Lisa Rinna
And I'll never forget, I'm halfway across the table. I'm gonna strangle her.
Kelly Ripa
Yep.
Lisa Rinna
And I remember thinking, oh, my God. Or God came down to me and said, don't touch her or you'll end up in a prison in Amsterdam. And that's when I pull back and I take the glass. Cause I'm so full of rage. And smash it.
Kelly Ripa
Somebody gotta cue me or do I cue myself?
Lisa Rinna
Cue yourself.
Kelly Ripa
Okay. Hey, everybody, we're back with another let's Talk off camera. So let's get talk. Buckle up, Albert.
Albert Bianchini
It's a big one.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, no. This is. This is an iconic one. Yes, this is. It's bigger than big. It is iconic. Today's guest, of course, is a daytime icon from Days of Our Lives. You remember Days of Our Lives?
Albert Bianchini
Of course.
Kelly Ripa
Remember Days of Our Lives?
Albert Bianchini
Of course.
Kelly Ripa
Billy. Sexy Billy. Sexy Billy.
Albert Bianchini
My mom used to take us to the beach with her TV radio to listen to Days of Our Lives.
Kelly Ripa
That was my mom's. That was my mom's show.
Albert Bianchini
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Then she, of course, went to Melrose Place. I think I auditioned for her role.
Lisa Rinna
Did you?
Kelly Ripa
Oddly, they went in a different direction. I wanted somebody sexy. It's a theme in my life. She spent nearly a decade showing us what those bitches on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are like. She owned it. Oh, my God. Did she own it? We're talking about Lisa Rinna, everybody. Lisa Rinna. Jesus, I love her so much, but she doesn't just stay in one lane. Now I'm going to thought bubble Lisa Renner. Okay. She was thought bubbling. What should I do? What should I do for my next. For my next act? For my next act? I'm going to become a supermodel. I'm going to. You know what? I gave birth to supermodels. Might as well show everyone where the fruit came from. The fruit came from the supermodel tree. So now she's on every magazine cover. She's walking the runways in Paris. Yes, she is. I mean, you know, and she's banging Harry Hamlin. I mean, who gets a better life than that? Her life is better than everybody else's life.
Jan Chalet
And she's on right now. She's on the show that everybody is talking about.
Kelly Ripa
Everybody.
Jan Chalet
Our whole office was freaking out that we were doing this podcast.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, yeah. I got everybody.
Jan Chalet
All the producers were calling me, asking, like, sending questions to me. Never has that happened.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, good. Okay. You go a lot of traitor questions. All right, so she's also written a delicious juicy. And I'm talking Meyer lemon juicy. I'm talking ruby red grapefruit juicy. I'm talking all the juice. I'm talking, like when Harry Hamlin is making his tomato sauce and he is hand squeezing those tomatoes, that kind of juice. You know what I'm saying? That is juice.
Albert Bianchini
The ruby red.
Kelly Ripa
I'm talking Harry Hamlin in his loincloth in clash. That's what I'm talking about. I'm talking about if I tilt my head at the right direction when that Pegasus flies over, maybe I'll be able to see the royal jewels. I haven't seen them yet. Her new book is called you better believe I'm gonna talk about it. Oh, God. Ladies and gentlemen, Lisa Rinna. Lisa. We run out of time, Lisa.
Lisa Rinna
And now we're done. Exactly.
Kelly Ripa
Hey, it's been great, Lisa.
Lisa Rinna
Thank you so much.
Kelly Ripa
Did you enjoy my long winded int?
Lisa Rinna
I loved every second of it. Thank you. I loved it. Hi.
Kelly Ripa
This is a spoiler. This is a terrible spoiler, but it is a spoiler.
Jan Chalet
Well, by the time this comes out, it's a spoiler for us right now.
Kelly Ripa
For us, because you will have been eliminated as a traitor on the show. So. Okay, so tell me. I'm assuming once you do a show, once an actor avails themselves of to be a part of reality television, I have institutional knowledge that every reality show then tries to get you. They all want you on their show. Every show.
Lisa Rinna
I mean, pretty much, yeah.
Kelly Ripa
I mean, so how so they come to you for traitors? And what was it that drew like, what was it about traitors that you loved?
Lisa Rinna
Well, I first said, no, I rather watch it. I don't want to do it because it looked really hard to me. And then the people, you know, my people, my agents, my publicist, everybody in that world kept saying, you gotta do it. You have to do it. It's the greatest show, it's the hottest show. Da da da da da. Emmy award winning, da da da da da. And so they worked on me for about six months and they wore me down. And I watched it and Harry Hamlin and I watched it together, got totally hooked and then was like, why not? You know, I could use, I could use a new, a new thing, a new moment.
Kelly Ripa
And you get to hang out with
Lisa Rinna
Alan Cumming, who I adore. And I was, that's one of the positive pluses of why I did it. I was like, if he's doing it, I'll go hang out with him.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, exactly. So what was harder, doing housewives or doing Traders?
Lisa Rinna
Traders. Traders. Traders is harder than housewives because the physical component to it, it's ment and psychologically a mind and then on top of it and I don't care. Kelly, I know how great of shape you're in and I thought I was in good shape, but you're in incredible shape. But you go and do something like this and oh my God, you know that when you're running track, when you're like in high school or before high school and grade school and you're chest is burning out of your body.
Kelly Ripa
Yes.
Lisa Rinna
That, that's what it feels like when you're doing the challenge.
Kelly Ripa
So you're anaerobic the whole time. Yes.
Lisa Rinna
And you have, you know, these 26 year olds, you have football players, you have Olympic ice skaters. Doing this along with myself and Dorinda Medley. I mean, come on.
Kelly Ripa
Dorinda Medley? Africa.
Lisa Rinna
I mean, come on. They should have taken our blood pressure after every challenge. I mean, it's hard, it's challenging. It is a challenging challenge.
Kelly Ripa
What do you think about Michael Rapaport? Now? Michael Rapaport has announced that he's going to run for the mayor of New York City in 2029. Yeah, he did. Yeah. Because why not?
Lisa Rinna
I mean, you know, because why not?
Kelly Ripa
Why? Why not?
Lisa Rinna
You know, he is one of a kind and when I first saw him, as we know, he's a very big housewife fan.
Jan Chalet
Right.
Kelly Ripa
I think the big. I think he could be the biggest.
Lisa Rinna
Yes. And he can recite everything I've ever said on the show.
Kelly Ripa
Anything.
Lisa Rinna
He knows me more than I do as a housewife.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, because you say equip, and then. And then you move along with your life, but meanwhile, the rest of us are reliving those quotes and quoting those quotes and looking at the memes of those quotes.
Lisa Rinna
Exactly. They take on a life of their own. And Michael, when you add him into the mix, you know, as a traitor on the show, it was so great to have Michael Rapoport because he was a brilliant distraction for us. Like, I hardly had to do anything the first couple of episodes. I just sat back, you know, like, with my imaginary cigarette, and just watched him and listened to him, and he took out all of the air in the castle. So he was brilliant. And I never really wanted him to go because he was doing my job for me.
Kelly Ripa
Are you really living in a castle, or do they, like, whisk you away to a hotel at the end of the night?
Lisa Rinna
Well, you know what? They will have to kill me if I said anything. So I just. I just say that it is a lovely experience in that castle.
Kelly Ripa
A lovely experience in the castle. Why is everybody so glamorous at breakfast?
Lisa Rinna
Because they tell you to do that. They tell you to get ready to go. I mean, that's what they want. I guess so. You know, also, I noticed this just
Kelly Ripa
in general, and I think I'm going to say it's really the Housewives of Beverly Hills that started this. People in full beat at all times from first thing in the morning until bed. This is why I would be a terrible housewife, Jan. Besides the fact that I'm very boring, number two. And I don't like to, like. It's all I can do to sit through, like, that one hour on the talk show in hair and makeup kills me.
Lisa Rinna
I know.
Kelly Ripa
I mean, you know me in real life, so it's like, I do. I. Putting on makeup makes me. I'm, like, in pain. As a matter of fact, the second person I had dinner with after my neck lift was Lisa Rinna. And do you remember?
Lisa Rinna
That's right.
Kelly Ripa
Do you remember? Every asshole kept standing because I was sitting, like, across from Lisa Rinna. So everybody is so impressed that Lisa's there, and they're like, oh, my. Yes, they are. So they're standing behind me having conversations, and I don't want to turn my head.
Lisa Rinna
So I'm like, you're not supposed to.
Kelly Ripa
I'm literally really like Joan Rivers. I'm like, oh, hello.
Lisa Rinna
Hello.
Kelly Ripa
It's true.
Lisa Rinna
I remember it like it was yesterday.
Kelly Ripa
Hilarious. That was fun. That Was fun. So what does Harry think? So all roads lead back to Harry. Because I am also a long time married person.
Lisa Rinna
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
And I always say that Harry gives you way more latitude than Mark gives me.
Lisa Rinna
Really?
Kelly Ripa
Yes. Mark does not give me a lot of latitude. He would read the double indemnity clause on traitors. He'd be like, there's no way you're signing this if you break your neck. They're not responsible. Like, he would be very. Like, he's in the weeds that way.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, wow. I wish. Harry's like, oh, we're gonna go do this show. Cool. Great. I think you'll do well. Yeah, I think it'll be good for you. I think he wanted to see me squirm a little. I think he was secretly like, okay, you know what? This is going to really be good for her and it's going to really fuck with her.
Kelly Ripa
But I'm thinking, like, when you're there, when they're seeing you, right? Like, you're Lisa fucking Rinna. And you're so gorgeous, like, to any of those young guys, are they, like, do they hit on you?
Lisa Rinna
No, not at all. I wish.
Kelly Ripa
I don't believe it.
Lisa Rinna
No, it's true.
Kelly Ripa
Would you set up that boy from Love island with one of your daughters?
Lisa Rinna
That's one of the first things I ever said to him. Because, you know, we're meeting for the first time and they don't show it on camera. But we're in the kitchen and I'm in the kitchen with him. This is interesting. I'm in the kitchen with him and Candace before we know. We're traders.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my gosh.
Lisa Rinna
True. And we're talking in the kitchen, just the three of us, and I look over at Rob and I said, you know, I do have some cute daughters.
Kelly Ripa
I mean, your daughters are beyond cute. They're gorgeous.
Lisa Rinna
And he's like, you know, whatever. Where's my snake?
Kelly Ripa
It's so funny. Lisa and I used to have, like, this fantasy world in which we set up her two daughters with my two sons. And then one day, I saw her daughters in real life, in person, and I go, oh, no, my sons could never handle that. They could not. They're not. They could not handle that. I think Joaquin and his friend Jordan. Do you remember Jordan?
Lisa Rinna
Yes, yes. And Delilah came over that night for dinner. Remember?
Kelly Ripa
They didn't speak. They could not speak because Delilah was so beautiful that Joaquin and. And Jordan sat there silent, like as though somebody had cut out their tongues. I was like, are you guys. Are you gonna make It. Are you gonna be okay?
Lisa Rinna
It was funny, so.
Kelly Ripa
Okay, let's talk about your new book. Correct. You're a great writer.
Lisa Rinna
You think?
Kelly Ripa
Yes. You are super honest. I know.
Lisa Rinna
Maybe too honest, Kelly. Maybe too.
Kelly Ripa
I don't think there's any such thing as too honest. But I found out a lot of things I did not know, like, oh, good, you auditioned for the original. See the original Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Lisa Rinna
Correct.
Kelly Ripa
I didn't. I had no idea. So, like, what was that process? Like, why didn't you go through with it? Or why didn't they select you?
Lisa Rinna
I'll tell you, our friend Andy Cohen said, no actresses. I don't want an actress on this show. And I went pretty far. Like, I was talking to Kyle. I knew Vanderpump was up for it. Like, I went down to the Wire, and Andy Cohen said, no, we don't want any actors. And then I was like, okay, whatever.
Kelly Ripa
That's wild. To me, it's a true story.
Lisa Rinna
So then.
Kelly Ripa
So then they come back to you in season four, right?
Lisa Rinna
Five. Well, I. I enter on season five. So we start talking. At that point. I went in for a meeting, like, a general meeting with the producers. So it wasn't about Housewives. And then it kind of got. It floated. It kind of got floated around, and I started to think, oh, that could be an interesting way to, like, get back on track, you know, why not?
Kelly Ripa
So the girls are quite young when this all begins.
Lisa Rinna
Like, 12 and 15.
Kelly Ripa
Right. Jan has only been blessed with sons. Jan, 12 and 15 is the most terrifying and venomous ages that you can have. It's like. It's like having two little coils in the corner. Pit vipers. Having daughters is, like, at that age, very challenging. So what were the non negotiables with Harry and the girls?
Lisa Rinna
Well, it was. It was tricky. The first. When I first brought it to Harry, he said, absolutely not. If you do this show, I'll divorce you. So I was like, okay, well, then I really don't want to do the show because I really don't want to get divorced. So then he thought about it a little bit. We talked about it a little bit more in the business realm of what some of the girls were doing on the show and how much money they were making, business wise. And I had just started on qvc, so being the smart man that he is, he was like, oh, that could help in business. Okay, but you cannot drink any alcohol. And I was like, okay, all right, fine. I won't drink while I'm on The show. And that's really how it came about. And I did not drink for the first time, five years. And I think it was the right choice to make. So he allowed me to do it. He said, it's okay. You can do it as long as you don't drink. So I did that. And then, of course, the girls were too young at the time to realize, you know, really what was going on. But by the time they were old enough, I had to start to bribe them in order to show up on the show.
Kelly Ripa
Isn't it funny that you have to bribe your children to like. Cause I had the same thing with my kids when they got older. I went through phases, blackout periods. I call them blackout periods on the tone talk show where I could not mention them at all. They would not do anything on the show, blah, blah, blah. And then. And then when they started working part time when they were teenagers, suddenly they understood the value of money and they were like, is there any opportunities for me to make some cash on the show? So then suddenly, like, my son is doing a cooking segment. He's never, never cooked a thing in his life, but he's like, I can do a cooking segment, you bet. You know? So then it became like a thing of value. But it's. It's interesting, like, having kids in the business and respecting their boundaries while still having kids in the business.
Lisa Rinna
Challenging. Like, super challenging. I think there were some good years and there were some really bad ones where they were so mad at me and they didn't want anything to do with the show. So it was challenging.
Kelly Ripa
Take me into the Lisa Vanderpump of it all. You felt like she was molding you in some way.
Lisa Rinna
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
Manipulating.
Lisa Rinna
Totally manipulating without knowing it and doing a really good job of it. Until once you find out you feel that you've been manipulated, it's a different story. So that's pretty much what happened. I had no idea I was being groomed. I call it being groomed. I was being groomed, and she was really good at it. It affected our relationship. I mean, we were not good friends. We were, I would say, acquaintance before the show started. And that happened with every single person that I was an acquaintance with before the show. I end up not being friends with them. So that's. That's a. That's a sad part of the situation.
Kelly Ripa
I suspect that Beverly Hills is very much like New York City. It's like a big, small town, so.
Lisa Rinna
Exactly right.
Kelly Ripa
So you're gonna bump into each other.
Lisa Rinna
Yeah. And it's really funny. Because for about six years, I didn't. I didn't bump into Vanderpump at all. Like, no contact, anything. Just recently, which I think is so funny. We end up at a local sushi restaurant that we go to all the time. We've. The kids have grown up there, and I'm sitting there with my two of my best friends. We go there probably once a week, once every two weeks. All of a sudden, I look up and sitting directly across from me. And the times I've seen Vanderpump up to this point, we pretend like we don't see each other.
Kelly Ripa
Right? Right. It's the only decent thing to do.
Lisa Rinna
Only decent thing to do. We just know we're there, but we don't acknowledge it. So I look up and I see this really shiny diamond brooch. And it catches my eye because it's literally right across from me and it's diamonds. Right. So of course it's going to catch my eye.
Kelly Ripa
It's dazzling.
Lisa Rinna
Dazzling. And all of a sudden I look up, we lock eyes, and I look at her and I go, well, I guess we can't avoid each other this time. And I, of course, cackle. She looks at me and we kind of have one of those funny moments. And it just, it kind of broke the ice because I've also seen her since then and we've actually spoken and saw Ken and anyway, whatever. But it was, it was so funny because we just couldn't avoid each other at that moment. Hilarious.
Kelly Ripa
Well, I'm glad that you kept it chic and cordial in the sushi restaurant.
Lisa Rinna
We did. You know, I. I think at this point I've been off the show. She's been off the show for long enough. You kind of go, well, you know. Yep, we, we did that.
Kelly Ripa
Take me inside. One of my all time favorite moments in reality television.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, God.
Kelly Ripa
And I would say top two, top two favorite moments. You smashing the glass in Amsterdam. You know those little moments at home that just work? Jan Chalet
He tried it and now he won't eat his other food.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, so you don't need that now.
Jan Chalet

Lisa Rinna
Oh, God.
Kelly Ripa
And I would say top two, top two favorite moments. You smashing the glass in Amsterdam. But I am. I'm with you. Like if somebody talks about my husband, I would leap across the table with the broken glass in my hand.
Lisa Rinna
Well, that's what I did. And I did not see that coming. It happened literally five minutes after we sat down. Like we hadn't even really. I think we ordered drinks. It had been brewing. Like, you know, bad energy starts to brew. I had no idea that that was gonna happen. We were jet lagged. Like it's the perfect perfect storm. Right? Perfect storm. So Kim and I had already been having for four months our issues. So also, when you do those interviews for housewives, they ask questions and they can start to know about you. You know, they can start to know what pushes your buttons.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Lisa Rinna
So by that point, they knew that my husband and my children were my hot buttons to push. Right, Right.
Kelly Ripa
Of course.
Lisa Rinna
All they did was push.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Lisa Rinna
And that's how it happened. And I'll never forget, I'm halfway across the table, I'm going to strangle her. And I remember thinking, oh, my God. Or God came down to me and said, don't touch her or you'll end up in a prison in Amsterdam. And that's when I pull back and I take the glass because I'm so full of rage, and smash it.
Kelly Ripa
You know, I'm wondering, what are the prisons in Amsterdam like? What is it like? Are they giving you edibles? Are you hallucinating? Who knows?
Lisa Rinna
I didn't envision it that way. I envision it more like. Like a really bad, like, midnight run kind of a prison.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. What went down with Kathy Hilton in Aspen?
Jan Chalet
Yeah. I need to know.
Kelly Ripa
We all need to know.
Lisa Rinna
She had a breakdown moment. And I just tried to get her out of the bar so that she didn't make a fool out of herself or have a bad situation. So my intention was really quite good, but she had already been set off. So I think I just got the tail. I just got the tail end of it. You know, I don't think it was personal at the time. I think it became personal, but she was already spun out, so I just got her spun out in a dark house. And I just had never experienced anything like that. And that's what went down. And it was unfortunate, but we have since completely squashed that beef and buried that hatchet, and everything's cool because I run into her and her kids all the time. And I was like, I don't want to live my life like that. You know, I don't. But it happened. You know, shit happens.
Kelly Ripa
Because I think everybody seems a little bit afraid of Kathy. And I can't tell, is it because she's like a little cockamamie? She's a little zany. You don't really know what's going.
Lisa Rinna
Does she rule?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Does she? Like what don't we know? What are we missing here in New York?
Lisa Rinna
You're missing that the Hilton's run the social part of L. A. In a lot of ways. Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Really? Wow.
Lisa Rinna
Yes. Yes. They're very. In New York, too. They had their time in New York. But, you know, for 30 years, they've been like, the social. In the social world, at the top of the social world. So.
Kelly Ripa
So they said they decide who goes where, they decide who gets invited or can they. Can they cut you out of things? Do they have that kind of power?
Lisa Rinna
I mean. Yeah, they can. Yes.
Jan Chalet
I would say it's wild how everybody bows down to her.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, I know. I notice it, too. And I'm always like, what am I missing? Like, she doesn't seem that scary. She seems a little dazed and confused half of the time.
Lisa Rinna
Well, she is dazed and confused half the time. But, you know, if you ask around, she has a reputation of being pretty tough. So people get scared of her. And I think that's what it is. People are terrified to go through what I went through.
Kelly Ripa
But she called you. You the biggest bully in Hollywood, which I like. When I think of, like, a person who's not a bully, I think of you. You're like a non bully. Like, from my girls girl perspective. And I hate using the phrase girls girl, but I'm just gonna use it because, woman to woman, you have always been, from my perspective and all of the people, the women I know, an extraordinarily supportive person. The most generous, the most thoughtful and the most supportive.
Lisa Rinna
Well, thank you. And I think that that was a big moment of projection. I do. I mean, listen, I would own up to the fact if I were that, but I'm not. So I laughed at it. And I was like, well, that's projection. Yeah, you know, it's. That's. That's what that is to me.
Kelly Ripa
So I. I want to go into, like, probably the most painful part of your life. It was painful for me to witness the loss of your mom, Lois. Yeah. And I'm wondering how you're doing. Like, do you feel that she's with you all the time?
Lisa Rinna
I absolutely do. And I have been with a psychic since she passed. This psychic was a psychic medium that the girls knew that literally came into our life as she was passing and transitioning. And she's still with me now. Her name's Netta. And I get chills because she. She took us. She was able to take us, us through the process with my mom. And I always know that my mom is there. Whether she comes as a hummingbird, which she does come as a hummingbird, or things will happen in our lives that someone is very protected because something very bad could have happened and it doesn't. Or like, careers start to take off in a way that it is Monumental. I believe that's my mom. Yeah, I believe that's my mom. And, you know, it has been difficult. It was not easy to go through that in public. You know, you never really want to grieve in public. It's very difficult. And as you saw, you know, my last year on the show, I probably should have taken a break and not done the show that year.
Kelly Ripa
I felt for you. I really, really did. I felt, like, deep pain for you because you were so fortunate to have that close relationship with your mom and have her in your life, and you gave each other so much. So I genuinely worried about you.
Lisa Rinna
Yeah, you should have. It was worrying.
Kelly Ripa
You went to work, what, three days later?
Lisa Rinna
Insane. It was insane. Like, you're in shock. And, you know, if someone had said to me, lisa, I think you should just. Just take some time, I would have. But that wasn't said to me. So, you know, we're professional. We're soap actors. We show up and we work and do our thing. Kelly.
Kelly Ripa
I know it. Do you feel in general that the Housewives franchises protect some Housewives over others?
Lisa Rinna
I mean, you know, I never really felt that, to be honest. I mean, I think Kyle has a situation where she was. She's there the longest, and so it's a natural progression of seniority. But, you know, truly, while I was doing the show, I never felt like she's being protected and we're not. I just. I honestly never felt that.
Jan Chalet
I have a question. Yes, Jan, going in as an actor, did you, like. Did it feel like an acting job at first, or did it always feel real to you? Like, I would have a hard time differentiating.
Lisa Rinna
It felt really different to me. And it felt, you know, because nobody says, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, action. Like, that camera just goes on, and you're like, wait, what? Like, it's so different to what we're used to. I looked at it as a completely different entity, but as I started to watch the show back, I saw all of us as playing character, characters of ourselves, like, not. Not our true selves, like characters of ourselves. So that's how I would define it.
Kelly Ripa
Aware that cameras are their versions of yourselves. Now, it's. What's interesting is I'm going to say this because I think that sometimes throughout Housewife history, there have been some housewives that are, let me just say, emotionally or maybe mentally less stable than the others. And that is true in the acting world as well. The difference is when the cameras go on, the mentally unstable actor can lock in to playing a normal person. Whereas the mentally unstable person who is on a reality show, I think it heightens whatever it is that's going on with them. Is that a fair assessment?
Lisa Rinna
That is a perfect assessment because I, too, have worked with actors who are not mentally stable. And that camera turns on and boom.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Lisa Rinna
So that was a shock to me. To work with people that had mental instability at all times.
Kelly Ripa
It's wild, right? You're like, oh, this is not going to go away now that the cameras are rolling. This is going to keep. It's going to get worse.
Lisa Rinna
And it does get worse. And hence the genius. Evil genius of the show.
Kelly Ripa
Right. And so when other housewives leave, like Garcelle, another actress that became a housewife, left, did she reach out to you? Do you two have a communication.
Albert Bianchini
No.
Kelly Ripa
No. You don't. Like, I was like, is there like a. Are you running like a Ronald McDonald house for former housewives?
Lisa Rinna
That's hilarious. No, because those bridges burned, you know, Garcelle was another person I would. A friend of. Acquaintance. Friend. I called him a Hollywood. I was really Hollywood friends. And every single person who came on that show that I was a Hollywood friend of, I am no longer speaking to. Which is weird, fucked up and sad. All of them.
Kelly Ripa
Sad. That's. That's really sad.
Lisa Rinna
It's sad, isn't it?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. And is that the most disappointing for you of the group? Or are you just equally disappointed in every person that you had a relationship with that ended?
Lisa Rinna
I think every. Because two of them came to me and said, I really want to be on this show. Can you help me get on the show? And then, you know, that happens, and then the relationship goes away. It's just sad, you know, and it happened to two that asked me and then Garcelle. And, you know, it's just. Just what it is. That's all I can say. It's a shame, but it's a shame because it doesn't need to be that way. But it is.
Kelly Ripa
What about Denise Richards? Like, what's the nature of your relationship with her?
Lisa Rinna
I have none.
Kelly Ripa
None.
Lisa Rinna
I have none now. Which is. Again, she's. She's. She's one of the other ones that came to me and said, I really want to be on the show. And, you know, I tried to discourage all of them because I know what it's like. And I was like, I don't really think you want to. And then, you know, shit happens. And I'm not friends with any of them anymore. And I had, you know, bad instances with all of them. Sutton, Garcelle, Denise. And that's just the way it. The cookie crumbled.
Kelly Ripa
What do you think's going on with Sutton? First of all, I think she has. She has the opposite relationship that you had with Lois with her mom. So I think there's some of that.
Lisa Rinna
Complicated. Very complicated.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Lisa Rinna
I always wanted to meet her mom. I never got a chance. But her mom was legendary in the speak of her world. You know, listen, I think that we all have psychosises that come out as we are doing this show, and I think that Sutton came in with those psychosises, and they haven't left. You know, they're there, and they show themselves, and I think the audience really embraced her, and she got very, very, very lucky. She got very, very lucky. That's what I would say about Sutton.
Kelly Ripa
Jan, I have a question.
Jan Chalet
So you talked about how this is, like, good for businesses, like your other businesses, but, like, how much? And you don't have to say what you made, but, like, how. What are these? What do housewives get paid? You get paid a million an episode. Do they get paid, like, how much is it a big paycheck for? The longer you've been on, you think it's a lot of money.
Lisa Rinna
You start to make money the longer you've been on. It starts out very low. Like.
Kelly Ripa
Right, okay.
Lisa Rinna
Very low.
Kelly Ripa
Like you're shocked.
Lisa Rinna
Like you're shocked. Like. Like you're. You're not gonna do it.
Kelly Ripa
Like, less than a soap star.
Lisa Rinna
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
Wow. Wow.
Lisa Rinna
Yes, Kelly.
Kelly Ripa
Wow.
Lisa Rinna
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
Wow.
Lisa Rinna
And really, the only reason I went forward with it was I. I felt like I could make money through my business.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Lisa Rinna
But I was like, girl, I don't think so. Like, it's.
Sponsor Voice
And.
Lisa Rinna
And I came in higher than anybody because I was an actor.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Lisa Rinna
So they actually bumped me up.
Kelly Ripa
Oh.
Lisa Rinna
Much more than the ones that come on that have never done anything. So. And that was horrible.
Kelly Ripa
So all of the stuff we read about these multimillion All.
Lisa Rinna
It's all to get everybody worked up that these girls are making more than we are.
Kelly Ripa
It's. It's.
Lisa Rinna
It's to get us worked up.
Jan Chalet
But then they spend all the money on the clothes.
Kelly Ripa
Right.
Jan Chalet
Because they don't give.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Because you. Do you guys get a clothing stipend.
Lisa Rinna
No, no, no. And, Kelly, you and I are used to being dressed.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Lisa Rinna
And having our hair and makeup done.
Kelly Ripa
Right, Right.
Lisa Rinna
All of a sudden, you're responsible for your own hair and makeup and your own wardrobe. I spent all the money.
Kelly Ripa
Yes. Yeah. Right.
Lisa Rinna
I don't have a dime.
Kelly Ripa
Right. Because it all went into your wardrobe.
Lisa Rinna
Yeah. Cause I was like, well, I mean, I'm gonna look hot if I'm gonna do this.
Kelly Ripa
They're dressing up. They are getting dressed. It's not like that show. There's that show on Netflix, the Palm Beach Show. Have you seen these women? The socialites of Palm Beach?
Lisa Rinna
Oh, have I. Whoa.
Jan Chalet
What is going on there?
Kelly Ripa
I've never seen anything like it. I. Same.
Lisa Rinna
Same.
Kelly Ripa
Wow.
Lisa Rinna
Speechless. You know?
Kelly Ripa
You know what you gotta do? Okay, so here's. Here's my thought. You gotta, like. They gotta do. They gotta get somebody like you there to actually teach them how to be a real person on a reality TV show in. While pretending they're in Palm Beach. While they're in West. West Palm Beach. Like, that's. Like that. That's. That's my pitch. Like, you come in like the coach. You're going to coach them to glory. You're going to launch them into glamour.
Lisa Rinna
Can you imagine? I would. I could go in there and cause such havoc. They. Their heads would spin. It would be fun, actually. I'd like it as a challenge.
Kelly Ripa
So what do you think of this Dorit PK divorce?
Lisa Rinna
I think it's very sad.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Lisa Rinna
Divorces are sad.
Kelly Ripa
Horrible.
Lisa Rinna
Period. End of story. There's almost nothing worse.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, I. I agree with you.
Jan Chalet
I didn't see that one coming, though.
Kelly Ripa
You didn't?
Lisa Rinna
No.
Kelly Ripa
I don't know why I did. I saw it coming. You know how I saw it coming? He was getting skinny. Oh, he was getting skinny. No. Nobody listens to me. I'm like, when a man starts getting skinny.
Lisa Rinna
You're right.
Kelly Ripa
There is something going on.
Lisa Rinna
You're right. I think we all saw it coming.
Jan Chalet
You saw that coming, but you didn't see the Kyle one coming.
Kelly Ripa
Right?
Jan Chalet
That seems.
Lisa Rinna
That one I did not see coming. But I smelled it. You know, I'm very intuitive, and so, you know, there's always a little something that you smell and go, Something's not right there. So, you know, that was much more surprising than PK and Tarit, the Tom and Erica is. That's what surprised me. That one shocked me.
Kelly Ripa
Really?
Lisa Rinna
Oh, yeah. I did not see that coming. I didn't see that one coming. No.
Kelly Ripa
I mean, that. Talk about a sad ending. That is. It's awful.
Lisa Rinna
Awful.
Kelly Ripa
That's awful.
Lisa Rinna
That I wouldn't wish.
Kelly Ripa
I would not wish her circumstances on my worst, worst enemy. Truly my worst enemy. It's.
Lisa Rinna
I know.
Kelly Ripa
Just seems like, you know, to. I think there's, like, a lot of being blindsided There, like, really? And. And. And I. I kind of. I don't get it, because I've never been in this position because I've always been, like, a working girl. I'm like, you.
Lisa Rinna
I'm like, right, we have our money.
Kelly Ripa
We have our money. But, like, I. I know a lot of girls that married men of a certain level, and, like, they're in control of the money, and the women get to go along for the ride, and.
Lisa Rinna
That's right.
Kelly Ripa
And they don't really ask questions because they don't feel it's their place, and they're just happy that all of their needs are being met and what have you.
Lisa Rinna
And there's a power. There's a power grid.
Kelly Ripa
Real power. A real age thing. There's a power thing. It's all of it in play. And then to, like, be left holding the bag, and then to have his medical diagnosis and the prison sentence and all of it, it just seems like a lot.
Lisa Rinna
And I. Kudos to her for even surviving it all and. And. And landing where she has landed right now. I mean, it's. It's a. It's a miracle. It really is really tough.
Kelly Ripa
Speaking of miracles, let's talk about becoming a supermodel. You're so funny.
Lisa Rinna
Let's just say that was not on my bingo card, okay? Was it?
Kelly Ripa
I mean, it was on mine. Because I. Like I said, every year when you post your bikini Picture on the 4th of July, Mark and I gather around. It's like. It's like how. You know, how they. You know, they do, like, the Fireside Chat where they read like, Twas the Night Before Christmas to children. I call Mark and I go, it's up. And then he runs into the room. It's up. It's up. It's like, I wake up early, Fourth of July. I know the picture's coming, and she posts it. It's the best.
Lisa Rinna
Well, I've always said I'm gonna do it if I live till 90. You're gonna see it every fucking year. Every year.
Kelly Ripa
It's the greatest picture ever taken. And I still have to find somewhere in a storage facility in New Jersey. I'm not kidding.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, God.
Kelly Ripa
In a storage facility. Facility in New Jersey. Our Christmas card. The first year Michael was born, he was like. I guess he was like 7 months old, 8 months old when he took the picture. But it's the picture of you on the COVID of Playboy. And our baby is just holding. He's just holding the magazine.
Lisa Rinna
Are you kidding me?
Kelly Ripa
And that was our Christmas card. Our child holding you.
Lisa Rinna
You're kidding me. No.
Kelly Ripa
I swear to God. So I've. I know I have a box of these. I have a box of these cards somewhere in a storage facility because we moved so many times and I've got to find them because those are like vintage. Incredible. It was like, I thought it was a. I thought it was a thing of genius.
Albert Bianchini
That would have been a great wedding story if you ever married one of her.
Kelly Ripa
I know, but I was like, I gotta find that picture.
Lisa Rinna
I love it.
Kelly Ripa
All right, let's talk Harry.
Lisa Rinna
Okay, let's talk.

All right, let's talk Harry.
Lisa Rinna
Okay, let's talk Harry Hamlin.
Kelly Ripa
You and Harry, you're married, what, 27 years. Which is Carrie, the. Two.
Lisa Rinna
28. 28.
Kelly Ripa
So that's like eight.
Lisa Rinna
No, wait, more. More than that. How long have you been married? 29, I think. 29 years. 29. 28 or 29?
Kelly Ripa
Are you asking Harry?
Lisa Rinna
I'm asking my publicist.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, your publicist. I was like, is Harry there? Can he take his shirt off and get in the frame?
Lisa Rinna
How long have you been married?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my God. We were just talking about this. It'll be 30 years.
Lisa Rinna
Okay. Because we're right under you, so we must be 20, 29 in March.
Kelly Ripa
Wow. So crazy. So when you started dating Harry. When you started dating Harry, on behalf of all of us, on behalf of all women, like, were you starstruck or. No, you were just. I was. You were? Okay.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, 100% I was. I mean, he was. He's also 12 years older than I am, and he was at the height of his moment on LA Law. Are you kidding me?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Lisa Rinna
I was, like, beyond starstruck. That's why I was like. I wouldn't even look at him. I was like, no, no, no, no. I can't. I can't go here. He's Harry fucking Hamlin. I can't do this. No.
Kelly Ripa
And. But then. But then he's, like, so smart, so charming, so brilliant, so normal. So normal.
Lisa Rinna
He's normal. He's so normal. You know? He's normal.
Kelly Ripa
He's normal. It's, like, amazing. You really hit the jackpot. You both did.
Lisa Rinna
We both did. As did you.
Kelly Ripa
I know. I.
Lisa Rinna
We got lucky.
Kelly Ripa
I pinch myself every day, but. Can you tell the listeners the Michael Bolton story? Can you, please? It's like one of My favorites.
Lisa Rinna
It's really so good. So when, when Harry was married to Nicolette Sheridan, she. She doesn't admit to this, but it's. It's what we know. She left Harry for Michael Bolton, which is so crazy.
Kelly Ripa
So it's just so fucking crazy.
Lisa Rinna
I mean, you know, they'd been married 11 months, which is not very long. They're still newlywed. And Harry was up in our place in Canada, and he woke up in the middle of the night with a really weird feeling. Nicolette had gone back to LA for whatever reason, and he woke up in the middle of the night with this sinking feeling that something bad had happened. He called her and she didn't answer the phone in the middle of the night. And I believe this was like 1992. So that's before cell phones.
Kelly Ripa
That's a telephone. Like a telephone. You're not.
Lisa Rinna
That's a real telephone.
Kelly Ripa
Ring, ring loud. You don't miss it. Right?
Lisa Rinna
At 3am in the morning. And he went, oh. And he got on a plane the next morning and flew home. And he got to their house and she was not there. And she was with our. With Michael Bolton. And so the story goes. Cut to a couple years later. Harry and I are now married. So, what, six years later, eight years later, 10 years later, whatever it was. And we're going to the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills for dinner, okay? We're eating with some friends, and all of a sudden in the corner, I look over and there is Michael Bolton.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, my gosh.
Lisa Rinna
Now, he and Nicolette have since broken up and, you know, time has passed. We're married, we have kids now. I said on the show in one of my interviews, I said, you know, I have to thank Michael Bolton. Thank you, Michael Bolton. Because without Michael Bolton, I would not have this beautiful family. I would not have Harry Hamlin, I would not have these kids.
Kelly Ripa
Right, Right.
Lisa Rinna
Cut to cut to. I get up, I walk over to Michael Bolton's booth. I said, michael, I just have to thank you, you so much, because if it weren't for you, I would not have the beautiful family and the beautiful children that I have. And he looks at me, he takes my hands in his hand and he goes, you are so welcome. So it, I mean, it's. It's a classic in our household now. I mean, that's like an iconic moment.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, thank God for my. I'll never listen to When a Man Loves a Woman Again.
Lisa Rinna
Not the same way.
Kelly Ripa
Not the same way.
Jan Chalet
Did he give you advice on how to handle these women, like, because he seems so calm.
Lisa Rinna
Well, you know, he studied psychology in college. He wanted to be a psychologist. So he's very, he's very smart when it comes to that because he studied it. So he was able to help me get through it because he saw what was going on. He saw the narcissism, he saw everything. So he was to. Able, Able to help me get through it is how I would describe it.
Kelly Ripa
There is a lot of narcissism. I think, I think that it is par for the course to a certain degree. I mean, listen, in show business it's just part.
Lisa Rinna
We all are, you know, we all
Kelly Ripa
have par for the course.
Lisa Rinna
We all have narcissistic tendencies. If you're going to be an actor, come on.
Kelly Ripa
No, I'm just saying, like when it comes to reality tv, there are, are some people that literally have a complete lack of self awareness.
Lisa Rinna
Yes, of course, yes.
Kelly Ripa
And then you're like, oh, I wonder what stage that is. You know what I mean?
Lisa Rinna
Well, Harry, the first time brought out the DSM 5, which is the, the book that tells you. And I'd never heard of that before. And he was like, here, let's go through it. Here's this one, here's that one, here's this one. I was like, wow, okay. So we had a textbook that we were following.
Kelly Ripa
And did you diagnose, were you like in real time as you're dealing with some of the women, are you diagnosing them in your head?
Lisa Rinna
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
That's so helpful. Mark and I are like, we've been working on this All My Children movie for about 100.
Lisa Rinna
Really?
Kelly Ripa
150 years.
Lisa Rinna
What?
Kelly Ripa
Yes.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, that's exciting.
Kelly Ripa
Like, would you ever do something like that for Days of Our Lives?
Lisa Rinna
Yeah, because, you know, it's in your heart and soul. It's in your DNA, isn't it?
Kelly Ripa
It really is. I mean, I just like, I feel,
Lisa Rinna
yeah, I would, I feel bad in
Kelly Ripa
New York because there are no soaps here. And I mean, where do people learn how to act? Where do people learn how to be professional? Like we used to get the best theater actors like on their days off would come in. It was just like such a great experience. It's like we've been completely devoted to, for so long to bring this show back in some way, shape or form.
Lisa Rinna
That is so great. I didn't know you were doing that. That's amazing.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, yeah.
Lisa Rinna
Oh yeah. I'd go back in a second. I love Billy Reed. I, I love that world. We, we trained, we learned in that world. You know.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. And what was Robert Kelker Kelly like?
Lisa Rinna
Well, you'll have to read my book.
Kelly Ripa
I know
Lisa Rinna
you have to read the book.
Kelly Ripa
Save it for the page. Save it for the. Save it for the page. Albert has one question. Lisa.
Albert Bianchini
Lisa.
Lisa Rinna
Yes, Albert.
Albert Bianchini
Here it is. It's a. It is a curveball.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, what's your. Let me get ready.
Albert Bianchini
What's your final meal? No calories matter. Nothing matters. Your dream meal. You're sitting down. App. Entree. Dessert.
Jan Chalet
This is Albert's favorite question.
Kelly Ripa
Albert's only question. That he contributes to every calories mean nothing.
Lisa Rinna
Okay, I'm gonna have some pizza. I'm gonna have pasta. Like, basic. Just carb. Carb. And then I'm gonna have cake for dessert because I love cake. I'll have many kinds. I'll have red velvet. I'll have coconut. I'll have maybe some cookies on top of it. Maybe a chocolate sundae. I love dessert. That sounds good.
Kelly Ripa
Have you tried Harry sauce? Mm, mm, mm.
Lisa Rinna
It's good.
Kelly Ripa
Harry sauce.
Albert Bianchini
Pizza and pasta with Harry sauce.
Kelly Ripa
Harry sauce. Yeah, Sauce y.
Albert Bianchini
Delicious.
Lisa Rinna
Really good.
Jan Chalet
What's your appetizer?
Albert Bianchini
Yeah, what's your appetizer? What are you starting the meal with?
Lisa Rinna
Oh, a charcuterie board that is, like,
Kelly Ripa
on steroids with the soft cheese inside the soft cheese. Yeah.
Lisa Rinna
And. And the honey and the nuts and the. And the cranberry. All of it. And the truffle popcorn from wallies. I want a Wally charcuterie with truffle popcorn.
Kelly Ripa
Look up Wallies.
Lisa Rinna
And then to drink. I'm having any drink. Every kind of alcohol. You know, just everything. A martini.
Albert Bianchini
What type of martini?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, Albert makes a great martini.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, just a. A nice, very little bit dirty. Belvedere. It has to be Belvedere with olives.
Kelly Ripa
You know, you come out in the Hamptons in the summers, right?
Lisa Rinna
I have it for a while. It's time again.
Kelly Ripa
No, it's time again. It's time again. If you want to come stay with us, you can, because I want you. I think you should come to Sausage Fest. Rinna should come to Sausage Fest. We call it the meat gala. It's the Met Gala of Long Island. Albert. I'm coming.
Lisa Rinna
I'm coming.
Albert Bianchini
He has a bunch of really great sausages, but it's mostly gay men, so
Kelly Ripa
Kelly named gay men. It's gay men. I love sausage in bathing suit.
Lisa Rinna
I literally love. Oh, I want to come.
Albert Bianchini
By the way, the Wally's truffle popcorn is out of stock, so we're gonna
Kelly Ripa
have to wait a little while.
Lisa Rinna
Oh, no, that's all right. Well, I know some people.
Kelly Ripa
I just want to thank you so much for doing this podcast. You are the very best. I want to remind ourselves.
Lisa Rinna
I love you so much. Love you, love you, love you.
Kelly Ripa
I love you. Love you. I'll see you at our children's double wedding. Just kidding. Just kidding.
Albert Bianchini
Yay.
Kelly Ripa
I. I mean, they couldn't handle it, Lisa. They couldn't handle it. Forget it. Listeners, if you don't pick up this book, you better believe I'm going to talk about it. You're a. You're an idiot. That's how we're going to sell the book. No, seriously, if you want to be thoroughly entertained, you better believe I'm going to talk about it by Lisa Rinna. Make sure you pick it up. Thank you, Lisa. Good, good. Delicious piping. Some would say piping hot. Piping hot tea. And we'll talk with you all next week. Bye bye, everybody. Bye bye, Lisa. I love you. Love you. In this lively episode, Kelly Ripa sits down with longtime friend and TV icon Lisa Rinna for an unfiltered, hilarious, and surprisingly candid conversation. The pair dive into Lisa’s reality TV stardom—her run on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Traitors, her new memoir, family life with Harry Hamlin, her decades-long career in entertainment, friendship fallout, and what it really takes to thrive (and survive) in reality TV. The tone is playful, honest, and peppered with memorable confessions and quotables.
