I do.
Johnny
I've gained a lot of weight.
Jeremy
Well, I mean, I think that's like life isn't that life?
Johnny
You didn't gain weight.
Jeremy
I did. Yeah. We were just talking about being like in high school and leaving and eating Little Caesars and we'd eat a whole pizza and it's like it never Even happened. First of all, now I can't even eat a whole pizza. Second of all, if I do, it ain't ending well.
Johnny
Johnny, order a whole pizza right now and let's see if Kyle can eat it.
Jeremy
I cannot. I just said this. So.
Johnny
Yeah, but we're going to challenge. We're going to see. We're going to see.
Jeremy
I bet if it was a challenge, I could probably get through it.
Johnny
Yeah, that's what I want.
Jeremy
I would have hurt, though. I would just not be a well person.
Johnny
Yeah, that's what we're looking for. I mean, not for you not to be well, but we're looking for her.
Jeremy
You're like, if I'm hurting, you better be hurting, too.
Johnny
Well, that's always how it is. All right, I'm going to do my. I'm going to do my intro now. Okay. Or do you want to do the intro for me.

Poet/Narrator
Jeremy stares at the stats and shaking over takeout boxes. Johnny's already mapping hotels on a napkin with crazy crosses. They quit jobs they kind of hate, tell their bosses, catch the show. Boss just shrugs. Hope it's funny. Johnny grins.
Johnny
You'll never know. And we're here with a. You've been a guest many, many times. You haven't been on a long time. He claims he was hashtag shadow band. He has not been. And this just further proves. I mean that, right?
Jeremy
No. So I've been shadow banned, which is fine. I have nothing against this, but I was shadow banned. And this just proves that. You're trying to make it seem like I'm not shadow banned, but I still am. And that's fine. It's all good.
Johnny
That's false. It's my brother. It's Kyle Odom. Johnny hit that plot. And we do have to start with this is. This is me being humble. Okay, I know you're shocked, but this is. This is me being humble right now. You listened to the Friday Happy hour, which number 20, by the way. Can we get some recognition for that? Johnny? Thank you. 20 episodes of the Friday Happy Hour.
Jeremy
It's pretty good.
Johnny
Already in the bank. Okay, you listen to it and you then hit me with you stole My idea. And I'm like, what are you talking about? Well, I do remember having a conversation with somebody about the idea of having, like, the merch stand in, like, movie theaters. You know, the movie ends, and Grant and I talked about it on the Friday happy hour. And it's like this, you know, you. When you leave, you have to walk through it. Like the souvenir shop at, like, an aquarium at the zoo and stuff. And you have to walk through. They force you to walk through. And then you've got DVDs and VHS and it can be kind of like old school. Here's physical media. Also T shirts and merch from the movies and all that stuff. Yeah, genius idea. And I tagged amc and I was like, let's go. Let's go. That was your idea? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jeremy
You took the whole thing? Actually, I had this whole. I don't have many plans in my life, but I had this plan like, hey, whenever I do retire, I'd like to open a theater. And not for necessarily new movies, although maybe that's a thing. But for, like, events like, hey, the Saturday is the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Come spend 20 bucks and watch it. And then when you leave. Yeah. It's like a dang physical media store. You took the whole thing and threw it out into the world?
Johnny
I took it, yes. And did I put out in the world? Absolutely.
Jeremy
So, yes, you did the whole thing.
Johnny
So did I mean to do that? Did I know I did that? No, I could not remember, this was your idea. Just remember the idea and remember talking about it with somebody and was like, that's a good idea.
Jeremy
Yeah, it's a bunch of crap. And then you got Grant, you know, That's a good idea. Yeah, no shit. I'm aware. Why? It's my retirement plan. And instead, now it's just gonna be gone and somebody else gonna do it, and they're gonna do a great job, and I will support them, but I'm sad about it.
Johnny
Somebody needs to do it.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
That's.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Been established.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And honestly, credit to you for coming up with the idea and then credit to me for putting it out there for the people.
Jeremy
No, it should not have been out there for the people. This was for me to be able to retire.
Johnny
Credit to me for maybe motivating you to do it faster.
Jeremy
No. Cause I'm not going to. So I don't have time. That was the whole. That's why it's retirement, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then you have time to do whatever you want. That was What I was gonna do, and now it's just gonna be gone. So now I'll just mow lawns, I guess, which is fine.
Johnny
You've had a few retirement ideas. I know. Or. Or. Or you just a guy who brings ideas to the table for people to do in retirement. Because I know you were telling our dad, like, he needs to open Laundromat.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
What? Number one, why Laundromat? And two, was this something you were gonna do and you were just bringing them in on it or what? How was that gonna work out?
Jeremy
Yeah. So here's the deal. I don't have any time for any of this stuff right now. That's just. Yes.
Johnny
Yeah, yeah.
Jeremy
But, yeah, when I retire, it's like, dude, why wouldn't you open a laundromat? People are just doing laundry. Yes. There's some overhead. Yes. Oh, a machine's gonna break. That's fine. But, like, dude, Laundromat, you're just making money, Right? So it's like you just get to still enjoy life. Like, hey, I work so hard now I get to kind of relax. Yes. You're still running a business, but it's bringing in more money than the work it creates. Life's good.
Johnny
So I've always had this idea of a laundromat with a beer. Beer. A bar attached to it. Because you're waiting.
Jeremy
You are waiting.
Johnny
And now you have a place to wait.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And spend money.
Jeremy
Okay, here's a better idea.
Johnny
Okay.
Jeremy
Actually, that's a great idea. I like that. But here's a better idea, because here's the deal. I bet there's hours where it's slow, right?
Johnny
Oh, 100%.
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah. But you still want to serve the public.
Johnny
Yep.
Jeremy
What about if it's like. Well, shoot, how do you check id? I was thinking some sort of beer vending machine.
Johnny
Because it's like, beer vending.
Jeremy
Yeah. You're still offering everything, but, like, you don't gotta staff this thing.
Johnny
Mmm. Oh, okay.
Jeremy
Here's an idea.
Johnny
All right, we're spitballing here.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
What about a Laundromat? Also, you start a vending business. You've got the vending machines in the laundromat. Maybe an entire bank of them or something.
Jeremy
Great.
Johnny
And you're making money on everything.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah. This is great. See, this is what we're doing.
Johnny
And the same people that run that work the Laundromat, which there won't be many, but the same people who run that.
Daniel Alarcon
Yeah.
Johnny
Will also be filling the vending machine.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
You know?
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
This is great.
Johnny
This is great.
Jeremy
Yeah. See, dad is not. He doesn't want any of this.
Johnny
He does.
Jeremy
We're like, here's gold. And he's like, what if I just didn't do any of that? I think. Okay, I'm cool with that.
Johnny
I think I get where he's coming from, though, because he's thinking of, why would I want to start in retirement a business that's going to require me to have to be so involved.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
But to your point, you're saying no. Hire someone to do that.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And then you just are the guy who's making sure everything's, you know, good. You're just, you know, managing from over top.
Jeremy
Yeah. And it'll probably be a little bit of work up front. Like, you're gonna be working.
Johnny
You're gonna be working, but then you
Jeremy
get this thing running and it's like, let's go.
Johnny
And that's the goal.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
It's great.
Johnny
It's a great idea. Honestly.
Poet/Narrator
Yeah.
Jeremy
So if anybody needs any retirement jobs, just come to me, I guess, and we'll work it out.
Johnny
So that was. So you're. Hold on. We're going to get through your list. So you've got the Laundromat and now we've got Laundromat slash vending.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And maybe a bar. We're looking at it.
Jeremy
Yeah. We're looking at a great idea.
Johnny
We're actually seriously looking at it. And then the other one was the souvenir shop partnership with the movie theaters, which someone's gonna run with that now.
Carvana Advertiser
Yeah.
Johnny
So that's gone.
Jeremy
It's great.
Johnny
What was the other ideas?
Jeremy
My latest one was a campground. Right.
Johnny
Yep.
Jeremy
Okay. Because here's the deal.
Johnny
Yeah. They have ever. They do.
Jeremy
But listen. Oh, you're not creating one. Okay. You're not building one. You're just buying one. But here's the deal. You go to campground, right? If you've ever had any problems, say your electrical didn't work, or say, I don't know, you have problems. Right. You're always like, let me talk to the manager. Because you're Karen, you're. I gotta talk to the manager at the campground. Who's the manager? Campground. It's always some rando retired person who gets out of their motorhome that's parked close to the building. Right.
Carvana Advertiser
Okay.
Jeremy
It's like, that's just their job.
Johnny
That's what.
Jeremy
They live there. They don't get to pay rent or whatever. It's just like, you just kind of maintain this thing. Whatever. Like, that's not the owner. Like, somebody who owns that thing, they just bought it. They talk to whoever runs the thing and, like, that's it. And like, what's the upkeep? You pay somebody to mow the thing.
Johnny
Yep.
Jeremy
You keep it stocked with firewood. Okay. That. That's the whole thing? That's the entire expense of the thing?
Johnny
Yep.
Jeremy
So, like, it's easy, right? Folks paying you to come park there for a weekend. It's great.
Johnny
Do you.
Jeremy
Great.
Johnny
It is great. So you know how when you. When you run, like, maybe you don't know this when you own, like, a car wash. Yeah. There's a lot of, you know, things. Expenses involved that involve, like, the. The drainage and the water and all that stuff.
Michael Rapaport
Yeah.
Johnny
You think there's anything involved in that with a campground?
Jeremy
No.
Johnny
Oh, no.
Jeremy
Well, how could there be? Because you're not, like, operating anything. You know what I mean?
Johnny
Restrooms.
Jeremy
What's the runoff?
Johnny
A swimming pool.
Jeremy
Yeah, the restrooms would.
Johnny
Do you think there's a pond or a lake or anything that would require.
Jeremy
Oh, there's a lake, but that's living its best lake life.
Johnny
Oh, lakes. So that's the other thing. I don't know anything about permits or any upkeep of lakes, but I would imagine there's something.
Jeremy
No, no. We run the campground. The lake is its own thing.
Johnny
So you're running the campground next to a lake?
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And the lake's its own thing?
Jeremy
Yeah. You can't own a lake. Or can you? I don't know.
Johnny
You can.
Jeremy
You can own a lake.
Johnny
I think you can.
Jeremy
Oh, gosh, that sounds expensive.
Johnny
Yeah, that's my point. For example, you know the Lenoma Beach?
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
Okay.
Jeremy
Do I ever.
Johnny
So there's water? Yeah. As part of that.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
I think they own that water.
Jeremy
You think so?
Johnny
I think so. I don't think it's just water there and they own the land around it. I. I'll look into it.
Jeremy
That's interesting.
Johnny
Johnny, please look this up. But I do think that they own that water.
Jeremy
That's interesting.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
So I never considered this. Okay, so.
Johnny
Okay.
Jeremy
What kind of upkeep could there be in a lake? It's a lake.
Johnny
Cleaning it.
Jeremy
You don't clean a lake.
Johnny
Are you kidding me?
Jeremy
I'm not kidding you.
Daniel Alarcon
It's a lake.
Jeremy
It's outside.
Johnny
Yeah. What if the. A bunch of trash got into it? What if raw sewage got into it?
Jeremy
Doesn't.
Johnny
It does.
Jeremy
How?
Johnny
From people.
Jeremy
People.
Johnny
Sometimes people.
Jeremy
No, those people are out. Those People gotta go.
Johnny
No, you have to get rid of those people. But. But this is a thing. And because for it to be safe, for people to be able to swim and boat and partake in your lake.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
It has to reach a certain level of, like, sanitation. Like, there's like a. A number.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Of some type that is red. That the parks department will come around and they'll check it, and otherwise they'll shut you down.
Jeremy
Yeah. I might not have thought this one through. Yeah, you're right. This one you could poke some holes in.
Sam Jae
Yeah.
Johnny
That's what we're here to do. We're here to work.
Jeremy
The lake might just be its own thing. Okay.
Johnny
So we're gonna just assume the lake's its own thing. We're not worried about it. No, we're not owning a lake. Okay.
Jeremy
All right. Yeah.
Johnny
Okay. Well, back to the original issue, which was, dad was like, well, that's too much work. I don't want to do it Involved. But I was thinking about, like, what you were saying again. This is another situation where you just hire people to do it.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
And you run it.
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah. Great.
Johnny
I think it's not a bad idea. Do people. People still camp and stuff, right?
Jeremy
Oh, they'd be camping all the time. It's always full. You ever go camp?
Johnny
Do I. Yeah. Yeah.
Jeremy
No, I know, but if you did, and we don't very often either, but if you do and you go to book a site, you'll see that like, a crap ton of those sites are booked already.
Johnny
And do you think there's. That's because a lot of people are still doing it or because maybe there's less places or you think there's the same amount of places?
Jeremy
That's a fair question. If I were to guess. I mean, there's. I guess there's. Could there be less?
Johnny
I have no idea.
Jeremy
I don't know either.
Johnny
Johnny.
Jeremy
I think. I think. I think people are just be camping. They're out there camping. Okay. You know?
Johnny
Yeah. No, trust me, I know.
Jeremy
So money's tight everywhere.
Johnny
Yep.
Jeremy
It's a very cost effective way to take your family on vacation. Just saying.
Johnny
Yeah, I could see how that could be. I mean, instead of hotels and being in town and renting cars, you can
Jeremy
just plop, squat, be out there in the wilderness.
Johnny
I said Papa Squad. I meant papa.
Jeremy
Yeah, that was weird. You just be plopping all the time.
Johnny
Yeah, that's how humble I am. I called out my own mistake.
Jeremy
I was gonna let it ride.
Johnny
Thank you.
Jeremy
Yeah, it's Your podcast. I'm just the guest.
Johnny
Yeah, yeah. Generally, people come on here and they want to call me out on some bullshit, and then here you are like, hey, I know you stole my idea. Yeah, we don't have to bring it up. I wanted to bring it up.
Jeremy
I try to be a nice guy, but, yeah, you just be plopping squats, so, you know, it happens, man.
Johnny
The more we talk about this lake, I'm thinking maybe we just buy a lake.
Jeremy
How do you make money on that?
Johnny
I have no idea. But how cool would it be to have a lake, huh?
Jeremy
You're correct. You're correct. We could just have a lake, Right. No money, but we're just loving the lake.
Johnny
Like somebody else's lake.
Jeremy
That's a retirement plan that's just enjoying life, which sounds cool.
Johnny
Yeah. But do we own the lake?
Jeremy
You just said we do.
Johnny
Did you want to rename the lake? If you owned a lake, would you rename it or did you roll what it is?
Jeremy
I think I'd roll with it.
Johnny
Did you know you can build a lake?
Jeremy
Yeah, dude. You just dig a hole.
Johnny
You've never thought about doing that?
Jeremy
No. Where am I building a lake at?
Johnny
You act like I have all the answers. I'm just. You're the idea guys.
Jeremy
I'm far from retirement. These ideas are, like, decades down the road.
Johnny
All right. Yeah, that's fair.
Jeremy
Yeah. All right.
Johnny
Well, I mean, we're here because last night, we. We went to a concert.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah, we did.
Johnny
And so this. This originally, I saw that is Bouncing Souls and Suicide Machine. So it was a classic punk rock show, and it was a lot of fun. It came about because I saw they were coming, and I'm like, that seems like right up Kyle's alley.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
I sent it to you, and you're, like, 100% I'm in.
Jeremy
Yeah. It was unbelievably up my alley. I mean, Bouncing Souls are classics, but the Suicide Machines are, like, one of my favorites. And they play the entire album of their best album, Destruction by Definition. And it was everything you ever could ask for.
Johnny
And the only thing that sucked about them playing that album is that they played the songs in order, which means the. The. The best song was played first. New Girl.
Jeremy
Well, the whole. The whole thing is great.
Johnny
It was. Oh, yeah, I'm saying banger after banger.
Jeremy
Banger it was.
Johnny
But the best song was first.
Jeremy
That's great. Here's the deal. I'm not a big fan of, like,
Johnny
you know, saving your best.
Jeremy
Yes. Like, you know, it's coming. You know, that's what the people want. Like, dude, just give us some. Surprise us for when it happens. Obviously, this wasn't surprised. It was the first song, but, like, give us something where it's, like, just busted out in the middle of the set and then the people going wild, you know?
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
Just saying.
Johnny
Yeah, I. I do like it when there's, like, a new band on the scene and they're, you know, not necessarily headlining, but they're just trying to. They're doing features and stuff.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And there's one song that the majority of the people, they're going to know them for.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
And they bust that out right away so that everybody's on the same page of. Oh, yeah, I know these guys. And then hopefully you'll find something else you like. Yeah, Like, I'm totally down with that. But when you have an established band and they have a catalog, and it's like, just build up to it, and then let's go crazy at the end.
Jeremy
Now, here's the deal. Everybody does that. So, one, do something different. But two, I think there's a little bit of a. Every song that you play that's not that song, everybody's like, when are they gonna play that song? Like, and there's good parts of that, and there's bad parts of that. Sometimes they're just distracted. They're like, I can't fully enjoy what's happening. Cause I'm really looking forward to this.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
Sometimes you just gotta give them this and trust that they're gonna be all in on the rest of it.
Johnny
All right, that's actually fair. Because there is a lot of, like, oh, okay. It's not. Yeah, let me go get a beer.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Bathroom. Or something like that.
Jeremy
Exactly.
Johnny
Yeah, that's fair. Well, we went to the show.
Carvana Advertiser
Yeah.
Jeremy
I.
Johnny
Most of us came out alive.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
I'm pretty banged up from this thing. I mean.
Jeremy
And I'm still banged.
Johnny
I'm hurting.
Jeremy
You're perpetually banged.
Johnny
I'm ice. Yeah, we. I think it's you. Because just saw you a few weeks ago, and I broke my back skateboarding, which was awesome. It was awesome.
Jeremy
It was great. You got hurt. That was not great. But you got hurt. Hattie just had the time of her life watching you get hurt.
Johnny
We do need to talk about that. Let's. We're gonna circle back to the skateboard.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Because people were like, who filmed it? Like, what? We. We want to talk to the man with the camera. But at this concert, and I don't Know, we're. We're getting older.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
Right.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
But sometimes when the music speaks, yet when the band comes on and plays the best song, first, you're hyped.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And you roll up and you just want to jump in the pit. And that's what I did immediately. And then I slipped and fell immediately. And unlike from the skateboard, where I landed flat on my back a little bit on my right hip, I went. I tried to, like, catch myself with my left hand, and I hurt my wrist so bad it hurts still there the next night, and. And then, you know, I felt super good the rest of the night. John. Living in the pit, you know, for.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
You know, both bands. And then even hype myself up to stage dive. I've never done that. That was my first time.
Jeremy
You just did it.
Johnny
I just did it. Yeah. So. All right, so just a little backstory, too. And here's how I got there.
Jeremy
Okay.
Johnny
I go through the pit, and then I happen to see Eric at the front. He's, like, two people deep from the stage, and I'm like, what is this guy doing here?
Jeremy
Yeah, how do you get up?
Johnny
I mean, he was at the show. He came with us.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Sam Jae
Yeah.
Johnny
But I didn't know he was up front. So then I. I go up front, I'm like, yeah, what's up? He's like, find my hat. He lost his hat.
Jeremy
Just like that. He's not like, what's up?
Johnny
He's like, yeah, like, not. I'm not gonna find your hat. So we're rolling, and then there's this guy in this white T shirt to the left of me, and he's. He's having the time of his life, but maybe the guy next to him was bumping him or something, and you know that's gonna happen. Yeah, Right?
Jeremy
It's a show.
Johnny
And he got in that guy's face, and it looked like we were gonna have a fight, but I de. Escalated. I immediately got. I put my hands on that guy's shoulders, and I was like, it's good, it's good, it's good. And then pushed him into the pit because I felt, like.
Jeremy
Weird move.
Johnny
We had to de. Escalate from the fight, and he needed to get that energy out.
Jeremy
Okay, so it works. Yeah.
Johnny
Instead of getting mad, he was rocking the pit. He was all over the place. I'm like, he gets it. He gets it. Because the pit is for two things, all right? There's two rules you live by in the pit. You get in, you get into the Pit, and you're a family. Instantly.
Jeremy
Instantly. This is.
Johnny
These are people looking out for each other. If you fall, you pick them back up, and that's immediately what they did.
Jeremy
When I slipped and fell, do you slip on, like. Was it like, beer? Some, or you just slipped out of nowhere?
Johnny
Had to have been because I was wearing shoes with good. Good grip.
Jeremy
Oh, so it had.
Johnny
Yeah. Like, new issues.
Jeremy
Yeah. You just went down.
Johnny
Had to have, like, slipped on some beer or something.
Jeremy
But they picked you up.
Johnny
They picked me up instantly.
Jeremy
Okay.
Johnny
Right. So I get picked up. So that's thing. They're a family. You're in there, you're bumping, you're dancing. This is. It's. It's family. It's a positive energy. Right. For the show. Then the second thing is the people directly surrounding the circle who are not a part of the pit. You are part of the pit. Your job is to keep those people within the pit.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
So you're pushing them. You're pushing them. You're keeping the flow going. You're not to get mad as people are bumping. So as this guy's getting bummed, I'm thinking, buddy, you need to get in the pit. Like, you need to let this energy out. Exactly. And you need to understand the family. So it worked because he came back and he was smiling and he was having the time of his life. So then I'm like, let's keep this. Let's keep this going. Lift me up. So I point, I grab. I. I tap him on the shoulder again, and I do the, you know, point up. I'm like, lift me up. He goes, yeah. Lifts me right up on stage. And it instantly. Well, I kind of rolled.
Jeremy
Hey, however you get up there. Yeah, it is. But then you got up.
Johnny
But then you're. And that might explain some of the bruises because I had to roll over the, like, the. The speakers for the band.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And so then I get up, and then I instantly. You know. You saw me, right? You saw me in the crowd. And what were you thinking when you see me just, like, pop up?
Jeremy
I was just thinking, hell, yeah. So obviously, very unexpected.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
I know you and Eric are out there somewhere in the world. I did not join in that. I'm just living my best life back here, enjoying the show. You got folks jumping up there, doing the thing or whatever, which you see at every show. Yeah. And then you're up there, which is just blowing my mind. And I'm like, oh, my God, is he going to die? What is happening? He can't handle a skateboard for three seconds, and now he's about to jump off this fricking stage. And then you jumped off that frigging stage.
Johnny
I did.
Jeremy
And I could not see. I'm not the tallest guy in the world. I could not see if they caught you or dropped you. I don't even know what happened.
Johnny
So they kind of did both. They

The World cup is underway and it's been incredible. On our podcast, the Away End, with Daniel Alarcon and John Green, we're talking about the games that have delighted us, the the teams that have inspired us, what we're loving and what surprised us all through the lens of being massive fans of the world's most beautiful game.
Daniel Alarcon
Daniel this tournament has been magical so far. The expanded field of teams has created some incredible matchups that have already made this World cup one to remember. And now things get even more exciting with the intensity of the knockout rounds as the field is whittled down to one World cup champion on July 19.
Host/Announcer
When you say it like that, I get a pain in my heart that the tournament is over, but there's a lot of soccer yet to go, and if the first few games of the round 32 are any indication, anything is possible in the lead up to the final. We've got it covered from an ultra's perspective here on the Away end.
Daniel Alarcon

Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it getting a new one put up in its place.
Sponsor/Announcer
As long as there's a politics of
Johnny
race in America, there's going to be
Jeremy
a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert E. Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway.
Ari Chambers
If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job.
Akilah Hughes
I'm Akilah Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space.
Johnny
We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that?
Jeremy
They are just fueling a fire that is really catching.
Akilah Hughes
You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Michael Rapaport
This is Michael Rapaport and my podcast, the I Am Rappaport Stereo podcast, is unlike anyone you've ever heard. We're a variety show, and if you're looking for strong opinions, funny opinions about sports, entertainment, politics, pop culture, and whatever else catches my attention, then subscribe and subscribe now. This kid, Jafar Jackson, is as good as Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, and it's as good as Timothee Shamalay as Bob Dylan. And I say that with love and respect for both of those actors. And I don't know how many Oscar nominations they give out. I don't know if it's 5, 6 for best actor, 150%. This kid, Jafar Jackson should absolutely, positively get nominated for his portrayal as Michael Jackson. Listen to I Am rapaport on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Poet/Narrator
I Am Rappaport podcast.
Johnny
Okay, back to what we talked about the very beginning. I think I've gained a little weight, okay?
Jeremy
And that's happened.
Johnny
Those folks, I don't. They gave one look at me, and I don't think they expected the mass coming their way because then I, I jump, you know, and I didn't, I didn't want to get too much height because I knew that could be a problem.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Johnny
So I just kind of like, you know.
Jeremy
Yeah. And you did it right. You didn't even give him too much chance to think about. You were on there.
Johnny
You were awesome. Perfect.
Jeremy
Yes, great.
Johnny
You gotta just trust fall, right?
Jeremy
Yep, absolutely.
Johnny
So then I just go and I drop in and they kinda. They did what they could to keep me upright.
Jeremy
They broke your fall?
Johnny
They broke my fall.
Jeremy
Okay.
Poet/Narrator
All right.
Johnny
So I didn't surf as much as I cannonballed, I guess.
Jeremy
That's awesome. Yeah, that was great. I was so pumped.
Johnny
But I didn't hit the ground, so that was good. And then. And then. And then they were totally cool. When I was feet on the ground and they're looking back, they knew I was safe. I knew I was safe. And they were like, hell, yeah, man. Like, again, it's a family out there.
Jeremy
Yeah. Yeah.
Johnny
I've had experience of the. Of the crowd. Surfers, where it sucks. Like Warped Tour, watching All American Rejects and getting kicked in the head and.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Now I got a migraine, you know, in the heat, because I keep getting kicked in the head. Maybe that's on me. Maybe I wasn't. I was too in tune with the band and I wasn't taking care of my family out there. I don't know. I don't know.
Jeremy
Gotta take care of each other.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
But that night, last night was, like, perfect. It's like everybody knew, you know, what you got to do. Everybody was on the same page. Dude, it was awesome.
Johnny
It was. What was your. What was the favorite song you saw? The song that you were like. That's it. That's the one.
Jeremy
Well, I mean, new girl, right? New girl. But I mean, truly. And I don't even know if this is actually, like, part of the album or if they just threw it in at the end, but they did the Minor Threat cover at the very end. Last song they covered Minor Threat. I don't want to hear it. Which I was not expecting. And it was freaking awesome. So that was great.
Johnny
I bet they just threw that in because I don't think it's on the end.
Jeremy
I don't think it is either. That's the thing. I was like. Is that like a hidden track after the last song and I just forgot about it or. Yeah, either way, it was bomb. And it was a killer way to end the set.
Johnny
Yeah, they were certainly the highlight for me. But then, like, Bouncing Souls, you know, they played through their album and it was fine. It was fun. Yeah. And then, you know, then they started doing Mantham after. And I'm like, this is it. Lean on Sheen.
Jeremy
Yeah. Oh, it's great.
Sam Jae
That's.
Johnny
That's when I was like, okay, yeah, Bouncing Souls.
Jeremy
Yeah, but that's the thing. So. And I love Bouncing Souls, but they do this thing where they play, like two songs that you're like, this is good. And then they'd hit, like, one of their awesome ones. You're like, great. And then it's back to like, two. It's like, Lost Opportunity.
Johnny
And I'm. I've so out of. I haven't gone to many shows this year. So, like, when I do go, it's like Bowling for Soup.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And they. They. They play the hits, but then they bullshit and they joke around a lot and it's part of the entertainment and it's awesome. Yep. Bouncy souls. They get to business. They get to business.
Jeremy
They get to.
Johnny
And they just play. They just go, yeah. And so I wasn't quite used to that. I'm just like, give me a joke. I want some jokes. Give me the.
Jeremy
On the opposite. I remember seeing Bone for Soup and being like, do these guys know how to play their instruments? What are they going to play these songs? What is happening right now? And I loved it when they're playing. I loved it. And the jokes were good, but it's like I could hear nine more songs if you would just play them right now.
Johnny
That's like people who complain when they go see Blink 182 and they're like. They're so crass in between the songs. And. And I'm like, tell me you don't know Blink182. When people complain about the bullshitting and the jokes at a Blank for Soup show. Like, tell me you've never been to a boy.
Jeremy
I know. And it was my first show. I was like, I don't understand what's happening.
Johnny
But then, yeah, Bouncing Souls. I'm just like, give me the bullshit. Where's the bullshit?
Jeremy
No bullshit.
Michael Rapaport
Yeah.
Jeremy
Very serious.
Johnny
People cranking it.
Jeremy
It.
Johnny
Yeah, they really were. Maybe, you know, it's hot.
Jeremy
Yeah. I don't know. It's a Friday. It's my second show of the tour. Maybe they're, like, easing into it.
Johnny
It was the second show.
Jeremy
Suicide Machines did not seem like they're easing into it. They were just ready to go. Awesome start to finish. But, yeah, Bouncing Soul seemed like it felt like his second show of the tour kind of thing.
Johnny
Suicide Machines looked like they'd been on tour for the last month straight, and they couldn't be happier. Like, this was it.
Jeremy
Yeah. Is awesome.
Johnny
Which is so cool for a band has been around as long as they have.
Jeremy
Yeah, yeah. You died, but you survived somehow.
Johnny
You. So I wake up. I mean, the night was rough because, yeah, I was hurt. It was just. I went. I went.
Michael Rapaport
We went.
Johnny
We went hard, right? So I wake up to bruises all over me. Yeah, My. The middle of my chest is got. It's not. You can't visibly see a bruise, but it's. It hurts, like, to touch.
Jeremy
You're going to see it in, like, two days.
Johnny
And the thing is, I don't know if that came from the show or from Eric just straight punching me in the middle of my chest. Because I've had that many times where I've, you know, put my hand on my chest and I'm like, what happened? And it was. Cause fricking Eric's just swinging.
Jeremy
He was swinging at me last night.
Johnny
He was. Was that in the car?
Jeremy
Yeah, back of the car. He's just free swinging. And I was warning him. Cause drunk Eric gets kind of wild. You don't even know what he's doing. He probably doesn't even know what he's doing. I warned him. I was like, dude, every one swing you throw my way, I'm gonna trap your arm, and I'm gonna give you four very hard punches. I warned him. He. And I did it. And every time he swung at me, four very hard punches. So he. When he finally woke up today, he's like, yeah, I feel all right. I have a very large bruise on my arm, but think I'm doing. It's like, dude, I tried to warn you, man. I don't know.
Johnny
He's also. He's someone, too. You're going to tell him exactly what you're going to do. Yeah, don't do it. Yeah, he'll do it.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Because he thinks he's going to get away with it. He's like, yeah, all right. You're not going to do it. I'm going to punch you. And then you do it. And then. All right. Everything's even. And then he's like, I'm gonna get away with it, and he's gonna punch it. And you. I'm gonna come back at you again.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
He's like, that's just.
Host/Announcer
That's how.
Johnny
That guy is crazy. So I'm hurting. Yeah, yeah. My wrist is. I'm. I'm gonna have to wrap it tonight. But here's the thing. A couple weeks ago, I see you, and I break My back.
Jeremy
Yeah. Day one.
Johnny
So I thought. And I know I've covered it on the. On the show, but, like, I. I think we were good. We were good. Like, you showed me kind of some balance things, and I was feeling pretty good about the ramp.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And then, like, the competitiveness in me was like, I can get the board up higher than you on the ramp.
Jeremy
Yeah. That was our downfall.
Sam Jae
Yeah.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
How did you come away unscathed?
Jeremy
Well, okay. I don't know, because I had a close call, too, so I. Same. It's like, well, you want to win? If we're gonna do something where it's like, let's track this. It's like, you want to win. That's just, like, who we are. And so I do the thing where I go up a little bit higher than I was going up, and then it just went out from under me. But I, like. I think I lucked into, like, a pretty good roll. So I hit the ground, but I, like, rolled out of it, and it was fine. You did not have that good fortune. Yeah. You pushed it a little more than we were doing earlier, which, like I said, I did. Flew out from under you. Yeah. And you just smacked, and it was like. It was so brutal. I thought you were, like, gonna die, but just did. The look on Hattie's face. She's just cracking up in the background. It was my favorite thing that's ever happened. Yeah.
Johnny
She enjoyed it way more than I. I think I wanted her to enjoy that.
Sponsor/Announcer
She.
Johnny
That was one of her top five moments in her life, I think, watching me hit that ground.
Jeremy
She was dying. I'm like, are you breathing? Are you okay? What do we need to do? She was just dying, laughing.
Johnny
I was not breathing, and I completely knocked the. The wind out from under me and.
Jeremy
Great.
Johnny
Yeah. I mean, that's. That's. That happens, right? It. I mean, doesn't it happen?
Jeremy
It happens. That was, like, day one, I was like, oh, well, now he died. This is not good.
Johnny
We're gonna. We're gonna air the. The sound.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
Just so the people. Oh, hold on. That's. Let's find the clip because. Hold on. I need to see if. Oh, here we go.
Jeremy
Okay, Johnny.
Michael Rapaport
Okay.
Poet/Narrator
Oh,
Michael Rapaport
okay.
Jeremy
Oh,
Michael Rapaport
okay.
Johnny
Oh. I mean, you can watch this on any of our social media platforms. We put the clip up, but, like, you.
Jeremy
You.
Johnny
You knew it was bad because you. That's you. Yeah. You can hear me?
Jeremy
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Dude, you hit the ground hard, man.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
And it's just concrete, and it's like, dude, you can't prepare for that.
Johnny
What were you think? Because you instantly stopped recording.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Were you. Because. Was it because you were like, I want to see if he's okay.
Jeremy
Yes.
Johnny
Because like I didn't hit my head so my brain was fine and I instantly. Once I could like talk because I couldn't breathe. Yeah. I wanted to make sure you got it on tape.
Jeremy
Oh yeah.
Johnny
You feel you got that right? And you did. I'm like, okay, now I can worry about my back.
Jeremy
Pretty good angle.
Johnny
It was a very good angle. Yeah, no, just a, just an all time drop. It was ground.
Jeremy
It was great. And you were. You like.
Poet/Narrator
You get that?
Jeremy
I was like, yes, I got that. I wish I would have got Hattie laughing. More. More.
Johnny
I put it on Tik Tok and huge like 25, 000 people or something. Were, were into it. Look, comments were very supportive. Hey, I did not expect. Get back up there, get on the board. This happens. We all fall. Like I didn't expect the skateboarding community.
Jeremy
Yeah, that's the community from last night.
Johnny
Yes, it was.
Sam Jae
That's.
Jeremy
It was.
Johnny
It all comes back full circle. Cuz like you, you fall, we're going to pick you back up.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
You know.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Rancid. They said it best.
Jeremy
They did.
Johnny
When I fall down.
Jeremy
See.
Johnny
Pick you back up again.
Jeremy
Absolutely. It's life lesson. We need more of that in the world.
Johnny
We really do.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Yeah. I think there's a lot to be learned from the skateboard like punk community that we've forgotten. Because I know at one point as a culture, we, we were there.
Jeremy
It's true. But then the Internet, I think the Internet teaches you to like point and laugh at other folks no matter what. And if anybody has success, you're supposed to be like, well, yeah, but you
Johnny
also suck at this.
Jeremy
And it's like, why can't we just be like, hey man, nice job, Keep going. Like just build everybody up. Like, you know what I mean? It's weird. I think it's weird to want to hate on folks all the time.
Johnny
But so you can tell that even in this amazing community of people we experienced last night, you can get a taste of some of that hates in there. Because I'm outside of the show waiting for you.
Carvana Advertiser
Okay.
Jeremy
And me and Eric. Yes.
Johnny
And I'm. I'm wearing this T shirt and this guy comes up and he's like, video killed the radio star, man. And I'm like, I know. And he's like, oh. And he reads my shirt and it says Internet killed The rock stars.
Carvana Advertiser
Yeah.
Johnny
This is a mat, son, right?
Carvana Advertiser
Yeah.
Johnny
And he's like, oh, I read your shirt wrong, man. Oh, I love it. And then we were just bullshitting about the Internet.
Poet/Narrator
He.
Jeremy
He.
Johnny
A little bit of hate came out.
Michael Rapaport
Yeah.
Johnny
A little bit.
Jeremy
Why?
Johnny
And then it came back on him.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And he instantly then found a bond. And we were chatting, but you could sense it. You could sense even in this beautiful place we were in.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
This. A little bit of hate was trying to come out.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And he.
Jeremy
Which is weird to me.
Johnny
Very weird.
Jeremy
Like, why would you. Why you. It's after show. Good vibes everywhere. And this guy comes up with that and ended well. Which is good.
Johnny
It ended well because he was like, why?
Jeremy
Yeah, exactly, dude.
Johnny
Hey, I'm with him, man. I was with him the whole time. Like. Yeah, I know, dude. And then.
Jeremy
I know, dude. Yeah.
Johnny
Actually reads my T shirt. And then he's like, oh, damn. Yeah. And then we just chat it up. Yeah.
Jeremy
Oh, man.
Johnny
That's just how it is. You know?
Jeremy
It is how it is. I don't know. World's crazy.
Johnny
So something I've been asking everybody that's on the show now.
Akilah Hughes
Okay.
Johnny
Because famously, my shower song is the Thong Song by Cisco.
Jeremy
This is true.
Johnny
You know this.
Jeremy
Yes.
Johnny
And not because we're in the shower together or anything. Just because, you know. You know the bit.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah.
Johnny
Yeah. Okay.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
So I'm asking everybody.
Jeremy
Clearing that.
Johnny
Yeah. I just wanted to put. Clear the air. What the hell's going on there?
Jeremy
Yeah. Thanks. Wild.
Johnny
So what. What's your shower song? What's your go to in the shower? You're singing or you're listening to. Because I've gotten some pushback. I'm not singing. And I'm like, okay, but you turn on some jams.
Sam Jae
Like, what's.
Johnny
What's your go to?
Jeremy
You do? You got pushback? Well, I turn on no jams. Okay. Because I'm getting ready for work. Everybody's sleeping. Like, if I turn on jams, I'm waking up the people.
Johnny
Okay.
Jeremy
I try to be nice guy.
Johnny
What if you. It's been a sweaty day and you want to take a shower and, like, in the evening or something, then what?
Jeremy
Yeah, so there's like, a few.
Michael Rapaport
Okay.
Jeremy
New. Honestly, New girl Time machines is always there. It's just so easy. And then just a lot of it alternates between, like, no effects and Against Me for some reason. Just. They both have a lot of songs that are very singable. I just love it. The Decline's always a good one. It's like 15 minutes. So it's like you just can be singing for 15 minutes, but, yeah, I like it.
Johnny
You know every word?
Jeremy
Yeah, dude.
Johnny
Do you?
Jeremy
Yeah. Because I was learning how to play it, and if you learn how to play a song, you gotta listen to it a million times, and so I've heard that song an incredible amount of times, and. And I still love it. So that's it.
Johnny
Can you play it?
Jeremy
Yeah. On bass. I'm playing on bass. I play on drums. That's about. I can't play it on guitar.
Johnny
Okay.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
I. I think we have another episode, then we put together where you play the song.
Jeremy
Oh, geez.
Johnny
What do you think?
Jeremy
No one wants to hear me play that for 15 minutes.
Johnny
Let's record you playing bass. Let's record you playing drums. Let's get you playing the guitar and singing it.
Jeremy
Okay.
Johnny
Let's make the decline, and let's. We'll make a whole episode out of it.
Jeremy
All right, get ready, everybody. You gotta laugh with me, though. You can't laugh at me.
Johnny
That's the whole deal.
Jeremy
Okay.
Johnny
That's the whole deal.
Jeremy
Clarifying. I'm clarifying.
Johnny
What do you think we do here?
Jeremy
I'm cool. Clarifying.
Johnny
I make it very clear from the get that the show is laugh with me.
Jeremy
Okay.
Johnny
Not at me.
Michael Rapaport
Okay.
Johnny
We ain't got that bully shit going on.
Jeremy
Just saying. Just saying.
Johnny
We're love. It's all about love.
Jeremy
Just trying to keep it cool, you know?
Johnny
Yeah. Unless we're roasting.
Jeremy
Oh, yeah. Why has there not been, like, a roast edition? You've been doing this for a minute. We need to have a roast. I'd be all in. You tell me when that's happening. I'm in.
Johnny
You want to do a roast of. Of what? Me? Sure. You want to do the roast of J.
Jeremy
Well, okay. You got to have thick skin for that one episode.
Johnny
I can. I can have thick skin, except for when it bursts open lineups. All right.
Jeremy
Betty's return to comedy is this roast podcast.
Johnny
I'm still trying to get Betty back. He. He was giving crap the other day. I was like, man, I was at the casino and didn't. It's like the first time in a long time I didn't come out like a big winner. He's like, you got to keep playing, because he's just crushing it right now.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
And he's like, you got. You don't stop until you're a win. Until you win. And I'm like, I know. I get it. Like, I'm Just. And he's like, no, we don't quit. And I go like, you and comedy. So you're back. And he's like, oh, no, man. Okay.
Jeremy
He's got to come back for the roast episode. Okay.
Johnny
We can. So what this is with episode 159, 158. Somewhere in there.
Jeremy
Somewhere.
Johnny
So, well, let's line it up. Let's line it up for either 175 or 200, and we'll see.
Carvana Advertiser
We can do that.
Jeremy
Could be big.
Johnny
Could be. Maybe. Maybe this is the big YouTube launch.
Jeremy
Oh, season two, season two.
Johnny
It'll be season eight. But, yeah, let's. What if.
Jeremy
What if season two, YouTube.
Johnny
Season two, YouTube.
Jeremy
The people do. The people know? People got to go back and know.
Johnny
If they don't, the people demand it.
Jeremy
If you know, you know.
Johnny
Yeah.
Jeremy
Season two, YouTube.
Johnny
Subscribe to YouTube, guys. That's what it comes down to.
Jeremy
Got to.
Johnny
We just dipped under 500 subscribers on the YouTube. 5,000. Not 500. 5,000. Just under 5,000. We were one. We were over. Oh, so it's like, dude, I gotta start feeding the people. Yeah, you gotta feed the beast sometimes.
Michael Rapaport
Yeah.
Johnny
Otherwise they back out.
Jeremy
Yeah. Some people, they'd be kind of iffy. We'll get them back. We'll get him back. You know what? 5,000. Let's get to 10,000. 10,000. Let's go. Okay, we're gonna march to 10,000, folks.
Johnny
We're on the march to 10,000.
Jeremy
Yep.
Johnny
And then we'll do the roast.
Jeremy
Yep. Okay, everybody tell all your friends. We got to get this roast. You guys want to hear all the dirt? You want to get roast? You want to see Jeremy get roasted? Let's go, let's go, let's go. Time.
Johnny
Are you gonna write your own jokes?
Jeremy
Oh, my gosh. I'm gonna write all the jokes. It's gonna be great. You're gonna regret this. You're like, oh, I really am. Why don't I agree to that? It's gonna be fantastic.
Johnny
Already regretting it.
Michael Rapaport
Yeah.
Johnny
But it's going to be great.
Jeremy
It's going to be great.
Johnny
Yeah. Hey, when we go. When we take this show on tour.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Are you. Are you going to come be a guest on the Live.
Jeremy
On the live show from that shadow band? I guess you're. Long as I'm not shadow band.
Johnny
You're literally on the show.
Jeremy
Yeah, but you did this. I'm like the. I'm, like, currently, like, the Make a wish. Laugh with me, guys. It's like, you're like, I know I shadow banned you, but I see how I see the sadness in your eyes. And it just. Let's. Let's go one more, but that's it. And then you're shadow band again. I'm like, okay, I get that. So I'll take this as my final make a wish before I die. But yeah, if you're doing tour and you're like, hey, let's unshadow ban you again for one show, I'm back.
Johnny
I just popped in my head. You said make a wish. I'm like, how cool would it be if a kid their make a wish was to come on, laugh with me.
Jeremy
Oh, gee.
Johnny
And then I just roasted him the whole time.
Jeremy
That would actually be amazing.
Johnny
That'd be awesome.
Jeremy
I think that'd be awesome.
Johnny
Oh, that would be fun.
Jeremy
I think that would be fantastic. That would be a good thing.
Johnny
That would be great episode.
Jeremy
I like it. That would be what that kid wants anyway. So it'd be all good.
Johnny
Yeah, that's exactly what he would want.
Jeremy
Yeah.
Johnny
Correct any. He would want to tell me a shower song.
Jeremy
He would. Yeah. He'd have it ready to go.
Johnny
You have some legal issues with me asking children what those shower songs are?
Jeremy
Oh, man.
Johnny
No, right? I mean, there's nothing nefarious about it.
Michael Rapaport
I'm just.
Johnny
We're talking music.
Jeremy
It's like, hey, man, when you're getting cleaned up for the day, what you singing about? Yeah, okay. You know, so I just have to like. Yeah, rephrase a little.
Johnny
Rephrase. Yeah.
Jeremy
Okay. You gotta rephrase it.
Johnny
That's good stuff. Thanks for coming on. Thanks for having me and Shadow Band recommence.
Jeremy
Yeah, yeah. Ok. Get back in the darkness and continue living my life. All right, well, it's been a good time.
Johnny
We'll see you at the roast.
Poet/Narrator
Hit that intro. Go. Laugh with me when the ranch passed you in the car Start laugh with me when the only sponsor is my broken heart we're hanging on this janky stream Two weird voices in the glow of a screen if the world won't sing then let it laugh with me.
Host: Jeremy Odem
Episode Date: July 13, 2026
Guest: Kyle Odem (“shadow-banned” brother, frequent guest)
Main Theme: Discussing joke premises, failed retirement plans, wild concert adventures, stage diving, and the joys of punk/skate culture.
This episode finds Jeremy Odem joined by his brother Kyle for a banter-rich, nostalgic, and self-deprecating discussion about life, retirement dreams, the realities of aging punks at concerts, and the enduring power of community—whether that’s in a mosh pit, a skate park, or the podcast world. With a mix of personal stories, business ideas gone awry, and memorable concert fiascos, listeners get a laugh-filled exploration of what happens when the dreamers grow up and still love a good pit.
At [05:06], the duo debate the origins of a business idea Jeremy claims to have originated: movie theaters should force patrons past merch and media stands as they exit—“like the souvenir shop at an aquarium.” Johnny admits to forgetting the source and broadcasting the idea elsewhere.
Jeremy’s other “retirement plans” are unrolled and debated, chief among them:
The practicalities and comic delusions of each scheme get examined.
At [21:12–24:31], Johnny recounts his first-ever stage dive, his failed attempts at crowd surfing, and the toll it took on his now older frame.
Reflections on getting hurt at shows, the nature of punk community, and how “old guys in the pit” are often battered but unbowed.
Story of an earlier session where Johnny wipes out on a skateboard (a video that went viral), with Jeremy’s daughter Hattie laughing her head off ([35:08–38:34]).
The broader moral? Skate and punk communities are inherently supportive—contrasting this with internet culture’s tendency to merely point, laugh, and troll ([38:44]).
An encounter outside the show with a fellow punk who nearly let his snark take over, then bonded with Johnny over shared internet gripes ([39:31]).
Reflections that even punk scenes aren’t fully immune to cynicism, but the vibe at their show was overwhelmingly positive.
On Stage Diving:
“I’ve never done that. That was my first time. … I didn’t surf as much as I cannonballed, I guess.” —Johnny ([21:12], [29:31])
On Getting Hurt at Punk Shows:
“You got hurt. That was not great. But you got hurt. Hattie just had the time of her life watching you get hurt.” —Jeremy ([19:55])
On Punk Pit Etiquette:
"You get in, you get into the Pit, and you're a family. Instantly. ... If you fall, you pick them back up, and that's immediately what they did." —Johnny ([22:13])
On Retirement Dreams Gone Awry:
"You can't own a lake. Or can you?... Oh, gosh, that sounds expensive." —Jeremy ([12:39])
On Punk Community vs. Internet Culture:
“Why can't we just be like, hey man, nice job, keep going. Like, just build everybody up… It’s weird to want to hate on folks all the time.” —Jeremy ([39:09])
On ‘Laugh With Me’ Podcast Purpose:
“I make it very clear from the get that the show is laugh with me… Not at me. We ain't got that bully shit going on.” —Johnny ([43:01])

The episode is candid, playful, self-deprecating, full of brotherly ribbing and “back in my day” punk nostalgia. The language is peppered with casual expletives, affectionately sardonic humor, and a deep love for the music and scenes that shaped them. Personal failures and physical mishaps are embraced as a badge of community, not shame—a clear-through line for both the live shows they adore and the podcast they create.
If you want a passionate yet irreverent take on aging punks, failed business dreams, the code of the mosh pit, and the power of shared laughter—this episode delivers. The stories are relatable, genuine, and invite listeners to “laugh with” the hosts, not at them.
