Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of let's Get Dressed. It's your host Liv Perez. We are back with mine and clearly your guys favorite series of the podcast and that is my quarterly roundup of all the things that we need for the new season ahead. I am freshly back from New York with so much to share. I feel like every time I'm in New York I get so much style inspiration and obviously a very, very full camera roll in, especially post Fashion Week. So I feel like there are some very clear winners and things that we should be including in our closet this season and I can't wait to share them back with you. There were so many great shows this season. Tory Burch, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and also some really fun trends that not only looked good on the Runway but also are incredibly wearable. I feel like this season, more than any other one I've ever seen, felt the most relatable to our everyday wardrobe. So it's if you are looking for some good style inspiration for the fall, you've come to the right place before we dive in. So many gifts for you guys because I'm so grateful you're all here. Also on that note, I do have to say every time I get to go to Fashion Week and go to amazing shows and cover things, it feels really in part to all of you. So thank you so much for being here today and thank you for letting me live my dream job. Last week in New York was so much fun. Had such a great week, went to a few shows, did the Today show and I also just have to give a quick shout out to the episodes that we released while I was in New York. I'm really proud of them and I feel like they gave such great on the ground coverage of what was going on during New York Fashion Week while also highlighting some really great names and up and comers in the fashion industry. Our first episode was titled Live from New York and it was me and a really good friend of mine who also happens to be on my team. She's my social media strategist and we just gabbed for like literally two hours. I had to turn off the microphone at some point. We sat in my hotel room, ordered food and talked about all of the cool things that we've seen in fashion lately. I am obsessed with her mind. I've been working with her for two years now and not only is she a fashion girl, but she's also someone of course because of her job. She is so in tune of what's working on social media right now. Really cool partnerships and just kind of giving a high level scope of cool things that happened during New York Fashion Week. So I loved talking with her. Her name's Lydia Berry. Definitely go check that episode out if you love marketing fashion and just want to hear more about what it's like to go to New York Fashion Week. And then last week's episode was with Daniela Kalmier, who is the designer of her namesake label, Kalmire. I got to interview her right after her New York Fashion Week show and also fresh off of a CFDA nomination for Women's Wear Designer of the Year. So I was very proud of that episode. Very proud to be shining a light on a designer who I Absolutely love. And someone who I think is doing great things in the fashion industry right now. So go check those out. They were really fun to record, and I'm excited to be able to get you guys that on the ground in the moment coverage as much as I can in the future. Last week was the first week of fall, which I found hysterical because I was literally recording this from an 80 degree day in Los Angeles. I am literally turning the air conditioning on in my house right now just to put a sweater on and feel something. I'm also someone who, like, runs really cold, so I'm always in knitwear anyways, even when it's this hot outside. But I will say I'm itching for fall clothes. I'm looking at my, like, wardrobe of jackets, and I'm like, oh, gosh. I actually, like, don't even know where to begin with those. I feel like I haven't styled them in a minute. They've just kind of been sitting there. I'm so excited to wear them. I'm excited for layers and accessories and boots. Like, guys, I miss my boots. I can't wait to put them on. So today we are diving into all of the incredible things to look forward to. The moments that I'm inspired by from Fashion Week and how we can bring them into our everyday wardrobe and some really fun trends that we can all play around with this season. I'm going to kick this episode off with color, because I feel like that's always a question I get asked so frequently. It's what's the color of the season? I wouldn't say that there was one prominent color. I saw a lot of jewel tones, which we always love for fall. It's great, it's romantic. But I will say, if there was one color that I saw pop up most in a very unconventional way, it would be red. Bright cherry red. And I will say, as we get closer to the holidays, red always, like, finds its way onto my feed into, like, the general consciousness of fashion. But what I loved most about this season is that red was not the whole look, but. But this really great feature to an outfit that just gave it, like, an extra oomph. I kind of always roll my eyes a little bit when I hear red is trending, because to me, it's just that, like, forever power color. It's that dress I reach for when I want to feel really, really good and make a statement. But I also love how it has become more of a wearable, everyday color. I feel like red has always gotten a bad Rep. Like, I've always heard that saying, you can't wear red to a wedding. Or when I was growing up, I was not allowed to have red nails. It was like, not allow until I think I was maybe in, like, later high school. So I love seeing it brought into our wardrobe in really wearable ways. For example, I would see it on the runways in really small details like a waistband or a bow or a pair of shoes at Tory Burch. First of all, the Tory Burch show shoes this season were so it. I cannot wait for them to come out. They were a lot of, like, pointed toe ballet flats with really great, like, gold metal details on the front. And then they were also, like, sewn embellished flats. I cannot wait for those to come out. They're gonna be so great. One of my favorite shows of the week was Dima, which is a brand by Rachel Scott, who is also now the creative director of Parenza Schooler. So she had double duty during New York Fashion Week, and I loved both shows. But her spring summer collection for Dima truly took my breath away. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend going on Vogue Runway and checking it out.

It was just every look was so beautiful. There was one dress that particularly took my breath away. It was a long sleeve black gown with a bright red waistband, and it was just so, so, so, so, so stunning. And I loved the use of red in that moment. It wasn't the whole dress, but it added this, like, pop, this accent, this power color that really made the whole look. I personally wore red. I wore this red button down to the cost show, which is, if you guys listened to the episode that I mentioned with Lydia, I did mention that I went saw Chris Briney. It was a dream day for me. But I wore this, like, really beautiful brick red button down, and I've been styling it a lot lately. I styled it to the show with a leather midi skirt, and I loved it. Tucked in, but pretty unbuttoned. I had a white tank on underneath, and I really loved that layer, especially for fall as we go into cooler weather. That coster is so well made. It's under $150. I'm really into button downs right now. I feel like for those days where I literally have no idea what to wear and feel chaotic on the inside, the best way to feel put together is by wearing a button down because it just looks so nice and elegant and elevated. I've really been working on my button down collection lately. I'm. I Have the goal to have one in every color if you're looking for a good red flat. I have mentioned these flats so many times, but they are such a good dupe for a lot of more expensive pointed toe flats that I see out in the world right now. They're from Mark Fisher, and I actually see them on sale right now. They're under $60. They are such a good dupe. Pointed toe, a little bit of a block heel on the end, and something you will wear all the time. I really like red shoes paired with something minimal. Like pair it with black and white, pair it with jeans, and, like, a black sweater. I like it when it kind of adds the pop to a very minimal outfit. I'll put some more red shoe ideas in the fall edit for you guys as well. The next piece is something that I saw not on the runways, but literally all over street style. I saw so many friends wearing it, so many editors, and that is lace. And I know that lace is usually something that we, like, wear in the summer, right? Like little lace shorts, lace camisole. But I love seeing it translate into fall dressing. I saw so many people on the streets of New York wearing lace with really big leather jackets. Like, I walked out of my hotel one day, and I saw this girl wearing a white lace midi skirt. It had, like, a lace trim, and she had this, like, gorgeous camel cropped funnel neck leather jacket with it and a pair of pumps, and I absolutely loved it. I felt like it was quintessential transitional season dressing. It was a little bit of a summer vibe and a little bit of a fall vibe, but I loved how romantic it felt. I also love pairing lace with something more structured, like a trench coat or a big leather jacket, because that contrast of fabrics, to me, is really, really interesting and kind of a bold choice. Now, I did show a lace look on the Today show, and Craig Melvin, who's a Today show host, said to me, isn't lace for the bedroom. And while yes, it can be used in the bedroom, I will say that I'm seeing it now on the streets in fashion more than ever. And I think it's what you pair it with that grounds it in reality. I really love this lace halter top that I have from Zara. I've been pairing it with my totem trousers, and just having a tailored pair of trousers with it really dresses it up. So lean into those tailored pieces in your closet, like the trench, like a pair of good slacks, because then you can take it from the sheets to the streets, you know, I'm here for lace. I love it. I also love the idea that we're taking pieces that are known for a certain season and making them year round. You know, I'm someone who really likes that. Even though here we are talking about seasonal dressing, I think the more use that we can get out of our closets, the better. I'm really liking what Zara is doing right now in terms of lace. I think there's an edginess to it. The shirt that I have is like a halter asymmetrical top, and I think that shape and the construction of it makes it feel elevated and not just a simple camisole that you would wear to sleep. Moving on to accessories. There was a very clear main character of New York Fashion Week this season, and that was a statement necklace. I feel like we've been seeing a lot of chunky necklaces, a lot of lariats coming back in a bold way. And this season definitely cemented its place in the current fashion zeitgeist. I saw them everywhere. Tory Burch had some really great ones. Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors. All of the big shows featured some sort of a statement necklace. I love them when you can create a canvas for it. So, for example, a polo button down, a V neck sweater, a button down shirt. I like when there's a little bit of framing from the clothes around the necklace. I've never really loved when I'm wearing just a simple white tee and a long statement necklace, because you're not really giving that statement necklace the room to shine. I just had a subscriber on substack actually message me in the subscriber only channel.

And.

And they sent me this really beautiful Chan Liu set that they got. It was a white skirt with a matching white tank. And the white tank was simple. It was like a blank canvas was meant to match and kind of go over the skirt. And she bought this long necklace with it, and she was like, liv, I'm having a really hard time styling this. It just doesn't look right. Like, it feels really plain and there's too much space. And I actually said to her, it's because that tank has no shape to it. There's no V to it. There's no elements that kind of let that necklace sing. So my recommendation was to throw a matching white blazer over it and then layer the necklace so at least there is some shape around the necklace that gives it its moment to shine. Those blazer lapels will perfectly frame a statement necklace. So I would really think about that. As you're banning to include them in your wardrobe. And personally, there are some great brands out there like agmes, agmes, Aggies that I think make great statement necklaces. But my go to is always going to be vintage. I was scrolling the Realreal and Vestiere last week and saw some incredible vintage ones from Tiffany's and so much more and at great prices. They were all in the 300 to 400 and less range. So I recommend going vintage, getting something old and giving it a new life. And of course also it's a really good story. Moving on, let's go to the shoe department. I have never gotten so many DMs for fall fashion so early in the year. There were so many of you messaging me saying, liv, what are the boots that we're wearing for fall in like early August, guys, like, you guys are ready over summer dressing ready to go into fall. And I actually posted about it on my Instagram and I got so many responses saying like, yes, I'm over it. Give me sweaters. So like, I can't imagine how you guys feel now because that was like over a month, almost two months ago. So here I am now, two months later, in the thick of the beginning of fall to give you guys my definitive fall shoe guide. For starters, another reason to subscribe to my substack. Because last week my substack got a fall boot guide with options for every boot style. We're talking Chelsea boot, ankle boot, knee high boot, knee high heel, all the good ones and at every price range from H and M to Hermes and Ralph Lauren. Just another shameless plug for you guys for my substack. But I'm a believer that everybody should have four boots in their closet. A Chelsea boot, which is a flat, everyday classic that you can wear to work and beyond, a low heel boot, high heel, ankle boot, and a knee high boot. I think this can get you everywhere you ever need to go and you'll have a boot for every occasion. But also your boot should be very indicative of your personal style. Like, I'm not someone who wears a lot of chunky shoes, so all of my boots are pretty slim, pointed toe, very paired back because those are the proportions that I like with my style. My low heel boots easily replace my pointed toe flats when it gets colder out. And my Chelsea boots honestly feel like my sneaker replacement for when I need a little bit more warmth. So make sure you're getting something that is in your style already and should feel like they're seamless integrations to your outfits. If you Know me and you followed me for a while. You know that I have an alliance to the stud Wally boot, not a paid alliance. This is a genuine love alliance. For this boot. I have the low heel ankle boot in two colors and I have the knee high low boot as well. And I absolutely love it. They've come out with a lot of good new colors this season and a flat knee high riding boot as well. And I will probably get that for myself too. I have to say, for the price range that it's in, which is under $500, not only is the quality amazing, the leather is amazing, but the comfort is so, so, so there. I have worn those heeled boots all over New York City and felt so good and so supported and never like my feet were hurting. It's the Staad Wally boot. I just got them in a beautiful suede brown and I'm just waiting for it to not be 80 degrees to wear them. Also, I did get an incredible pair of riding boots from the RealReal. A pair of Chanel classic black riding boots that I'm also waiting to wear. I've been on a big realreal kick lately. I feel like I've been finding so many good pieces on there. So you'll see me break those out very soon. I feel like riding boots have kind of had a moment in the last like two or three years. It's very like Princess Diana tucked into jeans vibes. And I love them because they're comfortable. They look great for a day of errands with leggings and like a big oversized sweater, but still dressed up because you're wearing a nice boot. Do not come for me, please, as I say this, but a knee high boot is the only time, and I mean the only time I will ever condone a skinny jean. Tuck them into the boot and it looks really great. But besides that, I'm not a skinny jean gal. But if you do have a pair for your boots, we're aligned. Okay, moving on. The next two are ones that we have featured every year on our fall edit and that is because they are fall classics. And the first one is a trench coat. First of all, I think a trench coat's year round. Believe it or not, I actually travel in the summer with a trench coat. The airports are cold. I love the pockets. I love that if I'm feeling terrible, I can just tie the belt around my waist and look really elegant and put together. It's also so thin. I mean, I remember I was in Paris with my mom three years ago and we had gone out for dinner one night and I was cold. I wore a mini dress and a trench coat and looked great. So I think if you don't have a good one in your closet, now's the time to buy it. You'll get a ton of use of it in the fall, but I promise you, you will wear it year round. My go to trench was an investment trench. It is from a brand called Mimchik and I love the construction. I also think that when it comes to trench coats, the color of the trench is everything. If you again follow my substack, you know that I recently dove into my color season, which I really didn't believe a lot of before but now am like kind of loyal to. If you saw my feed during New York Fashion Week, there was a very clear color story that I leaned into because I wanted to test and see if those colors worked on me and they very much did. Trench coats really fall into this category because most of them are khaki, which is not the most flattering color on everybody. A true, like cool khaki actually really washes me out. So I go for a trench coat that's either a little bit more yellow or a little bit more olivey green. My Mimchik one is a little bit more yellow and I love the way it looks with my brown hair. So if you haven't done your color season yet, I actually did mine via ChatGPT. I asked it to assess my color season. I took a selfie in nice light with no makeup and it actually gave me a whole guide on what colors I should be wearing and shouldn't be wearing. And it gave me a very new outlook on how I get dressed every day. So I recommend that in general, but especially if you are going into buying a trench coat. Other trench coats that I love and have been tried and true for me. Gap has the icon trench, which is under $200 and is so great, so good, truly. That was the one that I traveled with with my mom in Europe a few summers ago and I still have it. And ALC also makes a really great trench as well. It's not long, which I like. It's about mid calf. So if you are someone who is on the shorter end and doesn't want something too long, that's a great one. Trenches are crucial. Highly recommend. And if there's anything I would say on this list that's most important, it would be the trench. The next one, which is another fall classic, is your choice of denim for the season. I Am such a big fan of dark wash denim for fall. I think if you are itching to start moving your closet over into fall, it is the first place that you should start. Not only does dark denim add a different texture to your outfits, but it also like oozes that fall sophistication to me and kind of set the stage for more fall colors. I love dark denim with chocolate browns, maroons, hunter greens and all of those colors that you're probably going to start bringing into your fall wardrobe. And if you're someone who doesn't want to completely switch over your wardrobe, this is just the easiest place to start with something you probably already have in your closet. I always want to of course give you guys recommendations based on what's going on in the industry, but I also want you to utilize what you already have in your closet. I actually got a pair not to shout out Gap again but they have so many good closet classics. I actually got a pair of Gap jeans last year that are dark wash that I wear all the time. They are so comfortable, literally like just butter. They're the jeans that I throw on when I'm working from home and I just like can't be in something tight or uncomfortable. They're the gap mid rise 90s low loose Jean. They fit like right at the belly button. Really right at the belly button. They're a straight wash and are just so casual and so comfortable under $70 which is so great too. And if you end up loving that fit, they actually have it in a bunch of other washes as well. So that is one of my favorite jeans. I've actually worn these on a plane a bunch and I'm not usually a denim girly on planes. My other two loves the Reformation Val Jean which if you follow me on Instagram you've seen me post a dozen plus times. This is just such a great kind of dupe to the Levi's 901 Jean. High waisted, long straight and I have it in just that classic blue. But I also have it in a dark wash denim and love them as well. And if you're going to splurge, everybody says the Kate Danielle jeans are incredible. I haven't tried them because I am actually debating if I'm a high waisted girl. I1 don't like them for comfort but because I'm also someone with a short torso I've been told that it makes me it can accentuate that. So I think I'm going to lean into more mid rise and low rise styles which I'm thrilled about because I love the comfort of a low rise. But I have heard incredible things about the Kate Danielle jean. If you are someone who wants to Invest, they're around $600, I think. But I've heard they're an incredible, unbeatable jean. To me, that trench coat and a dark wash denim feels like your fall uniform. Like it's something that you're just going to wear all the time, whether it's with a tee or a SWE sweater, a sweater around your shoulders. To me, that's really what my go to is when it starts to get chilly outside. Okay, moving on. I feel like we have to talk about suede because it's the thing that comes back in full force every time fall rolls around. I will say I really enjoyed seeing suede persevere, like, year round. I feel like I saw so many suede bags this summer. And again, as I mentioned earlier, I love when we extend the shelf life of things in our closet and make everything a little bit less seasonal. Like, I want to find ways to wear things year round to get the most use out of our closets. But of course, we have to talk about suede. Suede to me, feels like that fabric that's perfect for fall because it's a great texture. It's great for layering, and it really adds that richness to any outfit you're putting on. You could wear jeans and a white tee and a suede jacket and just look so great and so fall inspired. This was also something that I featured on the Today show. And one of my favorite items in the entire segment was this suede jacket from H and M that is under $100 and is so good. Not only is the cut good, like it fits really well, right? It's not this, like, oversized, baggy jacket. It's a great crop. But the color and the suede are also amazing. I love that it's under $100 and is something that everybody could have in their closet. I paired it on the show with black trousers because our model was, quote, unquote, going to the office. And a beautiful silk white button down underneath. It really framed beautifully under the suede jacket. And I loved that look. It's something that you guys could wear to the office. It's something you could wear to drinks. It's something you can wear to a meeting. It's just so classic and so beautiful. I will say suede can get really tricky because it's definitely inexpensive material. It's hard to find things under a hundred, so When I found that H&M1 and approved it in person, I was very, very pleased. If you are looking to splurge a little bit, there is one brand that I think makes some of the best well priced outerwear on the market right now, and that is Noor Hamore. N o u r Space H a M M O u r I've been wearing their jackets for years and have tried pretty much everything in their collection. And I will say the quality that you're getting with those jackets feels really on brand with what you would get at some of the big designers today that are charging between 4 to $5,000 for the same jackets. I have a long leather trench from them, I have a few bomber jackets and I truly love every single thing that they make. But of course, I just gave you guys two insanely different price ranges. So in the fall edit, I'll make sure to give you guys a few in the middle as well. While we're talking about jackets, a question that I've been getting asked a ton lately is what jacket are we wearing over wedding guest dresses when we're at a wedding? I actually went to a wedding in New Zealand last winter and test drove quite a few different options. I brought a shawl, which I think is always a really good option, especially if you're going to one where you're not going to be outside, you don't want to carry a full jacket and you just need something a little bit light. I actually will go on Amazon and try to find a shawl that is similar in color to my dress. So to that New Zealand wedding, I wore a pink dress and matched it with like a bubblegum pink shawl. And it was truly so beautiful. Was one of my favorite outfits I've ever worn. So that's a really good tip. But if you are in a bit cooler weather and you want a jacket, I really recommend a suiting coat. They're different than a normal coat because usually they will have a beautiful structured lapel and be a bit more tailored to the body. And I love the way it looks paired over a gown. It doesn't drag it down, it really elevates it and makes it feel intentional, which I think is really important with outerwear over formal wear. Last year, when I was kind of in a time crunch for this wedding, I found one on Revolve from their brand called Eves and it's on sale right now. I highly recommend it. It actually ended up being the coat that I wore most last season as well because I loved it paired with just everyday outfits as well. I will say with the suiting coat, you're usually going to find things that are a bit thinner and not as warm. Again, this is meant to feel like a suit jacket, but just long. So I wouldn't expect it to carry you through very, very cold, cold, cold weathers. But it's great for those evenings where you're not going to be outside the whole time. Okay, home stretch, guys. Last two. Back to shoes. Let's talk about the loafer of the season. I love a loafer for fall because it is that in between, between a sneaker and a boot. If you're not ready to be putting on your full boots yet, you want something a little bit more casual, comfortable, laid back, the loafer is your best friend. I specifically love a rouged loafer. That ruching adds kind of like a modern Saint Laurenti feel. And I feel like this is a great kind of sharp left from the chunky loafers that we were seeing a few years ago. I never really liked how they looked on me. One, they felt so heavy, but also because I'm five' four, it disproportionately didn't really make sense. I love these, like, slimmer loafers because they're comfortable. They're something you can wear to the office, but still looks sleek enough that you can wear it to a dinner at night. I have been wearing a pair of, like, dark chocolate brown ones from Jenny Kane for a really long time. The quality is amazing and they're actually really comfortable. I wore them all over New York last November, and I also wore them walking a full day in Tokyo, which is probably shocking. I wore them with kind of a thicker sock, so I was protected. And I think I had some band aids on too, just for extra protection. But I was really comfortable in them and loved the way that they look. I think the most popular pair that apparently is sold out all the time right now are the ones from the row. They're the soft leather flat loafers, and they're so beautiful. I've seen them in person and those are incredibly comfortable. But of course, a really big splurge. The ones that I have are about $600 from Jenny Kane, but I also know that Tony Bianco makes a very similar pair for under $200. What I love about these is they feel a bit more lived in. They feel like borrowed from the boys. And I love them paired with, like, chunky socks and your dark wash denim. It's very sleek, it's very minimal, and that's Kind of a trend that I'm seeing in shoes right now. We've been talking a lot about these, like, paired back sneakers and like, paired back loafers. And I think it's just not. We're not in a season where it's about the shoes. Like, the shoes aren't sparkly and bold and bright and funky. They are more practical and more for every day and more for us getting around the city and going from meetings to work to drinks. They're comfortable and go with everything. And I'm very here for that. Shoe era. Okay, last but not least, let's end on a fun note and something that I saw a lot of last year and I love to see carrying into this year, and that's fringe. I saw it everywhere in New York from Michael Kors to Brandon Maxwell. So many designers were bringing in this, like, delicate threading to kind of give this essence of like, chic, effortless, windswept dressing. I think fringe has become synonymous with this very, like, chic, effortless, but also very intentional era that we're in with dressing right now. And I think what I loved most about, as I said in the beginning of this episode about this fashion week was that everything felt really wearable and a lot of people were like, wow, minimalism. Like everything's minimal. But I wouldn't say it's minimal. I would just say it's incredibly practical. To me, so much of the ethos of what's going on in fashion right now is things that we can wear every day but also show a little bit of personality with. It's not quiet luxury, it's not maximalism, but it's something right in the middle that feels very unique to our own personal styles. I recently another realreal score. I got a Bottega Veneta knit fringe skirt that is actually on sale right now for quadruple the price. And I got it for a steal on the RealReal and I wore it in Mexico with a tank top, but I also cannot wait to wear it in the fall with a knee high boot and that suit and coat I was telling you about. I think when we think of fringe, we think of maybe western aesthetics, like leather fringe and something that's thick and really bold. But what I've loved about fringe over the last year is that it's a little bit more delicate than that. It's like a mistake almost.
