Narrator
Cuddle is excited. I mean even more than her usual day to day level of excitement. She bounces down the stairs in the morning with a hop, skip and a jump, landing at the webbed feet of her mother. Now, says her mother with a smile on her face, I wonder what on earth can have you so very excited excited today? Cuddle looks up at her with huge eyes. You don't remember? She asks.
Character Voice
Is it.
Narrator
Is it that you promised to help me in the garden this morning? Her mum says. Cuddle grins and shakes her head.
Character Voice
Hmm.
Narrator
Is it that you are going to take a really, really long nap this afternoon and leave the house so quiet I can hear a pin drop? Cuddle grins again and shakes her head once more. I know, I know.
Host 2
It's that you have a lot of.
Narrator
Homework you're really excited to spend the weekend doing. Cuddle pulls at her mother's arm. None of those. Her mother smiles down at her. Oh well, I guess it's because it's your turn to host the Sleepover Story Club. Is that right? Cuddle grins and nods and bounces off into the kitchen. On the first weekend of every month, she and her friends take it in turns to host the Sleepover Story Club. It is, in Cuddle's mind, one of the best days of every month. And the three times a year when she is host, she takes it very seriously indeed. There are four friends who take part. There's Cuddle and of course there's Kevin. Cuddle can't do anything without Kevin and Kevin can't do anything without Cuddle. Then there's Harry the Hoglet. That's a baby hedgehog with the glasses that slip down his nose whenever he sneezes, which is a surprising amount. And finally there's Tammy, who's a lovely pointy nosed, big bottomed fluffball of a wombat. They all met at the Kookaburra Kindy and one way or another all discovered their shared love of stories. It was Harry who first suggested they have a Sleepover Story Club and he shared his idea very quietly, with a lot of apologies and in a shy little voice worried that that the others might not like it. Cuddle gave him a hug straight away. Tammy gave him a high five and Kevin, well, Kevin grabbed little Harry by the paw and started dancing with him there and then. It was a done deal. The Sleepover Story Club was born. Cuddle popped a basket over her arm and put one hand into her big brother Huggle's hand and and her other hand into her big sister Snuggle's hand and the three of them set off towards Betty Badger's bakery. She was off to pick up some treats for her sleepover and Huggle and Snuggle never missed an opportunity to head to Betty Badger's. They were the best cakes and biscuits and buns in the whole of Sleepy Forest after all. The three platypi skipped along in a line and they queued up at the bakery, one behind the other, looking eagerly over the shoulders of the badgers and foxes and rabbits and hedgehogs who were in front of them, trying to see what Betty Badger had on her shelves today.
