Dorit Kemsley
It was three men who followed me from the bank to the shop. Inside the shop I had turned away for a split second and they had taken the handbag. So I think if that were to happen to anybody, you'd feel bad and violated and all of these things.
Kelly Ripa
But on the heels of it threw
Dorit Kemsley
me right into the throes of severe ptsd.
Kelly Ripa
Somebody gotta cue me or do I cue myself?
Dorit Kemsley
Cue yourself. Okay.
Kelly Ripa
Okay. Are we recording? So we're starting right now. We're starting right now. Hey everybody. Welcome back for season four, season quattro everybody of let's talk off camera. We thought we would kick this one off with a guest who's really been making some headlines lately. During her nearly decade long run on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She's been accused, and I'm reading from, from an actual list here of dumping a dog, doing cocaine in her bathroom, exaggerating a home invasion, hiring a private investigator on her own husband, faking a British accent. I've accused her of that spending $1 million at Chanel and having a face transplant. Which if true, I would like to hear who the doctor is that did that because I think her face looks amazing.
Dorit Kemsley
I know.
Kelly Ripa
And you can tell it's season four because the alarms are starting.
Jan Chalet
There it is. It's all starting.
Kelly Ripa
Were we not sitting here for the past half an hour without siren to be heard? Not a sound. You would think we were in the countryside.
Jan Chalet
It's your welcome back, Kelly.
Kelly Ripa
Now that we've started rolling, the sirens are upon us. Okay. She's written a memoir. Jan, did you know this? I did.
Roz Therian
I read it.
Kelly Ripa
It sets the record straight and it gives her real Take on reality TV called Unburdened.
Roz Therian
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
You know, it was very funny watching the episodes of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when she had the book cover party. Yeah. I mean, the book cover, to me, was, like, the absolute last thing I did.
Roz Therian
Yeah. I didn't know they had parties for book covers.
Kelly Ripa
Well, I didn't. I mean, I resentfully was forced into having a book party for my book launch by my book publisher, who made me do that. But I was very uncomfortable about it, and so I thought that was interesting that she, like, took the photo. I'm gonna get into it with her before the book was written.
Dorit Kemsley
Oh.
Roz Therian
Cause it's usually that comes after the fact.
Kelly Ripa
It's like the last thing you do.
Roz Therian
Oh, I didn't even know that.
Kelly Ripa
I mean, it's the last thing I did.
Roz Therian
That really was, like, the final, like, straw for a lot of her friendships, Right. When they didn't show up to that party.
Kelly Ripa
To the party. To the book cover party. Yeah. Anyway, we're excited to talk to her. Dorit Kemsley, of course, is who I'm talking about.
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
All right, so let's check in with each other before we check in with Duke.
Dorit Kemsley
Season four.
Jan Chalet
Season four. So can I just pat you on the back for a minute about something?
Kelly Ripa
Well, you should.
Jan Chalet
Okay. Season four. I just would like to give you a few stats.
Kelly Ripa
Okay.
Jan Chalet
47% of podcasts never make it past the third episode.
Kelly Ripa
Is that true?
Dorit Kemsley
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
I can see why some of them are terrible.
Jan Chalet
75 to 90% stop before episodes 20 and 25.
Kelly Ripa
Wow.
Jan Chalet
And 42% survive at least two years. Only 55% of those are still even active after five years, but 40.
Kelly Ripa
Well, this is gonna be one of those.
Jan Chalet
Somewhere between 5 and 15% of our podcasts make it to a fourth season.
Dorit Kemsley
Wow.
Jan Chalet
Which is pretty amazing.
Kelly Ripa
So we're doing something right.
Jan Chalet
And they say later on, fourth season means you're basically the law and order of talking into microphones.
Kelly Ripa
I mean, that is just shameful. That is shameful. You know what? That is indicative of the boredom of people, both the hosts and the audience. That's why we gotta. You know, we gotta.
Jan Chalet
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Guys, I think we should start every episode with something crackly. Like a big.
Jan Chalet
Crackly.
Kelly Ripa
Like a big announcement.
Roz Therian
Uh.
Jan Chalet
Oh.
Kelly Ripa
Like we're gonn, like, one episode. Albert will recome out of the closet. Okay.
Roz Therian
I'm pregnant.
Kelly Ripa
One episode. I was going to say Jan will come out.
Jan Chalet
Jan pregnant.
Kelly Ripa
Jan will come out of the closet for the first time. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Roz Therian
Well, we. Our guest is Ready on there.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my God, look how pretty. Dorit. Hello.
Dorit Kemsley
Hello, Kelly. How are you?
Kelly Ripa
I'm going to say something. This season, your look was Jan, your favorite as well?
Dorit Kemsley
The best.
Morgan Stewart
The best.
Kelly Ripa
It was our favorite look, and I realized what it is.
Dorit Kemsley
What is it?
Kelly Ripa
The less you do, the more beautiful you are. Yes.
Dorit Kemsley
Really?
Kelly Ripa
Because you are a natural beauty. And so for so many years, like, you always had, like, impeccable style. You are the posh spice of Beverly hills. Okay, so there is that great style, great hair, always, like, very elaborate, elaborate clothes. Elaborate, elaborate makeup.
Dorit Kemsley
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
But this year, you took this sort of I don't give a fuck attitude, and you, like, really, like, leaned into, like, that stealth, wealth look, devil may care hair, just a light blowout, or sometimes it looks like you just, like, let it air dry.
Dorit Kemsley
I know, right?
Kelly Ripa
And I was like, this is the most beautiful Dorit has ever been on this show.
Dorit Kemsley
Oh, Kelly. Well, thank you. Thank you. Well, I didn't expect that. That's so. I can't tell you how lovely and nice and sweet and warm and kind that is. Thank you for saying that.
Kelly Ripa
Having said that, confirm or deny? Did you have a face transplant? We were talking about all of the rumors that had been started about you.
Dorit Kemsley
Okay, whoa. I mean, a lot of rumors, but no, I'm so glad you asked me that. And I just want to tell you. I just want to tell you this. I swear to God and everything holy to me, I will never, ever, ever not tell you the truth. I believe that I have not had a stitch of plastic surgery on my face. No facelift, no nose job. No cheek. No chin. No eyes.
Kelly Ripa
I believe.
Dorit Kemsley
And no head transplant. How old are you? Oh, God.
Kelly Ripa
Am I not allowed to ask that?
Roz Therian
She said she was always going to tell the truth.
Dorit Kemsley
I know.
Kelly Ripa
I don't remember.
Dorit Kemsley
I said. I said, I'm never not going to tell you.
Kelly Ripa
Are you?
Dorit Kemsley
I'm never going to lie. Are you? I'm 49.
Kelly Ripa
You're 49?
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Okay. All right.
Dorit Kemsley
First of all, you know when your life is very chaotic and overwhelming and you're mothering and working and balancing, and you're going through a very public, messy divorce.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
With an ex that just, you know, doesn't want to prioritize. Peace. You start to age before you can even, like, breathe. I mean, it's just. It shows on your face.
Kelly Ripa
I've got to tell you, I. I've been in a 30 year marriage. I'm a very happily married person. I'm very lucky. But I still age. I mean, I Think having children ages you in dog years. I've said it before. I'll say it again. If you have kids, you age in dog years, one year is really seven years, because you are. And then tack onto that the PK of it all. So let me ask you. We're talking about your book unburdened. Before we get into that, I wanna go back to you shooting the COVID Did you shoot that before the book was written?
Dorit Kemsley
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
Okay, tell me why, and tell me the thought process behind it.
Dorit Kemsley
Okay. And you'll understand this as well. Obviously, having this platform. Right. Is one of the. One of the most advantageous things. And it's all about marketing the book. And I want to get it out there. I'm filming the season very clearly. Me, I can't have a launch party if the book hasn't been written. But the publishers had also said that a lot of people do a cover release party, which is very normal. You know, they did it in Sex in the City. Right. Do you remember? She did a cover release party.
Kelly Ripa
Yes. Yeah. Yep.
Dorit Kemsley
Anyway, it just.
Kelly Ripa
Yes, Right. So the viewers would buy the book. I did it.
Dorit Kemsley
Well, it's not even so that they buy the book. It's that it's. Listen, this is what I'm.
Kelly Ripa
Generates excitement.
Dorit Kemsley
Generates excitement. It generates buzz. It's also, you know, unhoused lives. They're tracking our lives. I was writing the book. I mean, first they, you know, I told the ladies when the book deal was final, and then they were excited, and then I'm writing the book. And so you take various moments. There's always a nice. It's nice to have a nice, big payoff where there's, like, a party or there's something you can celebrate. I couldn't do a book launch, but it made sense to do a cover release because then the viewers, at least they get a taste of it and
Kelly Ripa
they get to be along for the ride, right?
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah. And by the time it airs, the book is about to come out.
Kelly Ripa
So when I wrote my book, which is not a memoir at all, it's just, like, silly, zany stories.
Dorit Kemsley
I love it.
Kelly Ripa
When I was writing my book, anybody that I involved in any story, I would send them sort of like, this is how I recall this. Do you have anything to add? Do you hate this? Jan was like, please don't use that. I don't want to be dragged into this. And I was like, tough titties, Jan. You're involved. But did you like the PK of it all? Was there pushback? Did you send Advanced copies.
Dorit Kemsley
No, no, no. I didn't know. And, you know, I'm going to preface this by saying we have two children together, and they. They're young. They're 10 and 12 years old. And I've always thought, and I believe that it's in mine and PK's best interest to be amicable and to have peace because our children deserve it. It's not easy for everybody. I think it's been more difficult for him. And unfortunately, in the last couple of years that we've been separated, there's been a lot of this. So we didn't even really have an open line of communication where I could have had those conversations or I would have sent him anything.
Kelly Ripa
Has he read it, do you know?
Dorit Kemsley
No. Well, no. I mean, listen, nobody has it except for people that, you know, I'm speaking to.
Kelly Ripa
I love. I love that we read it before. That we read it before beginning. I love that. I love. Like, I somehow feel very powerful. Does that make sense? But so, okay, so Jan has a very interesting theory about your marriage.
Roz Therian
So I know that we're seeing your life through the lens of reality tv, but. But my feeling was, was. And especially some of the things you said in the book was that after this home invasion, which. I'm so sorry that happened to you. That seems like the most horrific experience ever.
Kelly Ripa
Can't imagine.
Roz Therian
I feel like you, as any person would, you had ptsd. You were, you know, you didn't want to go out. You were scared. And I feel like your husband, who always liked the fact that you were this, like, social person who can talk all these languages and can be out with people and be so social. I feel like he. And he seemed to, like, run away from the situation rather than come to you in the situation. I feel like that was the beginning of the end for your marriage because he wanted the dory that was like that little butterfly.
Dorit Kemsley
Yes. Yes, you're absolutely right.
Kelly Ripa
That is my worst fear. What happened to you is my worst fear. The image of you begging these people to let you live because you have babies is heartbreaking, gut wrenching. And then. Then to have people sort of undermine it and say it wasn't it was. Not really question it.
Dorit Kemsley
I know.
Kelly Ripa
So that has to hurt. It's like a double.
Dorit Kemsley
Double edged sword. No, Kelly, that. That. That was by far one of the most difficult things that I had to navigate because I couldn't for the life of me understand how someone can be so reckless, so careless, so dismissive. And we're talking about mothers.
Kelly Ripa
Can you Tell our listeners a little bit about that night because I think it really does, as Jan said accurately, that it sort of set up the transformation of you and the. The dissolution of your marriage.
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah. So pk, the kids and I, we were all in London for my nephew's wedding. It was a beautiful week and a half. They started production, and we were all supposed to come home together. But there was a showrunner that it was his second year. Him and I, we were not really on the best of terms. So he actually insisted that I fly home two days early. And I didn't really want to argue with it because I just. I knew it's the season. I just thought, you know what? I'm just going to, you know, take it. So I flew home with the children, and PK still had to stay back in London for a couple of days, and the kids and I got home jet lagged the following night. So we arrived late at night. I sent the kids to school the next day. I really wanted them to sort of get on, you know, California time, try to get back.
Kelly Ripa
And that's a huge commute, by the way, everyone. Big commute.
Dorit Kemsley
Yes, big commute. And, you know, luckily my children are good with. With jet lag, and they sort of snap into it. They've been traveling, you know, their entire lives. But needless to say, we were all exhausted, you know, by evening. And, you know, the really crazy thing, Kelly, is that at this point, My children are 5 and 7 years old. And when PK was not home, when he was traveling, one or both of my children always slept in bed with me.
Kelly Ripa
Yep, same in our house. Same always.
Dorit Kemsley
Not even a question. It was like at least one, if not two. So my daughter fell asleep in my bed. And I remember I was so tired, and I had a big day of filming the next day. My daughter's like a helicopter. She moves. My son still. My daughter moves. You get like an arm and a leg. So I remember I looked at her and I thought, you know what? I need a good night's sleep. So I picked her up something. I picked her up and I put her in her bed. I washed my face, I brushed my teeth. I got into my bed. I swear, I think I said out loud, I'm so happy to be in bed. And then I heard a sound that I hear every night, and that's my door handle, my door opening. And my kids, when PK is home and I put them in their bed, they inevitably were coming in my bedroom at some point in the night.
Kelly Ripa
So that doesn't alarm you. It's a sound that you are familiar with.
Dorit Kemsley
Very familiar. In fact, the only thing I was questioning was it was only five, ten minutes after I put her down. So I thought, she's already up, you know? But that's a very familiar sound, and I just expected it. Stem. And I'm waiting, and usually I have, like, a little hallway, and then I see these little bodies, and all the lights were off. I'm waiting. I'm waiting, and then I see, like, light in the hallway. And I'm thinking, you know, are my kids walking around with their iPad? Are they delusional? Do they think it's morning? So I. I said, hello. So I step off my bed, I pick up my phone, and I put the flashlight on my phone to see, where are these kiddos? What's going on with them? Still, at no point in my mind did I believe it could be anyone other than my children. There was nothing in me that was like, oh, I'm nervous, I'm scared. Not even in the slightest. So when I saw that adult figure appear, and as soon as he saw me, one charged at me immediately and put me down on the ground. And they put a gun to my head and screaming. And the other guy was going, just fucking kill her already. Just fucking kill her already. And the guy was screaming, who else is in the house? I'll fucking kill you right now. I'll fucking kill you. The only thing. And truly, in that moment, there was a moment where I believed, this is it. This is it. And I was waiting for the gun to go off. I thought, this is how I die. And my heart was so broken imagining that my two children would never see past 5 and 7 years old, when I wanted them to have these beautiful lives and be adults. And I just felt heartbroken and somehow, call it mother's instinct, call it daughter of an Israeli paratrooper, who knows? But some instinct came over me. I became very, very calm. They were very riled, very calm. And I just said, please, I'm a mother. I have two children. We're the only ones home. I'm not a threat. Please don't kill me. The only thing I care about, my two babies. That's all I care about. You can have everything else. I don't want it. I'll help you. Please. The only thing I care about are my two children. And I begged for my life. And I think me being calm calmed the situation. And they started to feel less like they were because they did not expect me to be there. There's no question.
Kelly Ripa
Right. They.
Dorit Kemsley
It definitely took them by surprise.
Kelly Ripa
Right. Which means they had been casing the house. Casing the house. Casing the house. Right.
Dorit Kemsley
I was just about to say a later discovered that's exactly what they were doing. They were around the house for at least 20 minutes. I mean, imagine that. And so they. They didn't expect for me to be there or for that to be the situation. And, you know, you can't play the game with. You never know. But I know that the way I handled it, I know this as sure as my name is Jaretta. I know was the right instinct and the right. Yes, thank God, because I managed to lower the temperature and just convince them I wasn't a threat. I kept very still and very calm. They walked, you know, one was behind me the whole time. They collected the things. They were here for 25 minutes. All I kept doing and, you know, and there was a lot of don't look at us, don't move, don't look at us. I just, you know, I kept saying, I'm not interested. I'm. All I care about are my two babies. And all I kept thinking in my mind was, please, God, please, please keep them asleep. Please don't let them wake up and see this. Please, please. Because if.
Kelly Ripa
If they woke up, if they start. If they start screaming and crying, if they're scared, you know, and the whole time you're thinking, just take this and go. Just go.
Dorit Kemsley
Just go. Take it and go. Yes, take it all and go and go.
Kelly Ripa
I don'. Tell you how fortunate you were. Do your kids know about this now? Are you concerned that they are going to be told about it by one of their friends at school?
Dorit Kemsley
I was at the time very. And, you know, I was very fortunate that my children were homeschooled at the time.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Dorit Kemsley
So I was able to contain it because it became very public very quickly. But they were young enough and they weren't in school. I think if they were in regular school, there would have been a real danger of that. But now it is. I mean, this was August 26, 2021.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Dorit Kemsley
So, you know, my children are 10 and 12 now.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
So if they were to learn about it now, as we are, however many years later, I feel like I'm not as worried about them learning about it now as I was then. They're older. I can. Even though it might frighten them, I can at least speak to it. As in, this was many years ago now, this is five years ago. Look, we're perfectly safe.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
Everything is Is good. Everything is fine. I can keep the, you know, keep them from being frightened or perpetually frightened, I believe. However, you know, I'll cross that bridge when I get there, I suppose.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Gosh. So after all of this, your first phone call, I'm assuming, is 91 1.
Dorit Kemsley
How long?
Kelly Ripa
How long were they there, guessing? Well, with me, I'm sure it felt like seven years.
Dorit Kemsley
Oh, God. It really did. They were there probably about 25 minutes with me.
Kelly Ripa
Can you imagine?
Dorit Kemsley
They went downstairs, they took me downstairs and that's when I learned that there was a third person in the house.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, God.
Dorit Kemsley
And they handed the duvet cover, which they put all the handbags and the jewelry, everything inside. They took my duvet cover off my bed and they packed it with luxury items and jewelry and watches and handbags, and he handed it to the guy. And then I was hoping they were going to leave. And then we went back upstairs to get more. And there was a period of time, I mean, I was truly. I mean, that was probably the scariest. Those 25 minutes were the scariest minutes because I knew it's so typical that my children do get up.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Dorit Kemsley
And now with any kind of noise.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Dorit Kemsley
Plus they're jet lagged. Who knows?
Kelly Ripa
Jet lagged. Who knows what time they think it is?
Dorit Kemsley
Exactly. And I know that they're going to come straight to me as soon as they open their eyes. That's not even a question because that's what they were doing. And I knew at their age, as innocent as they were, if they came in and they saw men with masks and hoods, guns and holding their mother and me, just trying to calm them,
Kelly Ripa
you know, you just don't know how those guys are going to react.
Dorit Kemsley
That's it. You just don't know because, you know, it's their reacting. It's. You don't know how they're going to react. But even more so, Kelly, I didn't want the trauma of even witnessing that.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, of course.
Dorit Kemsley
Because that can really change a child. Imagine that at 5 years old, 100.
Kelly Ripa
Yep. You know? Yeah. Yep.
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah. Now, luckily, thank God, as you rightfully said, so lucky. So, so incredibly lucky. Yeah, so incredibly lucky. I thank God.
Kelly Ripa
My mind goes a million different places, a million different places, and it's all bad. It's no place good. You know, I'm just glad that you're okay.
Dorit Kemsley
I was very cooperative. I was not engaging too much. I had my head down and I was looking down. I. I really did not want to trigger them in any way. And at some point when we made our way back upstairs and I just kept thinking, oh God, please, please, please don't let the kids wake up. I just wanted them out of there. And I said, After 10 more minutes, I said, you guys, you have a lot. You should get out while you can, right? Before it's too late, you know, hoping that that's going to make them think, listen, let's cut, you know, let's take what we, what we have and get out before the police come here, right? And there was really, I would say probably a few minutes later they, you know, they were still filling and then they just decided to leave and walk down the stairs. And he told me to get on the ground and he said, come to 60. And they left.
Kelly Ripa
Thank God.
Dorit Kemsley
The answer to your question, you asked If I called 911 immediately.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
No, I was petrified to call 91 1.
Kelly Ripa

Dorit Kemsley
I was petrified to call 911. And this is the things that happen in your mind, right? It's just me with the kids. I didn't want them to come back, and I was so afraid. And this might sound crazy, but I didn't know if they had a police scanner in the car. And then they would see that I would call because I was cooperative. I just was so afraid, and I couldn't rationalize thought. So I had a neighbor who was across the street who was an FBI agent, and her and her wife were very dear friends of ours. And she protected us. I mean, when there were fires, whenever she looked after us like we were a part of her family, she was the first person I called.
Kelly Ripa
Wow.
Dorit Kemsley
And to find out that her and her wife had just moved to Austin five days earlier.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my gosh.
Dorit Kemsley
If she. If she was still living across the
Kelly Ripa
street, I mean, she would have run down the street. I mean, she would have run down the street with a gun.
Jan Chalet
So what did she do? You gotten her on the phone?
Dorit Kemsley
I didn't get her on the phone. I called her wife, and her wife answered. And I said, you know, cerise, I need to speak to Jackie. She put her on. I told her. I said, jackie told her what happened. She said, dorit, hang up the phone, call 91 1. I'm assembling a team. They'll be there in 10 minutes.
Kelly Ripa
Wow. Wow.
Dorit Kemsley
I hung up the phone. I called 91 1. And then I was on the phone with the 911 operator. And I remember when she was telling me, okay, the police are at the gate. You can let them in.
Kelly Ripa
But you're afraid, too.
Dorit Kemsley
Afraid. Yeah, I. I kept saying, and, you know, I heard this when I heard the 911 call. So it really, you know, puts you back in that headspace.
Kelly Ripa
Right. You probably weren't aware of anything you were saying or doing at that point.
Dorit Kemsley
No, nothing. You're. You're out of body, right? You're out of body, out of mind. I remember saying to the 91 1, how do you know it's them? How do you know it's the police? How can I be sure? I'm too afraid. And, you know, I don't even remember now what she was saying to try and convince me, but eventually I did. And when I saw the police and, you know, Jackie had sent some friends who were gracious enough to come ex swat. So I was I was then in very good hands. But it was a very, very surreal experience. I can't.
Kelly Ripa
Jan. Can you imagine?
Roz Therian
I can't. And I was really shocked to read also, like, after you're going through all of that and you're trying to, like, get back to being somewhat normal, then, like, I think it was, like, a year later, you were robbed again.
Dorit Kemsley
That was actually the first time I had left the house on my own. The first time I had in 14 months after the home invasion. So it was Christmas Eve. Everyone was busy and doing things. My assistant and PK and. And I wanted to get some cash to give for bonuses. And the bank is, like, a mile and a half away, right? And by now, it's a little over a year. I had not left the house on my own. I always had somebody with me. Don't forget, we all said security. And, I mean, I was. I felt safest at home, right? For very good reason, you know, So I thought, no, I feel good. It's the holidays. And I was. You know, I felt strong. So I said, I'm gonna go. I can do this. It's like riding a bike, right? I got in the car and I went to the bank, and. And then I was thinking to myself, driving home, I don't know if I still have enough, you know, those box cards. So I keep them, but I didn't check how many I had. But I remember seeing boxcards in the shop that I was in three nights before, and it was on my way home. So I said, you know what? I'm going to stop and just pick up, just for safety, right? So I went in, and it's the kind of shop that you have a, you know, a cart. And I put my handbag in the cart, and I'm walking around. You're grabbing things because this is the kind of place that you're like, oh, I need that. Oh, I need that.
Kelly Ripa
Yep.
Dorit Kemsley
I go up to the register to pay, and I'm like, where's my bag? And then I was like, wait, what? And then I could feel. It started to feel like the walls were closing in, and my heart started to race. And I thought, no, no, no, no. I left it. I put it down. I put it down in one of the aisles. I'm going to go back. I'm going to find it. Because I couldn't comprehend that I would be in a situation where there would be some type of, you know, almost like you're a target, right? Because that's what you feel like. You feel like you're a target.
Kelly Ripa
They've been following me this whole time. They've been waiting for me to leave the house.
Dorit Kemsley
That's right. So lo and behold, to come to find out I was followed by. I was targeted. And it was three men who followed me from the bank to the shop. Inside the shop, I had turned away for a split second, and they had taken the hand back. So I think if that were to happen to anybody, you'd feel bad and violated and all of these things.
Kelly Ripa
But on the heels of.
Dorit Kemsley
For me, yeah. Threw me right into the throes of severe ptsd, of course. And it was as if I was starting from scratch. Are you.
Kelly Ripa
Are you working with a trauma therapist?
Dorit Kemsley
I did. I did for a long time. I did everything. I did. Emdr, trauma therapist. I mean, thank God, by the way, for therapy. Thank God.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my God.
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah, thank God. But, you know, there was. And I write about this in my book, ultimately, you know, how I came out of it and what a pivotal, you know, pivotal part in my life it was. And my God, when I started to feel like myself again, when I started to feel my confidence come back, when I started to feel, like the strength, all of the things that I could not tap into that I thought were gone forever. When I started to feel them, Kelly, it was like there was nothing in the world I was gonna do ever to let those go. That's why when you saw me come into season 14, which was not this past season, the season before, everyone says dorit, you know, you're different. You found your voice. That was a girl who had been in the darkest, darkest chapter of her life, desperate to come out of it. And when she finally did, I needed to be unburdened.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
I needed. I needed to feel strong, empowered, free. I needed to lay boundaries. I needed to feel like I was in control.
Kelly Ripa
And that was the season when you smoked the cigarettes, Smoked around the world, right?
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
And I'm going to. I'm going to take it a step further. Okay. I. Now and again, and this is not a commentary on anything other than it is what it is. You smoked that cigarette. And I noticed people on the Internet, on social media, started saying, why don't we smoke anymore? Do you have an Instagram handle yet for your cigarette? Cigarette?
Dorit Kemsley
I don't, but that's a good idea.
Kelly Ripa
You should start. You should start a parody account of Dorit Sigurd.
Dorit Kemsley
I should.
Kelly Ripa
So I want to. I want to pivot for a minute. At any point, did you say to him, let's sort of Pre divorce this out. Let's get a mediator involved. Let's pre divorce this out like civilized people and then just file the paperwork and we'll just sign on the dotted line.
Dorit Kemsley
If you even knew how many times, how many times I have begged, I have pleaded, I have tried to talk since. I've tried, I've tried everything. But I mean consistently, from the very beginning, up until now, still, what do
Kelly Ripa
you think it is? Where's the animus coming from?
Dorit Kemsley
I think for him, and, you know, listen, it's very difficult. I'm going to go out on a limb and speak for him, although I have no. I really am taking a guess. I think that he has to be enemies with me because it's too hard for him if we're friends. And I think it's more of an emotional thing because it doesn't make sense. It doesn't. And like I said, I have tried everything imaginable. I mean, I've said to PK from the beginning, you can do whatever you want. I won't stop you. I won't cause you any problems. I won't give you grief. You and I, we can come up with a very fair agreement. I'm only concerned. The most important thing to me is that we co parent our children in a very amicable, healthy, peaceful, in a way.
Kelly Ripa
Manner. In a way that doesn't traumatize your kids.
Dorit Kemsley
It doesn't. Yeah. Because I knew that it would be the least amount of damage for them if we could do that.
Roz Therian
But there you said they're 10 and 12 and they've got iPads. Like, are you. Are they seeing what we're. I mean, we're getting this on our. Like we were talking about this. I'm seeing. Anytime I open up my phone, I'm seeing tech. Your text messages from. From someone posing to be his lawyer, so.
Dorit Kemsley
I know, I know.
Roz Therian
I mean, like, how are they not seeing that? How are they feeling? You know, friends not telling them? Like, aren't you. Do you get ahead of that and talk to them about it?
Dorit Kemsley
Well, listen, we've got a very open line of communication, me and the children, so, you know, luckily they will come and talk to me. Don't forget, they're not on social media. Right, Good.
Kelly Ripa
Don't let them on. Don't let them on social media.
Dorit Kemsley
Oh, no, Kelly, you don't even know how extreme I am with regards to. And my kids know, too. My kids don't have phones and they won't probably for a good at least a couple of years. I'm not. I don't subscribe to children 12, 11, 10, 8 even.
Kelly Ripa
I've seen you're like a European mom. You really are. I mean, I don't know if it's your years spent over there, but you're like a European mom in 100%. My mindset, I think more.
Dorit Kemsley
More so I don't. It is. I'm also in the world, so I know, I know how dangerous it is for adults, let alone, you know, impressionable children. Yeah, no, I fully. And I'm. I'm not a no mom. I'm a yes mom. But when there are things that I say no, my kids know you mean it. Yes. And it's for health or safety. It's for their benefit.
Kelly Ripa
Did you see PK on that podcast? He did a podcast?
Dorit Kemsley
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
Did you see what he had to say?
Dorit Kemsley
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
I actually like. I mean, I didn't see the whole thing. I saw the clips that were released. So I. So forgive me. I was curious if you heard the entire podcast or just did you watch the clips? Dorit Kemsley
Well, I'll say this. He also said he has no intention of litigating this divorce publicly. Four days later, he plastered. I mean, it was like a public spectacle and, you know, had said his main priority is protecting our children. So when you ask, do I think it was for show? When I was watching the podcast, I couldn't help but. But don't forget, I'm privy to the way he is and what comes out of his mouth and the way things have been.
Kelly Ripa
You know, him as a full person
Dorit Kemsley
and also just, like, you know, his tone and the way he is. And it seemed like he had really good. What's a good word? Coaching. It did not. Media training even beyond that. More like, you know, image consultant. Right? Yeah, because it was. I mean, no one's gonna watch that and think, oh, God, what a jerk.
Kelly Ripa
Right?
Dorit Kemsley
You know, he sounds so. He sounds so grounded. He sounds like he's so calm and measured and he's taking responsibility. His only concern is the children, all of these things. And. And it just. I was watching it going, wow. But, you know, of course I'm going to see things differently than everyone else will.
Kelly Ripa
Do you think it drove him crazy when you were at the speed dating event and literally every guy there wanted to date you, and then, like, you're in the Hamptons, and it seems like there's just a stream of guys surrounding you. Like, does. Does that drive him crazy?
Dorit Kemsley
You know, Kelly, he's the one who's being photographed, you know, kissing this one. And.
Kelly Ripa
But I think it's, like, reactionary. I think it's like, oh, I'm. I. I'm hot, too. Like, he's got, like, that loki accent, you know, like, your British accent is posher than his British accent. And you're, like, from Connecticut, correct?
Dorit Kemsley
Yes, exactly. You know, I guess because maybe I'm naive like this, you know, I don't know, Kelly. I think to myself, I'm very much. You know, what you see is what you get. And he just. I don't know if it bothers him. I just know that I wish there would be more warmth and there would be more, you know, Kelly, we were family, right?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
How do you go from saying you're family with somebody to then wanting to eviscerate them? Yes. And I find it so difficult to reconcile, because no matter what, I'm on the show, Kelly, I get paid to share my life now more than ever, as I'm supporting my children. This job is more meaningful and more important. I am not going to turn up to work, which I'm getting paid, and pretend that everything is fine when it's not, and not share. But even then, I don't share all of the details of what's going on. In fact, as you can, as you will start to see, I was sharing.
Kelly Ripa
You kept a lid on it, a
Dorit Kemsley
big lid on it, and that was out of respect.
Kelly Ripa
But don't you think that the behavior, like the. Whatever hostility that you are experiencing, shall we say, allegedly, Chan, don't you think it makes it, I don't want to say. Easier to walk away, but don't you feel righteous in some way? If you were to walk away from PK and he turned around and said and did all of the right things, you might be riddled with doubt. You might be questioning, like, wait, why am I doing this? Wait, I've got to try harder. I must have lost my mind. What is happening? But when a divorce becomes so acrimonious and there's so much deliberate intention to hurt you in some way, allegedly, then it makes it easier for you to stand in the position of, oh, I was right. I wasn't imagining things. I was right. Don't you agree?
Dorit Kemsley
Oh, 100%. And I have to tell you, I really, really, really wish that he wasn't taking that approach, that he didn't want to make me be disgusted, hate him, look at him differently, truly, you know, and I don't really know which one's more difficult, but I. It was PK that wanted the separation, so. And it was me that filed for divorce, but that was because at the point I saw him kissing another woman on the streets in Beverly Hills, and the paparazzi are there, and. And I know well enough to know that was not, oh, I didn't know they were there. Oh, nobody's kind of thing.
Kelly Ripa
I'm sorry. With respect, nobody is. No paparazzo is following PK around. I'm sorry. I mean, let's Allegedly. Allegedly. Let's just call. Let's call it for what it is. I'm sorry, that papa. Paparazzi don't follow the husbands around. I'm sorry. That's not the draw. That's why it's not called the Real Husbands of Beverly Hills. Nobody really cares. They're like the. They're like the accent thing in. Going on the accent noise in the background, you know, so when. When those pictures popped up, I was like, of course. That's like a phone call. Of course it's a. Yeah, of course it is. Allegedly.
Dorit Kemsley
I mean, allegedly. Listen, you know, his. His bestie, Mo, is being photographed, you know, all the time with girls straddling him and kissing and this and that. And I think that there's a feeling like he's. He's cool. He's the man. And I think that there is, because the two of them have gotten very close, and it's really unappealing, unfortunately.
Kelly Ripa
It's like a weird. It's like the weirdest, most cliche midlife crisis thing, only it's like they're too old to be having a midlife crisis. They're having like a 3/4 of the way life crisis. It is like, tragic and like, all tragic. Cringy to watch. It's really so cringy. Yeah, it is.
Dorit Kemsley
That's the thing. It's just the. The. The need for the attention. It's just. I don't know, you know, the. The validation. It's just the whole thing is very cringy and it's unfortunate.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, it is.
Dorit Kemsley
Because I didn't look at my husband that way, you know?
Kelly Ripa
And now that's all you say, right?
Dorit Kemsley
That's all I.
Kelly Ripa
So let's. So which brings us to Mo. Which brings us to Kyle. So where have. Has anything. Has there been communication since the reunion between you and Kyle or Erica or Sutton or anyone?
Dorit Kemsley
Kyle and I have not had communication since the reunion. Eric and I have.
Kelly Ripa
Okay?
Dorit Kemsley
We. We both. I reached out to her when that news of, you know, her court being. Her case being sold, which really made me feel so sick, really upset me and made me feel sick, and I reached out to her to let her know I was thinking about her, and she wrote back to me. A very lovely, warm response. And then when everything surfaced in the media not too long ago, Erica reached out and sent me a really, really lovely message that she's here. I. I believe her. And I will not only work things out, but, you know, hopefully get together soon.
Kelly Ripa
And you should definitely get together. No cameras, just like a whole spot. The two of you and just like hash it out. And I, and I do believe that you and Kyle need to do that too. I think you both need to do it because you guys are like a decade, I know, into a friendship and
Roz Therian
I know I've been through all the same things.
Kelly Ripa
I know you could all really lean on each other right now.
Dorit Kemsley
I know.
Kelly Ripa
Really, really lean on each other.
Dorit Kemsley
I know. It's heartbreaking.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
When I step out and I think about it, I mean, I felt after the reunion, I. I had such a heavy heart, like really truly heavy. It felt like I had been run over by a truck, you know, so wrought with emotions and, and upset and angry and fighting. And you're caught up in the moment and it's the pressure of life on top of it that gets to you. Combined with. You're in this environment where you feel like the people that you want to be supportive of you the most, if they aren't, you feel almost like you've got to battle it out with them, you know, and when you take a step back and, you know, the dust settles and you really, you're not thinking about an individualized or an isolated moment. You're thinking about the friendship as a whole. The moments. And of course, all of the, the history, the memories, the moments we've had we've shared, the laughs, the love. And there's so much love. It's like you just think, what. Why on earth did this happen? Why are we here?
Kelly Ripa
Why are we fighting?
Dorit Kemsley
Why are we fighting? Why is this happening? It just, it doesn't make sense.
Kelly Ripa
I just feel like with long term friendships, you know, in that town, it's so hard to come by and you all have such shared experiences and shared history that I have not given up on you guys at all.
Dorit Kemsley
Oh, that's nice to hear.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
I mean, listen, I, I'm very hopeful. I would love to see, you know, I would love to see Kyle and I be able to get to a place that, you know, we really can put our differences aside or hash it out, whichever. And I thought we were going into the season, really, I thought we were going in that place. I think that there's. If both people want to, there's always room for, you know, making up and making things better. I think when it comes to Erica, her and I have not had any. This is the first time in 10 years. Right. This is, I mean, feels like I'm missing an appendage.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
You know, it just doesn't feel, it feels weird. It doesn't feel right. And when Erica wrote to me. Even recently when she sent me the text, it was. There was no different Erica. That's exactly the same Erica. The same love, the same warmth, the same intention, the same words that would have been before the fight, before we had a blowing out. Nothing is changed.
Kelly Ripa
I'm glad to hear that. I'm glad to hear that. Yeah. Because the end of the reunion made me sad.
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah, I know.
Kelly Ripa
I was sad. You know, and I hate that. All right, so, Albert, once again, we're gonna let you go, but I want to tell Albert how you close out your book.
Jan Chalet
I need to hear. Hear this.
Kelly Ripa
So the book ends with Dorit's world famous vodka soda recipe.
Jan Chalet
Okay, Talk me through it.
Kelly Ripa
Okay, do you want to talk him through it, or do you want me
Roz Therian
to tell him your drink?
Jan Chalet
I'm a cocktail person, so this I need to hear.
Dorit Kemsley
You are? Well, Albert, it's taken me years to perfect it, and there's a reason for everything, but it's very specific. It's vodka, club soda, short glass.
Kelly Ripa
Hi, Albert.
Jan Chalet
Hi.
Dorit Kemsley
I love. I love that he's like, yeah, as
Kelly Ripa
soon as we talk food or drink, then he logs on. Then he logs on.
Dorit Kemsley
Yeah. Yeah, no, exactly. Vodka, club soda, short glass, three lemons, squeezed in really well. Carcass out.
Kelly Ripa
Car.
Jan Chalet
What's the ice cube? Is it a single big ice cube? Is it multiple ice cubes? What is it?
Dorit Kemsley
That's a very good question. I personally. I love it. I personally like to fill the glass up with ice. I like that because I don't ever use a straw. I like to let the. Yeah. The juice and the. Everything fall on my lips. It's very, very. It's like quenching, you know, it's so yummy. It's satisfying, and I like to taste it. So in that case, you know, I'm. I'm. I sip the drink. So I like to have a lot of ice because, you know, I don't drink it really quickly. Some people, and I even say this. You can use one big ice cube if that's the way you like to have it. That's entirely up to the person. But it has to be a short glass. Has to be, because it has to be, because that's where the proportions will make sense.
Kelly Ripa
Do you.
Jan Chalet
And I'm going to use this as. I'm not being crude. Do you rim the glass with the lemon as well, or. No.
Dorit Kemsley
You could. You could do I. If I'm making the drink, yes. But oftentimes I'm ordering it.
Jan Chalet
So when you make it, you have to. Yeah, you have to.
Kelly Ripa
When Dorit comes over, you're going to make her.
Jan Chalet
I'm going to make it. Now I know exactly how you like it. I promise.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
Carcass out. Carcass has to be out. And there's a reason for that.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Dorit Kemsley
First of all, you don't want. When you're drinking it, you don't want the lemon. The rinds, like, falling on your face, number one. Number two, they start to get bitter. People are using it to squeeze. You don't want that inside your drink.
Kelly Ripa
It just. I also don't believe they're washing the lemon. That lemon has been everywhere. That lemon has been around the block.
Jan Chalet
You really need the metal filter on top of the glass when you do it. It's got to be. Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, yes,
Jan Chalet
I'm ready. When you come, I promise you will have the perfect.
Kelly Ripa
If Albert was straight, I would set you two up on a date.
Dorit Kemsley
I mean, Kelly, I know.
Kelly Ripa
If only Albert was straight, but, you know, Albert's partner, I think is half straight, so maybe half straight. I think you could turn him around, Dorit.
Jan Chalet
Maybe there's a door open somewhere. That's funny.
Kelly Ripa
Thank you for doing our podcast. This has been a joy and I want all of our listeners. Don't forget to pick up Dorit's book unburdened. It is riveting. It's an emotional roller coaster. Is that fair to say?
Dorit Kemsley

Dorit Kemsley
I love it.
Kelly Ripa
Thanks so much. We wish only the best for you, Dorit.

Kelly Ripa
All right, thanks again. Bye, Dorit.
Dorit Kemsley
