It finally seems we're hitting a critical mass when it comes the police's new Flock ALPR cameras. Communities are having town halls, city council meetings, and even going rogue and tearing the cameras down themselves. This is because in the short time police have had access to these camera networks, they have wrecked havoc on their communities: spying, stalking, and falsely arresting people state to state. We talk about the issue at large and then focus on a particular incident in Florida, where a cop working security detail in TV studio uses ALPR cameras to stalk an extra he met on set. Next, we discuss what we know so far about the infuriating killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. This just happened last week in Houston, so everyone is still trying to scramble for the facts, but we put together the clearest picture we can from all the different reporting that's happened so far. Then we talk about the upstate New York man who penned a letter so powerful to Todd Lyons it resulted in ICE showing up at his door and his freedom of speech going out the window. Lastly, there's the Atlanta cop who has been ordered to pay $21 million out of his own pocket to the estate of an unhoused man he paralyzed years ago

We got a fun ("fun"?) one for y'all. After discussing Jaffer's horrific injury, the boys go through the police headline roundup of the week, followed by a slew of new stories. First, a police chief responds to a sugar daddy request on Facebook. One thing leads to another and he's hit with murder charges. Then we discuss the horrifying death of Darius Jervon Chappell, mauled to death in Tennessee by a police k-9 while he was restrained. Then, we take a rare trip to Canada. We got Canadian police using AI to beef up their drug bust photos and a Canadian police chief going on camera to beg his force to stop harassing women. Lastly, we discuss the next terrifying player in police surveillance: school buses. Ashton can't put eye drops in his eyes and has trouble swallowing pills. Can he call himself an adult? After going through the headlines of the week, Jaffer and Ashton discuss four specific stories: a New Orleans cop beating up a podcaster who was critical of him (yikes), the DEA in Albuquerque intentionally allowing hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills to flood the city, the terrifying sentences given to the Prarieland ICE detention center protestors in Texas, and the tragic death of John Jinuwine. The Knicks won the title in five games. Unfortunately, the police were still busy committing crimes, so we had to record another episode. This week on KAWPS, we kick things off with an especially packed police misconduct headline roundup before digging into several major stories from around the country. We cover the bizarre incident in Pasadena where officers accidentally shot each other during alleged off-duty "horseplay," examine what is known so far about the killing of John Mendoza Jr., an unarmed teenager shot by Houston police inside his own home, and look at the growing nationwide resistance to massive AI data center projects. We also discuss new reporting on how federal law enforcement is preparing to respond to opposition against data center construction, and the Texas community fighting to save a public park from being replaced by a data center development. If you enjoy the show, support KAWPS on Patreon for weekly bonus episodes:patreon.com/kawpsthepodcast

DISCLAIMER: We don't have any inside knowledge on whether or not the cop this episode centers on was lying or not about his overdose, we are simply making fun of the news for not providing any skepticism on a very suspicious story, and acknowledging the many occasions when experts have had to weigh in and state that it is extremely unlikely a cop can overdose from just simply being around fentanyl. That being said, we got a very fun little episode for y'all. A cop claims he overdosed from "handling" drugs in the evidence room, the story of the Phoenix father who is facing 20 years for defending his home, a New Orleans cop who sure does seem to personally know a lot of missing children, and more fun with Kash Patel. So much to talk about this episode. Jaffer and Ashton are in tears talking about the Detroit boomer cop who can't seem to stop accidentally posting explicit photos and videos on Facebook, denying he did it (and denying all his accusers - separate issue). We got the San Francisco DA refusing to press charges on four Baltimore cop who allegedly gang assaulted a woman in SF. More cops arresting sober drivers, including one who stole his victim's laptop (only to be discovered by FindMyiPhone), and the boys discuss Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's latest flick.
