One guy brought a rose and then asked if I would take a picture at the end of the date with him dipping me with the rose in my mouth.
Mark Consuelos
You know what that was about? That's the precursor to a cereal can. Somebody gonna cue me or do I cue myself?
Kelly Ripa
Cue yourself.
Mark Consuelos
Okay, Just trying to hear myself. Oh, it's so awful. And scene. We are back with season three of let's Talk off Camera. So let's get talking. Yes. It doesn't matter how many applause buttons we have on Seth's fancy machine, we're still gonna do our golf patter. Golf patter of four.
Albert Bianchini
That's right.
Mark Consuelos
Today's guest is the Aussie queen of comedy, Rebel Wilson. That's right. She is bold, she's brilliant. She steals every scene she is in. From Bridesmaids to Isn't It Romantic to the Hustle and of course, the Pitch Perfect movies. I love those movies. Oh, my gosh. She's not only an incredible comedic actress, she's also a writer, a producer. Albert, did you know that you're not the only producer in the world? She's a director and the author of the New York Times bestseller, Rebel Rising. Oh, wait. Did I fail to mention, Jan, that she also has a law degree?
Jan Chalet
I mean, it's insane. She studied law, too. It's insane.
Mark Consuelos
Oh, God. Did I mention that I have a law degree now that I watch Court TV constantly? I too, you could have a law degree at this point. And I find myself screaming at the computer screen, objection. Asked and answered.
Albert Bianchini
Yes. I would hire you to be my defense attorney in a heartbeat if I were Going into court.
Mark Consuelos
Oh, I would make a remarkable defense attorney. I also want to be the prosecutor, the judge, and the jury.
Albert Bianchini
But if I'm ever on trial, you better make yourself available.
Mark Consuelos
I'll get. I'll go to law school.
Albert Bianchini
I'm not speaking until Kelly, my attorney.
Jan Chalet
Gets here until she goes to law school and graduates.
Mark Consuelos
By the way. By the way, she also. Rebel Wilson, our guest, has another instant classic on her hands with her new summer musical movie, Juliet and Romeo.
Albert Bianchini
Amazing.
Jan Chalet
You know what else she has going on on her Instagram right now?
Mark Consuelos
Oh, that. A health challenge. A health challenge. Yes. Speaking of health challenges.
Albert Bianchini
Oh, yes, get into it.
Mark Consuelos
Albert and I had quite a health challenge. We had quite a health challenge in Italy. The challenge was to be as unhealthy as we possibly could.
Albert Bianchini
Why?
Jan Chalet
Yeah, why?
Kelly Ripa
Why?
Albert Bianchini
There were two subjects in America that we were.
Jan Chalet
Oh, yeah, we were being bullied.
Albert Bianchini
Trolled.
Jan Chalet
Lauren and I were being bullied. Lauren is Kelly's assistant.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah. And we were being the chief of staff.
Jan Chalet
We were being bullied by these two. And I didn't think you would get in on it, Kelly.
Mark Consuelos
No, no, I was trying to bully Albert. No, I was trying to bully Albert, and Albert wound up using it to, like, bully all of us. But where's my. Where's my iPad? I just had it. Oh, let me. I have to show.
Albert Bianchini
IPad. Get your iPad.
Mark Consuelos
I have to show you the best video I took of Albert that I did not send you. But I. Wait, let me just get it.
Kelly Ripa
Let me get it.
Mark Consuelos
This is the preeminent video. This is after our second breakfast, because we had breakfast at the hotel, then we had breakfast in the lounge. Or would you call that a brunch on the way home? Yes, it was on the way home. We had a brunch, and then they served food on the plane, which I'm assuming you had, of course. What did you have?
Albert Bianchini
I had the Asian shrimp or prawns.
Mark Consuelos
You had the Asian prawns. Okay, I'll get into it.
Albert Bianchini
They were delicious, by the way. To the point where I.
Mark Consuelos
Yes, everybody knows to eat seafood on a plane.
Jan Chalet
Food on an airplane.
Albert Bianchini
The point where even the broth that it was in, I was using the little spoon that you use to, like, stir the coffee just to slurp up the remaining broth.
Jan Chalet
Disgusting.
Mark Consuelos
And then we had a second meal on the plane.
Albert Bianchini
Oh, that's right. Then we had the ham and cheese sandwich, but that was TBD whether I was going to have it. And we only. You agreed to only have it because we heard that the Plane was being diverted to Bangor, Maine.
Mark Consuelos
Bangor, Maine.
Jan Chalet
Okay, just to bring everybody into this, this started with a trolling video from the airport lounge.
Albert Bianchini
So I show up to Newark airport. Kelly and Mark are already there. I sit down next to them, and there's a giant menu. And I turn to Kelly and I.
Mark Consuelos
Said, this is before we get on the plane.
Jan Chalet
I know.
Mark Consuelos
He ate more on the plane. He pre ordered his meal.
Albert Bianchini
I said to her, get your phone out. And then Kelly became director, Director of photography, sound engineer. She became everything.
Mark Consuelos
I busted my burger.
Jan Chalet
You ate a burger with fries?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Jan Chalet
You didn't leave one bite left over, and then you've gone on.
Albert Bianchini
I shared one French fry.
Jan Chalet
With what on the plane?
Albert Bianchini
Well, you had.
Mark Consuelos
You had the short ribs.
Albert Bianchini
I had the short ribs.
Kelly Ripa
Okay.
Jan Chalet
Eli Lilly, the maker of Manjaro.
Mark Consuelos
They've met their match.
Jan Chalet
On your hands.
Mark Consuelos
They've met their match.
Jan Chalet
Are you, like, just busting through what? I mean, you're on Mounjaro. At what point does your stomach say stop?
Mark Consuelos
Not on this trip. This trip. I was convinced that he forgot to take the Manjar.
Albert Bianchini
No, I took it.
Mark Consuelos
I know, but I was convinced you had forgotten.
Albert Bianchini
But it was all. But here's the thing.
Mark Consuelos
You ate your way through the man.
Albert Bianchini
I ate my way through it because I had a mission. In what? Just to make.
Jan Chalet
Just to bother me. The mission was to bother Lauren and I.
Albert Bianchini
To piss off you and Lauren with.
Kelly Ripa
All the food I was consum.
Jan Chalet
He's like, we just ate 10 fishes. I literally texted Lauren and I go.
Mark Consuelos
20 courses of fisheries.
Jan Chalet
What is it called you guys have on Christmas? The seven fishes.
Mark Consuelos
We wished. We wished for the seven fishes. It was Caligula. It was a nightmare. I was like, albert, you have to Google Translate. Because we. This is what happens if we go to a restaurant in Italy without Mark. And so Mark speaks for us, and Mark orders for us, and Mark does everything for us. We don't have to think suddenly here we are in a town because we're Americans. Forgive me for saying this, but because we are Americans, we expect the world to convert to English for us. And there are still pockets of Italy, of which Mul and Pescara are these two regions where people do not speak English. And they're like, you speak Italian. And so we were trying our best, and we were all communicating badly. We thought we had ordered a simple, you know, the seafood, the. The raw. What's the word I'm looking for? No, it's not crudite, but it's like crudite. It's It's a CR Word. Google it. Al. What happened was somehow in the mistranslation, every fish on the menu starts coming out raw. So we had, like, 15 courses of raw fish, and then the very exact same things start coming out cooked. And at that point, I said to Albert, I am begging you, Google Translate, how to make this food stop. And a loaf of bread came with every course.
Jan Chalet
Now, question, did he eat everything that came out?
Mark Consuelos
Not only did he eat mine, he ate his and mine. And. And.
Albert Bianchini
But there was a point where there was so much on the table that we. We ended up just having them taken away.
Mark Consuelos
We tapped out.
Albert Bianchini
And so this whole thing goes by. We are struggling. We are, like, hanging on for dear life, trying to communicate with this waiter. Every time he comes over, I'm smiling, I'm Google translating. He's saying, one minute he's walking away, and I'm thinking, he's gonna send someone over that speaks English and that understands.
Mark Consuelos
Well, the woman came over and said, this is the last course. Finally, she said to us, in English, perfectly, this is the last course.
Albert Bianchini
Right?
Mark Consuelos
And we were like, oh, thank God. And then all of the cooked food started coming out, and I was like, what is happening? What is going on? We can never eat without Mark again.
Albert Bianchini
So then we get the. Finally get the fish of the day, which was amazing. At this point, this is like just a grilled fish. That was the.
Mark Consuelos
And you had pasta?
Albert Bianchini
I have pasta.
Jan Chalet
Oh, God.
Albert Bianchini
So after this whole fucking, like, not being able to communicate, I go to the bar and I'm like, I'm gonna pay this check so that we can get out of here. Go up to the bartender, and I am like, now I got another person I gotta struggle with. And he said, oh, do you want the check in English?
Mark Consuelos
Imperfect English.
Albert Bianchini
Like, where have you been the whole fucking meal? We've been talking to this fucking asshole with Google Translate, and you've been behind the bar, and you just kind of walked out and told us what we were ordering.
Jan Chalet
Okay, but wait.
Albert Bianchini
And what's crazy about Italy in General?
Mark Consuelos
It was $30.
Albert Bianchini
It was like €30 in the US.
Mark Consuelos
Would have been like $7,000. But I was so nervous because it was like, production paying for this. And I'm like, these people are going to think we are monsters. Like, oh, production's paying, so we'll just order the feast of the 89 fishes. And, like, I was like, they've got to be out of fish. There is no other kind of fish.
Kelly Ripa
There's.
Mark Consuelos
I tapped out when they started serving the pickled fish. Then I was like, I'm done. I'm done.
Albert Bianchini
They brought over Mason jar Mason jars, like individual Mason jars with pickled fish in it.
Mark Consuelos
And I was like, here, Albert. Here, up.
Albert Bianchini
Here you go.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Albert Bianchini
And it was insane.
Mark Consuelos
But anyway, I digress. We leave. It's takeoff day. We are coming back. We have breakfast at the hotel, then we go to the lounge. And of course these assholes want to eat again, so they have the meal before they get on the plane. Because why. It had been two hours since we last here.
Jan Chalet
Do you have, like, a fear that, like, this is going to be your last meal? Like, what is the.
Albert Bianchini
No, you're in a. You're in a lounge and you're. There's a. There's some great food. You go to the fucking buffet and you eat the food.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Jan Chalet
We need to get you on her health challenge.
Kelly Ripa
That's it.
Jan Chalet
I think she's available.
Mark Consuelos
Oh, she's on.
Jan Chalet
Yeah.
Mark Consuelos
Oh, my gosh. What? We're just wasting our time here. There she is.
Kelly Ripa
Hi, Kelly.
Mark Consuelos
Rebel Wilson. Welcome to the podcast. So, Rebel, before you logged on, we were talking to one of my producers, Albert Bianchini. Albert, say hi.
Albert Bianchini
Hi, Rebel. How are you?
Mark Consuelos
You can put yourself on.
Kelly Ripa
Hi, Alberta.
Mark Consuelos
So she can see you.
Albert Bianchini
Okay, good.
Mark Consuelos
Okay. So Albert and I were just in Italy together.
Kelly Ripa
Ciao. Yeah.
Mark Consuelos
And we were trying to convince Albert to take your health challenge that you're doing.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, yeah, my six week Rebel health challenge. I just made it up. I'm not a medical expert or anything, but I just was feeling like, really, like a bit gross in myself. After Easter especially, I went wild on the Easter eggs. You know those Easter egg come in store, like three months before Easter.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, of course.
Kelly Ripa
They entice me. Every time I'm in the grocery store and I get them and I just started eating them and I was like, oh, my God, I've literally been eating Easter eggs as snacks every day. And I've been eating dessert after dinner every night. And you know what? They are two habits that I can do without. So in my six week challenge, I mean, up to week two, I just said, no chocolate and ice cream. It doesn't mean no. You know, there's. There's other, other things I can have, obviously, if I'm really desperate. But those two things, which were my biggest vices this year, I was like, trying to stay off them for six weeks and then do something positive every day for, like, my mental or physical health. And so this week, it's walking 10,000 steps every day, which I think I'm almost. Let me have a look. I'm at 9280.
Mark Consuelos
Have to get up and move around if you have to. I'll get. I'll like, sit stairs during this podcast.
Kelly Ripa
I might need to, but I've got. Climbed like 30 sets of stairs today, so.
Mark Consuelos
Oh, wow.
Kelly Ripa
That's pretty good. Yeah, there's stairs in my house.
Mark Consuelos
So. I really am into your health challenge, and I like the mental aspect too.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I, you know, your mental health really affects your physical health as well. And when I lost a lot of weight in 2020, I was, it was, it was definitely that mental element, which was the kicker that. That really made me transform my life because, yeah, definitely, it definitely is connected.
Mark Consuelos
And did people treat you differently? Did you find that people treated you differently when. When you lost weight?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, it was weird. Like, yeah, I. I got a ton of attention.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
And which I then probably reinforced because I started posting more photos on Instagram and stuff going, oh, you know, and then like millions of people would like it and, and, And I was kind of shocked with how much attention I got just for losing weight when I'd done so many things in my life. But then somehow that seemed to. To get so much attention. Like, I've got two degrees from university. I done a lot of great, great work as an actor and producer and everything. But that losing weight was the thing that, that people seem to be really interested in, but I kind of get it watched. Like, people that I really like, like Oprah and whenever she was doing an episode about weight loss or something, like, I'd be so intrigued. So I get. I kind of get the fascination with it.
Mark Consuelos
I think that people in general are. And this is. It goes beyond weight. I think any. Any transformation of any kind is riveting to people. I think we're such creatures of watching transformation or being. Being hypnotized by it, wondering if we could ever do it, if we could ever be brave enough or bold enough. No matter what the issue, no matter what it is, I'm always asking myself questions like, could I do that? Would I be able to do whatever it is that I'm witnessing?
Kelly Ripa
And it was actually something, Kelly, that I never thought I could do because I tried. You know, I tried before. I'd been on diets and things before, and I. It just. I always would lose a few pounds and then give up about the 10 pound mark and. And then you gain the weight back and whatever. And I never thought I could. Could keep it off long term. But really, I think the thing I did differently in 2020, like the year of COVID was basically I, I worked on my mental health side and, and on understanding the reasons why I was holding on to a lot of this weight. And a lot of it was kind of representational of emotional issues I was holding on to and hadn't kind of totally dealt with. And then once I kind of talked about that and kind of cleanse myself of a lot of those emotions, the weight came off. And I'm still not perfect. Like, I was still definitely an emotional eater, stress eater, and I'm not some like perfectly healthy person. And I, when I get stressed still, I'm still, you know, even happy news. I'm like, oh yeah, chocolate to celebrate. Like, let's have a cake. Like, I do use food to numb any kind of emotions still, but I'm just better at managing it. But, but I am proud of myself for doing that back then in 2020, before I knew what like GLP1s were or anything. I wish I did know about that st then and, but just like, yeah, did it with, with hard work and, and focus. And I shocked myself that I could actually do it because I always thought for being at like a medically obese person for most of my adult life, I didn't ever thought I could, could do that.
Mark Consuelos
And how do you feel? I mean, like, physically, I, I know emotionally it's always a roller coaster, but when you lose a tremendous amount of weight, I would think you would feel incredible.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, because I guess when I was very overweight, you live with this constant inflammation and pains that you almost forget about because it's with you every day. And so when I lost weight and didn't have that inflammation in my body, you just. I did feel like really incredible. But the biggest thing for me, health wise and was also a motivation for really doing it and doing it for good was to have a baby. And the fact that I was so physically after losing like 70, 80 pounds was so physically in amazing shape that I then got to have my daughter who's now two and a half, and it's just like a dream come true. That that was like the biggest thing because the doctors had said if I, you know, tried before in my health state, I just, I probably wasn't going to have a high chance of having a baby. And so the most amazing thing was that I, I got little Royce out of, out of all that health regime, which was like, well worth it. Definitely.
Mark Consuelos
You know, you got. We weren't Just in Italy, like we said before. You got married in Italy?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, I got married in Sardinia last September, which was gorgeous. Is such a beautiful island. And we thought, you know, no one will suspect us getting married there. And then I walk into the hotel lobby and there's Jacob El Lordy, who's like one of the most famous Australian actors. Yes. He's a real hunk.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
And he's there on the sea and so like, oh, my God. So the paparazzi like found us. Well.
Mark Consuelos
And we were like, oh, no, don't get it twisted. For sure they were going to find you anyway because you.
Kelly Ripa
We did have quite big white dresses on and there were two of us blondes. Maybe we would have stood out, I don't know.
Mark Consuelos
Did you write your own vows?
Kelly Ripa
Yes, I did. Yeah. But it's pressure when I work a lot as a writer as well, and I'm like, oh my God, for my own vows, what am I going to write? And the whole thing was just surreal because, you know, your family and all your close friends are there and. But then you're also getting photographed for Vogue whilst it's happening.
Mark Consuelos
So just like, I would think your wedding party would be a blast.
Kelly Ripa
We did have a blast because we had the night before at this place, Matsuhisa, you know, that Japanese restaurant. And we had a private fireworks display which is much more affordable than what you think. But you think, oh my God, that's going to cost like millions of dollars. It doesn't like if you, if you have the right hookup.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
You can get this beautiful, like fireworks display. They just had some around.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, of course.
Kelly Ripa
And got a gu do them. We played that song, the Final Countdown.
Mark Consuelos
The night before the wedding.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, it was. Oh, it was so cool. My family was going crazy as they're eating little mochi ice creams and watching the fireworks. But then after the wedding, we went to this amazing restaurant called Pedri Garden in Sardinia, which if you get a chance to go there, it's just like handmade pasta and fresh fish and chicken and just the most gorgeous food. And the people at the restaurant did like homemade desserts and. And then we had a band which just had knockout singers from all around the world. And so whilst everyone was eating and whatever, the singers would come out and sing these, you know, pop songs that we'd chosen and it was just fun. And then it led to an all out, like, concert at the end, but it was just full of singing. Yeah, but we just wanted to do that. We'd had a romantic Time in Sardinia, the time before we went there. And so we thought, oh, that'll be a nice romantic place to have our wedding. And it was. It was absolutely stunningly gorgeous and the best food ever.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, it's a magical place. Did you sing at your wedding? Did you sing?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, I thought about it. Weirdly, Ramona is the world's best singer. Okay. So she was almost represented lap there in Eurovision as a teenager. Like, she's that good. She was second one year and almost went in Eurovision. And then the other night, we're at Paris Hilton's house and Sia, you know Sia the singer, of course she sang. So they're doing karaoke. So Sia sings and then they're like, okay, who's gonna go next? And everybody's like, oh, no, I'm not gonna follow. Sia, one of the world's best singers. And then Ramona goes, I'll go. And then she gets up and just like, wows everybody. She's. She's actually is an incredible, incredible singer. But I just thought. I mean, there was so much pressure on the day anyway. I didn't think doing a number would we just dance. We had our dance, obviously, in front of everybody, but we. We didn't. We didn't do any live singing ourselves.
Mark Consuelos
You know, it's. It's funny because today's your. Today's your wedding anniversary, right, Jan. 25 years. 25 years Jan's been married.
Albert Bianchini
Amazing.
Kelly Ripa
And congratulations.
Mark Consuelos
And I can tell you, and Jan can tell you this, you're going to be shocked at how fast 25 years of your life goes by. You're gonna be. You and Ramona are going to look at each other and be like, wait, what? We just got married three days ago. But it's 25 years have passed.
Kelly Ripa
Well, we only just got the wedding albums and stuff. Yeah. You know where they send you the book and everything? We just got that in the mail. So. Yeah. God, maybe we'll blink and it'll be 25 years. Let's hope so, because we already blinked and our daughter's two and a half already.
Mark Consuelos
Isn't it amazing? And you're. You guys are big. You're big Disney people, right?
Kelly Ripa
Yes, we do love. Love a trip to Disneyland. We got engaged at Disneyland.
Mark Consuelos
Oh, you did?
Kelly Ripa
Right in front of the castle. Yeah. Which was really special. But it was on Valentine's Day.
Mark Consuelos
Was there a line of people getting engaged in front of the castle?
Kelly Ripa
So what they did is they cordoned off an area with topiary trees right in front of the castle. And weirdly, nobody saw. We had it all decorated with rose petals everywhere. Ramona had no idea. I went into the. To the bathroom of Club 33 and got mic'd up so we could. We could record it. Ramona just thinks, I'm going to the toilet. I'm getting my secretly mic'd up. There's violinists there waiting for the queue. And then we come around to the secret area and we. And I do the whole proposal. I only had 30 minutes in which to do it in. In the special area. And then they were going to open it back up to the public. And it was just. It was so awesome because Ramona was so shocked. She just thought we were going to Disneyland. I don't think anything. She thought I would propose there. And it was really fun.
Mark Consuelos
Were you dressed up? Were you. Did you happen to be dressed. No.
Kelly Ripa
You were very. In hindsight, I could have gave her a. I don't know, a hint or something, and we might have worn nicer clothes, but we were literally just in sweaters and jeans. Matching sweaters, though, which is kind of cute. And. And it was just a beautiful Valentine's Day, and we got engaged and then we just went on some rides.
Mark Consuelos
So fun.
Jan Chalet
She's part of that Club 33.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, I heard you say Club 33.

Jan Chalet
She's part of that Club 33.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, I heard you say Club 33.
Jan Chalet
What do we, what do you get that we don't get?
Mark Consuelos
Because we interviewed Bob.
Kelly Ripa
You work for abc.
Mark Consuelos
No, we do. We. We're like lifelong employees. I've worked there for a thousand years, Jan. So have you. We've all worked there a long time. We had Bob Iger on this here podcast and I was like, well, Bob's.
Kelly Ripa
The one that organized it, Kelly.
Mark Consuelos
I was like, bob, how do I get into Club 33?
Kelly Ripa
I think you should be able to get that. Also, the one perk I got as well, I got to sleep over at Disneyland one night on my 40th birthday.
Mark Consuelos
What?
Kelly Ripa
And Bob had a hand in that as well. And then so we, you know those little mobility scooters they have. So I'm cruising around Disneyland, like 3am there's nobody there. Just cruising around. Me and a couple of friends and.
Mark Consuelos
We got to sleep in the place.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, it was awesome. It was so cool. It's weird at night with no. But nobody else in there. It's really weird.
Albert Bianchini
Where did you sleep?
Kelly Ripa
So above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, they have an apartment that Walt designed, but he didn't live to see it be finished. And it's got these two amazing bedrooms, an Adventureland room, which is so cool. You press a button and a little train comes out of the wall and comes around the room. And then they've got another room where you press a button and like, mermaids come on the wall in a hologram. It's like, I think Mariah Carey stayed there when she got married there.
Albert Bianchini
Wow.
Kelly Ripa
It's. It's really cool. It's really cool. And they have a chef that comes in and cooks for you and stuff. I know, like, Robert Downey Jr. Got to stay there because there was, like, a little bit book and he had signed it. And then I think the person before was like, Lin Manuel Miranda. Yeah. So there are people that get to stay there.
Mark Consuelos
So wait, as a kid, though, weren't you told that you were a distant relative of Walt Disney?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, yeah. Which I still believe. I mean, I'm very happy to do, like, a DNA test.
Mark Consuelos
We should do it. Something, because we do DNA testing on.
Kelly Ripa
This show in a cup somewhere and. And prove it once and for all. But basically, my. My grandma told me, you know, right from when I could talk, that we were distant relatives of Walt Disney. And then my great aunt Lillian had married Walt, and so we had this thing called Saturday Morning Disney on Australian tv, and it would show Disney cartoons and it would show rides at Disneyland and just all things Disney. And so I would watch it every Saturday and just think, oh, yeah, like I'm part of that, or, you know, I'm related to that guy. And even though related by marriage, so technically. And so, yeah, my grandma took me when I was 11. It was my very first trip to America, and it was like the best thing ever. And then I think what happened is that she tried to get money out of Disney and then they go, no, no, no, you're not related by blood. You're only related by marriage. Or something happened like that.
Mark Consuelos
That's how you get the most money out of a of people.
Kelly Ripa
So we never got any money.
Mark Consuelos
You never got Disney money?
Kelly Ripa
No, no, no, never. And. But at least I went to Disneyland as a young kid, and that was so much. Oh, my God. Going as a kid. And, like, the Haunted Mansion was like, that was like, real scary. Like, I really thought it was, like, real ghosts at that age. And it was. It was just the best time.
Mark Consuelos
It's so funny. I realize as you're talking about Disney, my kids. My kids when they were young had the opposite. So they watched Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter, and they watched the Wiggles. That was their obsession. The goal was to get to Australia. That's what they wanted to do, was to get to Australia, to get to that Australia zoo. And they finally got. They got to go there and. And it was. Oh, yeah, it was so special. I think Australians know how to treat children.
Kelly Ripa
Oh, you mean by taking them to a crocodile farm?
Mark Consuelos
No, no. I mean, like, every shopping center we went to there was like, they had like, little amusements for the kids. It just seems like they're very mindful of children there.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, it is actually when. When I was just back in Sydney over the holidays. It is a very family friendly and it is a very good place to. To grow up. Definitely. Yeah. And there's playgrounds everywhere. It's very outdoor type of living and, you know, kids is very pretty, safe and everything. So kids love it.
Mark Consuelos
Before you and Ramona got married, you did A Year of Love, right?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, yeah. So I kind of. Because when I was losing weight in 2020, I called it, like, Year of Health.
Mark Consuelos
Yes.
Kelly Ripa
But I think it was the year before that I did another little personal experiment called the Year of Love.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Where I. I basically just said I. I really hadn't had a big love life or, or dating life, and if you read my book, you'll understand why. And. And so in 2019, I was like, okay, I'm gonna do A Year of Love, and anybody who asked me out, I'm gonna say yes. Unless they're, like, in prison, but otherwise I'm gonna say yes and I'm gonna give it a go and just put myself out there in the dating, in the dating world, because I was kind of a bit, bit scared of dating, I guess. And, you know, so it's so hard putting yourself out there when you're single. And so I go, I'm just gonna do it. And I think in that year, I went on like, I dated 50 different people.
Mark Consuelos
Wow.
Kelly Ripa
Which was huge from somebody who'd never really dated. And I mean, it was. It was really great. Like, it was. It was really good. Like, I didn't have any horror stories. I, like, one guy brought a rose and then asked if I would take a picture at the end of the date with him dipping me with the rose in my mouth.
Jan Chalet
Creepy.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
And then I stupidly did it.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
And then he never texted me back after the date. I don't know what?
Mark Consuelos
I'm glad, because you know what that was about? That's the precursor to a serial killer.
Kelly Ripa
So he said he worked in space tourism.
Mark Consuelos
Exactly. I rest my case. I rest my case. And do you know who that man is engaged to now? Lauren Sanchez. Let's just make a fun rumor.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. No, it wasn't. It wasn't Jeff Bezos.
Mark Consuelos
Are you sure? That's not what I am.
Kelly Ripa
Sure. This guy was like, 20 is younger, but. And good luck to him if he's out there. I hope he's found love. But basically, I just went on these dates, and weirdly, some were billionaires. Speaking of Jeff Bezos. It wasn't Jeff Bezos there, but somewhere. But some were like, yeah, one guy lived above a strip club with, like, three roommates in a small apartment. So it was like, you know, it was just this, like, thing. But I was genuinely looking for love, so I wasn't. I wasn't. You know, I was. I was.
Mark Consuelos
So you were letting. You were not closing any doors. You were leaving all doors open.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, And I was on a dating app, and I was also doing sociable things where. Where I would meet people, and if anybody showed any interest, I would go out with them. And it was actually a really good thing to do.
Mark Consuelos
But as a famous person, isn't it impossible to be on a dating app because everybody comes to the table knowing who you are?
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, well, the one I was on was Raya, which.
Mark Consuelos
The other famous.
Kelly Ripa
I think that's still around. Yeah, it was there. There are. It's not only, say, famous people, though. It's like, famous people adjacent, which could really be anybody if you think about it.
Mark Consuelos
Jan, we should go online.
Jan Chalet
I can get on because I know you.
Mark Consuelos
No, but you and I. I bet you and I would be matched to each other. Jan and I would wind up only dating each other because our. We're exactly alike.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. Well. And so my plot twist, though, Jan might be interested in this, is that at the end of the Year of Love, I went on a date with a woman. And I don't know whether I'd be. Would have been open to that if I hadn't have done this whole experiment. And I mean, that particular situation didn't work out, but if I hadn't have gone through that whole thing, I don't think my heart would have been as open to eventually meeting Ramona.
Mark Consuelos
And so it literally, that one date opened your eyes in a way.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, like that kind of. I guess you would call it a situationship is what the Young people call it like that, that kind of experience. Then I was like, oh, okay, maybe I interested in. In women as well. And then that was kind of, I guess, the gateway, I guess you'd call it, to. To. Then two years later, my friend introduced me to Ramona, and I. I just. I would never have thought twice about a romantic relationship that if I hadn't have had the thing in my year of love.
Mark Consuelos
But then when you met Ramona, did you know instantly was there an instant attraction?
Kelly Ripa
It's weird. So I met Ramona over text, and then we started voice texting because I was in Fiji shooting a commercial, and. And then I. It's weird, but I, like, kind of fell in love with her voice, with doing these voice texts. And then we started FaceTiming, and it was about two weeks until we met up finally in Los Angeles, and we already had just had this really strong connection. We were talking on the phone for hours, and it was kind of very old school because we had all this communication before we actually met. And then, yeah, like, pretty. Very instantly I was like, yep. And she was like, yep. You know, kind of within hours of meeting. It was kind of strange.
Jan Chalet
Did you already want a child before you met her? And was that, like. Is that, like, a concern that maybe she wouldn't want kids? Or did you vet that out early?
Kelly Ripa
So I'd already been planning to have a baby, and I'd, you know, I'd had an embryo and was already planning to have a baby by a surrogate. So very, very, very early in dating. Like, three months into dating Ramona, I had to tell her. So I have a surrogate, and it turns out the surrogate's pregnant. So. Which was a huge thing to say. Three months into a new relationship, and Ramona just turned to me, was sitting at my kitchen table, and she said, I love you, and I'm gonna love your child just as much. And it was so. Like, I was so shocked. She. It's like she didn't even think about it. She just went, oh, that's an amazing news. And that's kind of incredible.
Mark Consuelos
And.
Kelly Ripa
And then I thought, oh, yeah, but did she really think that?
Mark Consuelos
And then.
Kelly Ripa
She has been the best mother. She. I mean, she's way better than me. She's the most kind, caring, nurturing. And I was. I was so lucky. She was. She. At one point, she wasn't going to be in the delivery room, and then the surrogate's like, no, bring her. You know, bring her in. I want her. I want her there. And so she was there with me at the very first second when Roy said he slid out of the surrogate and. And we were both there holding our little hands. And I just, I. I couldn't imagine it any other way now. It was kind of fate, I think.
Mark Consuelos
Surrogates, amazing people. Don't you find them to be, like, the kindest?
Kelly Ripa
She was the kindest, warmest. A lady who had, I think, four children of her own and enjoyed being pregnant. And, and it was just. I had a. I had one embryo and I had a much higher chance of it developing into a healthy baby if I had a surrogate because of. I was in my 40s and she was just the best. And I did. Kelly. I did give her a VIP trip to Disneyland.
Mark Consuelos
You did? Did she go to Club 33 and stay in the special room?
Kelly Ripa
No, you know, no, she did. I'm pretty sure she went to Club 33. But just as an extra, extra thank you. I gave the whole family a trip, a trip to Disneyland. Because how do you thank somebody that's just given you the best thing in your whole entire life? And I cannot. I mean, obviously I'm not going to say her name for privacy reasons, but, like, she is the most incredible woman. And she's just. It's like a miracle what she did. And her. The surrogate's mother knitted Rosie a little blanket, and then she made a little collar of some of the ultrasound pictures when she was pregnant. Like, I just couldn't have asked for a better surrogate. And the whole experience was just really great.
Mark Consuelos
You know, it's funny, I have several friends that have had their families with surrogates and they've used the same surrogates for, like, multiple children. And these surrogates have already had their families. And the one big takeaway is that the surrogate's family think it's so, you know, invested in the outcome. They are so thrilled to be able to provide what they have to somebody else, I think.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. And it's such a loving gift. And to me, it was, it was such an amazing experience because I didn't have a lot of. A lot of chances being over 40 and, and then this was my best shot at having a child by having a surrogate. And it just, I mean, it couldn't have worked out better. It was just. It was just incredible. And I mean, in, in, in awe of her because she, I mean, she just gave birth like a champion. I was like, I don't know how she, how she did that. I would have been screaming no, but.
Mark Consuelos
I think it's her fifth one, so. Jan. I mean, Jan.
Kelly Ripa
The babies just literally slid out like a water slide.
Mark Consuelos
It's unbelievable.
Kelly Ripa
It was insane to watch. It was insane.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, Mine. Mine had to be removed forcibly. And I swear they were using excavation equipment that they usually use when they exhume a body. My children were exhumed from me because they just would not come out conventionally.
Jan Chalet
But here's the thing. I was barely conscious when they put my babies in my arms. But you were fully, like, awake.
Mark Consuelos
What was that like?
Jan Chalet
To be present in that moment and have a baby in your arms? That must have been insane.
Mark Consuelos

In the summer, all of Oregon is our playground, thanks to our incredible park system. That's why it's so cool that Oregon lottery gameplay, like video lottery or cash pop, helps support tons of parks projects statewide, like accessible trails at Silver Falls State park or upgrades to your favorite park dog park in Newburgh. It's just one way a little lottery play for many Oregonians can add up to a lot of good the Oregon Lottery. Together, we do good things. Lottery games are based on chance and should be played for entertainment only. Must be 18 or older to play.
Mark Consuelos
What was that like present.
Jan Chalet
Be like present in that moment and have a baby in your arms. Must have been insane.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, it was. It's insane because an hour before you don't have a baby, and then all of a sudden you have a baby. And because I guess if you're physically pregnant, I mean, you know, you can feel that it's growing inside you. And then. And then with me, even though I knew logically when the baby was coming. And you get to choose the day and even the time when the baby's born, which. Ramona carefully studied the astrological charts to choose. Choose what hour Royce should be born in, which is kind of cool. That's a certain star sign. Yeah. And then it's kind of freaky because being a first time mother, you don't know what to do, and. Which I guess is probably normal if you've had the baby yourself as well.
Mark Consuelos
Yes. It doesn't matter if it slides out of you or if it's handed to you. Once they handle you a baby that's you're a mom and if you're a first time mom, you have no idea what is.
Kelly Ripa
No idea. And then we had no sleep for like two nights because we're checking if she's breathing. I don't know why we're upset. Like, because she was so tiny. She was only five pounds. And we were just like, you're just checking she's all right and what to do and looking at her. And it was like two nights of exhausting, those, you know, no sleep. And, you know, it has been a bit exhausting since then. But it's. It's also so beautiful and amazing and everything she does is like, really like, wow. Wow. And so she just started a little nursery school this week and so. And she has a little teacher and stuff. Like, you know, and it's just everything she does the. But I think when she was born, it was just such a shock to the system because life before that, me being a performer, is kind of very solely based around me. And. And then now you have this wonderful baby in the house and everything revolves around her now. Like, you can't just leave the house and go out. Like, it has to be this whole level of communication and organization to go out. You have to get the baby bag ready and plan all these. Like, it's just like, it just changes your life forever.
Mark Consuelos
I don't know if you and Ramona were like Mark and me, but when they handed us our baby and we were leaving the hospital, we turned to each other and Mark said to me, I can't believe they're gonna let us walk out of this hospital with a baby.
Kelly Ripa
I know, because nobody.
Mark Consuelos
Like, we think we should be tested. Like, we're not competent. I can't believe that they're just gonna let us walk out with this baby.
Kelly Ripa
I didn't. I honestly, like, I just didn't know what to do. We did have to have a lady come in to teach us, like, how to feed the baby properly and how to train the baby how to sleep and. And those things, because otherwise, like, how would you know? But. But I will say Ramona's like a super mother and she cooks all Royce's meals, like, from scratch. And, you know, she's. I don't know, she watches videos on TikTok and things and gets ideas and she's just really. I Don't know.
Mark Consuelos
You know what, Jan? It's easier now because we don't.
Jan Chalet
We didn't have the videos.
Mark Consuelos
We didn't have any of that. We had to go and buy literature at a bookstore and then ask our mothers, who had no idea. Like, I talked to my mom. I was like, so when the baby comes, is it gonna hurt? Like. And my mom was like, I don't remember. I don't know. She's like, I. She's like, I just know I went to pee one night and your head was there. And I'm like, what? You know, I truly. So we had nothing except just us talking to each other. There was no TikTok. There were no videos. There was nothing to, like, prepare you for anything, really. Just books.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, I remember there was a. There must have been that book, what to Expect when youn're Expecting.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Because then I was in the movie version of that.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, right. There was that book, you know, which, by the way, it really doesn't. Doesn't tell you what to expect. None of what you should expect is in that book. I want to talk acting for a minute. Is there any world in which the Bellas get together for a pitch perfect 4?
Kelly Ripa
Well, we. Always getting together, Kelly. It's just like, no one's filming it for a movie.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah, but you need to film it for a movie, and I think you should direct it.
Kelly Ripa
I know. Well. Well, okay, here's the crazy thing. A lot of us Bellas are now directors. So I was just in London with Anna Kendrick. She's a director now. Britney Snow's a director. Elizabeth Banks, who's in the movie as well, also directed the second Pitch Perfect. Like, it's crazy. There's so many of us that have. That have gone on to do that.
Mark Consuelos
I think it's the most talented ensemble cast of women ever. I truly. Because you're all.
Kelly Ripa
Well, Bridesmaids was pretty epic. Those Bridesmaids were pretty good. But, yeah, Pitch Perfect is still, I still, I believe, the highest grossing musical comedy film of all time.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. And. And I think in the top 10 female driven comedies, I think, yeah, there's Picture Perfect is like 2 and 3 out of all time. So. So they've done. They've done really, really well. And there should be a fourth one. Like, how many Fast and Furious movies were there? I mean, like, 119.
Mark Consuelos
Seven of them. At least 27, 28. I mean, every time we have, like, cast members on, I have to read the title of the Fast and Furious or still Fast and still furious or too fast. Too furious or fast yet not furious. And I'm like, oh, my God.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah. So hopefully we, we do hope that they, they did they make another one. But yeah, I was talking about this to Anna the other day. Like, God, who would they pick to direct it? Because now there's, there's quite a few of us. But I think she was saying I should, but maybe she was just being nice.
Mark Consuelos
No, I think you should.
Kelly Ripa
I don't know. I was like, yeah, but Kelly, being an actress is like having a holiday compared to directing. You know, directing is, you know, all the, all the weights on your shoulders. So it's a pretty salon, so I'd be happy with either.
Mark Consuelos
Can we talk about Juliet and Romeo?
Kelly Ripa
Oh, yes. So. So this is a movie I've got coming out. Well, I think it comes out in cinemas May 9th.
Mark Consuelos
May 9th, yeah.
Kelly Ripa
So soon it's coming up and it's kind of Romeo and Juliet, but a pop musical version. And I play completely against type and play Lady Capulet, Juliet's mother, which is so. I love. I go from it, I go from playing college to playing the mother of Juliet like that before you logged on.
Mark Consuelos
I was laughing to Jan. I go, wait, wait, Rebel Wilson is playing the mother of Juliet. Like Hollywood is. It is so nuts. It's so crazy. Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Now that I'm a mother, I play mother roles of any age. Daughter Kelly, like, yeah. Sometimes I think, oh, my God, I was this shy girl from Sydney. And then now I do. I, I did follow my dreams. I had a malaria induced hallucination when I was 18 that I was going to become an actress. And at the time everyone thought I was an idiot for following that. And then they said, no, no, no, you're smart, you should go to university. And. And I did end up going to university, but secretly doing acting at night and trying to have an, like a.
Mark Consuelos
Superhero like law degree during the day, acting by night.
Kelly Ripa
My life was hectic. That's why when I say I had no love life.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
Because I was. Yeah, I was doing law school acting and then trying to support it all by working these casual jobs.
Mark Consuelos
Do you negotiate your own contracts?
Kelly Ripa
I definitely used to. I definitely used to until I got told by my, you know, talent agents here, you know, maybe stop doing it because it's a bit weird. Also, that's all the one on the phone.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah. Well, they have to justify their percentage, I guess. So it's threatening to them.
Kelly Ripa
Like, you can do that. I'd be on a group call saying, Everybody, I'd like to address the wording of subclause 5.1. And you know, and, and you know, and I just like. And people just couldn't believe it because I was just comedian at the time.
Mark Consuelos
A comedian, a comedic actress who's read her contracts.
Kelly Ripa
A lot of those early good deals I got was because of myself.
Mark Consuelos
Yeah.
Kelly Ripa
And. Yeah, a lot of. And I had my first TV show in Australia and did the deal for it myself. And yeah, it was, it was really. That's really awesome. I'm glad I kept it up. But yeah, nobody would have thought that that girl would have turned out now to be on movie sets all around the world.
Mark Consuelos
So glad. Rebel, thank you for doing our podcast. We really appreciate it. We look forward to seeing Julia and Romeo and everything.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah, check it out. It's really, it's. It's real gorgeous, actually. So go see it in the cinemas and hear it with the amazing surround sound. It's. Yeah, it's cool. And then see me in Bride Hard in June. Kick ass with my friend Anna Camp from Pitch Perfect. And yeah, we played besties in it and. Yeah. And then got so much more coming. Coming down the pipeline.
Mark Consuelos
Can't wait. We'll see you soon. Thank you so much.
Kelly Ripa
Yeah.
Mark Consuelos
Bye. Bye.
Kelly Ripa
Thanks for the awesome chat, guys. Lots of.
Mark Consuelos
What more do you want from me? Jan, that was great. I love her.
Jan Chalet
Yeah, you guys are fun together. I would like to see the both of you together doing a couple of things. Okay.
Mark Consuelos
Okay.
Jan Chalet
I want to see you guys do the Disney together.
Mark Consuelos
I don't. I am beside myself. I don't even know what to say.
Jan Chalet
Bob Iger on the phone.
Mark Consuelos
I mean, get him on the phone right now. Did you hear that? That's Bob Iger at the door.
Albert Bianchini

Podcast: Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa
Host: Kelly Ripa
Guest: Rebel Wilson
Release Date: June 4, 2025
Mark Consuelos opens the episode with a dynamic introduction of the guest, Rebel Wilson, highlighting her multifaceted career as an actress, writer, producer, and director. He praises her roles in popular films such as Bridesmaids, Isn't It Romantic, The Hustle, and notably, the Pitch Perfect series. Mark emphasizes Rebel's versatility and creative prowess, stating, “She's not only an incredible comedic actress, she's also a writer, a producer... and the author of the New York Times bestseller, Rebel Rising” ([02:32]).
The conversation shifts to Mark and Albert Bianchini's recent health challenges in Italy, where they humorously recount their attempts to overindulge in unhealthy eating. Mark shares a memorable moment: “One guy brought a rose and then asked if I would take a picture at the end of the date with him dipping me with the rose in my mouth” ([01:03]). This anecdote sets the tone for their lighthearted banter about their dietary misadventures.
Albert reflects on their health challenge, revealing the duo's mission to "be as unhealthy as we possibly could" ([03:33]). The trio discusses their experiences, including battling language barriers in Italian restaurants, leading to comically excessive servings of fish courses ([07:03]).
Midway through the episode, Mark introduces Rebel Wilson formally after a humorous interlude involving a virtual meeting hiccup. Rebel joins the conversation, and the hosts express their excitement about her appearance. Mark remarks, “Rebel, thank you for doing our podcast. We really appreciate it” ([53:01]).
Rebel Wilson delves into her personal health journey, detailing her six-week Rebel Health Challenge aimed at eliminating sugary treats like chocolate and ice cream to improve her mental and physical well-being. She shares her daily goals, such as walking 10,000 steps, and reflects on the mental aspects of weight loss: “I worked on my mental health side and understanding the reasons why I was holding on to a lot of this weight” ([12:14]).
Mark connects this to broader themes of transformation, noting, “I think that people in general are... creatures of watching transformation” ([14:51]). Rebel emphasizes the importance of mental health in achieving her goals, stating, “I am proud of myself for doing that back in 2020... with hard work and focus” ([17:19]).
The discussion transitions to Rebel Wilson’s personal life, particularly her marriage in Sardinia. She recounts the magical experience of marrying off the beaten path and the unexpected encounter with paparazzi, saying, “We thought, no one will suspect us getting married there” ([19:03]). Mark humorously contrasts their covert wedding with Rebel’s high-profile experiences: “We thought, no one will suspect us getting married there” ([19:24]).
Rebel shares heartfelt moments from her wedding, including writing her own vows and enjoying a private fireworks display: “We played that song, the Final Countdown” ([20:10]). She reminisces about the joyous atmosphere and the beautiful setting of Sardinia, highlighting the fantastic cuisine and live entertainment that made the event unforgettable ([20:15]).
Rebel discusses her "Year of Love," a personal experiment where she committed to saying yes to anyone who asked her out, leading to 50 dates. She candidly shares both the humorous and challenging aspects, including a particularly odd date that involved a man claiming to work in space tourism: “And then he never texted me back after the date” ([34:27]).
This period was pivotal for her personal growth and eventual meeting with her partner, Ramona. Rebel explains how this experience opened her heart and led to a meaningful relationship: “If I hadn't have gone through that whole thing, I don't think my heart would have been as open to eventually meeting Ramona” ([36:18]).
A significant portion of the discussion centers on Rebel Wilson’s journey to motherhood through surrogacy.
