Cara, the Capybara, or Capi, as all of her friends back home called her, had been back in Peru now for a couple of days. From time to time she found herself thinking back fondly on her time in Sleepy Forest and wondering what her beloved cousins Coco and Kira were up to, and remembering the damp pinecone scent of the forest, its cool, shimmering air, and its whispering trees, which was so unlike anything to be found in her Peru. But even though she missed Sleepy Forest, she was absolutely overjoyed to be home. And this pleasant mingling of emotions, the sweet nostalgia for her time in Sleepy Forest, coupled with the sheer pleasure of her homecoming, made Cappy marvel at how much our little hearts could contain. There were many reasons Cappy was glad to be home. She got to see her family, her parents and her grandparents, her cousins and her aunts and uncles, and fill her belly up with all her mum's delicious food rice, stuffed peppers and potato casseroles and vegetable skewers cooked on an open flame. She got to wander through the hot and humid jungle with its chirruping of cicadas and trees with humongous waxy green leaves offering small pools of delicious shade. She got to bathe in the refreshing waters of the icy river while the sun, like molten gold pouring down from the sky, danced and skipped on the water's sparkling surface. But most of all, she got to see her best friend, Tito. This very morning, Capi and Tito were hanging out by the river's edge. Cappy was lying on her back on the lush grass, shielding her eyes from the sun, which was already hot even though it was so early, and watching Tito flying hither and thither. Tito was a bright yellow, tiny chickadee, and he was so nifty and swift at flying that you often couldn't tell when he was on the wing that he was a bird at all, more like a golden dart or a rogue sunbeam, until he settled momentarily on a rock or tree and took shape again. Today he was enjoying himself, playfully chasing dragonflies and snipping his little beak at the air. When he got tired, he folded his wings and settled on a high up branch and looked down at the river flowing by. Wow, Said Tito. It really looks magical today. From here you can see all the rainbow fish travelling downstream. Cappy lifted herself off her back and raised her head, but from this angle by the riverside, all she could see was water.
