B
Thank you very much. I'm very happy to be here. Tamara, it's a great honor to be podcasting with you today. Thank you for having me.
A
Awesome. And thank you for being on Lead with AI. We hit number one in tech on Apple podcasts, which we're very proud of.
B
Congratulations.
A
Thank you. We couldn't do it without great guests like you, so I am grateful.
B
Thank you.
A
Awesome. So let's get started. So I always like to really understand the founder. So tell us a little bit about yourself, Femi. What is your core and how did you come up with the idea of statusynth where you knew that this was a product that the world needed?
B
It's a great question. So I've always been obsessed with data. You know, I had a very eclectic background in finance, in tech, being a developer, you know, so I've, you know, been around and, you know, one of the key things that I started seeing was the absence of data in the ecosystems that, you know, I had either previously developed for and the likes, you know. So, you know, we cited this as a hobby interestingly many years ago. Yep. We started training our data. You know, we looked at different segments of the ecosystems where people need to have simplified data. So we started out throwing, for example, government, simplifying government data for the average individual, macroeconomic data, you know, and then suddenly it Became very, very big. We've come to be the most followed platform on conversation, social media today in not only Nigeria, across Africa. Yeah. Because we simplify very complex data. So, you know, the interest has always been how do I make data simple enough that the average man on the street will be able to understand it? You know, and that's how it all started. Right. And then it evolved ever since then. So from having a background in tech and every other area in finance and likes to looking at bringing this simply to the average Nigerian and obviously the average African, that's always, that was the big moment for us to say, you know what, let's take this even a lot further.
A
And did you say that you actually started with banks? Like, so you were helping banks.
B
So you know, we as an individual, myself personally.
A
Got it, got it, got it. Yeah. Because you did say it started as a hobby and now it's flourish into this huge company.
B
You're right. So, you know, incidentally, you know, so we started out just okay, what data is out there? How can we simplify it? Right. So now it's, it's flourished into, we're still very established, but we have a lot of traction in terms of the number of people who listen to us or read our data on a daily across the country. Yeah. So that's, it's, it's evolving. We're still very growing business and we're excited to be at this stage of our growth.
A
Yes. That's amazing. Now talk to us about that holy spokes moment. So I am a consumer, I'm using Immortal AI. Talk to us about that moment where it changed it for somebody. Like it changed everything. It made them say, oh, I get this now. This isn't so complicated.
B
It makes sense that, I mean, so I have to say that even though the, the product is just getting out of beta. Right. And you know, the businesses who onboarded on Immortal, I've found it very, I would say without being immodest, very life changing. Because I mean the concept of Immortal AI is every business deserves to live forever. Right. So.
A
Oh, I like that. Thank you for that.
B
Yeah, that's the context of it. So many of the businesses who, I mean, especially in this part of the world, drive blind. So we found out about nine out of 10 businesses didn't have any data to run their business with. So many businesses will come, would say, where is my data? And you know, they would say, we'll tell them that, look, all those apps that you currently use, that's where your data is embedded in so when we allow them to, for example, allow them to connect to where their store marketing is done on, on maybe x or on YouTube, pull the data out there or their HR applications aggregating everything into one central community channel, they say, now this is the real deal. Right. So it simplifies it across all the embedded platforms where, you know, they use, and then also some other structured sources if they are bigger companies, and brings them all together and allows them, for example, to have a Canva friendly drag and drop feature to customize their data the way they would like to be. So a lot of businesses say it is almost like a combination of Power bi, which is. Yes. And Canva all sitting on plate. Plate where you have interactions with different financial institutions. Right. So it's almost like Canva plus Power BI sitting on and the system that can pull data from everywhere.
A
Got it. I got it. So number one, gave me chills. Immortal AI so businesses can live on forever. Very thoughtful, very creative.
B
Thank you.
A
Yes. And then you were talking about, and you're right, there are so many businesses not only in Nigeria and Africa, but all over the world where you have these businesses. Let's just talk about the small ones for now. Where you're doing your social media, you might have a couple of employees that you need to pay. So you have the payroll, you have the hr, you have all these different functional apps that you're using and you have to log into all of them. So it sounds like to me, but let me not answer for you. Which leads me to our other question is when we pick the brain of Immortal AI, when we open up the hood, you kind of started to tell us about that. What will we find? How does it work? If I am the user, I set up an account and then what?
B
So when you set up an account. Right. First ibotta will ask you, where, where do you have your data currently? Right.
A
Okay.
B
Yeah. So we have, as of today, over a hundred different types of connections that can be established. So. Oh, right. So you would go there and say, okay, I want to pull data in from my marketing campaign so you could do that. Or no, I want you to give me insight in what's happening in my hr. Right. So you connect to the exact, exact HR application that you are currently using. We've integrated with some of the ones that are very local to us here in Nigeria and some of Africa countries. And. Or you could say, oh, for example, I want to see what's happening in the capital market. So we also integrated with about 10 different capital markets from Even the New York stocks exchange, Niger stock exceed different markets. So you could pull from almost anywhere and then have Immortal giving insights in one omnichannel. Then you could use it also to say, okay, good, I have all this data. Can I create a very dynamic report? That's where the design excellence of Immortal also comes in, where you can drag and drop features, maps, everything. And it comes into a very smart report that you could either present as a MIDI level manager to either your bosses or even as a boss, you could see it as a dashboard. So it just comes together. And then you can also build inside prompts, for example, sending alert when this exceeds this number, you know. So Immortal is almost like a data analysis that never sleeps, but one that allows you to visualize as excellently as you like to eat or not.
A
Okay, I love that. I love that. Now you were talking about you're still in the beta phase, which is fine. We have guests that have, you know, launched and commercialized. We have guests in beta because our listeners want to know what's out there and what's coming, you know, so that's really, really great there. Now, as the founder or one of the founders, talk to me about a time where as you were developing it, as you were testing it, you were blown away by what you created, where you got chills. And if you have a little victory dance, you can do that too. So we can kind of, you know, I might see if I can't get something in the background now, Femi, honestly, I asked this question to a lot of my guests and you're the first one that did a dance. Everyone else, yes, you're the first one to do a dance. I gotta live it to my Nigerian brethren to do that.
B
Right? So, you know, so there were moments where, you know, we initially I started building models and, you know, we started seeing the capabilities because, you know, before we started building, a lot of people had reached out to us saying, guys, help us in the business area. Our data is stuck everywhere. How can we evolve as a business? You know, so when we started seeing what was really possible, it was like we started having that goosebumps like this would change a lot. This is going to be a big deal. And so far, all the businesses who've come on board have said this is going, it's going to be very revolutionary. And it's not just for Nigeria or Africa. We believe that it's a global platform.
A
That's great. And who are your target customers? Is it your, you know, founder that has three employees? Are we talking about you, are we talking about large banks? Like who are your ideal target customers? So as folks are listening, they can tune in.
B
So, so we, we, we looked at the, the business demographic that worked for us and we said typically people with an ER of like maybe 500k but typically to maybe 500k ER and above. Right.
A
Is this a month or a year? Is this turnover a month or a year?
B
So that would be a business with maybe about 10 employees thereabouts and above. Right. Because you would, it'd be business that we typically needed a data analyst before. Right. So with Immortal, I would like to say, not that you need a data analyst, but everybody in your team can actually become that data analyst. With Immortal, So that's the flip side of it. It's almost the same way. Before Calvin, for example, came into play, people needed designers, right? Absolutely. Now with Immortal, you can actually go build your report yourself and you don't need anything, anybody to do that for you anymore. So typical team will be 5 to 10 and above and typically maybe at the hour of like 500k and above. So small businesses are growing. Target customers.
A
Okay, awesome. Now you said that you know, if I use Immortal AI or anyone uses it, it can pull from over 100 different set sources.
B
Absolutely.
A
As you were building this, how are you thinking about like the ethics behind this? I mean, this is data. How do you think about the ethics? How do you make sure that your customers feel like, okay, this is all secure, nothing's going to get out there and that you're protecting my privacy and then you're not crossing any, what one could think are ethical boundaries?
B
It's a very good question, Tamara. And one of the things that we built into it is at the core of it, we ensure that how we anonymize data in terms of ensuring that first the sensitive data doesn't get stolen. Our db, it's very important because what you really want to see is the analysis of the data, not the personalized part of it. So we try and strip off this very really sensitive part of it, even as people are bringing it to us. Second part of it is we tasked ourselves with very deep compliance into ensuring that we self audit ourselves to ensure that we do not breach any global data protection policies. And then we quickly ensure that we will have external auditors come look at us to ensure that, you know, we are consistent with best practices globally. It's very important because giving our customers that peace of mind that your data is safe with us is very important. And we've been aggregating data over the years and people have come, trust us, that we would operate, editing with their data.
A
Okay, awesome, awesome. Now all this definitely sounds like it is a game changer for, you know, the smaller employer or the smaller business there. Talk to us about how is Immortal AI going to change the world. Think about the future of immortal AI. What is it going to do, where it is going to like the world can't live without it. What, what is your vision for that? What does that look like?
B
So it's so there. I would say when we broke that, broke it down, we looked at the bigger businesses, okay, 5, 10% of those businesses off. We looked at the tiny businesses, another maybe 5, 10 in that center. There was 7% of businesses across the world where data isn't driving them significantly. We believe very strongly that we can be that one platform that will connect to every available source, embedded data source across the globe. Right. So and which is where we are building our technical competence in. Right. Secondly, leveraging either our own proprietary tech for AI or certain large language models that are already out there. We want to have people engage their data as though they're talking with like an agent and so on. Absolutely. So we believe that in 5, 10 years immortal AI will be that benchmark for engaging your data. Either structured data, unstructured data, direct data or embedded data. We believe that every business should have Immortal AI within their suite of solutions.
A
I love that. I absolutely love that. So, you know, our listeners are very curious. Like you got to make them believers. They just don't believe you because you said it.
B
I know, right?
A
So Femi, I gotta be honest with you, you know, our listeners, they want to see you gotta make them believers just because you said it, you know. So if we want to today, this week, experience Immortal AI, you know, experiment with it, build with it, try it out, what do we do?
B
So as I said earlier, we're still in beta, but we'll be getting out of beta this month, right? Okay, absolutely. You could go to our website, StarSense Co and join the waitlist. We definitely notify you immediately we're out of beta and you can have all the fun you want to have with that with that application.
A

A
Awesome, awesome, I love that. All right, so you know we, we talked about this before. I have one part of this discussion that is called From One Genius to Another. And so my last guest has a question for you, Femi. And, and that question is what do you think learning will look like with AI in the next few years?
B
I think it's actually a great question and I've always thought that one of the downsides of learning today is the curriculum based learning. I've always felt that it's slightly, I mean people might argue back and forth but I've always felt that when you put people into that box of you have to learn based on the curriculum, it limits their abilities to explore. What AI will transform is from curriculum based learning into interest based learning, which is, this is what I'm interested in. I want to find out how can I build this particular set and then AI gives you every information possible along that line rather than you having to go learn other stuff that are not really relevant, which is practically what happens today. This will be changed very, very quickly and I'm for one will be so excited because I've always felt like universities just try boxing into some, a lot of stuff. Right. But AI would make it in such a way that any information set you have interest in, you're going to be able to have every relevant data or every relevant information around that, that, that interest set. Right. And this for me, I can't wait. I'm already experiencing it today and I believe that get accelerated in the near future.
A
Right. You heard it here first. You heard it here first with Femi. So now let's go into our rapid fire. Fire. So I'm going to ask you four questions. I'm going to ask a question quickly. You give me the answer quickly. So number one, overrated AI trend.
B
Overrated AI trends. I would say embedded AI into virtual reality.
A
Okay.
B
Embedding AI into virtual reality. Yeah. I've always felt the VR itself is not necessarily the future. Right. We thought about that, that you know, the world will want to continue to remain interactive rather than being virtual. Right. So yeah, yeah. It didn't surprise me that the world isn't moving as aggressively in that direction as the progress at taught. Yeah. So it's very overrated.
A
Okay. Under hyped. AI trend under hyped.
B
Especially as I'm seeing the out the results today in our ecosystem is video AGI. Very under hyped. Very, very on the hyped. The ability to create dynamic videos on the fly is transforming many, many industries. As I speak to you right in in Africa and you know people are using train out quick adverts. Very, very understated.
A
Okay, awesome. A book we should all read on AI or the future.
B
So I'll take you back. Right?
A
Take us to the future.
B
Right. So as an entrepreneur, the one book that has really inspired me is the Greatest Salesman in the World by Ogman Dino. Way, way back. One of the best books I've ever read. And if you're creating businesses, a more recent book, zero to one by Peter Thiel. Great books.
A
Okay.
B
Yeah.
A
All right, awesome. Thanks for tuning in to lead with AI. I'll see you next time as we continue exploring the cutting edge innovations shaping AI across the public and private sectors. Until then, keep leading with AI.
