one of them old timers now. I guess I am the unc. And now. You know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Hey, there's, there's, there's some respect to that. There's not no shame in being unk.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
No, I don't mind it, man. You know, I'm recently just became a grandfather, man. Actually, my grandbaby is gonna be one next month, so congrats. As a matter of fact, I don't know if you can see me on the thing, but I let my beard.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I, I've been trying to hide it for years because I like, you know, I'm still trying to look young, but I'm 54, man. I got a grandbaby. I like it. Let it grow.
Jeremy Otterman
So are you going to die? Are you gonna keep it that way?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know what? I'm gonna keep it this way. I died. I tried dyeing my beard once. I got a brother. He's. He does a. Well, actually, both my brothers do hair, but I let my brother dye my beard one time, man. And when that started changing, it went from. It went from black to like a greenish color, man. So I was like, you know what? I ain't dining no more. I'm just gonna have to, hey, I'm cool with it. You know what I'm saying? And then you know what? I found out? The ladies like the, they like the gray beard. So I like, my wife like it. So I guess that's cool.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah, no, I saw this summer so far, LeBron, he's grown out his beard and it looks just like yours. And I'm hoping he keeps it for next season. And we get like one final run with him and he's got the gray beard.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
So you really think he gonna play another season though?
Jeremy Otterman
100%. He's gotta play another season.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I'm gonna put it to you like this. I love. I've always been, you know, since LeBron came in, you know, I've always been a LeBron fan despite say about him, you know, to go to base and all that. I just think he's a great basketball player altogether, like 100%. You know, when you think of, when you think of the ultimate basketball player, of course everybody gonna think of Jordan. And Jordan was that man, you know what I'm saying? But when I think of a complete. When I say complete basketball player, man, LeBron hands down. And then to do it at the age that he is and he's better than half the league, these little young dudes and he's still killing it. Like, damn, man, that dude's a freaking nature, bro.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah, he's built different for sure because he at his age to be able to play at the level he does now he doesn't. He's not on the court as often as he was before. But when he is on the court, I mean, he's on the floor, man. He is definitely, you know, one of the top two or three out there. So it's pretty.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
42. He's 42, yeah.
Jeremy Otterman
42. Yeah. Yep.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Man, you know what? When I now, like I said, I'm 54 now, so I know what it was like to be at 40 something to do what he doing at that age still. That is a freaking major because when I was at 42, man, I was trying to make sure I didn't on myself, you know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah, I can relate. I. I just turned 43 and I fell off a skateboard last week and I. I feel like I broke my back, man.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Cause we don't have that healing fact, you know, when you was young, man, you used to get hurt yourself. And he'll like Wolverine now. That should stick with you for the rest of your life, man.
Lele Pons
I'm.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I'm still going to physical therapy for some. That happened 27 years ago.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh yeah, you've got this new show coming up at Dreamland Lounge. July 22, 7pm New show, new venue. I mean, how'd this come about?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Oh, man, I'm gonna tell you like this. First of all, Jeremy, I want to say that I've been very blessed, man, for this last, I'm gonna say, 25 years, just. Just being relevant, you know, I'm just now moving around like, you know, like a real comedian should. But just the fact that people know who I am and I'm still staying relevant, and when I do put on the show, they like, hey, bro, you one of the funniest dudes I know. That's how I get a lot of my shows, is just because people have heard me once before or, you know, my name get dropped. And I was fortunate that, you know what I'm saying? And this would be my fourth venue. I believe that I'm pioneering comedy at an establishment. So my reputation, I guess, is perceiving me. You know, I am that guy when it comes to putting on comedy shows on these new venues. And I love being the first of anything, especially when it comes to comedy, especially because I take it so seriously. You know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I don't know if you know the story of how I became a comedian, but I actually got stabbed into this. You know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
You stabbed in the comedy?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I got stabbed. My ex girlfriend stabbed me, man, about 27 years ago in the line. And I just remember they were taking me to the hospital. And they were taken to a hospital that has a very bad reputation. St. Joe, I'm pretty sure you heard of it. They actually, the nickname was called Killer Joe. And I found out they were taking me Joe, man. And I'm in the back of the ambulance. And mind you, I'm stabbed in the line. I'm trying to jump out that I, like, y' all taking me to weird. Oh, I'm about to for sure die. Like, if this stab don't kill me, the staff will.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
So I remember when I got wheeled in, and I just asked the doctor, come closer. And I said, hey, doc. And I don't know why I said this stupid shit, but it stuck with me. And this is who I am. And this is how I became. I asked the doctor, I said, she stuck it to me. Huh? He just looked at me like, what did you say? And I said, that bitch got a point across, didn't she? He just looked at me. He was like, man, are you all right? And I was like, hell, no, I ain't all right. I just remember going up to my room and I'm sounding like Darth Vader, man. I'm like, yeah, on the oxygen machine. I'm calling off hits with my uncles, like, don't kill her. And then I just remember, I said, God, if you let me live, I want to be a comedian. And he let me live. And I've been doing it ever since. Jeremy. I have not stopped. Every year I try to do something comedy related for the last 25 years or so, you know, just trying to stay relevant. It took me some years to learn how to move around, you know what I'm saying? As far as the comedy thing, like, I do shows, people book me and stuff. But I will say this, and I'm gonna mention his name. He was just on your show. A lot of my bookings has been a lot of big help to Lavetti Vegas.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know what I'm saying? And I watched his podcast with you last week, and I talked to him about, oh, and yes, we know he's quitting again.
Laugh With Me Intro Narrator
Yeah,
Jeremy Otterman
I feel like I. I was telling my wife, I'm like, you know, I got. I've got Lavetti coming on. He's got an announcement he's quitting comedy. And she goes again. And I go, yeah, he does this. He does this about once a year. Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know, and I love him, man. Like, that dude. Like, we. Like when we first met, we. We were not cool, you know, I'm saying it was. It was not a cool ordeal. Third party had kind of got some. Kind of got some shit stirred. And when we finally did meet up, man, we finally sat down and talked like some real men, and we found out we had a lot in common. And, man, for the last. I want to say, for the last five years, man, we've been really rocking, you know what I'm saying? Like, we've been going to. Doing shows whenever he get. Because Betty's good about getting booked. Like, that's actually. He does everything the right way. Like, I've been doing it way longer than a lot of these comments here, but learning how to do stuff the right way and the correct way, I learned. I learned a lot from that dude. You know, I might be the older statesman and did this a lot, but I give a lot of my props to him, you know, because he took it. You know, out of all the comments I've dealt with, he takes everything very seriously, and he does everything the right way. And I appreciate him, man, because whenever he get booked today, you're looking for somebody he like, hey, can I bring George Zilla, man? And, man, we go to these different towns, and, man, I kick it up and do what I do. And, oh, man, I had so much fun Man, I love doing this, Jeremy. I love doing this, man. Comedy is my life.
Jeremy Otterman
What's the. What's the chemistry like when you guys are on the road together? I mean, are you guys. Is it. Is it jokes?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Is it.
Jeremy Otterman
Is it life conversations? Are you guys working material? I mean, what's that like?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I'm gonna tell you, man, it's really. It's really like we have some of the best conversations, man. Like, you know, it's two dudes on the road that had the same love and the same compassion towards his business. And when we on the road, it's. It's like. It's. It's. I mean, we have fun, but it's mainly strictly business, man. Like, we talk mainly comedy, you know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Yep.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
And which is very cool, because a lot of my peers around here, and not. Not to discredit any of my peers or comedy peers around here, but no one in my book approaches the game a comedy like Lavell do.
Jeremy Otterman
Right.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know what I'm saying? And he was the type of person I felt that was good for me. Like I said, I've been in this game for a long time, but to try to find somebody that share the same compassion that you do, some people does, you know, some people do comedy, you know, for fun or cloud or whatever, but me and him actually share the same compassion. We actually love doing comedy. We love making people laugh. You know what I'm saying? We love. I'm with it. The skits, the merch, everything that comes with it, man. You know, like I said, I've been doing this before he even came along, but I felt like that he helped compliment me, you know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Yep.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
And, you know, every time I hear you say, you about to leave, man, they do. I ain't gonna lie. It makes me sad because that's my guy. Like, that's the dude that I love going up and down the road with more than anybody. And I got some other comments I love working with, but he, to me, is like the ultimate. He's like the ultimate comic, man. You know what I'm saying, as far as, like, doing things right. You know what I'm saying? And over the last. Man, over this past year, man, he's gotten funnier, man. Like, when he first came out, he was all right to me. You know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Now I became a fan. Like, I'll be sitting around like, man, like, dude, kill it. Like, it's something like when you go to, you know, like, when we go to venues together and all that, man, I really get a joy of sitting there watching them cook on stage.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah, that's the best part.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah, it is. You know, and not to be cocky or arrogant about myself, but I always tell people I ain't conceited. I'm convinced I know what I'm gonna do. Jeremy. Yeah, I've been doing this for, I've been doing this for so long that I do shows in my sleep. Like, literally. I've done the show with Bernie Mac in one of my dreams before, man. It's crazy. Like, and I thought it was real. I woke up like, damn, where's Bernie? I'm like, oh, damn, this was a dream. But I really, I take this so seriously, man, that I, I really own up to my craft. Like, when I get on that stage, I'm all business, but I'm all about having fun. Like, I relax. Like, I tell all these young comics up and coming, Ready everybody. I mean, I mean, I've told him down through the years, bro, just relax. Don't overthink the stage, man. Get up there and have fun. Like, these are your jokes. This is what you written, this is yours. If you stumble on a word or don't go verbatim, who cares? It's your jokes, it's your, it's your material. So I tell people, man, when you get up on stage, own that, man. Have fun with it, man. Like when I get up on stage, I'm like a 54 year old kid on the playground. I had so much fun, man. And I got back into doing prop comedy. When I first started off, I would just do like little props. And so I didn't got back from doing, doing little prop comedies in my like Carrot Top. Yeah. But yeah, kind of.
Jeremy Otterman
I would love to see you do some Carrot Top style comedy.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I got, I got, just got a little few things, man. You know, I break out with, you know, like right now I think my little hair bonnet joke is really going over really good. People starting to know me for my hair bonnet and, and then, you know, I just, I just break out with just little things, nothing much. I'm not really care topish, but I do have care top like material on certain, certain jokes. I do. You know, I'm saying I like to be very visual, you know, when I'm doing my comedy.
Jeremy Otterman
So as you're gearing up for the July 22nd at the Dreamland Lounge, I mean people who have seen you before, do they go to Dreamland Lounge and are they expecting you know, the, the zilla of old or they. Are we going to see new? Are you working on something new for the show? Like what's. I guess, what can people expect?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Well, for one, I tell anybody if you went to Christian Mingle, shit, do not come to my show. It is not that show. I am very edgy. I'm always on the edge, man. I'm edgy. I don't have no filter. Filters belong coffee pots and vacuum cleaners. So I ain't either one of them expected. Just expect the man to. Just to hear some outlandish, you know what I'm saying? A lot of my material, I talk mainly about myself.
Jeremy Otterman
Yep.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know what I'm saying? And I try to encourage comedians, younger comedians to write more towards themselves or kind of make your comedy more personal that way because you got a lot of Joe Steelers out here, man. I had people steal my jokes and you know what I'm saying? But I feel like if my jokes is catered more personally towards me, I feel like, how can you steal my. Because it's about me.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
So I try to joke more about, More about, more about. I go through and then I'm kind of like a, I'm like a psa, you know what I'm saying? I'm always, I'm always trying to teach and, and, and, and teach somebody or you know, give out information, you know what I'm saying? I'm like a big ass information booth, you know. So I'm always giving out advice and in a funny way.
Jeremy Otterman
You know, there's a merch idea. Zillow, psa. Put on a T shirt. Put on one of your lines.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Hey, lavender got me back. It got me back. Going to do merch again because I was doing merch some years back and then I moved and I had everything put up in storage and I finally got most of my stuff out. But he's got me ready to merch up now. So any ideas I come up with, it's going on a T shirt. You best believe that.
Jeremy Otterman
Very nice. I saw. Maybe this is something that is going to be brought up on July 22. Maybe not. But I saw a post recently. Were you working on some natural remedies or you were taking some natural remedies? One was. What is it like the goat?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Horny goat.
Jeremy Otterman
Horny goat. What. What are you doing with all those? You were taking like four or five or six of these natural remedies. What are you doing with all this? Horny goat.
Podcast Host
Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Trying to get some horny ghosts to get down. You know what I'm saying? One horny goat running to another horny goat. We gonna get it on. Actually, man, I was. Me and my brother, man, when I got. I got two brothers, but me and. Me and my middle brother, we had been kind of beefing for a couple years, and we finally started back talking like, about a month ago. And I just happened to. Went over to his house a couple weeks ago, and he was noticing I was getting, like, a little puffiness in my legs. He's like, hey, man, would you try this stuff? You know what I'm saying? So, man, let me see. Give him about four pill bottles. Let me see. I got horny goat weed. I got some called Shiloh jit. Shiloh Jit. I don't know. I got some sea moss, and I got some called Scram. And, you know, I. I appreciate my brother, man, because he. He wants to see me healthier.
Laugh With Me Intro Narrator
Good.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
And I want to be healthy. I want to be around here for a long term. Like I said, I got a new grandbaby and everything, you know, And I mean, I'm not old, but I'm not young either. But, you know, I'm trying to do whatever it is to, you know, keep me around longer. I recently just got. Just got done doing some physical therapy on knees and shoulders and shit, man, and trying to get rid of this pain I was having after I got stabbed, the pain was coming back on me real tough. Hearing me feel like. Oh, man. Feel like she was stabbed me all over again.
Jeremy Otterman
Really?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah. So I went to the doctor, man. And so I've been getting help and just trying to get myself back, right, man.
Kal Penn
Hey, everyone, it's Kal Penn, host of Earsay, the Audible, and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I'm sitting down with Diverg author Veronica Roth to talk about her sprawling new novel, Seek the Traitor's Son. It's a sci fi fantasy epic about two protagonists on opposite sides of a war and a prophecy neither of them wanted.
Podcast Host
My first book was Divergent, and when that came out, like, because it was so popular, I think it attracted, like, mostly positivity, but the negativity I sucked in like a sponge. And I think it was, like, critiques of things I liked when I was like, you know, I was 23 and I wrote this book and it had all my, like, dorky little cheesy or maybe unrealistic loves in it. And I started to feel a lot of shame about those things. And so for the rest of my career, I steered away from those little things that like, make you feel pleasure when you read. But I also was like saying no to these parts of myself that I then was like, screw it. Yeah, so that's this book.

George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I did a show a while back. I was last. I guess it'll be almost a year now. I was doing a show. I was pioneering another show at this place called Tequila Bar. I'm sorry.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah. Was it Garage?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah, Tequila Garage. And the very first show I did there, man. Oh, my God, Right before I got on stage, boom, that chest pain hit me. Oh, my God. I don't know how I got through that show. That's like one of the worst feelings ever, man. Just feeling like somebody stabbing you constantly, man. Just the pain. But I got through that, man. And like I said, I've been just going to doctors and stuff and make sure I'm good, though, man. So I've been. I've been feeling pretty good as of late, you know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
What's the doctor say about that? Is it muscle memory of. Of why that would suddenly start to hurt, the stabbing, or why would that continue to bother you now?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
So a lot of nerve damage, but what happened was when I went in to go see the doctor about the test, he found out I had a rip in my shoulder. So I had a torn rotary cup. And that pain, my rotary cup, was actually feeding off or feeding the other pain, and everything just woke up.
Jeremy Otterman
Okay.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
So, yeah, one pain woke up the other pain. I was like, y' all just need to go to sleep.
Jeremy Otterman
Go to sleep.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Leave me the hell alone. Like this hurts, but. Yeah.
Jeremy Otterman
So that's why you have those scram pills. Now tell that. Tell that pain to scram.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
That scram, man. Get all that parasites. Whatever is in my body. But I ain't a lot, man. Since I've been taking this, man, I've been feeling pretty good. I've been feeling good as of late, you know what I'm saying? I guess I had to ask my wife about the horny goat weed, though. You know what I'm saying?
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah. Nice. Well, you brought up. You brought up family. I know you guys just had a big graduation in the family here recently. Was it your son?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yes, my oldest son.
Jeremy Otterman
Man, you guys did these matching shirts for the graduation I thought was so cool. Just kind of talk about that. I mean, the bond I'm sure you guys all had that day. It had to be special.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
It was, man. So first of all, shout out to the Betty, man, for getting our shirts out pressing, and got us to Us in the. In the timely fashion. My son actually came up with with the design. He go by G3 at George III. And so. So we did a G3 and the crown and everything, you know, show some royalty. And I seen the design. I said, you know what? I said, son, I'm gonna take that and put on the shirt. I said, I want us all to look uniform at your graduation. And so got all, you know, the family shirts made. And like I said, Lavetti threw it down. And, man, we showed up at graduation and we looked it real smooth, you know what I'm saying? And it was. It was a real happy day, man. Like, I'm. I was very proud. That's my. I got five kids all together, so I got a daughter already graduating on my oldest son, and next year, my youngest daughter will be graduating, and then I got two more sons behind that, so a lot of more graduations ago, man.
Jeremy Otterman
So that was the first one then, huh?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Actually, you'd be the second or he
Jeremy Otterman
was the second one. Okay.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah, My daughter. Actually, my daughter, she didn't have two grandmas, so she graduated from high school, and then she graduated from college as a phlebotomist.
Jeremy Otterman
Very nice, man.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
She tried to stick me the other day. I wouldn't let her do it. I'm like, who bring. They work on like, hey, dad, can I just try to. I was like,
Jeremy Otterman
I'll tell you what. They need to practice because. And I'll tell you why. I. I just went ahead and IV put in to get some blood. Eight times it. They poked me before they finally got it. They had to call an ER doctor. It was a whole thing.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
It didn't hurt before, but 8. Jesus Christ. I like, look, just give me a knife and let me slip my throat. You don't need some blood that bad. God damn.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah, I had a hospital visit one time. They. They couldn't find a vein. It was so many pokes. They had to use an ultrasound machine in bicep in order to find the vein.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Oh, you got the rolling veins. Yeah, I got. I get those too now. My daughter, though, she's good. I just didn't want to poke me that day, though.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah.
Kal Penn
I don't believe it.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah, like, you know, I ain't got to get poked just because, you know, just off, you know, and she is good at what she do. I will say that. Like, she was the top of her class, and she never had no problem with pokes. And even at her job, she poop. Poop. That's all she do is poke people, but I just didn't feel like her doing me that day because I'm like, you know, who the hell want to get folk with a needle on, you know, if you don't have to.
Jeremy Otterman
Yo, have you ever gotten hydration that way where they put in the IV and. And just pump the water into you to get fully hydrated? I've never done it, but I've. I've seen people do it.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I don't think I have, but I've been on enough IVs, man, that for other reasons. So, yeah, I didn't. I didn't have. I think I had a mild heart attack before a stroke. I can't remember what the hell it was. But, yeah, I've been. I've been seeing plenty of doctors and IVs.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah. Well, we talked before. You've been on the show before. I know. At that time, you were.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Betty, I was on here before.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
It was me, him, and Terence. Am I correct?
Jeremy Otterman
No. This time it was just you and I, because I haven't had Terrence on. You. I want to have Terence on. I haven't had Terrence on yet. We were. We were going to do all three at one point. Lavetti had brought it up, and we ended up just doing Vetti, and then. Then I had you on. So I do need to have Terence on still.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah. I love Terrence, man.
Jeremy Otterman
Yo, he's funny. Oh, my God.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I don't get to see enough of him. You know, it's crazy. Like, we all stay in the same city and town and stuff, but I don't get to see much of them guys unless we really doing something. And. But Terence, that guy. I'm gonna say this about Terrence, man. He was. When we was doing. And I know you want to be part of three comic mafia.
Jeremy Otterman
I'm at 2.0. I 2.0 comedy mafia 2.0.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
So what we were doing, and I was. I was watching. I was laughing when I seen that. Matter of fact, I just found one of my old shirts. Commie Mafia shirt, huh?
Jeremy Otterman
So I need your vote. I need your vote, man.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Man, you in there? Hey, if it was up to me.
Lele Pons
You in there.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Cause I like you, Jeremy, you in there. Terrence always was the voice of reason. Like, whenever me and Lavetta used to bump heads, and we bumped heads a lot.
Kal Penn
Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know, saying. But Terence was. He was always that dude that was always in the middle, man. And I just love him, and he's. I call him the Equalizer.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah, I love it. And that makes sense with his kind of personality, that he would be the voice of reason, but it's such an entertainer. I love what he's doing with the DJing in the. And with comedy. No, he's doing great. Well, when you were on last time and you were doing some different projects or you had done some different projects, do you have anything that you're working on now or is it strictly focused on the comedy currently?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Well, I've always. I've always tried to keep my head in something, man. I mainly focus on the stage stuff, but I do have some projects that potentially supposed to be coming up. I. I really don't speak on a lot of stuff until after.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Come to premonition because sure, I get called. I get called a lot. Hey, man, I want you to do this. I want you to be this and that. So I usually just wait patiently and see what's gonna pop up. And I always stay ready, man. Like, one thing about me and this comedy thing, I can go at him. I can go on the drop of a dime. You know what I'm saying? I'm always ready, you know, But I want to do some skits. I know I supposed to be. I got a friend named Ladies Andrews. She's got a project that she's supposed to be doing and she wanted to be a part of. And I'm just gonna wait and see what happens, man. You know, like I said, I'm always waiting, ready, and, you know, whenever somebody wants some real comedy, when you want to laugh your ass off and have some real fun and some real jokes and somebody really gonna make you laugh, I'm that man.
Jeremy Otterman
We're talking belly laughs. We're talking belly laughs like people enjoy. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's a good time. And you.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, no. I was just gonna plug your Facebook because you're. You're a fun follow. The George Zilla Brookins Jr. Is where find you. Like, you're. You're. You're a fun follow. On top of, you know, your. Your comedy just following on Facebook is entertaining. So I would say you're a fun.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Down a lot. You hear me? I calmed down a whole lot.
Jeremy Otterman
You have, but you're still fun.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I was getting banned, man. I was getting banned in Facebook jail so much, man. Like, I don't. They told me if I go to Facebook jail one more time, they're gonna give me the chair.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, man. Is that why you're not doing as many lives now?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
No, I have. Yeah. You notice? Yeah, I kind of died down from doing the lives. And you know what? I miss doing that, though. But, yeah, I kind of calmed down just a little bit because, I don't know, man. And I try to watch what I say. Right. You know, But I get on every is. Oh, God damn. Jeremy. Has been a minute since I did a live.
Jeremy Otterman
It is.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Oh, yeah. Well, you know what? I'm gonna try to. I'll probably do a promotional live for this upcoming show on the 22nd, because it's not very often I do shows in Omaha anymore. I try to get on the road as much as I can, when I can. It's just. I don't know. It's just something about being on the road and being in another town. You get a lot more love and notoriety when you out there than you do at home.
Kal Penn
Yep.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You know what I'm saying? And I kind of hate that because, you know, you want to show out for your hometown, you know, all the time, but the love ain't like it used to be, man. That's all I'm gonna say.
Jeremy Otterman
I found that home is where the haters lie.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You said that, right. You said that, right. Y' all couldn't have said that even better, man. That's. Yeah, that's. That's true. And. And, you know, and it's sad like that, you know, the thing of it is, though, I will say this, though. Every time I leave the house or I go somewhere, somebody recognize me. Silly, man. I see you out there doing your thing, and they always watch. That's one thing about Facebook and Instagram and all that. They always see what you're doing now to get them in the seats and come to the action venue. That's a different story, though, But. But I will say that I do love the fact that people recognize me and see what I'm doing and show me love when I'm out here. And it. Do it feel good. Like, I'll be out with my kids, like, dad, we can't go nowhere. Somebody always know you, you know? And I like, yeah, and I love it.
Jeremy Otterman
I ain't gonna love it.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I eat that shit up. Like, yes, somebody know who I am, you know?
Jeremy Otterman
Well, you can find George Zilla at The Dreamland Lounge, July 22, 7pm that's promised to be. I mean, just a fantastic night in J. July. I mean, it's gonna be Billy. Laughs galore. I. I've been asking everybody, and you be honest with me, okay? Because I. I famously, my shower song is the thong song. By Cisco. What? What's your go to in the shower? I mean, are you a singer?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I'm not. I do not sing, man. If I'm not jacking off in that, I'm just gonna hear that like, Z is so nasty. I do not have a song, man.
Jeremy Otterman
Okay?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I don't. You know, it's crazy because I will only play music when I drive.
Jeremy Otterman
Really? Nothing at the house, huh?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
No, no, not really. My, my. You know, so growing up, my brothers and sisters, I got two brothers and a sister. I'm the oldest and we all very talented. Like, both my brothers, I actually. Both my brothers. Both my brothers and sisters, they all play instruments. One brother played the drums. Actually, I got a brother, he played the drums and the guitar. Mother plays the keyboard, the drums, and I think he could play the guitar as well. And my sister played violin. And then my sister and my youngest brother, they can sing as well. I didn't get that talent. I was oldest. I was more like. I tried. I tried to play the drums when I was younger and I used to play the violin in the fourth grade. But my stature, my size was built for sports. I'm six four, 300 pound, dude, man. I was a big. And as a kid, I was a big ass dude, you know what I'm saying? So a big. With a violin in his hand didn't look too cool, you feel me? So I took up basketball, football, and wrestled, you know what I'm saying? Those were the sports I played. And you know, I was more physical. But like I said, I didn't find out about the comedy shit until after I got stabbed. But before I got stabbed, I did host a. A car show and I found out I was good at hosting. So hosting was like. I did wholesome before I did comedy.
Jeremy Otterman
You know, there's a gift. There's like, there's a talent to. And a gift to being able to hold a mic in your hand and command a room, no matter if it's hosting a car show or, or stand up or, or music. But to be able to do that, I mean, that's. There's some talent to that and value to it. So, you know, kudos to you.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I feel like he, man, you know, when he man grabbed his sword and said, I got the power, that's how I feel when I grab that microphone, man. I swear to God, man, that. That microphone. So I'm regular George Brookings, okay? But when I grab that microphone, I am Zilla the Monster comedy. Matter of fact, I. I don't even. People don't even call me George no more, man. When I go, you can't help but call me Zilla. Because either I got.
Jeremy Otterman
I got the chain on you. Yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Or some shirt I got on got my name on the back of it. Because I'm always. I'm just a walking billboard. I let it. You gonna know. You're gonna wonder why. Why you call yourself. I'm gonna let you know who I am. Whether you want to know or not, I'm gonna let you know. I love doing what I do, man. I do, man. It's nothing like bringing joy to people's lives, man. You know, making people laugh and, you know, feel good, man. And especially the way I came up, man. My life was man from man. I was born dead. My real man had to bring me back to life. I got shot when I was five in the hand. I shot myself in the hand when I was five. Busted my eardrum when I was fine. It just. I just had all pulled my arm out. Five was not a very good year for me, man. Like, I had. Like, that would kill a normal person, but then to turn around and find comedy, even after getting stabbed. Like, people like, man, how do you find comedy? I'm getting stabbed. I like. I just don't know. But I did. It's just something that I don't know, man. God. God gave me this gift, man. And I just try to make sure I use it, you know, as much as I can. And I feel like if I wasn't doing comedy, I feel like I would die, man.
Jeremy Otterman
You had the ultimate. When you were raising your kids, you had the ultimate on them. If they fell and scraped their knee or something, be like, man, I shot myself at 5, and I'm okay. Like, get up. Walk it off. Like, you had the ultimate, right?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
You like, you sissies. I get shot in the face.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, that's fantastic. All right, George, what else you got to promote? We got it. We. I know we've got the show at Dreamland Lounge, July 22, 7pm get your tickets. What? Well, she got to promote. I know you got something.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Well, right now, like I said, I'm getting ready to work on. Trying to work on my merch, you know, get my merch done. Lavelli was. Helped me out with my merch, and matter of fact, I got to get a hold soon because he still got two of my logos. I need to get my. Put on my shirts, though. But just trying to get my merch out and just waiting to get booked. Actually, I got some. I mean, I got. I got some future shows already lined up, all the way in August already. Beautiful. But, you know, I'm just. Just waiting to see what comes, Jeremy. You know what I'm saying? I just. I don't know, man. Just. I'm just like one of my old mercenary gunslingers or something, you know? Comic for hire.
Jeremy Otterman
Comic for hire. There we go.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah, I stay. Shoot, bro.
Jeremy Otterman
Fight him at George Zillow. Brookins Jr. You can find him. Facebook's probably home base, right?
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yes, sir.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah. Awesome. Demonstrate.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Those old dudes gotta do Facebook. And.
Jeremy Otterman
Yeah, it is perfect for finding an older audience, though. It's perfect for finding that.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Yeah, it is. Because I'm the worst. I'm telling you, man, when it comes to technology, I am the worst, bro. That's why. I ain't gonna lie. That's why I need a person like Lavertti and other people, man, to help me with this technology, man. I'm still trying to learn this stuff. The comedy part, that's. That's the easiest thing, getting on stage. I don't care how many people's in the crowd. I don't care what the audience look like. Black, white, green, purple, I don't care. I'm gonna give you my. I'm gonna give you straight hell for however long I'm up there, whether it be 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30. I don't win hours, you know what I'm saying? So it doesn't matter. I'm always ready to go. So it's. It's whatever with me. Just bring it.
Jeremy Otterman
Just bring.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I'll be there. Yeah, just all you gotta do say, zilla, I need you to come do this show. Give me the time to date, and I'll try to be there if it's feasible. All right?
Jeremy Otterman
When we. When we finally do Laugh With Me Live, I'm gonna be calling you.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Please do. I would have came to the studio, man. I know you would. You know, I said, man, I ain't gonna lie, man. I watched you and the Betty, man, and I was telling Betty. I said, man, I want some of that action with Jeremy, too. Y' all just having too much fun without me. Like, bring me on, man.
Jeremy Otterman
Let's go. Yeah. All right. I will have you back on, and we'll bring you in studio. But I'm serious, I'm gonna call you when we get. When we get Laugh With Me Live going.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Absolutely, man. Hey, I'm here, bro. And whenever I'm here.
Jeremy Otterman
Awesome. All right, well, thank you. Thank you, sir. And we will. We're definitely gonna have you back on because we're gonna have you in studio.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
Hey, Jeremy, thank you for having me, man. I always have a blast with you, man. You keep doing what you're doing, man. I appreciate what you're doing. And let me know when you ready to get back on stage, you know what I'm saying? So I can put you on one of my shows.
Jeremy Otterman
Oh, yeah, I will. Because I'm gearing up. I. I will let you know. I appreciate that.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
I can see it in your face. You ready?
Jeremy Otterman
I'm getting ready. Oh, yeah.
George Zilla Brookins Jr.
That's what I'm talking about.
Jeremy Otterman
All right. Thanks, man.
