Welcome to Van Eyes Air.
Jamie McDonald
Thank you, my love.
Alan Sansar
You're welcome.
Jamie McDonald
Let's go to Paris.
Alan Sansar
It's a great idea.
Jamie McDonald
Alan, welcome to Cat on the Loose.
Alan Sansar
Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to be here.
Jamie McDonald
I should say thank you for having us in this spectacular airplane.
Alan Sansar
Well, as I tell everybody is welcome to the good life.
Jamie McDonald
Right? I know. Welcome to the good life. So 10 million questions. I know you don't have a lot of time because the plane actually has to go somewhere. So let's do this fast and furious.
Alan Sansar
Hey, look, that's the best thing about what I do. We are actually really on aircraft that moves around. And I actually do fly around on the aircraft compared to other people that talk about jets all the time.
Jamie McDonald
I know.
Alan Sansar
Just talking about them, you know, by the way.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah. This is not like a prop for social media. This is like a real spectacular plane.
Alan Sansar
Right.
Jamie McDonald
And so let's talk about this plane first. This is a long distance.
Alan Sansar
No, this. So this is not a super long distance. This plane goes about five hours.
Jamie McDonald
Okay.
Alan Sansar
You can go to New York on it. You can go to Cabo.
Jamie McDonald
Okay.
Alan Sansar
You can fly up to Canada or down to Mexico, anywhere you like.
Jamie McDonald
Okay.
Alan Sansar
And we can also go to Hawaii from la.
Jamie McDonald
Oh my God. Which I've never been to by the way. So we're gonna have to. Yeah, I know, I know. I need to make enough money so I can fly one at a time. But so if somebody wants to go to Europe on a plane like this, they have like to stop in New York.
Alan Sansar
So you can do that. But we have larger aircraft which are called ultra Long range aircraft. And we can go straight from here to London or from here to Paris, wherever your destination.
Jamie McDonald
Okay, so explain to us for people that don't know, because I follow social media, you know, I live vicariously through your travels. Like I was telling Anthony, one minute you're here, you're in la, then you're in Monaco. Like, oh, my God, what a life, what a life, what a life. Do you need a flight attendant? By the way, our positions always.
Alan Sansar
So we won't. You're definitely not gonna be flying. You're flying with me everywhere we go.
Jamie McDonald
Thank you.
Alan Sansar
It's a, it's a growing field. This is a very exciting time to be in private aviation. The industry's, you know, experience a robust growth and we have some fantastic aircraft.
Jamie McDonald
Obviously, this is something for the super rich. Right. It's for an exclusive, exclusive minority.
Alan Sansar
You know, I wouldn't call it a minority, but there is a lot of people that own corporations. Right. And that can use the aircraft to get around. The point is ease and access. So if you're asking me, why private? So you have ease and you have access.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
To everywhere you want to go. And we cut off hours and hours on your travel time. So we went from Los Angeles to Portugal in nine hours.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God.
Alan Sansar
Right. Now, keep in mind, there is no tsa, there's no security. So that's nine hours from point to point, and then you're in your hotel.
Jamie McDonald
In 15 minutes and you're done. No, I mean, it's a totally different life. But why do you think there is such demand? Do you think there are more wealthy people or do you think there are more companies that decided this is really worth it? I'm going to put this in the budget.
Alan Sansar
So generally there's more demand for travel. So if you look at commercial airliners, and those are the big brands that, you know are on the other side of the business, they are flying a lot more. But private aviation had its own growth because the economies for the whole world grew. Right. So people can't afford a little more luxury in their life.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah, for sure.
Alan Sansar
And, you know, this is a Bombardier Challenger 850, so we have smaller aircraft. It depends on where you're going. How comfortable do you want to be? Do you want to have a flight attendant? Do you want to have food served?
Jamie McDonald
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Where's my champagne, please?
Alan Sansar
Right. And that's, that's kind of the benefit of it all. And then we have super small aircraft, which are called light aircraft. Right. And those will only take Six people, and you have to be your own flight attendant.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, yeah. I remember because like I said, when I was married, we used to fly private a lot around the United States, and it was always the tiny ones. I never had a flight attendant, but I do remember. And tell me if I'm right, if it's still the same, because this was like 10 years ago. I remember we could actually, like, pre order the food that we. Even if it was from. Here we are in the Van Nuys airport. By the way, we used to go to Las Vegas a lot because we had a house in Las Vegas. And it's like what, a 40 minute, 30 minute flight? Right.
Alan Sansar
Usually it's about 35 minutes to 40 minutes max.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah. So let's say I want to do that. You can call in and pre order what you want as snack.
Alan Sansar
Right, That's. So those are all the fringe benefits that nobody really talks about.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
Right. So we cater the food that you like. So it doesn't matter if the food is from, let's say, Waldorf Astoria or Wolfgang Puck or whatever chef you like. We actually order the food, have it delivered on the airplane and have it ready. And then if you're flying international, of course, then you know, it's really extravagant. So we'll have multiple meals. We can actually cook everything on the plane and serve everything from espresso to your, you know, favorite cocktail.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God. The good life. This plane fits how many people? That's a huge one, right? Yeah.
Alan Sansar
So this plane fits 15 people.
Jamie McDonald
15 people, right.
Alan Sansar
And we have planes that go up to 18.
Jamie McDonald
So this is one that more like mostly corporations use. Or do you have private clients that would charter a plane like this?
Alan Sansar
There is. So it's a big mix. You know, you can't really answer that. So there's a lot of entertainers, there's a lot of entertainment business, obviously, because we're Los Angeles based. Right.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
You got a lot of celebrities that fly these things. A level celebrities. Right. And then you have all the corporate executives. And if you consider a corporate executive and their salary. Right. Do you want a CEO of a major corporation sitting in a terminal as you're paying them thousands of dollars an hour?
Jamie McDonald
I know.
Alan Sansar
So you don't. And then. So you come here and you cut off the tsa. You also cut off the walking in a terminal and walking out. And all of a sudden a trip to Las Vegas with us is 35 minutes, 40 minutes at the most. Right. And if you go commercial, it's a three hour turnaround.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, at least if everything, if everything goes right, which if you have pre.
Alan Sansar
Check and got all that stuff, especially.
Jamie McDonald
Nowadays, like the tr. I know, I always. And it's interesting that you're mentioning that because I know a lot of people, the criticism is like, this is ridiculous. It's so extreme. Expensive. No, no. But people forget that our time is worth a lot. Right. First of all, we're not gonna get that back ever. Yeah, but like you said, if you're like a high profile CEO or a celebrity, if you have the money for that matter, all the hours that you're wasting hoping that everything is gonna go right, you can be productive doing something else with your life and your time.
Alan Sansar
Yeah. And you know, people are getting smarter as well. Consumers are getting super smart. So you know, there's times where we travel and then group of friends get together, you know, couples. So you have three couples or four couples will share a large jet.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, I love that idea.
Alan Sansar
So instead of flying first class somewhere, this is a much more elegant, faster experience. And I like to call it vvip. Right? It's a super VIP experience.
Jamie McDonald
It's super vip.
Cat Zamuto
Let's take a really quick break and talk about a problem that I know most of us have. Especially after super crazy long work days. Puffy eyes, dark circles, eye bags, tired looking skin. And this is why I partnered with Marie Marine. And now I am madly in love with this brand of collagen eye gels, collagen and hyaluronic acid face masks. They use ocean sourced natural ingredients such as pearl extract, algae extract, everything science backed, everything sustainably formulated which is so important. Ethically and responsibly sourced, this USA brand really, really, really works. I use my face masks every Sunday and I have fantastic skin all week long. And when I come home super tired, I put the eye masks at night and I wake up with fantastic, fantastic skin. I invite you to check it out. You can buy all of their products right on Amazon. It is spelled Mar M A R E E or right on their website, I M A R E e dot com. Check it out. I fell madly in love with everything they do.
Unknown Speaker
And if you guys love taking care of your bodies and health as much as I do, I invite you to check out this brand that I love so much. Nutra Harmony. Look well, feel well, be well, stay beautiful on the outside with care and health from the inside. Nutra Harmony is your daily dose of perfection, confidence, health and beauty. Each supplement is made for you with love and care. Made in the USA with globally sourced all Natural ingredients. I love their biotin with collagen.
Cat Zamuto
I am obsessed with their hair mask.
Unknown Speaker
They have so many incredible products. I invite you to check out their website and shop now. Nutra harmony.com or you can go directly on their Amazon store. You will absolutely love the quality of their products. I am completely hooked and I highly recommend them.
Jamie McDonald
Let's talk about prices because I know a lot of people are going to ask. A lot of people are curious. They don't have any idea. I know we're sitting on a huge one. So let's start with this one. How do people get charged by the hour or by the flight or by the distance? How does it work?
Alan Sansar
So every charter company has a little bit of a different formula, but it's usually per hour. So there's a standard rate per hour and then depending on the size of the aircraft. So you start with the, let's say smaller, medium, large, and then the ultra larger aircraft that go to Europe. And what you want to do is select an aircraft that fits what we call is your mission. Yeah, right. So if you want to go from here to, let's say, Las Vegas, you don't necessarily need a large aircraft.
Jamie McDonald
Right. Like this one.
Alan Sansar
Right. You could go a little bit unless.
Jamie McDonald
You have 15 people you want to take.
Alan Sansar
And if you have a lot of people in your party.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
So I kind of tell people if you're at 6, there's a special size, or you're 9 at special size. And if you're larger than that, then you got to go with an aircraft.
Jamie McDonald
Can you give us an idea of the cost?
Alan Sansar
So let's say you're going to Las Vegas. It would be a $15,000 trip. 15, 15,000 to go from here to.
Jamie McDonald
Las Vegas in a small plane, in.
Alan Sansar
A large aircraft like this. Right. And that's not bad when you think about 15 people.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah, exactly. If all the 15 are paying.
Alan Sansar
Correct. Usually one person pays.
Jamie McDonald
I know. Usually it's like one person and they're entourage.
Alan Sansar
That's how we usually work.
Jamie McDonald
And do they Pay for the $15,000 includes the cost of gas, includes the.
Alan Sansar
Fuel and the crew and everything else.
Jamie McDonald
Everything. And so if you think about. It's not that crazy.
Alan Sansar
Yeah.
Jamie McDonald
Because like, I don't know how much a ticket cost to Las Vegas. But like first classes, I personally think is very expensive compared to how shitty it is.
Alan Sansar
Right. Well, there isn't. There isn't much in first class.
Jamie McDonald
Right, right.
Alan Sansar
I think commercial aviation, they kind of cut the quality and the service standards substantially more and more.
Jamie McDonald
And more.
Alan Sansar
The biggest thing that bothers me about flying commercial, and don't get me wrong, I fly commercial.
Jamie McDonald
Do you. I never seen it.
Alan Sansar
So four or five times a year I do fly commercial.
Jamie McDonald
That's very rare, though.
Alan Sansar
So I have that experience. And I know. But when I fly commercial, I have all the VIP passes and the extra get in the backdoor card or whatever that is.
Jamie McDonald
Like, I'll try to do that. Can you teach me?
Alan Sansar
But even with all that, you still have to put up with some of the kind of the red tape around airports, right? Yeah, it's the traffic of getting there. It's the.
Jamie McDonald
It's a nightmare.
Alan Sansar
Dealing with the nightmares now.
Jamie McDonald
The crying babies, the crazy drunk, the person that opens the emergency.
Alan Sansar
So I'll tell you one thing, like for Los Angeles, for example, you know, like, we can come to lax, we can go to Burbank Airport, we can come to Van Nuys, we can go to Camarillo, we can go to Santa Monica. So you got choices. And how far are you from which airport will pick you up there?
Jamie McDonald
At the end of the day, it's all about money, Right. Because if somebody calls and say, I want this plane right now at lax, I want to fly to Florida. If they pay the price, you guys do it. You move the.
Alan Sansar
So absolutely.
Jamie McDonald
How long does it take to move the plane from Van Nuys to lax? Like, you go up and down like this.
Alan Sansar
Yeah. You literally. You go up and then you let.
Jamie McDonald
You gotta go around right back.
Alan Sansar
You don't have to go. Yeah, you don't have to go over. So you know, when you fly, you communicate with what's called air traffic control, right?
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
And as soon as they find out that you're making a short hop, or we call it a reposition, as soon as they find out then that you kind of cut off the traffic, and then you go and you land.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, and is that. So obviously there is a private. A place for private aircraft at lax, Right.
Alan Sansar
So we don't go to the commercial or the terminal side.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
We have our own private terminals. They're called FBOs. That's just like the building we walked through on our way here.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
Right. And those are meant just for the private jet service. So we get our fuel, we get our food, our catering, everything delivered here. Yeah, Put it on the plane.
Jamie McDonald
Everything's separate. Everything's. Before we started filming, you were mentioning to me the cost of. Because we were saying, let's go to Paris, let's go to Paris. What would be the cost of flying because let everybody deserves to dream, right? Most people will never be in a private. Let's be honest, most people will never be in a private plane in their lives, or they're going to be like me, just sitting on, not going anywhere. But what would be the cost to go from LA to Paris? Let's say on the. Let's say on this one here, 15 people.
Alan Sansar
So this one won't actually go there, but.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, yeah, this one.
Alan Sansar
You need the large area.
Jamie McDonald
This one would stop.
Alan Sansar
Let's say we take a Gulf Stream 550 or a Gulf Stream 650, which.
Jamie McDonald
You work with, by the way, which we have.
Alan Sansar
Yes. Now, those are the planes that people call G5 or G6.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
Like, if you ever heard those songs, that's what they're talking about. And those planes are about the same. They fit 15 or 18 people.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, really?
Alan Sansar
You know, from, let's say from LA to London and back, you're looking at about $300,000 all in.
Jamie McDonald
Does it wait for you there?
Alan Sansar
It waits as long as you like.
Jamie McDonald
So if you want to be there for a month, the plane would sit there and wait for you.
Alan Sansar
So that's. That's another thing. We could bring the plane back. The plane could be flying around. Right. It all. It all depends on the logistics.
Jamie McDonald
But if you. If I say I want my plane to wait for me, like Kim Kardashian, like, I don't know when I'm gonna leave la, la, do you charge them to keep the plane there?
Alan Sansar
So, yeah, so there's all kinds of fees associated with parking and aircraft. So you would be paying all those fees as long as the client or the owner of the aircraft is happy with that, then you keep the plane in London.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God. Now that's an interesting question. Just popped my mind because I thought about Kim Kardashian. Obviously, the gazillionaires, they own their own plane.
Alan Sansar
Correct.
Jamie McDonald
But it's an absurd cost to own your own plane and maintain it and keep it there.
Alan Sansar
Correct.
Jamie McDonald
And then there is the next step, which is just hire your planes when people need it. So why do you think some celebrities say, I'm going to own my own plane? Do you think they just have unlimited money? It's worth it for them.
Alan Sansar
So there's a couple of things about that aircraft ownership. There is all kinds of depreciation, there is tax benefits for having these things. Right. So once you get to a specific level of money, what are you going to do with your money? Right. You're going to buy real Estate and another house and a hotel. And then. Then you're going to start getting to jets. And then once you have a couple of jets, then you get into the big yachts. Right. 50 million, $80 million yachts.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God.
Alan Sansar
It does make sense. However, the people that own their own jets and they fly their own jets, it's because they don't want anyone else on their plane. You're the only one.
Jamie McDonald
Because they want to leave their personal.
Alan Sansar
Things in the plane, and it's yours. You customize every little piece.
Jamie McDonald
True. Do you see their planes? Do you know, like, who is the biggest celebrity that has the biggest plane? Do they compete with each other?
Alan Sansar
So, you know, because of technology now, everything is searchable on the Internet. Yes. You really can't hide. So an average person can, if they want to look, find out exactly where a celebrity went or where they're flying.
Jamie McDonald
To, which is kind of bad. Right? Like, they have no privacy.
Alan Sansar
It's possible, but that's the point of private aircraft. There's ways where we get around those things and give you 100% privacy.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
By the way, that's the benefit of flying private, is we know how to get you there and nobody will know. So there's no paparazzi and there's none of that stuff.
Jamie McDonald
Yeah, there's no paparazzi here.
Alan Sansar
Of course, that's the benefit of not going to a terminal. Right, so then you don't have paparazzi. We don't. This is completely closed off.
Jamie McDonald
How long have you been doing this?
Alan Sansar
So I've been in general aviation business for about 15 years, but for private, I've been doing it since the pandemic, since 2019.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God. And you amassed a huge, huge following on Instagram. People love following your trips around the world. Congratulations.
Alan Sansar
Thank you very much.
Jamie McDonald
So if anybody's interested in finding out more, if anybody's interested in flying with you guys, where do they find your Instagram?
Alan Sansar
You can just go to my Instagram, Alan Semsar and send me a message.
Jamie McDonald
I'm gonna put the link there. And you connect and your crew, your team, they book the flights and everything. I see. And I told them, I told my crew, you guys should follow him because you live the most dreamy, incredible life. You wake up in different places all the time. It's pretty incredible. Congratulations on all the.
Alan Sansar
Thank you very much.
Jamie McDonald
Can you spill the tea before I let you go, like, and tell us who is the most famous celebrity you guys ever flew?
Alan Sansar
So that's the one thing I can't talk about. We're not allowed to talk about that, but I will tell you who gave me permission.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, okay.
Alan Sansar
So I had the privilege of flying Alicia Keys and her husband once, and that was fantastic. Absolutely.
Jamie McDonald
Do you have. Even if you don't tell us the name, do you have someone that you flew? They were like, oh, my God, what an a hole. What a bitch.
Alan Sansar
So look, every. Every business, every level of business, every. Every avenue has people that are difficult to deal with.
Cat Zamuto
Yeah.
Alan Sansar
But, you know, my job and our job is to make sure they're catered to all the way to the end.
Jamie McDonald
But in general, most people that you deal with are super nice. Even the famous ones.
Alan Sansar
Absolutely. I don't think there's any. Anyone that's difficult to handle as long as you know who they are and what they want. And if you deliver what people want, you have customer satisfaction.
Jamie McDonald
I mean, with this VIP life, why not, right?
Alan Sansar
Absolutely.
Jamie McDonald
And last but not least, can they bring their dogs?
Alan Sansar
We allow dogs. You can bring as many pets as you like.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God. Okay. I'm gonna try to make a lot of money so I can start flying with you and bring my dogs.
Alan Sansar
Well, let's go.
Jamie McDonald
Thank you, Al. And this is such a pleasure. I mean, guys, look at this plane. Seriously. That's the life that. Where are you going next?
Alan Sansar
So from here, we're going to San Francisco, and then we're going to take a trip to Europe.
Jamie McDonald
Oh, my God.
Alan Sansar
It's going to be amazing.
Jamie McDonald
I'm going to up for whatever. Flight attendant, personal assistant. What? I want to have your life.
Alan Sansar
I love it. Let's go.
Jamie McDonald
All right. Thank you so much. You're the best.
Alan Sansar
That was fantastic, right?
Jamie McDonald
Yes. It's going to be so fabulous.
Alan Sansar
I love it.
Cat Zamuto
