Hi everyone. Welcome back to another episode of let's Get Dressed. It's your host, Liv Perez. I hope you're all having a great start to your week. I'm so excited that you're here for another segment of the debrief. In case you missed it, the last week of every month is going to be dedicated to just us. So one on one, catch up where I share with you guys a few highlights from the month, some fashion news, and I also share some of the best questions that I think have come through on my Instagram. Ask me anythings. Every Saturday morning I post an AMA box and a lot of you have been able to submit questions in there. And although I try to get to as many as I can while I'm on Instagram, I save the best for you guys. So we'll get to a few of those in a little bit. It has been a thrilling week to say the least. I'm recording this Thursday in LA and a lot has happened. I feel like I lived the entire month in this one week. I flew to New York on Monday to host a segment on the Today show all about summer style. So much fun. Truly best part of my job. And we'll get into that a little bit later in the episode. On Tuesday I prepped, we did a rehearsal and I recorded a few podcasts in the city. Wednesday morning I was live on the Today show. Did the segment at the same time that my sister in law went into labor with her baby here in Los Angeles. So I did the show, went to the airport right after, came home and we welcomed a new niece, Alex and I's fourth niece. She's also my neighbor. So I have a new niece, I have a new neighbor and I am over the moon excited to just spend the summer sniffing this baby's head because if you have ever had a newborn in your life you knew that that smell is like addicting and it's so cute and I am just thrilled for her parents Thrilled for the family and I'm just excited to add another cutie pie to the bunch. So that was really, really exciting to come home to. Late Wednesday night, Thursday morning, woke up super early because the one and only Elise Walker came on the podcast. Elise is truly a force of nature. Getting to sit down and chat with her was so moving, so inspiring. Elise lost her flagship location in Los Angeles during the LA fires and and has been so resilient through that. She just announced that she is opening next year back in the Palisades with Rick, Rick Caruso, which is such exciting news. The two of us really talked about our experiences with the fire. My mom also lost her house and as someone who was directly impacted by it, I have to say seeing her announce that she was going to reopen in the Palisades completely shifted so much for me. It really, for the first time felt like light at the end of the tunnel because I think a lot of people have a lot of fears about being back there. A lot of people haven't been able to go to their homes yet. So having her kind of put her stamp on it and say, we're coming back, we're going to be here and it's going to be amazing is so hopeful and so powerful. So I loved getting to chat with her. She also shared about how she's working with Altadena on some of the lessons that she's learning through her journey of rebuilding. So it's just a beautiful story all around. And I also have to say, like, she is unstoppable. Like, think about all the third party retail stores that have survived since the early 2000s. Elise had her first store in 1999. Barney's is gone. Kitson is gone. Fred Siegel's gone, Ron Herman's gone. All of these stores have not been able to survive, but Elise Walker has. So mark your calendars. It's an amazing episode. It's one of my favorites for sure. And I know you guys are going to love it and learn so much by this point in the week. I am so overstimulated. Thank God. I was getting a decent amount of sleep every night, but my brain had not been able to turn off for four days straight. And so I was starting to get that brain headache of I need to sit down and have a proper meal and just be off my phone for a second. And of course, Elise walks out the door. I sit down on my couch. Keep in mind, this is this morning, but the news of Anna Wintour stepping down as the editor in chief of Vogue Dropped the second I sat on the couch. This is huge news because I feel like for the past few years there's been this moment of circulating news maybe once a year of, is Anna gonna step aside and make room for new talent? Is she tired? All the things and all the narratives that publications wanted to put out there to try to see if she was ever gonna leave, and that never happened. And right now we're in this time where, like, that hasn't even been moment of conversation in fashion at all. I think everybody's been really hung up on designer musical chairs and new collections and all the things. So this came completely out of left field. Apparently she, according to the report, she told her team the day before in an all hands meeting. So everybody was briefed and gave everybody the day before the news officially broke. But I do want to get into the nitty gritty of this a little bit because I think a lot of people saw the news and were like, oh, she's out, she's gone. But we're really just kind of changing titles here. Before we do this, I do need to disclaim that I am recording this on Thursday and I do have a little suspicion that they are going to drop the news of who's going to replace her on Monday. That feels like a very fashion industry thing to do with designer musical chairs. The same thing kind of happened. Like, Jonathan Anderson is out at Loewe, and then like a few days later, he's in at Dior Men's. Like, all of this is really strategically planned and I would not doubt if Conde Nast already has her replacement sitting in the wings. Everybody knows about it and they're just playing into the news cycle and it's going to give us the weekend to speculate. So if the news is already broke, we can giggle about this conversation. But I still want to talk about my thoughts on it and who I think could make a great replacement for her. So let's get into the nitty gritty. For starters, she stepped down as the editor in chief after 37 years. Huge. She has not only shaped Vogue and American fashion, but global fashion as well. She's one of the most influential people in fashion and this is really going to change fashion for the long run. However, she's going to stay on at Conde Nast as their global chief content officer and as the global editorial director at Vogue. So she will still have a huge hand in so much of what we see in fashion and still be a very, very, very relevant figure. She is not stepping aside. This is Just I think the beginning of what a transitional period looks like. However, now the rumor mill starts for what the quote unquote replacement, which would be. Which is a new title and new position that they are calling the head of editorial content. And the question of who's taking that over starts now. When the news broke, I texted a bunch of my fashion friends just to say, hey, what do you think? What are you guys thinking? Like, where's your head out on this? Because as I was saying earlier, there was no signal that this was going to happen. It's not like it's been brewing for months and we've had people in the wings that could be great contenders. This feels very out of left field. A few of my friends text me back saying that they hoped it would be Edward and in full. Edward was previously the editor in chief at British Vogue. He also worked at Debbie magazine, Idaho magazine, and worked very closely alongside Anna Wintour at Vogue. He has incredible vision in the fashion industry, is very well connected, and I think he could make a great replacement. However, he has a new magazine that's coming out in September and I would be so surprised if he just was at Vogue, left Vogue to start his own thing, and then abandoned ship on his new magazine to go back to Vogue. I would be so surprised. Even though so many of us would love to see him there, I just don't think that feels realistic. I mean, look, a lot of people run two brands. Like Jonathan Anderson was at Jonathan Anderson and Loewe for years. Maybe he could do two magazines. Willa Bennett, who is currently the editor in chief of cosmopolitan and 17, seems to be doing a really good job at wearing both hats. But I just don't see this new Vogue role being one that Conde Nast would want that person to share. So for me, I don't think that's happening. I personally think it's going to be Cho Minati, who is currently the editor in chief of British Folk. For starters. She's been there for two years now. She's had incredible experience and has done so well with the magazine. I really love British Vogue covers. She's done the Billie Eilish cover, the Kylie Jenner cover, which went so viral. She also wrote the story for my favorite American Vogue cover, which was the Michaela Cole cover in October 2022. She had just come off a crazy run of her show, I May Destroy youy and the COVID was beautiful. I'll never forget seeing that cover for the first time. She wore this, like, beautiful sequin, chartreuse Gucci dress, and Cho Minotti wrote the story. So she had a huge hand in that cover. And that cover, to me, was one of Vogue's best. So in my books, I think she would be great. And as I was saying earlier, she's had these few years to really prove that she can do it. And I always think everything in fashion happens for a reason. Like, the media has been talking about Anna Wintour leaving Vogue for years now. It would make perfect sense that they would put someone that they think would be the most viable contender to replace Anna Wintour in the number two Vogue franchise to see what she can do and almost have it be like a test run. So I think that would happen. Then they would need to replace Choma, which could be interesting, but that is my biggest bet. I also will say, what wouldn't surprise me is someone to take over that role that is completely out of left field, like, and not someone that we ever saw would be the contender. So that would be really exciting. I'm so down for that. I love a fresh perspective. But I also will say that fashion recently is not really seeming so open to bringing in new faces or taking risks on new faces and new names. Gucci did it with Sabato Di Sarno. He lasted a year there, and now down Demna is going there from Balenciaga. And again, the names that are circulating in fashion right now that have been part of the musical chairs are all names that have a lot of credibility and have made these houses multi million, if not multi billion dollar businesses. Jonathan Anderson, Demna Matthieu from Bottega. So I think fashion really relies on the safe bet right now. But for editorial, it could be fun to shake things up a little bit. So my hope is that we know. My hope is that you're all listening to this and being like, oh, Liv, you got it all wrong or you got it right. Who knows? But to be determined and just huge, huge, huge news for the fashion industry today, I will say it's really feeling like 2025 is going to be a year that we look back in fashion history and talk about how crazy that year was for us, culturally. A completely new era at Dior, with Jonathan Anderson leaving Loewe and taking over Dior and bringing Dior, by the way, all under one creative director. That hasn't happened since Dior himself. So since Dior left his own house, there has been a different creative director for Dior, Men's, women's, and home. So I think it will be really interesting now that Jonathan Anderson has taken over all of Dior to see what Dior looks like with one cohesive vision. Very excited about that. Completely new eras at Chanel, Bottega, Gucci coming this fall. A lot of changes and now Anna wentour making room for someone new at Vogue. So I do think this is a huge, huge, huge year for fashion and I'm very excited to see how it shakes out. I think it's really exciting. I want to know what you guys think about all this. As always, my DMs are open. I love getting DMs where you guys ramble to me about what you think about what's going on in current events in fashion. But please always feel feel free to DM me. I will ramble right back. Also, a quick Housekeeping thing. Thank you so much to all of you who have subscribed to the let's Get Dressed Substack. I'm having way too much fun over there. I think it's my new favorite platform. Please don't tell Instagram and TikTok that, but I'm obsessed with it. The community on there is amazing and it feels honestly like this. It's filled this void that I've been longing for since the blog days. That sounds so dramatic, but it really is true. I am a storyteller. I love to write and it really is the ideal platform to be that. If you haven't followed me over there yet, it's linked in the description of this episode. I post little notes every day. Before we dive into some of the questions submitted by you guys, what are we all wearing for 4th of July this weekend? I feel like in the past I would wear, like, jean shorts and a bikini, but I really want to wear something a bit more elevated. I'm going to a barbecue at my mom's house, have some friends coming over, and there's a dress from Johnny Kane that's been sitting in my cart for the last few days. It's called the Callan dress, and it's this, like, amazing chambray denim vest dress with these, like, amazing white buttons down the center. And I feel like it's the perfect dress to put over a swimsuit if you're like me. And you also have Jenny Kane items in your cart. I have a code for you guys. It's Liv live for 15 off at checkout. Let getting dressed be one last thing you have to worry about. Let's get into some of the questions that I have gotten from you guys this month. One I want to dive right into is a lot of you have asked me about the Today show, what it's like putting together a segment and going live. I've gotten quite a few questions about that and then also what to wear for live tv. So I figured I would kind of run you guys through that experience and give you guys maybe some valuable tips. If are someone who speaks live a lot doesn't just have to be on tv, but could be if you're someone who in your business you do a lot of live presentations, it all kind of feels the same. So let's start there. I have been on the Today show quite a few times. I started doing segments in 2023, a little behind the scenes. The producer and I will work for about three weeks before the segment to build it out so that we're reaching all different style types. Whether you're someone who likes to follow high fashion or you're just getting dressed to feel your best every day, we really work hard to make sure each look is something that everybody can fall in love with. Everything you see is under a hundred dollars. We work with so many different brands to make sure that everything is at an affordable price point. And it's a really fun process. And then we'll also tailor the script to make sure that I'm giving you guys the best possible style tips based off of what you're seeing in the segment. What's crazy is we work on it for about 3 weeks, and the segment is maybe 5 minutes max. I think my segment last week was 4 minutes. So it's a lot for that one moment. But it's so worth it and so much fun. I did see a few questions come through about public speaking and what to wear, and so I'll share a little bit about my process. My biggest tip for memorizing lines is you have to speak them out loud. I don't care if you're walking around your house. I don't care if you're saying it to your partner or by yourself. You should never get up on stage or get up for a presentation and have the words coming out of your mouth be foreign to your body. I know that the more that I say it out loud and repeat it when I get up there, and trust me, the nerves are racing at that point. The last thing you want is for your body to be doing something for the first time. So speak it out loud. Say it as many times as you need to. I also would say that memorizing it line by line is a very slippery slope. I'm never memorizing it line for line. I memorize four bullet points that I can speak to while also having a conversation with the hosts. So if you're giving a presentation and you know that people in the audience are going to be asking questions or you want to engage with them, try that method so that you're not just visualizing line by line by line by line, and it feels really robotic, I really think the biggest thing is just being yourself. Oftentimes, I find that the best moments of the segment are moments where I'm interacting with the host. And it's fun and easy and effortless. So I think bringing your personality into whatever it is that you're presenting is really the best Way to go. I also got a question about what to wear. A follower messaged me saying that they were starting to do a few TV segments and video segments, and this could even apply if you're doing a zoom presentation. I feel like I like I'm a broken record from COVID talking about this, but all about the waist up, guys. I love wearing a top that has some personality. Maybe around the collar, maybe it's shoulder pad. This time around, I wore a really great linen set from Zara that had a top that had, like, almost a double lapel and then a tie around the waist. So it's it one was really cool and interesting to look at, but also gave me really great structure and silhouette. I also wore these beautiful silver earrings, and I think those looked really great for tv. So if you are presenting anything, I really recommend wearing comfortable pants so that you can move and feel comfortable as you're sitting or if you're walking around, you know, pacing on a stage. Wear your comfortable pants and let the top be the moment that gives you that personality. And then have fun with your jewelry. The earring was really great, but I think a good necklace always works. Think chic earrings, chic necklaces. That's really where people are going to be looking. If you missed the segment, it is live on my Instagram right now. You can go check it out, and then I'll be back in September. So more to come. Okay, let's move on. Let's hit a quick one. Boat shoes, yes or no? Guys, I know Miu Miu made those chic boat shoes, and I know that Alexa Chung was seen wearing them, but they're really not for me. To me, like, there's no energy to a boat shoe. You know what I mean? There's energy to a loafer. Like, they're sharp, they're tailored. There's just no energy. Let's be honest here. If you wear a loafer, you're really accomplishing the same thing. Like, but you're just taking the more elevated choice. I'm saying no to the boat shoes. But you know what I always say, if you love it, wear it. That's my preference. If it makes you happy, that makes me happy. Okay, the next question. Is butter yellow a color that you can wear to a wedding? Absolutely, yes. And I know why someone's asking this, because I had a similar situation happen at my own wedding. Certain pastels in a picture, in a video can shade lighter than they actually are. And controversial take. But my honest opinion is that if you find a dress that you love. And the bride loves that dress. Just because it shades a bit lighter in a video does not mean that you shouldn't wear it. Like, we are not going to weddings, and we are not going to these things because of what the photos look like. We're going to it to show up for our friends, be the best versions of ourselves, wear something that makes us feel so, so, so, so, so good. And personally, I think pastels are beautiful at a wedding, especially a summer wedding. I will say pastels sometimes are reserved for the bridesmaids. Like, maybe there's a light pink bridal party or something like that. So I actually always check with the bride ahead of time, especially if I'm good friends with them. I say, hey, what's your bridal parrot party wearing? I want to make sure that, like, your girls are honored and I'm not wearing that color, so I'll do that. Sometimes I even had a situation. I went to a really good friend's wedding over Christmas and wore this bubblegum pink dress. And in a video I posted, was shading white in certain moments of the video, but it was very obviously bright pink. Like, it was bubblegum pink, you guys. But I still got shit for it. And I remember responding being like, hey, this is an archive dress from this collection. This look, go look at it. It's pink. It's just the lighting I was in. So, yes, pastels love it. They're so beautiful. But if you're feeling weird about it, I always say, check with the bride. That should always be your first move. Last question before we wrap things up and head into July. What to wear on a date? I've been getting this question so much lately, and my answer is really uncomplicated. Like, I'm not going to sit here and be like, wear a mini skirt with this tank top and a heel. The only response to this question is, wear the outfit that's in your closet that makes you feel your absolute best. You put it on and you're like, oh, God, like, this is so me. I look so good. Because at the end of the day, it's not going to be about your outfit that you wore. It's going to be about the confidence that you radiate in that moment. Before Alex and I met and I was dating, I would always rely on, like, my favorite pair of jeans that just kind of snatched me and cinched me and made me feel so good. You really can't go wrong with jeans if you're going on a nice date or a casual date. Heels flats, either one. But knowing that I was in that piece of clothing that just made me feel like my butt self and then pairing it with like a nice or cute top. Like I was never overdressed or too underdressed. Like I felt like myself. I felt like I had my second skin on and I wasn't like fidgeting. You know, sometimes in a mini skirt I find that I'm like pulling it down or something like that. All to say the answer should be what you feel your absolute best in and what is going to not make you like fidget or fix through the night so you can be present and have the best time and be your best self. I also always like a little heel, you know, just like a little height. Like, like to be a little cute. Also, if you have an outfit and you are on the fence about it, please, please shoot me a dm. I am here for you guys. I'd love to see it. I love to help and then I love to hear how the date went afterwards. It is now Friday. This is an emergency addition to this podcast because Jonathan Anderson just debuted his first collection for Dior. Huge. This week has been immense, guys. So this has been a really fun podcast to record with so much in it. As I mentioned earlier in the episode, this is his debut collection as the creative director of the entire house. And a lot of people in fashion and beyond have been so excited for today because it's the first time we're going to be seeing his reinterpretation of Dior and what's in store for the future. For the past few weeks he's been teasing a few things on his Instagram and already there's been a very strong sense of like prep to what he's been posting. I also really love that there's been a really big emphasis on the classic Dior gray. So at first glance, I've really loved a lot of what we've been seeing already. I also loved the invitation, in case you missed it, he posted it on his Instagram. He searched through the archives and found this beautiful photo of a breakfast tray. It had a Dior by Dior book, the invite, and a cup of coffee, orange juice, grapefruit. And then there was this beautiful ceramic scalloped plate with three perfect pale pink off white eggs. And he chose that motif, the plate with the eggs, and had it remade all in ceramic and made that the invite of the show this year. I think maybe something that would feel more expected was, okay, maybe we do the book or something more obvious on that tray. But the symbolism behind the three eggs Eggs can be interpreted as rebirth. A new era was so cool, and I'm so jealous of every person who has that plate in the eggs. Cause what a cool piece to have in your home forever. Again, I'm really loving his dedication to the archive and his modern interpretation of them. The first look of the show was a men's version of the classic Dior bar jacket, which was incredibly cool to see. I'm loving the colors and the styling. And if you go look at the collection right now on Vogue Runway, there's also a lot of American sportswear and American prep references. I saw one of the Vogue editors say something really funny, which was that if Gossip Girl was happening today, they would be entirely dressed in Jonathan Anderson's Dior, which I think is. The tailoring in the show was immaculate, but also felt very Jonathan Anderson, like, almost a little, like, promiscuous in a way. Overall, I think what stuck out to me the most was how he's talking about being a designer at a major house for the first time. He actually posted that image of the first look that went down the Runway, the reinterpretation of the classic Dior bar jacket, and captioned it. You have to start somewhere. Look one at Dior. He also said in an interview to WWD at the end of the show, you cannot rebuild a house in one show. It's impossible. You'd have to be like, Christ. I'm loving this completely vulnerable approach to his era at Dior. I think a lot of designers would try to make it perfect, try to get it right, try to get the best reviews. But I think taking us all the way back to the beginning, showing us the original references of Dior show and then showing the ways that he's adding his own unique spin on it, I feel like I'm along on the ride with him, and I don't think I've ever really experienced that before. Lots of great energy in the fashion industry this week. This was really fun. I'm so excited about this Dior, and I'm so excited to see his next collection in September. What a debut. He got a standing ovation, which is really rare in fashion. You could just see the energy in that room was really palpable. He looked really emotional, and I'm just incredibly happy for him and am excited, excited for all of us. All right, that's all I got for you guys. Which, when I say that's all I got, I just gave you guys so much. So I hope that you all had a great June. I cannot believe we are officially entering July. So I hope you guys all loved it. I hope you guys learned something. And I hope something that I said today helps you get ready this week and helps you feel like your best self. Don't forget Elise Walker next week. Can't wait to see you guys then. Bye, Sam.
