland
Yeah, we can. Ooh, we got a lot of stuff going on. Thank you for listening and watching.
Trisha Paytas
Bye, guys.
Spencer Sutherland
I love you, Trisha.
Trisha Paytas
