Jessica Biel
Remember that older song that he has, which I love, called Strawberry Bubblegum?
Kelly Ripa
Of course.
Jessica Biel
Such a good one. And my mom was always like, this song's about you. Yeah, this song's about you. And I was like, mom, I think the song's about weed. I'm pretty sure it's about like a joint.
Kelly Ripa
Somebody gotta cue me. Or do I cue myself? Cue yourself. Okay, we're back with another episode of let's Talk off camera. So let's get talking. I just did a segment with today's guest on the talk show this morning. She's so gorgeous.
Jessica Biel
She really is.
Kelly Ripa
She actually hurts my face. Yeah, I love her outfit. Hurts my face.
Jan Chalet
Yeah, she's beauty.
Kelly Ripa
She's a natural beauty. You know, it's not drawn on, it's not painted on, it's not aped on. That's just how gorgeous she is.
Jan Chalet
She's Gelman's crush. She's his celebrity crush.
Kelly Ripa
Well, he doesn't have a chance, so.
Jan Chalet
He should maybe should see who we're talking about.
Kelly Ripa
Dream on, Gelman. Jessica Biel is taken. She's taken. So there you go. Gosh. And I just want. I want her hairstylist to do my hair like he did her hair. But Then I'm like, but it won't look that way on me. It'll just look like a mess. You know, she had that undone. Done look. You know, that undone. I don't know. Yeah, that beautiful look. She's just one of those blessed. She's blessed. Blessed. So I'm very. You know, I came in hot today. Again, it's a theme. We've been celebrating moms all week long on our show. Cause it's Mother's Day. As of this recording, it's Mother's Day this Sunday. And so Gelman thought it would be fun to punish all moms by making them do arts and craps for arts and craps for the entire week. So we learned how to make our own flower arrangements for when the kids, you know, forget us. They taught us to make decoupage our own vases so that we have something to put the flowers in that we make for ourselves. And the final punch in the face. I've got to go paint my husband. And I'm not a painter. I'm not an artist. You know, I come from a family of artists. I've told you this before. My grandmother, my aunt, my uncle, they're all painters. My nieces are painters. My sister is artistic. My mom is very artistic. Lots of artists in the family. Sculptors. I have none of that. I have nothing. I've been given a fast tongue. And so here I am, art free. Truly art free. And I'm trying to paint my husband, who so far looks like a cross between ET And Larry King.
Albert Bianchini
It's not that bad.
Kelly Ripa
It's gonna be good. It's pretty bad.
Albert Bianchini
It's not that bad.
Kelly Ripa
No, it's pretty bad. I got the mole next to his nose. That's about it. The rest of it is a shit show.
Jan Chalet
I can't wait for these reveals tomorrow. Wait, how was your anniversary?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, it was nice, but did you.
Albert Bianchini
Have a nice meal?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, God, Albert. Wait, what day was my anniversary? Did we have a nice meal?
Albert Bianchini
Yeah, I think you flew on a flight.
Kelly Ripa
We flew. We were on a flight.
Jan Chalet
So, no, you are always like, but what'd you eat? What'd you do?
Albert Bianchini
Yeah. So my bone to pick. It's mostly with jam.
Jan Chalet
Oh, ready for this? I'm already getting killed.
Albert Bianchini
Is everybody talks about food and likes talking about food. I bring up food to Jan and she. It's like I'm talking about an illicit narcotic.
Jessica Biel
No, it's not.
Jan Chalet
It's just like, if I'm at a restaurant looking at a menu, I'll talk To you about food. But otherwise, like, who cares?
Albert Bianchini
Everybody talks about food.
Kelly Ripa
It's like talking about the weather. We don't all sit around obsessing about food.
Albert Bianchini
I'm not sitting around obsessing about it, but if I talk about it, it's a thing. You want to see if it would.
Kelly Ripa
Turn on the Food Channel. I love food. Food's good. Yeah.
Jan Chalet
Food Network. It's not my interest.
Kelly Ripa
Food is great. When we're going to a restaurant to order food, then I can sit down and talk.
Albert Bianchini
People talk about food, Jan. They talk about recipes, they talk about what they ate.
Jan Chalet
I had an episode about food.
Albert Bianchini
I'm like, no, I didn' say a food. Did I say a food.
Jan Chalet
Buying Seacrest show.
Kelly Ripa
And he, by the way, he doesn't eat any of that food. We know what you do, Seacrest, so just comment right down.
Albert Bianchini
Sardine. Sardine episode.
Kelly Ripa
Sardine. Yeah. An entire episode of canned foods that he never opens.
Albert Bianchini
First of all, there's one way to. I know how to get her into food. All I have to say are two words. McRib.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, well, the McRib. Well, listen, that's a special occasion. That's a special occasion. That's a. Once a year. Once every. Listen, the last McRib you gave me was pre pandemic.
Albert Bianchini
Oh, that's right.
Kelly Ripa
It was a pre pandemic McRib. So I'm probably due for another. But that was my last. The point is, that was my last McRib. And the last time I had McDonald's, like, how many years ago was that?
Albert Bianchini
Yeah, that was a. That was a while ago.
Kelly Ripa
Although I did have Chick fil a the nuggets on. On the airplane out to California before the Academy Awards. And then on the way home.
Jan Chalet
In n Out. Right?
Kelly Ripa
In n Out Burger.
Jan Chalet
Yeah.
Albert Bianchini
Delicious.
Kelly Ripa
So I was like, in n Out burger. Is that fast food heavy?
Jan Chalet
See, I thought that was overrated, I think. I don't like when everybody over hypes things like, you gotta not over hype it, because once you eat it, you're.
Albert Bianchini
Like, mm, an In n Out burger.
Jan Chalet
It's a little overhyped.
Kelly Ripa
No, come on, Come on. It's really good jam.
Albert Bianchini
We gotta retool a little taste.
Kelly Ripa
It's pretty good. Okay, the fries aren't. The fries aren't great, but the burger is great. You know what I do? I go to In n Out Burger, and then I go to McDonald's for the fries.
Albert Bianchini
That's a baller move.
Kelly Ripa
It's a baller move. It's a strong Move.
Albert Bianchini
That's a strong baller.
Kelly Ripa
Move. It's the best costume for the day. Speaking of costumes, the Met Gala. Yes.
Jan Chalet
Did you see Jessica's dress last night? She looked beautiful.
Kelly Ripa
She looked stunning.
Jan Chalet
Yeah. Colman Domingo looked great.
Kelly Ripa
Colman Domingo always looks great.
Jan Chalet
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
I saw him at the time, 100.
Jan Chalet
I was like, that's stunning.
Kelly Ripa
He's devastating. We. Mark and I invited him to dinner here at the house, and he said yes. So we should all. Yeah, we should podcast it. We should podcast the dinner. We should podcast the dinner.
Albert Bianchini
He did look great.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Jan Chalet
Oh, yeah. He looked beautiful.
Kelly Ripa
Let me tell you, I've been to this thing, okay? My big takeaway from, you know, the one time we went is that nobody looks at the exhibit. I thought we were gonna, like, have a special showing of the exhibit. There's none of that. I couldn't even figure out where the exhibit was. And I had, like, 19 fittings. I had jewelry meetings. There were shoe things, hair and makeup tests. It's exhausting. And you get there, and you only feel like you failed immediately because you have to ascend these stairs, and you realize you can't walk up the stairs in your. And you're like, how do I get up these stairs? What is about to happen? I know.
Albert Bianchini
It's intense.
Kelly Ripa
How do I get up? You know?
Jan Chalet
She didn't pick up the woman yesterday. It's Haya.
Kelly Ripa
I liked her outfit.
Jan Chalet
Oh, it was sand. It was. It was a. It was molded sand. They had to lift her up the stairs.
Kelly Ripa
I thought she was beautiful.
Jan Chalet
Shout out to Demi.
Jessica Biel
Your girl.
Albert Bianchini
She looked great.
Kelly Ripa
Your girl, she looked beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful. Always stunning.
Jan Chalet
I read that was wallpaper. Antique wallpaper.
Jessica Biel
Wow.
Albert Bianchini
Look at her.
Jan Chalet
How cool is that?
Kelly Ripa
She looked amazing.
Jan Chalet
Okay, Albert, tell Kel your story.
Albert Bianchini
I told you the time that I went and I went up the stairs, and everyone kept saying the moment that you shake her hand is like the moment. So when you go up and then first of all, those stairs are terrifying. And then you get to the top, and she's like fourth person down or something at the top of the stairs, and they said, you introduce yourself, and you say to her. So I reached out my hand and I said, hi.
Kelly Ripa
And by then, she swatted it. She swatted it? No.
Albert Bianchini
And I said, hi, Anna. I'm Albert Bianchini. And she reached out her hand and such, like, the hand down. And she shook my hand and said, of course. And then I moved on. I'm like, of course. Never met you before.
Kelly Ripa
You want to know why I was really Terrified. Zach didn't like. He didn't like any of my jewelry, so he took the bracelets off of his mom and put them on me. And then the entire night, I was like, you know, when you borrow jewelry, you borrow it with the knowledge that, yes, it's borrowed, yes, it's expensive, but it's insured, and if something happens to it, nobody's going to drop dead. When you borrow Zac Posen's mom's jewelry, you feel as though there's probably sentimental value. It is expensive. It's gorgeous. And it's her own personal jewelry. It's not a nameless, faceless, personal person's jewelry that they're trying to sell to Mrs. Hannigan down the road tomorrow. You know what I mean? You understand what I'm saying?
Albert Bianchini
Anytime you make a Mrs. Hannigan reference, it's a good day.
Kelly Ripa
Always Mrs.
Albert Bianchini
It's a good day. Whenever there's a.
Kelly Ripa
Or Marge from Cincinnati.
Jan Chalet
Okay. Is she in?
Albert Bianchini
I see her.
Jan Chalet
They said we can start.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, see the hair? Jan, come look. I know.
Jan Chalet
I want that hair.
Kelly Ripa
No, that's the hair. Yeah, that's the hair.
Jan Chalet
She doesn't.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Hi. So we're looking at. We're looking at Jessica Biel right now. And so, Jessica, this podcast is off camera. It's called off camera because we are off camera. Great. But I like to describe what I'm looking at to our audience. And before you logged on, we were describing you. So I see you're wearing makeup. Cause you've been on a press junket. Like, you have lipstick.
Jessica Biel
I do.
Kelly Ripa
But I know. I happen to know that if I went in there with a sponge and scrubbed your face off, you would look exactly the same. I know. I happen to know. Because I can understand the difference. It's not makeup. It's not lighting. It's not a filter.
Jan Chalet
She's gorgeous.
Kelly Ripa
She's just gorgeous.
Jessica Biel
Oh, gosh. Thank you.
Kelly Ripa
No, but it's true. You're gorgeous. And we were marveling over your hair today.
Jessica Biel
Well, this is a good hair day for sure. I have a deer hooked me up with these beautiful waves. But I'm not going to lie. I have. Look at this extra long, random hair piece in here. This is not my hair.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, really? That's not your hair Long one.
Jessica Biel
That extra long hanging. There's a few hair pieces in here. My hair is this pretty much this length, except for this really random long one.
Kelly Ripa
I like it.
Jessica Biel
Which is not the real bit.
Kelly Ripa
No, I really like it. And I've got to tell you Your look. Last night, we were so. We've been going through the Met Gala looks, and your look to us was the number one most gorgeous, most beautiful. You stole the red carpet and you. You understood the assignment.
Jan Chalet
Yeah.
Jessica Biel
Thank you. My gosh, thank you so much. I mean, I think what happens sometimes with the Met Ball is you get excited and you. You really can think about it as, like, this is a costume night. I can really. And you can really go for it. Like, this is the night. Of all the nights. If you're going to go for it and do something outside of your comfort zone, this is the night.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, but a lot of people were outside of every comfort zone known to man. Forget comfort zone. How are you going to sit and eat?
Jessica Biel
Well, I agree with you. There were some very architectural outfits there last night, and I don't think some people did sit. And some people. Some people had to change for sure because things were not allowing people to sit.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, that's the. That's the new. I think that's the new Met Gala trend, is that people change at, like, within the Met Gala, they have a wardrobe change and. And then they walk the red carpet all over again.
Jessica Biel
That's great. That I thought was brave. I thought, wow, twice.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Jessica Biel
No, I barely got upstairs the first time. And you know what? The most embarrassing part that I realized, you get up the carpet stairs. You know, it's not the carpet stairs. It's the next set of stairs.
Kelly Ripa
Yes. It's the neck. Yes.
Jessica Biel
That's the hard one. And then Anna and the hosts are at the top of the stairs, and it's. You're like, this is the moment that I can impress her and, you know, meet these people. And literally, I got up to the top and I was like, yeah. Hey, and how are you? Great to see you. Pleasant. Hi, Chris. Hello, Jennifer. Like, it was really great to see you guys. Like, I was so out of breath. It was. I was not elegant at all. I was like. They were looking at me like, are you for real? Like, get your together, woman. It was embarrassing.
Kelly Ripa
It's very hard to be a morning show host and go to the Met Gal app.
Jessica Biel
You cannot.
Kelly Ripa
The last time I did it, I was much younger, and I went right from the after party to my job, and I was still, like, in the full. You know, I was lucky. My hair was in a chignon. It wasn't very. Like, I didn't have any maintenance to do, but I was exhausted.
Jessica Biel
It's true. It's one of those nights that you're suffering for fashion you are. And if you. I think that's probably why it's once a year, for many reasons, but I think everyone went home and. And put their feet in ice baths. Because you know what you forget about as well? You forget that the most amazing part of it, besides seeing all these cool, you know, interesting people that you look up to and that are, you know, incredible artists in all their fields, you get to see the exhibit without any tourists there, without the Met full with people.
Kelly Ripa
Okay, so this is what I was talking about before you logged on the year I went. And I don't. I can't even remember what the exhibit was because we did not get to see it. They walked us down one hallway, and the next thing I knew, we were seated at our table and dinner was starting, and we did not see the exhibit.
Jessica Biel
You know, a lot of people last night, I found out and discovered when I sat down at my table didn't see it either.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Jessica Biel
I was sitting next to Dwayne Wade, and he said he didn't see it. And then somebody across me said they didn't see it, and this person did. I said, where did you guys go? Because I luckily got funneled right into the exhibit, and I walked and took my time. It was actually, like, magical because you're there alone, and I was just enjoying this thing by myself, you know, like, not. My husband's not there. I don't have a best friend I'm, you know, chattering with. I just kind of took it all in.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Jessica Biel
So beautiful and cool. I loved it, loved it, loved it so much. But then you had to walk 17 other hallways, which are incredible, by the way. And by the time I got to the cocktail party, I wanted to cut my feet off.
Kelly Ripa
Right, Exactly.
Jessica Biel
I was like, this hurts so bad. I forgot that I should have picked a different pair of shoes because we had to walk such a long way.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Because when you try on the gown and you slide into the shoes, you stand there for the fitting, and it's fine, because the shoes are fine. While you're standing there, it's fine. Don't ever think about. I have to walk up the equivalent of the Empire State Building in front of photographers and pose and stand and do all of this stuff in, you know, platform shoes or high heels or whatever it is. The. The. The least comfortable the shoe, the better it looks with the dress. That's just always. That is the law of fashion.
Jessica Biel
It is.
Kelly Ripa
Is it true that you. You soaked in 20 pounds of Epsom salt before the.
Jessica Biel
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
And what. What did that do it.
Jessica Biel
It probably did nothing for really. It was probably psychosomatic, but for me, it's stress relief.
Kelly Ripa
It's anti inflammatory.
Jessica Biel
All of that takes out all the inflammation in my body. I feel super relaxed. I slept really well. I was feeling full of magnesium. I mean, I just woke up feeling really good. And I was hoping for that because I had had a. I flew in on a red eye the night before and it was just kind of. It's been a bit of a whirlwind trip in New York for me, so I just wanted to feel great for this thing.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, you looked great. You stole the show. We were. We were just like going over the photos and you're the most breathtaking. And for you. It's hard for you to be the most breathtaking version of yourself, but you were the most breathtaking version of you, which is saying a lot.
Jessica Biel
Thank you.
Kelly Ripa
It's saying a lot. I really want you to have a daughter. I want you to pass your face on to your daughter. I don't think it's fair that you should rob another woman of having that face.
Jessica Biel
Well, let's get serious. Last night, I was decked in the most beautiful Cartier jewelry. I was with Cartier last night. When you put on a piece of jewelry like that, it changes you, you know, like.
Kelly Ripa
Yes, that's what it was.
Jessica Biel
They came out of the safe and went down here and then went back to the safe. You know, it was like the. The security man was there. That makes you feel a certain way. But all that other stuff, like, I had nothing to do with that stuff.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Jessica Biel
Thank you, mom. Thank you, dad, Grandma, Grandpa. I had nothing to do with this, honestly. You know who I already gave my face to? My son, Silas. He and I are like this.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, he has your. Oh, he has your face.
Jessica Biel
He and I have the same face.
Kelly Ripa
Wait, he's. You said 9 or 10.
Jessica Biel
He's 9.
Kelly Ripa
So around 10 or 11, they start. You're going to. The other moms at school are going to be like, our kids are dating. And you're like, what? I don't know who you're talking.
Jessica Biel
Oh, my gosh.
Kelly Ripa
I'm just warning you, it's all ahead of you.
Jessica Biel
It's. I mean, it's so weird to think about that, but also kind of cool to think that these little people who we are bringing into the world to. And who we are training to leave us and be independent in the world, like, it's gonna start happening. They're gonna start being independent. They're gonna be Start starting to do these things that they're supposed to do.
Kelly Ripa
You know, I talked about this in an earlier podcast, but we had for the first time all three of our kids at Christmas on vacation with us with their significant others. Oh wow. And to see them all together and to see them all love each other and get along the way they did and you know, they would say goodnight to us like as the elders. They'd be like, goodnight, we're going out to the club. And they would all go out to the club and they would all go do their thing. And then the next day at breakfast they would just be retelling these stories of just. They were so sweet. And it's so much fun when your kids get older. It's like a long time away for you, but it does go very quickly. But you're going to love it.
Jessica Biel
I'm excited for that time. I, I agree with you. I'm, I'm looking forward to really sharing, you know, kind of grown up experiences. I already feel like I, I shared some kind of grown up experience with my 9 year old. He's his nickname ever since he was little was he? We called him old man trapped old guy, like trapped in this little body, saying these words, wise things and doing these like things just older than him. So I kind of already feel like I have a version of what he might be like in 10 years. I'm really looking forward to that time.
Kelly Ripa
They are the people. Who he is now is who he will be in 10 years. Just so you know, there's very, there's no like spoiler alerts. They are born with the personalities they have all of their lives. You know, our reserved one is reserved. Our out there one is out there was always out there. And our, you know, pragmatic one was pragmatic is pragmatic. There's no sort of energy shifts like that. Like they go through puberty and they become weird, but then they get normal again and so. And so let's talk about the book. A kid's book about periods.

Jessica Biel
Yes. I just don't want it to be weird anymore. And I'm. I just feel like part of the reason I wrote this book is like I'm 42 and it's still weird. Why? Yeah, why is it so weird for me? Why am I still embarrassed? Why do I still worry about hiding my products? Why if I were to, you know, have an accident and bleed through my pants, do I worry someone's going to shame me, point at me, take my photo, blast me when it's, it's just, it happens. And it's something that so many of us are dealing with. I just don't want to live like that anymore. And I don't want. I don't want my boys to be a part of that culture.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, well, they won't be because you're their mom and you've written this great book and I think it's so important and it's really like you said it very much normalizes periods. And I remember. God, I remember the first time I said period on morning television. You would have thought that I had dropped the C word on tv.
Jessica Biel
Right?
Kelly Ripa
And I remember our audience being enraged and revolted, and I remember being shamed. And I remember the tabloids taking me apart for it. It was. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It was brutal because I had said the word period. And so I think about. We've come so far, and I think that when you write a book like this that can start young, where parents are engaged with their kids, whether they're boys or girls, I think it really helps improve the culture around it.
Jessica Biel
I think so, too. By the way, I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my gosh. I'm over it.
Jessica Biel
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Like, how awful to have something that's supposed to be this normal, beautiful, natural thing which brings, you know, human beings into the world and why our bodies do this very powerful, powerful thing to be made to feel shameful around. That, I think, causes a ton of different issues as you get older and as you try to navigate your way through, you know, being a person that has a cycle, that. That has a uterus that does all these crazy things. So, yeah, I mean, that's. Look, the pool. The. The book is meant to be a tool, meant to be a pathway to a conversation, a resource. It is not the end all, be all. I am not the expert. Expert. Which is why we partnered with period.org, this amazing organization run by young women who have all the real information and helped us find the right language. So it was inclusive, and everybody felt that they could relate to this, whether you have a cycle or you don't, because, you know, we all know somebody. If we are not having a cycle, for whatever reason, you know somebody who does. And I just think there can be a lot more compassion and love around it. Women and people who have uteruses and have periods. We have a lot to deal with in our lives.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my gosh.
Jessica Biel
It's a lot going on every. Every step of the way.
Kelly Ripa
Yep. I. I didn't even know there was. You said it's period.org period.org is one.
Jessica Biel
Of these really incredible organizations, and apparently this is. I mean, I'm learning, too. Apparently, some. Some people don't ever get their periods, and that's not necessarily typical, but it happens all the time, I guess. So there's just so many things that we don't know.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Jessica Biel
Which makes you feel. If it doesn't Happen in the moment where your friends or your sisters, you really do feel like, what is wrong with me? You start to have this self hate and this self, this awful stuff. Like you don't. We do it enough. We don't need any help by anyone else making you feel any weirder or more awkward or whatever. Being a teenager is so hard.
Kelly Ripa
It's so hard. It's brutal. It's really brutal. Did you have a conversation with your 9 year old yet? Have you, you know, how do you go into the waters of your body changing and puberty and your hormones and all of that?
Jessica Biel
We talk a lot about that already. I mean, I haven't specifically sat him down and read him this book yet. I only just got a copy myself like a couple weeks ago.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Oh, interesting.
Jessica Biel
After, after really talking about it now for the last couple days, I, I feel really excited to sit down with him because he's, he's a, he's such a cool person that I just know he's gonna just be like, okay, cool, well, great, good for you. You know, like, I feel like he's gonna have some response like that. Like he won't even. I'm building it up in my brain. We're all, as parents, I think, building it up in our brains as to how our children are going to react. And I do feel like we, we don't give them enough credit for just kind of being able to understand and, and absorb it and then move on. They're just so in the present moment that it's amazing how these kids do this. But we talk about a ton of other things. I mean, he's definitely, I've definitely told him, hey, I'm not feeling great today, I'm on my period and I just really, I'm not really that very patient. So I need you guys to be my best, best partners and best listening ears today, you know. Oh, okay, cool. Like, he hasn't really asked me. We've talked a little bit about tampons. We've talked a little bit about what they are. We haven't gotten into the specifics, but you know, I've said, hey, this is something that, you know, I need to use it every time, every month. I, I use this product at a certain time. And I, I said, I don't have time to explain it to you right now, but I promise you I will. Like we had that conversation, but we talk a lot about like his body's changing a lot and he's experiencing that. He's experiencing growing pains. He's you know, he'll, he has a hard time sleeping. He'll be waking up in the middle of the night, his legs hurt, his back hurts. He's, you know, he looks different, right? He went from this little guy to this kind of more grown up kid. And even, even Justin and I are like, wow, this kid is looking different all of a sudden. He's just growing. It's so amazing. So we talk a lot about that. We're talking about deodorant, we're talking about hormones in our bodies and why we smell a different way. And so we're into it and we're on the precipice of all the big conversations, I think.
Kelly Ripa
Has he discovered Axe yet? Because I will never forget when my sons went into the. I call it the Axe plume. They loved Axe. It was just. And the entire bedroom would smell like feet. This is my, by the way, this is my oldest son's old bedroom. This is where we now shoot the podcast in his old. Which remains kind of similar to when he lived here. But it smelled like Cheetos, which I think were their feet like onions, like armpits. And then Axe Tropical or like whatever the Axe scent du jour Tropical. It was just a bloom of scents.
Jessica Biel
We have not discovered Axe body spray yet.
Kelly Ripa
Just you wait.
Jessica Biel
We are experimenting with I think stone and something deodorant.
Albert Bianchini
Salt and stone.
Kelly Ripa
Salt and stone.
Jessica Biel
Salt and stone.
Kelly Ripa
Yes, that's it.
Jessica Biel
It smells really nice. So we're experimenting with some, some different products.
Kelly Ripa
I'm just telling you it's unavoidable. He's going to go his first bar mitzvah and he's gonna be on the Axe train and that's it. They all discover Axe at a bar mitzvah and then that's it. It's the end of the party. It's just one big Axe cloud.
Jessica Biel
Oh, I'm kind of excited about that.
Kelly Ripa
You guys have done a great job as parents. Like hiding your kids faces, you know, on social media. And I was curious, do the paparazzi respect that? In general.

Quince.comoffcamera you guys have done a great job as parents hiding your kids faces on social media and I was curious, do the paparazzi respect that in general? Do you find that you have to remind them?
Jessica Biel
You know, I don't think, I don't really think they necessarily respect expect that, you know, for out and about with our kids. It can be somewhat country dependent or like if we're in this country from the, in the states, it's kind of like state by state. You know, you gotta get it. You get hammered in the east coast, you kind of get hammered on the west coast. That's why we don't really, we don't really live there anymore. Just trying to create some normalcy for these kids and we want to, we want to share Our family, with our loved ones and friends. And also we understand that our job is this has this major public facing element. So we understand that part of it. But also, these kids didn't choose this. I don't want to expose them in a way until they have an ability to. To make that decision for themselves, you know, And I know that this is like, what they're growing. This. This very social media world is where they exist and where they live and where that will be a very big part of their life and their reality. I just don't want it to be on my account.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Jessica Biel
So I try. We try to engage in. In a way that feels authentic, but also just not, you know, blasting them all over the place. And no disrespect to anybody who feels comfortable doing that. That's just our family choice. Maybe it's a mistake, maybe it's not. I don't know. I'm like, this is the day by day thing, step by step.
Kelly Ripa
No, I think. I think you're very smart, and I think the longer you can keep your kids away from devices like smartphones, and the longer you can keep them off of social media, the better they will. They will know how to talk to people and look people in the eyes and carry on interesting conversations because they'll develop listening skills. They won't be suffering from nearsightedness, which we just discussed on today's show. Children in record numbers are nearsighted now because they are so screen addicted. Was it one in four kids have nearsightedness? It's like a record number. It's unprecedented, and it's all from screens.
Jessica Biel
That's. That's so crazy interesting about the screens and the nearsightedness. The last time we went to the eye doctor, Silas came with us and he just had a. We all three of us had a checkup, basically, and our doc said if he's gonna watch a screen, let him watch in front of a window.
Kelly Ripa
Huh.
Jessica Biel
So his eye is. It's not just like a black wall or just like a, you know, a wall in his bedroom. Turn him towards a window so he has to see first further out. And I bet that's probably why he suggested that I didn't. I was like, wow, that's an interesting, interesting suggestion. I don't know if I really understood it, but that seems to make a lot of sense to me.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. You know what else we talked about.
Jan Chalet
On the show that I think, Jessica, you tell me if this is true, that it came from you.
Kelly Ripa
This is Jan speaking by the Way.
Jan Chalet
Sorry. Hi, I'm one of the producers on the show.
Jessica Biel
Hi, Jan. Hi.
Jan Chalet
You remember when Gelman made you eat an orange in the shower?
Kelly Ripa
Yes.
Jan Chalet
I think that came from Jack. Did that come from you?
Jessica Biel
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
Wait, that came from you?
Jessica Biel
Maybe.
Kelly Ripa
Maybe I had to videotape myself eating an orange in the shower over the age of 50. Thank you very much. And I was like, wait, why the fuck am I doing this? And they're like. They go, it's a trend. I go, who says it's a trend? So you trended this.
Jessica Biel
I didn't mean to trend it. This is what happens with my social team, is they. They were like, please send us anything, anything, anything to post at all. Like a photo of your breakfast. I don't know, a landscape. Because every time I say to them, I'm so busy, you guys. I'm trying to keep these kids alive. I'm working. I don't know how to get this stuff done. I'm not good at this.
Kelly Ripa
Right. That's why I hired a social media guys do it.
Jessica Biel
Can you please help me? And so they were like, well, anything, anything. And so one day I just. I dysfunct myself eating in the shower because I do that a lot. And I don't think it's cool. I don't think you should do it. I think it's.
Kelly Ripa
You're maximizing your time.
Jessica Biel
You got it. I'm multitasking.
Kelly Ripa
I got it.
Jessica Biel
I didn't prioritize breakfast. I didn't prioritize lunch. I did a meeting, then another. Then I put a nap down, missed the lunch. Now I got to go. So what do you do? You eat in the shower? I guess that's what I started to do.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Jessica Biel
I didn't mean for it to become a trend. I didn't mean for anybody else to do it. I'm so sorry.
Kelly Ripa
It's okay. I forgive you. But we. It was so ridiculous. The entire thing was so ridiculous. I know, but I gotta tell you, because I was eating this big, juicy sumo orange in the shower. Okay. And I did find it very fragrant. It was nice. I was like, this smells nice. And you know how you get sticky and, like. Disgusting. I just rinsed it right off.
Jessica Biel
Yeah, you did.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, I did. So I was.
Jessica Biel
Listen, it's all about the item in the shower.
Kelly Ripa
Yes.
Jessica Biel
I recently tried something that I'm hesitant to share with you because I think it was. It is so disgusting, the thought of it.
Kelly Ripa
Pizza in the shower.
Jessica Biel
So much worse.
Kelly Ripa
Okay, go. I'm listening.
Jessica Biel
Fish and vegetables.
Kelly Ripa
Okay. In the shower.
Jessica Biel
In the shower.
Kelly Ripa
What kind of fish?
Jessica Biel
Like a white fish?
Kelly Ripa
Was it like a cod?
Jessica Biel
It's used in the water.
Kelly Ripa
Cod or halibut?
Jessica Biel
No, no, like a cod.
Kelly Ripa
All right, well, I'm Then. Now. I'm now questioning your judgment now. It's disgusting.
Jessica Biel
You should.
Kelly Ripa
It left halibut. I'd be like, all right, it was halibut.
Jessica Biel
I got in there and I was like, okay, I'm gonna give this a go. And I was kind of like, you're in my mind. I'm like, you are foul. This is. This is a beast kind of animal. You are disgusting. And then I tried it and I was like, not bad. I don't think it's not bad.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, no. If you could get showered, your hair washed, and your dinner in. I am all for that. I am with you. I did like I was you once. I was working and raising young kids. And I know that that means you have zero percent time for yourself. So you have to get creative.
Jessica Biel
You do. Thank you. It is creative. That's the way I'd like to think about it. Even though I really would like. I would like to. I would like to be mindfully eating slowly.
Kelly Ripa
No, but you don't. You don't get to do that for 10 more years.
Jessica Biel
But it's not a reality, right?
Kelly Ripa
No, you have 10 more years before you get to mindfully eat anything.
Jessica Biel
But I'm trying to mindfully eat, and it manifests into shoveling like a primal beast in the shower whilst shaving my legs and eats. It's all happening at once.
Kelly Ripa
Listen, at least you're not doing the other thing, you know, you're not shitting where you eat. You're showering where you eat. And that is fine. That is where the line is fine.
Jessica Biel
That's the line for me. I'm not.
Kelly Ripa
Albert, our resident foodie has a question for you for your next shower.
Albert Bianchini
What about a nice In N Out burger in the shower?
Jessica Biel
Tough. Bread is challenging.
Jan Chalet
Bread is challenging.
Albert Bianchini
No, you could do it protein style.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, yeah, protein style. Wrapped in the lettuce leaf.
Jessica Biel
Okay, done.
Kelly Ripa
Because. Because it gets very, you know, a lot of juice drips when you're eating it protein style. The bun's not there to hold the juice.
Albert Bianchini
You're in the shower.
Kelly Ripa
It's a great idea.
Jessica Biel
You know what? It is a great idea. I'm. I'm. I promise you I'm going to try it. I'm going to send it over to you. A video. The best part of eating in the shower is trying to figure out what to do with your phone. That's the funniest part, you know, and also trying not to expose yourself.
Kelly Ripa
Listen, I. I did it thanks to you. I had no idea. I had you to thank for this. And as. And they're like, well, can you. So I'm sending these videos and they're like, well, all we really see is the orange in your hand. Like, can we see, like you eating the orange while you're. And I go, let me tell you something. As a 50 plus year old woman, I try never to be naked for. Even in the shower. I. I don't like it at all.
Jessica Biel
Okay?
Kelly Ripa
I try not to be naked even while showering. All right? I feel like I need support. And the last thing I want to do is videotape myself and send it to you monsters at work where. And they're like, we'll pixelate anything that shows. And I go, lies. That's all lies.
Jessica Biel
Yeah. Don't trust that.
Kelly Ripa
It was like Gollum. I was like, Gollum eating an orange. And like just. It was the most. It was the craziest.
Jessica Biel
No, everybody looks like Gollum in the. In the shower.
Kelly Ripa
You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna send Jessica my shower orange video. Because if I had to make it, you have to watch it.
Jessica Biel
You love to watch it.
Kelly Ripa
That's your punishment. So let's talk about your sexy ass husband with his romantic music that he. We call it the baby making music. There are so many playlists.
Jessica Biel
That's true.
Kelly Ripa
That Justin Timberlake is on that we have, like. Cause we have like. Our playlists are called Bed, Bed one, Bed two, Bed three. I don't know why. I don't know why. We just don't add to the bed. But we make a whole new list. But Justin is on all the playlists. So when he's writing music, are you there? Is he playing it for you? Are you giving feedback? Because I'm assuming that you are his muse musically.
Jessica Biel
You know what he's told me in the past is that how he's inspired is by all different things. Like, he's inspired by me, he's inspired by our love. He's inspired by somebody else's relationship or something he saw or a movie that he loves or, you know, just an idea of whatever. Like it's. It's like an amalgamation of a lot of things. Like my. My mom. I love this story. Always makes me laugh because remember that. That older song that he has, which I love, called Strawberry Bubblegum?
Kelly Ripa
Of course.
Jessica Biel
Such a Good one. And my mom was always like, this song's about you. This song's about you. And I was like, mom, I think the song's about weed, but I'm pretty sure it's about like a joint or something. Like. No, no, no.
Kelly Ripa
It's a generational thing. My kids are constantly telling me what songs are about. I love this song. This song Cake is so good. Who doesn't like cake? My daughter's like, that's about. That's about Mom. That's not about cake by the ocean. I was like, who doesn't like cake by the ocean?
Albert Bianchini
Wait, it's not about cake by the ocean.
Kelly Ripa
It's not about cake by the ocean, Albert. It's not about. About food at all, as a matter of fact. Oh, no.
Jessica Biel
Exactly. Like these things. These songs are these, like creative collab. Mental creative collab inspirations, I think. And some. He'll call me and say, hey, I want you to listen to this. Like, I was thinking about, you know, us or you. And so he'll. He'll play me a rough version of something that's, you know, a love song or something that's. He'll call me and be like, hey, I just made your roller skating jam.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my God.
Jessica Biel
Because I'm always like, where are my roller skating jams?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my gosh.
Jessica Biel
So he'll say stuff like that. Like, here's the roller skating jam. Here's a love song. Here's a song that sounds like a love song, but it's actually about weed. Weed or whatever it is.
Kelly Ripa
You know what I want you to do? I want you to. Okay, I'm going to send you my orange eating video, please. And I want to see what kind of horror song Justin can write. Play it for him. He's going to write a horror song just in time for Halloween.
Jessica Biel
Oh, my gosh. I mean, my. My orange video is horror too. We could do like a horror clip. Horror clip.
Kelly Ripa
Horror, yes. That's what I want. I want our side by side orange in the shower videos.
Jessica Biel
Let's continue your nightmare.
Kelly Ripa
It'll be like a horrifying age progression video. Stop. Anyway, we thank you so much for joining us on this here humble podcast. Don't forget to pick up a kid's book about periods. It's not about punctuation, Jan. It's about menstruation.
Jessica Biel
That's right, Jessica Biel.
Kelly Ripa
Exclamation, exclamation, exclamation point. Thank you so much for being here. We really appreciate it.
Jessica Biel
Thank you, Kelly. Thank you guys. For having me.
Kelly Ripa
