A
Welcome back to catching up with Katie. We do have our normal people back, except Nate's not here, so. Just kidding. But Abigail hasn't been on the last two episodes, so. Well, welcome back.
B
Cheers.
A
Well, it's convenient that you chose to not be here for all of the topics we wanted to talk about with you, so we've saved them all for this moment.
C
That's not true. We talked about everything. The congress topic has been. Has been overly talked about, not extinguished. What's the word I'm looking for?
A
Overdone? I don't know.
B
Great.
C
Something like that.
B
Glad to hear.
C
But now we're talking about next year's congress.
B
We can do that.
C
Oh, yeah. We're going to Christmas in New York.
A
We talked about going to Connecticut.
D
Yeah, we just kind of just talked.
B
I'm just not even gonna listen to.
C
That's wild, these plans, because it's like half her bodies, the bottom screen, she's.
A
She's where she wants to be.
B
She wants to be under the blankets, and I am on top of my blanket.
A
She's where she wants to be.
C
Not feeling like being on camera today.
B
Yeah, that's understandable. She gets that from her mommy.
A
How about that? How about. How about that fall special that's supposed to have happened already?
E
I'm not saying anything.
C
Me either. Because I believe, like, we even, like, threw out dates. We even, like, throughout dates, which couldn't happen. Well, and then we also mentioned doing it in New York.
A
We all have. Here's the thing. And I. I just suffer from not having enough hours in the day and not enough bandwidth in my mind, because I want to do that fall special the way it's supposed to be done. I had all the ideas. I wanted to do it. It's just like, when. Like, when that, you know, that's the problem.
C
Which is what I will give Abigail. Her credit, which is what she said, upon the conception of the idea in this room, is that we would not have time to do it.
A
And you know what?
C
But she stuck with it and she humored all of us.
A
She did.
B
I tried. I even threw out some days. But, you know, at one point, we.
A
Had the idea of making it super YouTubey. And I. I don't remember if Lindsay volunteered or if she was. Was volunteered by Nate, but that we were. What was it that we were gonna do?
D
Oh, yeah, we were gonna go to a.
C
It was freaking great.
D
Let me tell y'.
A
All.
D
These plants was great, and y' all.
C
Would have loved it.
D
I don't even want to say it.
C
Because we might do it one time.
B
No, we were gonna go to Maze, essentially, and Lindsay was gonna dress up in a turkey costume, and we were.
C
Going to have to fall.
A
Yeah. Or.
B
Or something scary like a turkey costume.
C
Lindsay in a turkey costume would be scary.
B
And she was going to chase us and scare us around the corn maze as we frantically, like, tried to find our way out. And whoever got out first, I think was supposed to, like.
C
Like, if she caught you, you would be eliminated.
B
I don't know that. That was.
C
That was my idea.
B
I don't know.
C
If it caught you, you'd be out of the race. And if you made it out, then, like, Katie would pay us, like, $1,000 or something. Like, it would have been wild.
A
That would have. I don't know.
B
That is. I do remember that.
D
Yeah, we would have had a sponsor.
C
And it would have been great. It would have been. It all been worked out, I think.
B
I think we. Butterball was sponsoring.
C
That would be cool. And it would be like a little Butterball segment.
B
Think we, like, worked that out.
D
What we need to do is have.
C
Like, next year, like, start planning now. Like, this Christmas special, actually. Yeah, like, this Christmas special. Like, we should have been shooting that.
B
Like, a month ago, and.
C
And here we are.
A
And, like, my cryptic self, though, goes to, like, never mind. Like, if we filmed it that far ahead of time.
C
Oh, do you think it would ruin it for you?
B
I. I think it would.
A
Oh, yeah, I know.
C
See, that's the thing is, like, is that we want to have, like, this great produced movie, but I don't want.
D
To have it at Christmas.
A
I don't want to wrap.
B
Yeah, I don't want to wrap presents right at Halloween.
C
Right.
B
I want to dress up.
C
Yeah.
A
And also, like, we did the Shop.
F
Up last year for the Christmas special.
A
And it made things so much more magical.
C
Like, I know.
A
I watched this video last night, and it made so much sense, and it made me a lot more motivated to do holiday things this year. Like, not for content, not for the special, but, like, hey, everybody, come over and we're gonna do, like, an activity that is surrounded by, like, Christmasy things, and it has a Christmas theme. And we're gonna watch a movie, like, because I watched this thing of this guy being like, oh, the. The holidays aren't special anymore. Well, maybe it's because. And it just, like, listed everything that all of us do in today's day and age. And it's like, yeah, there's no whimsy and magic, because anytime you want something, you order Off Amazon and it gets here in a day. Your mind never has time to, like, wind down and want to do an activity because you're sitting there scrolling on your phone. Like, there's just like. I don't know. It was just very, like, you have to create the whimsy. And the magic, essentially, is what the video was saying. And I'm like, do it.
C
So you're gonna take it?
A
Yeah, I'm gonna do it.
C
Upon yourself. And if there is anybody to do that, it would be.
A
And I'm like, I'm gonna do it. But people have to also be receptive and help me. You know what I'm saying? If I'm like, I'm. If I'm planning it, essentially, if I. If I say we're doing it, what's. What's a good date for y'?
C
All?
A
If you want to be a part of the whimsy, you have to participate.
C
That never came out of your mouth in regards to the fall special.
A
No.
C
Okay.
A
No, no, no, no, no. We're talking about Christmas right now. Yes, we're talking about Christmas right now. Yes. We're talking about sitting down, watching a good movie, and like, let's recreationally. Let's recreationally make hot, like, off the clock.
C
Together, she's out.
B
Together, off the clock, she's out.
A
Never mind.
C
In our free time.
A
I'm gonna look for some other friends, and then we're going to.
D
What you need to do is just.
C
Post on your story. Just post on your story. Hey, we're watching this movie. Here's the address. Here's the time. Anybody wants to show up, you should.
E
Do like a discord.
A
Now.
C
Dude, I would hop on that discord.
E
Dude, you should. That would be fun. I would do that.
C
Yeah.
E
I joined from my house. I'd watch the movie and that'd be fun because then we could all watch it from our own spaces individually, but.
C
Still talk to each other.
A
But listen to me.
F
And now for today's sponsor, which is kitsch. You've heard me talk about their shampoo and conditioner bars before, both the volumizing and the rice water bars. But let's just go ahead and talk about this rice water protein shampoo bar and conditioner bar once again, because they are so great. I personally washed my hair a day ago, and I've been in the rain. I've been outside in the humidity, and it is still so soft and so.
A

A
It would like, like I want to do a dirty Santa thing where it's like, It's a cap, $10 or $15 or something like that. Like it's not fancy but we're doing like, like a, you know, Yankee swap, Dirty Santa, whatever you want to. White elephant, whatever you want to call it. Or I do like, you know, we all, I don't know.
C
And bring food.
A
Do la potla, you know, I don't know.
C
Would you like have like a s' mores bar? Have like, you know.
A
See he.
C
A s' mores bar just consists to where it's unattainable. Sometimes a s' mores bar consists of the s' mores ingredients laid out on.
D
A table next to a fireplace.
A
I haven't made s' mores since I was a child over our like little fire pit outside because it's a gas thing. Would it make the s' mores taste bad?
C
No. We had one, one time that it was like just like this little burner thing that was like that big around. You just like turned it on, plugged it in. But also that was electric.
B
There are plenty of places where we could do real fire throw, throw a couple logs on and have, have a little fire.
C
Or we just do it over the oven.
B
That too.
A
That's gas.
B
And that's also gas. That's what I'm saying.
A
I'm, I'm, I'm searching for whimsy.
C
Yeah. Campfire. Then we do like campfire stories.
B
Yeah.
C
And then we can sing together.
B
I, I have also been searching for whimsy in terms of like decorating. I recently been lighting a lot of candles just trying to feel something.
E
I put out, put out some dish towels on the oven that had pumpkins on them.
A
Exactly. That's what I'm saying.
E
And now it just feels, it feels a little different.
A
You Know, like, you gotta create it. You gotta set the scene.
C
Those are all things that my wife takes very seriously that I don't care about, but would definitely notice if it wasn't there.
E
Yeah.
A
So we have a. A fake fireplace at the moment in our home because we did not have a chimney put in and stuff like that. And we have yet to use it. It's like a. What? Is it gas or is it just fake?
B
I don't know.
A
But it.
C
You can have a gas.
B
It's gas.
A
It doesn't have to have, like, whatever it is that doesn't have to have a chimney. And I'm like, I want fires this. This winter. I want a fire to be lit. Fireplace for me by my husband. We did that stoked.
B
We did that a lot last year.
A
I don't feel like we did. We.
B
Yeah, because it has the fake. It has a little, like, coal things in there that you. That you like.
A
I grew up with a real fireplace in our. In our, like, living room. And every night after, like October, mid of October, every single night, there being a fire in my home and the crackling of. And my dad's stoking it and like.
B
Oh, my God, we had a gas fireplace.
C
How. We were. We had a real one.
B
We didn't have a real one, but.
C
Real ones are goaded.
B
Yeah. The gap we. I mean, the one that we had was also always on, though.
C
But just fireplaces in general.
B
Yeah.
A
Like, I did, like. And I remember my dad would tempt my nana to come over and hang out with us, because he'd be like, I made you a fire. And then she'd be like. And she'd come over and sit in front of it, and it was like, oh, so fun. He'd. Before she would come over, he'd bring one of the chairs with the ottomans over to the fire and set it right in front of the fire for. It's like baiting, you know, it's like how to catch a nana. Put this. Put this in front of the fireplace. Anyway, we've kind of rambled this entire time about nothing. We do need to actually catch up on, like, what's kind of been going on. So, you know, we got back from Congress last week and then we had just a week of catching up, essentially, with calving season with Bo's been. Been hurting, and we've been trying to figure out what. What's going on with him. And we're still kind of in the midst of all that and building the new barn and just kind of settling into the winter, and it's starting to get cold, so. I mean, really. What? What? Has anything crazy happened this past week? Halloween party. We.
B
Yeah. Matt got a haircut as well.
C
That's crazy for me.
A
Matt got a haircut, didn't come to the Halloween party. Neither Matt nor Nate came to the Halloween party. We.
C
I didn't have a fun weekend, though. If it makes you feel better.
A
You did.
C
I did not. Lily's back teeth are coming in.
B
Well, that doesn't make me feel.
A
I don't want Lily to be in pain. That doesn't make me feel better.
B
Well, you also didn't bring her last week when you said going to.
C
So what if I brought her one day next week?
A
Don't.
B
Don't say that.
C
I won't bait you.
E
You are, though.
D
If it's a day that we're not.
C
Doing a catching up with Katie, I can bring her.
A
We're not gonna do one on Friday, and we're filming on Friday.
C
I won't be here Friday anyway.
A
Okay. The Halloween party, Jonathan and I were.
C
It looked good. Your costumes were great.
A
We were Khaleesi and Caldro put a picture up. He put it. Put it up.
C
Quit putting your hands over there.
A
Put it up over here.
D
It's, like, not out of frame.
A
Put it up over here. So Jonathan. It took until yesterday for him to get the eyeliner off.
C
Really?
A
Yes.
C
I didn't notice that, though. But it was necessary.
A
But also, it was so necessary. He had. And I. I did, like, the waterline and stuff. He. I was, like, sitting there doing it, and I was trying to be as gentle as possible. And the whole time he's just like, you do this every day. Like, he was freaking out with me touching his eyes.
C
Oh, I can't do, like, the.
A
The.
C
Yeah. Like that. Yep. No.
A
Well, because. Yeah, I was like, you have to do. I was like, we have to do your tight line.
C
No, no, no, no, no, no.
A
And then I just, like, smudged so much black on his face. And honestly, it was a vibe. Like, his blue eyes without the wig on. The wig killed it. The wig killed it for me. But without the wig, I was like.
E
It was so, like. It was like Caesar. Caesar Flickerman.
A
Yes.
B
The like.
C
Oh, yeah.
D
So that was his last.
A
So he had, like, the. The braid and everything. And so for a moment, without the wig, I was like, he looks so hot because he had on those shirt. Everyone's always like, why does Jonathan have to be shirtless? You don't know a sweaty man until you've met My husband. That's nasty. I'm so sorry. But he gets hot at these parties because he's. He's hosting, he's playing cornhole. He's doing all the things. He just prefers to be shirtless because it just makes him more comfy. Okay. So I try to find costumes where he can be shirtless organically instead of having to just take his shirt off. So Khal Drogo. The costume is shirtless. It just is. And so I was like, he looks hot without the wig. And then I caught a glimpse at one point of him scootering off with the wig on down the driveway. I don't know what he was going to do, but he was on his little scooter, and it just gave you the ick. So much ick. And he knows that I told him, and that's fine. Like, if your husband never gives you the ick, you're lying.
C
So Maddie told me he looked at me last night, and she just was like, I hate the way you breathe sometimes.
B
It's fair. It is. It's fair.
A
The way you breathe sometimes.
E
Sometimes.
D
I was just walking in my shot.
C
That's love, baby.
A
Who was your favorite costume from the night?
C
Did you go, yes.
A
She came.
E
Yes.
C
What did you go as? I haven't seen a picture. I don't even know if I follow you on Instagram.
B
I didn't do it in post.
C
Maybe that's.
E
You do follow me.
B
Would you go as I was a fox.
A
It was a good costume, too.
C
Do you have photos?
F
Yeah.
B
Okay.
A
Did you take photos or was it just my video?
B
I have photos.
A
Yeah.
C
It'll be a screen grab.
A
Just a screen screen grab. So she. So she was a fox, and then Lindsay was a cat, which was hilarious because Rebecca's littlest girl, who's, like, obsessed with cats, she was like, I like Lindsay's costume. She went as Sabrina.
B
Lindsay wasn't a cat. She was cat woman.
A
But. But in Kinsley's head, she was Sabrina, the black cat from the barn. So she's like, I like her Sabrina costume.
C
How far did you go with your fox?
B
Not very far. I did. I had a full tail, ears. I had this, like, fur wrap thing. I drew on, like, a nose.
C
You didn't go, like, bodysuit?
B
No, I had some furry boots. That was kind of it.
A
It was like, cute girl fox costume. You know what I'm saying? Like, not full literal, but, like, it was readable. You know who she was?
C
Painted your face and, like, made it look like a fox. Yeah.
B
Painting. Painting your face. Would be cool. I'm just not very good at makeup, like looks for Halloween. I never go that route because I sip. I can't do it.
A
So I had a lot of anxiety because I was like, I waited last minute I got this costume off of Amazon because I, I generally had all of the good intentions to like build a costume, not just buy one. And then it got to like three days away and I was like, crap. So I was very happy that it all fit because in the years past, I've had to just throw something together because nothing would fit. But I'm trying to think, oh, Alyssa. Alyssa's costume was fantastic.
B
I think I was gonna say, I think Alyssa's was my favorite.
A
Alyssa works in our, in the barn. She's worked there for a couple of years and she came as a scarecrow, but her grandma handmade her scarecrow costume. And it was like, it was like.
B
Patchwork little cuts of fabric and she had like yarn like, with like straw mixed in, like holding her hair up. And it was, it was really.
A
Her makeup was good. Like she did it. Yeah. But, yeah. So we had our Halloween party where we, we had to wean off of the honey baked ham. Here's my thing. I. This, this time of year is like.
D
What, Wean off the honey baked ham?
A
Yes. So like honey baked ham is my favorite thing on the entire world. Like, it's so good. And so my entire life, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas are all honey baked ham. Like they all warrant a honey baked ham. And so my nana growing up, because she's where we would go for our holidays. And she always lived super close to us and during the last 10 years of her life, lived on my parents property. So she would always get like one for before and one for during. And we'd have leftovers. So we'd like literally have like a pre honey baked ham, a post honey baked ham, like, and then a month later we do it all over again. And then a month later we do it all over again. Because it was just like, it's so good. So I was like gnawing on the ham bone, weaning myself off of it, being like, okay, I've had honey baked ham for the last five days. I should probably not anymore.
C
Let's get on some Hawaiian rolls.
A
Yes. And like, I'm just like a little scavenger sitting there like gnawing on it. It's so good. The other big thing this week has been just trying to like maintain Bo. And Bo is my 25 year old gelding. We just Found out this morning that he has torn not only his suspensory, which is a ligament in his back leg, but also his deep digital flexor tendon. And those things are very hard to fix when they're happening at the same time. And so we're doing what we can right now. We have a course of action we're taking and we're hoping it works, but we're kind of being faced with some hard decisions probably here soon if it doesn't. So that's. That's like, I hate to end this on, like, a down, but, like, that. That's just kind of like one of the realities of this week. So we've had a lot of.
C
I was a happy catching up with Katie.
A
Like, we had a lot of ups. You know, my dad bought six more cows today. You know, just out of. He was like, hey, I bought six more cows, so I get it from somewhere. Yeah, I do. But so we have that couple that are going to be calving soon, and so calving season's not done, and honestly, we're only like, two and a half months away from folding season, so there's lots coming.
C
That's also crazy.
A
Yeah, I know. He just rested his head, like. Yeah.
C
I'm ready, though. I'm ready to bring the meta back out. I'm ready to hang out with y' all again.
D
So, like.
C
Because, like, we hang out so hard for, like, three months straight. It's awesome.
A
Well, there's, like, a good two weeks of us being, like, board games, meta. Let's play.
B
I don't even know that it's phases.
C
I love. I love the phases of folding season, though, because it always. There's always something different every two weeks.
A
But we.
B
Yeah.
A
And this year. Yeah, this year, there's not.
C
What we need to do, I think, is we need to lean a little bit more in to, like, you said, the whimsical side of things and not.
E
We should watch movies.
C
How about you don't.
B
We never watch movies.
C
We always watch movies.
D
We just turn it on and everybody.
A
Goes, yeah, you are Miss Lights out at eight, dude.
D
Yeah, we need to watch movies.
B
Can we start the movie at before, like, 10:00pm.
C
Yeah.
A
Well, I will say it is like they try to stay at home as late as possible with their babies, and then they come over and so.
B
Baby, that's not my problem.
E
If. I'm just saying, if you want to watch movies, be there early.
A
I do think you're gonna be able to hold your whimsy a little bit better. Having Lindsay to swap out with this year. Like, maybe we could. Maybe we could play a little more board games, a little more movie watching.
C
I was thinking, like, food, too.
F
Like, food.
C
Bringing food. Like, I would bring some food. Like a baked brie. Like some pizza rolls, maybe.
A
I. I would say we'll have better luck. We'll have better luck if y' all plan on, like, cooking it at my house. Because the. The amount of times that you're gonna cook it and then bring it, that's not gonna happen. You can't tell me you're gonna.
D
Well, yeah, I don't.
C
I mean, regardless, I'm just talking about, like, having food for sure. Like, we.
A
We.
C
We did cookies and ice cream.
B
And, like, you did come in clutch with stopping to get cookies and ice cream on the way.
C
That was the one thing.
B
Had so many cookies. Oh, gosh, we can't do that again.
C
That was the one thing.
B
We can't do that again.
C
We could do that again, though.
A
They made, like. They made cookies almost every night and, like, multiple batches.
C
What if we prepped now? And what if we, like. Well, now we're getting into the holidays.
B
Jonathan bought so much ice cream.
A
Oh, my God. The amount of ice cream we ate, it.
B
We.
C
There was times where we were low.
D
There were times where we were out.
A
So, you know, we had to order.
E
It to the barn. Yeah, we did.
A
I will say we did. We did try to, like, cook dinner a lot of the times and, like, you know, have dinner if everyone was coming over so that it's a little less of a sting.
C
What was it?
E
The old steak, Mashed potatoes and broccoli?
C
No, I was. That was. No, the other.
A
Don't hate on my.
E
I'm not hating.
B
I'm just saying.
E
I thought that was the usual.
C
It was, but that was a break from the other one, the pulled pork. Poured pork.
E
Poured pork.
A
I didn't make it hardly at all this past year because no one wanted it.
D
So that's the thing is, like, you've manifested this into an idea that nobody likes it. We love was just for one time, like, three years ago.
E
Not only did it, I just remember us eating it out of bowls. Like, we just microwave it by itself.
D
No sides.
E
No side. Besides, there was times where we didn't even have any buns and we're just, like, eating.
D
And then it turned into, like, anytime you opened your fridge, there was just always gonna be, like, some remnant of.
E
Pulled pork, a glass container from however long ago.
A
It was also chili. Yes.
D
And, like, ever since then, that's just.
C
The joke has stuck. But you have made so many other things since then.
D
Not chili.
E
We don't joke about the chili, though. We don't joke.
C
That's not funny. The chili's fire. Chili was fire.
B
I know.
A
I need to. We need to get a couple deer so we have, like.
C
Yeah, I liked when you kept experimenting with the passionate penny pictures stuff.
A
Yeah.
C
You always had different snacks.
A
We're almost into that season because I don't really cook a lot during the summer. We, like, do stuff outside until nine o' clock at night now.
C
Now we're in pastry season.
A
We're in cooking bacon season. We're like, it's cold out. I want to make potatoes, potato soup, tomato soup for everybody.
B
You know, I mean, potato soup is a thing.
C
It is good.
B
Yes.
C
It's fire. So good with some cheese.
B
Potato soup is so good. It's like potatoes, bacon.
C
It's pretty much a baked potato soup.
B
Yeah.
A
You know what? I think Jonathan's mama made that one once for us.
C
Taco soup, cheeseburger soup.
A
I. I'm gonna make a lot more soups this year. I've decided maybe we should just have.
C
Like, a segment of the catching up with Katie, and then we don't have to talk to each other as much or, like, come up.
A
We're just mic'd up in the kitchen.
C
Yeah, we do like, hey, this is a kit. This is a little or.
A
So we've been. We've been experimenting with live streaming a little bit, and so we did that at Congress for the meet and greet just to see how people liked it. And a lot of people tuned in, so we were like, hey, bowling season's a perfect time to live stream some. If we are in need of a video or, like, you know, we're wanting.
C
To do a little extra live stream chess, like, stuff.
B
Yeah.
A
Well, if we live stream, like, hey, we're gonna cook dinner together and we're gonna make this. Like, everyone's gonna make something.
C
Rod is, like, on the meta glasses.
D
Sitting on the couch, and.
C
Now you could actually, like, show that screen up, though. And, like, that could be cool too.
A
You can show the screen.
D
Yeah. It would be like, I don't know.
C
If you could do it, like, on Facebook Live, but I know you could on Twitter.
A
We've been doing it on YouTube live is what we were doing.
C
Maybe.
A
I don't know.
C
I'm sure that'd be cool, though.
A
I don't know what just happened outside, but. All right, we have to go film another video. Hopefully it's not raining. We're trying to catch up still after being gone so much. And I think our next trip, we have until middle of November, which is the World show. So that's gonna be super exciting.
C
I'm excited for that.
A
Hope y' all enjoyed. Let us know what you would like to see in future videos or any questions or things like that, and we will see you in the next one.

“It's convenient that you chose to not be here for all of the topics we wanted to talk about with you, so we've saved them all for this moment.”
— Katie (00:15)
“You have to create the whimsy. And the magic, essentially, is what the video was saying. And I'm like, do it.”
— Katie (05:06)
“We just Found out this morning that he [Bo] has torn not only his suspensory...but also his deep digital flexor tendon. And those things are very hard to fix when they're happening at the same time ...we’re kind of being faced with some hard decisions probably here soon if it doesn't work.”
— Katie (19:49)
“So Khal Drogo—the costume is shirtless. It just is. And so I was like, he looks hot without the wig. And then I caught a glimpse at one point of him scootering off with the wig on ...and it just gave you the ick. So much ick. And he knows that I told him, and that’s fine. Like, if your husband never gives you the ick, you’re lying.”
— Katie (14:30)
“The other big thing this week has been just trying to like maintain Bo. And Bo is my 25 year old gelding. ...We're doing what we can right now. ...But we're kind of being faced with some hard decisions probably here soon if it doesn't.”
— Katie (19:49)
"This year, there's not...What we need to do, I think, is we need to lean a little bit more in to, like, the whimsical side of things."
— C (21:32)
“So we've been experimenting with live streaming a little bit...bowling season's a perfect time to live stream some. If we are in need of a video...just wanting to do a little extra.”
— Katie (25:44)
