I'm either really, really dressed up or I'm like, in sweats. I have a hard time with the in betweens.
Guest
That's my specialty.
Host
Hence the episode Everybody.
Guest
Yeah, right. For in between outfits, specifically, it's these very basic outfits that are realistic, are easy, and are the outfits that we're actually wearing. If you are a little bit more methodical with those pieces, you'll end up really feeling confident in those in between outfits. I think what I spend the most money on is my denim.
Host
I've really just been a resale girl. I would say all my best buys
Guest
have been from resale and Etsy.

Guest
Good to be here. Thank you for having me.
Host
Thrilled to have you on, like, one of your first podcasts, too.
Guest
Yes, it is. I'm so, so excited.
Host
Listeners, rejoice. Please get her in a new format.
Guest
It's so exciting. I feel like, you know, we can both. I feel like offline. We've talked so about different things and it's like, good to sit down and get it all there.
Host
I say this often. One of my favorite parts of having the show is just bringing friends on who I have great conversations with and to actually record them.
Guest
Exactly.
Host
I'm so excited to get into all this. I feel like today I'm going to learn the most out of this.
Guest
I'm so excited. Yeah.
Host
But we have just launched a new series on the podcast called Receipts.
Guest
So excited.
Host
And so I have to get these first for you before we get into the nitty gritty. So what is the biggest investment you've made in your closet or wardrobe?
Guest
I think what I spend the most money on is my denim. Wow. Yeah. I never say no to a pair of denim if it fits me right. I'm like, that's what we're doing. So I. And I'm even wearing, like, a really good pair right now. We'll talk about it later. But I think my vintage Levi's collection, it spans and if it fits me right, I'm buying it. And, you know, those can cost upwards. I mean, they can range. I've gotten deals, like, at the flea market, and then I've invested, you know, a few hundred dollars in a really perfect pair. And I think that those are the pieces that I wear the most. So that's what I invest in the most.
Host
What's the most you've ever spent on a pair of jeans?
Guest
I think, like, 300, 350.
Host
It's crazy. Now I feel like I'm seeing jeans that are, like, insanely expensive.
Guest
Even more like, I had. I've bought, you know, like, the Kate jeans before.
Host
Right. And those are like, what, 600?
Guest
Yes. And they're expensive, but they don't fit me right.
Host
They don't fit me right either. No shade to Kate. We love you, too.
Guest
No shade. We love you so much. They don't fit me right, but they
Host
literally come up to my bra.
Guest
I'm, like, curvier, and I have hips, and they just. They don't work well with my hips. But I have spent on jeans. I've spent money on jeans. But, like, now, I think most recently, it's eyewear.
Host
Say more, because I have a take, which is that.
Guest
Tell me the take. Save on eyewear.
Host
Don't buy expensive eyewear, guys.
Guest
Okay. Okay. So I've always been of the mindset that you can absolutely find amazing eyewear for a great deal. And I kind of do both. I'm very high, low in general with my style, and especially in each category, specifically eyewear. I'm like, I have a Target pair that I'm obsessed with. And then I also. I'll splurge. And the reason why I say to splurge is because I wear them so much. I get so much mileage on especially the last two pairs that I've bought, where now I'm kind of like, okay. I think that I'm more in the mindset that you can splurge a little bit and invest a little bit in your eyewear.
Host
Yeah. Please give us a show. No. Those are so fabulous.
Guest
Like, let's look.
Host
Come on.
Guest
These.
Host
Are we all looking?
Guest
These are Phoebe Filo.
Host
If you're not on YouTube right now and you're listening audibly, she is wearing these, like, I. Unbelievable. Phoebe Filo. Like, brown, not tortoise. They're like a light brown. It's so cool. They're a round aviator, but on top of it, there's a second layer of, like, a square.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Like Lucite.
Guest
Lucite. They're super 70s.
Host
So cool on you.
Guest
Thank you. Thank you. They're so fun. And honestly, they were. They kind of came out of left field. I had not seen them. They're, you know, like those Bomba sunglasses that she does. And like, they're everywhere. These ones were very. They're called the cookie sunglasses.
Host
Okay.
Guest
I'm like a cookie monster. I love cookies. And like, I like to have a meaning to something, you know? So for these, I was like, a little bit. I mean, there's a price tag.
Host
Right? Right. How much were those?
Guest
You know, I think that they were around six.
Host
Okay.
Guest
If I'm not mistaken. And I had recently also invested in the Kate sunglasses, which are like the Kate Oliver Peoples. I also brought those. Like, they're amazing. And I wear those every single day. And I really felt like they brought something and they brought a little point of view to my very casual outfits. And that's just why I was like, you know what? I love having these as an option. I love kind of expanding my eyewear collection because I think that now it's kind of a part of my personal style. It's like I can bring these in and I can spice up and elevate just like a really simple outfit.
Host
It's true.
Guest
It's adding so much different, you know? And like, you can. And I did, and I will say I did find a beautiful pair that look so similar to these, that are vintage, that are 70s. You could find them on Etsy. I found the pair that I'm talking about at Arcade in La Vint, one of my favorite vintage stores in La Depop, too. Depop. Like, you can find this look for way less. I just. I do see the draw because you wear. I wear them so much much, and I'm like, okay, so that. So I'm being honest with you.
Host
I get it.
Guest
I've been investing in eyewear.
Host
How many sunglasses have you lost in your life? It's my Roman empire. I think about where all my lost sunglasses are. Like, where. Where are they in this world?
Guest
And so that's why I've lost a Chanel pair that were like my armor. I mean. No, I get it. And I think it was just time in my life. I'm 30. And I was like, you're not frickin losing another.
Host
No.
Guest
And you're not that person.
Host
That's so funny.
Guest
I was like, we're done doing that. So I just. I'm way more insane about, like, knowing where my glass. Like, I'm very. I put them in the Case I treat them with respect.
Host
Yeah. Someone saw the inside of my bag the other day, and I had two. I will show you guys my bag now. Two roaming sunglasses. And someone was like, oh, you're that girl. And I was like, yeah, I'm that girl, too. I mean, I'm trying not to be. And look, I know that I just said, don't invest in sunglasses. And I have one pair of sunglasses that I wear every single day. I have bought them in every color, and it's the Kate 1983 C. Oliver people sunglasses.
Guest
Okay, I know which one. My best friend has those.
Host
I wear them every day in black Tortoise. I just bought them in red. Yeah, I did just buy. I'm gonna go get them. Okay.
Guest
See, you do like investing in sunglasses. I love this.
Host
So I just got these, and these were, like, 130 bucks.
Guest
I love them.
Host
I'm still figuring them out. The YouTube people can tell me if they like them or not.
Guest
Wait, what's the brand?
Host
These are Alisa John.
Guest
I love those.
Host
They're cool, right? And, like, you're right. I do feel like for an outfit that I'm wearing now, like, no, no. It's such an easy way.
Guest
No, it just did so much for the outfit. So, like, that's okay. I have to recommend that it's eyewear also.
Host
Really quickly, guys. I just want to audibly describe them for people who aren't watching on YouTube. The Elisa Johnson ones that I had are kind of like an aviator frame with, like, a light pinkish yellow. How would you describe that for me?
Guest
Yeah, they're like. They're like a light brown almost.
Host
Yeah, they're like a thick, thick kind of aviator. And I love them. I actually got them at the new Kith store on Sunset. Those are, by the way, if you are in la, the Kith store has such a good selection of cool eyewear.
Guest
Okay, great to know. And those are a good, nice price point.
Host
1. 35, I guess they were.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Great price point.
Guest
Yeah. And, like, then we have. Oh, the Chanel ones. Vintage Chanel.
Host
Where'd you get those from?
Guest
The RealReal. And I got them for under 200. And it's like.
Host
Did they fit you when you got them?
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Okay, so these Chanel ones are like an ombre shade.
Guest
Yeah, they're like a lens, like a dark, like a brownish red.
Host
And then, like.
Guest
Yeah, with like, a mother of pearl Chanel.
Host
They're extremely chic.
Guest
These are from, like, probably.
Host
We keep looking at each other ourselves in the.
Guest
I know we're bad. Early 2000s. Like, my mom probably had these, like, I don't even remember. But so good. I was like, I told you, I lost a pair of my treasured Chanel sunglasses. And I was like, you know what? I want to replace those in some way. And I think I had these on my, like, 2006 Christmas list. And my mom was like, who do you think you are, Kim? Like, and so we were living up in dreams, and I found them for a great price. So like I said, you can find amazing quality designer sunglasses for a great price. But they are the secret to a cool outfit. Yeah, they are.
Host
Okay. So high rating. You'd purchase it again. We recommend the investment.
Guest
All of them.
Host
Okay.
Guest
And I honestly like the. The other most recent things. I've bought a lot on the realreal. Like, vintage Giorgio Armani.
Host
Really good Giorgio Armani. Recently you are spot on with that.
Guest
Like, yes.
Host
So good. There's a. Like a black cropped, like a fitted jacket.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
That is kind of like what you're wearing today.
Guest
This is vintage Jill Sander. And I also love vintage Jill Sander on the realreal. Yeah. Love.
Host
Yeah. I find so many good kind of designer things on there. I've really lately been oscillating between, like, depop for, like, every day. Like, cool vintage tees. Like, not label things. No label cargo pants and, like, fun tees. And then I'll go to the real real and, like, look at the designer things. Yeah. I've really just been a resale girl. Last year, I would find. I would say all my best buys have been from resale.
Guest
I was gonna say the same thing. And Etsy.
Host
No way.
Guest
Oh, oh. You know, you don't know about Etsy.
Host
No, I'm not Etsy. Verse.
Guest
Did you see that yellow dress I wore last week?
Host
Yes, I absolutely did.
Guest
No label.
Host
No label.
Guest
Etsy fit me like a glove. Didn't even have to tailor it. Tell us in the 60s.
Host
I need to understand. Okay, so I have used Etsy for, like, gifts and home.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
What are you searching on Etsy?
Guest
Etsy is incredible. And that is where I've gotten most. A lot of my recent purchases too. I'm doing the same thing. A lot of resale just, like, feels so much more one of one, a little bit more unique.
Host
Yep.
Guest
And honestly, it's all about the fabric. Like, you need to know. You need to learn about fabrics, you need to learn about brocade. You need to learn about typing in silk taffeta. Like, you need to know what you're looking for specific down to the fabric. Hundred percent silk chiffon, you know, and that really narrows in on what it's spitting out to you. So I feel like learning about fabrics and search terms that include fabrics and is how you get the result a good way to.
Host
Not to interrupt, but a good way. If you guys are like, how do I do that?
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Jenna Lyons has an incredible series on her Instagram, so.
Guest
Right.
Host
That breaks down all of the different fabrics, how to find the best ones. It's probably far back in her reels tab.
Guest
It is a little older.
Host
I find it because it actually. It taught me a lot.
Guest
Yes. And so that is a perfect example of, like, taking those search terms and plugging them in. And you'll find so much gold for that specific dress. I'm very into brocade. I'm very into Jacquard fabrics. And a lot of those that they're doing today. Even it's vintage inspired. So you type it in. I'm like, I mean, I found this gorgeous brocade jacket with, like, mother of pearl buttons. That was like a label I would have never. I mean, like, it's these brands from the past that, you know, they didn't make it or whatever. They were hot in the 60s or 70s or 80s and they're no longer. But they produced quality stuff. And so those are the underrated brands that, like, you're not gonna really find. Even on the RealReal. I actually have a safe search for the no name and I comb through it.
Host
On the RealReal.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
I'm a freak.
Guest
I comb through it. Wow. Because I do think that there's some gems sometimes, but I just maybe.
Host
Am I not trusting? Do I have trust issues?
Guest
I think it's like an eye thing. You gotta really dissect it, and that takes time. You need to have some patience for that with Etsy. I like it because it'll share a lot of information about the brand. And the photos sometimes are a little bit better where you could zoom in and see what it is. So I really have enjoyed shopping on Etsy lately.
Host
Are you messaging the seller? Like, are you having a conversation? You're just buying.
Guest
I have another hack too, please. Which I. Which people were. People were shocked at the event. So I hosted an event last week with Lucy Delias. She's a beautiful designer, a fine jewelry designer in the uk And I wore this vintage dress and it was like a brocade yellow with florals. It's stunning. And everyone was, like, shocked at how well it fit me. And they're like, did you get this tailored, like, after you got it. And I was like, no. So what I've been doing is chat knows my. And I started doing this for, like, Levi's. Chat knows my measurements.
Host
ChatGPT.
Guest
ChatGPT.
Host
Okay, just chat.
Guest
Yeah, no, I've plugged in now. At this point, they know my measurements. And I think this dated from when I was getting married. Like, I had to do a conversion for something and I'm really bad at math and everything. And even my measurements, like, I'm not good at that stuff. So I remember I got all my measurements done for my wedding for something, so I had them all handy and I plugged it in to chat to see if I. If something on Etsy would fit me based on those measurements. And I now I will, like, copy and paste the measurements that the seller will give because they're very specific. They'll give it down to the centimeter and I'll plug it into chat. And I'm like, compared to my measurements, how will this fit me?
Host
Genius.
Guest
And it literally said, this is going to fit you like a glove.
Host
Genius.
Guest
Click add to cart. Checkout done. And what did it do? Fit me like a glove. Like, it fit me like a glove. I don't have to do anything. So I do think, like, using that as a tool has been helpful for. For buying vintage stuff, fashion girls, for A.I. literally, I'm like, oh, my God, am I giving away too much like this?
Host
No, I think, like, those, in my opinion, like, I. If you're using those things as a tool, yeah, I'm all for it. I know.
Guest
What is it here for?
Host
There are so many different things that you can use it for. And the measurements one is a really great one.
Guest
Right?
Host
Yeah. And I know.
Guest
And honestly, like, I. I didn't know it was going to be a reoccurring thing, but it's proved to be so helpful. Even with Ready to Wear, not vintage. You know, just comparing, sizing. And if you're like, if a brand, it doesn't really give you much info. It's so easy to just take the measurements it gives you and plug it in there and compare it to your own.
Host
I need to get my measurements done. So smart. So smart.
Guest
Right?
Host
So one of the reasons I wanted to bring you on is one, of course, impeccable style. I. Every time I see you, I'm like, she looks so good. But I think you do such a great job of, like, everyday, elevated outfits.
Guest
You're so sweet. First of all, back at you.
Host
Oh, I feel the opposite.
Guest
No, like, no, Back at you. You have such polished, beautiful style.
Host
Thank you. I think one of the things that really struggle with and one of the things I love to do with the show is like, if I'm. If it's something I'm struggling with in my everyday style, like, I love to bring on people to, like, help guide me and listeners through that journey. Because 90% of the time, if I'm experiencing it, everyone's experiencing it too, for sure. But I have a hard time with the in betweens.
Guest
That's my specialty.
Host
Hence the episode.
Guest
Yeah, right.
Host
I'm either, like, really, really dressed up. Like I've said numerous times on the show, I'm kind of a serial overdresser.
Guest
Yep.
Host
Or I'm like, in sweats. So that in between kind of everyday world was always really hard for me. And even more so when I moved back to la, when I was living in New York, I felt like that world was like, always a bit more dressed up.
Guest
It is.
Host
You are.
Guest
It is.
Host
And in la, I just had such a hard time navigating that in between.
Guest
Yes.
Host
And I think you are someone who has done that so well.
Guest
Thank you.
Host
Incredibly, incredibly, incredibly well.
Guest
Well, it's so funny because I feel like LA has influenced my. My personal style a lot. I lived here for, like, almost nine years and originally from Chicago, and I feel like Chicago and New York have a similar vibe where it is a little bit more dressed up and there aren't as many. Chicago can lean a little bit more casual than New York. But moving here really brought my style into the casual stratosphere. And I think I was almost like, forced to learn how to master the casual style because of the environment here. Everyone's kind of perfected, like the jeans and a tee outfit in their own way, and everyone looks very personal to them and you can do it in different ways. But I also started showing my outfits on social media with more of these in between outfits. It was really, really pared down. It was really, really casual. It was like the outfits I was wearing to go in the office, and my office, you know, culture was way more casual than business casual. And, you know, I'd be in like, a sweatshirt and track pants or like, whatever it was, and I would share that. And I think that it kind of gave me the confidence to share those in between outfits and expand on them and kind of work on them. You have to, like, flex a muscle with them a little bit.
Host
Absolutely.
Guest
And it's hard to. When I get this a lot with some of my followers, they're Like, I work from home, I don't know how to dress myself because I'm working from home all the time or I'm a stay at home mom and I wanna look a little bit more polished and how can I do that? And I really think it's kind of investing in those categories which, those are the categories that get left behind that you don't think to invest in. But I think if you pay a little bit more attention and are a little bit more methodical with those pieces, you'll end up really enjoying and feeling confident in those in between outfits.
Host
I want to go all the way back to the beginning of this episode talking about your personal style, how you got to this point.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Obviously you grew up in Chicago.
Guest
Yes.
Host
Moved to la.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
I want to hear a little bit about how LA has really shaped your style. How has it been influential in the way that you are getting dressed every day?
Guest
So I think when I think about getting dressed in LA specifically or California, it's, it's feeling really confident in what you know is flattering and there's no pressure. It's like my husband's from here. He grew up here too. He's from Manhattan beach. And if he could live in board shorts and rainbow flip flops and a surf shirt, like he would. And I appreciate that about him because it's like his 9 to 5 is like so different than what he comes and changes into. He's like buttoned up and in a suit and then he like changes into like his true colors. But I feel like that's what's so great about LA is that it's so easy and you know, it's a lot of high and low and you can be wearing something so precious, but you're also wearing, you know, a hundred percent cotton T shirt with it. It doesn't need to be like a pinned up blouse tucked in with a belt. Like it's not like that here. So I think it's like a bit unpolished in la. It's just a little bit unserious here. So I like that about it. And I feel like it's kind of made me, it's kind of made me appreciate the slow and steadiness and not. So you're not in a rush like in New York or in Chicago. Like I feel like you're in a rush and it's a little bit, it leans a little bit more moody here. It's a little bit lighter.
Host
It's true.
Guest
And even like my, my shoes, like when I go to New York and Chicago, I'm like, I don't have the right shoes. I feel like here it's all about, like, your good flats, your flip flops, you know, and, you know, a sneaker here and there. And that's what I've really honed in on. And that's what really shaped my personal style. And moving into that, having a signature style or a signature outfit that feels very you. I think it's easy to do that in la.
Host
The shoe thing is a great point because I remember I lived in New York for 10 years and I had like a wall of shoes and hardly any heels.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Obviously not wearing them in the US A lot of sneakers.
Guest
Right.
Host
When I moved to la, I remember, like, three, four months into moving, I was like, I had a very big reckoning with my closet. Totally where I had realized how different LA life was.
Guest
I didn't have.
Host
I didn't have a single pair of flip flops. Not a single one. I mean, this is coming from someone who, like, grew up around Malib. Like, I just have gotten rid of all of that.
Guest
Right, right, right.
Host
Why I'm not using that in New York. No sandals, no ballet flats, nothing.
Guest
Right.
Host
And I really felt like that was like, the true indicator of where you live.
Guest
Yes.
Host
Has so much to do with the shoes that you have.
Guest
It really does. And I noticed that, like, when I'm traveling and I'm like, okay, I needed this. Yeah. And like, we'll kind of get into the gaps in the closet stuff, but. Cause that's another series I have. But I mean, here is just so rooted in ease. It's like a slip on a slide on. That's what you need here. And it has to do with the leather too, which is wonderful.
Host
I'm curious if when you moved here, you were following anybody or certain things were on your Pinterest board. One thing I actually recently got asked in an AMA was someone saying, I'm moving to a new city and don't know if I'm supposed to change my personal style to match that city. Did you have that experience?
Guest
So it was so interesting. I moved here after college, so I feel like after college, wherever you are, you're a little bit confused.
Host
Cause you're like, in every aspect of life, by the way.
Guest
Oh, my God. Wow. We could have a whole other podcast, whole other pod out there. Invite me back, we'll talk. But no, I feel like after college I was, like, so confused. Cause I went to Indiana in the Midwest, which is so much fun. And there's a Melting pot of just different stuff, styles, different cultures, different parts of the country. And what we would wear in 2017, I mean, it's unspeakable. I can't even.
Host
Unspeakable horse.
Guest
I had the Jeffrey Campbell, you know, like, LEDA boots.
Host
We love those every day. I wore those in high school.
Guest
Oh, yeah, girl. I mean, I don't judge. Like, I was wearing it all, Francesca's necklaces, everything crazy. So I think coming off of that, I was, like, already confused. And then moving here, it was kind of the era of. Well, also, LA does have a lot of sub. Different style in different areas. So, like, you know, there's some, like, gorpcore vibes in some areas. You know what I mean? Like, there's some, like, very. That leans, like, super casual and, like, chore jackets in some areas. And I don't even know, like, there's different style all over the city. So I was inspired by all of it. Like, I was like, wow. Like, it's really cool to see, like, the really, really. Cause and there's also really, really polished women walking around that are like, you know, sometimes in, like, a pantsuit, and then maybe they might be wearing flats still, but they're in a pantsuit, you know, and in Beverly Hills or like, whatever it is. And they have beautiful blouses and beautiful fabrics. And then there's, like, Venice, you know, and I lived in Venice for a little bit, and we had, like, cool hats and, like, big vintage Levi trucker jackets. And I just think that there was, like, a lot all at once, and I was, like, really trying to, like, weave through it all because it was a lot of inspiration, it was a lot of influence, and I didn't. I didn't quite figure it out for a few years. I feel like this is where it shifted. I started to dress for my body type and what was flattering on me because a lot of these different things I was trying to were not working. And I didn't see it right away. Like, you don't really see it when you're in it, but looking back, I'm like, oh, you were not dressing for your body type. And what looked flattering on me, like, I do not wear shorts anymore. I hate shorts. Like, I just. I don't like them on me. And it's a thing just for myself, you know, you're in the right place.
Host
Yeah, everyone. The audience knows you have a personal vendetta against shorts.
Guest
Everyone has their.
Host
You're welcome here.
Guest
You know, I think I've heard you say that before. And, like, I do love, like, a long, short now, but see, you kind of have to learn what works for you and your body type. And I think that that's what kind of shifted me into my personal style, because I was like, wait, this is all not working? And why isn't it working? You know, I also, like, you know, have a larger bust, and I'm like, how do I work with that and make that feel like, you know, a little bit more flattering or whatever? And if I'm wearing, like, a really tight top, maybe I won't wear, like, a really tight bottom. It's like, the balance of all those things, and I think it took me a while to get there.
Host
You know, you were mentioning earlier that you feel like LA has helped you find a signature look, which I love. Yeah, I agree. I think it's a place of ease and repetition, and it really allows you to, like, find that everyday sense of self. Yeah, I want to hear a little bit about how that was shaped in tandem with learning your body type. Because when someone says to me, oh, I learned my body type and I started dressing for it, what does that really mean?
Guest
Yeah, so I think it's all about, like, the cuts of things and proportions is a huge thing. And not being afraid to size up or size down, like, and know when to do those things. You kind of have to, like, use a lot of discernment when you're shopping because two sizes up might look way better than your true size. And it might. It just might read better. It might look styled differently. It'll look like a completely different outfit, you know, So I think that that really helped me in not feeling so pigeonholed to, like, first of all, my size and not feeling so pigeonholed to, like, well, this is what you're like, what you should wear, you know, and you. You are like a size. You are size blank. And that's why also, like, even online, and I know some of my followers probably get a little bit annoyed about this, but I don't like to always share my exact size because there's so much context behind it. And I think it's more helpful. And maybe some would disagree, but I think it's way more helpful. And also, like, a lot of people don't know us in person. Like, they don't know exactly what your body looks like in person. Yeah, sure, you have a photo, like, it can read a certain way, but people also think, I'm 5 8. I'm not 5 8. I'm 5 4, you know, so it's like, it's a little bit misleading sometimes where I'm like, no, I want to give you the best possible recommendation in sizing. And I think that saying, like, this fits true to size, or I sized up two sizes from my true size or whatever, it might be. Like, those indicators feel a little bit more honest and a little bit more helpful. So, like, that's also where, you know, I, even with myself, had to be like, okay, what is my true size? You know, where am I? Like, where am I in my weight? Or, like, whatever, like, in my sizing that I can give, like, a great recommendation based on that information.
Host
You know, can you give an example of, like, a piece that you've, like, sized up on that's worked? Because I've actually never tried that before.
Guest
Okay.
Host
And I, too, am someone who's in between sizes sometimes. I'm a. In some denim brands.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
They fit so tiny or like, they fit big. So I'm a 24 or I'm a 26 or I'm a 25.
Guest
Yes.
Host
It really differs. So I chew them. Five, four. I'm not curvy. I'm pretty.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Straight. Like a toilet paper roll, as they told me in high school. But what, like, give an example.
Guest
Yeah. So even these jeans, these jeans, which I was going to get into at some point, they're wonderful. They're by rlt. They're Rachel's new jeans that they are making in house, which is, like, incredible. And I found that they actually ran a little bit smaller. They fit me in my true size. They fit me, like, objectively. They fit. They buttoned. And I was like, no, I need to size up because, like, this is not. They're not laying how I want them to lay. They don't look like vintage Levi's in my true size to me. Like, my vintage Levi's that I buy are a little bit oversized. And so that's an example also, like, in a lot of vintage. I like to size up, honestly, because I like to wear things lower on my hips, personally. And since I am curvier, like, I have to size up so that it'll fit, like, the most outward point of my hip, for example.
Host
I love those. I tried them on last week. They were so great. So good.
Guest
Really good.
Host
We love RLT in this one.
Guest
Yeah. Love, love, love. I'm also wearing an RLT T shirt, which is.
Host
We're wearing the same tee.
Guest
Is it the cotton cashmere one? Yeah, we're wearing the same tee. It's the best.
Host
This is messy.
Guest
Guys, best T shirt ever. Yeah, I think ever it is.
Host
I completely agree.
Guest
Such a great cut in all the
Host
right places, but I think I'm wearing, like, a medium in it. I sized up because I like it,
Guest
like, a little longer.
Host
I don't like a crop tee so much.
Guest
Yeah, no, me either. It's so good.
Host
I get all my basics from her. I love hearing you talk about L A style. Do you feel like L A gets a bad rep when it comes to fashion? I feel like everyone's like, it's lazy. It's leggings, it's this, it's that.
Guest
Yeah. I think what I'd say to those people is, and if you walk around LA and you truly, like, can admire and appreciate the people that live here and the people that are getting dressed here, there is a way to elevate LA style, and I do think a lot of women do it. And men. There's great men's style in la too. I have to. I have to give them credit. I think it's all about, like, a good elevated jacket, a good elevated accessory. Like, and those are the things that kind of bring it to somewhere else. I think that because we're not super fancy, I mean, even when I'm, like, going to dinner here, sometimes I just feel like if I'm trying to be too overdressed, I'm like, this just isn't it. Like, it's just not how it is here. And you don't ever want to feel like you're. I mean, it's not bad to be overdressed, but I'm like, LA has this, like, a. Like an air where it's like, you don't want to be trying too hard, you know, because it is so easy. And even, like, the most. The most dressed up person in the restaurant might still be wearing jeans.
Host
Yes. Like, what are you wearing? Out to dinner at night, like, to a birthday party.
Guest
I feel like the way I elevate my la, like, day to night, is with a heel. Yeah, a low heel. Not anything crazy, but, like, look at these. Yeah, look, a heel. I love these.
Host
Like, I'm wearing a heeled sandal right now.
Guest
Yeah. I love Jude. And I've gotten, like, two new pairs. Like, this is also a part of my, like, closet gaps thing, which we, like, gotta talk about at some point, so just cut me off whenever. But these Jude heels I got are, like, perfection for this, like, thing. Even last night, I wore. I wore a pair of Tory Burch heels. They're awesome. They're a little Bit funky.
Host
Tori makes the best heels.
Guest
Oh, my God, the best. And they're like. You're such a Tori girl too. Yeah.
Host
I almost wore my. I have like a pierced, like the Pierce Mule ones.
Guest
Yes.
Host
I almost wore them today. They're so my favorite.
Guest
I have these peep toe ones from her last season. They still sell them. They're amazing. They have like, the funkiest, chunkiest heel. They're so cool. And I'm like, this is how we can, like, bring a little bit of elevation, a little bit of city, you know, into our, like, really casual outfit. So that's what I'm doing. Or like a really cool clutch.
Host
Yep.
Guest
That's what I would do for dinner.
Host
Because even, like, if I saw what you were wearing now with either a cool shoe or clutch, I'd be like, ugh.
Guest
That's what I do. Like, I just swap the shoe. I maybe add like a vintage silver extra cuff or something and like, really good eyewear.
Host
Okay, let's get into the in between outfits. Because we've teased them so many times in this episode, I feel like it's time that we get there.
Guest
Yes. So for in between outfits, specifically, and if those of you who are listening don't know what it is, it's a series that I kind of introduced on. I think it started on my TikTok. And I am. I've always shared my daily style. Like, I will never stop sharing my daily outfits. Things that, like, you know, are repeatable, things that I'm wearing a ton of. Like, I'll always share that. But there was an instance where I think I had worn the same outfit
Host
three days in a row, me, every day. Which happened especially if you work from home. Like, if it's an outfit that I love and feel good, good. And it's like, jeans, tee, same sweater, three days.
Guest
And I do feel like there's a pressure on, like, people in our position to, like, change it up into, like. Or we put the pressure on ourselves. Maybe it's that. But like, I always am like, switch it up. You know, like, wear something different. Do it different. And I'm like, you know what? No. Like, this outfit I feel so good in. I don't feel like wearing anything else. I wanna wear this again. And I was like, not gonna share it. Cause I was like, you've worn this a few times this week and you already shared it a couple times. Like, who cares about it? You know? And then I was like, you know what? I'm gonna share it. I'm gonna share it. Because it's realistic. It's kind of rooted in why I even started sharing on social media, which are like these very, for lack of a better word, basic outfits that, you know, are realistic, are easy and are the outfits that we're actually wearing. We're actually wearing these outfits for errands, for school pickup, for coffee, for, you know, whatever it is, the grocery store and travel. Like, these are the outfits that we're living in. And yeah, the outfits that we wear that are a little bit more fun, those are always going to be fun to share for inspiration too. But I wanted to kind of come back to my roots a little bit in sharing those in betweeners.
Host
So what were some of the in betweeners, like, for people listening who haven't seen it yet? Like, can you talk us through some of the outfits that really got a great response?
Guest
Totally. So. And it's funny because it's like, in my head, I'm like, I forgot that these are the most beloved outfits. And I wear a lot of certain brands and that's what I'll say kind of shapes my in between outfits. So it's like a lot of Donnie, which is one of my favorite brands, love Donnie. And it's led. It's woman founded and led. And I think that they have such an attention to detail on these cuts and on these silhouettes. And, like, that's why it's so easy to wear these things every day, because they're like, they're made so right and you want to wear them every day. Like, they fit you so well, you know?
Host
What are some of those, like, keepings from Donnie that you love?
Guest
I love. Like, there's a cotton cargo pant that I have in, like, four colors.
Host
I've seen you wear those a lot. They look so good on you. They're a little bit of a barrel, right?
Guest
No, they're. They're straight.
Host
They're straight. Maybe I've just seen you in some great barrels recently.
Guest
They're the best. And like, those are like a pair that I wear so often still here in New York. Makes incredible things for in between outfits. And I wear a lot of, like, their sweat. They have a colors, like, collection within their brand. And it's like they're cotton shirts and sweatshirts, and, like, those are a part of it too. And Donnie also makes, like, great sweatpants. And I think, like, that was another question you had for me, like, what are the sweatpants I'm wearing?
Host
It's.
Guest
It's nine times out of 10, Donnie, like, I love their sweatpants. I love their fleece, love their linen. Like, they just. And they make great track pants. So I'd say, like, for all my in between outfits, I'm really wearing a lot of certain brands. And Clique, too. Clique by Lily Adele. Oh, my God, I love Lily.
Host
She's so wonderful in this.
Guest
So wonderful. And talk about attention to detail. Like, I was even talking to her last week, and I hope she wouldn't mind me saying this, but, like, she was even just describing how she, like, extended a seam on the crotch of something. And, like. Like, it's so. And that's why it's so flattering. And that's why so many people think that they look good, you know, and that's the difference, like, that attention to detail that a lot of these larger brands are really missing. And. And also, quite frankly, I think that's why, like I was saying earlier, investing in these pieces that you, like, don't think to invest in because you're like, oh, like, maybe I should just, like, get the cheaper version. And I think that there's so many alternatives that you can find that are similar to what I'm talking about. And I don't judge any budget, and I like getting a deal, too. But you will wear these pieces so much. And that's why I think it's really important, because they've been touched by so many hands. There's so much thought behind the fit of things, and that's why they're priced the way that they are, you know, because they're. They're different. Like, the fit is different and it's. And it's made to be so flattering.
Host
One of the biggest things I'll advocate for in a good closet is investing in the everyday pieces.
Guest
Yes.
Host
Obviously, we want to invest in, like, the great dress for a wedding.
Guest
Yes.
Host
But 90% of the times, you're going to live in that pair of Downey clothes.
Guest
Yeah. You're not wearing that dress every day.
Host
And you want those pieces to be flattering because the alternative is wearing something that makes you feel dressed down totally. Where you're like, ugh, this is, like, baggy on me. I feel, like, not put together. I feel sloppy. So it's like, find that pant that, like, hugs you in all the right places and is your perfect everyday pant.
Guest
Yeah. I say that, like, in between outfits for me are, like. I used to use another term. I have a lot of terms on my. On my channels, but I used to say slob chic. And it was like, I would like Dress up a sweatpant, you know, and like, actually like my hair would be in a bun and like I'd look pretty messy, but like, at least I had like a cardigan on with my sweatpants. Like, so it's kind of balancing those things. And like slob chic is like, slob chic is in between outfits, cousin, if you will. So we're kind of, we're kind of marrying all the things together, but really in between outfits is special to me because these outfits that get looked over and passed over by all of us, you know, are just as important, equally as special. And you should feel good every day even if you're going to run an errand. And I kind of realized this. I think it all kind of came at a point where I had left my full time job. At the end of last year. I got dressed almost every day for my full time job. And that is so great for your mental health, to get dressed every day and feel put together, even if it's not, you're not in business casual. But even if you're just dressed and you have some blush on, it works wonders for your mental health. And I think when I stepped out of that role and had to really self start and do it for myself, that's when this was born. Because I was like, okay, how can I make these in between outfits of me working from home more now and, you know, running errands and still feeling like I have purpose and still feeling like I feel put together. That's where I, I kind of got the idea for it all.
Host
It's funny, I remember I redid my closet a year ago with one of my dear friends who's a stylist, and he asked me to put together a mood board of things that I was loving. The entire mood board was so dressed up like trousers and heels and all these things, because that's kind of what I could find on the Internet, obviously. And I think this is like one of the biggest problems with like outfit inspiration, I think in the world right now. It's like Instagram's a highlight, highlight reel. People wanna shoot their best outfits and the best things. But I think it's very challenging to find people like you who are sharing those kind of in between moments.
Guest
Totally. Pinterest is hard sometimes because I feel like it's a lot of repeat, like everyone's saving the same stuff and you wanna feel like it's a little bit more unique. But I found that it's doing inventory on yourself too really helps. And like looking back at your own stuff.
Host
So, like, deep dive into that a little bit because you do have another series called Gaps in the Closet.
Guest
And this is a perfect segue.
Host
This is the inventory on yourself I think is so important.
Guest
Yes.
Host
I'm a big believer in, like, we spend so much time scrolling the Internet. Like, take that hour away and like, spend it on your closet. It will, it will just benefit you so much in how you get dressed every day. I think a lot of people try to get dressed and find their personal style in the 30 minutes before they have to leave to the office. And I think you have to commit to feeling good the same way we commit to going to the gym.
Guest
Yeah, I do feel like for gaps in the closet, that kind of came to be because I was getting dressed in these moments, like in these panic moments, like getting dressed, like leaving in five minutes, and I'm like, I don't have a black pump. I don't just have a black pump. I didn't have a fricking black leather pump, like, for all these years. I'm 30 years old. I'm like, okay, it's time, you know, you can. You'll buy 10 jackets on Etsy. Like, you know, I'm like, let's buy a black pump, baby. You know? So I think it's just like these things that are, like, super fun to buy, that don't, like, feel super unique and cool. We kind of avoid a little bit. So I was being very avoidant on a lot of things. So I started to clock pieces that I was like, you need X, you need Y. Like, what are we doing here? So then I went really old school analog and I got out a pen and paper and I was like, we're actually gonna go through. I was kind of like a stylist to myself and I was like, let's go through this rack in all my closet and let's see what I'm actually missing. And I could send you a photo of, like, my actual list that I actually jotted down and I shared it on Substack and Instagram and. And it was literally just like a bullet pointed list of what I'm missing, you know, And I like to do this now seasonally because I think that the gaps vary and there's priorities. Right? So I felt like I had a priority to get a couple pumps and have those. And then there was like, more seasonally. I go to Chicago and New York a lot. I don't have a, a jacket that is warm. I don't have a. I don't have a warm jacket. The idea behind it all is just going through your closet, you know, seeing what you need. And that really is kind of what I. What. What shapes what I'm looking for and what I'm shopping for. It's like, that feels inspiring to me. And to have that in. In your mind with that intention, you avoid impulse buying big time. Like, that was a huge thing for me. I'm like, I'm buying all the wrong stuff. I'm like, this is not stuff that I'm wearing. This is not stuff that I need. And, like, who wants to just be, like, wasting money like that?
Host
No. Every time I go to buy something now, I'm like, do I actually need that?
Guest
Yes.
Host
Or do I need the thing that's on my list?
Guest
Totally. And it helped with replacements, which I don't think a lot of us talk about. There are things in your closet that are great that you're not wearing that you think you have covered in a category, but you don't because you actually need something very similar to it that has a few different tweaks that isn't that. And you're gonna wear it way more, and it's not collecting dust.
Host
The replacement category haunts me.
Guest
Replacement category.
Host
It's a real category.
Guest
It is.
Host
Literally, when I did this closet cleaning up, we're hoarders. I was hoarding all of these things. Yeah, we're hoarders. I was like, oh, it's a great black jacket. And my friend was like, but are you wearing it? And I was like, honestly, no.
Guest
No. You don't reach for it? Nope. Let's find you the black jacket that you're gonna wear, right? No. And I realized a lot of this too. I realized, like, with my signature style, like, in figuring that out, like, I love cotton. I love cotton jackets. I love cotton pants. I love cotton suits. And I'm like, that's what we need more of. That's what you're wearing. So, like, let's. Let's keep that in mind when you're making these purchases, you know? So that has really, really helped, I feel like, with informing my shopping and keeping me inspired. And also, you know, there's brands that I love in a very holistic way. So what that means is in their collection, I could see myself wearing every look in the collection. And you can't say that about a lot of brands. Like, so find those brands where you feel like every single look is something you would wear. Right. And then back up a little bit. Now let's look at each of these looks and each of these pieces in their new ready to wear collection. And let's look at your gaps in your closet, and let's intentionally place these things. Let's invest in these brands that you want to invest in and bring them in in a way that feels natural but also feels helpful. And like, you have a gap. Let's fill it with the brand that you're obsessed with that you want to wear so badly. That's been a really nice practice for all of these wonderful brands that I love that are just doing so great, and, I don't know, it's helped me with my shopping addiction.
Host
Let's get into some of those, because I do feel like you have so many great wrecks that I kind of want to go lightning round through some great, great building. Your wardrobe question.
Guest
Yes.
Host
Okay. What are some things you would have in your closet always, no matter what?
Guest
Always, no matter what. I think I've said this, and I'm beating a dead horse. Vintage Levi's. Always, no matter what. Like, the cornerstone of my closet, for sure. And now I would say my tees and ballet flats. Flip flops.
Host
Where are your ballet flats from?
Guest
I wear these pair of Jamie Haller ballet flats literally every day. I've had them resold two times. I need her to re. Re. I need her to reissue them. They're amazing, but they're like these white cream ballet flats. Now, you can get white cream leather ballet flats basically anywhere. But they have changed my life. I used to be a pretty much sneaker exclusive.
Host
Same girl. And then the world changed, and then
Guest
the world flipped upside down, and now I literally only wear these.
Host
Let's talk bottoms. Go to pants right now. Favorite track pants. Favorite sweatpants.
Guest
Yes. Kind of got into this too already, but Donnie makes my favorite track pants sweatpants. Their fleece is amazing.
Host
Everything.
Guest
Everything.
Host
All right.
Guest
And then in terms of, like, other pants that are interesting, I think the still here sport jeans are, like, everything. They just, like, bring something different to the everyday denim. You know, I wear vintage Levi's every day, but, like, the sport jeans just keep it a little more special. And then the click. Tommy pants. Oh, my God.
Host
You are someone who makes a tracksuit look impeccably chic.
Guest
Oh, wow.
Host
How are you doing that? Where are you getting some of your tracksuits from?
Guest
Okay, so. Oh, my God. I'm, like, going to say this again. I'm really plugging Donnie and still here. Got it. That's. That's it. That's all you need to know.
Host
By the way, you're following your own advice. You have found the brands that work.
Guest
Yeah, that's it. I. I stick to what I know. And. And that's why I wholeheartedly recommend doing this.
Host
Yeah.
Guest
Yes. And, like, and the pieces that I stand by, like, I wear them daily.
Host
I could never see myself wearing track pants.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
How could I elevate them?
Guest
Oh, with ballet flat.
Host
Love that.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Like an Adidas track pant.
Guest
So tell me.
Host
Tell me the parameters here for track pants. Yeah.
Guest
I actually have a photo that I'm thinking of, and I wore it recently. It's a pair of Donny track pants. They literally look like they're straight out of, like, 2005. Like, my mom would have worn them. And I actually wore. I've been wearing them with my Imaguas neoprene ballet flats. And I got those because these feel, like, a little bit more elevated. They're leather. I wanted a pair of, like, very casual ballet flats. Like, almost like the flip flop adjacent in casualness. Those are them. Like, they're neoprene. They're like. They look like swim shoes, and they're just. They're like sweat. They're like wetsuit material. So, like, wearing those with a track pant works. Works. Yeah.
Host
Okay. I know that you talked earlier. You don't like shorts.
Guest
Yes.
Host
But you said you like long shorts.
Guest
I do.
Host
So tell me where you're getting long shorts from and what is your, like, short ethos for the summer.
Guest
Yes. So I love the cool. The cool shorts from Still Here. They're wonderful. Wear them really low.
Host
I love your consistency.
Guest
Oh, I'm so consistent.
Host
I think it's amazing and it's actually inspiring me to do, like, an audit of the brand. I really love and commit.
Guest
Yes.
Host
I'm loving it.
Guest
I love those. And I do love. There's a couple other ones that I think I could recommend. We need to talk about Chan Liu. But also, like, the Chan Liu, like, taffeta pants.
Host
So good. Those pink ones are so cute.
Guest
The Chanlu taffeta pants are a staple, and their shorts are really cute too. So I love those as well.
Host
Chan Liu. I find that there are some brands that, like, defrost in the summer, and they're particularly perfect for summer. Like, Chan Liu is one of them.
Guest
Let me. I could talk about Chanlu.
Host
Cedra's is one of them. Yes. Gamma Guastami. Is that how you say it? Yeah. Yes. Or like, those brands. Summer brands.
Guest
Yes.
Host
Tay Park. Like, these are brands that thrive in the summer. Go to Bag. What are you wearing every day?
Guest
Oh, okay. This might shock you. So I've learned. And you have to be, I think, a big part of all these practices. And this is a realization I've had with my closet. Gaps in between outfits. Got to be honest with myself. And you know what? You know what I like wearing every day? A canvas or a nylon bag. Wow. I don't like wearing a leather, nice $10,000 shoulder bag. I love having that bag maybe one day, but I don't like wearing it every day.
Host
Are you buying the canvas bag, or are you using it from a store that you got it from?
Guest
I'm buying, like, I like my. I brought it today. I should grab it. It's my Hermes vintage canvas bag. It's like the little.
Host
We're talking about two different things here. I think you're talking about an aloe canvas bag.
Guest
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Host
Okay.
Guest
It's like. But they're so well priced. Like, it's under $300 on the RealReal. It's like a canvas beautiful bag. I also love, kind of in tandem with this Herve Chevalier. It's like a Paris throwback. They make really cute nylon bags. Love their bags. I was wearing that one every day, and I was like, okay, I need to get something different, a little bit bigger. So this is what I got. And I have the medium size in this. That's what I wear every day. That's my everyday basket or a basket. Jane Birkin.
Host
There you go. Very Jane Birkin. Very, very, like la.
Guest
Laid back on underwater weaving.
Host
Yep.
Guest
Baskets every day.
Host
Okay. As an LA gal, where are you shopping? What are your favorite places to get the best things?
Guest
Well, we have such great shopping in la. I actually just did an LA shopping guide on Substack, which is exciting. I gave all my faves, but off the top of my head, rlt, obviously, I'm obsessed with. I love, like, women's boutiques. Mohawk in Silver Lake.
Host
Great.
Guest
Just the incredible beau, who's the owner. She is so impressive. She curates to the gods, like, really, really great brands. And they have, like, a really nice range of price point. I mean, they sell the road there, right? But they also sell Lima Guass and like, Paloma wool and great other brands, too. Tibby. Oh, my God, Tibby. I could talk about Tibby all day, too.
Host
Love Tibby.
Guest
Tibby's like a great in between outfit brand. And then, like, I love Teller and Wright. Wright's is in Manhattan Beach. Teller's in Culver City at the platform. The Platform's like a great little destination to go shop at for vintage. I love the dig in Venice.
Host
So good. Best jeans.
Guest
That guy can look at you and he just throws you a pair.
Host
And, like, it's actually intimidating.
Guest
It's so intimidating in the best way.
Host
I'm like, just trust me. Tell me what to do.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
And I leave with like, six.
Guest
Yeah. He throws you them, and then, like, they fit wonderfully. I recommend going during the week. I also love RLT's denim, as we know, and other other vintage Arcade. Oh, Arcade is wonderful. Downtown la. I love Scout too. And Recess.
Host
Oh, Recess is amazing.
Guest
Recess is amazing.
Host
But, like, really vintage.
Guest
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Host
Like, you're not, like, it's. It's more like costume vintage.
Guest
Yeah, totally.
Host
Does that make sense?
Guest
Yeah, totally, totally.
Host
A lot of costume jewelry.
Guest
Yes. They. I found, like, great statement pieces there for, like, more every day. I think Scout is great. And Arcade, like, oh, my God. Arcade has amazing, like, a venture.

Okay, before we wrap, we have a segment on the show called let's get you dressed. Listeners submit events, trips, anything they have coming up and need an outfit for. And we have our guest help style them.
Guest
Okay.
Host
Someone dropped in and this is something. I feel like I'm getting asked so much right now. I need a different pov.
Guest
Yeah.
Host
Someone said, I am going to a wedding this year. It's in a, like, barn kind of floral situation, east coast vibes. I'm looking for an amazing dress under $500 that I can wear again, that I can wear to this event, but also have in, like, my capsule wardrobe for life.
Guest
Totally.
Host
Where should I look?
Guest
So immediately where my head is going, like, I'm racing. I'm like, where am I? Where are we going? Where are we going?
Host
Shopping.
Guest
I think that there. I think that you could probably find like, a really incredible, almost like a silk chiffon, floral vintage moment, 60s or 70s. And you could use all these search terms on Etsy or plug it into Google, to be honest with you. And it'll spit out like. Like smaller, even smaller vintage curators. D' Vore vintage. D' Vore vintage. I've gotten event wear from before.
Host
How do you spell dvor?
Guest
D, E, V, D, E, V, O, R, E. Okay. They're based in Alabama.
Host
Cool.
Guest
Which is really cool. Do you remember that dress I wore? It was like a gunmetal. Very, very antique.
Host
I don't.
Guest
But I'm like, oh, my God, living for it already. It was sick. And it had, like, tulle and I was halter. It was beautiful. So I think, like, a place like that, or like Farmer's Daughter, they have, like, really, really cool, very vintage, delicate, floral moments.
Host
I've never heard of any of these.
Guest
Yeah. Wow.
Host
So these are just small vintage sellers.
Guest
Small vintage sellers, yeah. And, like, some of them have gotten, like, super big. But I do think. I do think we could find you something super. One of a kind.
Host
Yep.
Guest
Super, as I like to call it. Heirloom worthy. Like, that's. That's me. If I see something, like, I love the. I obviously love, like, the in between too, but there's some things that you come across in your shopping and you're like, that is an heirloom. And, like, that dress that I wore to the event, like, that was an heirloom. It's an heirloom.
Host
And it was so beautiful on you.
Guest
Yes. Thank you.
Host
I think if you're going to a wedding and it's like, in a barn garden situation, go for florals.
Guest
Yeah, go for a floral.
Host
Like, I think you'll feel really good about it. But I love the advice of finding silk chiffon is crucial.
Guest
Crucial.
Host
