Liv Perez
Hi everyone. Welcome back to another episode of let's Get Dressed. It's your host, Liv Perez. We are back with the debrief. Our end of the month one on one catch up where I fill you guys in on life. We talk some of the cool new things going on in the fashion industry and then I answer some of the best questions submitted in my Ask Me Anythings from the month. In case you missed it, I host an Ask me Anything on my Instagram every weekend where I put a question box on my Instagram stories and and let you guys ask me literally anything like what to wear at your best friend's wedding, if I like the new boots that you just bought, if you should buy a Loewe bag or a Louis Vuitton bag, it gets really fun in there. There are hundreds of questions submitted. I try to get to as many as I can on my stories and if I don't get to them there, I will do my best to DM you but I keep the best ones for the podcast. Can't wait to get into those a little bit later. But a few updates for you guys before we dive in. First, we are going to be off for all of August for a summer break and if you've been a longtime listener of this pod, that is probably new for you and that's because it's the first time we're doing it. Every week there will be a re air of an episode from the past. It'll be at the top of your feed so you guys will be well fed while I'm gone. There'll be some of my favorite episodes from last year. I will also be running new content on my socials every week. There'll be new clips that you haven't seen before from past episodes and I really hope that it encourages you guys to dive back in and maybe re listen to or find an episode that you love. Like fashion. Some of the best moments are in the archives and we have that at let's Get Dressed too. I'm really excited to be taking some much needed time off. Alex and I haven't traveled at all this summer. Our last trip was to Japan which felt like a big adventure trip. We were on the move every day so I'm really excited to just be sitting on a beach. I ordered a bunch of books that you guys recommended to me off of Amazon and I can't wait to be taking them all with me, having a drink on the beach and just really shutting off the before fall begins. Don't worry, we will be back on September 1st of course with some new episodes for you guys. Really fun guests coming up, especially as we head into Fashion Month and so much is going on there. We will be back on September 1st with a new episode. Fashion Week begins on September 11th so I hope that you guys equally rest and recharge for a really fun season ahead. I will miss you guys, but you know you can find me in a few other places. For starters, on Substack if you are looking for more fashion content like up to date fashion news, styling ideas, everyday fashion inspiration, you should definitely go follow me on Substack. It's like the podcast but ten times more and on a daily basis I post three articles a week on there. The first one is actually a recap of our new let's Get Dressed episodes and in that article I also share my biggest takeaway from the episode. So you get a little bit more.
Wayfair Advertiser
You get.
Liv Perez
If you are listening to let's Get Dressed and you want more when you're done you can always head over to my substack. The second article is what I'm styling for the week and every week it's something different. Last week I was styling some of my favorite wedding guest dresses for the summer. The week before that it was Kelly Green. And then this week sneak preview. I'm sharing with you guys some of my favorite beach bags that have gotten me through the summer that I'm absolutely obsessed with. And then every Friday I share something called Lives List. It's where I post about fashion news, the best in highlights, launches, brand collaborations, and just my favorite things from the week. Maybe it's a new bronzer or a new sandal that I got. It's a really great 360 look at what's going on in the fashion industry right now. If you're a free subscriber, you get the first half of those last two articles I mentioned. The podcast episode is always free and if you're a paid subscriber you get the full thing. Styling tips, curated mood boards, and so much more. I've mentioned it here before, but because you guys are my podcast listeners, you get 20% off of a year long membership. It's linked in the description of this episode. Come join me over there. I have so much fun. It's honestly my favorite platform right now and there's just always something going on. So come join in on the fun. On that note, huge news out of Substack this week. I don't know if you guys saw, they just raised $100 million to expand the platform. They have some really interesting investors that just came on. Rich Paul and Jens Greed of Sky Skims. I am frankly obsessed with Substack and I don't know if it's just because I came up kind of in the blog era, but it really feels like the new era blog. It's interesting when you go on there and you see who the biggest creators are. A lot of them also started in the blog era. You've got Chris L. Lim on there. Cupcakes and Cashmere is on there, Leandra Medine is on there. So it's a really great place where you're finding creators like me in the fashion space who are looking to connect and in a deeper, more meaningful way. It honestly feels comparable to what starting this podcast felt like for me. I love Instagram, but there's only so far you can go there. Whereas with podcasting and substack platforms there's so much more that you can share and clearly there's a giant public interest in it. So I'm really excited to see the news that they're growing. I know that they're looking to grow the actual Substack app, and then also I think they're looking to grow some of the features on Substack. So whatever you're creating on there, you're creating it in a larger way. They're probably going to lean into video a lot. The news feed is also probably going to Grow. I love the platform and feel like it's really just the beginning of it. Okay, let's start with the big ticket item that so many of you were curious about last week on my Instagram. After I posted it, I got so many questions about this, and that is my big closet cleanout. If you've listened to the POD for a while, you know you're not stranger to this. I love a good closet cleanout. I clean out my closet usually once a quarter. I've always been someone who likes to take inventory of what I have and make sure that everything I have is getting used. Because if not, I'd prefer to give it a new home. Recently, I've been feeling like when I walk into my closet, my clothes don't really feel like me. And I'm sure a lot of us feel that way, give or take. Every now and then you walk in and you're like, ugh, I have nothing to wear. But I really feel like there's a lot in my closet that hasn't really caught up to who I am as a person. So I'm really excited to be doing this in a bigger, deeper way. And what I mean by that is I'm not just cleaning out, but I'm also going to be setting aside budget to invest in new pieces. I plan to take you guys through this entire process from A to Z, and a lot of you brought up so many things that you want to see. Whether it's what I'm keeping, how I'm getting rid of things, where I'm getting rid of things, what are some pieces I would never get rid of, what I'm going to be buying. So I'm hoping to answer all of that on my Instagram. Tomorrow is phase one, as I like to call it, which is the purge. I'm having a friend come over who's also a stylist, who is going to help me really get rid of those pieces that I'm just not wearing. I feel like a lot of my closet is still, you know, pieces I've, like, had from college. I just entered my 30s last year, and I feel like we really, like, kind of keep those pieces from our 20s. So I want to be savage with it. Like, if it hasn't been worn in a year and it's not something that's, like, archive or something passed down to my family, I think it's got to go. Quick tip. One thing that I've done ahead of tomorrow is I've created a mood board on Pinterest, which I haven't done in the past for my closet cleanouts, because again, those are just to kind of sift through pieces. This is like, let's call it a closet revamp. So the first thing that I've done is put together this little mood board of the look and feel that I want to. And I think I have about like 50 or 60 pins in there. And this has been really helpful so far. And I'm hoping it's going to be even more helpful tomorrow because I can look at a piece and say, okay, if it hasn't been worn in a year and it's not something that's special to me and I still can't decide, I can at least look through this, like, visual parameter that I have and say, okay, does it fit the look that I'm going for? Does it fit all the items that I hope to have in my closet? And if it's yes, it can stay. If it's no, it can go. So that's phase one, and tomorrow the clean out is phase two. Phase three is the budget that I put aside where I'm going to go out and find new pieces that I plan to have for, like, the next decade in my closet. I really want to invest in good, high quality pieces that aren't things that I can only get two or three wears out of. They're things that I'm going to be wearing on repeat. Like, I noticed recently that I don't have a good black blazer in my closet, like an oversized one that I can just wear with a tank and jeans. I don't know how that happened, but it did. So I'm very excited to identify those pieces, make a list of all of them, and then really do some good research and find pieces that I'll have for a while. I plan to live in a bit more of a minimal closet for a little while. I think it's like when you move into a house, you don't need to furnish the whole thing at first. You know what I mean? Live in it for a while, Get a feel for where you live and what you need in the house before you fill. And that's my plan with my closet. I want to live in the pieces that I know I'm just wearing all the time and go from there. I'm excited about this. I know this probably sounds like a lot, but it's something I've been wanting to do for a while, and it's something that I use every single day. Obviously it's part of my job, but I'M also someone who really believes in look good, feel good. So I can't wait to do this. I can't wait to share it back with you guys. And I hope that it's helpful if you're looking to do something similar as well. So stay tuned on that. If you have any questions on it, please feel free to shoot me a DM at any time. I'm excited to take you guys along for this ride. While we're on the note of closet staples, a quick break to thank our sponsor of today's episode, Jenny Kane. You guys know how much I love Jenny Kane. They really make up so many pieces in my closet from amazing cashmere, great tees, amazing summer dresses. These are pieces that I'll wear forever. They're just so good. I've been thinking about those pieces that I wear every day that might need a little refresh. I love Jenny Kane T shirts. And if you're in need of a tee right now, I have to recommend my top three from them. First, the cotton rib tank. The perfect tank. I love a rib tank too. It adds a little bit of texture and just a great look to your everyday look. It can easily elevate like a simple pair of jeans. I also love the boyfriend shirt. The perfect crisp button down. They have it in a beautiful blue and a white. And whether you're going to the office or you need something that goes over a bathing suit, this is the perfect button down. And then I also love their Crosby tee, like oversized tee for summer over a swimsuit piece or with a pair of linen pants. If you're going to the farmer's market, they have so many good tees. And if you're in need of a refresh, which I recommend often for tees, this is the go to place. But of course you guys know everything else you could possibly need, you'll find there all the summer must haves that you've been wanting in your closet. Linen dresses, cotton knits, staple sandals, and so much more. You can find your new summer uniform at Jenny Kane. Our listeners get 15% off with your first order when you use the code live. That's L I v at checkout. 15% off. Your first order at J-E-N N I K-A-Y-N-E.com promo code live. As I've been saying, let getting dressed be one less thing we have to worry about. Okay, Moving on to our next question. What's something interesting that's catching your eye in fashion right now? I mean so much I feel like, we're about to enter an entirely new era of fashion. But I do have one that's actually pretty niche, and I cannot believe I'm saying this. Truly, this is, like, maybe so nerdy of me, but I'm really interested in smart glasses. I don't know if you guys have been seeing the Meta Ray Bans as much as I have, but I've been seeing so many people wear them. Victoria Paris just did a partnership with them, and she wore them on vacation, and I was like, you know what? Hands free on vacation sounds really fun. Like, she was videotaping her meals and, like, walking on the beach. And since I've been seeing it so much, it really makes me wonder if smart glasses are the next fashion frontier and the business of fashion. Actually just wrote a really interesting article last week about smart glasses being the next gold rush, if you can believe it or not. Meta actually announced their $3.5 billion investment into Elsie, or Luxottica, which is the largest eyewear distributor and the parent company of Ray Ban and Oakley. They have a 3% stake in the business, which is a huge deal and a massive vote of confidence for the product. And I think the thing that I'm most impressed by is how that classic Ray Ban didn't really change at all in appearance. Like, they still look like the Ray Ban, but now you have the ability to take pictures and translate images to different languages, like Spanish and French. You can play music and so much more. I feel like years ago, when they first started to do smart glasses, they were not chic. Like, they looked really big and just not cute. And I remember actually when I first started working in the industry, there was a company that kind of tried to do the same thing, but the glasses were so sporty. Like, they were kind of like the GoPro of, you know, smart glasses. Like, things you would wear surfing or on an adventure.

And.
Liv Perez
And I think that really missed the mark for the time because at the end of the day, we still want our, like, classic amazing looking glasses, but with all the added perks. So I think they're really getting it right right now. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see more people wearing the Meta Ray Bans. I will say, like, looking at the picture quality, it's a little different than if you're taking it on your phone, but it's still really good. And if you are maybe going on family vacation or you are an adventure person, this is the perfect way for you to be hands free and really be more in the moment. I'm even thinking about this upcoming application I'm going on and I'm like, okay, I obviously want to take pictures. Content is my job. But I also really want to be present. And sometimes one thing that I think is like one of the worst social habits and one of the things that makes us less present is holding our phone. Like when I put my phone in my purse and I go to a party, I'm a different person. Our phone kind of feels like this like totem and like connection to the world at all times. And if I have it in my hands, I'm way more distracted than I am when it's in my bag. So I think this might be the answer to maybe like the phone social media fatigue that a lot of people are feeling. Also, if this didn't already help with everything I was saying, Meta just announced that they're working on a collection with Prada eyewear. So expect that the already great looking Meta Ray brand glasses that the Prada ones are going to be equally as amazing but still have all the perks as well. Those of you who want to be hands free, I think we're all going to be hands free again before you know it. And I think it's really going to be the next frontier in tech moving on. Beach bags. A lot of you have been asking for beach bags and I think that's super interesting considering we're almost halfway through summer. But as I mentioned at the top of this episode, I'm going to be doing a video on my feed this week of all of the beach bags that I have been wearing. Tried and true. I do feel like a lot of people are asking a similar question in the beach bag space and that's like, hey, I want a beach bag that's like chic, but also one that, like, I don't mind getting sandy or dirty for those crazy days at the beach. And I totally agree with that. Some of the ones that I've loved this summer are ones that I've never had before in my closet. Like a brand called Hunting Season that I love. It's New York based and they don't just have bags, they also have home accessories and jewelry. So it's more of like a really great leather brand. But their beach bags are really beautiful. It's a mix of raffia and leather, which I love. I think if you're looking for something that's like a little bit elevated, getting one with like a leather detail in there can really add a lot of oomph to the bag. If you're Looking for something that will take you not just to the beach, but like maybe to a lunch as well. I have a small bag from them that's raffia with a black leather handle and I get so many compliments on it. It's such a good bag and really well priced too. It's $2.95, comes with black leather, also comes with brown leather. That one is on pre order right now. It obviously did really well this summer, but they have so many other options too. Small, medium, large. They have this beautiful origami bag that I love and honestly I should add to my wish list if you're looking for something in a lower price range. Monday Swimwear makes such a good beach bag. Their Paloma bag is a hit. I absolutely love that bag. It's so good. The handle is great. It fits, folds flat in your suitcase. They have it in a few different sizes, mini, small, large, and a few different colors and it's just a great bag. Their large bag is 138 and then their mini bag is 79. So they're all really well priced and have lasted me a few summers already. Again, if you want to see all of these, it will be live on my Instagram this week. Ooh, one last honorable mention. ALC's Simon Raffia bag is stunning. This bag has been on my wish list for a really long time now. They have, I believe, a small size and a large size. The small size is 295, and then the large size is 495. They go over the shoulder. They're kind of like an origami shoulder triangle shape. I'm obsessed with it. So beautiful, so chic. They also come in other colors than just the classic raffia. There's a blue one that's like a blue raffia with like all denim. Yeah, that's like all I want to wear. It's so good. Shout out ALC Obsessed. I know we talked about this on the last debrief, but I have to bubble it back to the top of our inboxes because it's a question that I've been getting just consistently throughout the summer. And if you missed last episode, I'm leaving it here. Wedding guest dresses continue to be the most popular question that I get in every and any ama. I did a full new edit for you guys, meaning that I went through every single website. We're talking ASOs, net, a porter, Moda Operandi, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Revolve, Everything. And I curated over 70 of the best wedding guest dresses for you guys. Subsack saw it first a week ago, which is just another reason to go subscribe and I'm going to link the article in the description of this episode. There's something in there for every price range from under 50 to over a thousand, every single color you could possibly ever want, variety of brands and it's organized by color, which personally, let's just call this my Mona Lisa. I worked really hard on this and I made it super easy for you guys to shop. It's great. Even if you're looking for a bridesmaid's dress, cocktail attire, black tie literally has everything. I'm putting it in the description of this episode for you guys. I'm sure we will talk about this again because it's kind of an evergreen topic. I had four back to back weddings last summer and finding an outfit felt like a full time job. So I totally get it. But I'm here for you guys to help you play hooky from the job and help you find your dream dress. And I will try to keep this updated as much as I can. Okay, moving on to our last question for the day. What are you excited about for fall fashion? I got this question multiple times this last week and I'm obsessed with how eager beaver you guys all are seriously planning out the fashion and planning out your buys. It is literally still July. I. I love it. I have to say that I'm less excited about one item as I am about all of the new designer debuts. We're going to be seeing some really interesting things and what I am hoping is like a completely new like revival of fashion. September is a new chapter for the industry. There are a lot of new designers. Chanel, Dior, Marnie, Bottega, Veneta, Gucci all have new designers who are all about to come in with a completely new vision and a completely new story that they want to tell. And so I think already that's going to make for a very exciting new season. If I was to pick one thing though that I'm excited about for fall fashion, I think we're going to see a very big prep revival. My favorite Instagram account data but Make It Fashion Hi Maude, I love you quoted that there was a 66% rise in prep fashion this summer and I think that we're seeing a lot of that after Jonathan Anderson's Dior and Michael Ryder's debut at Celine. Both of those debuts I think gave a really good glimpse into a new look and feel. And dad about Make It Fashion said it's not quiet luxury it's not loud luxury, but it's something right in the middle. It's something that is really elevated but also really wearable, and I'm very excited to see it. So I'm thinking a lot of ties. I'm thinking a lot of pastel. I'm thinking a lot of plaid. When Jonathan Anderson's Dior debuted, a writer at Vogue said that it was something along the lines of what you would see the Gossip Girl crew wearing on the steps at the Met. And I feel like we're just going to be seeing so much of that. So I'm excited for a little bit of prep. I think J. Crew is about to have an even bigger moment than it already is. I think a lot of people are going to be flocking there after what they see. If you are someone who loves to dress preppy already, you love the Ralph Laurens of the world. You love the J. Crews. It's your time to shine. So that is my prediction for fall. While we're talking about fall, a lot of you were already asking me about the perfect fall boot, and I, of course, will be bringing you guys a full fall boot edit as we get more into the season. But if you're looking to already make that purchase, I will tell you my favorite boot of all time. It's the Stod Wally ankle boot, and they have been sold out for months. I actually just went and checked on the website, and it looks like they are fully restocked just in time for all of your upcoming fall buys. I have them in black, and I'm planning on getting them in the mahogany suede, which is like a deep brown suede. It's literally the best boot. I wear it every day in fall and winter. It is a rectangular toe with a low heel. There's a side zip closure, which we love. The leather is really great. It doesn't wear down. They travel really well, and they're just that easy boat boot that you want to wear every day to the office, to drinks with your friends, to a party. With jeans. They're Perfect. They're under $500, and if I could, I would get them in every color. And that's that on fall boots for now. I hope you guys love this episode. I love doing these debriefs with you guys. There's always so many things going on, so I love getting to carve out this time and share them back with you. If there's anything you ever want to hear on these episodes, please please feel free to DM me directly. And if there's something that you want answered again. My AMA is go live every weekend. You can always submit a question there and I will do my best to get back to you. One last substack plug if you do want my help with something and you want to make sure you can get to me. My subscribers on Substack do have access to my 24.7chat. They ask me questions any time of the day, any day and I will usually get back to them within 24 hours. That's where you can really get one on one help from me if you're looking for it. The community on there is amazing. So many fashion lovers and I just love sharing that with you guys. Okay last episode for the month. We will be back on September 1st. I hope you guys have an incredible August rest, relax recharge before the fall ahead. In the meantime you can find me on Instagram TikTok and Substack IV Perez and I'll see you guys in September.

Transitioning into the main content, Liv delves into her personal closet revamp—a topic that resonates deeply with her audience. She outlines a structured approach to transforming her wardrobe to better reflect her current style and lifestyle.
Key Steps in Her Process:
Purge Unworn Items: Liv emphasizes the importance of decluttering by removing pieces that haven't been worn in over a year unless they hold sentimental value.
"If it hasn't been worn in a year and it's not something that's special to me and I still can't decide, I can at least look through this, like, visual parameter that I have and say, okay, does it fit the look that I'm going for?" [06:45]
Create a Mood Board: Utilizing Pinterest, she has curated a mood board with 50-60 pins to visualize her desired aesthetic, helping guide her decisions during the cleanout.

Invest in Quality Staples: Liv plans to allocate a budget for high-quality pieces that she will wear repeatedly, ensuring longevity and versatility in her wardrobe.
"I'm going to invest in new pieces that I plan to have for, like, the next decade in my closet." [09:10]
She likens her closet revamp to furnishing a new home, advocating for a minimalist approach that prioritizes necessity and style.
Shifting gears, Liv explores the intersection of fashion and technology, focusing on the rising trend of smart glasses. She highlights the Meta Ray Bans by Luxottica as a prime example of stylish yet functional eyewear.
"I think they're really getting it right right now. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see more people wearing the Meta Ray Bans." [14:05]
Key Points:
Meta's Investment: Meta's substantial $3.5 billion investment into Luxottica underscores the potential and confidence in smart glasses becoming mainstream.
"Meta actually announced their $3.5 billion investment into Elsie, or Luxottica... it's a massive vote of confidence for the product." [14:45]
Design and Functionality: Unlike earlier iterations, the latest smart glasses retain the classic Ray Ban aesthetic while offering advanced features like hands-free photography and real-time translation.
"They still look like the Ray Ban, but now you have the ability to take pictures and translate images to different languages." [15:30]
Future Collaborations: Upcoming partnerships, such as with Prada Eyewear, are expected to further elevate the appeal and functionality of smart glasses.
"Meta just announced that they're working on a collection with Prada eyewear... they're going to lean into video a lot." [16:10]
Liv anticipates that smart glasses will address social media fatigue by reducing reliance on smartphones, fostering greater presence and interaction in real-time settings.
As summer unfolds, Liv shares her top beach bag picks that seamlessly blend style with practicality. She emphasizes the importance of choosing bags that are both chic and durable, suitable for sandy beaches and casual outings.
"If you're looking for something that's like a little bit elevated, getting one with like a leather detail in there can really add a lot of oomph to the bag." [20:15]
