Rey Mysterio
Thank you. No, mine. Appreciate it, man.
Josh Labor
Thank you for having me here in.
Sebastian
Idol to millions, to millions, man. How's that even feel? Millions and millions. Jesus. Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Thank you guys, man. I really appreciate it. You said I'm a custom day, so.
Josh Labor
Yeah, we kind of.
Sebastian
Man. How's everything? I mean, you had a couple busy days or already?
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, but life is good, man. I can't complain. We just closed up this weekend with the purchase of the first company that gave me the opportunity.
Sebastian
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
To wrestle on national television, which is triple based out of Mexico City. Yeah.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
WWE just picked that company up, and it's going to take lucha libre to a whole different level.
Josh Labor
I mean, just like you did with the wwe, bro, this is like a full circle moment. It's kind of crazy.
Rey Mysterio
Incredible.
Josh Labor
So.
Rey Mysterio
So I remember leaving San Diego at the age of 17.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
And that was only because my boy, Conan. K Dog.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
He said, bro, we're opening up this company in Mexico City. This is your big opportunity to be able to show what you got in the ring on television nationally. My bro, I can't leave. I'm going to high school. I was in 11th grade.
Sebastian
Oh, my God.
Rey Mysterio
He goes, what are you gonna do? Graduate and wrestle and work? I said, well, I know my parents aren't gonna let me leave. And then he said. And then I told him, you know what? Going to school. I have a part time job and my girlfriend. He goes, if your girlfriend loves you, she'll wait. And she did wait. Now we're married.
Josh Labor
Oh, my gosh.
Rey Mysterio
But at the age of 17, I took off and kicked my career off at, in Mexico City.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I mean being a kid from San Diego. Tijuana.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And going to a city like Mexico for the first time, it was shocking and huge. So many people, but I was doing what I, what I love.
Sebastian
Incredible.
Rey Mysterio
And now 31 years later. Nope. 34 years later, it's like now WWE purchased AAA crazy. And here we go. Lucha Libre is now officially stamped and on the map.
Sebastian
It's crazy cuz I'm seeing so much Lucha Libre nowadays, like in, in mainstream media as well. I feel like it's getting covered a lot.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. The fact that you see now more mass wrestlers even before I know the purchase of triple A, that you see more mass wrestlers is cool. We are definitely, it was slow, but we were putting our stamp on, on American wrestling with the Lucha Libre stamp, which is the mask, the tradition, the high flying.
Josh Labor
But bro, how does it feel like you are the reason for that? Like you really, like you made the mark, like you changed the game for all these other people. I, I, and I feel like you wear it with a badge of honor.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, I, I'm, I'm proud to have given the opportunity to be able to, to pave that path.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Right. But obviously there were many that came before me. Guerrero.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You know, but, but my size, my height, that definitely opened up the doors for other smaller wrestlers. Because in Mexico, you know, we're not as big as, as Los Gavachos.
Sebastian
Yeah, yeah, of course.
Rey Mysterio
But, but we have our own. And I think the, the wrestling is what, what really stood out to everyone.
Josh Labor
Yeah. I mean we're giant in the heart. You know what I mean?
Rey Mysterio
Yes. Just the way 100 the way we.
Josh Labor
Like do our thing.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, most definitely. So I'm just happy that I was given the opportunity and that I was able to pave that path along with the ones who came before me. And that now you see so many coming in before the question was like how can I get there?
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And, and you know that struggle of what if I go and I don't make it? How can I get there? Or can somebody put in a word? Now it's like all you got to do is show up, show out, do your work and stand out.
Josh Labor
And stand out.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
You said. How old were you when you went to Mexico City again?
Rey Mysterio
14. I was, I was 17. My first official match at the age of 14.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
In Tijuana and you won't rate me.
Josh Labor
Cereal the first time you came out?
Rey Mysterio
No, I thought it was going to be Rey Mysterio, my Uncle, who is the originator of the name, he didn't have any kids at the time, so I was like his, his adopted son, my mom's younger brother, who actually just passed away in December.
Josh Labor
Oh, wow.
Rey Mysterio
But he, he, he trained me. I remember stepping in the ring at the age maybe four or five years old. By the age of eight, I was already like, this is, this is what I want to do. And I was dedicating my time. I played no other sports. Yeah, wrestling was my thing, really. And by the age of 14, I felt I was ready.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
At the time, this was late 80s, early 90s. There was the, the juniors, like the son of, were very popular during that time. So I always thought I saw myself as Eliko De Rimson.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Or Rey Mysterio Jr. Yeah.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And when my uncle says, okay, you think you're ready, let's go. And I'm like, yeah, he's gonna give me a name because he's very good at designing, like, outfits and coming up with names for other wrestlers.
Josh Labor
Oh, okay.
Rey Mysterio
Kids that were breaking into.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
So when he said, you can be called the Green Lizard.
Josh Labor
The Green Lizard?
Rey Mysterio
No, like, obviously I was thinking that in my head. I, I didn't tell him.
Josh Labor
You didn't?
Rey Mysterio
But, but I was, I was hoping, man, I thought I was going to be the son of Ray Mr.
Josh Labor
Junior.
Rey Mysterio
And I kept my mouth shut. I said, green Lizard. I wrestled under that name for one time only.
Sebastian
That's amazing that you had the respect not to say anything and just take it cuz of the, of the respect that you had for your uncle.
Rey Mysterio
Yes, yes. So I, I kept my mouth shut.
Sebastian
Like it is what it is.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, yeah, I'll take it. I think Lizard not, not really understanding that. What I really had to do is prove myself slow and sure. But I was like, all right, take it. I wrestled one time under that name. And then after that, he came up with a different name. He said, you know what? Your style is very fast and very aerial. We're going to call you the Hummingbird. And I wrestle like that from the age of 14 all the way to the age of maybe 17.
Josh Labor
I like it.
Rey Mysterio
And after that, one day, just out of nowhere, I was already established. People kind of knew, they knew who quality was. And next thing you know, I was getting ready to go in the ring for a match. And I go up, it was a tag match, two against two. And then my uncle comes out and he says, hey, grabs the mic, says, as you guys know, Kolibri is, is my nephew. And from this day on, he. He's no longer be named Kolibri.
Sebastian
No way.
Rey Mysterio
He is going to be Ray Mysterio Jr. And I was like, what the.
Sebastian
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
It's almost like your uncle was a storyteller 100, right? What an interesting man.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Yeah. And that, that really changed my life because I really didn't feel any pressure of performing a certain way. But once the name was passed on to me, I was like, damn, now I really gotta kick some ass. I gotta stand out.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And that's exactly what I.
Josh Labor
Boy, did you stand out.
Rey Mysterio
So after that is when the opportun came to go to Mexico.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And I took it. And this is all I've ever wanted.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
So that's crazy, bro. It's such a blessing to be able to find like your. Your passion at such a young age and to be able to like execute it throughout your life. Like, it's so cool that you got to really live that out.
Rey Mysterio
Yes, yes. I remember going to high school and like, hey, there's a wrestler here. Obviously back then Olympic wrestling was cool in school, but lucha lib only if you lived in border towns.
Sebastian
It was cool.
Rey Mysterio
And San Diego with Tijuana, people would go to. To the wrestling every Friday or Sunday in Tijuana. So it was kind of cool. I stood out. I went to school with POD as well.
Josh Labor
Oh yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Oh yeah.
Josh Labor
Oh, but you have a song. You have like two.
Sebastian
You're in a music video. No.
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
The whole song.
Rey Mysterio
So MAD one, the creator of. Of.
Sebastian
I totally forgot about that.
Rey Mysterio
And WrestleMania 22. MAD1 Pod created the theme song.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
That's when I came out. They were playing live.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
On stage. And. And I became world champion that night.
Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
Bro. Rap. You have some like musical.
Rey Mysterio
I don't know about that. Yeah, I remember they threw me in the studio. Obviously they. They worked with the voices so they can amp it up, but. Yeah, that's definitely not my.
Josh Labor
Was that fun to do though?
Sebastian
It was fun.
Rey Mysterio
It was fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Sebastian
I totally forgot about that POD stuff.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
When you guys went to high school together.
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Josh Labor
That's crazy. Yeah, that's crazy. So did you end up graduating or did you have like. What was that situation? Cuz you had to drop out right.
Rey Mysterio
When I left Mexico.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
My parents said, you're going to. You're gonna. You're gonna go. You're gonna come back and finish high school. I like sure, 100%. I left. I was there for about a month and a half before the company actually kicked off. Triple. And when it kicked off, there was no turning back.
Josh Labor
Wow, bro.
Rey Mysterio
My first. My first national TV spot. To be able to perform in front of a live crowd and on television, like, that really changed my life. Just. It was. It was. It was a feel of ecstasy, man. In front of. And I remember the city was Veracruz.
Sebastian
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
I was 18 years old, and it just was just incredible. Like, wrestling. Tijuana was cool because, you know, a lot of fans coming from. From San Diego and Los Angeles.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
But being on a. On a stage where now you have cameras.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Recording you, and you have to make sure you. At that time, you don't. You don't really trip on. On. On the cameras. But. But now that I get older, I think about all that stuff. I'm like, man, it was crazy. It was a crazy time.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, bro.
Josh Labor
As you're telling these stories, I can see you, like, you just put yourself back in there. Like, you. I could just see how, like, big this was and meaningful this was to you. You've had a lot of moments like that in your career, of course.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
It's kind of crazy.
Sebastian
And one of the moments I want to talk about is like, okay, so you're in Mexico now and you're just people. You're. The reaction to the crowd is. Is. Is positive, I'm assuming. And who was the first Mexican mask fighter that was famous at that moment? Because when I grew up, I'm watching Blue Demon, I'm watching Mascarita Sagrada del Santo.
Rey Mysterio
Did you.
Sebastian
Yeah, of course. All of them. Like, because my cuz I was. Since I was a kid, my parents would just send us to Guadalajara for like, two months. So I'm just kicking it with my primos and I'm really. And they love it, you know, I mean, we're running around with Mascarita Sagrada, like, around the street playing ch. You know what I mean? Like, so who was that wrestler that. That you fought first? You're like, holy. I kind of made it when I.
Rey Mysterio
When I had to. When I faced him in the ring or.
Sebastian
Who was that first guy that you're like, wow, I can't believe I'm.
Josh Labor
I'm in the ring with.
Sebastian
Ring with him.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, my God. Yes. There was several.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yes. The fact that I was. I was put in a match at a very young age next to Elio Del Santo and Octagon at the time. Pero. Yeah. There's so many legends that I. That I grew up watching in Tijuana that now I was wrestling by Their side. Eye to eye. Yes. Yeah. Crazy. Really, really crazy.
Sebastian
When they started to know about you, how was the respect?
Rey Mysterio
It was a bit hard.
Sebastian
Yeah, it was a little bit hard.
Rey Mysterio
The acceptance, the acceptance was, was a bit tough at the beginning really. And they would kick my ass in the ring. Not literally, but they would, they would kind of just. They would prove themselves and they would want me to prove myself as well. Defending myself.
Josh Labor
I love that.
Rey Mysterio
It was, it was just part of.
Josh Labor
Yes.
Rey Mysterio
That's how wrestling is like that. So there were many, many guys. There's a group that were three brothers. Lozestru Torres and in Mexico it's very famous to do the mask versus Mask.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Mascara Caballero, Mask versus Hair.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And aaa. The owner of aaa, Antonio Pena, also rest in peace. His vision was, was like a Vince McMahon vision, you know, at the time, in the early 90s. So he, he saw something in me. Skinny kid with the mass. But I was connecting with the people and I actually took all three of their hairs of the Destructores. Wow. I started with one mask versus hair. I shaved the first guy. A month later, mask versus Hair. I shaved the second guy. Third guy, masked versus his hair. I shaved all three guys. I think it might be the first in history. Yeah.
Josh Labor
So you, you really were like challenged by these guys. Like they really wanted to see that you were about it. Right. Like you had to earn your respect.
Rey Mysterio
100. Yes.
Josh Labor
Now, now there's like new guys coming into this game and stuff. Do you see yourself kind of doing like the same thing towards them? Like making sure like they, they're, they're earned their spot? So to say.
Rey Mysterio
Yes and no because the times have changed. It's very different now and then especially being, being here in wwe. It's, it's different game. It's a different game. But, but also we try to help out each other as much as we can.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Especially from one Mexicano to another.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
If I can give any advice or guidance or I open up the door to say if you ever have any questions or you need help with something, let me know.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
That's that back then that probably wouldn't happen. Yeah. So. So we just got to be open minded. We got to help the next generation at least. In my, in my point.
Sebastian
Was there ever like an American wrestler here? Like maybe. Because when I was a kid it was wwf, right. It was like smackdown.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Was there somebody that you look, you look forward to one day kind of being or wanting to like be kind of like him or have that power or the way that. Because being a wrestler, I feel like the most important is what you just said, connecting with the fans. Right, right. Is there somebody that you wanted to, to be kind of like or somebody who just simply you respected so much an American wrestler.
Rey Mysterio
So I, I took many attributes from, from different wrestlers that I grew up watching. Because even though I was training Lucha Libre and Tijuana, I would watch WWF at the time.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You know, every Saturday at 12 noon, I would turn on the TV and I would watch. I think it was main event at the time. Saturday, Saturday, main event. And I grew up watching like Randy Macho Man Savage, Bret Hart.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Shawn Michaels. So Bret Hart used to always come out to the ring and he would wear the pink shades. He would pick a kid in the front row, take off the shades and put on the kid. And the kid was so excited. So at one point when I, when I was part of wwe, I would come out with the mask on top of my mask. Ah. And then I would take it off, I'd find a kid in the front row and I put that mask on. Wow. And he would be Rey Mysterio. Yeah, yeah. So those are like little things that picked up that, that were really cool.
Sebastian
I can't even imagine how that little kid felt, man.
Rey Mysterio
So I've seen like, damn. I ran into kids that I've given a mask to when they were kids and now they have their kids and they're like, ray, bro, you changed my life, bro. Eight years old, front row here. You gave me the mask. I still have it. Now my kid is a fan. So that to me is like, yeah.
Sebastian
I kid you not. That's crazy. That's really cool, dude.
Josh Labor
I've seen like videos of you like where you're like leaning into like the crow, stuff like that and people just can't continue. They're like kissing them and stuff like that. Like that's so badass.
Rey Mysterio
Every now and then.
Sebastian
Chill. And I've always wondered this too, cuz I see you and you have the most spectacular moves. You know, it's like that's like your signature, right? Other than yourself, who's. Who, who's like finishing move. Did you absolutely love back like or till this day or even before. So like, was it the stone cold stunner? Was it the people's elbow? Like, like my favorite was. Remember Xbox when he did the.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, yeah. The Bronco Buster. Yeah, yeah. He'd have the guys in the corner, he'd jump. Yeah, I actually stole that move from X Pac for a While really I was doing it in wcw. Oh, yeah. But definitely the stunner was one of the classics.
Josh Labor
Yep.
Sebastian
You know, but it was, it was doing the stunner, but it was the person that would. Taking it, that taking it, that really make it.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
So that.
Josh Labor
There's a good point.
Rey Mysterio
2, 2 videos or images that pop in my head. There was, you remember Razor Ramon, Scott hall, he was, he was part of DX at the time, but he, he took a stunner one time from Stone Cold and when he took it, he just took it. Bounced up.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
It was like frozen midair.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Dropped on his back. So not too long ago, my son Dominic was also wrestling, took the same move and he made it look very similar to the one that Scott hall took at the time. Yeah. Rest in peace, Scott hall as well. Yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
Bro. So your style is like high flying style, right?
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
What's crazy is that like I heard this interview where you were talking about how like you'll, you'll just like start concepting like a move. Right. And you don't necessarily practice it the first time you actually do it.
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Josh Labor
In the ring.
Rey Mysterio
Yes. Yeah, that is true.
Josh Labor
Because you can't, you can't risk getting hurt as you're practicing the movement.
Rey Mysterio
I'd rather not. If I'm gonna take the risk, I'll take it in the ring and if I it up, I fuck it up.
Josh Labor
He'll just come up with it and he's like, I'm do it live.
Rey Mysterio
So that, that was one thing that I've always had because I've always been very innovative and creative with my moves. Yeah, I like to go to the arenas.
Josh Labor
Yep.
Rey Mysterio
When we're there, I'll sit in the bleachers and I'll kind of look at the ring and I'll, I'll think of stuff. I can jump to this rope, to this rope and maybe pull a moonsaut here. So I'll envision it. If I feel like I can do it, I'll just try to knock it out in the ring. Yeah. If I feel like I need to at least jump from one rope to another, but not do the full move, just get the bounce from one to another, I'll probably practice that. But then I'll execute the move in the ring and maybe nine out of ten times it's happened.
Josh Labor
And I feel like that's just like a testament to your experience because I feel like, you know that ring like the back of your hand so you're able to really like visualize yourself doing it and know what it's going to feel like before you even do it.
Rey Mysterio
Most definitely. Most definitely. The experience and. And the. The trust, the confidence that I have, you know, to be able to play with the ropes and. And not only that, to make sure that the guy that's on the receiving end is there to make sure his body protects me when I fall.
Josh Labor
Right.
Rey Mysterio
That's. It takes two.
Josh Labor
Damn.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
And with that, I mean, there's obviously, there's a. There's a. There's a chance that you can get, like, seriously injured. Right. That's part of the risk.
Rey Mysterio
I think I've had, like, 14.
Josh Labor
That's what I was gonna ask, bro.
Sebastian
No way.
Josh Labor
You recently just had another surgery, right?
Rey Mysterio
Yes, I just. I tore my groin a day before WrestleMania.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. From my left side, which is. I would say my weakest side, because I've had probably 11 ACL tears and meniscus, and, you know, just this knee is pretty bad, bone on bone, but the weaker side, and I tore my groin one day before WrestleMania.
Josh Labor
How's recovery going?
Sebastian
Good, good. Pretty good.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, man. I started my pt, not to mention I. I had a busted eardrum as well, so I fixed that during. During my time off. Yeah. I'm on the road to recovery. I should be back hopefully by August.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Wow, bro.
Rey Mysterio
I feel like I've been blessed with. With the amount of injuries because my back really is clean. Like, no injuries on my back.
Sebastian
You would think that the first thing will go out is, like, probably your.
Rey Mysterio
Back with everything that you do, landing constantly on it. But for me, because of everything that I do, my style, my knees are the ones in jeopardy all the time.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Have most of your, like, big injuries come from, like. Like, big moves that you're doing, or is it obviously so small? I feel like that's how it is, bro. My hip.
Rey Mysterio
So. So I was explaining to someone yesterday that I told my groin. He goes, how did it happen? Was it when they pulled you? I said, no.
Josh Labor
Oh, you're doing a 619.
Rey Mysterio
I stepped in the ring. The guy that. That I was wrestling stood in front of me. He bailed out the ring underneath the bottom rope, and I went to chase him, and when I pushed off with my left leg, I just heard a, like, that's it. I told my growing like that. And, yeah, usually it happens on the. On the simplest, but with all the stuff that I do, you would always think that it's something crazy.
Josh Labor
Yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
It's always the small stuff.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Always a small stuff.
Sebastian
Let's talk about something big and which is the. Recently you just got the Legend Impact Award. Congratulations.
Rey Mysterio
Thank you.
Josh Labor
That's massive.
Sebastian
Completely amazing. How does that feel for you right now, when.
Rey Mysterio
When you want to become someone and you wanna. You have passion for whatever that is? For me, it was always wrestling to be able to. To start with what you love and continue on that path and have been doing it for 34 years. Stuff like this, like, it really, it makes an impact, you know, on me personally. And I think the main thing is to be able to connect and impact the younger generation and whatever it is that they're passionate about, that I was always passionate and still am about wrestling. I'm not only representing Lucha libre, but I'm representing all my Mexican people, Hispanos, Latinos, you know, around the world.
Sebastian
So, of course.
Rey Mysterio
That'S where it hits. It hits deep, man. The representation is, is a recognition, and that Impact Award is what it stands for.
Sebastian
Incredibly well deserved, man. Yeah. Insane. I mean, when I was, when I was a little bit younger, you know, I would watch you and I'm just like, it would make me feel so good about myself and my Mexican culture to see you up there and literally out in the sky and, and make me so proud to watch wrestling and for me to boast about it with my homies and say, yeah, but what about Rey Mysterio Dog? Like that, that, that, like, almost kind of like, that's my. That, that's like, that's my wrestler. You know what I mean?
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
Like, what you got on Ray Mysterio and like, it also didn't help them that you were like, the best too. You know, it's like undeniably, like the best. So I can't imagine how other people felt as well, you know, representing us and making us feel good on a sport where it's also very American dominant as well. So for you to come in there and, you know, represent us was like something incredibly special, not only to myself, but everybody who's just like me.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Yeah, that's something like when, when you, when you do what you love and you're, you're just continuing on that path, you really have. No, especially when you're young, you have really no understanding that you're not just doing what you love, but you're, you're representing culture, you represent a sport. You're representing something that has been in Mexico since the 1930s, and you're, you're transcending to another level and because of, of how immature and, and so focused on the path that you're on. You don't realize these things until something like the Impact Award that was presented to me. Like, wow. Okay, this. This is. This is deep, man. Like. Like, I'm not just doing what I love, but I'm also putting Lucha Libre on the map, representing my people. Like, there comes a lot of things on your back that weight on what you're doing. And. And to me, it's. It's been really cool, especially now that at my age and after doing it for 34 years, it's like, this really means a lot to me.
Sebastian
I can't even imagine after receiving that award, the next day, you wake up, you look in the mirror. What's the first thing that you say?
Rey Mysterio
Let's go. Let's go after another one.
Sebastian
Which one?
Rey Mysterio
Which one is next? Yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
Honestly, what. Incredible. Congratulations.
Josh Labor
Yeah. That's amazing. Yeah. Super incredible.
Sebastian
I just want to say that before we get into our quick little break, but. Jesus, you know, like, incredible, man.
Josh Labor
That's amazing. You have, like, a trophy room, bro.
Rey Mysterio
Yes, I do.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I actually turned my office into. I have, like, all my plaques and stuff that I've been getting over the years. To me, as of right now, the biggest one.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Hall of Fame.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
That's like, that. I don't think there's hall of Fame. Yeah. There's. I don't think there's a wrestler right now present that is still active and has been inducted into the hall of Fame. I might be the first one. Am I mistaken or. Yeah. I don't know.
Josh Labor
But.
Rey Mysterio
But the fact that I was inducted into hall of Fame before I even tapped out.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I was like, I don't want to be. I'm not ready to retire. Like, no, no, no. This is. We're presenting this to you, so I'm truly honored. Wow. To have been considered, you know, one of the hall of Famers, I think that's badass.
Josh Labor
They wanted to honor you in, like, your peak while you're still at it.
Rey Mysterio
That's crazy.
Josh Labor
Yeah, man.
Rey Mysterio
It's insane. You get that when. When you retire. Hang up the mask. Yeah.
Josh Labor
I was kind of confused whenever that was. Like, wow, he's already getting.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
That's crazy.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
And it's not even, like, when you retire. It's like when you retire and then, like, 10 years later.
Rey Mysterio
Later, right? Yeah. So I'm truly blessed to. To be part of that.
Sebastian
The fact that they couldn't wait to give it to you. Like, what a flex is that? Let's go oh, my God.
Josh Labor
Have you. Have you. What are your thoughts on retirement? I know that probably, like, creeps in, right?
Rey Mysterio
Like. Oh, it's definitely really close. It's really close. But at the same time, please don't. I'm so numb.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You know what a lot of people ask me? What. What keeps you going?
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I think that once my son started wrestling, that kind of pushed me to continue because I was. I was really getting very close to calling it quits, but that just kind of. It gave me that second win.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Sebastian
Spark.
Rey Mysterio
Yes. And. And it pushed me to keep going. And to be honest, I know I'm gonna still enjoy it when I retire, but I'm gonna have to tap out. I still love what I do, and I always have, so I love it. And I. And I. I love hearing stories when I connect with fans.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
How they grew up watching me or. Or I gave a mask at one point or just connected with them. I love hearing stories like that. And the connection with the fans. I think that that also drives you.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Keeps me on the road. Wow.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
We have so much more personal questions to ask you. Yeah. I'm still. So you're one of those guests where it's like, sometimes we have guests and, like, I'm. We have the questions lined up and stuff, but for me, these organic questions are just coming in my head because I want to ask you. Let's go on a short break real quick maybe, and then we'll be right back. Ladies and gentlemen, in the studio.
Josh Labor
Let's go. Yo, real talk. Making money moves shouldn't feel like filing your taxes, pz.
Sebastian
Or trying to split a bill or try to split a dinner bill with that one friend who forgot their wallet Again. Yeah, well, yeah.
Josh Labor
No, again, for real. That's why we are all about cash app. It's fast, safe, and honestly, kind of the MVP of money apps.
Sebastian
It's like the cool cousin of banking.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
Shows up late, but get stuff done.
Josh Labor
No jumping through hoops, no calling your bank and pressing 712 times. Just open the app and boom, send, receive, invest, whatever.
Sebastian
I hate when you have to press seven seven times. You know what I mean? I don't like that. And they got your back, too. If you're about to send money to someone sketchy like this definitely feels like a crypto scam run out of a garage. Sketchy cash app will step in and be like, hey, you sure about that, buddy?
Josh Labor
You fucking sure about that?
Sebastian
You really want to send that right now? You sure about that?
Josh Labor
You sure about that, dude? Bro, it's basically a digital bouncer for your wallet.
Sebastian
Sorry, I was still in that bouncer mood. Sure about that? And you can make your payments fabulous with custom tech stamps and backgrounds. Why send boring money when you can send brunch money with a flare?

Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
Are we back?
Sebastian
I think we're back.
Josh Labor
Rey Mysterio.
Sebastian
Yes, sir.
Josh Labor
In the building.
Sebastian
In the building.
Josh Labor
What's cracking?
Sebastian
I seriously can't believe it. I can't believe it. When we have, like, spectacular guests like this, I'm like, I can't believe pendejos have somebody like you. You know what I mean?
Rey Mysterio
You know where I up. I should have brought two more masks. So you.
Josh Labor
Oh, my God, bro. I would have.
Rey Mysterio
We're going to have to do this all over again. We'll do. We're running second invite.
Josh Labor
We'll do a part two.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, There we go.
Sebastian
You have no idea how cool that would be. I. So one thing about me and Josh can confirm and confirm. I have this room, right? And I call it the. The beautiful. My beautiful messy room. It's like. Like a man cave. I. I play MLB the show in there. I edit in there. It's like.
Josh Labor
It's.
Sebastian
It's like, I don't edit no more. It's like one of those places where, like, my wife has the whole house. Spectacular.
Rey Mysterio
Right.
Sebastian
But right here, space. This is. It's messy. Don't touch anything, you know? But I collect so much things throughout my life.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
I think are cool or valuable to me or mean something.
Rey Mysterio
Right.
Sebastian
And if you would have gave me a mask, I would have had the perfect spot right there.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, now we're doing it.
Josh Labor
Making him feel bad.
Rey Mysterio
No, no, no, no, no.
Sebastian
So blessed to have you here. Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
It'd be my pleasure. Yeah.
Sebastian
Was there ever a time where you actually had to decide, am I gonna be a mask wrestler or do I not want to be a mass wrestler?
Rey Mysterio
Never.
Josh Labor
Never.
Sebastian
You always knew.
Rey Mysterio
Yes. So I. I do recall as a kid growing up with my uncle, my parents sometimes would take off on their honeymoons, you know, their trips. Just them, too. And I would always want to stay with my uncle and my aunt at the time.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
So as a kid, I grew up around my uncle 24 7, going with him to. To train Lucha. Watching him go wrestle on Fridays. Go back after the match, and I would open up his bag and take out his boots and, like, his. His outfit and his mask and air it. And still to this day, I do that. But I recall as a kid like, that I would be mesmerized just by looking at his wrestling gear and his mask. So his mask is. That's. That's why I wanted to become a wrestler, because I wanted to continue the legacy that my uncle.
Josh Labor
Bro, I feel like they need to write a movie about you. It's already written. Like, I could just see you as a little kid pulling out the mask, like, one day. Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. That's exactly how I felt. And then obviously. So you can only imagine how I felt when he said, no more Ray Mysterio Jr. Like, damn. So it was very special. And. And from day one, I wrestled with the mask, even though I was the Green Lizard. But I worked my way up to become Ray Mysterio Jr. And never would I have thought that I would take this name and the mask and something that my uncle designed.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
To a completely different level. Yeah.
Sebastian
I can, you know, rest in peace. Your. Your uncle recently. I can't imagine Su Alegria for all those years seeing you.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
Did he ever, like, kind of like, hey, good thing I called you the Green Lizard.
Rey Mysterio
No.
Sebastian
Did he ever say anything like that?
Rey Mysterio
Like, so I remember at one point we were wrestling together. Like, the day that I tagged with my uncle was so cool. But Then anything that. That. That hits, that is so good, that makes the people feel good.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Eventually is gonna make the people hate someone. And, yes, my uncle turned to be the bad guy at one point, and he kicked my. Yeah, like, you have no idea. Moment of test for me.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
That brought me back to when I started training, when I would train. I thought because my uncle was Ray Mysterio, being the youngest kid in the class, that I would. That he would take it easy on me. No, he made an example out of me every single time. I remember, we. We'd have the class and we'd go in the ring and we'd tumble. Tumble. We'd all be in line, maybe eight, ten of us. And anytime I would do something wrong, he. He would make it. Do it over and over and over. And then eventually he would make an example out of me. And I would leave the ring crying. Is 12, 13 years old crying. And I'm like, I'm done, man. I don't. I don't want this anymore. And I'd go to a corner where the gym was at, and my uncle would continue with the class, and I would look over, like, is he going to come over here and start talking to me? And I would see that he would not pay attention to me, like. And I'd slowly make my way back into line and continue with the class. So all these little moments were, like, very key moments. Yeah.
Josh Labor
Wow, bro.
Sebastian
Wow. How did your pops feel about your uncle? Or was it your dad's brother or my mom.
Rey Mysterio
My mom's younger brother, yes.
Sebastian
Did your. Did your mom ever kind of like, hey, take it easy on my son, or did your mom always know, too, like, keep doing what you're doing?
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Before I became a wrestler, before, we were all big fans of my uncle, we would go watch him wrestle in Tijuana. So my mom was a big fan. My grandmother was a big fan. My dad was a fan. But then when I started training to become a wrestler, they kind of drifted away. Everyone had their own things to do.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
But there came a point where my mom. Well, before I even became a professional wrestler, you have to go through a boxing and wrestling commission. I think the one cool thing that my parents had to do was my dad had to sign a waiver, the Wrestling Boxing Commission of Tijuana, because I was underage to get a wrestling license. So without that license, I couldn't get work or get booked by other promoters. So that was. That was a. A moment in time where my parents were really very supportive. But, yeah, I don't think until I became Rey Mysterio and I took off the Mexico and I came back. That's when my parents were, like, more focused into Lucha libre and watching their kid grow.
Josh Labor
Wow. Was there a moment in the WWF that like, really just took you to another level as a superstar?
Rey Mysterio
For. For me personally?
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. I think when I became World Champion.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
At the time. Yes. And I really, to this day think that if. If Eddie Guerrero left us in 2005 and right after he passed is they. That's when I was given the opportunity to wrestle at the Royal Rumble, became the winner of the Royal Rumble and went on to. To win the world title. WrestleMania.
Josh Labor
That's crazy.
Rey Mysterio
And that was all I. I feel like a lot of that or a majority of that was because the connection that Eddie and I had.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
That the head. The. The fans would see Eddie through me in a way. Wow. So that was. That was very special for me. Yeah. So I think that took me to another level, definitely.
Josh Labor
Is that the one where you came out, you came out second and then you defeated everybody else who came out? Right. There was like 27 other people who came out.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
Total.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
In the. In the Rumble, but obviously coming out second, that's. That's the least opportunities you have to become the real Rumble winner.
Josh Labor
Defeated everybody.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Yeah. Get dumped over the top rope. Yeah. Crazy.
Sebastian
Oh, my God.
Rey Mysterio
And I remember that the following year, actually, though, that year when I went out to. To compete at WrestleMania, it was against Kurt Angle and Randy Orton for the world titles, bro.
Josh Labor
My gosh.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Insane. Insane.
Rey Mysterio
Crazy.
Sebastian
I mean, how does that night of celebrations look like for Rey Mysterio? What did you do after, like. I mean, you're pretty beat up, right? I don't know. But you're also probably, like, amped up.
Rey Mysterio
It's. It's kind of. It's. It's very difficult to come down from that high.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, I bet. But I had my wife there with me that day. I had my kids, Dom and Aaliyah. So it was definitely like a feel good moment having the people that have supported you from day one around you. So I think until you go to bed, you have a good time, you have a couple drinks, and then when it's time to unwind, it's very hard to unwind, I bet, bro. And to just get the thoughts out of your head to try to put your feet back on earth. I'm still here.
Sebastian
When you're on top of the world like that, like literally on top of.
Rey Mysterio
The world.
Sebastian
How do you control everything that you see on TV yourself, the media? Did that ever give you some sort of anxiety? How did you deal with, like, all this, like, publicity, whether it be positive, negative, you know, especially nowadays, like, even with the world of social media, it's so much, so much, so much things. Do you ever kind of like, I, I don't want to be on my phone. Do you like it? Like, how does that work for you?
Josh Labor
Especially when you dated Jennifer Aniston in.
Rey Mysterio
Was my, my wife listening?
Josh Labor
Did you know that?
Rey Mysterio
Yes. Yeah, it was a big group. I remember the National Enquirer.
Josh Labor
Right. I was like, what? I'm like, they just picking anybody.
Rey Mysterio
I, I try to stay away from that, especially now as I, as I'm older. But when I was younger, I think I've, I've always had my feet flat on the ground. I've always been very thankful to what I've earned, not given what I've earned over the years and the opportunities that have been given to me. So I think for me personally, the number one thing that has kept me centered and focused and on the same path is just being able to, to appreciate everything that I've, that I've won, that I've earned and stay true and humble with, with my people. You know, it's hard for me to, to push any fan away. I love connecting with people.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
When I have the mask on, when I don't have the mask on, it's very hard. Like, I, I like to be very private. Like, I like to have my time for myself or for, for my family or just me and my wife. But I think the number one thing has definitely been like, stay flat footed and not, not. Don't let none of this get to your head.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Because I love that.
Sebastian
But that's also very hard to do. Right. For certain people as well. So the fact that you got that down. Wow. A lot of people should, should take that from you.
Rey Mysterio
Ah, thank you, bro.
Josh Labor
Something I really.
Sebastian
Something to learn about.
Josh Labor
Yeah. Something I really like, truly admired and appreciate seeing. Like, when I was doing my deep dive on you, I was watching a bunch of interviews and podcasts and stuff and obviously, like, your name Ray, meaning King Mysterio, being like the mystery of it all.
Rey Mysterio
Yep.
Josh Labor
You are so, like, open with your life and you're so, like, passionate about, like, your. Everything that you have going on and you talk about, like, your struggles and things that you've overcome. And I just think it's such a beautiful thing how like, you genuinely wear your heart on your Sleeve. And even though you are, you. You have this character, you're, like, so open, and you just give so much to the world of who you are. I think it's such a beautiful thing, man.
Rey Mysterio
I think it's hard, man. Once you're in the. In the eye of the public, it's like, it's really hard to hide, especially when you transition over to wwe. WWE is really what opened up the doors to let the world know who my wife is, who my kids were, you know, so that. That kind of. Just once I accepted that, it was like, okay, damn, did I do the right thing? But apparently it helped out, and it just motivated all of us because the fans know who the Mysterio family is. They know my son, they know my daughter. They know my wife. My wife is a big part of my journey. Without her, I don't think I would be sitting right here and have the success that I've had. And I spoke about this in the hall of Fame speech. You know, when I first took off to Mexico at 17, I saved up my money. I went over there thinking that Triple A was going to be this promotion that was going to give me the opportunity, and they were having legal issues to get the company up and running. And in the meantime, I ran out of money. We weren't staying at a hotel anymore. We had to go live at a gym. And I was desperate. 17 years old and. And not having money to eat, and, you know, talking to my wife, girlfriend at the time, telling her, man, I want to go the back home, because I'm not doing nothing out here. I'm not wrestling, I'm not making money. This company is getting. It's. Is being delayed. You know, I don't know what's going on. At the time, I didn't understand what papers or legal issues were. Were to get a company up and running. Yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
So. And she was like, just chill. Hang on. Yeah. She was going to med school. She said, I'll put my. My career on the side right now. I'll go get a job, make some money, and I'll. I'll send you money. And she did exactly that. And, you know, because of that, I stuck with it, and I became who I am now. So whatever. If. If I would have just said it, I'm going back home. Yeah, I probably wouldn't even be here right now. Yeah. So. So big, big supporter. But because of all of that, you know, that opened up the doors to who, again, who the Mysterio family is and what we do and who what position each of us have.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
Yeah. You were talking about how, like, your. Your family's, like, involved the wwe. Right. And they got exposed to. To that lifestyle. You obviously are, you know, with having your mask, and a lot of people just know you for that. Might not know what you look like without it. Are you getting, like, are they recognizing your family and then just putting the pieces together?
Rey Mysterio
Like, that has to be so throughout my career, I lost my mask in 1999. I believe I could be wrong, against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. It was Conan and myself, and my mask was on the line. And then I wrestled without the mask for maybe about two and a half, three years.
Josh Labor
Crazy.
Rey Mysterio
And that's what really got the fans to know who I was behind the mask. But if I wouldn't have lost a mask, I would be very protective of my face underneath. That kind of just opened up the doors and I kind of, in a way, I believe, started a trend, because in Mexico, when you lose a mask, it's gone.
Josh Labor
It's gone.
Rey Mysterio
You can't remasc herself under the same name.
Josh Labor
You gotta do a different.
Rey Mysterio
Different identity. Another character. Yes.
Sebastian
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
And I think I was probably the first guy to get unmasked and then get signed by WWE and the company saying, no, Ray, we want you back with the mask on. Because at the time, WCW never promoted the mask, never sold the mask, never made profit, and WWE knew how to do that. So, yeah, came back, wrestled with it, and a lot of people knew who I was without it.
Josh Labor
Right.
Rey Mysterio
And with it. So it just kind of started this new.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Lucha libre trend and that. That opened up the eyes to the fans and that's why they know who we all are. Yeah.
Josh Labor
So you only wrestle without your mask in the wcw? It wasn't with the wwf?
Rey Mysterio
No, never.
Josh Labor
So they got it. They understood the assignment.
Rey Mysterio
Yes, exactly. They knew who I was. And that kind of gave me the liberty to. To take pictures with fans without the mask.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I was doing that during that time, and still to this day. Yeah. But every now and then, when they don't recognize me and they see Angie, my wife.
Josh Labor
Yeah. They're like, that has to be him.
Rey Mysterio
That's got to be Ray.
Sebastian
Yeah, yeah. Speaking about your mask, literally just you talking right now, I. Your mask is mesmerizing. I look at your mask and it's beautiful. It's perfectly curated. Can you speak on, like, what the process of, like, for example, like, you wake up one day, like, how did you pick that mask today? Right. Who makes the mask? What's like, the process of elimination of, like, when they actually make these masks. The designs of the mass. I know they're similar, but they're different. The colors, the inspiration from them, like. Like, where do you get this, like, vision from?
Rey Mysterio
Let me. Let me take you back to what the design means. My uncle, Rey Mysterio. The name meaning king Mystery. He would always change his designs, but he would always keep two logos that represented the name. He always had a crown, and he always had a question mark. Mystery. And. But he would have. This was just one of the designs that he used out of many. And when I started wrestling, I wanted to keep one design and just use that one for the rest of my career. And this was designed. This was a design that most stood out to me. The falcons, I think, represented my style of wrestling. Ariel.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And then, of course, I. I changed the crown to a cross. My beliefs, my faith. And then in the back, I wear an Aztec calendar. So this is the one I stuck with.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And I rode with. Now the. The masks, them, the selves. Hayashi, who is my costume designer from Osaka, Japan. Wow. He's the guy that's been making my mask for no freaking way since 1995. Yeah. And there's a crazy story. When I met him, we met in Japan on my first tour going to Japan. He. He was very mesmerized by my size and my style. He said that in Japan at the time, there was no one with my built that apparently was a wrestler. So he's actually my size.
Josh Labor
No way.
Rey Mysterio
He has almost very similar height, not the same build, but. But I don't know. Maybe it was a size that identified him. Me with him connected and connected. Yes. And the second time I came back, he had an outfit made without taking measurements. Nothing. Like, he said.
Sebastian
He figured it out.
Rey Mysterio
I have an outfit made for you. Like, I don't think that's gonna fit, man. He said, please try on. He said, I made this for you. Keep it. I made two masks. The one that you wrestle with, I would love to keep for myself. And I made an extra one for you. I was like, all right, I'll try to put it on, but I don't think it's gonna fit. And sure enough, I put it on. It fit to a tee like a glove. I gave him the mask that I wrestled with that night. I kept the rest of the outfit, and he's been doing my outfits ever since.
Sebastian
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Crazy.
Josh Labor
So your mask fit, like, perfectly.
Rey Mysterio
It's a. It's a perfect fit. It's crazy.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
It's crazy. Yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah. So, like, typically, like, they would have to, like, measure. How does that work? Like, the measurements.
Rey Mysterio
They do a. Measurements. Circumference around the neck.
Josh Labor
Okay.
Rey Mysterio
To get this on point around the top of the head and sometimes even from like, where your hairline starts all the way to the back.
Josh Labor
It's beautiful.
Rey Mysterio
It's crazy. Yes.
Josh Labor
And you have different masks that you do, like, Like, I guess like more like media stuff with. Right. And then ones that you wrestle with.
Rey Mysterio
This is one of them.
Josh Labor
Yes.
Rey Mysterio
So this one because of the material.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
It would be very hard for me to wrestle in this, of course. Just because it's. It's kind of pointy from the inside. Yeah, it's itchy.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
So I would not be able to wrestle with this one, but I use these for TV purposes. And just the bling and the shiny.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
It makes it stand out.
Sebastian
So freaking cool, man.
Rey Mysterio
I lost count. I was just asked that question maybe two days ago. Yeah. Oh, by Sarah, actually. Sarah asked me. She goes, she's part of Lucha Lucha Libre Espanol, right? Yeah. So she. She goes, ray, how many masks do you have? I said, I. I've lost count. She goes, you think a thousand? I said, I think at one point I had a thousand, but I've given so many away when I shouldn't have. I just. I would just. Hey, Ray, can I get one of me? Yeah, yeah. I was just too. Too friendly.
Josh Labor
Your official mask, you'll just give those away?
Rey Mysterio
Yes. A lot. A lot of. A lot of the ones that I wrestled with during WCW times that you just never think about it. At the time, I should have been more passionate and care. Took care of my. My stuff. But anyways, there's love to the fans.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
But I actually gave a lot to other wrestlers that would ask me for. Yes.
Sebastian
It's almost like when you play soccer and you trade jerseys.
Rey Mysterio
Exactly. Same thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I probably have a little bit over 500.
Josh Labor
Jesus.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
It's so freaking cool how you have to, like, wake up, get dressed, you look fly.
Rey Mysterio
Thank you.
Sebastian
But you also have to, like, pick a mask. To me, that's so sick. I want to wake up and pick a mask because.
Rey Mysterio
Let me get your man.
Sebastian
I. With that. Like, that's so cool. Cool. I feel like one of my favorite movies is, like, Tron. You know what I mean?
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
And, like, they all put, like, the helmets on. And like, I just. I. I wish we lived in a world like that where we would actually wear masks.
Rey Mysterio
Not too far away.
Sebastian
Yeah, hopefully not.
Josh Labor
I know. Really are, but.
Sebastian
And hopefully I can, like, live as long as I can. I can see that. You know what I mean? But I think it's so cool.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, man. To me, it's. It's. It's honor, man, to be able to carry this mask, take it to different heights and. And just to be a representative of something that is part of our culture, you know, been around since. Since early night, mid-1930s. And it's crazy to even think. We were just talking about this the other day. The first Mass wrestler in Mexico in the mid or early 1930s was an American. Like, what?
Josh Labor
Wait, what?
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Sebastian
I did not know that.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, it was an American.
Josh Labor
What was his name?
Rey Mysterio
I can't recall right now at the top of my head, but I know that that's the history behind it. Then, of course, as. As the years moved on, a lot of the masks were incorporated and designed by what the Aztecs and the Mayans used to use, you know, but. Yeah, the first. The first Mass wrestler was. It was an American in Mexico. Yeah.
Josh Labor
That is so crazy.
Rey Mysterio
Crazy. Think about, like, that's part of our culture, but somebody else brought it.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
But we stuck with it. Yeah. So.
Josh Labor
Wow, bro.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Speaking of culture, Mr. Mysterio, do you mind if I try something with you?
Rey Mysterio
No.
Josh Labor
Okay, brother. So I. I own a wellness brand called Salud, which I. I've heard around the streets that you've actually tried. Sampled.
Rey Mysterio
Incredible.
Josh Labor
Thank you.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, I love it.
Josh Labor
Yeah. So my. My whole goal was to create a product that really represented where I'm from, you know, being Mexican and something that it's like a part of our culture is Agua Frescas and also a brand called Haritos. Right. And we've been so fortunate and blessed that we actually have a collaboration with Jaritos, which is kind of crazy to even say out loud because, I mean, I grew up drinking Jaritos, has been around for 75 years. They're such an iconic staple in the world in our culture. So to be able to have this, like, privilege to. To work with them is, like, truly an honor.
Rey Mysterio
And.
Josh Labor
And we are actually coming out with this product on Friday. It's going to drop Friday. We got four flavors. Nobody in this world has sampled them.
Sebastian
Not even me. Not even me.
Josh Labor
Yes. Yes.
Sebastian
Supposedly, I'm his best friend.
Josh Labor
Well, supposedly.
Sebastian
Supposedly.
Josh Labor
And I couldn't think of a better person to sample them for the first time than you, bro. I would love for you to sample them. The ones that we have out here. That were put together by our incredible producer, Jess are our hydration. So we have four flavors that we're dropping. We have the Mandarin in hydration, and then we have the guava in hydration. And they're laid out for you perfectly. And, Seba, since you haven't tried it and you're supposed to be my best friend, I also got you a cup as well. Wow, thank you.
Sebastian
I appreciate that.
Josh Labor
Best friend, dude, I think mine have tequila.
Rey Mysterio
We can make that happen.
Josh Labor
We can make that happen. All right, so I think we should start off with. With the Mandarin. Yes. Oh, you know what? Yeah, let's do Mandarin.
Rey Mysterio
This one.
Josh Labor
Yes. Yes. Here you go.
Sebastian
Thank you. Can I just say something real quick, too?
Rey Mysterio
Better.
Sebastian
You better. So, obviously, this is La Platica. We've actually collabed on a flavor as well. Sandia. When it went to the packaging of. Of. Of. Of. Of design. Of that design, we put Lucha Libre masks on it. And I think if we have the bag, we. We can. We can show Ray Mysterio. Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, wow.
Sebastian
Yeah. I don't know if you can see the. The Lucha door mask. I'll show you right now in a little bit more detail.
Rey Mysterio
Okay.
Sebastian
But it's. It's such a. It's almost kind of like a full circle moment.
Josh Labor
The universe, baby.
Sebastian
Obviously, that is part of our culture, but it's kind of thanks to you that you have made it even so much cooler. And that's why we did that, because of you.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Like, that's crazy. I just realized that, like. Yeah, like, when he said, yeah, we should put, like, Lucha. Lucha libre mask on and stuff, like that luchador mask. And I was like, yeah. Whether we say it or not, but that's because of Rey Mysterio.
Josh Labor
Right? Like, I don't.
Sebastian
What a cool circle moment. And that's the reason. Do we have a La Platica bag anywhere? We can get that right now? In a bit. So we can.
Josh Labor
If we don't, we'll send it.
Sebastian
Yeah, yeah. But, yeah, it's cool.
Josh Labor
Yeah. All right, so here's the official salud times Haritos, Mandarin flavor, first time being tried. Salud. How about that, bro?
Sebastian
That's money. That's money, dude.
Rey Mysterio
Man, I couldn't stop drinking all the way. It's delicious.
Sebastian
This is really good, bro.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Like, at the end, like, you got that.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Kick right there.
Sebastian
That kid.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
I wanted to. Like, when people sample it, it just takes you back, you know what I mean? Like, how you drink your Harritos. Like, first time you drank It. That's delicious. Thank you, brother. I appreciate it. Good. All right, next one we have here.
Sebastian
It's so crazy how, like, you guys can put that in a package and then, like, really replicate the harito flavor.
Rey Mysterio
Same, right?
Sebastian
But also having that salute. Taste.
Josh Labor
Taste. Yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
And it's healthy.
Josh Labor
You want to work for. Salud, bro. You're in.
Sebastian
Yeah, sure, sure.
Josh Labor
Cool. So this is our. Our guayaba. And both of these are hydration, by the way, so they're gonna have the same benefits as our other products as well, which is going to be hydration and immunity. Sorry, I got you for you. Sorry about.
Sebastian
Salud.
Josh Labor
Guava. Let's give it, like, a little mix of mix. Oh, little mix. Get it all in there.
Sebastian
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Josh Labor
Damn, bro. I've been trying these flavors for the past six months, but every time I tried it, it, like, blows my mind. I'm like, man, this is good.
Rey Mysterio
It's crazy that it tastes exactly, exactly.
Sebastian
It's almost like I just bit into one.
Josh Labor
Wow. Yeah.
Sebastian
And, you know, I always say this. I'm not even a big guayaba fan. All the salu ones, I love guayaba.
Rey Mysterio
Wow.
Josh Labor
Matt, can we. Can we try the. The hydration ones? Are those laid out as well? Oh, perfect.
Rey Mysterio
My parents had trees. Wava trees in the back. They love guayabas.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And remember my mom always telling me, hey.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And I take a bite, feel like I'm biting into right here.
Sebastian
Dude, taking you back.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
That's crazy, dude.
Sebastian
Having guayaba trees in your backyard. That smells.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Will take you back to being a child.
Josh Labor
It's crazy.
Sebastian
That's incredible.
Josh Labor
So those were the hydration ones that we have. Right. These are going to be our energy flavor. And this is going to be lime and fruit punch, which are incredible. 200 milligrams of caffeine. L. Theanine to help with, like, the jitters and the focus.
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Josh Labor
Let's start.
Sebastian
We're really trying Salute with Raven cereal right now.
Rey Mysterio
Crazy, too.
Josh Labor
Thank you, boss.
Sebastian
And these are super healthy, bro.
Rey Mysterio
I love it.
Josh Labor
All right, cool. So this is a lime. This is. Never mind. I'm. I'm going to hold my thoughts. So.
Rey Mysterio
This looks delicious just looking at it.
Josh Labor
Salute.
Sebastian
Salute.
Josh Labor
How about that?
Sebastian
This is my.
Josh Labor
This one's fire.
Sebastian
This is my. This is my. I just want tacos now.
Josh Labor
Right?
Sebastian
Yeah. Like, this goes hand in hand with Nunos. That goes up.
Rey Mysterio
Pastor, how hard is it to come down with the. With, like, the right taste? Do you go through that process?
Josh Labor
We do. We absolutely do we have an incredible, like. No, no, no. I'm not in the lab. That's, like, way above my pay grade. But we have an incredible team, bro, that just gets in the lab. And really. And for this one specifically, they were sampling it next to Jaritos. The whole goal with it, it was for it to taste identical to a Harito's bottle, you know, without. I mean, with all due respect, like, Jaritos has, like. They're more sugar. It's a soda.
Rey Mysterio
Right. Of course.
Josh Labor
So you're gonna have like 20 plus grams of sugar. This only has one gram of sugar, so that makes it more challenging. But we have the best team in the world that were able to get.
Rey Mysterio
It there and get the same taste.
Josh Labor
Yes.
Rey Mysterio
And it's healthy.
Josh Labor
Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. So when we. When we did it, our team was, like, going in the lab, making sure that they felt good about it. And then Tyler and I, my business partner, we went in to, like, sample it, and, you know, we gave a couple revisions, but by the time we sampled it, it was already there. And then it was time to send it to Jaritos because they're like, the final. The final boss. Right. To make sure that it lives up to par to the name the Legacy. And we were so nervous. I remember when we sent it, it was like, you know, a couple days that we had to, like, wait to hear back. And then we got the email saying that the flavors were approved from the get go. They just knew that it was a, you know, spot on to them, that it lived up.
Sebastian
And not only that.
Josh Labor
Come on, baby.
Sebastian
Yeah, that's kind of wild.
Josh Labor
It's crazy. We don't use any artificial dyes, so this is.
Sebastian
I mean, damn, talk about cream of the crop is what you're saying.
Josh Labor
Yeah, I didn't say it, though.
Rey Mysterio
Did you. Did you have a couple samples until you hit the right one or. Yeah, very few.
Josh Labor
Very few. Like I said, like, our team was in there. Yeah. And they were. They did a ton of revisions to get it to a point. And I think when we went in there, we had a few notes that we gave, and then we just felt good about it. But you feel good about it only to a certain degree. Right. Because then you got to send to the Metal Medal and then they got to decide, like, okay, this is it. So we, you know, and then we got it there, bro. We got. This is. And now this is the final product with everything. And it's gonna be. It's gonna be dropping this Friday, by the way, which I'M super excited about. And then we have, like, a cool, like, live event that we're doing on on Saturday. But so this is the last one here. This is fruit punch, which we haven't dropped the fruit punch before, so I'm excited for that because I know this is, like, a very highly demanded flavor. Senor, by the way, I just want to say thank you, man. I'm really, like, this is crazy that I get to experience this with Rey.
Sebastian
Mysterio saying my first taste test with Ray Mysterio.
Josh Labor
The biggest collaboration we had as a company with Ray Mysterio. I mean, it doesn't get any better than this. Hello, camera.
Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
Salud, guys.
Rey Mysterio
Salute. Damn.
Sebastian
Yep. I mean, I don't want to say, like, oh, yeah, this is it again, because then people are back at home, think I'm just glazing you, right? No, because they're always good. They're all positive. But it's like, money.
Josh Labor
It's money, bro.
Sebastian
Money in the bank.
Josh Labor
Okay. If you had a rank them and flavor.
Sebastian
Lime, lime.
Josh Labor
Number one.
Sebastian
Number one.
Josh Labor
Okay.
Sebastian
For me, right, Mr. Ray.
Rey Mysterio
Man, I have to go with lime, too, because I'm a big lime guy.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Yeah, me too.
Josh Labor
That was spot on.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, spot on.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Guava was good.
Josh Labor
Guava is good.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. That would probably be number two.
Josh Labor
Okay. Yeah, I have the same. That's my same list.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
My second is Mandarin.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
And then guava and then fruit punch. But that doesn't mean fruit punch is right. Ranked 4. That's weird, right?
Josh Labor
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. This.
Sebastian
This incredible.
Josh Labor
Thank you, bro. I appreciate it. We're super honored. We're super excited, man. This is a. This is a huge deal, man. And like I said, it's two hydrations that we're dropping and two energies that we dropping. We've never dropped four flavors at the same time, so this is, like, monumental in many ways. So it's exciting. So thank you. I appreciate it. I'm excited.
Rey Mysterio
Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah. This is crazy dope. You guys can get it this Friday. Use the code la platica. 10 for 10 off.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, bro, I'm getting it before we.
Josh Labor
Got a whole bag, man. You got to be Ray Mysterio to get a whole goodie bag.
Sebastian
Congrats to you guys, man.
Josh Labor
Appreciate it.
Sebastian
That's amazing.
Josh Labor
Thank you.
Sebastian
Imagine, Ray was like, it wasn't there. Yeah. Oh, my God.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
So talking about, what are some things that, like. What are some, like, dishes that you don't just don't with?
Josh Labor
Are you a picky Eater.
Sebastian
Are you a picky eater? No.
Josh Labor
You don't come across like a picky person.
Rey Mysterio
Like, I'm good with greens. Anything you put on.
Sebastian
Favorite cerveza?
Rey Mysterio
Favorite cerveza. I. I started off with Corona.
Sebastian
Okay.
Rey Mysterio
And I just recently had a Corona, and it was long time since I've had one, and it caught me. It just brought me back to that taste. Like, damn, that was good. Corona's good.
Sebastian
And, you know, they always, they always, like, do commercials for, like, their limes.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
But it's just such a good, like, you know, it compliments really.
Josh Labor
Well, you know, I have the same experience with Corona. I don't drink it all the time, but when I drink, I'm like, damn, Corona is good.
Rey Mysterio
Yes, yes. That's why, right?
Josh Labor
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You don't have it every day, but yeah, you have it. It tastes good.
Sebastian
Favorite Mexican dish, Man, I'm.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, I'm a tacos guy.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Okay, so this is, this is a really hard question, though, because I know you spent a lot of time and you also spent a lot of time in Tijuana, right? What style taco are you choosing?
Rey Mysterio
Without a doubt, for me. For you, Mexican Tijuana.
Sebastian
Yeah, same.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, I think, like, I love tacos in, in Mexico, sure. But I just, I grew up eating them in Tijuana, and I grew up in the era where you'd go up to the taco stand, you'd stand there and you ask, yeah, guacamole finish, pain like 10. Yes. Those all ass. Yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
It's almost like they're, they're, they're sloppy in the most beautiful way.
Josh Labor
It's an art, bro.
Sebastian
Yeah, yeah.
Josh Labor
That's my favorite. Yeah. Yeah.
Sebastian
And they always catch them, bro.
Josh Labor
They're in the middle of a conversation, bro.
Sebastian
I've never seen a. Never catch the pen.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Time to see a go cry.
Josh Labor
Yeah, you do, bro.
Sebastian
I think that's where you got your inspiration, huh?
Rey Mysterio
Hell, yeah.
Sebastian
From the picture.
Rey Mysterio
Tijuana tacos are. Are the best.
Sebastian
Top tier.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
I personally think Tijuana is top tier.
Rey Mysterio
And someone can argue otherwise, but until they prove it.
Josh Labor
Right.
Rey Mysterio
All right.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Favorite tequila.
Rey Mysterio
Favorite tequila. I had a 1800 Qubo.
Josh Labor
Oh, okay.
Rey Mysterio
Not too long ago, actually, this past Christmas, and I'm still trying to find that. That bottle. We finished it.
Josh Labor
It's not Reservoir de la Familia, Right. Is it in a. In a wooden box?
Rey Mysterio
So, funny thing, my parents had it in their. In their kitchen. Like, what is this? I don't know, because we ran Out.
Josh Labor
Yeah, yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And we popped it open and when I tasted it, I was like, whoa, what is this? It was sweet and delicious, like perfect.
Josh Labor
So it was like an anejo, potentially familia. Can you look that up, Jess?
Rey Mysterio
The color, the color was like, like a brown, like, like a, almost like a yellowish. It looks very similar.
Josh Labor
Interesting.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, but that, I think so that was between that and, and classes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like.
Sebastian
Yeah. Something about ringing that campanita, huh?
Josh Labor
Yeah, bro. It gets so much hate. But it's a vibe. The bottle's beautiful.
Sebastian
Did you know that Class A, the one thing where I really respect them is because where they make the bottle Mexico. And that pueblo is, is employed by class A. So it helps that that pueblo out financially because it gives them so much work.
Rey Mysterio
Is that in Mexico? Mexico or Jalisco.
Josh Labor
So they're hand painting the bottles and everything.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
That's beautiful.
Sebastian
Beautiful. Have you ever been to Tequila?
Rey Mysterio
The I, I have a long time ago, but I need to revisit.
Sebastian
I would definitely revisit it. It's a vibe.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Right.
Sebastian
Can you imagine Rey Mysterio and Tequila going to Cantaritos El Guero? Have you seen those Tik Toks or those videos where they get that big ass cantarito like this?
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
And they put like four bottles of Tequila. I gotta show it to you after.
Josh Labor
Yeah, okay.
Sebastian
Yeah. Okay.
Josh Labor
Yeah, bro. You've traveled around the world with the WWE and everything, right?
Rey Mysterio
I'm blessed.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Have met the world.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Through wrestling.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
And that was my next question was where's your favorite place to. To visit? It doesn't have to be Mexico, man.
Rey Mysterio
No. Actually, so going to Japan, going to Japan was, was a really cool experience for me because I, I, besides the fact that I, I would watch a lot of Japanese wrestling, to go there for the first time was like a surreal experience. But overall like Europe, Istanbul was crazy.
Sebastian
Very beautiful like that. Yeah, that was very beautiful.
Rey Mysterio
At the time, this was maybe 12 to. It was 2012, 2011. To. To be there and say, bro, I can't believe I'm in Istanbul.
Sebastian
Isn't that crazy?
Rey Mysterio
Like, like wrestling, really? It comes all the way over here and the kids were just so Ray. 619. I like, like it, it's, it's really cool.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
It's impactful to, to see something like that happen. So there's been a lot of places that I've. That I've been to.
Josh Labor
India trips you out.
Rey Mysterio
That really trips me out. Like.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I had no idea.
Sebastian
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
We're the craziest fans, man.
Rey Mysterio
I want to say India is like the most exciting fans. Wow. When I went to Mumbai, I went there to do a promotional event for wwe and I wasn't even wrestling. I was in this mall and they had this stage set up with the ramp. Almost like if I was going to be in a concert and I was the one singing and it was just, I don't know, maybe 10,000 people. Wow. And they were just going crazy. And I think if I'm not mistaken, India is probably like the. One of our biggest markets. Wow.
Josh Labor
Number one market.
Rey Mysterio
Number one market. Yeah. For wwe.
Sebastian
Incredible.
Rey Mysterio
But that was like, that experience to me was crazy. I'm not even wrestling. The fans came over here just to. Just to see me shake my hand, to touch. Yeah. Like that. That is. Is pretty crazy, man. And bless. Bless as well.
Sebastian
I was going to speak about Japan. Isn't it one of those places where it's completely black and white from the United States? I mean, you land in, let's just say Tokyo. I've never seen streets so clean in my life. The culture, it's so respectful.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
I love Japanese food. So, like, to me, it's like, it's incredible, bro. You, you. You're there and it's exactly what you see, like in the movies when you're growing up. You know what I mean? You feel like they're ahead of their time.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
Everything is so, like, up to date, like, accessible. Like the way that you even order food, it's like, why don't we order food here in the United States? Like, we order food over there. It's so convenient.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. The only reason.
Sebastian
Yeah. The only reason why I don't live in Japan is because my parents live here in la.
Josh Labor
Yeah, you've said that. It's crazy.
Sebastian
Yeah. I love, I love Japan. Yeah. I think it's a. It's. It's such a. There's something. There's something spiritually in the air in Japan.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
It makes you feel relaxed. It pulls you in. It's like, wow, I'm really living on earth right now. It's weird, but it's really.
Josh Labor
I've heard that. I've heard that a lot of people that we've asked have, like, traveled the world and stuff. Everybody always reverts to Japan. I need to go. I'm going to go.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, you've never been?
Josh Labor
I've never been.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, yeah. Definitely recommend it. Yeah. You can leave your wallet or your phone at a convenience store.
Josh Labor
Nobody's going to take it.
Rey Mysterio
No, sorry. They'll come out and say, hey, yeah, it's crazy.
Josh Labor
You forgot your million dollars cash, sir.
Sebastian
Look, we actually pulled up the video of Canaritos.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, wow.
Sebastian
This isn't. I think a matitan, which is basically tequila, is right next to tequila, but look it.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Big ass.
Josh Labor
Oh, I know, bro. That's just the one.
Sebastian
All the way to the top, bro.
Josh Labor
I love the way they move, bro. There's an art to the way they move.
Sebastian
And he's like talking too, while he's making it.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, I got to go now, bro.
Josh Labor
They have this down to a science.
Sebastian
He pulled it out, dude.
Josh Labor
I'm going. I'm going.
Rey Mysterio
To.
Sebastian
Yeah, it's limon toron mixed with orange juice as well.
Josh Labor
Dude. I love when they do that. I do that every time I pour.
Rey Mysterio
Something into a cup.
Josh Labor
I always do that.
Sebastian
This the first time you've ever seen this.
Rey Mysterio
This is cool.
Sebastian
Wow.
Josh Labor
And then, bro, they're going to.
Sebastian
Look, they give you a shot so you can taste the.
Josh Labor
Bro, that's like a triple right there.
Sebastian
And mind you, when you get here, that's because you've already done all the tequila experiences. Like, you probably already went to Jose. You went to all the distilleries and stuff. So you're already kind of pedo.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Yeah.
Sebastian
Cuz they give you alcohol there, you know, and you see how tequila is made and everything. And everybody goes here to party. Ivanda, you know, so that's in Tequila, Jalisco. It's right next to it. Yeah. People consider it tequila, but it's a Matitan, I think. But it's right there.
Rey Mysterio
It's right there. Yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
Nothing's too. So my family lives like 40 minutes from here, from this pueblo. Yeah. So whenever you go, man, I can be your tour guide.
Rey Mysterio
That's my next trip.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Yes. That's gonna be my next trip.
Sebastian
It's such a good vibe, man.
Rey Mysterio
It's funny. My wife and I talking about going to. I think we might have a show pretty soon with WWE in Guadalajara or Mexico and. But I definitely want to.
Sebastian
No way. I'm gonna figure out what day and if that can make it happen. I'm definitely gonna go and get tickets. I have to.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Have you guys ever been to one of the shows? Any? I event, like, even as a kid.
Josh Labor
I went to one. Maybe. I don't remember what event it was, bro. It was. I want to say it was like eight years ago and I had a blast, bro.
Sebastian
It's electrifying.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Sebastian
Now it's an amazing show.
Rey Mysterio
Very different.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Because the. I don't know, just the, the evolution of the sport has changed, the characters have changed, but the connection that, that, that the superstars have with the fans is like on a completely different level.
Josh Labor
Do you think that's because of social media?
Rey Mysterio
I think that that's definitely an avenue that. That is connected the superstars with the fans a lot more.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
But even like the fans coming up with their own chance, for certain superstars.
Josh Labor
They'Re doing it themselves.
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Sebastian
Yeah, that's right.
Rey Mysterio
And that. That's really, really cool. Especially when we go to Europe. They started in Europe. I remember listening to it for the first time in France last year where it was like a soccer game.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You know, they have chance just in general, like, chance throughout the whole night.
Josh Labor
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rey Mysterio
They don't stop and they don't stop.
Josh Labor
Damn.
Rey Mysterio
That's crazy. Yeah.
Sebastian
Incredible.
Rey Mysterio
But most definitely next time we're. We're in LA or. Or closer to wherever you guys are at, you guys gotta come down. Would love for you guys to be.
Josh Labor
You in the ring. So I'm willing to hold that fully recovery. You're back at it, bro.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
100.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Obviously the one that would really count is the WrestleMania.
Josh Labor
WrestleMania.
Rey Mysterio
So I believe we're coming back to Vegas.
Josh Labor
Wow.
Rey Mysterio
Next year. So definitely put that on the list.
Sebastian
I'm down. I'll put on my list today.
Rey Mysterio
Let's go.
Josh Labor
That's bucket list.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Bucket listeria.
Rey Mysterio
You got to do at least one WrestleMania in your lifetime.
Josh Labor
Yeah, of course.
Sebastian
100. Like, I'm gonna be boasting about that all the time. Like, oh, who invited you? You know, Rey Mysterio.
Josh Labor
You ever heard of Red?
Sebastian
Have you ever heard of him? That's the homie. Yeah, that was my next question too, about, like, kind of social media and stuff, like the new age of wrestling. Wrestling. I mean, Logan Paul, a great wrestler as well, making his name and, and doing his damn thing right.
Rey Mysterio
Also, I don't know about great, great restaurants. He's entertaining.
Josh Labor
Yeah, you did a little much right there.
Sebastian
My bad, my bad. So, like, Bad Bunny being like a wrestler, like all these stars, like, even like Travis Scott really being into, like, the game. What. How does that make you feel about, like, them changing the game like that?
Rey Mysterio
No, I, I think it's cool to have that. That connection. It definitely brings more eyes to, to the brand. But the fact, like, like Logan Paul, coming from a different world, stepping in the ring, and I've been in the ring with him. Several times. For him to step up the way he has and put himself on the map is. Is crazy. Like, how many years it took me to learn this, you know, and not to go far. Like, even my son, to see him in four years that he's been wrestling, like, to see where he's gotten now is just insane to me. So that is crazy. I give respect to. To those that are coming from another world into the wrestling world or the entertainment world, and to do what they're doing, like you said, you know, to step in a ring and to be in on a stage, like WrestleMania, it's hard.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Did you see where he came out in Puerto Rico to Chambea, bro. That gives me chill. I watched that before I go to the gym. Just.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, it's sick. Yeah.
Sebastian
And he's a huge wrestling fan. Yeah.
Josh Labor
Yeah. You were there.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, I went to that show.
Josh Labor
This is just like election insane.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. The fans were just insane. There's every now and then you. You hit those markets where there's wrestling fans. Wrestling has been their thing.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
For the long time.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
And when you bring a show like WWE and you have one of their guys like Bad Bunny or in this case, Damen Priest, who's Puerto Rican as well, it's just crazy.
Sebastian
Yeah. When I saw that, I was like, wow. I'm like, yeah, wow. Respect to bad money for, like you said, putting himself out there. And like, this is what I'm.
Josh Labor
Yo, he commits.
Rey Mysterio
Yes, he does.
Sebastian
You think you could do it?
Josh Labor
Yeah, probably not, man.
Sebastian
I don't know. I mean, now knowing Ray Mysterio, he might show me some ropes.
Rey Mysterio
You know what I mean? Let's go.
Sebastian
Like, so.
Josh Labor
Yeah. This is sick, bro.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
This is so badass.
Sebastian
So badass, bro.
Rey Mysterio
So you can only imagine, like, we talk about, like, walking out and doing. Doing the appearance or. Or like hearing the connection that you make with the fans, but I don't. I don't know if it can compare. Like having a concert, Bad Bunny walking out.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
So used to it.
Josh Labor
It's different.
Rey Mysterio
And then stepping into a completely different world and hearing the connection now, you know, the all eyes are on you to do something that you've been training for two, three months. I don't know, whatever time.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You spent, it's not something you've been doing your whole life.
Josh Labor
Like you.
Rey Mysterio
It's. Yeah, it's crazy. Even. Even, like, for me, it's hard sometimes you get overwhelmed by the reactions.
Josh Labor
Yep.
Rey Mysterio
But when it's time to. To commit, to deliver. Go.
Josh Labor
You still get Nervous going out?
Rey Mysterio
Oh, yes. Yeah. Oh, hell, yeah.
Josh Labor
Wow, bro.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Josh Labor
But it's like a good nervousness. It's like you almost like you feed off of that.
Rey Mysterio
I. I've noticed that as I've gotten older. It's. It's those nerves that kind of every now and then, I'll doubt myself. Fuck. I don't want to fuck up. What if I. But as soon as I pass that curtain and make connection with the crowd, it kind of just goes away.
Josh Labor
Do you have a ritual before you go out that you do?
Rey Mysterio
I always pray.
Josh Labor
Oh, wow.
Rey Mysterio
I always go down on my knees, pray to God to take care of me and everyone on the show who I'm facing and to guide us in the path, to have a good show and let the fans be entertained with what we do.
Josh Labor
That's beautiful.
Sebastian
Yeah, that is beautiful. Wow. Before we end the show, the Padres are playing the Dodgers.
Josh Labor
Oh, man.
Sebastian
Who's gonna take that series?
Josh Labor
Oh, and why the Dodgers?
Rey Mysterio
Do I even have to answer that, man? I grew up a Padre fan.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I have this cool story. My. My dad, rest in peace. He used to take me to the Padres game as a kid. We used to watch Steve Garvey, Tony Gwyn, you know, so. So really, San Diegan from day one.
Josh Labor
Is that what you guys are called, San Diegan?
Rey Mysterio
Well, isn't it? Right?
Sebastian
Yes.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, from day one. So one day I was doing an appearance for the company, and I told my pops, come with me. We're going to the Padres. I was gonna watch the. The. I think they were doing practice or something before I threw out the first pitch. I'm like, I hope we get to run into Tony Gwynn before he passed, because I wanted me and my pops to take a picture, and it didn't happen. He was injured, so he was in the locker room, and they were taking care of him. Like, damn. Went through the practice. My pops and I were getting ready to walk out. We're going through this long hallway, and I hear some voices in the back. And I turn around and I see Tony walking, like, from one locker to another. But it was just the hallway. And I went, tony. And he looked. I said, can we get a picture? Yeah, come on. And my pops and I walked over.
Josh Labor
Wow, bro.
Rey Mysterio
I had that picture, man. I get to talk about it.
Josh Labor
That's crazy.
Rey Mysterio
I had that picture of my pops, Tony Gwynn, and myself.
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
You know, and in San Diego at the time.
Sebastian
Crazy.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. Really, really cool, man. But to answer your question, Padres, Okay.
Josh Labor
So I saw Beyonce and I, I both born and raised in la. We're massive Dodger fans. Last year, we were at three of the five World Series games. Like, we're all about it, bro. Flew to New York, everything. And you obviously follow you on Instagram and stuff. And I think you posted where you throw the first pitch for the Padres. And I was looking at this post, man, I was like, do I like this post? He's about to come on apart. What do I do here? You know what I mean?
Rey Mysterio
Because now take it out before it comes out.
Josh Labor
If you like the post. Right. Like your fan.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Your people who follow you can see it.
Sebastian
Yeah, yeah.
Josh Labor
So I was like, people are gonna see the, that I like the Padres. I don't know what to do. But I was like, for Ray, I'll double tap that.
Sebastian
I, I absolutely love that rivalry.
Josh Labor
Yeah, I do too.
Sebastian
I take the Padres versus the Dodgers, those games, like, it's like, it's the World Series.
Josh Labor
I do too.
Sebastian
When they were in the playoffs last year, I. I love to hate. Oh, my God. I was like this, bro. Because, you know, I'll say it as a Dodger fan, like, the Padres, they be kicking our ass sometimes, right?
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, sometimes. But I knew, Sometimes.
Sebastian
But I knew that if we can go, if we can beat the Padres in the playoffs, we're gonna win. We'll win the whole thing.
Josh Labor
The whole thing.
Rey Mysterio
Wow.
Sebastian
And that's what happened.
Josh Labor
That's what happened.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah. But especially last year, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
And I think the rivalry got even bigger from last year. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Somebody there's a mission now.
Josh Labor
Yeah. I love to hate too, is Manny Machado. Because he just leans into it, bro. And I love it. They all do it at the same time, bro.
Sebastian
But it's good for baseball.
Josh Labor
It's good for baseball. It just makes it exciting.
Rey Mysterio
And for the fans. Yeah, man.
Josh Labor
That's what it's about, bro.
Sebastian
But he definitely is a San Diegoing because isn't there area code 619?
Rey Mysterio
Yeah, yeah.
Sebastian
That's where it all came from.
Rey Mysterio
That's where. That's where the move came from. Wow.
Sebastian
It's incredible. Do people know that, that that's San Diego's area code?
Josh Labor
Because array, they know that he put.
Rey Mysterio
It on the map at, at one point. A lot of people, when I would go to other countries, what is the 619? Obviously they don't know the area codes. Like, oh, that's a representation of my city that where I grew up, you know? 619 San Diego. Oh, okay. So the Word has spread and now the majority of them know. But every now and then I'll get the. The fan that says what. What is the 6 one?
Sebastian
Yeah, of course.
Rey Mysterio
Area code for San Diego.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
I love my city.
Sebastian
Yeah.
Josh Labor
Love that, bro.
Sebastian
I love that so much. Well, Ray Mysterio.
Josh Labor
My God, man.
Sebastian
It was an absolute pleasure to have you on the show, bro.
Josh Labor
And honor.
Sebastian
Thank you very much. I hope not only to see you back on the show, but at WrestleMania.
Rey Mysterio
Yes.
Sebastian
Or any other event. Tequila, Jalisco, you let me know know. I got. I got. I got the. The number two. Two to your people.
Rey Mysterio
Yeah.
Sebastian
So we'll figure it out. We have anything else coming up, we'll definitely include you.
Rey Mysterio
I love it.
Sebastian
Thank you so much for the people back at home. I'm sure they absolutely love you. Do you know 90 of our audience is women?
Josh Labor
Yeah.
Rey Mysterio
Oh, yeah.
Josh Labor
We got a large woman. I love that, bro.
Sebastian
So I think they're absolutely gonna love and get to know who. Who? Raymond. I'm glad we had had great conversations.
Rey Mysterio
Thank you.
Sebastian
And we really appreciate it, man. And thanks for trying everything out as well.
Josh Labor
That was absolutely incredible, bro. Thank you so much. You were amazing, man, in all aspects. That's it, baby. That's it.
Sebastian
Once again, thank you. Just like that.
Josh Labor
Ray Mysterio, everybody. Let's go, baby.
Rey Mysterio
Let's go. Wow.
