Jeremy stares at the stats, hand shaking over takeout boxes. Johnny's already mapping hotels on a napkin with greasy crosses. They quit jobs. They kind of hate it. Tell their bosses, catch the show. Boss just shrugs. Hope it's funny. Johnny grins.
Jeremy Odom
You'll never know. HJo. And we are rewinding you to 2024, a fun episode where I. I was fat. Shamed, frankly. And back then, I didn't understand it. I was like, what? Who. Who's coming at the King with that? Like, I was pretty, pretty confident in where my, My weight was. There was, There was no outlying issues here, you know, other than the Crohn's disease. I mean, I eat. I eat what I eat. I had. I don't know if I still do. I know I used to have a fast metabolism. I'm sure it still runs at an okay rate even for my age. But I will say that was back in 24. It's 26 now, and I am pretty freaking close to the highest weight I've. I've ever been. I'm. I'm just mere pounds away from. From hitting that point. But I've been walking a whole lot more. I've been going out on walks maybe a couple times a day. And, you know, it's. It's a byproduct of. I think it's a byproduct of the medicine I'm on, which we'll do that. And also I, I suppose it could have something with what I'm eating. But here's the thing, and here's why I dispute any, any fat shaming here of me is I, I don't eat a lot. I just don't like. It's not like I'm sitting around eating all day, okay? I eat. I try to eat three meals a day. I definitely eat two. And I, you know, I've been trying to eat a little better. You know, I try not to overindulge too much anymore. I was for. Oh boy, there was a point. I'd come home from work and, boy, I would just eat everything in sight because I hadn't eaten all day. I burned so many calories, and then I need to load back up the more I talk this out loud. Johnny, I wonder if the fat shaming was. Was valid. Maybe I have a problem here. Oh, whatever. We'll get to the bottom of it at some point, right? Either way, I'm walking. We're gonna get, we're gonna get back to that optimal weight of where I was back when the fat shaming happened. How about that? But this was, this was a fun episode and it is, it's a great listed. For those who maybe have not yet, this was back in 2024 called I was Fat Shamed. Enjoy. I got a house guest and she's a wonderful person and I, I appreciate her time and efforts to come and stay with us. My mother in law, she's, she's staying with us and she does it every summer and it's awesome. And the kids love it. And they, you know, this is, this is time to see grandma. I love it. This is time to see the mother in law. It cramped your style a little bit. She's staying in the studio. Okay. So the studio is not a hundred percent accessible. That's okay. We have workarounds. I'm, I'm mobile now. I can take the show on the road and go anywhere. So that's not an issue. So it's not a hundred percent because somebody is staying in the studio. Okay. I'm not, I'm not putting that on her. If you're listening right now, it's not on you. Okay. I'm just saying there's obstacles, there's challenges. This is, these are the things you deal with in life. Right? It's all good. But then you add in, hey, you're not feeling well. I've chronicled this on the show. Is that, is that what it means? Johnny Cronk. Yeah. I've chronic, I've, I've gone through the motions on this. I've had some health issues, some ups and downs. I'm still here, I'm still kicking. I'm now at war with my doctors, though. I don't know. Some people have had varying reasons that they're at war with their doctors. Sometimes it's over billing, sometimes it's over the level of care. Sometimes it's what they're asking you to do and you feel like maybe you shouldn't have to do it. Here's my deal. Everybody's on the same page. We know what's wrong with me right now. We know what test needs to be done. In fact, we have taken the labs, the blood in order to run the tests. They just keep messing up and having, haven't gotten the right test result. We, we will try for a third time in a couple of days. I'm laughing just to hide the anger. And you know, even though I have been extremely anemic the last couple of months, I like to think there's an end in sight with this and I can get, I can get what I need then. If not, I hope you all in memorial of me will go back and listen to old episodes. Keep, keep the dream alive. That's not the point. I have been dealing with a little bit of that and that's okay. That's life. We all have that. We get older and things just start, you know, falling off the cliff. You would think in the year of 2024 that we would have had figured out some way to just keep people with appropriate preventative care in order, you know, to stay healthy when, when things happen or to avoid things from happening. But in. Yeah, instead that's not what we are, what we are focused on. So it's all right. Healthcare in America, baby. It is something special. But sometimes things happen in your life that are a little stressful and they, you know, they don't need it need to happen. Talking about my guest, right? I'm a slim 175 to 180 weight. Weight. Weight range. Okay. I'm pretty comfortable at that, at that weight. Anything too much heavier than that, I know I've gained a little bit. Anything less than that, it's noticeable and probably not my prime place where I want to be. And I sway back and forth, you know, due to varying factors. But I'm at a good place currently in that range. She fat shamed me. My mother in law, she fat shamed me. And it. And in front of my kids, it. Right, my kids. Yeah. And I didn't even do any. I was eating, literally eating. You guys know I work really early in the morning. I'm talking 4, 4:30am I'm going at work. So then I get off work, 12:31:32 o'. Clock. Somewhere in that range sometimes, especially lately, your boy hasn't been getting a lot of breaks and opportunities to have a good lunch at work. So I come home, I'm hungry, I'll throw down a little bit of food just to get me some substance and get ready for the rest of the day. And she was fat shaming me like. You still eating? Yeah, I'm still eating. Yes I am. I need nutrients. I do. Yeah. The show's mobile now. We will be doing more episodes outside of the studio. Barley out of necessity. That's where we're at. I'm in the studio currently. Okay, here's another thing that we've had Going on. We had a death in the family. Okay. So now we've got more family coming in, and that's great. We all need to memorialize the lost and. But because of that, there's some folks had to leave the home currently to go rummage through her home. So it's like that's. That's all happening right now. And I'm like, hey, I'm going to get a fresh cut. I did. I got the fresh cut. Got that fresh cut feeling going right now. And then I'm gonna record an episode while I have a chance, because who knows how. How much time I've gotten here, But I'm looking around and I'm like, this studio, which for the most part, looks like a legit recording studio. We've done a hell of a Johnny credit to you, brother. I mean, a hell of a job here at the home. And, you know, like, that's not my blanket, and those aren't my pants. So you can tell it's just the vibes off a little bit. But we're gonna get that straight, you guys. I mean, that's the thing. Everybody goes through that phase or that part of the year, part of the week, whatever, you know, whatever you got going on in your life, people, you have guests, they come and they stay. And then when their stuff is in, that sometimes can sway, you know, the vibe a little bit. And here I am. Maybe, maybe when that vibe's off, I eat a little bit more. Okay, it's all right. Sometimes I need a little more. Maybe I am my anxiousness from having a guest around is causing me to burn more calories. And then I need to eat just a little bit. Just a little bit more. Could be, could be. It's not gonna stop me from doing a happy hour. We've got a brand new episode coming Friday, and this episode's not over yet either, because as soon as my time is up, I'm. I'm putting, like, you know, like, I'm trying to, like, reserve time here, and that way no one will bother me at the studio. But once the knock hits, it's like, all right, my time is up, right? I mean, it's shared space right now. Today's episode is brought to you by Distribution Center Comedy. Hey, what? This is what I did today. It's a big freaking deal. Big deal. So I'm at work this Morning. I'm probably, I don't know, two. Probably three feet face to face with a customer, right? Customer Yawns. Giant yawn. Some of you right now listening. Me just saying the word yawn. You're yawning. I didn't yawn. Not once. Looked him straight in the eye. Nothing. I was like, what are you doing? You tired? Yep. I laughed it off. Just built different, you know, not everybody can do that. Yawns are contagious. There's a lot of things contagious in this world. Yawns have. It's the original Covid, you know, everybody would get it. They'd put you down too. But, you know, not j. O. Not Jo laughs I'm gonna pause that real quick because the yawns contagious. Can you imagine if I had to go see my doctor right now because I was catching yawns? The level of care I would get from that, I'd be. I'd be. I'd be yawning for weeks or months at a time. And I've heard that this is a thing. Like, people will get hiccups for, like, years at a time. I would just be running around wild with com. With yawns. And I'm strong. Like, I am a strong person. I'll look you straight in the face. No yawning. I can counter that mentally. But at this point, if. If I was to catch a yawn. Nah. But that was. Yeah, that was probably the biggest win I had today. Just another day at the office, helping folks, doing the right things, selling stuff, being a company man. That's really. That's really what it came down to. Today. I sell gas. I mean, it's not hard. Everybody needs gasoline. They put it in their car. So I'm. I'm over here ranting and raving about how awesome I am for selling. It's. It's. It's gas. It's. It's nothing.

But I will say there was an area that maybe, I don't know, I could be better at for sure. It's not. It's not that I say or actually do anything wrong in this regard that causes any harm, but I know if the people that I'm thinking about when I see them knew what I was thinking at that time, they might be like, what? Who the hell do you think you are? And then I have to be, why? I'm Jeremy. And then it'd be a whole introduction process. But now when I see people walk in with a big nose, I immediately think, well, he got that thing on him. Instantly he got that thing on him. And I'm talking about that nose. Noses are different. Some people have big noses, some people have small noses. Some people just have the perfect nose. And maybe it was surgically repaired. I don't know. All I know is that, man, I notice. And some of y' all got that. Got that big thang on you, but it's like, there's not any cool. You know, people with big noses, sometimes they go, look at the honker on that guy. That's a terrible nickname. That's a terrible word to use when you're talking about somebody's big ass nose. It's not like feet. Like people who have big ass feet. They've got some cool nicknames. You know, they get called Bigfoot. That's legit Big wheels. Oh, look at the wheels on that guy. Heavy hitters. Heard that before. Oh, look at the. Look at the bigs on that girl. Ain't talking about her boobs. Talk about her feet. That's what they're talking about. Oh, look at this guy with his big timers. This feet. We need some cool nicknames for big ass noses, you know, we just do. They're just not the same as the feet. They get all the love. Here's the thing. The people with big nose, first of all, I, after the show aired, I. I did get some feedback, and people were like, oh, oh, are you talking about me? And I'm like, yeah, if you got that thing on you, I am, I am 100 talking about you. I'm like, oh, are you talking about just Jewish people? No, I'm not. But you know what? A lot of y' all do have that thing on you. What do you want me to say? I. I've said my piece. But the nickname thing is real because some of them nicknames for the big ass feet, like, those are cool. Like, look at the. Look at the roadrunners on that. Like, that's cool. Like, that would be sweet. Schnoz. People are, oh, what about that snout? Look at the schnauzer on that guy. Sounds like a made up word. And. And most knows nicknames are in that realm of like, schnozel, Schnagella. It's terrible. Terrible. People are, oh, look at the beak on that guy. Look at that trunk. And that's ridiculous because if you're talking about, oh, look at the trunk on that guy. I've. I've had that said about me. And they weren't talking about my nose. Thank you, Johnny. Just saying I encourage you to go back and listen to the, to the episode again. It's called that thing on him and it was out February 28th. It's gonna be different. It's going to be a lot of fun. But before we can begin be even begin to create and record video content, we got to get our studio back because the mother in law currently has, has taken it over and that's. Oh yeah, she's. She is knocking at the door. Probably needs to get a blanket or some socks or something. That's not even, it's not even just that. Did you I There's two small stairways to get down into my basement. I installed handrails. Handrails. And first of all, not only did I install handrails, I installed handrails basically professionally and from the eyes only. Like there was no special tools needed. I use a drill obviously to put in the screws and pre drill holes. But I did this all from eyesight and it's essentially professionally installed. They look incredible. You would have thought the house was built with these rails on. So kudos to me. There is not nearly enough being spoken on with these handrails around this house. It really should be brought up every time somebody sees me, but they don't. Instead it's why are you in my room? Why are you recording this podcast?

Host: Jeremy Odom
Date: May 13, 2026
Podcast: Laugh With Me (iHeartPodcasts)
Episode Theme: Revisiting the host’s experience with fat shaming, comedic takes on self-image, navigating family life, and the quirks of health and home.
In this special “rewind” episode, comedian and host Jeremy Odom reflects on a memorable incident from 2024 when he was fat shamed by his mother-in-law. Jeremy candidly uses humor and self-deprecation to tackle sensitive topics like body image, health issues, and managing family chaos—all while highlighting the everyday absurdities of his life and career. The episode blends personal anecdotes with sharp comedic observations, offering laughs and relatability for anyone juggling health, family, and self-perception.
[03:09 - 06:42]
Quote [03:23]:
“Who’s coming at the King with that?…There was no outlying issues here, you know, other than the Crohn’s disease…I dispute any fat shaming here of me. I don’t eat a lot…I just don’t like. It’s not like I’m sitting around eating all day, okay?”
— Jeremy Odom
[06:43 - 09:57]
Jeremy’s mother-in-law (the episode’s notorious “shamer”) moves in for the summer, taking over his recording studio:
He pokes fun at the unpredictability—balancing work, podcasting, and studio space with family underfoot.
[09:58 - 11:17]
Quote [11:10]: “You’d think in the year of 2024 that we’d have figured out some way to just keep people with appropriate preventative care…But yeah, healthcare in America, baby. It is something special.”
— Jeremy Odom
[11:18 - 13:18]
[13:19 - 16:13]
Shares that there was a recent death in the family, leading to more relatives in and out, items out of place, and further disruption to his routine.
Notes the communal effort in maintaining the home studio and the small victories (“That’s not my blanket, and those aren’t my pants…vibe’s off a little bit. But we’re gonna get that straight, you guys.”).
[18:49 - 25:35]
Quote [21:11]: “But I will say there was an area that maybe, I don’t know, I could be better at for sure…if the people that I’m thinking about when I see them knew what I was thinking at that time, they might be like, what? Who the hell do you think you are? And then I have to be, why? I’m Jeremy.”
— Jeremy Odom
[25:36 - 26:43]
On Fat Shaming:
“She fat shamed me. My mother in law, she fat shamed me. And in front of my kids…Yeah, I’m still eating. Yes I am. I need nutrients. I do.”
(Jeremy Odom, [11:33])
On Healthcare:
“We will try for a third time in a couple of days. I’m laughing just to hide the anger.”
(Jeremy Odom, [10:29])
On Eating & Stress:
“Maybe when that vibe’s off, I eat a little bit more. Okay, it’s all right. Sometimes I need a little more…Maybe my anxiousness from having a guest around is causing me to burn more calories.”
(Jeremy Odom, [12:48])
On Customer Interactions:
“I sell gas. I mean, it’s not hard. Everybody needs gasoline. They put it in their car.”
(Jeremy Odom, [20:47])
On Big Noses vs. Big Feet:
“We need some cool nicknames for big ass noses…But the nickname thing is real because some of them nicknames for the big ass feet, like, those are cool. Like, look at the—look at the roadrunners on that.”
(Jeremy Odom, [22:04])
In this “rewind” episode, Jeremy Odom turns an awkward fat-shaming moment from his past into a comedy springboard, using it to riff on self-image, health, and the complex joys and stresses of family life. Listeners are treated to Jeremy’s irrepressible spin on everything from dealing with medical bureaucracy and mother-in-law invasions to the injustice of nose nicknames. Through it all, Jeremy keeps the laughs coming while showing genuine warmth for his family—even those who roast him.
A fun episode for anyone who’s ever felt judged by family, been derailed by life’s small struggles, or just needs a reminder to laugh at themselves.
