Hey, I'm Molly Sims. And I'm Emisha Gormley. We're two girls obsessed with one thing. Beauty. And by that, we mean everything that makes you look and feel beautiful. We're calling on our favorite health experts, industry insiders and friends to answer all your beauty questions with a drink in hand.
B
Definitely with a drink in hand.
A
You're listening to Lipstick on the Rim with Molly Sims.
B
Molly, I want to ask you something. What does your nightstand look like right now? Are we talking melatonin, Magnesium? A tincture, Sleep gummy? All of the above. Because mine, honestly, has changed so much over the last few years. And I honestly, I don't think I'm alone in that. When I talk to my girlfriends.
A
You are not. Okay, so there's magnesium, there's gummies, and there are a lot of options. But a lot of things have changed and there is a lot of noise. Emisha, who has been so open and so transparent of everything she's gone through in the past three plus years, has kind of gotten me on to a new thing, which we're gonna talk about. Today's theme, it's cbd, the wellness move everyone is making right now. We're gonna have on Nicola and James Stevenson. You've heard them. Yes.
C
Oh, ho.
A
Emisha found them. We discovered a whole new brand that's gonna actually make you feel better, sleep better, stress less, have more energy, literally all of it. We're gonna talk to them in a few minutes, but we kind of wanted to dive in. Sleep, I think it's probably the number one topic. I feel like we're old. I think our parents used to talk about the weather. And now it's like we talk about, are you sleeping? I am not sleeping. I wake up at 3 o'. Clock. I sweat, I stress. There's a lot going on between the hours of 10 o' clock and 3am
B
I find sleep for me runs a. It's obviously very hormonally driven is what I have. You know, I started to realize and then confirmed with my doctors perimenopause around the time of ovulation, my sleep is completely messed. It's either I don't fall into a deep sleep at all, and I feel like I'm awake all night and just kind of drifting in and out. Or like you, Molly, I'll wake up at three in the morning and then I'm wide awake and never can sleep fully. Spiraling, spiraling. And it's like when you start to think about how you can't sleep, then, like the lack of sleep begets the lack of sleep.
A
You can't sleep at all.
B
It's awful. You know, in our relationship, I am the one that started the path of exploring different gummies to sleep because I was chewing Xanax at night to sleep like it was candy.
A
Well, you were also going through a lot. There's no pressure, there's no judgment. I remember years and years ago, people were like, oh, just take Ambien. And then ambient would make you eat and you can't remember it. And then it was like a whole thing and everybody stopped taking it. And then I have to say, magnesium coming into my life has made a massive difference.
B
Totally. A hundred percent, but it's. It.
A
I don't think it's enough.
B
Game changer, for sure, if you're consistent with it.
A
But I don't think it's enough.
B
I agree with that too.
A
Because of Imisha, I have started to lean in. So Imisha came to shoot Lipstick on the Rim about a month and a half ago. We were block shooting because we were leaving for spring break. We had to get our episodes done. And I had come back from a trip, and I walk in her room and literally, she was like, I'm going to bed. It's like 10 o' clock and she's still dead asleep at 7am I'm talking pitch black in my guest bedroom, the sound machine, and she's out. I'm like, what? How on earth did this happen? She was like, you're. You gotta take this. Cut to. I'm like, I don't know. Does it have cbd? Is it thc? Like, what is it? And she's like, just take it. You said, like, only take half.
B
I said, don't take the whole. Take half to start. Ease into it.
A
Take half to start. But it was like, dark cherry. She knows I love a dark cherry. Whatever. I loved anything cherry. Anyway. Cut to. I'm like, okay. I'm take it. Then I'm like, this is so good. I took the whole thing. I didn't sleep at all. I was paranoid, sweating. I could not sleep. I felt high. I wouldn't take my kids to school. I did not have a good experience.
B
I was so excited when you woke up. I was like, did you have the best sleep ever? And you were like, I. I was
A
like, you drugged me.
B
I'm.
A
I was like, I'm gonna kill you. I've been reading about this, and I find it genuinely interesting. There was a Harvard study published in the Journal about menopause that shocked me. They looked at women in perimenopause and post menopause and found that nearly 79% were using cannabis to manage their symptoms. 79% of those, 67% said it helped with sleep. 46% said it helped with mood and anxiety. I read that and I thought, okay, there's something real happening here. Literally, this is our entire friend group now. People are popping gummies. They're not drinking. It's helping with sleep. And so this researcher explained it works by dimming the prefrontal cortex, the decision making part of your brain, which, even as a skeptic, I have to admit, sounds exactly like what you need at 11pm for your decisions. Committee meeting adjourned. I am on this path. I do not know what it looks like, but I am super excited to discuss it today. I'm not gonna lie. I need to turn this mommy brain off.
B
We. We really do. And it's something that I think, thank God we're having a conversation. And thank God there's these tools that are able to help us, because for me, if I don't sleep, I'm wrecked.
A
Well, you were talking about some of your friends who were, like, not drinking, and they're like, okay, we're gonna do well. I guess it was cbd, right?
C
Cbd.
B
Some people do mushrooms. You know, the chocolate mushrooms. Like, I think it's just we. We live in such a different world now where we're talking about things more openly, where, you know, even just being able to sit here and have this podcast and be like, hey, we're going to talk about cbd.
A
Gummies are not a taboo subject anymore. And I think before it was so taboo.
C
It's.
A
It's looked upon. But if you look at these studies, that's a Harvard study that I just talked about. Like, there's so many studies out there and the benefits of cannabis, the benefits of cbd, the benefits of so many things that are just not manufactured hardcore. Like what you were doing. Xanax, ambient.
B
Like, the whole thing, the alcohol piece, I think is really interesting too. Cause I feel like, you know, I stepped away from drinking wine. And I actually this past weekend, after having been in Mexico and having copious amounts of tequila, I was like, I can't look at a margarita again. And so I had wine for the first time in a really long time. And I woke up the next morning with such a raging headache. I was like, I. I felt off the entire day. So I think the fact that now there's all these different gummies that you can Take to chill out, to sit on the couch, or to be social. Like, there's. There's brands out there. And it's why I'm so excited about the founders that we have on today. They're creating these little things for us that make us not feel like crap the next day. Like we're able to get what we want out of it.
A
You guys, they flew in from New York. She was in Chicago because their brand is blowing up. It's called oho. We have Nicola and James Stevenson, founders of oho. That's O H, H O. And their Instagram is We are oho. We'll spell it out in the show notes. But they came to functional wellness through their own cancer diagnosis and recovery. One of the most personal and compelling origin stories in the wellness space, which they're going to talk about. Formerly in London. Amazing. Now they're in Bedford, New York. We are so excited to have you. We're going to pick your brain about everything. We have so many questions. We are so happy to have you guys. Nicola James Oho is now our new best friend. She literally got. She was like, we've got to have them on. They're such a cool couple. She told me your origin story, which we're gonna talk about. But yes, cbd, the world of wellness, it's just a whole new era.
D
So tell us what you took. What happened there?
A
It was just drugged.
C
Me.
A
I actually don't even know. I think you got it at some.
B
I went to a dispensary in New Jersey and literally was like, I just need to try something strong. And so I had a girlfriend. Tell me about this dispensary. I went and it was a 10 milligram THC. Sleep gummy. Specifically for sleep.
A
I mean, it.
B
It.
A
It probably should have taken five.
D
Oh, my God.
C
It takes off and you never take it anymore.
A
I could never. I mean, like, it was. So anyway, it got us to you
D
and you're still here.
A
And I want to. Exactly. I want to talk about oho because it doesn't look or feel like anything else in this space. But I want to go back. I want to start at the origin. London media world ended up building a wellness brand. Now you're in upstate New York. Walk us through that. Because honestly, it's not an obvious path.
D
No. Maybe start in London. That was kind of you.
C
So James came home one day and we had just moved into this beautiful house outside of the country with two small boys, and he's like, I think we should move to New York. And I think my first question was, like, with the dark, I didn't even think about the dog.
D
We had a small office here already that we'd already launched.
C
And I was like, with the dogs? And he's like, yes. And the children. And I was like, like, all of us. I was like, so we're all moving. We did not always work together. So I had started an agency a million years ago, and we used to do a lot of work for lvmh Marketing PR experiential, what people call influencer marketing today.
A
Can I hire you?
C
All the things done. And they had asked us to open a little office in New York, and we had been done the back and forth thing. Jay had just sold a bake. Never go into the bakery business. It sounds so romantic.
D
That's not an easy business.
C
But we get to New York, and I say to Jay, what are you gonna do? You know, when we get there? You're gonna open. You know, what are you gonna do? And Jay's like, I'm gonna, like, take the kids to school, and you're gonna be back and forth, and we'll just play it by ear. And then we had been here literally six months, and I got diagnosed with cancer. So that was a while. So we were like, do we go home Anyway? So we stayed here.
A
What kind of cancer do you know?
C
I had tongue cancer.
A
Really?
C
And I don't smoke. I've never smoked. I don't really drink. So if ever you have a mouth ulcer for anyone who's listening and it doesn't go away, get it checked out. So I was treated here at Sloan Kettering, who were amazing, and they saved my life. Yeah, they cut out a third of my tongue. That's okay. But no one will ever know.
D
We're still here around the same time. I've been looking at the cannabis space because obviously when we got here, it was just starting to legalize, and we sort of invested in a friend's company here in California, one of the kind of first marijuana brands that actually did quite well. So we put a tiny bit of money in, and it kind of really piqued my interest. And then I sort of started discovering cbd, and that was like, pre actually being legalized. You had to go and buy it in, like, health food stores, and it was locked away in a cabinet, and I started using it, and it was really kind of helping with, like, post recovery, after the gym and that anxiety. There was obviously a lot going on
A
at the time, a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety. I Mean, that's where Imisha, her daughter, had lymphoma. And with her story, it was kind of the same thing. It was. She was in hospital, not sleeping. Every time she tried to sleep, the noise, the beeping, the. Just the sheer stress of what she's. What is she gonna wake up to? She's. You know, she started using Xanax, but she had to sleep. And, you know, at that time, you get into something and you kind of don't know. Right. I think now we're starting to know.
C
Right.
D
And that's. Yeah. The awareness now is where we find ourselves. People are much more cognizant to what they're taking.
C
And back to Emma. I think everyone thinks about the patient, but the patient doesn't really know what's. I mean, I certainly didn't really know what was going on, but the caregiver who is picking up the pieces, and you just found it really.
D
Yeah, it was helped.
C
You really helped with, you know, just settling everything down. Right.
A
In a way, just calming things. That's when most of our friends that I talk to who use it, whether to sleep or for anxiety or stress or just joint recovery, like, as you were saying, for muscle, it's just. It's calming.
D
So I started using one the kind of very early brands. It was amazing. And then it kind of really piqued my interest initially in my naivety. I wanted to open to a marijuana brand in California, and thank God I didn't do that. And then kind of realized that I could launch CBD nationally because it had been legalized in 2018. So then we spent a year trying to find the right farms, the right extraction partners, and the right people to work with. And then in, like, 21 or 20. Yeah. We launched with our first two products. So amazing, which were two tinctures.
A
And what did they do?
D
One was for sleep, and one was for kind of use in the day for post recovery. And just anxiety.
C
And that watershed moment, I think, of everything that happened. You know, when your life is completely turned upside down, when you're sort of at Soul Cycle one morning, and then the next day you're. You know, everything just changes. And so we saw the agency, and that did not go well. That's a story for another time. That's a story for a glass of wine.
D
That was not a good ending.
C
And James was like, I really, really, really want to do this, and, you know, we should do it together.
D
We realized there wasn't a lot of good on the market at the time as well. It all Looks very much the same.
A
A lot of it is marketing, right? Yeah, right. A lot of it is. That's what Emisha always says. She was like, I'm telling you, this brand is so good. And I mean, we're going to talk about it, but your ethos is process, not profit, herbal, not artificial. And what does that look like in practice when you're formulating a product? So you talked about your first two tinctures. Like, what were you going for? Just as real as you can get it.
D
Yeah. We quickly realized that it wasn't just the cbd. It was a combination of what we call full spectrum. So you have to have some THC in there as well. So from day one, we had thc, always had THC in our products.
A
And explain what THC is to our listeners.
D
It is a cannabinoid that is present in the cannabis plant and mostly associated with the intoxicating side of. Of cannabis. That's what makes you high. In simple terms, CBD is actually acts as an antagonist to the thc. So without THC can make you, you know, if you're not used to it, can make you very high. It smooths the whole experience out. And then you get all these other minor cannabinoids as well, which we can talk about, which do all sorts of amazing things. We're still learning about this plant up to thousands of years.
A
Isn't it amazing?
D
It's unbelievable.
A
I mean, if you were to say THC three years ago, you'd be like, what are you, a drug addict?
D
Yeah, right.
A
And it's just not that, it's not that anymore. Like, there are massive medical and wellness benefits for longevity. Like, we're sitting here talking about, walk us through how plant based ingredients actually work in the body. Like how. And we're gonna. I wanna go through all the products because I think a lot of times people wanna try it. They just don't know where to start. Yeah, like, is it a gummy? Is it a drink? Is it a tincture, Is it a powder? Is it a. Right, Emisha, don't you agree?
B
I. For me, I think the narrative has to shift. I think that when you start, you know, I think we're getting there. But for, you know, older generations, perhaps, if you're like, I want to take a gummy to sleep. Are they like, oh, are you a druggie? Like, that's the way that people have thought about it.
D
And, you know, they're the ones that are adopting it probably more than most now, which we find very interesting, really, with Our audience. Yeah.
A
Will you explain that?
D
I guess they're looking for alternatives and they're a bit more like solid. I'm gonna try it and see if it works. You know, they're at that point in their life where they just think, might as well try it and see if it works.
A
I mean, a lot of my friends are like, I don't wanna be hungover.
B
Yeah, yeah.
D
And why it makes me feel terrible. To your point. Or you wake up at 3 o' clock in the morning feeling like sweating and feeling terrible, you know, and now there's an alternative.
A
So good.
D
It's exciting.
B
You also have a lot of. Well, we'll talk through the products, but I mean, I mentioned to you one of my favorite products before we even started recording. How do you go about looking at these products and deciding like, what actually is going to work and isn't just marketing? Like, if I hear a dream cream, which is the product that I love, it's a hand cream.
D
Yep.
B
What is. How did you come up with that product and what makes it actually be something different that works?
D
So first of all, you've got the kind of active ingredients, so you've got cbd. You've also got some THC in there as well, which actually works even as a topical, is a great pain reliever. The CBD works as a anti inflammatory, so we make it very potent. A lot of topical products just have a couple of hundred milligrams of CBD in them.
A
And what is it used for?
C
I love gardening as which you can. We were fighting over the package earlier. I was like, I can do it with my absolutely appalling nails. And I get, you know, little arthritis pain in my joints. And we have a fantastic recovery balm, which is great for like your knees, your shoulders, your back, your lower back. You can cover yourself up.
A
I've got joint pain. I take a terrible medicine.
C
Oh, you can get like a balm will be great for you, but on your hands it's greasy. Jay created a cream and then Jay's like a super sensory. You know, smells sort of set him off bad. Good taste everything.
D
The most important thing with any OHO product is it's gotta taste good.
C
The experience.
A
If it tastes terrible, you're not gonna take it.
D
Yeah. You're not going to try again and
C
you're not going to put it on. Like you don't want to drink. Weed would sound terrible. And so the cream is neroli, bergamot and orange and it has this just sort of great mood boosting. Right.
B
It smells that neroli orange blossom scent to it is. It's such a good hand cream. I actually ran out of it. I need to get more. But it's literally like it absorbs so quickly it hydrates. I was having some leg pain, which I realized, you know, joint pain, inflammation, perimenopause. And I was rubbing it on my legs at night and it really, really helped.
D
We have a body oil as well.
A
Joint pain in my hips.
C
And it's great if you're having a massive.
A
My wrists every now and then.
C
And for you, I think where you're a little bit more, oh, I want to dip my toe in the water. Topical is like a great. Where, you know, people are like, am I going to get high hands? Well, high hands you can kind of live with. But I think it's a great way to feel the benefits of the product and feel it working for you before you like dip your toe in. And if you've had, oh, I love the cream. Or if you put the body oil on after a shower or if you having a massage. You know, the Auberge Hotel group use it a lot in their back bar.
A
Oh, amazing.
C
And it's just great. You know, product just gets a little deeper.
A
Okay, so a woman like me, young, 30s, she wants to sleep. What does she take? What does she take from.
B
Oho.
C
We definitely do not start with a 10 milligram gum. Don't start. Definitely do not start with.
A
That goes Emesha. She was my doctor.
C
Dr. Emma show is no longer prescribing.
D
So I think if it's your first time and you're unsure, I think probably our chocolate.
A
Okay.
D
It's probably is a good place to start.
A
Okay. It's called CB Night Milk chocolate salted caramel. Oh my. I love chocolate and I love salted caramel. This is my problem. And I love cherries.
B
The whole bar.
A
I won't put 40 milligrams CBN.
D
So. Okay, so CBN.
A
What is CBN?
D
That's a minor cannabinoid which works in conjunction with CBD and THC. And there's a little tiny bit of THC in there.
A
Okay.
D
CBN acts in a very sort of soporific way. So maybe try just one or two
A
pieces before you go to bed.
D
Yeah.
C
You know, hot bath done 30 minutes before. Take one square. You know, we all have an endo.
A
Clearly I could barely drive by 4 o' clock the next day, I'm like, I am still high. I am floating right now. You are moving. Never get dies, never get done.
D
It could have just been your podcast.
A
No, she literally has been talking about your brand Oho for over a year now.
C
Oh, thank you.
A
Over a year. She's like, I found something. I think it's starting to help me.
B
It was definitely like an aha moment.
A
Except it's an oho moment.
B
An oho moment. Where does the name come from?
D
So if you look at the chemical makeup of cbd, you've got. Oh, and yeah, that's as simple as that.
A
Anxiety. A woman wants to take. Have a glass of wine, take the edge off. What do you suggest?
D
I would start with one of our other CBD gummies or that very low dose, the Shirley Temples.
A
Okay. So the Shirley Temple hemp derived thc.
D
Two and a half milligrams of THC and some cbd or.
C
Great. If you're sat having a blow dry or something like that, you could just very. Jake calls it.
D
Yeah. The museum high.
C
Just a very nice.
A
The museum high.
D
Yeah.
A
Oh, my God. I know you're married and your wife is sitting there, but this is. Yeah. That is amazing. Love. That is very. That's the museum high.
D
It's just like.
A
That's kind of amazing.
D
Yeah.
C
We had that really lovely lady who came in our shop and she's, I think got sort of seven children or something. And she comes in, she's like super kind of wrought out. And I gave her some gummies and she came in the next day and she said, could I get another three or four packs of those? And I'm like, sure, maybe it was a few days later. And I was like, what happened? And she said, well, I took one and one of the kids tipped coffee all over my white sofa. And I just looked at it and went, oh, well, Carrie, done.
A
Stop it.
C
But normally I'd be like, ah, you know, getting super wound up and super, like stressed about things that you don't need to be stressed about.
A
Talk to me about the BlackBerry hush hemp derived, the dots, the bedtime. That's what I love, the bedtime ritual.
D
That's a little bit more of a step up from the chocolate. So that's my go to.
A
Chocolate is for me.
D
Try that out. Yeah. So one of those. It's got 5 milligrams of THC, some CBD and some CBN.
A
What's CBN?
D
That's the minor cannabinoid, which works in conjunction and yeah.
C
Gives it good for sleep.
D
Very good for sleep.
C
But it is strong.
A
Imagine if I take like three. I'm like, I'll see you guys in five days.
D
Yeah.
A
No, I'm just joking.
D
Try not to drink. If you're. If you. In the evening you've been drinking, I wouldn't recommend taking them, especially for the first time, because it can.
C
Yeah, yeah.
D
You can have a reaction.
C
And stronger's not always better because you're. It's all cellular, so it really depends. It's finding what works for you. So what works for Emerson might be different to Jade.
D
I have a very low tolerance, surprisingly.
B
Can you build up immunity?
C
Yes, tolerance.
B
Can you build up immunity to it?
A
Yes, she thinks so.
D
Yes.
B
You can start to, like, increasing their dose.
C
We see that a bit with the drinks.
A
Okay, we're up next. Red, cherry and lime. My two favorite things.
C
Okay, so you're gonna.
A
THC seltzer. Should I just open one right now?
D
Yeah, that's three milligra.
A
Okay. This is three milligrams.
D
That's a good start.
A
And best served cold. Very chica bottle. Tell me what this does.
D
It's just a great alternative in the evening to a glass of wine.
A
Does it give you energy or is it more calming?
D
It's more calming.
A
It's more calming.
D
Okay.
A
Yeah, I would say THC seltzer.
D
Yeah.
A
Oh, my God. Okay, so you have red, cherry and lime. What are your flavors?
D
We have blood orange and pomegranate, which is our first one. Love, which is. This is like the number one.
C
We have them all for you here.
D
And we have a pink grapefruit and elderflower love.
C
White peach.
D
White peach and lemon. The red cherry empire apple and BlackBerry. And then we're just about to launch a new one for summer, which is cantaloupe, melon and honey, which is honestly the best one.
A
You guys are really good marketers because I'm salivating here just on the choices.
D
Yes, Jay, it's all flavors, so that's my thing. I love developing products.
B
You have a functional energy drink launching this summer, so it's kind of the opposite. Instead of a downer, it's an upper.
D
Exactly. We were looking at about a year ago. I have a friend of mine who's a genius formulator on the mushroom side. He actually works for the biggest grower of mushrooms in the U.S. culinary mainly, but they've now moved into functional mushrooms as well. And they have an enormous facility in Philadelphia, and he helped me formulate this products. So we've got lion's mane and cordyceps. The amazing thing about this is it's actually what's called an aqueous solution. So rather than a powder, most products have a Powder in them, which means that you can only get a very limited amount of effective product into it. This is a very concentrated aqueous solution. So those are in there. So they're amazing for kind of focus and cognitive function. And we've added in a natural caffeine from a plant called guayasa, which is found in South America.
A
Let me tell you something. Brain fog is real. So anything that can help. A lot of my friends are getting it. Talking about, like, you'll try to say something like literally. We answer each other's sentences and she's like, I can't remember. Patty Dubroff, a makeup artist. I couldn't remember. I'm like, yeah, you just like, forget it. I'm like, yeah.
D
So this is a real pick me up, but without the jitters. It's got a very smooth kind of effect. And then we put in L Theanine as well, which is great for focus. So we try to keep it as focused as possible. And I'm super excited about it. I think the best product I've tried,
C
and I think for women specifically, the energy market is really focused on the kind of monster and the Red Bull and the Celsius.
D
That's changing now, isn't it?
C
And it's evolving.
A
I hope so.
C
They're huge, but they're sugar based. And we're learning that you can accomplish really fantastic effects with plant based products. And the science is really there.
A
It's just a whole new world. Even though the world's been there for all of these years and it's all
D
been here, it's always been, always been here.
A
It's always been here. And I think that's what fascinates. Emisha and I are like, this is something that's so old, but yet now so new and so invigorating. And it's exciting, I have to say. Like, it's really helped some of my friends get through some dark moments, some medical situations. Overall, just stress of having children. You know, we are now the sandwich generation. Right? Your parents are getting older. I've just recently lost mine in the past five years. Both my parents. So I think it's. It's dealing with. And you just don't want to do the pharmaceutical. Like, you don't want to pop the Xanax, you don't want to pop the whatever it is they're giving you.
D
But alternatives.
A
But there are alternatives, which is why we're obsessed with your brand. Okay. A little bit of myth versus fact. CBD will get you high.
D
No, it won't get you high. It's not intoxicating.
B
All CBD is basically the same.
D
Not really.
A
Not all parts are made equal.
D
Yeah, potencies. And obviously, the way that it's grown, the way that it's extracted. For example, the input that we use for our chocolate is about $1,000 a kilo. You can buy it for $200 a kilo. But it's not the same product. Yeah, that's how you formulate it. I know that because it's been having an argument with the person that supplies us about the price. Yeah. So.
C
And also look at what's in it. You know, like, there are products on the shelf, and they say that they've got whatever you know in it. But is there enough in it to make a difference? Like, you really have to have enough of the active ingredient in the product and balance that with still making it taste great.
D
Yeah.
A
You need a high dose for it
D
to work of cbd. You need a decent amount. Yeah, yeah.
B
You'll feel it immediately or it's not working.
C
No, it depends on the. In the drinks, you've got nanotechnology, so you're gonna feel that immediately. If you popped a can and you started drinking it, I'm sure you're gonna have that. The gummies and the chocolates are gonna. You're gonna metabolize, and they can be, you know, different effects.
D
McCanns have got what's called an emulsion in them, which means that they absorb much quicker.
C
So if you have one, you know, you get home from work and you've had a stressful day, and you're not wanting to have a glass of wine, that is the perfect, like a 3 milligram or a 10. Emma, Shiva. Have you been trying the tension?
B
I'm never living this down.
C
I'm never living it down.
A
Plant based wellness is just a trend. The science isn't really there.
D
The science is catching up for sure. I think the pharmaceutical industry would like it not to work, but it does.
C
Yeah.
B
More expensive always means better quality.
C
No. And I think we try and make the products super approachable.
A
Let's talk about price point. Like, how much is the chocolate?
D
That. That's 22 bucks.
A
Yes. Oh, it's only 22 bucks?
D
Yeah.
C
Yeah.
D
I'd like it to be a little bit cheaper, to be honest. But it can't be because it's a,
A
you know, lots of packaging, too.
D
Artisanal product.
C
Okay.
A
The Shirley Temple or BlackBerry. Hush. How much are these?
D
They're like, what, 14?
C
Oh, that's a great question.
D
No, we brought them down. They're like 14, 15 bucks. Yeah.
A
And then what about our drinks?
C
Four pack you're gonna get for sort of 16.99, 18.99, depending on the strength
D
where it's being sold, because different states have different tax.
C
Yeah. And then the topicals, slightly more expensive because we're very picky about the ingredients, the oils and everything that goes in them and the essential oils.
D
But if you put them up against sort of a premium product, cream.
C
Yeah. Not more.
D
60 bucks.
C
Yeah.
A
In terms of where you are now. So you're three, four years old right now.
C
Yeah, four years.
A
So where are we going? What are we doing? We don't know.
C
Try to get through the day.
D
I'm trying to get through the day, mainly.
C
Well, we're in a very complicated legislation time right now. There has been some hemp language amended in the farm bill, which could wipe out all of what we call low dose hemp products, which is everything we've just talked about.
A
Really?
C
Yeah.
A
Why is that?
C
So there's a senator, Mitch McConnell, who.
A
Oh, Senator from Kentucky.
C
Yes, from Kentucky. I think that for whatever reason, it was his parting retirement gift, I guess. And he is. He's right. There are people that have taken the farm bill and exploited it and created, you know, 100 milligram gummies that you can buy in gas stations, and nobody wants that. You know, the industry needs to be regulated.
A
Needs to be regulated. Absolutely.
C
Tested. It needs to be. You need to be really confident in what you're taking. You need to be really, really clear about what's in it. And I think in an effort to shut that down, he's sort of throwing the baby out with the bath water. And I think people have taken advantage. So now it's sort of how do we get a regulatory framework? And I think a lot of people are bashing the alcohol industry and saying hemp beverage is the future. You know, what's really amazing about the alcohol industry is it's evolving, actually. If you think about nab, if you think about lower alcohol volumes in spirits, you know, they really are innovating. They're watching the trends. They can see that people want things differently and they've embraced this category.
A
Meldman, who were very good friends, he owns the Discovery Properties, he and George Comey, of course, and they just did nab. They just did an nab beer.
C
And I think these things are coming together. Mr. Melman should absolutely have Ojo seltzers in all his comfort stations, I'll tell him. But we actually, we've got a few golf courses. If you play golf or tennis.
A
Just have to keep them out of the way of kids.
C
They'll go, you do it when the kids.
A
But now they have people now because, you know, of course the kids get into the alcohol.
C
You get a margarita in there, ice
A
cream and you know, all the candy and it's crazy.
B
And a frozen margarita.
C
And a frozen margarita, which is always welcome, but. And I think people can do both. Right. You know, feel like having a glass of one night, you can be another night. You want something different and there's room for it all. And the alcohol industry has been incredible at embracing it, distributing it.
D
And they know how to distribute it, they know how to organize it.
A
Yeah.
C
And they're a great partner. And I think there's a bit of, you know, I just certainly think there was some bourbon. Probably naysayers. But I don't think people are going back to drinking more bourbon just because there were hemp beverages on the market.
A
Okay, so you have CBD oils, full spectrum tinctures. Your source daily. Formulated for sleep, anxiety and daily wellness. I'm gonna kind of walk it and we'll put this in the show notes. You have your THC Selcers. This is the low dose sessionable, designed as a cleaner alternative to alcohol. Breaking it down. Dream cream topical. Can't wait. Emma says favorite scent went viral when SZA tweeted about it to her. 10 million followers.
D
That was crazy.
A
Okay, we have our chocolates with our microdose thc designed for relaxation, sleep and ritual. Start with that. Balms and topicals, targeted relief clean ingredients throughout which we love. And the functional energy drink, summer 2026. No CBD, no THC. A plant powered energy drink built on the same philosophy of clean. I could be your marketer.
C
We love that.
A
We're so excited for you guys. I mean, listen, I don't trust a lot of things as Emisha does. You know, I get a little skeptical. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I do. I just worry. Right?
D
Sure.
A
But I love this area. I think it's more and more, especially when women are craving sleep. They're very anxious. A lot is going on in the world, both politically, but also just a lot that goes with life. Look what happened to you. I've had some medical things with Emisha. Like shit happens. It sucks.
C
Yeah. You've got your parents and your kids. You're in that, that real moment. Menopause piles that on as well. You know, there's a lot happening.
A
We're never Going through menopause, it's never happening. Just so you know. It's never happening. It's never gonna happen.
B
So you need a tincture for that. Is there a tincture that you guys could develop for postponing?
C
Yes, that's what we need. That's really what we need.
A
We ask every guest before they go. So each of you, James and Nicola, you have to tell me the truth. If you could give. Let's start with you, Nicola, if you could give your 10 year old self a piece of advice, what would it be?
C
Oh, such a goodie. I would say if it sounds too good to be true. It probably is.
D
James, probably to be less of a smart mouth
A
that you're a sweet 10 year old.
D
Mm. I had a lot to say for myself. I love it and that has not stopped throughout my life. And yeah, maybe it's now.
A
